Book Description
Today more than 200 million Christians around the world suffer imprisonment, abuse and even death because of their faith. Yet most Americans never hear their stories. In Their Blood Cries Out, Paul Marshall reveals the reality of this present-day persecution, revealing what we can do to help these brothers and sisters in Christ.

Chilling.......2006-03-30
This is not a book for the light hearted. It tells of the darkness of mankind. The exploitations of the Christian minority through stories of murder, rape, crucifixion, enslavent, beheadings, brutalizations, imprisonment. It is an incredibly well told story, although biased in its limited perspective of only persecution against Christians, it is nonetheless incredibly informative, and I would reccomend it to anyone. Not reading this book would be an injustice.
A clear and compassionate account of persecution today.......2003-01-10
"Their Blood Cries Out" (TBCO) is a masterfully written, meticulously researched, deeply compassionate and intellectually honest account of the persecution of millions of Christians around the world today. Marshall is careful to define a Christian as a person whose "Christian faith is a central aspect of their lives"(see Appendix D). Marshall has produced a much needed, up to date account of the suffering that is inflicted upon Christians today. TBCO surveys many countries and regions where persecution takes place, it examines the reasons and the causes of this persecution, and it tries to understand American (Western) apathy towards religious persecution. It is an honest, all round examination that informs, provokes and convicts.
TBCO is neatly divided into two independent sections: the first section is a global survey of countries where persecution takes place. The second part examines the reasons for the lack of interest in persecution and Marshall tries to come to an understanding of "why don¡¦t people care.¡¨
The first part of TBCO examines persecution in Islamic, communist, Hindu/Buddhist and Orthodox Christian countries. For each country covered, Marshall has carefully collated information and testimonials from easily verifiable sources. The book is well footnoted and his claims can be easily checked. This survey is an interesting investigation that is written with a deep sense of compassion and understanding. Marshall manages to avoid the pitfalls of gross generalizations and appropriately basis his work and conclusions on verifiable evidence. In writing this book, Marshall has traveled to about 20 of the countries he writes about. His willingness to examine the evidence first hand and to compile the stories of those who suffer and die for their faith should motivate unaware Christians to stand up for their persecuted brethren.
TBCO was written in 1997. Although the data presented in the book may be outdated, the overall analysis is still relevant. Many of the countries covered in the survey conducted in the first part of the book are still persecuting Christians and, in some cases, the persecution has become more intense. Since the WTC attacks Christians in Islamic countries have become increasingly vulnerable to attacks. Indonesia saw a drastic increase in communal violence in places like central Sulawesi. The Montagnards in Vietnam have, since December 2000 faced increasing persecution. Christians in North Korea still suffer immensely. And the list continues to grow. The reasons for the persecution remain the same, and the number of testimonies increases.
The second part of TBCO is a fascinating investigation into the apathetic stance that is taken by comfortable Christians and Western secularists. Many Christians, even when informed about their suffering brethren, would rather discuss other things. As Marshall himself says, "The subject of persecuted Christians is jarring to an obsession of personal peace."Elsewhere he comments that, "the vast body of Christians in the United States have abdicated their responsibility to deal with the persecution of Christians."Marshall notes that "the situation of Christians overseas is passed by silently."In my experience, many Christians don¡¦t care. Much of what Marshall has said in the second part of this book remains true today.
Marshall shows clearly, conclusively and concisely how modern evangelicals in the west are obsessed with finding inner peace and would rather not hear about persecuted Christians. Marshall also observes that the mainline Churches seek outer peace, they try to maintain the status quo. He documents many examples of when organizations like the National Council of Churches (NCC) have blatantly ignored persecution. This is still true today. Recently a leader in the United Methodist Church has denied that there is persecution in Vietnam and has insisted, at the behest of the Vietnamese government, that there is religious freedom in that country.
Secular organizations like Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International are also examined. Although Marshall rightly credits them for the brilliant work they do for human rights abuses, he also admonishes them for ignoring the plight of Christians. Marshall also admits that, "though instances of the persecution of Christians and other religious figures may be covered, we lose a recognition of the extent of religious persecution that exists in the world." But Marshall shows understanding when he points out that the extent of human suffering in the world today is so great that it is virtually impossible for those organizations to cover it all. He humbly confesses that he, in his survey, has not covered some countries, like Laos, where persecution is severe but "the events seems less important than other things included."He compassionately, and devastatingly knowingly implicates himself by asking, "How can one say that someone¡¦s death is not important?¡¨
Marshall does not leave us in despair asking what can be done. The last chapter examines things people can do to help suffering Christians around the world. The most important step, in my opinion, is to let others know. Do not be shy, or be unwilling to disturb someone¡¦s peace, be prepared to discuss persecution whenever the opportunity arises and challenge others to care.
TBCO has inspired me, convicted me and humbled me. It has forced me to face issues that are not comfortable to face; it has pushed me to action within my own community. TBCO has challenged me to care, to care for others that live far and near. Will you allow yourself to be challenged? Do you care?
Fascinating and eye-opening book!.......2002-10-31
A true view of the persecution of believers in present day. The time of the gentiles has nearly been fulfilled.
Required Reading for the Ethically Inclined.......2001-08-16
This book will bring home a couple salient facts:
1. Christians are persecuted on a level today that hasn't been seen since the persecutions of ancient Rome - and, in raw numbers, probably dwarfs even those.
2. Our major media outlets -- as well as a good number of our ecclesiastical and "human rights" organizations - have been blind to this persecution owing primarily to their left-of-center political proclivities. Conservative Christian organizations don't come out unscathed either - they have a tendency to focus on apocalyptic themes instead of the necessary work at hand of saving Christians.
An added benefit in reading this book is the wonderful insight you'll gain as Mr. Marshall explains the tectonic forces of culture and religion that are in play in each of the countries he covers - not to mention a prescient perspective on the whole idea of culture vs. religion. Which one takes precedence - culture or religion? To listen to the nightly news, you'd think culture. Read this book for an incisive answer.
You'll never look at the evening news the same - and you'll always remember to include a mention in your prayers for those for whom their blood cries out.
Required reading for anyone.......1999-07-16
We rarely hear in the news of religious persecution, let alone persecution of Christians. I am not Christian, but was still shocked, horrified and dismayed at all the injustice aimed at this population. Marshall covers briefly persecution of Muslims, Buddhists and others, and covers persecution by Christians as well - he limits his scope generally and intentionally to persecution of Christians in the 1990s, which sadly provides enough material for a full book. Marshall takes to task conservatives, liberals, secularists, evangelicals and anybody who has stood by silently in the face of these heinous acts. While there are a few inconsistencies in the book (such as his use of the terms liberal and conservative to refer alternatively to theology and politics, without distinugishing the usage) and the scope is limited, this book is a must read, since these problems are not covered in the mainstream media or the religious media (both of which Marshall takes to task for their failures). Marshall is right in wishing for freedom of religion and should be commended for pointing out places where it does not exist and where good people die simply due to their religious beliefs - you may not agree with what they think, but I don't see how you can disagree with their right to believe as they wish. Hopefully this book has encouraged and will encourage more action towards creating a more accepting and peaceful world.

A great intro to hematology- for the early elementary crowd!.......2007-06-02
As a college physiology professor and parent of two young children, I am very impressed with this book. It makes advanced physiological concepts readily accessible even to very young children. It covers some of the same concepts that I teach my college freshmen- platelet plugs, fibrin clot formation and retraction, the role of red blood cells in carrying oxygen, the role of white blood cells in fighting infection. I suspect that even some adults might learn something useful and interesting from this book. It never would have occurred to me to teach these difficult concepts to early elementary age children, but this book does a terrific job with it.
A natural intro to this topic is anytime a child falls and gets even a minor cut. I first read this book to my 5-year-old when he fell and injured his mouth and knee. It was so empowering for him to understand what was actually going on- why his cuts eventually stopped bleeding, how they turned into scabs, etc.
Highly recommended!

I bought this book for my second grade nephew and I think that it is very educational and informative. It states interesting facts about blood, and how important it is to the body. I think that the illustrations are colorful and cute. I love these Read and Find Out Science books for second and third graders. Appropriate for them at a level where they could understand about science. Contains lots of vital information.

Is your doctor making you sick?
If you have been told that you have high blood pressure, low thyroid or diabetes, you may be a victim of one of the most common medical scams of our time. Are these conditions really diseases, or could they be clever methods for medicine to drum up business?
Internationally acclaimed medical anthropologists Sydney Ross Singer and Soma Grismaijer are known for their discoveries of the lifestyle causes of disease. Their research breakthroughs include linking breast cancer with bras, migraines with sleep position, and more. Now, they are exposing one of the most insidious and destructive causes of disease -- doctors!
As businesspeople who profit from sickness, doctors have a conflict of interest that can be, and frequently is, deadly. And their treatments, which increasingly consist of lifetime medication addiction, may be for conditions that aren't really diseases after all.
It's time to open our eyes to what medicine and doctors are doing to us. It's time for the MEDICAL REVOLUTION!

The Birth of the Irgun Zvai Leumi: The Jewish Resistance Movement
ASIN: 1857531361 |
Book Description
On the first day of February 1944 an organisation of Palestinian Jews issued a proclamation to the Jewish Nation. It called for the immediate transfer of power in the land of Israel to a provisional Jewish government. The Irgun Zvai Leumi (National Military Organisation) then launched an intensive guerilla campaign against the British on a scale never before conducted by a Jewish organisation in modern times.
Led by Menachem Begin, a future Prime Minister of Israel, the Irgun blew up buildings, sabotaged roads, raided military bases, robbed banks and attacked strategic targeta at home and abroad.
Was this campaign a major factor in the ending of the British mandate in Palestine and the founding of the Jewish nation? How did the intensive propaganda campaign win support in the Unites States? In Blood in Zion Saul Zadka examines the efforts made by the British Government to combat insurgency and the motives and the actions of the Irgun. It seeks to bridge the gap between distorted fact and historical truth and to give a clear impression of the Irgun's campaign of violence and the British government's attempts to thwart it until the mandate ended in 1948.

The book is written in easy to understand format, as well as entertaining. It's a read you won't want to put down till your finished. From the humble beginnings of a inner city youth, misguided and seemingly not cared for, to a man full of pride, a hardened prison gang member, and assassin you get the feel that although this man has made choices through out his ife contrary to a moral way of living, God has had a watchful eye on him. All that crime, and evil hearted ways depicted in the pages of this book they are in a sense turned around and used for God's glory as testimony of the life changing power of Jesus Christ as Mr. Blajos' saivour. "Be for real" is motto Art has assigned himself to both in the ways of the world and as a humble man of God with a servants heart.

"Blood In" Serviceable But Not Impressive.......2007-07-23
While I am not a RPG'er, I adored the lore of the Old World of Darkness after having been introduced to it by the video game "Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines". The history of the world having been profoundly affected and influenced by the ambitions of clashing sects of vampires just seemed to be an extraordinary creative achievement. Above all, I loved the meta-plot of the impending rise of the Antediluvians and the return of Caine to devour their vampiric Childer. It was thus with a bittersweet sentimentality that I read "Gehenna: The Final Night", the last work in that series.
So, what of "Vampire: The Requiem", White Wolf's reboot of the series? I understand that it substantially cleans up what was an awfully cluttered World of Darkness. On the basis of my love of the Masquerade, I decided to try the three Requiem novels that have ben produced thus far. I have heard mixed reviews of the role-play gaming of Requiem, but that did not concern me. My interest is in how this novel fared as a story.
The story concerns one Duce Carter, the head of the Carthian movement in modern-day Chicago. They are a reform organization, with their left wing being proponents of violent revolution. (Carter is associated with the reform group.) They seek to reform and/or overthrow the regime of Prince Maxwell, head of the ruling Invictus sect, and sovereign over all the Chicagoan vampires. The plot concerns two separate conflicts in which Carter becomes involved - first, he has to face a challenge within the Carthian movement by the supporters of violent revolution. Second, he is early in the book subject to a drive-by shooting, seemingly perpetrated by members of the street gang he was in when he was alive. Carter spends the book desparately trying to survive these two seemingly insuperable challenges. He is aided by his friend and former lover Persephone Moore, itinerant daughter of Prince Maxwell. Moore's loyalties remain flexible, however.
I was not gripped by the book. Perhaps it was my experience of the glories of the Vampire: The Masquerade setting, but the petty rivalries of the Vampires of Chicago, while competently done, was not gripping. Sadly, Requiem seems to lack the epic qualities of the previous series. At the end of the day, who cares if the Carthians manage to overthrow Maxwell? In the Masquerade, such conflicts could decide the fate of the world. Mysterious vampire elders manipulated their childer in a battle for the world which inevitably ends in that world's apocalypse. In Requiem, it just seems to be a routine circumstance of no wider significance.
Would I recommend it? It has the advantage of being darker and grittier than most of the novels cluttering the fantasy/sci-fi shelf of your local bookstore. The characters correspondingly seem 'realer'. However, it is a pot-boiler, pure and simple. Don't go to "Blood In" looking for the significance or meaning that "Vampire: the Masquerade" was so good at providing.
SECOND NOVEL IN VAMPIRE:REQUIEM SERIES.......2007-03-18
BLOOD IN, BLOOD OUT is the second of three novels in a series on the Chicago setting of Vampire: the Requiem. It is game fiction, so the author has to work in game aspects into the novel in addition to telling a good story. While the first and third novels were written by Greg Stolze, BLOOD IN, BLOOD OUT was written by a different author, Lucien Soulban, which has led many to conclude that this second novel is merely an interruption in the narrative flow. My observation is that this is simply not the case.
To begin with, BLOOD IN, BLOOD OUT is a compelling read. It's certainly well-written (and well-edited, which isn't the case for all White Wolf products...), well-paced, with interesting characters and a dynamic plot. I felt that the strength of A HUNGER LIKE FIRE was Stolze's ability to tie multiple narratives together, while BLOOD IN, BLOOD OUT took one narrative and spun everything else around it. The layers of political intrige were complex but believable. I thought it particularly effective of Soulban to develop a mostly unexplored part of the Chicago setting - the Carthians. It avoids becoming a rehash of the first novel while allowing a lot of latitude in character development (characters that Greg Stolze had already introduced, Like Prince Maxwell, Solomon Birch, and Persephone Moore, played important roles but were treated carefully to maintain contintuity).
When I first approached BLOOD IN, BLOOD OUT, I was warned that it was irrelevant to the overall setting development and that I needn't read it. By the time I finished it, I would recommend it to anyone interested in the World of Darkness setting.
Good cuz it's Vampire, Bad for everything else.......2007-01-10
This one is a real let down after "Hunger like Fire." If you're confident in your ability to trudge through a novel for the sake of minimal continuity, then go for it. If you'd rather just skip this one and move on to "Marriage of Virtue and Visciousness," then you really won't miss much story. I'm not familiar with Lucien Soulban's other work, but I hope White Wolf keeps him away from their projects for a bit.
Don't despair though, the 3rd novel in the series redeems it, though I still enjoyed the first one a little bit more.
I enjoyed it........2006-06-07
I actually enjoyed this book for the same reason I enjoy playing in the Vampire role playing game. There was action, intrigue, romance, everything. The book was a quick read, with several chapters and sections ending with questions.
Before actually playing a game of Vampire, I thought it would be a good idea to read the books so that I could get a feel for the different clans and covenants of Kindred and how they interact with each other and with mortals. This book was a nice sample of how the Invictus and Lancea Sanctum (Mostly the Invictus, however) and the Carthians work. I can't wait until further installments when we get to read about the Circle and the Dragons, which are among my favorites.
To a certain point I do agree that the book can seem a bit 'stereotypical gansta' But as a black female, I'm not offended at all. There are several other Kindred of color in the the World of Darkness and Duce, the main character, and the gangs and the freedom fighters are only a small representative of them. For example, take Prince Maxwell. He doesn't fit the 'traditional gansta' stereotype at all. I'd also like to note that this book is not "Vampire's in the Hood', which is seems most reviewers (not necessarily on this site) would like to call it. The story is told from a point of view of a character most readers may not be used to.
All in all, this book was a quick read for anyone who enjoys the the line of RPGs under the World of Darkness and I would definitely recommended to it to everyone.
Just boring.......2006-03-03
After reading the first of the new Requiem novels (A Hunger Like Fire), I couldn't wait to continue reading the series. Lucien Soulban quickly killed that desire. The characters seem so flat and boring that I just couldn't force myself to finish the book. If you liked the first Requiem Novel, you might as well skip this one and move on to the next.
