Jerry Baker's Green Grass Magic is a wonderful book for people who want to know more about growing grass (the turf kind) but, don't want to be to technical. He does get into the technical aspects of Grass but those sections are delivered simply and in small chuncks with a dose of humor. What I like about Mr. Baker is that reading his books is a bit like talking with your grandfather, he interjects tidbits about how life was and wisdom from his Grandma Putt, in with his advice for your lawn. Mr. Baker has finally gotten better in orginazing his books. You can quickly find the information that you want. His chapter headings give you an idea about that that chapter is about which makes it easier to find a given subject and the book is indexed. He has put all of the recipies that crop up in the book for his various tonics and such in the back of the book as well as through out the book. It makes it a lot easier to look up what is in a given tonic. I like the tonics that he gives though, the neighbors raise eyebrows when they find that I am buying Beer for my lawn, but, if you do what he tells you to do then you will have a more beautiful lawn.

The tips and tonics for yard care alone make this book worth the price. I have spent numerous $$ on trying to get my yard in tip top shape, with chemicals and expensive items. Jerry has simple, grocery store items, that can help make a sad yard happy!

Book Description

"We are at Shine, on the first day, " says Pattie, when, as the youngest member of the group, she is given the honor of naming the new settlement. Refugees from the dying planet Earth, they, along with other ships, have been sent into space in the hope that some of them will survive to continue the human race. But the success of Shine remains doubtful as crops fail and provisions brought from Earth dwindle. Even the excitement surrounding the hatching of the giant moth people from the "boulders" in Boulder Valley doesn't make the group forget the hopelessness of the situation. It isn't until Pattie and her sister Sarah make an important discovery that survival becomes a certainty.

5 out of 5 stars Me, a kid, loves this book!.......2007-05-05

This is my definate favorite book ever! The plot is great. I love reading thing about the future because It all seem so cool, except for the part where the earth dies. But the space ship that lasted 4 years! Awsome! Well, my point is, it is a great book with many different exciting and good writing. I think it is a real page turner. And I love it. And I am almost over the age of reading this book, but I still read it anyways.

5 out of 5 stars An ending you will never forget.......2007-03-31

This has got to be one of my favorite children's books, and I've read thousands. Highly original. Beautifully woven story. The ending is exquisite, one of the best you will ever read. I suggest you read this aloud as a family.

5 out of 5 stars One of the things that got me started.......2007-02-08

I read this book as a child, 15 to 20 years ago. I don't remember exactly how old I was. I remembered it vividly all those years, though. The imagery stuck with me, and the emotions of the story. It was one of the books that got me started at an early age on science fiction. The main character faces trials and strangeness, and ends up giving hope to her entire community, born from her fearlessness and determination. This is one of those stories that haunted me, and eventually I'll have to get a copy of my own, since I only had it for a week from the public library.

1 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE WORST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ!!! DO NOT READ IT!!!.......2005-11-26

When I was in 5th grade we had to read THE GREEN BOOK with out class. It is one of the worst books that I have ever read! This unrealistic, rediculus, and pointless story is a waste of time. I am sorry that I wasted my time reading it...don't waste yours!

5 out of 5 stars A Five Star Book.......2005-06-14

I think The Green Book is a great book for kids to read. This book tells about people who have to go to another planet to survive because the earth is dying. This book is great. One reason why it is great is because whenever the planet Shine is in danger, the kids come to the rescue! The kids find food, animals, and a way to survive. I think every kid should read this book. Written for serious practitioners, Marian Green's Witch Alone: Thirteen Moons to Master Natural Magic guides those who wish to learn the "old religion" without the aid of a coven. Densely written in a serious tone, Witch Alone is nonetheless an inspiring and poetic read. Exercises at the end of each chapter are designed to take a full 28 nights to accomplish, and are designed to progressively lead one down the path to success. Worshippers of the goddess and those interested in exploring the deeper aspects of their own souls will find this tome deeply informative, but for the neo-pagan committed to learning solitary witchcraft, Witch Alone is a must-read. --P. Invaluable to the newcomer to paganism.--Mystical Realms

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Good Material for Paganism 101 Instructors.......2006-11-30

Maron Green is a highly respected author and workshop facilitator. I've never met her but I have a great deal of respect for her reputation. Overall, I think it's a pleasant read, despite my disagreement with some of the material in the book.

Even so, this would NOT be the book I recommend to newcomers to Paganism or Wicca.

The reason is that while much of what is in the book is very good, some of it may be confusing for newcomers. It's not that the material is advanced, it's more that many of the authors stated opinions in the book are not opinions shared by all Pagans and Wiccans. This is not to say they are not popular opinions, but I think it's optimal if the newcomer is aware of the diversity of thought within the Pagan religions.

Here is random example, on page 61: "Real witches do not, and never have, called themselves 'witches'; that is a term applied by others." Someone learning about Paganism might read this as gospel, I personally have known several people who proudly refer to themselves as witches, and would take offense if anyone tried to say they really weren't. As a Pagan my experience is not uncommon. There are many similar examples throughout the book.

I heartily recommend this book for a discussion group. Experienced Pagans might enjoy discussing the author's opinions, whether they agree or disagree. An interesting topic of discussion might be that the book seems to reveal some differences between the English Pagan experience and the experience of those of us who live in the U.S.

I also would highly recommend it for people who wish to teach a Paganism 101 class. An experienced teacher would be able to find and make good use of the many gems within this book, particularly the exercises.

5 out of 5 stars Timeless Truths.......2006-10-09

'A Witch Alone' is one of the first few witchy books I ever bought,
and I often refer to this book, time and time again, for the wisdom
contained within it. One Reviewer complained that this book was "too poetic"
or contained too many references to "the olden days", in which the Reviewer
felt he/she be sitting around the campfire (listening to tall tales?)
To me, it is exactly 'the old days', the old tales, which teach us
how to be! "How to be" for today, and "how to be" for tomorrow.

2 out of 5 stars Overly General.......2006-02-05

I bought this book because I liked the idea of a moon based cycle. Though coven life is structured around the moon, most of the literature out there today is based on the Sabbats and the sun cycle. As a high priestess, I was looking forward to reading a more lunar perspective. But Witch Alone is not really based on a lunar cycle. It is simply thirteen lessons. They don't really connect to the cycles of the moon, or the wheel of the year for that matter. And there are much more basic than I realized reading the description. Basicly, it is a 13 lesson wicca 101 book, and not a great one at that. The exercises are quite basic. It is of course good to ponder what your conception of what the goddess is, or what the sun cycle means to you. But these are things that most wiccans do anyway. There weren't any ideas presented that I hadn't done before.

4 out of 5 stars A good alternative beginners book........2005-11-29

If you want to read about Wicca it's best to read books by original wiccans such as Doreen Valiente, The Farrars and Vivanne Crowley-(who does excellent beginner books). This book by Marian Green is written more about Witchcraft and it won't really tell you about the original religion of Wicca that was created by Gerald Gardner in 1950, if that's what your looking for.

However this is a wonderful book which really brings a sense of the wild natural world into the practice of witchcraft which no other author has ever really captured. Which is what witchcraft is all about really. It is effectively an accessable precusor to books on English Traditional witchcraft, by authors such as Evan John Jones, Nigel Jackson and Robert Cochrane. Which is based on, (supposedly) pre-Gardnerian witchcraft which tends to be stongly nature based and skewed more towards worship of the horned god.

Infact I would say for Americans M.G books- would be the perfect beginners books for those interested in the 1734 tradition (the Roebuck tradition in America.) Those living in a historical village in England or Europe will get more out of this than Americans, due to the proximity of old and sacred sites. But if you are thirsty for a refreshingly non-fluffy informative beginners book, that doesn't go on about chakras, unicorns and crystals this could be just the tonic.

1 out of 5 stars Painful to Read.......2005-01-20

I purchased this book along with Marion's "Natural Witchcraft" and was so disappointed in both. I felt as if I could have written it myself (after just reading about 4 101-type books). Marion writes in a such a flowery and general manner. Good for poetry, but not very informative. Too many, "In the days of old" comments. It's like your sitting by the campfire listening to tall tales. I also found it difficult as most of the text reads like "You should do this or that". I'd pass.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Series.......2007-03-20

My daughter loves this series of books - the biggest problem we have is that she won't stop after one chapter. She's 5, so we do most of the reading, she'll read a paragraph or two, but we do that's it for now. It won't be long before she'll be re-reading them herself. She and her sister love playing fairies now, it's been great for her developing her imagination and her creative play has flourished lately.

We started with book 1 of the Rainbow Fairies and are now on the Weather Fairies Series. I highly recommend these books.

4 out of 5 stars My daughter and I are reading every one.......2005-12-02

These books are just right for my 6-year old girl. She loves the magic (the 2 human girls can turn into fairies and fly!), the puzzle of finding the color feathers, and also the friendship of the girls and fairies working together. I enjoy reading them too, that's important, they aren't boring to me!

5 out of 5 stars Perfect read-to-me chapter book for 5 yr old girls.......2005-09-12

Fern the Green Fairy is book #4 in a terrific read-to-me chapter book series. I think 4- to 6-year-old girls are the target audience. In the series, two girls vacationing on "Rainspell Island" discover a black pot at the end of a rainbow. Through each book, they find a "rainbow fairy" and return her to the pot. Once all 7 are found, color will return to "Fairyland." A wonderful mix of two girls' determination and imagination.

5 out of 5 stars Grimoire for the Green Witch by: Ann Moura.......2007-10-09

This Book is great for the Beginner, and advanced alike. It's written in simple, easy to comprehend grammar, and trusted by my circle, as well a few others that I know of. Don't think twice about ordering this book, you'll thank yourself, and the Goddess for finding it! Blessed Be!

5 out of 5 stars Good intermediate book.......2007-08-31

While I haven't read any of Ann Moura's other books, I picked this one up as a reference for writing my own rituals and such. I didn't think I would find the wealth of information I did. Most of the rituals she has included can be easily adapted to suit one's needs and some of the other reference type material can't be found in any of the books aimed more for beginners. This is truly a book for the intermediate or advanced practicioner. I highly recommend this book to those looking for something a step up from the introductory books.

4 out of 5 stars Great Book.......2007-05-14

Book is just as described and arrived in good time. I would purchase from this seller again!!

5 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Wiccans, Pagans, Witches, and All Other Magical People!.......2006-09-08

This was one of those spur-of-the-moment purchases at Borders (you know, the book you buy practically unseen because your library is in need of new blood). I really didn't know what to expect from it, since flipping through it was somewhat confusing. I ended up buying the book on a Friday, and finishing it the following Tuesday. It went from being a book I never heard of by an author I'm vaguely familiar with, to a book that is my "go to" book for ideas, formulas, inspiration and everything in between, and Ann Moura has earned a spot as one of my favorite metaphysical authors out there. I, honestly, couldn't put this book down.

This book is a Grimoire in the truest sense of the word. It contains a little bit of everything, from various rituals and spell casting techniques, to pages and pages of charts and spell associations, some of it surprisingly advanced, and a lot of it something I've never seen in any other Wiccan/Witch related book on magic. While you don't have to read the book cover to cover, those who do are rewarded with a plethora of fascinating traditions, rituals, spells, and ideals related to green magic. This is one of those rare books which is perfect for the beginner, but still perfect for the intermediate or advanced practitioner. The beginner will find the first chapter, which contains information on everything from the Creed of the Green Witch, to the Sabbats, Basic Tools, and Altar Arraignment to be an invaluable tool to help them transition into working magic. Those who've been on the path for awhile will positively wear out their chapter related to spell crafting and correspondences. I particularly found the sections on Geomantic Characters, Planetary Squares, Planetary Seals, and Planetary Hours to be of spectacular value.

The Quick Spell Chart in Chapter 8 is positively genius... The quick spell chart has the most common basic goals of spell crafting (Blessing, Cleansing, Fertility, Abundance, Success, Warding Evil, Releasing Negativity, etc), accompanied with categories to help you quickly set up and design a spell so as to encourage the best results. For example, if I wanted to do a spell to increase my psychic awareness, I'd go to the Quick Spell Chart, look up "Psychic Power," and read down the columns to see what the best Moon, color, elements, days of the week, Planetary influences, numbers, Ogham, Runes, Herbs, Incense, and Stones are for the spellwork.

The spells and rituals given in this book are not your standard, run-of-the-mill spells and rituals, so this book won't be yet another book that tells you how to do the same 6 spells. While the author is quite clear that these spells can be done "as is written," she also is quite clear that the best way to use the spells is to change and adapt them to your own needs. And it's hard not to be inspired by what she writes. The rituals she shared that I thought were especially beautiful were the Companion Quest and the Passing the Midhes rituals. I can't really explain them in any way that does them justice, but both rituals utilize the use of black mirrors to contact spiritual companions and/or resolve persona conflicts and/or gain insight into past, present, and future situations. They are unlike any other spell I've ever seen, really, and I think this book is worth it for those two spells alone.

The section that I found surprisingly wonderful were the meditations section. I'm not a big meditator, but I really connected with the suggested meditations that the author shared. I thought they were creative, interesting, easy to apply, and I have found that the results are beyond my wildest dreams... Or should I say meditations?

I think some people may find the layout of this book confusing (especially people who are new to the craft), which means that you're probably better off buying this book along with another of the books by this same author if you're new to the path. Though, it should be said I haven't received any other books by this author yet, but I did get the definite impression she was building upon ideas, principles, and concepts she worked with and introduced in other books, which would have probably prevented some of my confusion. I'd imagine this book along with her other series would be an unbeatable reference. It should be said that this is certainly not a Wicca 101 book (it should be said this isn't even a book about Wicca, it's a book about Witchcraft that can be used Pagans, Witches, and Wiccans), so if you're unclear of any aspect on magic practice, this should not be the first or only book you get.

My only problems with the book was that I was a little disappointed with the oils section, as I was kind of hoping for more in the way of oil recipes, though I bet that if I got any of her other books I'd find what I was looking for. I also could have wished she'd included a section on ritual recipes and foodstuffs. There were a couple of recipes, but you know that a woman who's been in the craft for 30 years, who learned from her family, has got to have some *spectacular* ritual recipes. Again, she could have shared it in other books and I wouldn't know, but I think that this book could have used a ritual food section.

As far as I'm concerned, this book is a "must-have," if you have any of her other books or not, simply for inspirational value. If this book doesn't make you want to run out and do ritual, nothing will!

5 out of 5 stars I love this book.......2006-07-30

I own this book. I use it all the time in my spell craft. It has been very helpful to me in my search for more.

In nature, darkness is as vital to life as light, however, we often pass reluctantly through shadows with a shudder. Ann Moura counters our negative perceptions of the dark side of the universe with Green Witchcraft II: Balancing Light and Shadow. Moura shows us the positive energy to be found in working with elementals and dark herbs, and through her guided meditations she familiarizes us with the dark aspects of the Lady and Lord: the Crone and the Hunter. Tapping into the divine power of darkness nourishes an acquaintance with the cycle of life, death, and transformation that subdues trepidation--and opens communication with the dark side within. --Brian Patterson

Book Description

Green Witchcraft II.

Green Witches are deeply connected to the Earth and the cosmic balance of light and dark. They welcome the wisdom of the light and the shadow sides of nature, the self, and the Divine to grow more whole in magic and spirit.

In Green Witchcraft II, hereditary Witch Ann Moura reveals how to develop a balanced practice by incorporating the powerful, dark aspects of the Goddess and the God. Guided meditations, spells, and rituals enable you to invoke the energy of the dark powers and achieve your goals through magical workings.

5 out of 5 stars Better than the first one!.......2006-07-26

As someone who is trying to keep my distance from all the sweet candy colored magick in Witchcraft today, I was thrilled that Moura's second book tackled the Dark side, because without it there is no balance!

I loved everything about this book (well, ok, the reviewer that said the last two chapters could have been better was right), the meditations, the rituals, and I was amazed by the chapter on the Ogham!

She includes coorespondences for Dark Power Herbs, Deities (from a variety of pantheons), and more. I really like Moura's tradition of the "Green Witch" and how she approaches her Craft, and would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone past their 101 stage who's ready to dive into the less talked about/utilized side of the Craft.

5 out of 5 stars Someone's finally addressing this..........2002-10-13

I loved this, not for the content (which was marvellous), but BECAUSE of it. Very few serious books have been written on the dark aspect of paganism because they don't want people to think of it as "black magic," and many (most) that have been written are trashy, focusing only on teenagers who want to [tick] their parents off. It's a side that needs to be explained that's not usually included in 101 books, or anywhere else. I was just glad to see it. The book itself is worth reading, whether you agree with her or not, for another perspective that I believe is widely ignored.

3 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings.......2002-04-25

Please don't misunderstand me even though I only gave Green Witchcraft II three stars - I do think it is an OK book, and badly needed as well. What with all the "pink sugar witchie" books appearing on the market lately, it's just great that someone dares to write about "the shadow side". My problems with this book didn't arise from that. No; I just expected it to be _all_ about what the title says: "Balancing Light & Shadow", i.e. understanding the Dark as well as the Light in a more general Craft context. Instead, about a half of the book seems to be information on Moura's own Craft tradition. No doubt the book is useful as a whole to those following that specific path, but personally I found no actual use for half of it. The meditations are excellent, though!

Moura is also guilty of a very common slip-up - making a mess of Finnish names, Deities and folk beliefs. There were never any Finnish Gods called "Hiesi" and "Tunni"...

Oh, but if you feel like buying this book, don't be discouraged by my review. GWII _is_ still a book worth its price, especially for those who were really into the first part of the series.

5 out of 5 stars Balance- what a relief!.......2001-02-03

A friend suggested this to me some time ago after I complained about how "fluffy" or severely dianic so many books in this area sometimes seem to be. I can't thank them enough!

Finally, a book that talks about _balance_. Light and dark, male and female; she reminds you that energy itself isn't one or the other, but neutral. It's what you do with it that matters.

Moura has a proper yet conversational writing style, which lets you absorb and think about the information presented without stumbling through bad grammar and awkward language. Though I'm not too sure about the faery stuff, much of the rest of what she has to say really hit home for me. Her listing of the basic "laws" of witchcraft is simple, clear, and to the point- probably the best phrasing I've seen.

She suggests ways of dealing with your fears via visualization and meditation; offers basic information about ogham, tarot, creating ritual, and obviously, working with both "light" and "dark". She keeps a balance of male and female, leaving this book pleasantly neutral.

A useful book for those looking for "something more" as they wade through the books available about paganism, witchcraft in particular. At the top of my recommendations list, along with Cunningham's "Wicca for the Solitary Practitioner".

5 out of 5 stars Back To Basics.......2000-09-25

I own all three of the books in the greenwitch series

and could not be more pleased with them. Not only is the

the casual acceptance of faerys, spirits, and the like

similar to own upbringing with my mother and grandmother,

even those not so wonderfully blessed not only can see what it

must have been like, and start on the path of the old ways

without fear or distrust. BRAVO!!!!My dear lady...you've

done it once more!!

Blessed be my dear readers! Merry meet again!

4 out of 5 stars Good book. The course that completes the trilogy........2002-04-11

This book really seems like it should have been written before the first Green Witchcraft. And this book goes along with the first Green Witchcraft and not the second one. It also constantly refers back to the first Green Witchcraft, which, in this book, is refered to as "the text". This book is very much a course with different lessons every chapter. All in All a pretty good book. I look forward to reading Ann Moura's newest book, Green Magick.
Blessed Be!

This witch does not fear nature and the woods, but finds a sense of belonging and connection with the earth and the universe. 3 out of 5 stars Witchcraft ? This is Wicca.......2007-09-20

The Tides( or seasons) are called Sabbats in this book? and this is a Witchcraft book not Wiccan? Sabbat is a Wiccan word. Why is this lost on people?? This is a Wiccan book. Nothing wrong with that!!.I like Wicca But please dont call it something else when you use words like Mabon and Sabbat yes I understand what they are ,what they mean and on and on.People feel ripped off when they buy the book(I did).I know this will be lost on most people and will also make them upset.
This is a great book for those of you that like to say you are not Wiccan but a Witch, even if your practice is just about all Wiccan.
Wicca is a influence for most of us that today practice anything that is called Modern Witchcraft.
Still I have found that most books(and people) that have Witch in the title are no different than the Wiccan Witchcraft books, while claiming not to to be.
This is not a bad book, but you can find the same stuff in other books that are better.
Also you can not just throw the word Witch to any culture you want.
I know it is popular.
That is much like calling the Runes (or Wicca for that matter) Celtic.People do it, but it will not make it true.
You would do better to read some books on Herbs and or Natural Magic that do not have the word Witch or Wicca in the title after you have read this

5 out of 5 stars By Far the Best Book I've Read in Regard to Witchcraft...........2007-02-10

This book is an absolute "Must Read"! Myself being a Witch, not a Wiccan (yes, there is a difference), I have read countless books on the Craft over the past 10 years. Although many of these books were quite interesting and offered great insight, needless to say something was missing. When I came across Green Witchcraft, I literally jumped for joy! I had finally found "The Book" or shall I say, "Books". Green Witchcraft, Green Witchcraft- part II, and the Manual, along with Grimoire for the Green Witch are indispensable! Page 75 & 76 truly hits the nail on the head...But, I won't give it away! Set aside a weekend for yourself. Curl up in your favorite chair and read this book! Brightest Blessings.... )O(

5 out of 5 stars For those who appreciate the Earth.......2006-12-30

I find Ann Moura's family tradition comforting and relaxing. I am an Earth girl through and through and find myself nodding in agreement to her ideas of history and theology. Green Witchcraft calls me home, back to a time when women were sought out for folk remedies to ailments, there was a spinning wheel in every accomplished home, and a hearth for every fire.

This book is great as a foundation to any magical practice. It blends well with fairy faiths as well as high magick and traditionalists. I like the emphasis on finding your OWN worship.

Check out the series or even the Grimoire. I guarantee knowledge and fun.

5 out of 5 stars The first Craft book I read!.......2006-07-12

I found this to be a great first book on witchcraft, and enjoyed the author's personal insights into how she came to follow the path she has chosen, as well as how her upbringing shaped her as a person and a witch.

I would recommend this book to anyone, and today I was finally able to purchase the second book in this series...

With a wealth of helpful charts and ideas, and extensive background for running a Border Princes game, this supplement is a must for anyone who wants to create their own Warhammer experience. New careers, insights, and game aids make this book very excellent.

4 out of 5 stars Stake Out Your Own Corner of the Borderlands.......2007-06-29

The Renegade Crows: A Guide to the Border Princes hardbound supplement for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is one of the better supplements available for the roleplaying system - and has a great deal of information useful for any campaign or fantasy setting.

That said, this is not your typical game supplement. While it does focus on a specific region - the Borderlands to the southeast of the Empire - from the begining the book sets the scene that this is a fractious, uncontrolled region, comprised of myriad smaller regions vying for power or looking to secure their niche. As such, the topography, geography and borders are largely irrelevant.

Other than some cursory information about a few standards in the Border Pinces, the bulk of the book focuses on how to create your own region within the tapestry of the Border Princes overall -- using an incredibly robust, detailed step-by-step process to breath life into your very own corder of the Borderlands.

The region creation system helps an enterprising GM create their own vibrant area -- geographical features, towns, villages, riverways, and scores of interesting oddities... an abandoned shrine, a mystic temple, a ruined city from a long lost age. There are rules to further elaborate on and detail each of these features... How was this region ruined? What monsters or threat lurk in the area? Who rules the area?

There is an excellent walkthrough of the creation process, and a fully-developed region ready for use, but it's quite fun to grab some dice and a sheet of graph paper and start plotting your own map. As the region takes shape, ideas for adventures spring to mind. The charts and tables for creating intrigue, rulers, conflicts and the other details are incredibly useful and easily applied to other regions in the Warhammer setting.

My only disappointment is that it is a relatively short book - for the price point, I would have welcomed another 10-16 pages of content detailing existing material I could immediately access rather than generate on my own. Still, a relatively minor quibble given the excellent resources contained inside this tome.

5 out of 5 stars SETTING UP YOUR OWN BORDERLAND.......2007-04-27

The game designers of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay continue to amaze me with their lush detail and beautifully produced supplement books. Renegade Crowns is another gorgeous book featuring outstanding artwork. Renegade Crowns is a campaign supplement that covers the Border Princes or Borderlands as it is also referred to, giving players a richly detailed, yet open-ended region to set-up their own campaigns and adventures. Note that it is not a guide to the Border Lands themselves, but rather a way for the GM to carve out their own region. Within the first few chapters, the GM will find all the information to quickly create their own unique region in the Borderlands through the use of various random tables.

These tables include things such as geography and landscapes, types of border princes, inhabitants and communities of the region, characters, encounters, and more. These allow the GM to get their campaign set-up very quickly yet there's so many options and choices provided that you never get the feeling that it comes off as bland and cookie-cutter. You could set-up a campaign a hundred times and never duplicate the exact region because the tables are so diverse. There are also tables for generating all types of random Border princes from Knights to bandits, to priests and merchants, all with their own unique characteristics.

Chapter six covers the hazards of the Borderlands including numerous different types of monster encounter tables and notes on designing monster lairs. A fantastic example of a region called Masserschloss is included and takes the GM on a step-by-step tutorial on creating a region. I highly recommend that every GM read this tutorial as it is extremely well-written and fully explains the entire process from start to finish. This really may be the most important section in the entire book.

The final few chapters deal with becoming a border prince, first by seizing power and then by holding it. This covers everything from internal court intrigue to protecting your region from external attack from rival lands. There are many adventure hooks provided throughout Renegade Crowns to get the campaign off and running.

If your desire is for power, then becoming a border Prince is a great way to go!

3 out of 5 stars Not really the source book I'd hoped.......2007-01-03

While the book is well put together, and well written. It's not a source book for the border princes area. It's a book for running a campaign where the characters are Princes. There is some material for normal campaigns in the area, but you would need to generate the area yourself, or use the example provided. Personally I was hoping for a source book dealing the major towns, and factions of the area.

Green magic is the foundation of modern witchcraft, according to author Ann Moura, a descendent of a long line of maternal witches. It comes from the ancient pagans, who relied on the natural world--using herbs, faeries, wind, rain, and fire--to create spells, potions, and healing teas. "The Green Witch is a Natural Witch, a Hereditary Witch, a Kitchen Witch, a Cottage Witch, a Hedge Witch ... and generally a Solitary Witch," she explains, hoping to demystify this sacred, yet highly accessible craft. In her previous books (among them Green Witchcraft and Green Witchcraft III) Moura offers manuals devoted to mastering specific spells, such as alter-making and potions. In Green Magic she takes a more philosophical approach, delving into the psychology, ethics, and traditions of this earth-based craft. For instance, she offers a section on "transference magic," which warns practitioners to keep close tabs on the unconscious mind so as not to subconsciously transfer negative energy to other people when trying to cast goodwill spells. Those who need basic instruction will find some practical advice here, such as the use of "ritual jewelry" and making magical herbal teas, but mostly this stands out as the deeper discussion that advanced witches yearn for once they pass Green Witchcraft 101. --Gail Hudson

2 out of 5 stars Great for beginners..........2004-05-04

I loved the Green Witchcraft series, but that was about four years ago. Since then I've read *many* other books (about 75 in my now five years of study) and have had my own experiences with magic in that time. I had genuinely expected a continuation of the Green Witchcraft books with a more indepth look at magic of the Green Witch. What I got was a dull rehashing of what I've read in most of the books that I consider Wicca 101 material that made me just about fall asleep in the first few *pages* - seriously.

If you're just starting out, this is a *great* book for looking at magic. But, as the author says, much of it is the same as presented in the Green Witchcraft series - so if you've read those, is there really a point to reading this one? For someone that's read a lot already or has been practicing a long time, it's just the same old stuff rewritten and will most likely make you want to return it for a refund.

And, as a side note: Is it just me, or is Ms. Moura just playing off the success of her Green Witchcraft I & II with all her other "Green" books?

4 out of 5 stars good.......2003-08-05

I'm not a very big fan of Ann Moura, but I have to say that I really liked this book despite the lack of spells. I loved the tables of correspondences in appendix a. She covers all the aspects of spellwork and provides clear and easy to follow instructions. Her other book, Green Witchcraft:Folk Magic, Fairy Lore, & Herb Craft, provides some background into her work, but this book is great by itself, too. A must have for the spellcrafting section of your Book of Shadows.

5 out of 5 stars Good.......2003-01-05

This is a very good book. She explains how magic works, energy working and how to use this energy depending of the type of magick youre using. Don't even read the review before me..this person doesn't really know what magick is..

4 out of 5 stars More on the Green Tradition.......2002-02-16

In this installment of the Green Tradition, Ann Moura explores energy working. While this may seem very a general topic, Ms. Moura has tied this all in with her own tradition of Green WitchCraft.

All the components of working magic are here, and tradition or no, they can be applied across the board in any tradition where the individual wants to work magic. This reads as a basic 101 to a 202 primer on working with energy, energy manipulation, components of spell working and all the ritual and tools associated with this.

I was pleased to see someone finally approach magic as the energy work it is and work through the basics without the mumbo jumbo. Her section on energy is good, and her discussion on purpose and method will spark some conversations.

This is a good companion to her previous books, and is a good working primer on spellcasting and energy working. If you found her other books on her Green WitchCraft path your path, then this is a good continuation of that work.
