Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

A Snarly Review.......2007-09-25

If I had to sum up this book in one word it would be "disappointing". Ms. Bishop creates a beautiful hierarchy of power with the Blood and drawing their power from Jewels, the delicate psychic roadways of the Winds, and an interesting take on death with the Demon Dead and Guardians. The geography of the different lands, the different races of creatures that occupied them, and the involvement of the Kindred were all wonderfully detailed and fresh. These aspects of the story are fascinating, well developed, and highly imaginative, and I truly wish the actual storyline could live up to this promise.

In contrast of the terrific world she created, Ms. Bishop's characters could not be any more two-dimensional and tiresome. For all of her attempts to write "Dark Fantasy" and to challenge traditional images of hell/darkness (with names like Saetan, Daemon, and Lucivar) she creates some pretty standard, dull heroes and villains. No one hero is capable of doing anything wrong--Jaenelle most of all. I don't think I've read a heroine this mind-numbing in a long time. For a story like this to work, there needs to be actual, palpable danger for the heroine and the heroine's world. There was no question or danger here--Jaenelle was all powerful, pure hearted, and of course could overcome the simple-minded evil Queens. Hardly scintillating material.

So far as writing skills go, I am entirely done with the word "snarl". There are other adjectives to describe guttural noises.

Even on a romance front, I was disappointed. Daemon, the only true attempt at a multidimensional character, felt like a washed-out letdown by Book 3. There was some nice tension from the first book--I enjoyed Daemon's struggle--but it led to absolutely no payoff. When Witch and he finally get it on, it's almost laughable.

In short, the whole story felt contrived. Ms. Bishop creates dark scenes (like rape or murder) with no real consequence (everyone is *really* ok), an entirely dull love story, and "danger" without there really being any threat.

Ms. Bishop is the true Sadi here--these books give the ghost of promise and tease the reader seductively...only to find the results flaccid and leaving the reader completely unfulfilled.

A (generous) two and a half-stars.

I recently stumbled onto this particular genre. And I can't believe how lucky I am. Where have I been all my life? It's fun. It's fantastic. It's absolutely amazing to me that someone can create an entire reality like this.

Anyway. I read this particular book from cover to cover and then, for the first time in my life, I turned right back to page 1 and started over. It is that good.

This book is Amazing. The very first paragraph caught me and the book never let go. I am an avid reader, of all books, and anymore it has become increasingly difficult to find a book with the power to grab your attention in the first 100 pages let alone the first paragraph. I will not sum up the book for you; my only advice would be to buy the book. The best way to describe this book is "All Encompasing."

While I cannot hope to write as graceful a review as every other person before me has, I will try to tell you what I can about this book, and why is should be part of your collection.

The book (though there are actually three combined into one lovely volume) is about a very original world. I won't delve too deep into it, because part of the fun is figuring it out as you go, getting all the tidbits and making your own dreams of it. But, this world, this is what grabbed me the most. It's not like all the other fantasy books I've read; where there's always the set 'bad guy' and the 'good guys' and oh woe is me, someone must save us all.

While that concept is present in this book, it is not drawn out and used as the only tagline. There are so many other pieces to this great piece of writing!

Beyond the world, there are the characters. The deliciously real characters who I myself end up crying for, and getting angry about. Anne Bishop really draws you in and you start to know them so well... there are so many things about them, you feel like you could walk past them on the street. They do things that you think they would do, that you know is what that character would want to do. It is all very well done, gracefully, and well-fleshed so that they are believable, likable, and in some cases, absolutely despicable.

The plot is wonderfully twisted. There are so many strands of it that are to be pieced together, it's like a treasure hunt. And each chapter that gives you another lead, another piece... it's so lovely. And then a few things click, and you mentally go 'ooooh, that's why he did that!' And the way all the conflicts meet up in the end, how everything comes together so well; it's a piece of art.

And the romance, of course. My boyfriend stuck out his tongue and refused when he'd heard me mention that, though I know he was reading it when I slept... but it is a focal point. Enough that women will swoon, but not enough, I think, to turn men away from reading and enjoying this book.

With all the different characters, situations, and happenings in this book, there will surely be a thing for you to love and connect with, something to draw you in. If you give it a chance, I can assure you, you will not be disappointed. So... read some more reviews, think it over, and then do it, and enjoy reading about the life of the SaDiablo line, and all those who are drawn into their plight... :)

So-so.......2007-08-24

This book was ok. I started out liking Mona Mayfair, but by the end I couldn't stand her. Now don't get me wrong, it was nice to have the 'Brat Prince' "write" again, I think that Anne has given up on the dark side. She's gone spiritual. There's nothing wrong with that, but if you've read other books of Anne Rice's you'll notice a difference in this one. The first chapter was tedious and boring; it made me want to stop reading, right then and there! However it's a lot of babble so I skipped to chapter 2 like Lestat suggests. It does tie up the loose ends with the Taltos, which I always wondered about. I hope that if Mrs. Rice decides to do another Vampire book that she looks back to her original books. There was nothing wrong with "Memnoch the Devil" a lot of what is talked about in the first chapter, I just think that a lot of people didn't understand that she was trying to warn us that maybe we've reached the end with Lestat. This is the first book since "Memnoch the Devil" that has been written by Lestat, maybe she's out of ideas. I mean come on! How much MORE can he do? After you've been to Heaven and Hell and back, there's just not much left that seems to be so important right? I'm sure that's how she's looking at this through Lestat's eyes. So those of you criticizing Anne for being full of herself, you all are just silly! Overall the book was ok. Had its high points and low points. Not one of her best work but I will continue to keep it.

I didn't realize this was the end..........2007-06-27

I read this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not as much as some of the other Chronicles, but I still devoured it.

What I didn't realize was that this is the last of the Vampire Chronicles. Yes, I am a little late in the game figuring it out, but the shock is still palpable! I finished Christ Our Lord: Out of Egypt, and began to wonder about her return to vampires and witches.

I read Anne's post here, in which she declared "...thank God..." regarding Blood Canticle being the last of the Chronicles. I have to very, very sadly and vehemently disagree. I am going to miss looking forward to that next adventure.

I will be reading the next Christ book, but not with the same enthusiasm I held for our old friends Lestat, Louis, Marius, Armand, Pandora, Gabrielle, Rowan, Mona...all of them.

I would like to thank Anne for giving me such a great escape--for creating a world that was so easy to slip into and get lost in.

Very dissapointed.......2007-06-24

I was angry enough after reading Memnoch, and I wasn't interested in the books that came after, as they did not have Lestat (or Louis)as the narrator. But Blood Canticle had. Or so I thought. After reading the first ten or twenty pages I came to the conclusion that the narrator of this book was not Lestat, but the author trying to find back a character she lost so long ago. I mean, Memnoch was bad, but at least she used the right voice! After those twenty or so pages I decided I did not want this book in my bookcase any longer, it being a disgrace to the other vampire cronicles stored in there, so I brought it to the nearest second-hand bookshop and never ever wanted to look into it again.

Reviewers too hard on Anne Rice.......2007-06-15

There are some extremely harsh reviews here, and I think they are very insulting to Anne Rice. She is right in her response: if you don't like her writing, don't read it. She doesn't owe any of us anything, especially not closure. The Vampire Chronicles, like the rest of her work, belong to her. They are her intellectual property to do with as she sees fit: she can take the story in any direction she wishes, and she can stop writing them all together. Lestat is hers, not ours. I really don't understand the nastiness and anger in so many of these reviews.

This is an interesting book. It's a kind of part 2 to Blackwood Farm, which is wonderful, and it continues the blending of the Mayfair Witches and Vampire Chronicles, which is intriguing, illuminating, and fun. I loved it, and I'll surely reread it over the years. I say that if you are buying Blackwood Farm, absolutely buy Blood Canticle with it, no question.

We all need to respect authors and their work. We're lucky to have been able to read Anne Rice's stories. I'll consider myself lucky to read more of her stories if she chooses to publish more, and I hope she knows that she is deeply respected and valued by many, many readers.

Recommended to Parents who canýt get their daughters to read.......2004-06-15

I purchased the Sweep series for my 13 year old daughter in the hopes that maybe she would read. "She hated to read." Well I was amazed, and could not get her to go to sleep, as she would spend the whole night, with a night-light on reading these books. She enjoyed them so much, and could not stop talking first about Cal and then Hunter, that I had to see what all the fuss was about.
Well after two weeks, a book a day, for a girl who hated to read, it sparked my curiosity, so I started reading, and was surprised to find out how enjoyable a Teen book about Teen Witches could be. I am not really into Wicca, but these books are really enjoyable. I am on my fifth book, and my daughter read each twice, and is know on the Circle of Three Series. I have to highly recommend these books to those parents who can not get their daughters to read. These are excellent stories, full of fantasy, horror, and fun.

This one is also good...just like the other ones. Morgan is still trying to understand her powers, but doing well when she has Cal with her. But, something strange is happening that is making Morgan scared. What could it be? You will have to read and find out, just typing this review temps me to read it again. GO get this book, you wont regret it.

Morgan's seventeenth birthday is approaching and she should be very happy. But the rest of her life is not a wonderful as it should be. Cal is great, and her anchor. But now she has learned more about her mother and her clan. Her coven is losing some members and might be losing more. Bree is still distant and is mixed up with a strange witch. Who are the strange witches and what do they have against Morgan and Cal?

Most of these questions are answered by the end of the book which culminates on the night before her birthday.

Another fine book about a girl coming to terms with the changes in her life (adoption, love, witchcraft, friends, etc.).

Morgan is a blood witch. She was adopted. Morgan's life has been changing and is changeing still. THen Hunter another blood witch enters her life. From the very first moment she saw him she disliked him but now she absolutely hates him. Hunter is saying things about Cal that hurt her. Then things take a turn for the worst and Morgan is to blame. What did she do? Read this book and find out!

Sweep 3: Blood Witch.......2002-06-30

Morgan is still trying to piece her life together. Bree has deserted her and her adoptive family can't even begin to understand her. The only person she seems to trust and have on her side is Cal. Cal her wonderful boyfriend who believes they are murin breatha dans, soulmates. But then Hunter comes and shakes things up. He claims that he is Cal's half brother and a member of the International Council of Witches. He says that he has been sent to investigate Cal and Selene who are believed to be practicing dark magick. Morgan denies this and refuses to believe him. But she does feel that something dark and strange is going on and if she doesn't figure things out soon she could face hte same tragic death her parents did.

Slow but unique.......2003-08-04

The trilogy got off to a slow start with Witch Boy in which Marcus, a newbie at sorcery, goes through a pubescent-like confusion at the changes he is experiencing, only to discover his father is an evil witch whom he must confront. Somehow I missed volume two, Dark Prince, and feel as out of the loop as I did with the first book in the series, where the reader feels just as clueless as poor Marcus as he tries to figure out what happened to his beloved girlfriend Jules. In Blood War, the coven has gone too far, taking not only Marcus's girlfriend and his dog, but his mother. On the quest to rescue her, Marcus does indeed meet his father, who inspires him to make careful choices about his own life.
Darker than Harry Potter, realistic teen language and bloody violence abound. No need to worry about keeping this one out of the hands of middle schoolers, most will not be willing to trudge through the slow paced story or decipher the mythology and symbolism in spite of the attractive cover art. At the conclusion Marcus cannot regain what he has lost, so the plot suggests that at best first love is painful and at worst, sex kills.
May have some appeal for goth teens. If you buy one, get them all for continuity while reminding yourself that one has to admire Chris Lynch for trying something new, even if it isn't stellar.

The worst of the Blair Witch Series...so far.......2005-07-30

This book, the fourth in the entertaining and likeable Blair Witch series, is a must read for die-hard Blair Witch fans who MUST read every book in the series. But, regardless, this book is a disappointing read. The Blood Nightmare has little to do with the classic Blair Witch legend and instead focuses on dreams and Native American culture. After reading the previous books, which all focus on the typical aspects of the legend (Elly Kedward, Rustin Parr, the drowning of Eileen Treacle) this book seems completely random and a little out of place in the series. It is also written in third person, while previous books were written in first. There are also several occasions where the book becomes pointless and boring.

On a positive note, the character of Lillith is incredibly likeable and easy to identify with (much easier than her arrogant counterpart). Readers will be drawn into her heartbreaking story of being abandoned by her parents and locked into a mental asylum because of her prophetic dreams. But the few pages that describe Lillith and her story are not enough to save this dry, cliche tale.

If you are a true fan of the series, by all means read this book, but be sure to read The Witch's Daughter, The Dark Room, and The Drowning Ghost first. These books preceeding Blood Nightmare are far better and will convince readers that the series is worthwhile. The Blood Nightmare will drive readers away.

Worst in the Series.......2002-08-29

Out of all the books in "The Blair Witch Files" I think this is the worst. I usually find myself very interested in these books, but this book bored me. I don't recommend this one.

The best of the series so far.......2001-04-22

Frank Hunter is new to Eldersburg. While driving one night he gets lost and ends up in a town called `Blair'. Frank immediately decides that there is something strange about this town - there are no lights, very few buildings and he can hear a young child crying in the woods. He assumes it is a ghost town until a pale young woman appears. Despite the fact she is obviously human, she ignores him and Frank realises that she is sleepwalking. Soon, other people emerge from the woods, all of whom are walking in their sleep. Frank attempts to communicate with the woman, but just as she `wakes', an old man charges toward them wielding an axe. Abruptly, the inhabitants of the town disappear.

The next day at school, Frank is amazed to recognise some of the people he saw in Blair the previous night. However, no one he speaks to seems to have any recollection of the events that took place, with the exception of Lillith, a purple haired girl who bears a striking resemblance to the woman Frank saw in Blair. She appears terrified of Frank and gives him the cryptic message "You're going to die. And there's nothing anyone can do to save you." As a boy is found dead, Frank and Lillith must work together to discover the truth. Why are these people drawn to Blair, and what is the connection between the woman in Lillith's dream and the Blair Witch herself?

"Blood Nightmare" is the fourth book in the Blair Witch Files series and probably my favourite so far. I have read and enjoyed the previous three books and this one was as good, if not better, as the dream world made it more interesting. The Blair Witch Files are more fun to read than the Point Horror books I have read, and a lot scarier as well! I would recommend it to all teenage horror fans as both creepy and entertaining.

The best book in a lame series.......2001-01-25

Finally a good Blair Witch book. And this one is REALLY good! Frank Hunter is a cool character. Zoe was cool, too. I wish the other Blair Witch books were this interesting, but they are not. This one had a parallel world, an evil witch and a villain that was really scary. I might read more Blair Witch books, but only if they are as good as this was.
