Book Description

Far away on Wilde Island, Princess Rosalind is born with a dragon claw where her ring finger should be. To hide the secret, the Queen forces her to wear gloves at all times until a cure can be found, so Rosalind can fulfill the prophecy to restore the family to their rightful throne.
But Rosalind’s flaw cannot be separated from her fate. When she is carried off by the dragon, everything she thought she knew falls apart. The dragon sees beauty in her talon where her mother saw only shame, and Rosalind finally understands what her mother has truly denied her.
Carey has written a stunning portrayal of the complex relationship between a mother and daughter in a lyrical novel sure to thrill readers who love fantasy—and those who don’t.

4 out of 5 stars Well written Adventure story.......2007-08-26

A well written YA book. It was not dumbed down like some YA books are, the writing was smooth and kept the reader interested in the lead character.
The book tells a story of a princess, the 21st decendent of Queen Evaine, King Arthur's younger sister. The family was banished to the island when the Queen married a men that her father did not approve. The legend was that the 21st Queen will bring peace and honour back to the name of Pendragon.

Our heroine is the princess and only she and her mother know of her terrible secret. The poor girl has a Dragon's claw for her ring finger. Her mother keeps it hidden at all times under golden gloves, and goes to great lengths that the secret is never discovered. When the princess meets the female dragon, and later the dragon is killed, she is kidnapped by the dragon's mate to care for the pips (baby Dragons)
The dragon's see beauty where her mother only saw shame, and it is at the end of the story that the dragons give her the gift of Peace between Human and Dragon.
The adventures are exciting and the book should be recomended to any young Dragon Lover.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely a great book..........2007-07-18

We gave this book to our 13 year old daughter for her birthday this year. Her words when I asked how it was were, "The most awesome book ever!" This is coming from an avid reader... she breezed through this 302 page book in just three days. Right now she is reading the Bartimaeus Trilogy, but says she would like to read more by this author in the near future.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic read for young adult.......2007-07-18

In this young adult fantasy, Rosalind's fate was written in the stars, read by Merlin, some 600 years before she was born. Rosalind's ancestor, Evaine, was the younger sister of King Arthur. Evaine married an outlaw, was banished to Wilde Island, and erased from family history.

Three things are said of the twenty-first queen of Wilde Island; "She shall redeem the name Pendragon. End war with the wave of her hand. And restore the glory of Wilde Island."

The way her mother sees it, with England in the midst of civil war Rosalind will marry Prince Henry, future king of England, thereby fulfilling all aspects of the prophecy. But what if Rosalind and Henry don't get along? Not that they've even heard from the Queen of England, though they assume she is aware of the prophecy. Then there's Rosalind's ring finger. It's a dragon's claw. So far she and her mother have hidden it behind golden gloves, but that won't work forever. They MUST find a cure soon--a cure that is hard to find when potential healers aren't told what the exact problem is.

When an envoy from England comes to Wilde Island, things start looking up a little, especially after they slay the dragon that has been harassing the Island forever. What should be one of the most triumphant moments in their history turns horrifying when the dragon's mate returns to punish the people, and takes a special interest in Rosalind. Before long, Rosalind's life will never be the same, and it doesn't look like the prophecy could ever be fulfilled.

There is so much more to this book! So many more levels and layers to the story! Rosalind may be a Princess with a dragon's claw in a faraway time and place, but her relationship with her mother is something you could see in anyone's life. Her desire to be normal and accepted are the same things every teenager experiences. So while the circumstances aren't something we experience everyday, the people in them, and their reactions to them, are completely realistic and relatable.

Armchair Interviews says: Part fairy tale, part mythology, part legend, all around fantastic!

5 out of 5 stars Dragon's Keep a keeper.......2007-06-29

"What a great story. The ending is unexpected." I am quoting the words of one of my 5th grade students. He requested this book as his prize for reading 200 books this year. He could not stop talking about the story. Based on his response I would recommend this book for young adults.

3 out of 5 stars NOT BAD.......2007-06-09

THIS IS A GOOD BOOK AND I READ IT IN TWO DAYS, BUT IT'S MORE OR LESS LIKE ROSALIND'S DIARY AND I FIND THOSE KINDS OF BOOKS DULL. THERE NOT MUCH ROMANCE IN THIS (IF YOU HAVE READ DRAGON LOVERS YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN, IF YOU HAVE NOT READ DRAGON LOVERS YET READ THIS BOOK FIRST THEN DRAGON LOVERS). THERE'S NOT MUCH EXCITEMENT UNTILL THE LAST THREE CHAPTERS AND THERE'S NO VILLAN UNTILL THE LAST FOUR. AND F.Y.I. THE DRAGON CUTS HIS EGGS FROM HIS MATES STOMACH THEN TAKES THEM HOME.

2 out of 5 stars Into Confusion and Oblivion.......2007-04-08

I don't know how Lynne Ewing came up with this story. I was looking forward to reading about Serena because she seemed to be one of the more interesting characters and was I sorely disappointed. I don't understand how you can have a romance in a book and not really give the reader anything to go on. If Serena can't remember her memories, then how are we supposed to get a feel for a connection between her and Stanton? They had absolutely no chemistry to me. Stanton and Vanessa seemed to have more chemistry to me (later I found out Lynne Ewing was originally going to hook those two up). Too bad Lynne didn't hook Michael up with someone else later in the series. Personally, I think Vanessa and Stanton would have made a better couple. I understand others might have a different opinion, but that's just how I feel about it.

I give it 2.5 stars for at least being well-written, if not the most interesting or the best of the series. So far, it's my least favorite.

5 out of 5 stars Into the Cold Fire Review By: Diana.......2006-10-18

This book is about a girl who might be endangered by a groupd of people who is after her. These group of people are bad people who try to bring good people to the bad side. This book is a magical book with girls who have powers and they are trying to fight the bad people away. I liked this book because each character has a different personality and different ways to handle things in situations dealt together.

4 out of 5 stars A Review of Into the Cold Fire........2006-10-17

I thought this book was good. It had a lot of action in it. I also liked it because it had magical powers that noone in real life could have. This book is great for teens who like a little bit of romance, drama, and action.

4 out of 5 stars Daughters of the moon...the story continues..........2006-02-19

NOTE: PLEASE READ THE FIRST BOOK BEFORE YOU READ THIS BOOK. THE STORY WILL BE RUINED IF YOU DO NOT READ THE OTHER TWO BOOKS FIRST. THIS STORY IS HARD TO FOLLOW IF YOU DO NOT EVERYTHING ABOUT THE SERIES AND ALL THE REALATIONSHIPS. THIS BOOK IS POORLY WRITTEN AND HARD TO FOLLOW IF YOU DON'T READ THE FIRST BOOK.

Serena is a goddess, a daughter of the moon. Sent by Selene to protect the human beings from an ancient evil called the Atrox. Jimena, Serena, Vanessa, and Catty are all daughters of the moon. Each of them has a unique gift. Vanessa can become invisible, Catty can travel in time, Serena reads minds, and Jimena sees into the future. Lynne Ewing has designed all of the books to show us everyone's point of view at different times. This book is based on Serena.

The story beginns with Serena at the beach with her brother Collin. Collin is a surfer. Serena gets a little bored watching him surf so she walks down the beach until she stumbles into a party. A girl dressed in a dress throws herself into a fire. Everyone at the party cheers Lecta. Serena at first thinks the girl's name is Lecta. Serena freaks about because a girl threw herself into the fire but then sees that the fire flames are blue. Stanton suddenly calls out to Serena, then all of the sudden she wakes up. Serena is covered with cuts thinking she fell into the ocean. Her brother come's and finds her and asks her what happened, but she can't remember.

Morgan gets a crush on Collin, Serena's brother. Serena can't stand Morgan and doesn't think that Collin and her would be good together. Then Çollin tells her one day that Morgan thinks Serena needs a boyfriend. Serena is very angry and can't help but wonder if Collin agrees with Morgan. To add to all of the mess, Jimena and Collin start fighting. Serena isn't sure she can handle the preasure. To top it off Serena's crushing on a new kid at school.

Then Jimena tells Serena a vision she had. Serena gets very upset because she doesn't want to destroy the daughters of the moon. But Jimena's vision have always come true. A few days later Stanton come's and tells her that she needs to be careful about the new kid at school. He also tells Serena that he erased her memories on the beach. Serena is very shocked by this. Then Stanton tells her that Stanton and her were in a relationship. A few nights later Serena reads Collins mind about Jimena. Then once the secret of the new kid is revealed the key gets thrown into the cold fire. This book tests the faith between all of the girls, and there values.

5 out of 5 stars Daughters of the Moon: Anairis Review.......2005-10-29

This is a story everybody should read including teenagers like us.We could relate some things from ourlife. This book is about a girl finding out what she was ment for.She wouldn't let anything about having a boyfriend keep her down. This story was romantic, action, and true friendship.Serena must know why the Antrox are after her and Jemina has a premonition that Serena is going to betray them. Then Venessa comes again and turns invisible to keep away from from the cold fire.Another thing how could cold fire be cold.Serena was the one who can go through it and save her own friends life.Jemina was thankful that she could try to be more trustworthy and see what the inside from not her premonitions and see for herself.Serena is phychic and she is one of mysteries of the Daughters of the Moon. If you want to hear more about the Daughters of the Moon check out the Volume 3.Jemina couldn't stop thinking of Veto who died last year and he appears in her kitchen. While she was going to ask him what is he doing here he comes up and kisses her in the mouth .Was her feelings still strong? She felt his cheeck and his small scar that was warm. What do you think of that if you want hear more check it out!

1 out of 5 stars A peculiar sense of dêjá vu..........2006-12-03

I started out a loyal fan of Daughters of the Moon, but after the fifth book I began to get bored, and after the ninth all their appeal was lost. The books are repetitive, reusing the same scenes. In every single book, there is a scene where someone does something like sneaking up behind the main character and then showing themself to be a friend. The prose is average, and the characters are unrealistic and interchangeable, hardly developed past their clothing preferences. The descriptions of looks and powers are overused. And the girls can go wherever they want, anytime, without their parents ever freaking out. Ha. The attempt at an urban fantasy setting now fails to elicit any sense of magic. It worked the first time around, but not the twelfth.

Wow! This was by far the best book in the series!!! i completely loved it. I didn't really like the ending but it was still good. too bad there isn't another book in the series but it's okay. Time to start sons of the dark!!! hopefully it's just as good as daughters of the moon

4 out of 5 stars The Becoming.......2006-06-24

Something has been bothering Tianna. Her instincs are telling her to run away from Los Angeles, but why? She has great friends, a nice boyfriend, and most of all, an important destiny to fulfill as a Daughter of the Moon.

Soon, Tianna's world starts to fall apart. Derek has been pressuring her to have sex, girls at school are spreading vicious rumors about her, and more importantly, her telekinetic powers have gone awry. Lately she feels like unleashing her goddess powers and destroying anything and everything. The emotion scares her, and to top it all off, a strange black shadow has been following her all week. Is it the Atrox?

Tianna discovers that the destiny for which she had been born is to "become". But what will she become?

Read the book and you'll find out. Tianna's actions cause the other Daughters to be captured by the Atrox.

I have loved the DOTM since my friend introduced me a few years ago. I especially loved the 13th book because it was such a new story development, and you find out a little more about the Atrox. The ending was so shocking, so of course I was dying to know about a 13th book. I actually wrote to Ms. Ewing and received a very nice reply. She is working on a 13th book(something very special),but she had to take a break due to some deaths in the family. She is also working on a new series that will come out spring of '07. So to answer the question everyone is dying to know: YES! THERE WILL BE A 13th DAUGHTER'S OF THE MOON!!!!

5 out of 5 stars For what it is..........2006-09-09

...I really enjoyed the book. My 18 year old daughter brought the book home last year, and she can't get enough of it or the series of books under the Daughter's of the Moon series.

I wouldn't personally reccommend the book for the younger teen audience, as it deals with some more grown up situations than a 13 or 14 year old may really understand, and with the fantasy elements and the supernatural aspects of the book, a slightly older audience would probably be better able to read the books for what they are.

In all, the book has a great story, interesting characters, and seeing things from a point of view that is not what one would normally find in books of this nature really makes the book compelling.

I would recommend it for the young adult crowd.

5 out of 5 stars Stanton is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!yummy!!!!!!!!.......2005-06-17

This story is the best I, ve read in all the series. It shows Stanton's pointo of view. You get to know him a little better and understand all the problems he faces as a follower because of his love for Serena.Stantons a dream guy. He's cute, mysterious, and has really cool powers.
I think the author should write more books on him and stop writing Sons of the Dark!!

3 out of 5 stars A little Male Perspective.......2005-03-19

This was the book that made me keep reading after I read the first in the series. I wanted to get to the book that I knew would be focused on Stanton and his point of view. It wasn't as fufilling as I had hoped, however, it was not as dissapointing as the book told from Serena's P.O.V. What is great about this book of this series as all of the background information we are getting, Stanton's past, that of some of his fellow followers and more of the technicalities of following the Atrox. The book also does a nice job of leaving you wondering what is going to happen next. It doesn't necessarily leave you with a burning desire to find out what happened next, but a mild curiousity that could lead to me reading it, or not.
And I still don't get the attraction between him and Serena. I almost want him to hook up with Cassandra, she seems more interesting in many ways.

5 out of 5 stars Stanton's story.......2005-03-08

I read this book along with the Secret Scroll this week-end. I love Stanton. I can't believe what he did to save Serena. I liked seeing into his life and knowing what he thinks. The book held me captive and I couldn't stop reading until I had finished it.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books Ever.......2005-01-20

The Lost One by Lynne Ewing is one book of a fantastic series. The book tells about a 5 girls who become close friends by finding out that they are all special in one way or another. Catty can time travel, Vanessa can become invisible, Serena can read minds, Jimena can tell the future,
and Tianna can move things with her mind. These 5 girls make up the Daughters of the Moon. "Tu es dea, filia lunar. You are a goddess, a Daughter of the Moon"(Ewing 271). These girls come together to try to help Catty who has gone missing. If they dont find her they will all be destoyed forever. Will they ever get Catty back in time? Will the Atrox finally destroy The Daughters of the Moon? To find that out you'll have to read the
book. I absolutely love this book. It is the kind of book that always keeps you on your toes. When you start reading this book you will never want to put it down. The Author mixes mystery, danger and love into this book. I would recommend this book to people who love mystery and adventures because that's all what the book is, a great big adventure.

This a a very interesting book. If you like stories about girls who have powers. Then this a a good book for you to read. IN this book it is about a girl name Catty. In this book she is trying to find her real mom. While she tries to find her mom she bumps into something strange. A guy is trying give her this little message thing to help her. BUt she still doesn't know that who it is though. So anyways she finds out a little thing about the passage. In the middle of the story she finds out who her mother and all that good stuff.

4 out of 5 stars The Secret Scroll.......2006-10-18

What would you do if you had dreamable powers? Clean your room, get rid of your annoying younger sibling, who knows maybe even same the world? An amazing book named The Secret Scroll is about four girls that have unbelievable powers. The Secret Scroll is part of a series called Daughters of the Moon. In this book one of the characters is named Catty. Catty has never met her birth mother. So, Catty travels back in time (which is her power) to meet her mother. Her mother gives her a necklace that could destroy the evil Atrox. The only trick is she has many people that are working for the Atrox, trying to find her.
I think the book was incredible. A lot of stuff comes up that you wouldn't suspect. I definitely recommend this book.

4 out of 5 stars Daughters of the moon: the secret scroll book #4.......2005-10-24

This is a series of books that are about 4 girls that have special powers. This one is better than the 3rd one for me. each book is about a different girl of the 4 girls and it tells their points of views. i thought this book was a lot more exciting. my favorite one was the 1st one. when the chapters end they just leave you hanging and it makes you just want to keep reading it. you never know whats going to happen next and it makes you really think about it. when you predict something will happen your usually wrong because its hard to guess what will happen next. it was just a really good book to read!

I read this book over the week-end and loved it. stanton played a great role in this one by the way he went out and helped Catty. The story also introduced a new character but Stanton is still my favorite. The scene at the park was the best with the merry-go-round.

3 out of 5 stars Way better than its predecessors.......2005-03-06

This is the best in the series so far. (I am currently reading the 5th book) Ewing's portrayl of Catty is the most realistic and fully realised. She even comes across well in the other books, her character is always well defined and unconfused. This book also focuses a little more on the technicalities of being a moon goddess than any of the others and sounds far less hokey in doing so. Stanton has a nice featuring role, which is good, because he is the strongest character in the whole series (the most interesting too, that bad boy that needs to be redeemed is always appealing). It is also nice to see a glimpse of another generation of Moon Goddesses and how someone else could be as frustrated with Maggie as I am. I hope this is a sign the rest of the series is picking up in quality.

Book Description

Maggie is running out of time on this earth. And before she can name her successor, she reflects on the incredible, age-old journey that brought her to where she is. As a girl in ancient Athens, her father was a great warrior and leader of men. However, it was Maggie, known then as Penelope, who chose to battle the greatest enemy of all-the Atrox. After seeing an innocent man succumb to the Atrox and his shadowy followers, she takes a vow to help cleanse the world of its evil. But in doing so, she may have to forego the love of the great soldier, Hector, and lose her sister to the dark side.

3 out of 5 stars Only Average.......2005-04-11

I read #9 many moons ago, and when i picked this book up, i was really excited. I wouldn't say that i was necessarily disappointed but it wasn't one of the best. My first thought was that Ms. Ewing's contract required a certain number of books, and she needed this one to complete that quota.
Penelope, aka Maggie, is the daughter of an Athenian Warrior, at least that's what she thinks. As she learns through her trials she is destined to take the place of the current mentor of the Daughters of the Moon. But of course she has to go into the depths of Nefandus, a type of underworld for the Atrox.
On her way, she meets a Spartan Warrior, shamed by having lived through battle. As we learn at the end of the book, we've met the character Chrysippus once before, and it's an exciting discovery.
This book took me the longest to finish, usually, i finish these books w/in a few hours, this took me a couple days. And like the Daughters Maggie has fallen in love w/ someone who was taken away from her by evil. Such a Goddess thing to do.
I was never really interested that much in Maggie, but i am glad that i found out some things about her.
What frustrated me the most was that we didn't learn her successor. GRRRR!

5 out of 5 stars Maggie's story.......2004-10-24

Personally, I'm glad Lynne wrote this book. In this book she explained everything about Maggie. It was a sad ending though (sniff).

Maggie is an important character. Since the first volume I wanted to know more about her and this book explains it.

Hooray for Maggie!!!!

4 out of 5 stars It was okay.......2004-10-01

Even though we found out some stuff about Maggie (the ending was pretty sad) it was a boring book. I missed the party life that the Daughters have. We do find out some stuff about her and how she became the Mentor to the Daughters. And something that Maggie has never mentioned before.....

5 out of 5 stars An excellent book.......2004-09-09

This is another of my top three favorite DotM books and milestone in the DotM series. It explores Maggie's past and shows you how things that went on in the present were started in the past. It also shows how much faith Maggie has and the obstacles she's overcome to be the woman the Daughters love most. It was an excellent book, and I truly enjoyed it.

1 out of 5 stars Not that exciting - -.......2004-09-01

I was dissapointed in this book. Yes, Maggie is a very important character in the series, but i do not think the Ewing should have made a book all abut her. I misssed the Daughters and the Followers. It was interesting, but it did not suck me in like the others did. I actually put the book down for more then an hour!! But, I guess it is important to know about Maggie and her struggles.

I DO HOPE SHE MAKES ANOHTER BOOK ABOUT STATON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars great book .......2006-11-02

This book is awesome even though I haven't finished it. Kyle sounds so cool but her dad is so mean. So far it is like he dosen't even love Catty.

5 out of 5 stars magnificent! .......2005-10-05

This book is awesome. I loved everything about it. Since reading book #5, i've been reading like crazy, trying to find other books. When I got this book, I read it in 5 days. It has every factor that makes it a great book. It has drama, love story, friendship, and family values.

Catty and Kyle are my favorite couple, next to Vannessa and Michael. I think it's great when Catty realizes that someday, she has to face the Atrox alone. I hope Kyle could help her. I idolize the way Lynne Ewing wrote all of the Daughters of the Moon books because it makes me visualize what is actually happening in the story. i can't wait to read book 12!

5 out of 5 stars Heck of a lot better than #10.......2005-04-11

I picked this book up last night at the local library, and i finished half of it in 2 hours! This was so much better than THE TALISMEN (sorry maggie)

The Secret Scroll has been sold to the musuem, and everyone visiting it is getting a little sick. Catty and the rest of the Daughters then try to steal it back, to save mankind (of course!) The scene where the girls try to steal the Manuscript back is quite comical, almost a 3 stooges movie.

AND we have another love interest. and he's a bad boy. literally. This book is quite a rollercoaster between one emotion of betrayal and hate to loving that person and wanting to jump down his jeans! i can relate to Catty, feeling a little insecure about herself because all her friends have boyfriends and she doesnt.

The scene w/ Chris and Catty is extremely sad. She meets her father, some powerful Inner-Circle Atrox dude.

I finsihed this whole book in one sitting. it was great. i cant wait to read the 12th book, and she better stop writing her male counterpart series and finish this one. I NEED TO KNOW EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Catty meets her father.......2005-03-18

The secret scroll has become an attraction at the art museum. Catty has to steal it before people start dying from the curse on the secret scroll. She almost has it but Kyle stops her. Kyle has his reason for wanting the secret scroll. The book is good but what you think is going to happen doesn't happen so the ending is sad. Catty gets to find out more about who she is, too.

5 out of 5 stars Daughters of The Moon TV Series?.......2004-12-05

I think we should try to make it happen, i think these books are so good that they deserve to make a tv series off of this, if we love it so much we should get out there and say something, i personaly think they could make this series a Teen TV series..Girls think about it....And i have to say Jimena is my favorite, i like her with her gangster self....;)

This book is about a sixten year old girl named Jimena, who has to go back to the past, and team up with her enemy to warn her friends from being captured by the Atrox. If I gave this book a rating it would be 4 stars, but I don't think that it would be my judgement that will pursway you to read this book.

Reasons why I would give this book the rating that I gave would be becuase there a lot of plot twists in the story, and there a bunch of dramatic scenes in the story.

5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2004-10-01

This book jumps into the action in the beginning but what happenes to Jimena in the end was sad. This book has a twist to it that will shock you a little bit. This book reached one of my DotM top 5 faves.

5 out of 5 stars The best in the series!.......2004-09-09

This is my favorite DotM book. I love how Ewing portrays Jimena and how she has crafted Jimena's personality. Jimena seems like a warrior/goddess which makes this book all the more entertaining. It also illustrates the bonds of friendship the daughters have and the struggle they all endure to destroy the Atrox. I loved this book, and steadily remains at the top of my favorite DotM books.

4 out of 5 stars Library perspective.......2007-04-24

If I were to pick up this book to read personally, I'd be disappointed--for all the same reasons various adult reviewers have given.

On the other hand, I have the perspective of working in a public library's Youth Services department, and youngish teenagers are gleefully devouring this series as quickly as they can secure copies. If you're considering purchase for a girl age 12-14, you'll likely miss an opportunity to nourish her on higher-quality literature--but you're also likely to get enthusiastic hugs of gratitude, an encouraged reader, and a lot of excitement from your happy teen. She'll be thrilled!

5 out of 5 stars Sweet powers!.......2006-10-29

This book is decent. more than decent just so fun to read and has so manys books in the series i had to order them all togethor and couldn't stop reading untill the end of almost ALL 12 of them.
Everyone of the girls and guys have atleast one book in the series and have clashing or unalike personalitys. this makes it so i got to see a big veiw on things.
i f you're a magical powers , love , and action type of reader then you will love this book

4 out of 5 stars Daughters of the Moon, yay or nay?.......2006-10-17

This book is about four teenage girls who are gifted. They each have a "power." Together they are known as The Daughters of the Moon. But they cannot let other people know about their "gift" because then they would be publized. There is a "bad guy" called the Antrox. He and his followers try to defeat them and claim thier unique powers.

Well this book was Fantasy, so it wasn't very realistic. When I first started reading this book, it moved very slow for my taste. It was like that until about halfway through the book. But now I am glad that I read it because it really picked up. I am looking foward to reading the rest of the sieres!

This book wasn't really like any other that I have read. But I really enjoyed it.

5 out of 5 stars The Goddess Of The Night Book Review By: Lauren Kaufman.......2006-08-04

I loved this book, it was filled with lots of excitment, for example it was very exciting the night when Vannessa felt like someone was following her. Also when she and Catty went back in time to see\find out who was following her, that also when they went back Vannessa heard a voice say I'll get you when you are alone. This was also filled with lot's of love. For example Vannessa's mom always made sure that she was home at her curfew or before, this is love because if her mom didn't love she would not care that she was home at 10:00 pm. Another example is that Vannessa had gone to meet Saton at the dark of the night to save Catty after Maggie had told not to. This was a great book and i can't wait to read the rest.

Book Description

Thora's no ordinary girl. She's got scales on her legs, purple feet, and a blowhole that squirts water from the top of her head. Thora's a half-mermaid. And as mermaid law commands, Thora must spend ten years at sea and ten years on land. In a houseboat called the Loki, Thora sails the seas with her mermaid mother, Halla, and guard ian, Mr. Walters. But following her tenth birthday, Thora heads to the seaside town of Grimli, where her father grew up.

In Grimli, fat-cat tycoon Frooty de Mare will stop at nothing to expand his Tooty Frooty Enterprises. With the help of new friends and her pet peacock, Thora has her work cut out thwarting Frooty's evil plans -- not to mention doing a bit of exploring into her own Grimli roots.

Gillian Johnson's fanciful tale captures the unflappable spirit of an exceptional young heroine who, despite being half-mermaid, somehow always manages to land on her feet.

5 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Fantasy Book.......2006-04-26

My daugher is [...] and we came upon this book at a yard sale. She read it right away- we couldn't tear her away from it. This is definately the best book about a mermaid for her age group (8-10?). (She is a pretty good reader, so some people may want to wait a bit since it is recommended for 9 year olds).

My daughter believes in mermaids and the magic of knowing or becoming one, so this was the perfect book for her. She loved the plot and giggled at the whimsical humor that runs throughout the story. She insisted on showing us all the cute and funny pictures. It is now her FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME (and she has read a lot of books). She shared her book with other girls in their bookclub- and they all loved it too. Our only problem was that we couldn't find it for a while. Now that we know it is here at Amazon, we will tell all our friends. I am looking forward to giving her the sequel for her birthday.

Thank you Gillian Johnson for writing such a wonderful book!
