5 out of 5 stars College type text book.......2006-08-15

I recommend this book because it covers all the material for the Private Pilot license in an easy to understand manner. It is full of colored pictures and important concepts in bold print. This is a great book for studying to become a private pilot.

5 out of 5 stars I used it, now my students do........2006-01-21

Yes, I know it's pricey. Think of it as an investment. Buy it. End of story.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent book, execpt 1 thing!.......2005-05-17

Overall the book was great, it gave me my pilots license but the 1 thing the book didn't do so well on was the weather section. I had trouble understanding the weather theory section so I had to refrence another book so I could learn about the weather. That's it, just the theory, the weather reports and forcast section was good.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Book.......2004-07-27

This was an excellent book. Both the material and presentation was very professional and would be great for both a classroom or independent study for the written exam.

The only drawback and it was minor was that the coverage of the required FAR's was minimal, but since everyone buying this book should have a copy of the latest FAR/AIM, this should not be too bad.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Preparation For Private Pilots and Students.......2004-06-05

I am a professional airline pilot, and log virtually all of my time in large, turbojet aircraft. I am also a current CFI, although I don't frequently exercise my Instructor privileges in single engine aircraft. Not long ago I was approached to assist in teaching a Private Pilot ground school and to do some tutoring on the side. I accepted more for the challenge than any other reason.

The selected text for the course was the "Private Pilot Manual" by Jeppesen Sanderson, and I must say that I was very impressed with the book. It is very complete and provides easy to comprehend explanations (normally with useful diagrams, charts, or photographs) that make learning relatively painless. It was an excellent refresher for me as well, as single engine VFR flying is not what I do on a daily basis anymore. I highly recommend this book to CFI's for their students, to any Private Pilot or Private Pilot candidate, or to any advanced pilot as a refresher of the basics.

The only complaints I have heard from students are in regard to the relatively high price of the book. My response is that this one book contains the best explanations of the most important concepts needed to pass your written, oral, and practical exams before becoming a Private Pilot, and is an excellent reference to be referred to in the days to come. Flying isn't cheap. Economy is a good thing, but you need to know when to skimp and when to spend. This book is an excellent investment.

5 out of 5 stars For simulator pilots too!.......2007-10-03

Although the title of this outstanding teaching manual indicates it is for real pilots using Microsoft's Flight Simulator as a teaching tool I can enthusiastically recommend it for simulator pilots as well.

I learned so much from the authors who are real world pilots & instructors I hadn't learned from other available sources. I consider when I finish the manual with the missions included I will have completed real VFR & IFR instruction even though I am not a real world pilot & confine my flying to Flight Sim only.

The book is eminently practical as a good teaching manual should be. It offers a stepwise approach to flight training from the Piper Cub to the twin-engine Beechcraft Baron & beyond. A novice completely unfamiliar with simulator flying could use this book from the beginning to become competent in VFR flight before even thinking about sophisticated avionics & instrument flying. It is crammed full of practical tips & offers context for the theory of flight which can be gleaned from other sources.

There is a bunch of extra resources available at the publisher's website which extend the material even more. One can download approach plates & the like for the included missions.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough for simulator pilots; it is simply wonderful!

3 out of 5 stars problems.......2007-09-06

good information but was unable to download the tutorial flights into Flight Simulator X thus greatly limiting the advantages of this book. Jef Van West infored there are technical problems with some systems but I think the poroblem is more general than that.

5 out of 5 stars ABOUT TIME.......2007-08-30

Finally a book that takes nothing for granted and has one eager to get started with FSX. I followed one of their MANY helpful suggestions and took the book out to a flying school. From CFI's, (you'll find out what that is in the first chapter) to students, their praise was unanimous. I'm 77 years old and although I don't plan to take flying lessons, this book whets one's appetite and desire to get started. The book not only covers flying but also gives excellent information on just what power does your computer need to run the program as well as having a section that deals with Windows Vista. Sincerest congratulations to the authors.

5 out of 5 stars A Must For Serious Flight Sim Enthusiasts!.......2007-08-07

FS Real World Training is an invaluable book. Although I had already 'passed' many of the flight lessons in FSX I still didn't feel confident about my flying skills. There were too many things that were left (excuse the expression) hanging in the air. When I bought this book I started at the beginning feeling like a newbie all over again. Many points that I missed before are explained fully and in detail and finally it is all making sense. As a result I am enjoying my flight simulator more than ever. Aside from the wealth of interesting and informative detail I think the most important thing is that the reader gets to make connections. The information connects from one chapter to the next and consequently, step by step, everything fits together. Going through this book is an immensely enjoyable experience. An added bonus are the generous number of free mission files and charts available on the wiley. com web site which are enjoyable and extremely useful.

5 out of 5 stars Nice job!.......2007-07-21

Precious and perfect fit well for this book.

It's very detailed and accurate, and it helps a lot not only sims pilots, but even those who plan to be real pilots or, for those who already are, to practice and keep their skills.

I'm satisfied. It has an excelent cost / benefit.

5 out of 5 stars A Very Entertaining Read.......2007-08-04

I've read the other two in the series and I finally got my hands on this.

I'll keep this short.

Ben and Ned are back and for a whole lot more adventures. The story drew me in and had me turning pages. I finished the book in one day. If you loved, or even liked, the other books in the series, then this book will not disappoint.

5 out of 5 stars Boy and Dog battle pirates.......2007-02-20

Reviewed by Kim Peterson for Reader Views (1/07)

Ben and his dog, Ned, survived the destruction of the Flying Dutchman years ago. Spared the doom of the ill-fated crew, these castaways were still affected by the avenging angel's curse--they live forever without growing a day older. Constantly on the move so no one detects their ageless nature, they roam the earth together. Due to the angel's benevolence, Ben and Ned can communicate with each other through thoughts.

In "Voyage of Slaves"--the third book of the series--Ben and Ned are adrift in the Mediterranean Sea when they are accosted by pirates. The cruel men toss the black Labrador into the ocean and take Ben to Al Misurata, a slave trader feared along the Barbary Coast. He keeps Ben for his knowledge of languages.

Meanwhile a traveling troupe of performers finds Ned and nurses him back to health. They make him a part of their traveling show. When Al Misurata drafts them to entertain, Ben and Ned are reunited. But their happiness is short-lived. Al Misurata takes them all to sea, and they soon realize that the Rizzoli troupe have been tricked and will be sold as slaves.

Ben wants to save his new friends, especially the beautiful girl, Serafina. But Al Misurata and his ruffians remain determined to succeed. The rest of the story ranges from seafaring adventures to perils on land where Ben and Ned encounter benefactors and villains. They must use their wits to survive and pray for good fortune as they try to outsmart their adversary and free the entertainers from a horrible fate.

"Voyage of Slaves" provides rough and tumble adventure for young adult males, though girls will enjoy the story, too. Set in the early 1700s, Jacques brings the nautical past to life with its harshness, dangers and glories. The bond between Ben and Ned resounds with poignancy and humor and will be appreciated by anyone who ever wished they could communicate with their four-legged childhood friend.

In "Voyage of Slaves," Jacques's cast of characters who befriend Ben and Ned is well-developed and diverse. The antagonists are intriguing and evil, yet believable. The author provides a compelling yarn where good triumphs over evil. Young adult "Redwall" fans will want to read this series, too.

4 out of 5 stars Best book of the three so far.......2006-11-01

At last, a pretty good book by Brian Jacques on his series, Castaways of the Flying Dutchman. I found this book to be pretty entertaining and fun to read although there's a pattern developing here that began to look pretty redundent. In this book, our eternal young Ben and his dog, Ned got themselves captured by Barbary pirates and spent most of the book trying to get away from them and at the same time, trying to save his new found friends who he would have to abandoned anyway. The book have Ben and Ned virtually being passed on from one benefactor after another as they are led to safety and toward danger at the same time. Ben also learned a new aspect of this angelic curse when he realized that a love of a girl will be one thing he would never have for long since he have to keep on moving by angel's command. Since the story take place a lot on the sea, the curse of the Flying Dutchman and her crew remains always in the distance as they continued to haunt Ben and Ned.

As always, the ceaseless banters between Ben and Ned keep the story flowing and the book is well written enough that almost anyone of any age could enjoy it with ease.

One question I have is, if Ben looked like a 14 years old blond boy but have a life span of hundred generations, will he still act like a boy with such experiences and wisdom built into him?? You might think that by his 200th or 250th year of life, Ben might behaved more like an aged, overmatured wise man who look like a 14 years old blond boy!!

Anyway, any fan of this series should enjoy this book and considering the improvement over the previous two books, fans of the series won't be disappointed.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Good Book--4 stars.......2007-04-27

Dragonwings is a good book to read because you have a good feeling to know someone's dream came true, like Moonshadow's father's dream. Moonshadow is a young man. When he was just eight years old, he had a chance to join his father who he had never seen before in the United States. He went through a difficult time passing immigration. This book talks about how Chinese people settled down in Chinatown and the experience in 1906 with the big earthquake in San Francisco, and then how Moonshadow and his father relocated to Oakland. Moonshadow's father is a good kite maker, and he has a fabulous dream to make a flying machine. Moon Shadow writes a letter to the Wrights telling them how his father likes to fly too, and wishes they can help him. The father's dream came true when he made a flying machine in 1909. Lawrence Yep's historical novels shows rich traditions and the culture of the Chinese community. I will recommend this book to people who are American born Chinese because they can learn from this book about how difficult it was for their ancesters to get into this country, and how they worked so hard and how they survived in white society, so they will appreciate them. Overall it is a good book to read, I just have some words that were hard to understand for me, maybe because they are too old fashioned.

2 out of 5 stars Upset.......2007-04-18

I was honestly upset with this book not as good as i thought it would be, I mean the story was just boring overall. The only thing I thought was interesting that they used kites and I would be curious to ask the author why.

1 out of 5 stars snooze fest.......2007-02-22

horrible
I am 13 years old and I hate this book
we read it in english class this year. About two people actually fell asleep reading it in 5th period. Really boring. There was one exciting part to the story. The names are hard to keep track of. I also don't like the fact that all throughout this book the boy refers to the white men as "demons". At first I thought the book was suposed to teach a lesson. But in the end it didn't
don't buy this book

5 out of 5 stars Dragonwings.......2006-11-30

Wow,this is the best book I've ever read in years. This book starts off with a boy named Moonshadow,Moonshadows mom,and grandmother. They are in there farm allways workinging in the farm and not having any fun.
Moonshadow always wonders how the goldenmountains (America)looks like. When Moonshadow visits the goldenmountains and finds his dad there. The white demons (white people) are mean to the chinamen and all yhey care about is themselves.

3 out of 5 stars Dragonwings.......2006-05-25

Moonshadow starts out as a shy little boy who lives in China who was curious about The Land of the Golden Mountain (America). Men from China would go to America in search for a better life. This is what Moonshadow's father did. One day Moonshadow was told that he had to choose between either staying in China and never knowing his father or being taken to his father in The Land of the Golden Mountain, he chose to leave. On the boat he was very frightened because he heard the older men telling stories of how they were almost tortured in America which did not make it any easier for Moonshadow to leave China. When he arrives he encounters a couple of "scary" things before they get to where he will be staying. Everyone with the last name of Lee works in a Laundry Shop, which is owned by Uncle Bright Star and White Deer. Moonshadow is greeted with Demon (white people) clothing. He already doesn't like what he sees. Moon shadow faces many difficulties such as being mugged, robbed, being picked on and racism through out the whole story. Towards the end of the story Moonshadow's father Windrider discovers that he wants to peruse his dream and he will need Moonshadow's help to achieve that dream. When he tells everyone that he will be moving out they are hurt and angry. They live by a white demoness and her niece, Miss. Whitlaw and Robin. While they are living there Windrider works as a handy man for Mr. Alger. Everything is perfect until the Earthquake comes. Miss. Whitlaw and Robin, Moonshadow and Windrider have to separate. It is up to Moonshadow to take over there new house because father is working on his dream but, will he finish in time and will it work? You find out!

3 out of 5 stars Parenting Plus.......2006-11-12

I was disappointed in this book. I was looking for a book that would encourage average elementary students to improve their typing skills. Instead I encountered a pyrotechnic display of a very exceptional seven year old's imagination. I wish Adora luck in her fiction writing, but examples of letter writing or report writing would be more helpful to average students. Most of the third and fourth graders at my school do not have the vocabulary to follow Adora's flights of fantasy.

5 out of 5 stars "A child Shall Lead them".......2006-07-11

I am so impressed with the humility, joy and delight of Adora, and the devoted attention her mother gave her. It not only is a book about inspiring other children to put their thoughts into written word, but a grand tool for anyone teaching our youth....Then there is the inspiration of calling all mothers to teach, instruct and inspire their children. I am sharing this book with a couple of teachers. I am 71 years young. I will look forward to seeing where Adora goes in her future. Peggy Lippitt

5 out of 5 stars Great book.......2006-07-08

This book was great, the writting tips were helpful, and the stories were very good. I'd also like to add that the other review made by Leelikah is a bit rediculous. She wrote that Adora's writting was "childish and stupid" however Miss Leelikah must not know much about the author considering she was only SEVEN when she wrote the book! Now I understand you called yourself an aspiring author, and good for you but I'm sure you didn't have any book published when you turned 8! Adora is talented, she was reading chapter books by the time she was 3! Not many people can say that they were able to do that. So before writting a review for the book and calling the author childish and stupid it would probably help if you knew what you were talking about.

5 out of 5 stars Flying Fingers-A Teacher's Viewpoint.......2006-03-18

I have been consistently disappointed in my search for creative writing teaching tools for children. They tend to be condescending or banal, with few fresh ideas. Flying Fingers: Master the Tools of Learning Through the Joy of Writing proves to be an exception. A collection of lively stories by prodigy author Adora Svitak, Flying Fingers includes key vocabulary, creative writing exercises, exercises designed to improve basic writing skills, and an extensive guide for parents and educators. Adora's co-author, Joyce Svitak, has a refreshing stance on education, espousing a strong belief that most children are capable of much better writing-it's just a matter of tapping into their creativity and changing your own perceptions of their potential. For a teacher, this alone is an incredibly uplifting message; backed up by step-by-step directions and innovative exercises, it's a vital strategy.

5 out of 5 stars Flying Fingers-A Great Teaching Tool.......2006-03-18

My children have been much more interested in writing since they saw Adora's appearance on Good Morning America, and I was thrilled that her first book included both stories and writing tips. Pairing the two together gives children a tangible example of what they can achieve, accompanied by tools to help them on their path. Adora's stories are quite humorous and entertaining in and of themselves (even for adult readers), and, with the accompanying `strategies for parents and educators' and `fun exercises for kids' segments, they make great learning tools. Since my children began reading Lemony Snicket, I have been trying to find more stories that include definitions of key vocabulary. The Flying Fingers glossary surpasses anything I have found so far; with words like scurrilous and ribald, Adora's vocabulary selection is lively enough to keep young readers interested.

This scholarly exploration of the borderlands between science and fantasy features four complete works by the redoubtable Charle Fort (1874-1932): The Book of the Damned, Lo!, Wild Talents, and New Lands. All concern the bizarre phenomena unexplained by traditional science: flying saucers, telekinesis, sudden showers of fish from the sky, stigmata, poltergeists, and spontaneous combustion.

5 out of 5 stars Fossils in meteorites?.......2004-12-12

From page 80 in Fort's "The Book Of The Damned" published in 1919: "Dr. Hahn said he had found fossils in meteorites." Fred Hoyle, the British astronomer, published in his 1984 book "The Intelligent Universe," photographs of fossils in a meteorite. Of course, in 1996 NASA announced finding fossils in a meteorite. What took NASA so long?

Fort's point: What doesn't fit in is damned. What other strange phenomena have been excluded from respectable consideration? Fort tells of fish and stones falling from the clouds, strange craft cruising the skies in the 1890's, lights moving beneath the surface of the sea, vitrified (melted) stone forts in Scotland, disappearing stars, red rain, unknown planets crossing the sun, and sea serpents.

Fort's style of extreme and fantastic hyperbole makes for difficult reading until the reader allows his thinking to slide into the Fortean mode. Of course, thats what Fort had in mind all along, to stretch the reader's thinking to the point where he will at least consider what others have ignored.

5 out of 5 stars Hegelian philosophy + ostentatious prose = Charles Fort.......2002-08-01

No author has had a greater intellectual influence on me than Charles Fort. As an eight year old I had no idea what he was talking about, but I was enchanted by his writing style. When I read Fort today it is for literary enjoyment. Inimitable writers are, unfortunately, too often imitated. However, an ardent Fortean could identify a Fortean paragraph as easily as he could identify his mother in a photograph. Here are some excerpts, selected at random, from this behemoth text. If you find the following samples unpalatable, you're going to hate this book:

page 38 - So Science functions for and serves society at large, and would, from society at large, receive no support, unless it did so divert itself or dissipate and prostitute itself. It seems that by prostitution I mean usefulness.

page 324 - That our existence, a thing within one solar system, or supposed solar system, is a stricken thing that is mewling through space, shocking able-minded, healthy systems with the sores on its sun, its ghastly mooons, its civilizations that are all broken out with sciences; a celestial leper, holding out doddering expanses into which charitable systems drop golden comets?

page 389 - We assemble the data. Unhappily, we shall be unable to resist the tempation to reason and theorize. May Super-embryology have mercy upon our own syllogisms. We consider that we are entitled to at least 13 pages of gross and stupid erors. After that we shall have to explain.

page 643 - As to data that we shall now take up, I say to myself: "You are a benign ghoul, digging up the dead, old legends and superstitions, trying to breath life into them. Well, then, why have you neglected Santa Claus?"

What use is Fort today? Most published Forteans (Keel, Coleman) are on-site researchers, methodically tracking down and experiencing that of which they write. The only place Charles Fort traveled to was the library.

Fort would think that his writings and opinions were above classification, and if anyone is, he is probably the one. But we have to connect all writers to something. I see alot of Hegel in his writings, particularly in his dialectical analyses and his fixation on negation. Hegel's famous quote - The whole of philosophy resembles a circle of circles - is hearkened to in Fort's famous circle quotation. But this is no philosophy text. You could boil down Fort's philosophy in Book of Damned to a concise three pages. Yet Fort reiterates, and rephrases, and belabors. And it's excruciatingly enjoyable. If you don't like being told the same thing over and over again, albeit wittiily and elaborately and incorrigibly, don't read this book.

I treat Fort like I treat the Bible. I don't mean that irreverently (I happen to think the Bible is pretty holy meself). Open the 1100+ page book anywhere, and read a chapter. Be enlightened, be bemused, be annoyed. Maybe the response is the key. Fort had his pet theories, and they are absurd. But he was onto something. An absoluteness I think. He lambasts religion, and he really lays into science. This may offend people, but theories are meant to be attacked, aren't they? And that is the primary Fortean dogma.

Forteans are a motley and diverse bunch. Yes, you'll find UFO passages, animal mutilations, falling frogs. To me, the details are only significant in volume. If you decide to read this book, leave your pet theories outside of the covers.

I like to believe that Fort was searching for the Absolute, even if the Absolute turns out to be completely absurd to the human perspective. If absolute theories exist, it might only be our ignorance and prejudice which make them absurd.

Oh I could say that everybody should read this book. But the fact is most people won't get through the first chapter. This book is an artifact in many ways, and was written for people with certain intellectual and literary backgrounds. If that sounds a bit snobbish, so be it. Fort was such a snob that he kept his circle of friends exceedingly small, and treated well-respected ideas like lepers. Today, I encounter this book much like I did almost twenty years ago. Like a child, full of wonder, and ready to believe and disbelieve anything.

5 out of 5 stars Mind open, tongue in cheek, questions ready........2001-04-16

It would be foolish, really, to try and write a review that in some way offers more information than the one by Jesper Sampaio. And so, I don't intend to. I merely want to offer a few instructions and my own opinion.

Instruction number one: don't take it at face value. Many of the explanations Fort offers for any number of unexplained phenomena are intentionally fantastic, sarcastic or ironic. It is, I think, part of his overall effort to get people to question the "conventional" explanation. Many scientific explanations, after all, simply fit the facts available and, in that respect, are no more or less valid than some of Fort's.

Instruction number two: get ready for rather turgid prose. I personally like the way Fort writes, but it can be tough to get through for the uninitiated. Remember that he was writing in the early part of the century.

Instruction number three: don't be afraid to jump around. I know it's best to read these books "back to back" as it were, but it's not necessary. If you get tired of a particular avenue of discussion just jump ahead. Skip to a different book if you want. Part of my enjoyment of these books was being able to pick the volume up whenever the mood struck me and simply open to any chapter. Sure you miss some of the overarching themes, but it makes it much easier to enjoy.

So, for what it's worth, here's my opinion:

This is a really great primer for Forteana and unexplained phenomena. It is also a sharp and witty condemnation of blind trust in ANY particular system of belief and of the scientific view in particular. The scientific view receives particular condemnation, I think, because of the tendency of those within the scientific community to speak in absolutes. Science, says Fort, has a nasty habit of drawing lines in the sand and saying "this is the way things are" and condemning anyone who says different. The Earth is the center of the universe and rocks don't fall from the sky. Eventually the line gets redrawn, but Fort suggests that perhaps scientists should have just as healthy a sense of skepticism about their own fields of study as they do about the more fantastic things they habitually reject.

Enjoyable by believers and skeptics alike, the Complete Works of Charles Fort is both entertaining and thought provoking.

4 out of 5 stars Reading is one of the things you should do for yourself........2000-04-05

It is not infrequent to hear establishment scientists label unconventional research work as 'pseudo-science', especially if the researcher in question lacks special academic credentials or institutional support and if his discoveries and conclusions go against current dogmas. But when someone's heresy goes beyond all institutional seriousness and loses its last grain of prim, scientific respectability, then even stronger expressions, such as the term "Fortean", will have to be flung at the anathematized one.

But who was this man called Fort whom every good scientist must abjure in a solemn oath? Well, historically speaking, Fort was (I suppose) the first writer to give systematical attention to a great number of phenomena generally termed 'anomalous' (in the areas of ufology, cryptozoology, parapsychology and many others) and has been a source of inspiration for several writers and - it must be admitted - some crackpot researchers. But is that all? No, definitely not, but in the case of Fort other people's opinions (including my own) will be of almost no avail to the uninitiated, so there is only one answer to the question above: Read Fort's books, and form your own opinion about the man and his work.

That's what I did myself: I got the Dover omnibus volume of his complete works to pollute my innocent mind with, and - ensconced in an old and spacey rocking chair - read every line of it. Now Fort is difficult reading: his style is full of surprises, allusions to subjects touched upon hundreds of pages back, preciously ironical remarks, creative metaphors and analogies (mostly incomplete or faulty, but nevertheless very funny), and - of course - a lot of philosophy: his weak side, if it be permitted to say so. Each book was meant to be read from first to last page, no skipping, because the facts exposed, though apparently whimsical and haphazard, really follow a careful order of presentation.

Fort's works are valuable for the extremely hard-gathered information they present (you can decide for yourself what to do with it) and for the way universally accepted ideas and concepts are challenged and played with for the sake of intellectual amusement (can't scientists see that? haven't they got the slightest bit of sense of humor? in his last book, however, Fort takes on a bit more of the grave air of the parapsychologist, and so comes close to resembling a 'true scientist'). Fort is someone you have a great time reading no matter how much you disagree with him, and that's not a small accomplishment, I think.

Actually, one may say that the act of listening does not imply being in agreement or disagreement with the speaker. And so there should be no hard-felt need for the reader to accept or oppose Fort's views as such. These are inalienable from the man and his unique writing style, and so may be comfortably left where they are. Below are a few typically 'Fortean' quotes, extracted from the omnibus volume reviewed:

- "Sciences are islands of seeming stability in a cosmic jelly."(p.335) - "All knowledge is (or implies) the degradation of something. One who learns of metabolism, looks at a Venus, and realizes she's partly rotten. However, she smiles at him, and he renews his ignorance. All things in the sky are pure to those who have no telescopes."(p.547) - "To have an opinion one must overlook something."(p.559) - "There would not be so much science, if people had good memories."(p.576) - "So, like everybody else, I don't know what to think, but, rather uncommonly, I know that."(p.617) - "Now and then admirers of my good works write to me, and try to convert me into believing things that I say. He would have to be an eloquent admirer, who could persuade me into thinking that our present expression is not a least a little fanciful; but just the same I have labored to support it. I labor like workers in a beehive, to support a lot of vagabond notions."(p.641) - "If there has never been, finally, a natural explanation of anything, everything is, naturally enough, the supernatural."(p.655) - "Every scientist who has played a part in any developing science has, as can be shown, if he's been dead long enough, by comparing his views with more modern views, deceived himself."(p.669) - "In the oneness of allness, I am, in some degree or aspect, guilty of, or infected with, or suffering from, everything that I attack."(p.828) - "To this day it has not been decided whether I am a humorist or a scientist."(p.850)

4 out of 5 stars Great Flight Sim.......2007-10-06

I own 3 different versions of MS Flight Sims and I really enjoy 2004 for
it's smooth and seamless operation. I have the graphics set at maximum and
it still runs smooth frame rate transitions during low flight, high density
city areas. The Short Flight Kiosk in the Select a Flight menu is great for
just getting up and flying around.2004 is a good buy for first timers or experienced flightsimmers.

2 out of 5 stars Nothing useful here..........2007-04-02

Although there are some interesting excercises in this book, it didn't have the extensive, detailed "nuts & bolts" information I was looking for. Each subject is a basic overview followed by "see the learning center for more information".

I was hoping for detailed information on all controls and instruments, the information that's NOT found in the FS2004 learning center.

In short, don't waste your money.

I was most happy with all those V-speeds I can't seem to find anywhere else. Good advice inside.

I purchased this book after I read the other reviews. Some of them were not as good as others. I have long been a fan of Flight Simulator and I have purchased all the hints book to go along with each one. I found this book to be a great resource and I have used it daily.

5 out of 5 stars Finally relaxed.......2007-08-07

I listened to the entire CD throughout my last 5-hour flight and was delighted about the effect it had on me - I was actually relaxed. Whenever turbulence would rock the plane, I would go back to a specific section that helped me relax and go through the breathing exercise. I can only recommend this CD if you are anxious during and even before the flight (there is a great section to prepare for your flight while you are still at home).

5 out of 5 stars You just can't go wrong!.......2007-07-31

An absolute must have for those suffering from aviatophobia (fear of flying). I bought this cd about a week before my flight and I didn't start using it until the day before my flight. I took it with me and listened to it while waiting to board the plane, waiting for take-off, in-flight and landing. It was excellent! I just downloaded it into my IPod and listened to each track as I needed. The total CD is about 73 minutes but just listen to the track that you need the most and repeat it as needed. It totally soothed my nerves and calmed me down. For the first time, I didn't feel my stomach in my throat! I highly recommend it!

4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2007-05-14

I really enjoyed this cd...I have taken a fear of flying course which was great but this CD was just something extra to support how safe flying really is and I felt even more relaxed and confident after listening to this CD...I def. recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent guidance.......2006-07-22

I've used KRS'CD for pre-flight and on-flight jitters. This CD is one of the best relaxation aids I've found for flying discomfort. The meditations are right-on, every sentence supporting the strength we have inside, while dissipating nervousness. I love her voice and her no-nonsense style.
Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars MESMERIC & MEDITATIONAL!.......2006-04-07

What could be easier than popping the CD into the player, sitting back and relaxing. KRS has a confident soothing voice and the background music helps to keep things calm. For those of us with flying anxieties, FLY WITHOUT FEAR is a great tool to help settle the nerves.

This ambitious book is a personal psycho-spiritual journey, a theorization on the meaning of the monuments of Mars, a guidebook for transcending present three-dimensional limitations, and an account of our function within the grand celestial battle between internal and external knowledge. The newly revised and expanded edition of this cult classic features photos and illustrations throughout, and adds the Lucifer Rebellion, the solar storm, and the final three breaths of the merkaba meditation. 2 out of 5 stars First Half = I can't put it down.......Last Half = I can't pick it up........2007-01-15

This book was very interesting to me well before I even opened the cover. As I began to read the outlandish theories in the book, my mind seemed to open and receive never before thought of possibilities. It was a whirl-wind of "what if's?" and "Could that be possible's".

As I continued along, I began to feel like I was reading the Bible. But, only in the sense that I got lost in all the cosmic events and bizarre names and connections to the main plot. This lead to a disintegration in my level of interest. I have ALWAYS been open to wacky theories and metaphysical concepts, but this book got a little carried away with itself. In a sense, it takes itself WAY too seriously. What started as a fun, possible explanation for every theory and conspiracy ever, devolved into a maniacal raving, much like one would expect from the lips of the mentally unstable. And to make matters worse, I completely lost interest.

It may seem like I'm only bashing the book. However, consider this. If you start eating a meal, a delicious meal, and half way through you realize you've had WAY too much of it, do you not later tell your friends that lunch was just OK? I'm only doing the same. The book was really interesting, but too full of itself to hold my interest.

3 out of 5 stars Something in this book...may be true...?.......2006-05-01

To most people this book would come across as absurd, and to others it would become a bible. I really think though, that one should approach this middle-of-the-road style, perhaps leaning toward the former.
The cartoonish way this book is written and the outlandish claims it makes sem to discredit it at face value, but there is a small snack for thought buried somewhere inside it, and I think it's a helpful book if one is trying to gain a wide perspective about the various strains of esoterica, including the slightly paranoid, fantastic ones .
The book exagerrates details which can be picked up in more reputable titles, and as such it's not complete rubbish. When I read it, at first I was drawn deep into it's little conspiracy matrix and actually wondered why agents of the illuminati weren't swooping down upon me to confiscate it and have me curb-stomped. Then disbelief and dissapointment set in, but months later one usually finds a string of phrase or paragraph of information somewhere that validates a bit of the book, and that's where its worth lies. Again I say a bit of the book, because believed completely this series could turn one into a lunatic. My advice is to find a bookstore that carries it, and read the whole thing there, or pick it up used. Just don't shell out fifteen bucks, and don't expect miracles.

1 out of 5 stars Snore.......2005-09-18

Nothing in this book is true but it is a comprehensive new age/rebirthing/early 90's generic unified theory of kookiness. The reason this book seems original is because Bob did combine a lot of strange information here, but didn't add much to the mix. Is NASA hiding things on Mars? I think so. Is there a devious secret government? Yes, but you'll find a lot more accurate info elsewhere on these subjects. I recommend Bob's companion volume Something in This Book is True instead of this because it has a much more personal touch and at least Something true.

4 out of 5 stars IT'S HARDLY RECOMMENDED TO ME!!.......2005-09-15

But I really would like to read it in Spanish, I heard that it's a great book, there somethings that I read and I understand, But it will be better if I can find it in Spanish

4 out of 5 stars Open your mind.......2004-11-27

I'd like to thank Bob for being the first person to get me motivated to attempt to understand the mysteries of the universe. This book is riddled with paradox, truths and untruths. I cannot tell you which bits are what, simply because your interpretation is different to mine. I believe this is what Bob was trying to do with this book.

If you are to take this book and analyze it, you will more than likely find it a travesty to literature. Bobs ideas and views have no backing what-so-ever. He references things that a few other people are accredited to; the book doesn't really flow. Or even have an easily visible purpose.

Open your mind. Take this book as it feels. "Nothing in this book is true". Can you imagine yourself living in a multiple dimensional reality? Alien existence? Just because we can't prove these facts as `truth', doesn't mean that they are impossible. I urge you to disprove alien life.

The topics that Bob raises, for me, sparked something inside of me. I feel more alive now than ever. I'm reading so much about everything. I want more. Before reading this book I read pretty much nothing. Read it to be inspired, get yourself contemplating possibilities, if nothing else.

Tommy feathers (a student) dies and Rachel (main character) stops talking. No teacher or sub shows up and the class runs it on there own. The class gets caught. It's a sad story from kids dying and its heart breaking to read this book, this is why I like this book.

The book is about some kids that go to school, and some of the students are at the school early beacuse she likes to talk to Mr.Fabiano alone. Then she walked in and looked at the black board. Well, it said "I Mr. Fabiano is absent today" and a lot of other things too. I loved this book because it was funny, I also can relate to it on so many different ways. There is not anything that I did not liked or enjoy about the book. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

The book is about a class that has no sub and no teacher and they vote to see if they should tell someone or not. I loved the part were Bastian gives Sean a big present.
