Cat Lovers Story Book.......2007-09-29
If you have cats or know anything about cats, you will identify with
the charming and touching cat short stories in this book. People of
any age will enjoy, but cat owners will especially appreciate it and
recognize some of the behaviors, antics and ability of cats to touch
the lives of their owners in a wonderful way.
Chicken soup for the cat lovers soul.......2007-08-23
I dearly love this book, a great read for any cat lover or animal lover in general. This book lifts my spirts and makes me feel warm and fuzzy after reading it improves my mood for the day. Highly recommeded.
The Magic of the Chicken Soup For the Soul Series.......2007-07-17
I've read quite a number of Jack Canfield's Chicken Soup For the Soul series, so you can imagine my delight when I found out that there was a book dedicated to us feline fans...I've had cats all my life, so many of the stories contained in this book I can identify with. So many of the stories in this book are bittersweet, and any cat lover will see themselves in these pages...Also, I highly recommend having a box of tissues handy while reading this book.
Great book for cat lovers!.......2007-07-05
Never read a chicken soup book but I heard how great they were. I loved this book! If you are a cat lover, you should definitely get this book for yourself or as a gift for someone else.
A Must for Cat Lovers.......2007-03-26
I received this book from my vet after I had to put my cat to sleep because of cancer. At first I couldn't read the book because I cried after reading each story. After a few weeks I decided to try again and started reading. I still cried, but this book made me realize just how much love and companionship is offered by our four-legged friends, and how much I really appreciated the time I had with my cat. This is must for all cat lover's.

Book Description
Sam Bullit is running for Mayor of New York City on an anti-Spider-Man campaign, and Daily Bugle Editor-in-Chief J. Jonah Jameson is backing him 100%. But who is pulling Bullit's strings? None other than the Kingpin of Crime!
Customer Reviews:
Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-04
Spider-Man gets fired for disagreeing with JJJ when he backs the campaign of a DA who is a Kingpin shill.
Spidery and the Kingping [...] heads several times, and he meets the Black Cat, daughter of a guy Kingpin has shafted, as she steals something he was going to use to try and help his sick wife.
Elektra gets in on the fun as the Kingpin hires her to get rid of the Cat.
The Enforcers show they are losers yet again.
the black cat is smoking hot..........2007-02-02
ultimate spider-man by bendis and bagley is one of the best series out there. not as much action and non-stop bad guy fighting, but a good mix of that and a lot of peter parker being a teenager with problems (girls, bullies, being grounded, etc.) along with his spidey life.
the series is great great great. only a few minor things that could be better:
1. i don't like how nick fury comes in and tells spider-man he's going to work his whole life for him and shield. the idea of peter being...trapped in a web? haha...well it isn't too cool. superheroes need to fight the good fight because they want to, not because shield will go and take away their superpowers (as fury has threatened) if they don't comply. plus the issues where the ultimates come in aren't that great, the whole series gets hijacked by them and not a lot of spidey. imo, the ultimates are easily the worst part of the ultimate universe. beyond ultimate spider-man and the ultimate fantastic four the ultimate universe isn't too great.
2. bendis needs to cut down on the tuchas talk. seriously if parker grew up in nyc today he'd more likely speak spanglish than yanglish.
3. geldoff.
The black cat is hot.......2006-01-01
I really enjoyed this vol. but not being an elektra fan I wish spidey would have dished more out on her and the kingpin appeared just a bit to much of a an emotional blob at the end.
Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 8: Cats & Kings.......2004-10-04
This eighth TPB collects another complete story arc and features Spidey meeting up with the Ultimate version of the Black Cat as well as Elektra. While I didn't really care for the look of the Black Cat's costume and felt this storyline wasn't quite as good as most of the previous ones, I still thought it was good enough for four stars and would consider it a solid storyline and a recommended read. There are several interesting things that take place in the pages, including the frustration of Peter as he learns of the Kingpin's "unfair" release from custody, the Black Cat's flirtation with Peter (whose mind is already reeling from emotions stirred up by Mary Jane, and Peter's continuing problems at high school. The book ends with an uncertain fatality, but I won't spoil it for you by giving it away. Go ahead and pick it up for yourself to find out the whole story.
lovely work and a lot of fun.......2004-06-16
This volume collects the Ultimate Spider-Man comics #47-53. The Kingpin is free, despite that fact that he was caught on tape murdering someone, J. Jonah Jameson is backing a politician who's running on an anti-Spider-Man platform, Peter Parker is attracted to a cat burglar called the Black Cat (in spite of the fact that he's already got a girlfriend), and Elektra's out to kill Spider-Man. That's a lot of things for only seven issues, but it's all handled very clearly. Elektra isn't really as big a part of the story as the cover would have you believe, but the Black Cat's around a lot. Peter's a teenager in this volume (and, I suspect, in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics as a whole, but I've never read any of the others, so I don't know for sure), so he's got to deal with the usual: school, the fact that his girlfriend's parents hate him, and a bit of a crush. The artwork and coloring are both gorgeous, and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Cardiology is a rapidly growing specialty in veterinary medicine. SMALL ANIMAL CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE provides a comprehensive, illustrated explanation of anatomy, physiology, assessment, diagnosis and management of small animal cardiovascular health. An overview of pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy aids practitioners in identifying clinical abnormalities, determining the significance of the problem, determining treatment, and understanding the unresponsive patient. This book is an excellent resource for small animal veterinarians who need to know about the latest techniques in treating congenital and acquired cardiovascular problems.
Customer Reviews:
Small Animal CArdiovascular Medicine.......2007-01-10
Excellent book, friendly and deep and concise on every topic dealt with.
Just Excelent.......2004-12-15
This is an excelent textbook of canine and feline cardiology of highest interest for any veterinary clinician (specialist and not) and any student who wants to learn before going to the real world of disease. It is in my opinion the cardiology textbook that is closest to the clinician and to the reality of the needs and manegement of the cardiovascular patient, with the most rigourous scientific literature.
From the masters..........2003-02-17
While taking my cardiology class during my second year of vet school, this book came in very handy. Although my syllabus (which was at least the size of this book) provided the same information, Small Animal Cardiovascular Medicine provided clearer explanations and illustrations that I could read over and over again.
It filled in many of the gaps I had in my understanding of topics, and, after taking a VIN class with Dr. Kittleson, I can honestly say that this is one of the most concise references you can have. He is a very receptive teacher, and it is really reflected in this text. Highly recommended as THE reference for cardiology!
Small Animal Cardiovascular Medicine.......1999-12-14
The book was a welcome addition to veterinary cardiology, filling a gap of over 12 years since the previous major publication. The book is very logically organized, and the pathophysiology is well addressed, and easy to understand at all levels from student to specialist.
The only detractor is the quality of the publication (the publishers skimped on the book, to the disappointment of the authors) - the paper is cheap and the binding has come apart on 2 copies (I had it replaced and re-bound).
great cardiology book.......1999-12-08
This is one excellent textbook. Concepts are well developed in the beginning chapters of the book. As the book progresses, and specific disease processes are addressed, conceptual application of previous topics is well integrated with additional information regarding everything from physical examination findings to treatment modalities. The end result is an excellent textbook of small animal cardiovascular medicine.

Customer Reviews:
wonderful stories.......2007-06-23
My 10 year-old son tried reading it,and thought the stories were too sad, but I adore this book. Very sweet, humbling stories about good people and good animals.
The Healing Kind of Savior, Cat-like........2006-06-11
In this volume, Mr. Canfield and crew have compiled a smorgasboard selection of short stories about pets who fortify us and make life bearable. Especially poignant to me was "the medicine cat" as I, too, had one named Tosca. She gave up the ghost a few months ago at the age of eighteen years, as I had no way to get to her when she needed support of the kind she gave to me several years ago. They recognize the special love and devotion of animals to bless our hearts and homes.
"Cat lovers will tell you that felines are 'poetry in motion,' living sculptures at rest, and that the warm weight of a purring cat...is a surefire cure for all that ails you."
It is the physical acts of love to bring the gift of life as expressed in "The Healing Touch." I cried as I read "The Language of the Heart" about an unusual rabbit and his healing the hurt of a little girl who'd turned inward and no longer could talk. Something had died in that child which this loving rabbit cured. His innocence and trust had rekindled the same qualities in the child. The loving presence of an animal can heal where words have no effect. Alas, Roger Rabbit bit the tip off my little finger one day, which led me to the ER for a Saran-wrap bandage (to stop the bleeding -- a bandaid wouldn't work) and a tetanus shot. Needless to say, I found him another home.
"A small gesture -- the insistent tap of a cat's paw" about Jack, an adopted stray kitten (like Dante in Troy, Alabama), who grew into Ellen's savior. He woke her from a daydream of tragedy; Star woke me up with that same gesture over and over so that I would not strangle from Acid Reflux. Pets do love and care for their owners. This volume is one I will treasure for years to come. It is full of memories about pet owners' animals, not just cats and dogs.
Awesome.......2006-03-10
I really enjoyed this book. The main reason I liked it is because it is all about cats and dogs, and I am a hardcore animal lover. Another reason I liked it is because the stories are not made up in someone's mind. These stories are real stories that real people lived through. The last reason I liked this book so much is because you don't have to read it like an ordinary book. You can read it like I did and just jump around to stories that sound good to you, instead of reading the book cover to cover.

Even if you aren't a big reader of the "Chicken Soup" series, you will still like this book. The stories are great and you can just pick the book up anytime and pretty much read a section at random. Fun to keep on the coffee table, or as a gift book for animal lovers.

Book Description
As if obedience school wasn't bad enough, Ike now finds himself in jail--wrongly accused (of course!) of terrorizing the Hibbins' cats & stealing their cat treats. Once again, he pleads his case to Mrs LaRue, who's vacationing in France, but to no avail. When a string of canary burglaries stalls the Snort City Police force's investigation--and reveals their crime-solving ineptitude--Ike flees custody and takes matters into his own paws. Expect more mad-cap comedy in Ike's daring escapades (real and imagined), as well as ingenious split-screen visuals from the incomparable Mark Teague.
Customer Reviews:
A Book Review From a Spiritridge Third Grader.......2007-03-27
I read this jail breaking book called Detective LaRue. Two cats ran away from their home and a dog named Ike gets blamed. There is a jumbo sized dilemma but I can't tell you. The police are working on another case so Ike takes it into his own hand, I mean paw. You have to read the rest to find out what happens.
I like this book because Ike dreams funny things like that he is in jail when he was with a nice police.
I recommend this book to anyone because it is funny and good.
Detective LaRue: Letters from the Investigation =Excellent.......2005-01-20
Detective LaRue should have won the Caldecott award. It had a excellent storyline and perfect illustrations to match the mood. Why it lost to Kittens First Full Moon is quite a mystery to me. I would recommend it for ages 10-12.
A fun sequel.......2004-09-28
In Dear Mrs. LaRue: Letters from Obedience School, 2002, Ike the dog wrote plaintive letters describing his life "behind bars." He hopes his owner, Mrs. LaRue, will come to rescue him from obedience school. The wonderful humor came from the clever story and illustrations. The reader can compare colorful reality with Ike's black and white point of view.
In his new book Ike is writing letters to Mrs. LaRue again while she is on vacation in Europe. This time he is a suspect in the disappearance of the Hibbins cats. Feeling completely misjudged, Ike mails his owner pleas and updates from the police station where he has been taken into custody. Forced to flee and on the lam, he attempts to solve the mystery of the cats' disappearance as well as a series of canary burglaries. Once again the detailed illustrations and articles from the Snort City Register/Gazette hold the key to the story and the laughs. This book is a very entertaining sequel. This is a must-read for fans of Ike!

Dexter is a little dog. He's so little that the other dogs forget to invite him to play, and Cleevis the tomcat bullies him. But little Dexter has dreams –– big dreams. He wants to be a superhero. So Dexter starts a superhero training program. And suddenly, even Cleevis needs his help!
In Superdog, husband–and–wife team Mark and Caralyn Buehner have created a timeless story about a true superhero. Dexter has determination, spirit, and heart as he proves, above all, that no matter how little you are, you can still do very big things.

DEX and SUPERDOG (The Heart of a Hero).......2007-07-13
DEX and SUPERDOG (The Heart of a Hero) are the SAME BOOK do not get fooled into buying both. What a RIP OFF!
A Nice Alternative.......2007-06-27
My son has come home from preschool interested in superheroes, but I think he's too young for Spiderman, and other violent, heavily marketed characters. So I was very happy to find this book - it's clever and sweet (Dex uses his superpowers to help other animals - organizing a neighborhood cleanup, for instance, and in the end helping the cat who's been picking on him). My son finds it very funny. And the illustrations by Mark Buehner are, as always, gorgeous.
Illustrations Are Fantastic!.......2006-11-11
I actually found a bday card with some of the images from this book first and fell in love with Mark Buehner's art style. The art is so amazing. While the story was good, I wouldn't say it's great. Just wanted it to live up to the caliber of the images. That said, it will be a favorite of mine because our little 6 1/2lbs dachshund could have been in this book.
A nice book.......2006-11-04
Engaging and witty drawings. A well written story, with lots of fun and action. This is a top-notch book, and my kindergartener really enjoys it. But why is there a witch flying across the sky?
Superdog, super book.......2006-10-29
We love this book. It demonstrates that to be super takes hard work, but pays off and that being super isn't just about doing "big" things, but little things can be just as super. The ending shows that working together is a win/win for everyone. This book is great for 4-5 year-olds, but my 7-year old loves it as well.

Book Description
Mark Billingham's Sleepyhead was called "an exceptional debut" by George Pelecanos, lauded for its "strong ... display of macabre creativity" by the New York Times, and singled out by USA Today as featuring "some of the creepiest serial killers to be found between the pages of a book." Now Billingham returns with Scaredy Cat.
It was a calculated, vicious murder. The killer selected his victim at Euston station, followed her home on the tube, and then strangled her to death in front of her child. At the same time the dead woman is found, a second body is discovered at the back of King's Cross station -- killed in identical fashion. It is a grisly coincidence that eerily echoes the murders of two other women, both stabbed to death months before on the same day.
Introduced in Sleepyhead, Detective Inspector Tom Thorne sees the link and comes to the horrifying conclusion that it is not one serial killer the police are up against: it is two of them. Now each time a body is found, Thorne must live with the knowledge that somewhere out there is a second victim, waiting to be discovered. But while the methods might be the same, the killers are very different -- one submissive and terrified, the other ruthless and in control. To stop them both, Thorne must catch a man whose need to manipulate is as great as his need to kill; a man who will threaten those closest to Thorne himself; a man who will show him that the ability to inspire terror is the deadliest weapon of all.
Customer Reviews:
Gripping.......2007-07-31
My first Billingham thriller and I was impressed. It's fast paced and keeps you guessing right up until the last chapters.
A fascinating and creepy character study of childhood relationships and I found the childhood experiences described very believable as to how a killer can be created.
I'll definitely look out for more thrillers by this author.
Not scary, but worth buying.......2007-06-01
Mark Billingham is a very good writer, of that there can be little doubt. I have to admit, however, that Scaredy Cat proved ultimately disappointing. The story line concerns a pair of serial killers whose links go back to their schooldays - but they are not an equal pair. One leads, the other follows. Meanwhile we have Billingham's erstwhile hero DI Tom Thorne, who often comes across as burned out and who occasionally questions his commitment to his career as a detective, such are the demands it brings. I read Lazy Bones some time ago, and found that to be a more 'scary' book than this, despite the references to what the badder of the two baddies plans to do in the slightly hyped-up finale in Scaredy Cat. This book is well written in its detail, and indeed is worth buying, but whereas I was expecting to give it 5 stars when I had finished 90% of the story, the slightly anti-climactic ending led me to trim that rating by one. I really was expecting a shocking ending, but it didn't happen for me. I did admire the better character development in this novel (compared to Lazy Bones) and ended up with a much better understanding of what's going on in Thorne's head - something that Billingham failed to do in the other story. In particular I felt I learned something about life as a detective, both the professional and private, and I reckon that the author has done very thorough research in this field in order to convey the stresses and emotions of his characters so well. As for what motivates his villains to do what they do, this was rather less well explained, even though he devoted considerable time in attempting to do so. I guess it's easier to typecast detectives as opposed to serial killers, but it's a shame because it would be a great read if Billingham had an equal knowledge of the mindsets of both the goodies AND the baddies.

Very readable.......2006-02-05
Mark Billingham is a young writer on the way up. For someone who is used to the US writers and the way they write, I find that Billingham adds the psychological element to his books far more than most US writers.
This book features Tom Thorne (the regular lead character in Billingham's works) and as usual, Thorne is chasing a killer and battling his own personal demons.
The killers in this book are extra nasty and make sure to read the first chapter as the author is like Mo Hayder, has the ability to really grab you in the first few pages. No slow building of drama with this guy.
Thorne in Your Side.......2005-12-03
Mark Billingham is a former actor and stand-up comedian whose first crime novel - "Sleepyhead" - was published in 2001. "Scaredy Cat" is his second novel and, like his first, also features DI Tom Thorne as its central character. It won the 2003 Sherlock Award, and was also nominated for the CWA Golden Dagger Award. In 2005, he won the Theakston's Old Peculiar Crime Novel of the Year Award for "Lazy Bones".

Overall, I enjoyed this book quite a bit - it was very easily read and Thorne reminded me a little of Harry Bosch, Michael Connelly's LAPD investigator. However, the mood in "Scaredy Cat" seems a little lighter than in anything I've read by Connelly. I would possibly suggest reading Billingham's books in order - there were a few nods to the events of "Sleepyhead", the first book to feature Thorne. While I haven't read it just yet - though I do plan to - I have the impression that Billingham gave away a little more about that book than I would've liked. Recommended all the same.
A Top Notch Thriller.......2005-08-06
An interesting twist from a mystery. From the beginning, you know "who done it", but you have no idea who that person has become. The final unveiling came as a surprise, and I'm usually able to figure out such "twists" before they are revealed (although he was on my list of suspects).
The lead character, DI Tom Thorne, will remind readers of Rebus (Ian Rankin) and Banks (Peter Robinson), but there are enough differences to set him apart and make him interesting. All in all, a great read. I look forward to Billingham's follow-ups.

Book Description
Charlie, a fuzzy gray cat, walked out of the woods one evening and into Elizabeth's and Sarah's hearts. Now he sleeps on their beds, lets them dress him up in doll clothes, and laps up warm milk on chilly nights. But where does Charlie go during the day?
It's not until a storm keeps Charlie away one night that the two sisters discover his other, daytime, home. But maybe that's not such a bad thing. Because, just like Elizabeth and Sarah, Charlie has two houses, two beds, and two families who love him very, very much!

Charlie Anderson.......2007-09-22
This book was recommended to me by a teacher friend. I like this story to teach predictions while teaching comprehension strategies.
Charlie Anderson.......2006-12-14
Although the story should be a great read for children having difficulties with split families. The page where Elizabeth ask "Who do you love the best," could plant in a childs mind that one must make a choice as to which parent do you love the best, or even cause the child to wonder if he/she is loved the "best". The book would have been excellent had it not been for this one page. I suggest it be re-written.
Children of Divorce learn there are others like them.......2006-09-09
Having to trudge back and forth between parents into different worlds can be very upsetting to a child of a divorce. The transition is emotionally charged and sometimes bringing the child to depression - especially if the child cannot identify their life with any other children. The mix of personalities and a happy life that Charlie Anderson leads transitioning between two families is something any young child can identify with and derive comfort from. I know my child did.
no analysis, just cute.......2006-03-16
I have not analyzed this book that deeply. I heard about this cute book and just happen to have a cat named Charlie that we suspected also lived "somewhere else" sometimes. I put a piece a tape on him that read "my name is Charlie and I belong to ....." It seems to have worked! He has returned full-time. Kind of funny.
Good Book For Children of Divorce .......2005-09-23
This book helps its' readers understand that divorce does not mean that there cannot be happiness. Charlie, the cat, has two homes and in each one he receives love and all of his needs are met. The book appears to be designed to help the child reader adjust to divorce and the new accomodations of the parents. The book is a very nice story that sends its message without using the negative connotations that usually come with divorce.
