THE DESTROYER NEVER DIES . . . .
VIVA LA REVOLUCION!
When a dozen border patrol volunteers are murdered in New Mexico, apparent victims of Mexican nationals, Dr. Harold W. Smith of the super-secret agency CURE worries the first salvo in a new border dispute has been fired. His worst fears are realized with the appearance of the charismatic Santa Ana, a uniformed, would-be despot with a silver tongue and a thirst for bloody revolution.
General Santa Anna has redrawn the border between the U.S. and Mexico to fit his own twisted version of reality, and thousands of illegal aliens are drawn to his message of liberation. The Southwest is on fire, and as the revolution explodes the entire nation is at risk. It seems the brazen general has planned for every eventuality. Except one...
Mostly MIA for the past four years, Remo Williams, CURE's one man enforcement arm, has returned to the U.S. just in time to prevent Armageddon. With his Korean mentor Chiun, the Master of Sinanju, at his side, America just might live to see mañana.
But it turns out Santa Anna is not the only threat to The Destroyer. Remo not only must save the United States from civil war, he must square off against the only woman who ever killed him...

This is the OLD Destroyer!!!!.......2007-08-09
Wooo! He's back - they're ALL back. Remo, Chiun and Smith have returned to the world they were born in - and it's a GREAT world indeed! The characterizations are right, the dialogue is right, the relationships are right. This is the way it's supposed to be.
(I've got ALL the books, read each of them more than once (well... okay, there were a few that I could barely get through once!) and I KNOW when something's right - and when something jumps the track.)
I hope that the series has taken out the "revolving door" of authors for the next several years - or at least find authors that have bothered to read the old books before thinking that their "skills" and "worldly understanding" will get them through!
Great job - keep 'em coming!
Remo, we missed you!.......2007-07-31
Ahhh, it sure feels good to find The Destroyer is back to it's roots. Remo is taking care of business as only he can. Chiun continues to be the most dangerous Korean who has ever lived but still has the childlike qualities that have always made us love him. Smitty is still the proud American bound and determined to save the US from itself and will continue to work at it until his dying day.
In this book you will also find useless self-serving politicians (yes, Virginia, they do exist). You will find out what really happened at the battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto. You will also get the return of one of Remo's most dangerous enemies. You get all of this wrapped up in a very funny, very exciting adventure the likes of which we haven't seen in a Destroyer book in several years.
Do yourself a favor, buy this book. If you are an old fan of the series you will enjoy the return of Warren Murphy and Jim Mullaney to the books. If you have never read a Destroyer before, then this is a great place to start your obsession.
Nothing new here........2007-07-29
I was a reader of The Destroyer from the first novel until the early 80's. I didn't know the series had continued on. Apparently, it was a good thing I didn't keep up with the series.
Well, from my point of veiw, there's nothing new about this 'New' Destroyer. Remo is the Master of Sinanju by title only. Chuin is still there, even though this book makes reference that the two of them met during the Kennedy administration and it is now 2007. I figure this would put Remo somewhere near 70 years old, and Chuin well into his 120's.
Chuin has devolved into a spoiled child. Where he used to insult Remo, he now only plays with toys. He actually _likes_ other assassins, rather than consider them pretenders to the art of killing.
Smith seems about ready to retire though. He's old and arthritic. He works fewer hours, and has delegated some of his responsibility to an assistant.
I was disappointed in the book. One of the things I liked reading the series for was the growth of Remo. Now that there are two Masters of Sinanju, the book is nothing more than graphic descriptions of how the Whop-Fu took effect. There is one scene where Remo casually rips the door off a Panic Room. He's already able to dodge bullets, and in several instances, he took the full brunt of a missile, or TNT and walked out without a scratch. So, essentially, the two heroes are all powerful and invincible.
I was hoping that Chuin was gone, or retiring, and that Remo had taken on a student to replace him. That would have breathed new life into the series for sure.
Don't get a copy.
DESTROYER IS A FUN SUMMER READ!.......2007-07-16
My first exposure to The Destroyer was in the 1980's with the movie Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. While not a good movie I was very entertained by the characters of Remo and Chuin and their camaraderie. That said I read several Destroyer novels throughout my teens and then life moved on.
On a whim at a bookstore this summer I saw New Destroyer: Guardian Angel and decided to give it a read. I'm glad I did. The characters are firmly intact and creator Warren Murphy and new scribe James Mullaney do a fantastic job of reinvigorating the series.
For anyone new to the series, it's easy to jump on. Remo and his mentor Chuin are master assassins in the art of Sinanju. They work for CURE a secret branch of the government that deals with impending perils to our country. In this novel the dangers come from a militant group that want to create new borders and countries between the US and Mexico. Remo and Chuin are called on to defend the Alamo, stop a ruthless female killer, prevent illegal aliens from causing lots of trouble, and so much more.
For summer time reading it's a blast. If you're familiar with the characters give it a read because you'll find in doubly enjoyable!
Guardian Angel (new destroyer series).......2007-07-13
The author has gone back to the original "Destroyer" series style and it was a pleasure to read this book, by Warren Murphy.
Customer Reviews:
Historical Fiction?.......2007-02-14
Whether or not you choose to believe the incidents in this book, if you read with a curious and open mind it will propel you into a new reality. It is the "herstory" that male authors did not allow into print for 2000 years. Considering the personal interpretation of history that we have been subjected to, this book offers a very plausable alternative and one which can change our spiritual visions for years to come. Is it history? Maybe not. Is it truth? Very likely!
Awesome read.......2006-01-16
I loved this book! I have read The Messengers and this book is like reading the sequel. I have loaned it to friends who have since bought their own copy because it is a book you'll want to read again.
Read it in one sitting!.......2005-03-04
Having already read The Messengers followed by In God's Truth (by Nick Bunick, who The Messengers was about), I could not wait to get my hands on this one. It was an amazing story and I was touched in so many ways...sometimes to tears.
I am reading it now for the second time and it feels as though it is the first. Going to be a very powerful book, for a very long time I am sure.
Reincarnations Find Forgiveness in the Present for the Past.......2005-02-22
In this series of dialogues with women visionaries who see themselves as reincarnations of biblical heroines, Ms. Ingram reveals the possibility that the Divine Feminine is emerging in the 21st century through the personalities of spiritual devotees today.
Following her subjects through their hypnotic investigation of early Christianity, the author makes clear her point that there is currently a call for the Sisterhood to be found.
Written with candor and a lack of personal judgment, this work opens the door of the mind and allows the reader to walk in the shoes of those who have gone before us. Common threads of recollection seem to give credence to these stories and the collective unconscious, or Akashic Records, from which they are drawn.

Who were Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene ... REALLY?.......2005-02-16
What an amazing journey! Master regression therapist Julia Ingram opens the door to a hidden world where these historical women can finally speak for themselves.
Ingram's journey led her to 15 women who, when regressed, provided first-person accounts of their lives in the company of Jeshua (Jesus). ("Jeshua," which is ancient Aramaic, is the name he actually answered to.) They offer eyewitness reports of Jeshua and the women who were an integral part of his mission---most prominently, his mother and teacher Mary and his wife Mary Magdalene. Even small details about their everyday activities and the relationships among them are startling enough to freshen our view of that world, and show how distorted later accounts have become.
Jeshua was an inspired visionary. Ingram's work suggests that the women close to him shared that vision with greater authenticity than the men who succeeded him as the founders of the early Christian church. The female role in that vision was ignored, or even concealed. As one contemporary woman exclaimed after re-experiencing parts of her life as Jeshua's younger sister Ruth, "The Bible leaves out half the story"---the women's half. Ingram performs spiritual archeaology, bringing to light this buried treasure and showing us its urgent relevance in rebalancing the chaotic energies of today's world.
The women of the lost sisterhood are speaking out. Spiritual seekers who want to truly understand the mission of Jeshua, Mary Magdalene, Mother Mary, sister Ruth, and the others will miss vital pieces of the historical puzzle if they overlook the personal accounts in Ingram's work. Read this book!!

a gift.......2003-05-30
I bought this book for both my beloved stay-at-home-mom sisters for Mother's Day.
They both LOVED it. Rave reviews.
One sister recieved this book after a whole night up with a teething baby -- she cried she was so happy to get it; it gave her a lot of peace and "a new breath of fresh air".
I reccomend it.
Welcome to new babies.......2002-04-09
This book was so great that our church has ordered copies to be sent out to new babies in the area with a welcome to the world letter. We chose this after reviewing about 15 different books It's an easy read with joy and tears for busy new mothers. Terrific book!
Simple Truths that Encourage and Lift You Up.......2001-01-23
I received this book from my mother when my daughter was born almost 5 years ago. She gives such incredible encouragement and simple truths to living a Christian life. I have certain pages marked that I go back to from time to time when I feel like I need to be reminded of the kind of mother and person God created me to be. Absolutely a must have for old and new Christian mothers.
Simply delightful!.......1999-03-12
I am the mother of two small children and LOVED this book. Lorriane relates to moms everywhere. I didn't feel so everwhelmed after reading her book. A must have for the new mom library
Must Read for Parents of all Stages.......1999-02-24
I read this in one sitting. Though the settings are drawn from early-parent situations, I think it would be enriching for anyone who remembers. The inspiration and comic relief can touch anyone who longs to discover God's peace and love in each busy day.
Book Description
A fresh and enlightening new perspective on Mary, Mother of God, and her central importance in the Christian faith, from the author of the highly successful The Lamb's Supper.
In The Lamb's Supper, Catholic scholar and apologist Scott Hahn explored the relationship between the Book of Revelation and the Roman Catholic Mass, deftly clarifying the most subtle of theological points with analogies and anecdotes from everyday life. In Hail, Holy Queen, he employs the same accessible, entertaining style to demonstrate Mary's essential role in Christianity's redemptive message.
Most Christians know that the life of Jesus is foreshadowed throughout the Old Testament. Through a close examination of the Bible, as well as the work of both Catholic and Protestant scholars and clergy, Hahn brings to light the small but significant details showing that just as Jesus is the "New Adam," so Mary is the "New Eve." He unveils the Marian mystery at the heart of the Book of Revelation and reveals how it is foretold in the very first pages of the Book of Genesis and in the story of King David's monarchy, which speaks of a privileged place for the mother of the king.
Building on these scriptural and historical foundations, Hahn presents a new look at the Marian doctrines: Her Immaculate Conception, Perpetual Virginity, Assumption, and Coronation. As he guides modern-day readers through passages filled with mysteries and poetry, Hahn helps them rediscover the ancient art and science of reading the Scriptures and gain a more profound understanding of their truthfulness and relevance to faith and the practice of religion in the contemporary world.
Customer Reviews:
If I could give this book six stars, I would!.......2007-01-26
Dr. Scott W. Hahn writes like he speaks. He uses wit and an engaging style to drive home essential teachings of the Christian faith. His ability to hold and enlighten an audience is similar to that of the late Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen of a generation or two ago. Likewise blessed with a strong intellect and good judgment in his use of entertainment, Scott Hahn is living proof that dogma need not be presented as dull or overbearing.
Hahn's "Hail, Holy Queen" is an important and lively book. It is important because it presents the ancient and once-universally-accepted Christian teachings on the person and role of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In AD 431, at the Council of Ephesus (the third of the generally accepted early ecumenical councils; the seventh was in AD 787), Mary was acknowledged by the proper title "Theotokos" or "Mother of God" (literally: "birth-giver of God"). Christian theology was still very much in flux and the bishops at Ephesus saw in this affirmation an important piece of the puzzle of how Jesus' divine nature integrated fully with the human in the one divine Second Person of the Holy Trinity. In his book, Hahn teleports the reader back to the fifth century, to a time of rejoicing over this breakthrough insight into the mystery of Christ's Incarnation.
Hahn delivers this and much more in "Hail, Holy Queen." God is not a slave driver but wants us to be in His family, as brothers and sisters "from the same womb" (cf. Greek "adelphos"), through a covenant of persons. Mary has a motherly role in this family, a role that is relationally derived from being the mother of Jesus Christ. She is of course a creature, but a most excellent one at that. Hahn makes all of this very clear -- and very encouraging for the reader who is willing to accept it!
And Hahn's effort is lively, because he does it with panache. Not in the least deadly dull, Hahn mixes in a dash of humor here and there to make his points. I especially enjoyed his chapter and section headings: "Cutting the Unbiblical Cord," "Maternity Warred," "Venerators of the Lost Ark," etc. I thought the Hahn couple's book "Rome Sweet Home" was really good, because I can empathize with it, but this one is even better. As they say in some circles, "It doesn't get any better than this!" Keep up the great work, Scott! Rev. Dennis J. Mercieri
Excellent way to understand how Mary fits into Christianity.......2007-01-11
For any Christian trying to understand the importance of Mary in their devotion to Jesus, this is an excellent study. Not only does this book explain what Catholics mean by honoring (not worshipping) Mary, it also explains why it should fit into the lives of all Christians as an ecumenical factor.
This book will answer many bilblical questions about Mary.
Hahn has put an excellent theological study at the fingertips of every common person. It is easy to read and understand.
Biblical basis for Catholic beliefs on Mary.......2006-05-25
For anyone who needs to see it in the Bible to believe it, this book explains the biblical basis of Catholic beliefs about Mary. Written by a former Presbyterian minister, now Catholic; it is THOROUGHLY biblical, also easy to read, written in simple laymen's language. It is amazingly insightful and interesting, and is an indispensable tool to broaden any Christian's -Catholic or Protestant- understanding and appreciation of Mary. A must read!

Mary: Images of the Holy Mother is Jacqueline Orsini's beautiful, succinct, pictorial survey of art history's many incarnations of the Virgin Mother, from a fresco in the Roman catacombs to a modern mural in San Francisco. The book is organized chronologically, collecting reproductions of Mary's constantly transforming image in Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Counter Reformation, and various 20th century movements. Artists represented in the book include Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Van Gogh, Chagall, and Gauguin. At every stage in this evolution, Orsini's compilation of images is guided by her conviction that "Mary transcends the media, the temporal and regional restrictions, and human limitations that govern her image in any one era. The meaning of the icon outweighs the individual artist or epoch." Therefore, this book becomes an occasion for inspiration; turning its pages provides an experience of communion. Orsini writes, "As we look at Mary, she looks back at us through the eyes of art." --Paul Power
Book Description
Although she is mentioned only a few times in the Bible, Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the most holy and revered woman in the Christian world. Through the ages she has inspired millions through her quietly majestic visage, and is second only to Jesus as a revered subject for artists over the centuries. Mary: Images of the Holy Mother is a visual celebration of Mary that takes an international and comprehensively historic view of this exalted religious figure. From the earliest known depiction in a fourth-century Roman catacomb to modern murals and colorful tattoos, folk and popular images of Mary abound between the pages of this vibrant collection. Also lending their own renowned versions of Mary are such great artists as Henry Moore, Paul Gauguin, Francisco de Zurbaran, Rufino Tamayo, Edward Munch, and Fra Filippo Lippi. A breathtaking visual feast, Mary invites people of all faiths to contemplate her endless manifestations.

Fatima pre announced by Spiritists groups.......2006-08-15
The old rumor is the basis of this kind of book. This is the way to catch naif believers, without chances to know the real and original reports about Fatima events. Do they really know, ie. that the Portuguese daily press published in February 1917 a few reports made by Spiritist groups in Lisbon and Porto ( the major national cities )announced that "in May 13 a great anounce would happen"? Well, the catholics believers can not see here a proof for their devotion; by the contrary, the Spiritists don't agree with the official Marian apparitions interpretation and they would not be the promotors of the present Fatima status. So, why these spiritist groups got the preannounce in the Portuguese press with 3 months in advance? This is a fact, not invention, that everyone can read at a library. So, the traditional interpretation of Fatima must be revised. The believers will have to look at the original reports and enqueires on the phenomena and not pious third-hand slogans that repeat the well known rumor processs in Psychology. Who said that the Marian apparitions never could be understand by Science is mistaken. Try to read
"Heavenly lights" and "Celestial Secrets" by Portuguese historians Dr. Joaquim Fernandes and Fina d'Armada to learn what REALLY happened at Fatima 1917.
Caution!!.......2005-02-20
WARNING!!. ......If you are a traditional catholic, I advise you not to buy this book (actually, no one should). Some of the images are selected from artists who did not respect modesty in their subject. Also, the author includes such trivialities as a tattoo on somebody's arm. I consider at least one image to be blasphemous due to its revealing nature.
Mary Art.......2004-10-12
This is a beautiful book with a very broad range of madonna-art in it. There is a great deal of variety in the countries and movements represented. Not a great deal of narrative, sometimes you have to do outside research to find out more details but in terms of quality and variety, this one is a very good deal for the price.
Chronicle........2001-02-07
As usual, Chronicle Books presents a lavish book. This is simply a physically beautiful work. I would not be surprised in the least if giving this book becomes a First Communion or Confirmation gift tradition.
Book Description
Holy Mother! She gets around, that gal, and now her myriad miraculous appearances are captured on film and in living black-and-white (as opposed to in marble, glow-in-the-dark dashboard plastic, or tasteful acrylic paint on black velvet).
Look! There she goes again: dancing on stage at a Madonna concert in Vegas. Wait! Isn’t that her riding hogs with the Angels (Hell’s Angels, that is)? And sure, sure, we all know she’s been seen in many a tortilla, but have you ever encountered Our Lady of Masa Harina? Who’s that white water rafting? Giving Air Jordan a high-five? Yep, that’s our Mary, not exactly the unathletic, retiring type she’s made out to be in Renaissance art.
But you have to look closely at these photos, courtesy of the Institute of Seriously Weird Virgin Mary Sightings (ISWVMS), for Mary’s appearances are, like those of Elvis, unannounced, inexplicable and, well, seriously weird.
Wait, don’t bite into that cinnamon Danish…look closer! It’s not just a swirl of filling, it’s…it’s…her!

Praying the Rosary:With the Joyful, luminous, sorrowful and glorius mysteries.......2007-08-09
Thank you for having that book available. It is handy to take traveling because it is easy to pack and convenient and quick to use.
Praying the Rosary.......2007-02-05
Very helpful for those who are interested in the Rosary or those who are in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.
Lousy Bare Essentials -- Disappointing.......2007-01-19
No idea why this little nothing of a book is earning such positive recommendations. (Well, I note that one five star review below is by one of the book's co-authors!) It is not really anything more than a one prayer, one page instruction book for the rosary, with the prayer on the right page, a small illustration on the facing page. Do you know the little blue "Pray the Rosary" books by Rev. Lelan, printed since the 1950s by the Catholic Book Co.? Exactly the same idea here, but in a little hardcover, with Medieval icons as the illustrations. Actually it's not even as good as those little give-aways, since they offer memorable little thoughts to help focus the prayer: "I desire forgiveness for my sins," "I desire the virtue of patience," etc. This book does offer brief scriptural readings to accompany each prayer, its true--but then so does a rosary pamphlet I picked up for 50 cents.
Sorry to be so grumpy about it; I was just expecting more. There's nothing wrong with this book per se. It just doesn't offer anything that you can't get elsewhere in free or nearly free Catholic publications.
Additional Gripe: Notice how glorious and grand the illustrations seem if you preview this book with the Search Inside feature. But this book is about 3" by 5", so the pictures are around 2" by 3", about the size of a wallet photograph.
Eye-Opening Little Wonder.......2006-12-26
The best aid to prayer! Little prayer-helper that can be taken anywhere and which truly deepens the act and understanding of the Rosary. Love it! Just as I devoured "The How-To Book of the Mass" this one will get dogeared and tattered.
A Rosary Resource Patterned on the Apostolic Letter.......2005-03-23
For someone looking to "make a difference" in our world so filled with unrest and need, responding to Pope John Paul II's call to embrace the Rosary is one affirmative step that can be taken immediately. As a resource for making contemplation of the Rosary a part of your life, authors Michael Dubruiel and Amy Welborn have compiled the book Praying the Rosary: With the Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, & Glorious Mysteries (Our Sunday Visitor, June 2003, hardcover, 64 pages).
Though compact in size, this book can and will have a tremendous impact upon your life if you choose to read and implement its suggested format. The book's introduction reiterates the Holy Father's call to this perfect form of Christian contemplation and points to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a role model for contemplating the true mystery of Jesus Christ, his life, death and resurrection. Bearing both the Nihil Obstat and the Imprimatur, Praying the Rosary incorporates all four sets of mysteries, including the new Luminous mysteries.
Welborn and Dubruiel follow the format suggested by Pope John Paul II in Rosarium Virginis Mariae including the announcement of the mystery, scriptural references, contemplative silence, the formal prayers of the Rosary (including a short prayer phrase following each Hail Mary related to the specific mystery), and a brief concluding prayer for each mystery. Newcomers to Rosary devotion will find the compendium of prayers at the completion of the book a helpful resource.
Complimenting the suggested format, stunning artwork graces the pages for each of the mysteries. Contemplation of these wonderful icons provided courtesy of St. Isaac of Syria Skete allows the user yet another point of interaction with the mysteries of the Rosary.
This book's compact size makes it the perfect tool for incorporating the Rosary into your daily devotional routine. The hardcover format is durable and will stand up to daily use. The book will easily slip into a purse, briefcase, day planner or coat pocket. Praying the Rosary has taken up permanent residence in my "home away from home", my vehicle, where my boys and I daily contemplate the mysteries of the Rosary in our own effort to better know and love Jesus Christ. We pray each day, joining our hearts and minds with countless millions around the globe, for peace in our own little corner of the world and beyond.

Remo hits a new low........2006-08-15
It's a Destroyer novel so I wasn't expecting great literature, but "Holy Mother" has got to be one of low points in the adventures of Remo Williams. While most books in the series will give a little peek into the background of the "bad guys" to show where their motivations come from. "Holy Mother" goes into great, and at some points unneeded, detail into the histories of the most minor of charters and bad guys. This kind of detail just comes off as obvious padding. Other obvious padding that took place is the repetitive descriptions of the "Holy Mother's" servants, I can remember at least three times where their skills were mentioned. It just gets repetitive after a while.
There is also no suspense with this book at all. As the entire plot is given away in the back cover blurb. That much would have made the book a little more enjoyable, but when you know who the enemy is and what they are after before you even open the book it just takes some of the fun out of it.
There are a couple of things about "Holy Mother" that I liked. They are starting to age the charters a bit Smith now has a assistant (I realize that this is not new to "holy Mother" but this is the first Destroyer book I have read in a while). Chiun according to Remo is ill and maybe dieing, we have started to see weakness in what up till now has been the infallible master. There was also a subplot running through the book that will probably lead to some great conflict, but what that may be I do not know. ( I am sure that if I were a bit more up to date with The Destroyer that I would have gotten more out of the developments of this subplot but it was all lost on me).
Overall an OK book at best. If you want to get into The Destroyer series "Holy Mother" is not the book for you. It would be best to start with one in the ones numbered in the high teens back when Murphy & Sapir where in command and not the hack ghost that Gold Eagle has on the job now.
Onholy Mess.......2006-07-18
The Destroyer started in 1971 as an action series that had more going for it than any other series. I have been a devoted reader since the beginning but if I didn't know that next year Tor Books will be publishing The Destroyer then this horrid book would be the last one I would buy. This author started out with some promise but that promise died quickly. There is no Remo and Chiun in this book. There is a little Remo, less Chiun, and even less Smitty. The book is all about the bad guys and they are pathetic. If you are a completist then buy this book and the next one and then wait patiently for the return of the REAL Destroyer next April. Jim Mullaney and one of the series creators, Warren Murphy, have reclaimed control of the books from Gold Eagle and they promise to bring back the characters we have lived with for decades.
The End is Near...for Gold Eagle.......2006-07-09
Just when I had hopes that the Gold Eagle era of The Destroyer series would end well, the penultimate book, Holy Mother, was released. Skip this one. Trust me.
This rush job is in serious need of both editing and revision.
I'll probably pick up Dragon Bones because I've read almost every Destroyer book, but I don't have high hopes for it.
I trust the new publisher will do a much better job with the future books. I also understand there may be another Destroyer movie in the works. Things are looking up for the franchise as Gold Eagle flutters away.
