Book Description
"Off the rack gives me hives."
-- Cordelia, "Out of Mind, Out of Sight"
The Scoobies are used to being personally affected when demonic nasties come to Sunnydale. And they're used to strange things happening at Sunnydale High -- after all, the place is built over the Hellmouth. But they've sealed the Hellmouth, so they don't think anything's out of the ordinary when items to be sold at the first annual band fund-raising rummage sale are stored in the school basement...which, one might recall, is directly above that Hellmouth.
Once the rummage sale begins, it's clear the stuff for sale is far from ordinary. People seem to be strangely affected by the items they're buying -- things from undemonic homes, donated by undemonic people. So the reactions these items are producing are, to say the least, unexpected. Willow's acting weird. So's Xander. And even Buffy's mom bought something....
The situation quickly spins out of control, and the school has to be quarantined...leaving Buffy and Giles to sort things out before whatever demon this is sells them down the river.

I loved it..My only problem was that it was too short.
An Awesome Blast from the Past! Loyal fans will enjoy this throwback..........2007-03-16
Now that "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" has been ended since the show took it's final bow in 2003 (*sniffle*), fans will really get a kick out of this blast from the past -- Buffy style!
While any and all Buffy novels that have been produced since 2003 must choose a position on the Buffy timeline with which to create their new tale, it is pleasantly refreshing to see one that hails from the early season 2 timeline. "Bad Bargain", in relation to it's timeline and setting within the Buffyverse, actually takes place during Season 2, before Angel turns evil. By my estimate, it would need to take place sometime after the episodes "What's My Line? parts 1 and 2" (because we know Xander and Cordelia have begun their secret tonsil hockey sessions in various broom closets), but before the episodes "Surprise" and "Innocence" because Angel is obviously not evil yet.
Buffy novels have evolved beautifully, coinciding nicely with the evolution and sophistication of the show. One of the things I loved about this novel was that it truly represented the whole Season 2 vibe in it's storyline, dialogue, and writing style. It would be easy to read this novel and be able to completely picture it being an actual episode during that season, which I think might have been the feeling author Diana Gallagher might have been trying to invoke. There are many incredible Buffy novels, but at the same time it is not always easy to try to picture some of the stories being an actual part of the Buffyverse. They are fun and entertaining, but also a little constricted with a this-doesn't-quite-feel-like-a-real-part-of-the-story kind of mentality. "Bad Bargain" is 100% a season 2 episode!
Another fun thing about this novel is that it (like all post 2003 novels) has the advantage of knowing where things are going. It can easily slide into it's place in Season 2, while at the same time constantly foreshadowing things to come. Jonathan and Andrew make an appearance, while Mayor Wilkin's darker dealings are alluded to -- and all without breaking it's own storyline. This book doesn't bog itself down by trying to do nothing but foreshadow, but it does throw enough little winks our way. The actual story, which has Buffy dealing with the bizarre and increasingly alarming behavior and physical symptoms of students and teachers who have seemingly come into contact with a mystical ailment contracted from various items during the school's fundraising bargain sale, is admittedly cheesy at times. However, then again, so were parts of season 2!
Bottom line, it's a light and enjoyable read for the average Buffy fan.
When a Bargain is not a Bargain.......2007-02-03
First of all this is set in the post-Master, pre evil-Angel era. Keeping that in mind you will find a lot of clever foreshadowing for later episodes. It is time to raise money for the band (the year before the band candy incident). The school is holding a rummage sale and a lot of the students are forced to help out. Unfortunately the donations were stored in the basement right by the Hellmouth itself (I always thought is manifested in the library but the giant slug was in the basement). The seal on the Hellmouth has developed some minor cracks. Not enough to let anything significant through, but large enough for the Hellmouth equivalent of bugs and vermin to pass through. They have infected the donated items and the items are infecting people handling them.
Soon a crisis is looming as people begin to come down with strange symptoms and wasting diseases. The school is closed and quarantined until a solution can be found. The one hope is that there is a demon that is the equivalent of a Hellmouth dogcatcher and he is supposed to get the beasties back to preserve the Earth for the big baddies when they are ready to take over. So we need to keep the slayer from killing the demon, round up the bad beasties before people start to die, get everyone back in the Hellmouth, and seal up all of the cracks. Pretty much a typical day for the Slayer, what with fighting monsters and trying to keep people from dying. To find out how successful the Slayer is you will have to read the book.
This is a fun period in the Slayer history. Angel is not yet bad, Ms. Calendar is still around. Oz has noticed Willow but she doesn't know it yet. Spike and Dru are the big baddies. All of the foreshadowing of future episodes is clever and well done. The plotting moves with just enough plot complications to keep it interesting without getting silly. Characters are portrayed true to form so you can hear them delivering their lines. All in all a wonderful little story that would have made an excellent episode. If you like the early Buffy then this is a story for you. Check it out.
An Offer You Can't Refuse.......2007-01-02
Author Diana G. Gallagher returns to the Buffyverse with this tale, set early during the second season of the television show. She's come up with a new and interesting menace for the Slayer to fight; rather than the usual demons, ghouls and, of course, vampires, Buffy has to battle an infestation of tiny vermin...from insects to bacteria...that have escaped from the Hellmouth, mystically contaminating a number of people within Sunnydale High School, including her friends Xander and Willow, her mother Joyce, and even the vampire Drusilla. Because these aren't the usual sort of villains she can punch, kick and stake, Buffy has to use her wits in order to win the day.
By quarantining the action inside of the school building, Gallagher builds a mounting degree of claustrophobia that plays well into the tension Buffy feels as she races against the clock to find some way to get the Hellmouth creatures back to their side of the mystic barrier, thus preventing the entire human race from eventually falling prey to their diseases.
Having the advantage of knowing what was to develop on the show for years to come, Gallagher has fun playing around with some of the characters by hinting at future events. Willow and Oz haven't met yet, but he is definitely curious about her (this story takes place shortly after the "Halloween" episode of BtVS). Buffy and Spike the vampire must enter into a truce of convenience during the crisis, but although they loath one another, there's still a tiny spark of sexual tension between them. And the author retroactively adds Andrew to the mix, although mostly as a character on the periphery, alongside his best friend, Jonathan. Plus, she brings in Jenny Calendar to play a prominent role in the story. And there are a lot of other fun little tidbits sprinkled throughout.
I think what makes "Bad Bargain" work the most is that the author has put Buffy into a fresh situation, and as such she allows the Slayer to employ her intelligence more than her muscles, to good effect. And as a big bonus, Diana Gallagher writes the characters of Xander and Willow very well, and it was a treat to see how she utilized them here.

Customer Reviews:
Knights are Meant to be Respected.......2006-12-19
I didn't like Time Warp Trio because when it began it was mostly about the knight. As you read on, it tells about the giant and the dragon. It made the knight look not very smart and like he had no power. The kids basically looked like they had all the power, even without armor. If I were the author, I would have had more action with the knight and the kids and the knight would have been the greatest fighter or he would have been up there with the greatest heroes. -LL
Poor langauge and inappropriate humor.......2005-12-31
I was very shocked when I read this book to find that so many people deem these appropriate for children. They do have some information for the kids to learn from (the reason I chose them originally) but the way the children talk and act is terrible! I had only thumbed through one and chose it from the library from my son, then I let him read the rest of the series and suddenly had him calling names and being disrespectful and LAUGHING about it!
I was really disappointed. I think things can be funny without name calling and using poor language. I am just glad I haven't ever purchased any.
A little too much like magic tree house.......2005-09-01
These books are really nice, but my daughter has already read a bunch of the magic tree house books and these are just too much like them.. she thinks these are funnier but the idea has no sparkle for her any more.. but I would recommend these books if you haven't started reading the tree house series..
Let's Do the Time Warp Again.......2004-09-23
I was going through some old books the other day when I happened upon my "Time Warp Trio" collection. What began as thumbing through "Knights of the Kitchen Table" ended with my reading all four of the stories right then and there. They were terriffic when I was little and they are terriffic now.
Great for boys!.......2004-03-26
It's hard to find books for boys that really turn them on to reading but these did the trick. My son insisted that I read them too so we could talk about the plots. Entertaining and well written, perfect for a second or third grader.

Book Description
What can we expect from the next two brilliantly creepy books in the deliciously disturbing Dripping Fang series? Well, it’s probably a safe guess that they will be just as bizarre and frightfully fun as the others. And we could possibly surmise that they’ll take our two heroes, Wally and Cheyenne Shluffmuffin, back to the clutches of the show-tune-happy Hortense Jolly at the Jolly Days Orphanage, where odd adventures might ensue. Who knows, maybe even The Jackal (of international assassin fame) will make another appearance.
Nothing’s exactly for certain when it comes to these out-of-the-ordinary tales, but it’s definitely a fact that Dan Greenburg gets wackier and more inventive with each new installment.

wow, it was great, i really liked it because it was kind of funny as an old granny as a an assassin trying to kill the shluffmuffin twins as a bounty for the ont qwueen. I liked it because of the train affair with the snakes when wally shluffmuffin prevents the black mamba from killing them.

Bad hare day.......2007-01-29
When I first saw this book at the library the name and the cover of the book kind of looked silly so I got it. I wasn't expecting the book to be anything great and it wasn't. It wasn't really scary, but it was still worth reading. Anyways, this book is about a boy named Tim who loves magic. His favorite magician is Amazo and someday Tim wants to be a magician just like him. In the book Tim gets a ticket to go see an Amazo show, but it isn't until ten at night and his parents won't let him go. Tim really wanted to go see the show so he sneaks out at night with his sister to go see it. At the show Tim gets to talk to Amazo and he turns out to be mean, so Tim decides to steal his bag of magic tricks. This book isn't scary and nothing really that exciting happens until about the end of the book. Even though this book wasn't the best goosebumps in the series you should still definitely read it.

The setting is in present time. Tim gets tickets to see a magishon who is his hero Amaz-O. he asks his parents if he could go see Amaz-O , but his parrents said that the show is too late. His little sister overhears him ask his parents if he could go see Amaz-O and she says that she wants to go too. Tim and his sister later that night sneak out to see Amaz-O. When they got to the club that Amaz-O was perfoming at called midnight mansion, they tell the gards that their parents were parking and be in soon. O their way in, Amaz-O wisperd in tim's ear, "i'm going to use you in my final act." Amaz-O does some pritty amazing tricks and he gets to his final trick. He says that he will pick someone out of the audience to help him with his final trick. Tim gets picked to go up on stage. Tim gets put in a magic box and Amaz-O makes him dissapear. Amaz-O dodnt realy make Tim dissapear, he just made Tim fall in to the bastment . While in the basement he heard everyone leave.

Magic tricks and a weird magician .......2005-07-13
bad hare day is another one of my favorites. first, i liked all the different magic tricks, like the multiplying red balls and hissing snakes. The story is about Tim, a boy who wants to be a magician. When he sees Amaz-O, his most favorite magician, he gets trapped in a room after performing a dissapearing act. When he gets out, he steals Amaz-O's box of tricks, but he doesn't know what kind of tricks are in there! Youll have to read the book to see if Tim is really a good magician.
Great.......2005-03-05
Tim Loves magics. When he meets Amaz-O in person, he cannot beleive it. One day, he stole the magic kit of Amaz-O. When her snotty sister takes a bite of the carrot, she turns into a rabbit. How will Tim make her sister go back to normal?

Despite its ominous title, How to Be a Wicked Witch is more like a bad girls' guide to being a good witch. Considering the primary tenet of witchcraft--"Harm no one, including yourself"--there's really not much leeway to be wicked, according to author Patricia Telesco. The trick, then, is not to attack your enemies, notes Telesco (author of Magick Made Easy). Rather, stay well defended and sharp in skills. This way, you can ward off attackers and remain wickedly happy with your dazzling strength and confident attitude. Telesco offers specific suggestions for boosting witch esteem and magical powers, such as "Living well is the best revenge" and "Own a decent broom" (to sweep out the dirt in life and sweep in good luck). She refuses to offer guidelines for enacting revenge or casting evil curses, since black magic will come back to "bite you in the butt." Other tips include casting spells for self-protection, learning fortunetelling skills, and creating magic potions. --Gail Hudson

Good For Its Ideals.......2007-06-27
This book was one of the first I ever read upon the subject. It's not exactly original, but it presents some interesting ideas and principles. Though some of it is impractical, over all it's a good book for beginners...or witches who need to lighten up a little bit.
Wicked and Wonderful.......2007-06-19
I absolutely love this book. I picked it up off the bargain table at a bookstore (how could I NOT with that title?!) and after flipping through it, I put the How-to-keep-from-snapping-and-beating-those-who-annoy-to-a-pulp self-help type book that I was also carrying down. So I originally purchased it as a fun, light read, and it's excellent for that, but I did find myself starting to relate to the witchier parts. With my new found interest, I've been seeking out similar books, and it seems to me that this one is the best (of the few I've purchased so far) at giving you the tools that you need to run with witchery yourself, rather than step by step rituals or spells (although those are there, too).
Positively "Charming".......2006-08-05
This book is a wonderful "starter" book for someone who wants to try some simple spells and charms. It also gives you good advice on how to conduct yourself as a witch. It is the first book on witchcraft that I ever purchased and I was very surprised and pleased with it. For example, the author gives you simple substitutions for items used in spells that you can find around the house, even in your "junk drawer". So, you don't have to spend a lot of time and/or money looking for for "ingredients". Delightful, informative and FUN!
Couldn't enjoy it, sorry..........2005-06-24
I tried to read it, I really did, and I don't understand why you all think it's so wonderful. I found it superficial, messy and BORING!
This book is NOT about wicca, and that's maybe why I rate it so low: because I got disappointed! (this is not a bad thing, I'll just tell you, so you know it)
I think that her correspondence-lists are very messy, because she's mixing trees, flowers and herbs together in a non-logical way when she describes them. I actually just got more confused by reading this book.
The way she writes is so boring, I actually fell asleep while reading it. (It's true!)
I'm never gonna open that book again. I think ill sell it or give it away to someone I don't like.
If you're an experienced witch, don't even think about buying it.
If you're new to the craft and you just want a book about spells and divination-stuff and such, and you don't mind the mess, I believe you could enjoy this, though I still think you might be better off with a book not quite so superficial.
but maybe thats just me...
blessed be
kanti
it's okay.......2004-04-14
Nice title, don't you think? Of course, but, all who have heard of the author already know it's not about being evil or anything. It's basically just a book to take into your hands when you've had a bad day. (Nope, when I have bad days, I don't find myself turning to it, or any books for that matter). I guess this is a good book to have around, for basic fun and witchery, and if you're a fan of kitchen witchery, you'll like the last chapter. There's also a weird spell in there to make people go away by making them fart. (I think it would be easier just to tell them to leave, than have them stink up the house!) What else to say? Well, I don't know if people who have her other books would find anything new in this one, since this author likes to repeat stuff and the such, and, the last chapter of this book, "Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble (Food and Beverage Magic)," has now been published as its own little book.
So, did I think this book was fun and informative? Yes, but I wouldn't say its a must-have. In it, it has hints of glamour, simple folk spells, kitchen witchery, and the such, which is always good if you wanna feel magical, or just wanna solve a problem by using magic.
This book is probably good for kitchen witches, and similar folk.

Fantastic story!.......2003-03-15
When Sabrina catches a twenty-four hour virus called Spellfluenza, her powers transfer to the nearest mortal - Libby, Westbridge High's richest and snobbiest person! When Libby realizes her magical powers, she wants nothing less than global domination. Therefore, she makes a plan to steal the powers of Drell, head of the Witches' Council. Once done, Sabrina, her aunts, Salem, and a now mortal Drell must pass three tests or the universe will become one big shopping mall dedicated to Libby!
[5 stars]I was enchanted immediately! I found myself giggling aloud at some points and committing unladylike LOUD laughter at others! Don't miss out on this one!
Salem wished for fish, AND GOT THEM!!!!.......2001-05-22

ACHOO!.......2000-06-10
I read this book two times, cause it was so good! Sabrina gets a serious case of spellfluenza, and she sneezes her powers into Libby! Well, Libby also gets Drell's powers, and now Sabrina, Hilda, Zelda, Salem and Drell have to complete three tasks in Libby's infinite shopping mall (In the Other Realm) to get to meet her and get her powers back! I recomend this book for everyone! IT'S GREAT!
Can a mortal Sabrina outwit Libby, the witch?.......2000-01-01
Sabrina's got spellfluenza, a nasty little witch virus. Every time she sneezes her powers pop out of her and into the next person. Another sneeze & they're back again-whew! It's not bad at first-Sabrina only sneezes in pairs. But then Libby Chessler gets in the way of a solitary achoo and...uh-oh.
It doesn't take Libby long to figure out she's picked up some powerful magic. Now there's just one thing she wants...more! After all, world domination isn't out of the question!
Sabrina's challenge is clear: follow Libby on her search for bigger & better powers and stop her. But can she do it as a mere mortal?

The Time Warp Trio THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE GOOFY .......2005-06-08
Do you like funny things? Because if you do this is the book for you. It's about three boys named Fred, Sam, and Cookie who use magic to go back in time to 1816, the western time period of time.
Jon Scieszka writes it. He writes the series called The Time Warp Trio. I really like this book.
If you want to find out what happens to Sam, Fred, and Cookie go to your local library.
Good Book.......2004-01-09
I think the funniest part was when Joe was saying "hello, waisachu, hello waisachu".
The Good The Bad And The Goofy.......2002-11-27
Joe, Fred, and Sam are watching a western show, when suddenly they get sucked back into the book. The boys find themselves in a desert.Fred starts to hear something. It's a stampede. They are about to get hit by the stampede! Will anyone come to their rescue?
Some of the funny parts are when they almost get run over by the cows and at the end when you see the hole in Fred's hat.In one of the pictures the cow has 5 utters so tht was funny.I think you should read this book because it's just as funny as the first two Time Warp Trio books.
Funny and Suspensful.......2002-03-13
"The Good The Bad And The Goofy" by Jon Scieszka is great for a short read (It is only fifty pages.) The fights between Fred (really athletic) and Sam (really smart) are hilarious. The book starts out in Joe's attic when Fred, Joe, and Sam wish to go back in time to see the cowboys and indians using Joe's magic book. The way the book works is they say a rhyme and end it with where they want to go. I won't tell you what happens when they get there because I don't want to spoil this great story! If you don't think that you'll like this book than don't pick it up because the book is so great that you won't be able to put it down. In short, if you like magic, comedy, and suspense then this is the book for you!
Out of this World, and Back in Time!.......2001-01-24
The Time Warp Trio is a crazy trio of a spotlight man, a brainiac, and a human pig. "Mr. Spotlight" opens The Book. He says the goofiest rhyme you can think of to send his crew back in time to the cowboys. What do you know? It works! All of a sudden, this Time Warp Trio find themselves in a "twister" of adventure. Illustrations help you imagine the story clearly. If it gets boring for a page or two, don't panic; it will jump right back into adventure. Beware, it's dynamite laughs.

Fantastic!!!.......2001-08-19
i read it on my vacation. i really loved it so much that i wish it was longer!!!
A funny and exciting book.......2000-09-02
I liked this book a lot. I wanted to look after Mildred because she kept on making mistakes. I was scared of Miss Hardbroom; I'm glad she's not real. It's rather funny. I think my sister will like it when she's older because it's about someone who's not very good at things, just like my sister now!
The Worst Witch.......2000-06-27
This book was exciting at times but had some boring parts. It was interesting and funny at times but sometimes a letdown and boring. Kind of to kiddy for me.
