They Attack Him.......2006-05-02
For a decade and a half now, Clarence Thomas has been a proverbial "thorn in the side" of liberalism. They just don't know how to take someone who goes against every fiber of their being. The American system so successfully constructed by liberal lawmakers has simply failed them, therefore, they do the only thing they know how, they attack him. With a tenaciously dogged vengeance, they attack him. A black man is suppose to stay on the plantation and be a good democrat, keeping them in office while waiting for the next handout. A black man in America isn't supposed to pull himself up out of poverty. The Democrat created and nurtured system just isn't designed for such an anomaly. So they attack him. At every venue, with every ruling, and for unfounded reasons other than shear loathing, they attack him.
For fourteen years now, only Justice Antonin Scalia has joined Justice Clarence Thomas as the only consistent voices to the original intent of the Constitution. Over the fourteen year span, from 1991 to 2005, as a presiding Supreme Court Judge, Justice Thomas rendered 327 judicial opinions. Each opinion is presented in the book, THE KEEPER OF THE FLAME by Henry Mark Holzer. This extraordinary piece of work goes far beyond previous works regarding Thomas' distinguished career, and is presented in common language that those of us with non-judicial backgrounds can easily comprehend.
This is not a biography of the life of Clarence Thomas. For that, see Clarence Thomas: A Biography, by Andrew Peyton Thomas, a 600-page behemoth that chronicles every aspect of his life. No, this is a close examination of every one of the 327 written opinions Thomas rendered from appointment until the books publication. This book lends clear and concise illustration, primarily in Thomas' own words, to his methodology on rendering decisions and his positions on fundamental Constitutional questions.
Much like Ronald Reagan, Clarence Thomas will never see a national public fully cognizant of his greatness, nor willing to acknowledge his accomplishments. His continual display of an incessant desire to judiciously adhere to the principles upon which our country was founded and our laws enacted should have left Thomas with an unquestioned legacy, but because he doesn't "fit the mold" they attack him. This book is a brilliant presentation which will, hopefully, open the eyes of the masses who have bought into the character assassinations this man has endured while upholding the values our forefathers cherished.
It remains to be seen as yet, whether Justices Thomas and Scalia still stand alone as our last great hope in returning to the virtue that once was America, but we must pray that the recent, and near future appointments to the country's highest court will stand beside Thomas and Scalia as bastions of American sovereignty and freedom. This book lends critical insight to one of the two great Justices of our time and clearly illustrates the importance of future appointees.

Welcome to Constitutional Law.......2006-04-08
Henry Mark Holzer's, The Keeper of the Flame is a fascinating and enlightening examination of Justice Clarence Thomas' brilliant legal mind, his integrity and his strong moral base. Holzer brings to light the incredible purity of one of the nation's best thinkers. He does this by citing the Justice's own words and analyzing those words with the greatest degree of objectivity and clarity. Holzer reveals himself to be a master-scholar of Constitutional Law guiding us through the history of its creation by the Founding Fathers and how it has come to be interpreted by the Supreme Court. He helps us to truly understand the Constitution and its undeniable value to our free society. He takes us through the Bill of Rights so that we know and can appreciate how they apply to our own lives. Professor Holzer is not only a fine scholar-he is a fine writer and a fine teacher. His exceptional skills make this a marvelous educational text, yet a completely easy and enjoyable read.
I was especially impressed by the examples Justice Thomas' unequivocal dissents. He pulls no punches in taking on the Court's majority decision makers when he disagrees. He repudiates with unimpeachable logic and fierce moral conviction. Holzer has proven him to be not only "the keeper of the flame," but to be a man of heroic proportions. We should all be grateful that Clarence Thomas sits on the highest court in the land.
I plan to purchase several copies of The Keeper of the Flame to donate to local school and public libraries; an idea I would hope others, after reading it, might embrace.

Essential Supreme Court Analysis.......2006-04-04
Professor Holzer has cleared away the cloud surrounding the jurisprudence of Clarence Thomas. In the ongoing debate between those who adhere to the idea of a "living constitution" and those who seek original meaning and intent, "The Keeper of the Flame" is essential reading for anyone who wants a better understanding of each viewpoint. This book also shines a bright light on the Justice who might be called the stepchild of "conservative" Supreme Court Justices. Preconceived notions and popular public images of Clarence Thomas are swept away with powerful and very readable text supported, always, by the only real authority on Justice Thomas' judicial philosophy, his own words.
We learn that Justice Thomas' opinions are well thought out and often eloquent. For anyone who has read, or even read of, Supreme Court opinions over the years, it is evident that the Court as a whole has often struggled and equivocated over the principles it applies. But, not Clarence Thomas. Whether you agree or disagree with his judicial philosphy, once you read this book you will never think of Justice Thomas in the same way he has often been portrayed.
Professor Holzer does a masterful job of placing Clarence Thomas in his proper place and, as an added bonus, Holzer gives us a concise and easy to read synposis of the important constitutional issues the Supreme Court has faced over the years.
Justice Clarence Thomas .......2006-04-03
KEEPER OF THE FLAME
Stanley Gray
The charge that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is an Uncle Tom "doing the white man's bidding" is so unfair and so untrue that it makes me want to cry! Thomas is definitely his own man, and it is abundantly clear that Justice Thomas truly understands what it means, and what it takes, to uphold and defend our Constitution.
Holzer's book, surprisingly easy to read, gave me a better understanding of our Constitution and of the workings of the Supreme Court. Most importantly for me, The Keeper of the Flame gave me new ammunition to use in my attempts to persuade fellow blacks that Justice Thomas's decisions in support of the Constitution should be better appreciated.
I especially found it refreshing that race plays absolutely no role in The Keeper of the Flame. Holzer wrote about Clarence Thomas the thinker, not Clarence Thomas the black thinker.
Professional or layman, butcher or baker, all Americans need to read Professor Holzer's book. I'm not sure that I wouldn't make it mandatory reading for high school seniors. And for sure, it is a must read for those entering, or already in, the legal profession.
If I were Professor Holzer I would send a copy to every member of the senate so that they would understand the proper questions to ask future Supreme Court nominees, and so that they'll be reminded of the crucial importance of their task.

What we need are more Justices like ClarenceThomas.......2006-03-23
Yes Clarence Thomas is a very originalist Supreme Court Justice
indeed! I haven't heard justice Thomas speak much, but his
opinion writing is great, with both feet planted on the center
of a rock solid US Constitution.
This book is right on track, and we should thank the author
of "Keeper of the Flame" for producing this much needed book
which happens to be an effective `rebuttal' of the prejudice
and UGLY confirmation hearings that Clarence Thomas was
subjected to..
The mind of Clarence Thomas is very well sharpened..
A strong intellect such as he possesses garners facts..
just the facts..then it digests, develops and communicates
very consistent rulings as he has done throughout his tenure
as a modern era Supreme Court Justice.
Justice Thomas' Jurisprudential history the author has shown
clearly in this book to inform us in this most succinct and
powerful way. This book is indeed quite fascinating.
The author is very qualified to write on Supreme Court's
degree of departure from the required conformance to the
US Constitution, and Clarence Thomas' tendency to defend
the Original Intent of the Constitution in his opinions,
dissents and rulings. The Author is a long time professor
of constitutional law, and has argued on the appellate level,
including some cases argued before the US Supreme Court!
In my view, no one reading this book through should ever fail
to gain a feeling of profound respect and appreciation for
Clarence Thomas' jurisprudence, driven in the center lane
of "Constitutional Originism' -- he does his utmost to defend
the US Constitution he knows profoundly, from being trampled
upon by efforts of other justices..even judges from lower
courts, to "make laws" from the bench by judicial wordsmithing.
Again, Great book!! Talk about food for legal thought!!!

Book Description
In the Spring of 1944, Ned Handy's B-24 bomber was shot down on a mission into Germany. Handy and his fellow survivors were sent to Stalag 17, a crowded, disease-ridden POW camp that held thousands of Allied soldiers and operated by its own cruel rules. From the beginning, Handy set out to escape, relentlessly digging a tunnel underneath a barracks. As he dug, Handy forged friendships and uneasy alliances, survived Gestapo searches and a vicious beating, helped save the lives of wanted men and befriended a German guard. When the moment came for Handy to escape, fate would intervene as he and his fellow prisoners began a brutal march West-towards freedom or death......This is a powerful, moving memoir of an ordeal that brought out the best and the worst in men. A must-read for World II buffs and anyone interested in the true nature of war, The Flame Keepers is a story of suffering, camaraderie, horror and survival-and one young man's awakening to the power of humanity itself.
Customer Reviews:
Reading it was like Dad telling me about the whole ordeal.......2007-08-15
My Dad was a POW in Stalag 17 during the same period of time as Handy. Dad had a hard time of it and it really was difficult for him to talk much about it. I now know that it would have been much better for him, and us, if he had been able to talk about it. He died in 2004.
Many of the things he did tell me in bits and pieces over the years about his experiences Handy described also. The Kregie who killed imself by deliberately crossing over 'the wire', the tunneling efforts, the dirt in the rafters, the sawdust bread, the interrogations, solitary, the bunks, the cold, the hunger, the frightened guards, the end in the forest. Lot and lots of pieces of the puzzle.
Dad was a most devout Catholic and, as it turned out, the only prisoner in camp who had been trained to be an Altar Boy. He gave lessions in Latin to train many other prisoners who were 'getting religion' in those desperate times. Dad described the Christams Mass in great detail, and it was striking to read Handy's account of that sermon. It was erie to read Handy's account of it all and how identical it was to Dad's. It was a very uplifting sermon that Dad and Handy never forgot.
My Mother told me about this book and I ordered it immediatly from Amazon and couldn't put it down until I had read all the way through. It was as if Dad was sitting in the room and describing the whole horror, step by step, and in chronological sequence for the first time which enabled me to put it all together for the first time. Now I have an even deeper understanding and appreciation for what Dad had endured, and how tragic his ongoing suffering had been, what it meant for his life, how much he had sacrificed, not only for those 16 months as a POW - but throughout the remainder of his life. I also got some insights regarding how it impacted mine life and my family's. I wish Dad could have read it him self 50 years ago. Thanks, Ned for getting it out for all of us to understand.
If you have any POWs in your immediate family, especially if that POW is or was your father - or you were a POW and you have children, I would say that this is required reading.
A worthy read.......2007-05-21
Loved this book. It grabbed my attention from the very start and never let it drift...housework and commitments be damned! Knowing it was a true story made it all the more gripping. I highly recommend it.
A true and accurate account.......2007-02-03
One of the heroes in this book, Gene Meese, is a friend of mine. He no longer talks much about his war experiences but he does say that Ned Handy tells the story with great accuracy. Oh, sure, much was omitted -- some of it quite bad -- but the core and substance is there and treated well.
Knowing Gene and reading the book deepened my appreciation for all the terror our troops, past and present, have endured for our country.
Incredible Tale of Successful Ingenuity, Perseverance, Courage.......2005-08-04
It is not hyperbole to say that The Flame Keepers is an excellent, well-paced book that will captivate readers of all ages and backgrounds - from teens to seasoned citizens. Not only about World War II, or even strictly a "war story," the book covers the effects on human behavior of war, imprisonment and defiance of one's enemies -- all well beyond the armored battles that raged.
Author and protagonist Ned Handy tells the unvarnished story through his eyes of a network of men and comrades-at-arms whose sudden imprisonment brought out their individual and collective ingenuity, bravery, stamina and perseverance in ways they could not have imagined. These qualities possessed by so many "ordinary" sergeants came to the fore when they faced the stark choice of surviving or giving up behind a wire, while watched by armed guards, deep in enemy territory, and in spite of brutal weather and a starvation diet. The incredible story of a brash and brilliantly conceived escape attempt from Stalag Luft XVII-B plays a major part in the narrative, and it is spell-binding.
Mr. Handy employs simple but eloquent language that takes the reader on a hard-to-put-down journey through five seasons in the life of a 21-year-old B-24 flight engineer and top turret gunner, who survives a shoot-down only to be imprisoned in infamous Stalag XVII-B. Events inside Stalag 17 are interwoven with interesting vignettes that bring to life Mr. Handy's memories of home, family and early life, which inform his ability to survive the prison ordeal. He ascribes well-deserved credit to his colleagues, from his crewmates to POWs with whom he lived in extremely close quarters for more than a year. He describes how each POW used the talents he had to their utmost, such that they were able to survive, defy the enemy at times, and create a vital internal safety net for their fellows when it mattered most. For a man imprisoned and isolated for a time due to circumstances that are movingly presented in the text, Mr. Handy presents a fair-minded view of the individual human beings behind the generic descriptors, "soldier," "prisoner," "enemy," "guard," and "civilian."
It is easy to get "lost" while reading this book, and is a challenge to return, during the intervals one puts it down, to the regular and occasionally mundane tasks of everyday living. For it is the ability to do these tasks, and to take advantage of all the small and large freedoms we have today, that was denied the prisoners of war like Mr. Handy and those whom he describes so vividly. And although the author doesn't indulge in self-praise, the reader cannot help but thank God for stalwart men like Mr. Handy and his comrades, who sacrificed so much for the liberty and prosperity we all enjoy today. It's a must-read for all ages.
Up Close and Personal View of Stalag 17.......2005-01-05
I am a WWII buff as I know had it not been for those who served we would not be here. So reading and appreciating those sacrifices is paramount to me.
I found this book "disturbing" (in a good way) in that the book literally took the reader inside the walls of Stalag 17.
It was a fearful experience and filled me with dread and agony for those who lived through that experience.
Some of the material mirrows what the movie "Stalag 17" depicted but certainly not with the Hollywood context of stalag life.
Ned Handy is one of countless heros who served all of us. God bless them, each and every one.
This is a book to cherish and help us understand the horror of war and the sacrifices of so many.

Book Description
If one organization is synonymous with keeping hope alive, even as a faint glimmer in the darkness of a prison, it is Amnesty International. Amnesty has been the light, and that light was truthbearing witness to suffering hidden from the eyes of the world."from the Preface
The first in-depth look at working life inside a major human rights organization, Keepers of the Flame charts the history of Amnesty International and the development of its nerve center, the International Secretariat, over forty-five years. Through interviews with staff members, archival research, and unprecedented access to Amnesty International's internal meetings, Stephen Hopgood provides an engrossing and enlightening account of day-to-day operations within the organization, larger decisions about the nature of its mission, and struggles over the implementation of that mission.
An enduring feature of Amnesty's inner life, Hopgood finds, has been a recurrent struggle between the "keepers of the flame" who seek to preserve Amnesty's accumulated store of moral authority and reformers who hope to change, modernize, and use that moral authority in ways that its protectors fear may erode the organization's uniqueness. He also explores how this concept of moral authority affects the working lives of the servants of such an ideal and the ways in which it can undermine an institution's political authority over time. Hopgood argues that human-rights activism is a social practice best understood as a secular religion where internal conflict between sacred and profanethe mission and the practicalities of everyday operationsare both unavoidable and necessary. Keepers of the Flame is vital reading for anyone interested in Amnesty International, its accomplishments, agonies, obligations, fears, opportunities, and challengesor, more broadly, in how humanitarian! organizations accommodate the moral passions that energize volunteers and professional staff alike.

"The Regency Returns: Since 1979 the Spinward Marches have been the birthplace of most Traveller campaigns. Although the Marches have undergone changes and felt their share of hard knocks, they have endured. And whether you think of the area as the Spinward Marches, the Domain of Deneb, or the Regency, it is still home sweet home, and it has now returned, in all of its multi-faceted glory, for Traveller: The New EraKeepers of the Flame: The citizens of the Regency are citizens of the Third Imperium. They are the reverent guardians and sturdy repository of all that was great in that society, and they are pledged to carry its light back into the darkened universe. But this has not been easy. The effort to keep the Virus at bay took the better part of two generations, and absorned most of the energy and productive capacity this society had. And now, with the great external threat seeming to recede, old repressed rivalries are re-emerging, just as the Regency is poised to spring again into the stars.Enemies Within and Without: The Regency is burdened with a restive class of disenfranchised nobility, shunted aside by the wave of democratic reforms. Aslan Ihatei squatters within the Regency borders, never quite assimilated into human society, are beginning to call attention to their demands, both from the Regency government and from their clan brethren outside the Regency border. Vargr splinter groups, driven into the Regency with the decimation of their own societies, will stop at nothing to fuel the recovery of their homeworlds in the Wilds. Sword World irredentism is again on the rise. And as if that weren't enough, their stable neighbors the Zhodani now seem to be coming completely apart, wracked by internal war and flooding the Regency with waves of refugees..."

Great Book!!!.......2006-07-10
Would recommend this book to anyone. Very exciting and made you want to read on to the next chapter!
Dude, you seriously need to chill.......2005-02-17
In the second book our weary traveller's end up at a mall populated by people who have bible verses for names. At first it seems like a safe-haven filled with adults to feed and take care of them.
But, Angerman begins to get more unstable amoung these people. They begin to separate the kids, dividing and conquering them easily, especially Hunter who longs for the approval of other men. Their sacred book has been separated from them, the twins have been taken away and they are not allowed to see them.
What is going on? And who is this mysterious new girl?
This book is the powerful sequel to Fire-Us, The Kindling. It is just as disturbing, chilling and exciting. A great book with powerful themes.
Very well-done.......2004-03-06
...In the second installment of the Fire-us, we pick up where The Kindling left off. The Family, consisting of Mommy, Hunter, Teacher, Action Figure, Teddy Bear, Baby, and Doll, with newcomers Angerman, Puppy, and Kitty, have been welcomed into a secret society of religious adults who had survived the deadly Fire-Us. They soon discover (some later than others)that this new-found paradise may be darker than it looks, and they are not as safe as they think they are.
This book was my least-favorite in the Trilogy, not through any fault of its own, but because I love the other two more. Though I have difficulty sympathizing with the new heroine introduced in The Keepers (Cory, a girl with a strange past), I feel the character development was wonderful; we see how our heros are, essentially, growing up, as afraid as they are of it.
Beautiful writing and gripping plot: 4 stars.
EXCELLENT WRITING WITH A TRAGICALLY FLAWED PREMISE.......2003-10-03
EXCELLENT WRITING WITH A TRAGICALLY FLAWED PREMISE
The Fire-Us trilogy is an entertaining post-apocalyptic thriller for those who are too young to remember the fears of nuclear annihilation that came to an end in the 1990's.
Unfortunately, in the final installment, the authors' political biases become all to clear.
For adult readers, this trilogy is an example of the kinds of evil allegations that our currend political Left is willing to spread about conservatives. If a conservative writer were to say such things about liberals he or she would be called a witch hunter, a McCarthyite, or worse. But so be it. The tale itself is entertaining enough on its own merits.
THE KEEPERS OF THE FLAME, introduces us to a religious cult by that name. It quickly becomes clear that The Flame is the same disaster that the children have always called Fire-Us.
In the first chapter we meet Cory, whose name with the Keepers is Corinthians 1:19. All the Keepers' names are Bible references. Cory is preparing for her wedding to Supreme Leader, who lives on Pisgah Island. She is deeply disturbed by what she saw in her Visioning in preparation for her wedding.
We learn that she once had an older sister named Ingrid who had been a Keeper before she fled after giving birth to the twins that the children call Puppy and Kitty. The Keepers welcome the children, but ominous signs quickly develop. Teacher wakes up to find that her Book has disappeared. The Keepers take charge of Puppy and Kitty and will not allow the rest of the band to see them. The group notices evidence of fire and observe that there are no books in the shopping mall known as the Crossroads. The shelves of the bookstores are all empty. Hunter faces a personal crisis. Concern for Puppy and Kitty rises higher when it becomes clear that they are Ingrid's twins. All such children must be taken to Pisgah for a mysterious Testing. None have ever returned. When a special rally announces that all the children will join the Keepers, they demand that Teacher must burn her Book.
The group manages to rescue Puppy and Kitty and escape, accompanied by Cory whose doubts have been growing as much because of her Visioning as by anything else. As the story ends, the group is pressing on to Pisgah where President is presumably being held by the Keepers. At a Civil War museum, Teacher and Cory become separated from the rest. But a mysterious message in the Book seems to give a clue where to find the rest.

Top-Notch Action-Fantasy.......2007-08-07
An unabashed 5 stars for this surprisingly well-written novel that's geared toward teens but really can be read by anyone who enjoys fantasy with a great, realistic herione and lots of non-stop action and thrills.
I have to say I seriously underestimated this book because it was fairly thin, and was part of a teen series. I was blown away, however, by how realistically rendered the characters were; especially Jenna, who, to my huge relief, not only used her head to make wise and moral decisions, but also had a clever tongue to go with her admirable personality.
Besides succeeding in characterization, the author also succeeds with the story. The book is extremely well-plotted, and you get the impression that the author already knows how everything will fit together at the very end of the series. The action never let up, and the dreams Jenna kept getting were a great plot detail because not only did they introduce mysteries/questions to answer in the future, but also answered some current ones. That way, the reader is excited to find out what's going to happen, but is not frustrated by not getting rewarded for his/her efforts.
And of course, what's a fantasy book without a romantic quandry? I'm happy to say that this is tastefully done and does not get in the way of the bigger goal: getting the boards. The villian is mysterious and evil enough to be scary, and the book is not afraid to go into more adult themes.
This is the third of the series but the first I've read. I'm definitely going to check out the other three, after this edge-of-your-seat read. It was everything I was looking for in a book, with something extra besides: a heroine that's cool, calm, and collected, and understands that there needs to be a balance between the head and the heart. What a breath of fresh air that was.
A Little Better.......2007-06-18
Jenna Solitaire has traveled to Pompeii with Simon Monk to try and retrieve the Board of Fire. The board was hidden by one of Jenna's ancestors in Mount Vesuvius. This action caused the volcano to erupt and destroy ancient Pompeii. The ghosts of those killed in the eruption are still wandering the island and many have taken to inhabit the local dogs. It turns out that Jenna's great-grandmother had a lover in the area before she journeyed to America. This old lover, once a priest, is still alive. He offers Jenna help in controlling the boards.
After Simon tries to find out more about his own past things begin to get sticky. But all things lead to Jenna having to go into the volcano and retrieve the board. Unfortunately an old prophesy says that when the board is removed, the volcano will erupt again thus destroying the area. How can Jenna get the board? How much help will her great-grandmother's lover be? What secrets will Simon learn about his own past? Will the forces arranged against Jenna be able to triumph? You will have to read to find out.
This one was a little better than the first two although there were some glaring continuity problems at the start. This is the first volume to mention needing a connection for the stolen Blackberry to work (still no mention of charging without a charger or how it could hook to European power outlets). At one point Jenna is saved by meeting the conditions of a prophecy. Later we find out those conditions were not met. How did she survive? Bad writing. It is also becoming clear that this four-book series is intended to be part of a larger work. A little better than the first two and I would put it at about 2 ½ stars.
Completely Amazing.......2007-03-13
I have read thousands of books so far in my life and spent several years recently as a bookseller... and still there are some books that just grip me and I can't let go of them. This series was like that for me.
This series is slated towards teens and I am definitely not in that age group, and I still love this series! I had to buy it for myself after reading the first one in advanced reader form (booksellers get these). I waited for the rest of the series and it was well worth the wait!
There are few books I read that have such a blend of humor, action, struggle, magic, wonder, and destiny. You can read this as lightly or seriously as you choose.
Jenna has taken me on a journey I wouldn't have had otherwise, and I wouldn't change that for anything!
Excellent series.......2007-01-22
Both my daughter and I loved the series. There is action, adventure, archaeology and mystery all rolled into one. We've read all four and can't wait for the next installment.
Another great addition!!!.......2006-11-26

Book Description
Traditional witches have preferred to remain anonymous, quietly practicing their craft. These elders are growing older and the torches are being passed to a new generation. This book is not about the elders; it is a record of their opinions, views, and comments of what the craft was and what they think it will become in the future.

Mistitled Perhaps?.......2004-11-08
I gave the book a *3* because I've never read it, yet from the reviews here on Amazon, it seems the book is mistitled. What does a bunch of neo-pagan witchcraft traditions have to do with "traditional witchcraft?" If someone can tell me I'd be just rhapsodic!
Excellent.......2004-05-14
I love this book. Very well-written and in plain English so everyone can understand.
I sincerely hope that we soon see more books from these ladies.
I have met Aradia myself and she is a wonderful person.
Great book for those new to and already in the Craft.......2003-06-29
I found this book a gathering of amazing people that had very similar desires to learn the ancient tradition of Witchcraft, yet all taking very different paths. As I read, I was taken through thier journey to find the Craft, to learning the Craft and passing on this legacy. You share their challenges from so long ago that unfortunately still exist today.
This was a great book for someone who has lived in the Craft for over 20 years. It was also a great for my family to understand what others have faced and overcome to preserve the Craft.
I would recommend this book to anyone that has lived in the craft and those who would just like to understand more about the traditions of the Craft.
Definately a classic!
Excellent fresh point of view.......2003-02-09
One of the things I liked about this book was something that other reviewers found lacking -- the fact that not everyone in this book was a BNP (Big Name Pagan). Instead, we get an interesting serving of elders of the community who have been around for a long time, but may not have been in the spotlight. That doesn't mean there aren't ANY big names in there -- Raymond Buckland, Hans Holzer, Leo Louis Martello, Judy Harrow, and Elizabeth Pepper (of Witches Almanac fame) are there, too.
The Craft has changed much in the last 30 years and I thank Davies and Lynch for taking this mental snapshot of what it was like then.
Opened up a whole new door.......2002-07-20
This is a wonderful book that explores various opinions, beliefs and history from several amazing people. This is the first book that I have been so interested in everyone's history with why they chose Witchcraft as their spiritual source. I have been awarded the pleasure of meeting some of the priestesses and priests in person, but hearing their stories enlightened me to parts of their lives I would have never learned before without this book. I would recommend for both people exploring Witchcraft and people that practice it. Blessed be and happy reading.
