Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

In this sequel to the Victorian fantasy A Great and Terrible Beauty, Gemma continues to pursue her role as the one destined to bind the magic of the Realms and restore it to the Order--a mysterious group who have been overthrown by a rebellion. Gemma, Felicity and Ann, (her girlfriends at Spence Academy for Young Ladies), use magical power to transport themselves on visits from their corseted world to the visionary country of the Realms, with its strange beauty and menace. There they search for the lost Temple, the key to Gemma's mission, and comfort Pippa, their friend who has been left behind in the Realms. After these visits they bring back magical power for a short time to use in their own world. Meanwhile, Gemma is torn between her attraction to the exotic Kartik, the messenger from the opposing forces of the Rakshana, and the handsome but clueless Simon, a young man of good family who is courting her. The complicated plot thickens when Gemma discovers a woman in Bedlam madhouse who knows where to find the Temple; Ann shows signs of being enamored of Gemma's loutish brother Tom, and their father's addiction to laudanum lands him in an opium den. A large part of the enjoyment of this unusual fantasy comes from the Victorian milieu and its restrictive rules about the behavior of proper young ladies, as contrasted with the unimaginable possibilities of the Realms, where Gemma has power to confront gorgons and ghosts and the responsibility to save a world. (Ages 12 and up) --Patty Campbell
Book Description
Gemma Doyle is looking forward to a holiday from Spence Academy—spending time with her friends in the city, attending balls in fancy gowns with plunging necklines, and dallying with the handsome Lord Denby. Yet amid these distractions, her visions intensify—visions of three girls dressed in white, to whom something horrific has happened that only the realms can explain.
The lure is strong, and soon Gemma, Felicity, and Ann are turning flowers into butterflies in the enchanted world that Gemma takes them to. To the girls' great joy, their beloved Pippa is there as well, eager to complete their circle of friendship.
But all is not well in the realms—or out. Kartik is back, desperately insisting to Gemma that she must bind the magic, lest colossal disaster befall her. Gemma is willing to comply, for this would bring her face-to-face with her late mother's greatest friend, now Gemma's foe—Circe. Until Circe is destroyed, Gemma cannot live out her destiny. But finding Circe proves a most perilous task. . . .
This sumptuous companion to A Great and Terrible Beauty teems with Victorian thrills and chills that play out against the rich backdrop of 1895 London, a place of shadows and light . . . where inside great beauty can lie a rebel angel.

Anxious For the Third Book, Yet Hate To See the Trilogy End..........2007-09-11
I am (by far) no longer a teenager, and I don't usually read YA books (just never really thought about it before). Further, I don't usually even read Fantasy--except that I have read the first 4 Harry Potter books, of course, because, at the time my son was reading them and he insisted that I read them too. And I admit that I thoroughly enjoyed them! HOWEVER, I must say that I absolutely enjoyed the first book of this trilogy, "Great and Terrible Beauty" even MORE!!! I then ran right out and bought the sequel, "Rebel Angels", and loved it just as much!! I have already told my husband and kids that I want the third book of the trilogy (The Sweet Far Thing) for Christmas (even though it's release date is set for AFTER Christmas--I simply suggested to them to pre-order it for me and make that my gift). I can't wait!
HERE'S SOME ANTICIPATED NEWS FOR FANS OF THIS TRILOGY: I just found out that the movie adaptation of "Great and Terrible Beauty" is in production (Mel Gibson productions), and is set for release sometime in 2008!!!
Unfortunately, as much as I hate to be a pessimist, I rather wonder if the movie could hold up to the book. In most cases, it seems that whenever books are made into movies, it's always lacking and often a disappointment. The book is always better, and I worry that such will be case here. One's own imagination is always better than the movie, and each of us visualize the books in our own unique ways. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if it can work on the big screen...
An incredible novel, a must-read for all fans of fiction and magic!.......2007-09-09
Libba Bray's novel Rebel Angels was a stunning sequel to her first book, A Great and Terrible Beauty. It was filled with suspense and mystery; once I set down to read it, it wouldn't let me go until the last page. Even at the end, it left me hungering for the next book, The Sweet Far Thing, which releases in December 2007.
The story begins with a prologue from the point of view of Kartik, a gypsy member of a group of questionable motives called the Rakshana and a love interest of the protagonist, Gemma. It is interesting insight on a character whose thoughts we didn't get to see in A Great and Terrible Beauty, and the reader gains clarity and insight into the Rakshana's inner workings. However, when chapter 1 comes, the focus is back on Gemma and her friends, now on Christmas holiday from their boarding school. Haunted by strange dreams, Gemma investigates and unlocks secrets about her mother, about her enemies, and about the strange dreamlike realms her friends and she travel to. The book switches between views of the realms and their real lives, where typical teenage problems occur such as romantic relationships, prejudice and its effects, and substance abuse.
In conclusion, I highly recommend Rebel Angels. Libba Bray transports the reader into Victorian times, an all girls boarding school, and mystical realms without losing a bit of credibility along the way. Her characters are believable, reacting to the situations in different but equally realistic ways. They are not perfect, all possessing unique flaws that make them more interesting to read about, but they are not so flawed that they cause the reader to dislike them. It is a thoroughly enthralling novel, and I suggest everyone who has read A Great and Terrible Beauty read the sequel.
rebel angels.......2007-09-08
"Rebel Angels" strongly continues the saga of Gemma Doyle, begun in "A Great & Terrible Beauty." In Bray's second installment, Gemma's friendships are tested, & the magic of the realms is given more shape. As in the first installment, "Rebel Angels" deals with social attitudes in the Victorian period, which is a great plus. The characters of Ann & Felicity are the main players in the social commentaries, & they end "Rebel Angels" with greater depth than before. Felicity, in particular, turns into a more sympathetic character.
In the way of magic, Gemma's task becomes more defined, something I greatly appreciated after feeling that the magic was too vague in "A Great & Terrible Beauty." This time, the story was truly suspenseful, & the ending was a great shocker. I'll surely buy "The Sweet Far Thing" in hardback.
Great YA read.......2007-07-16
Thought this one started a little slow but really picked up towards the end. I am looking forward to the sequel.
Review for Rebel Angels.......2007-07-14
Between a Great and Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels, I'd have to say Rebel Angels so far is my favorite out of this series. Our favorite characters are brought back from the last novel and are just as wonderful and well developed as ever.
This novel is full of mystery and wonder and it certainly keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end! The imagery and romance in this novel is also wonderful, and it definitely pulls you into another place and time.
I absolutely love this novel and I hope you all enjoy just as much as I have.
Book Description
Filled with action, danger, and suspense this book is sure to keep readers in their seats, following Billy and Bonnie to the exciting conclusion. This is the third saga in a four book series.

ANOTHER GREAT THRILLING READ.......2007-07-14
This series just keeps on raising the bar. The book starts in high gear and never lets up. The final third of the book is just plain UNPUTDOWNABLE!!! Davis just piles on the tension and always is giving us more details about Dragons, Merlin, King Arthur and Excalibur. He very realistically adds to their Myths and makes it seem like this has been part of the Myths for all times. He is very creditable as he leads us along this fantastic journey! Adults who love the lure of Myths should give this series a try. They won't be disappointed.
Excellent Service.......2007-01-17
It took about three days for me to receive the book that I ordered from Amazon. And not only did it come in a timely fashion but it was in excellent condition. No surprises here and that's what I like to see. I would definately come back in the future, especially for the prices.
Easily the best book I have ever read........2006-06-06
Now, don't think. Do not pass go. Put this book directly into your shopping cart. The series of Dragons in our Midst is by far the best series that I have read, including the Harry Potter books(can't stand them now that I've seen six truly great books, the four in this series and the two Inheiretance books) And this is the best book in the series, by a single scale. This is definitely worth reading again and again and again. THIS BOOK AND SERIES TOTALLY OWNS!!! BUY IT!!!
The best book so far in an awesome series!.......2006-05-08
The Dragons In Our Midst series is one of the best series of bookks that ther are, and Circles of Seven is the best book so far. Dragons In Our Midst makes Harry Potter seem extremly flimsy and shallow. (Which is actually fairly true in any instance. JKR was overpaid.) Anyway, THIS IS AN AWESOME BOOK!
BUY IT!
Great!.......2006-05-05
Carrying on the series smoothly, CIRCLES OF SEVEN answers questions from the previous books and still leaves enough suspence to have readers on the edge of their seat, waiting until they get the next book in the series. Never start reading these books if you have a busy day ahead, and most certainly do NOT start them in the late evening! You'll want to finish it all, even on pain of not enough sleep.
Very enjoyable, the series continues to be a very clean, Christian oriented fantasy series that even non-religious readers may be able to enjoy wholeheartedly.

A Victorian boarding school story, a Gothic mansion mystery, a gossipy romp about a clique of girlfriends, and a dark other-worldly fantasy--jumble them all together and you have this complicated and unusual first novel.
Gemma, 16, has had an unconventional upbringing in India, until the day she foresees her mother's death in a black, swirling vision that turns out to be true. Sent back to England, she is enrolled at Spence, a girls' academy with a mysterious burned-out East Wing. There Gemma is snubbed by powerful Felicity, beautiful Pippa, and even her own dumpy roommate Ann, until she blackmails herself and Ann into the treacherous clique. Gemma is distressed to find that she has been followed from India by Kartik, a beautiful young man who warns her to fight off the visions. Nevertheless, they continue, and one night she is led by a child-spirit to find a diary that reveals the secrets of a mystical Order. The clique soon finds a way to accompany Gemma to the other-world realms of her visions "for a bit of fun" and to taste the power they will never have as Victorian wives, but they discover that the delights of the realms are overwhelmed by a menace they cannot control. Gemma is left wi! th the knowledge that her role as the link between worlds leaves her with a mission to seek out the "others" and rebuild the Order. A Great and Terrible Beauty is an impressive first book in what should prove to be a fascinating trilogy. (Ages 12 up) -Patty Campbell

Very intriguing.......2007-09-24
Ok...so I just finished the "Twilight" series by Stephanie Meyer not too long ago. And I have been going through withdrawls---(her books are amazing if you haven't read them yet) And this book was reccommended to me by my dear sister who reads everything! I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed reading A Great and Terrible Beauty. It has such wonderful characters that you really feel like you get to know, and a very interesting story line. I can't wait to start the sequel Rebel Angels now! Highly recommended--especially if you loved the Twilight books :)
a great & terrible beauty.......2007-09-03
It took me awhile to pick up this book, but, after I started, I couldn't put it down. The story is a real page turner & a quick read. Bray sets this tale at a Victorian boarding school, which was a big plus for me because I love anything to to with the time period. The plot centers on a ghost story or sorts, but I greatly enjoyed the social commentary about the place of women during Victorian times. There is also commentary on class & race, which takes the book to another level. Bray could have easily glossed over these important topics of women, class, & race, but her choice to bring them to center stage makes all the difference.
The weakest part of the story was the ghost story. It's not very original & actually quite silly when it comes down to it. I found the supernatural elements to function in the larger picture of the social commentary, so the novel ends up working as a whole. Another problem is that there are precious few surprises in the book, & surprises are usually what readers of ghost stories want. We have the typical mistaken identities, mysterious amulets, & the forbidden diary, all cliche elements, that never offer any surprises to the storyline. It was just way too easy to figure out where everything fit into place. However, there were frightening parts of the story, & that emotion is usually hard to evoke so effectively in my experience with these type novels.
All in all, I'd say this is a great book, & I've already started the second one, "Rebel Angels."
Great promise; but will it last?.......2007-08-13
When I bought "A Great and Terrible Beauty" I didn't know it was just the first book in a series. Gemma Doyle's story ended with so many loose ends in this book that I felt a little cheated. Taken in the context that there are at least three books in the series it all makes sense now; but I prefer to read an entire series at once rather than wait for the next installment each time a new book comes out - otherwise it's hard to judge the overall plot.
I found the book itself extremely gripping in the beginning. Gemma came across as a spoilt young miss in India who didn't want to cooperate with her mother on her 16th birthday. She argues with her mother, runs off, experiences a vision in which she sees her mother's death under bizarre circumstances, and then finds that it has come true.
From then on, her life is never the same. She gets shipped to Spence Academy in England, where she is a student by day, but spends her nights trying to make sense of more visions which lead her first to a diary written by one Mary Dowd, and then to a mysterious new world ("the realms") where she can communicate with her mother.
Intertwined with Gemma's story are those of her friends' - plain Ann, her room-mate; beautiful Pippa, and famous Felicity, as well as mysterious Mary's story, which chronicles her discovery of the realms and how her closest friend Sarah seems to have found a way to gain more power.
Influenced by Mary's diary, the girls form a club called the Order, after a group of women said to have intimate knowledge of the realms, find out that Gemma holds the key to bringing them all into that magical world, and become increasingly enamoured of it. All four have their wishes granted while they are in the realms: Gemma has her mother again, Pippa someone who loves her, Felicity is empowered, while Ann becomes beautiful.
Things come to a head when Pippa's parents broker an engagement to someone she finds repugnant. Gemma decides to go ahead to do what her mother has expressly forbidden her to do in the realms as a result, and also finds out what happened to Mary and Sarah after diary ends. The plot is deliciously twisty, but in some ways leaves questions that are likely answered in subsequent books.
What, for example, are the true motivations of Kartik, the young Indian man who keeps shadowing Gemma and warning her to stay away from dabbling in the realms? Why does Miss Moore know so much about the realms? Where is Circe hiding? And what really happened to the so-called Order, who had gone to the realms first?
The story is written in the first person, which somehow makes everything seem more raw. I felt that Gemma was both real and flawed, though not very likeable, being headstrong, naive, and stubborn. I also had the feeling that Gemma was being misled in the realms, with a lot of the 'goodies' eventually turning out to be 'baddies', but there wasn't any proof of this - at least in book one.
I'm not sure if I'll read the sequels, though I feel the plot has a great deal of promise and the writing is really good. My problem is that I can't really identify with Gemma, and I don't like the magic universe that Bray has created.
I would prefer to think that 16 year olds have more sense than Gemma, and that magic is meant to exist within a proper framework, rather than messed about for frivolous purposes or just to progress the plot. I found it rather far-fetched that Gemma's mother can exist in the realms and communicate with Gemma "after death" as it were, for example.
Teenage girls who like Harry Potter will probably fall in love with the story, and the parallels are there - it's set in a school, the heroine has magical powers, romance is in the air, and there is a huge mystery with danger and death involved. The mix is a potent one. I just hope the ending is as good as the beginning.
Quite good but does it diserve 5 stars?.......2007-06-30
Indeed it Does!
A friend of mine reccommended this to me years ago and I ended up buying it, but it took me a year(or was it years?) to start reading it. I was amazed at how fresh it was! I had expected it to be slightly dull like some other Victorian era books, but I think the fantasy bits and the age of the girls keeps it from being so.
The contents of this book are comfortably intresting with its mystery and Gemma's sarcasm as well as other humorous characters. However, in my opinon, it shouldn't be over analyzed with the gypsy bits as I see someone has already had a fit.
Great read!
Libba Bray is a genius!.......2007-06-25
A Great and Terrible Beauty is another one of my favorite books! It details the story of a young British girl who grew up in India and after her mother's death was sent off to a British boarding school in nothern England. However, despite her normal appearance, Gemma is anything but and can open realms to a different world. A touch of historical fiction (the book is set during the Age of Imperialism in the Victorian Era)and dash of fantasy, A Great and Terrible Beauty is the perfect combination of genres to compose a truly fantastic novel! I would recommend this book to anyone, but the story is probably more appealing to females.
This book is also part of a trilogy (the apparently new hip-thing in writing!) and I would strongly recommend the sequel, Rebel Angels, to anyone who was intrigued by A Great and Terrible Beauty and wants to follow Gemma on a continuation of her journey. The third book is not currently out, but I'm hoping it's just as great as the other two books!

I'll pretend it never happened.......2007-08-31
I don't think I'm alone in saying that the ending of "The Giver" was perfect. It left the reader with just the air of mystery and made it possible for ANYTHING to be possible.
So why, so many years later, are we thrust with a less-than-satisfactory story in place of our imaginations? "Messenger" seemed to me first and foremost a sequel to the interesting "Gathering Blue". "Gathering Blue" had little if anything in common with "The Giver". I didn't really associate the two with each other, yet here Lowry clearly draws a line between the two, one I'd wished she'd have left alone.
"Messenger" is not a bad book. It's just not particularly good either. It was simple, the plot absolutely calm, and there just wasn't a spark. If it was just a slightly bland story then it might be okay, but by trying to tie "The Giver" in with this book, Lowry has made it difficult to accept this book.
"Messenger" does have some positive sides to it. It was very fun to see Matty again, though I'll admit that he seemed a bit more bland here than he did in "Gathering Blue". He lacked fire and emotion, like he'd been tamed and dumbed down. He was more fun as a crazy, spirited kid, but it was still nice to see him again. It's also a thoroughly readable book, written in very simple language that means that just about any age group can read this and understand it.
In the end, though, I'm left with the feeling that Lowry has ruined something for me. I liked how all these years I was allowed to decide what happened at the end of "The Giver". Instead, Lowry has decided for me, and I'd really prefer she wouldn't. I'll pretend it never happened.
For fans who don't mind that "The Giver" is given an ending and really liked "Gathering Blue", "Messenger" may be a good book for you, especially if you like a simple style. There are aspects to this story that make it very good. On the other hand, if you loved "The Giver" as much as I did, I'd suggest avoiding this book and just accepting "Gathering Blue" as a standalone.
Messenger.......2007-06-30
This book continue with the character Matty and Seer at a villiage that accept everyone no matter what the disability. People in the village start acting differenecely and Matty can't figure out why. The people want to close the doors of village. Matty wants to hurry and get his name, but Leader tells him he has to wait. Matty has a speical gift and does something really special for the people. Read the book to find out what Matty does. this would be a good book to read for the content areas, you could study aobut other cultures, economics system, health issues and you can always write about diffence subjects in the story.
The Exciting Book I Read.......2007-06-04
The book I read was Messenger. The author of this book is Lois Lowry. This book is about a young boy named Matty taking mail to people from forest. This story takes place in the past. Matty called himself a name. I am not going to tell you that name because I will ruin the story for you. The plot of this story is that this boy wandered into a forest and found something he did not know existed. The author did a good job showing how Matty helps people through forest. For example Matty helped seer's daughter go through forest.
I would recommend this to many middle schools. This book is a great book for a class to read. Over the last paragraph I told you some reasons I liked this book. Maybe if you read this book you will feel the same as me.
The Madness of Matty the Messenger.......2007-06-04
I read the book Messenger by Lois Lowry. A young boy named Matty is living with an old man named Seer, in a utopian society, in our future. Everyone in this village is named by their gifts, or their powers. Some can see beyond like a man named leader, or some have other powers. The book is about a man named Mentor who wants to close the village to new comers. Seer's crippled daughter named Kira is living on the other side of a dark and fierce forest. She promised she would come live with them, but with the village closing so fast, she might not make it. Matty set out to go bring Kira home, and with their powers they are fighting the crewel forest to get back. The forest is trying to kill them both as it killed many others. They're going as fast as they can, but it might be too late.
I believe the theme of the story was that things may get hard or tough, your challenges may be unbearable, but in the end your friends, family, and people who care about you really matter, and everything is worth it in the end. I think people who like fiction and adventures should read this book because I wanted to keep turning the page. I really enjoyed the suspense. I believe that Messenger was an excellent book!
A Must Read!.......2007-05-31
I read the novel Messenger by Lois Lowry. The main character is a young boy named Matty who has an unexplainable power. He escaped from his homeland community through Forest to Village. He lives with a blind man who is quite old named Seer. Everyone in Village, once they show wisdom, is given their true name. Matty is hoping his will be Messenger because he runs errands through Forest who has not shown him any warnings. Once a year a Trade Mart takes place. Many of the people have traded away their "innerself." Now people who have traded want to close Village to newcomers. Now, Matty must convince Seer's Daughter, Kira who is crippled, to go through Forest. Forest has become hostile. This makes it harder for Kira and Matty to get back to Village before it is closed to newcomers. The story takes place in a utopian society in the future. This community usually takes pride in welcoming newcomers. What has changed?
The theme of this novel is always welcome new ideas, but trust your conscience. Adventure seekers should read this book because it has a page-turning ending. It also has great morals. This is a must read!

warning - very occult.......2007-09-25
My 9 yr old daughter an I have read Tamora Pierce's books on Tortall, and found them very good. These books were recommended to me also, and since I enjoyed the Alanna series very much, I decided to read these. They aren't as good as the books on Tortall. What's more, although Pierce writes about magic in all of her books, these ones in particular I have found to be quite occult in nature.
The occult elements include magic circles, craft magic, and gods/goddesses. The human mages are part of a Temple and practice meditation. Their blessing is tracing a "gods circle" on their chests with their fingertips.
Just as a warning to parents who like to monitor what their children read, these books could almost be a primer to Pagan/Wiccan rites. Read them before your kids do, or with them... but if you are concerned about the occult, don't let them read these books on their own.
Fire, Plants, Weaving, and Storms...come together.......2007-04-01
Sandry is in a dungeon...and her oil-lamp is nearly empty.
Daja is out at sea, floating. All her family was gone, they'd drowned.
Roach (later known as Briar) is about to be sentanced to the docks.
Tris's family doesn't want her anymore.
These four children all have something in common, magic. When Niko, a famous mage comes and takes them to Winding Circle, they are not getting along. Before they know it all four of them are kicked out and placed in Disciplin Cottage where their mentors Niko, Rosethorn, Frostpine, and Lark teach them about magic.
This is a great beginning to a great series! Anybody should enjoy it!
Ahmazing........2007-02-15
About four years ago, I got this book for my birthday. And at that time, I had no interest in fantasy, so I swear it sat on my nightstand for weeks--no, MONTHS before I even opened the thing. Eventually, I opened it. And I read a couple sentences, put the book down and started on homework. Then the calling came, my mind started edging towards ideas of what would happen to Sandry. Why was she in a cell, what did she do with the thread? I ended up crawling onto my bed and reading it. I couldn't stop. I fell in love with Sandry and Briar, Tris and Daja. I loved how everybody seemed to clash and then smooth over. That is when I fell in love with fantasy, with Tamora Pierce.
I reccommend this book for anybody who wants a good fantasy. Just give it a try.
complicated (parts almost don't make sense) and boring, very boring.......2007-01-13
Sandry's Book is a book I had to read for an assignment at school. The book gives you about 100 pages of almost a Martha Stewart, Dr.Phil feeling like your watching it on tv (you'd get it if you read it - which you should NOT)and the other 152 pages are dissapointing. There's about 2 parts of excitement and they both end quickly. This novel is very, very boring and I would only reccomend this to a person that is into weaving, gardening and metalwork.
Don't Hezitate to read this book!.......2006-11-25
At first I did hezitate to read this book because I don't know how I could ever leave Tortal. But I finally got the guts to do it. And after reading the first chapter I knew that I would LOVE this book. It has to do with four kids: Tris who has strange powers with weather, Sandry who surely can weave, Daja who has conections with blacksmithing, and Briar also known as Roach who has conections with plants. You'll absulutely love this book if you love magic and excitement!!

The four travel to the Gold Ridged Mountains.......2007-04-02
Daja and the other mages in training; Briar, Sandry and Tris travel to the Gold Ridged Mountains with their teachers. In this place drought is starting a famine.
Before Daja knows it she's created something new and extrordinary; it's a living, metal vine which grows gold and silver pedals. In the town Daja runs into a woman who is a trader, the type of person Daja used to be. She wants Daja's vine but Daja wants to be a trader again...hmmm?
This is an awesome book! Hope you read it!
A Strong Female Character.......2006-08-03
We got to know Daja outside of her Trader or Circle identities. She emerged as very powerful, smart and capable. This book and Tris's book were the best of this series.
About the title..........2006-08-01
This is just a re-titled copy of Daja's Book in the Circle of Magic quartet - don't get confused by the title!
Spectacular Book.......2005-03-06
I absoluteley adore this book along with all the other books in this series. I love this one most of all. It is great!
Its pretty good..........2004-09-29
Daja's book, by Tamora Peirce, is a series of three books. The other two books to this series are Sandry's Book and Tris's Book. Daja's Book is made for intermediate readers due to magic phrases and terms, which are sometimes hard to understand. This is a story about Daja, her friends, and teachers going to a town to help out. With Daja and her two friends having problems with their magic and the forest fire nearby, they have a handful to deal with. That handful might be just too much for the three teens. Fires blare across the lands and inch closer to what three young teens learn to call home. Droughts cover the land, but yet a glacier, with running water underneath, still thrives close by. How can that be in the magic world? Daja, Tris and Briar, three young teens who are still awaiting their almighty purpose in life, are looking to help out. Their magic, yet separate, works as one. The novel walks the reader through their assignment of helping a village, that for the time being, they learn to call home. The want to go to their real home thrives hard, but the need to help still overpowers.

And this includes Tris, Briar, Daja and Sandry. But please, don't get Tris angry...she'll blow her top.
I enjoyed this book very much and finished it in a day. It's excited, adventurous and even funny enough to keep you hooked. The four mages are lovable characters and they seem like old friends every time I read a book from the Circle of Magic quartet. Hope you read this book and all the others in the series!

Great Review by a young adult reader.......2006-06-18
Well, the way I discovered Tamora Pierce's book 'The Circle of Magic; Tris' book' was by going into the library at my school. I was really looking for my friends and searched the library (probably making a lot of noise as the librarian kept scowling at me) I was about to leave, when I saw her get up towards me. I panicked so I quickly ducked behind a shelf to hide, as well as knocking off several books. I picked them up and the last one to put back was 'Tris' Book'which caught my eye and so I quickly read the first page, so far ao good! It was just the kind of book a girl like me likes, as well as a few boys, it was also about magic which would annoy my dad so I thought that I might as well take it out, the librarian had already gone off somewhere so I was in the clear. When I got back to my class, without the librarian biting my head off, I got back to reading it. It only seemed like a minute after I had lost myself into the first two chapters, and it was a fabulous book! I would recommend it to everyone and anyone. It was so great, I even failed my small Latin test. I was so into the story and plot, that I didn't even care!
The book is amazing! It's like Tamora Pierce hipnotizes you, so that you keep reading and find yourself tied into the characters lives! All I can say after I finished it is buy/borrow it while I re-read this magical fantasy again and again!!!
fun book.......2006-02-24
Tris' book written by Tamora Pierce is a very suspenseful book filled with lots of action. Set in medieval times, this book really draws you into this time period; it is the second addition to a group of four books that are all wonderful to read. Tris' book is a great book for anyone if you are just looking for a fun, fast book to read. Also, it does not contain any great vocabulary problems so younger kids will not have trouble.
Still trying to dig its self out of a recent earthquake, Winding Circle finds that it is once again faced with catastrophe; pirates learning of the recent earthquake have come to discover how they can take advantage of the situation. Infuriated at the pirates for trying to take away the one true home she has ever had, Trisana Chandler rebels in the only way she knows how. As the friendships with her three other mage friends deepens and Tris' emotional scars begin to heal, she is faced with the fact that another blow is about to hit close to home, a betrayer is in their midst. Trisana must learn how to not only to rely on her powers but to deepen her faith in the three that she has come to live with to have any hope of keeping her home.
"You Upset Her When She's Already Frightened...".......2005-04-05
This volume is the second in a four-part series called "Circle of Magic" and is also titled "The Power in the Storm". Set in a fantasy realm over a one-year period, Tamora Pierce tells the story of four young mages who are brought together to live at the temple community of Winding Circle, to control and properly use their various powers.
The children couldn't be more different, but their studies bring them closer together till they are bonded magically (unbeknown to their four mentors), each sharing in the other's unique magic. Pierce claims that her inspiration comes from the olde-world handicrafts that are dying from our own world, such as weaving and metalcraft. Such things are channelled through into the mage's powers, with the exception of Tris who is a 'weather witch' and can hear voices on the wind.
Summersea is still recovering from the earthquake of the previous book, but the damage done to the harbour defences mean that Winding Circle is vulnerable to pirates. The children at Disciple Cottage are called upon to help strengthen the damaged buildings, and it is then that the pirates appear on the seas - and they have their eyes fixed on the riches of the temple. Once again, it comes down the children to rescue their beloved home - which isn't easy considering their is a betrayer in their midst...
The tension and claustrophobia of the temple is vividly created, and the pain that the pirates caused heartbreaking. Most of the action concerns the mages and their teachers preparing the defences, though I have to say that when the climactic moment comes, it's over rather quickly. The turncoat within Winding Circle is obvious, and the subplot involving Tris caring for a baby bird is interesting, but a little needless.
However, the human element is something that Pierce is great at capturing and she does so here extremely well. Tris is a wonderful character, and perhaps the most vivid and interesting of all four of the children. Plump, with glasses, red frizzy hair and a bad temper, this bookworm has a prickly personality that often puts her at odds with most people, and she infinitely prefers a book to human company. Estranged from her unloving family, she is only now beginning to open up to the feelings of human affection. But it doesn't help that the weather churns up whenever she looses her temper.
Each book also explore one of the friendships between the four, and this one mostly concerns Briar and Tris. The fact that such opposites, from such different walks of life can become friends is immensely touching. The other two children have segments of the book dedicated to them, and the bond between all of them is deep and realistic.
Not the best Pierce has to offer, and yet still a pleasant read with Pierce's ability to create the shades of grey in what could easily be a black and white novel.

Sickness strikes Summersea.......2007-04-02
Briar Moss, a mage in training and his teacher Rosethorn are away from Winding Circle for a short amount of time. While he's there he sees one of his old 'Street Rat' friends called Flick. She lives in the sewers and Briar finds out that she's sick. He turned to Rosethorn for help but when he finds out that it's too great for ever her power he knows that Summersea is in danger.
Briar and Rosethorn take Flick to a room where nobody can enter except the ones with the disease and the doctors. While they are trying desperatly to help Flick more people come in with the sickness they are now calling Blue pox. It's getting tough for Briar and Rosethorn.
Back at Winding Circle the mage Crane and his workers are trying to find a cure for Blue pox and so far luck hasn't reached them. Finally Tris desides to help and she's doing a good job at it.
Things are about to get better until...Rosethorn gets sick...
Read 'Briar's book'! It's the perfect ending to the perfect series!

This book is very good! Fantasy and magic lovers would especially like this book and even if you don't it's defenetley worth a try. Ms.Tamora Pierce has many other books out about Briar and his friends so you should read SANDRY'S BOOK, TRIS'S BOOK and DAJA'S BOOK first before reading this.

Not much suspense........2006-05-07
This was probably the worst book in the series when i read the first three books i was like ya this author rights pretty good. I must say i was really excited to read this book. Now i find there is'nt really any cool new charecters the only one i saw that was good was Henna and she died. In this book they didn't use basically any of there magic. This book didn't really have the other three in it I mean i know this is briars book but in others they had close to equal parts but in ths book only about 1/8 really had the other charecters. THe ending wasn't good either because i'm used to seeing them combine there powers but in this book they didn't and the blue pox was very good disease and i loved how it was formed but get real what kind of huge disease has as simple a name as bluuepox. This book also didn't have gorse's cooking I mean come on gorse was cool. And what happened to there training isn't it supposed yo talk about this stuff i mean they didn't learn anything so now i want the author to write one more book for this and you know have it on winding circle talking about what they learned and then have something so powerful happen that the entire world is at stake like lightbridge is planning on taking over winding circle or somethin. Well this is my review.
A fitting conclusion to the series.......2006-04-06
This book is the final chapter in Pierce's Circle of Magic series. When Briar discovers a street urchin with a strange new disease, he is quick to notify his teacher, Rosethorn. The sickness, later dubbed the Blue Pox, begins to spread and soon becomes a widespread epidemic. As hundreds of people die, Briar must work together with Rosethorn and Dedicate Crane to find a cure for the new disease. When Rosethorn catches the sickness, Briar races against time, desperate to find a cure before his teacher dies.
By the time this book rolls around most of the characters have been fully developed enough to be able to explore the plot more fully. As a result this book focuses mostly on the suspense of the race against time and on Briar's relationship with the usually aloof Rosethorn. Rather than dealing wholly with magic, the quartet of young mages is forced to face nature; in this case a plauge. This is by far the best of the series, it is worth it to read the other three just to get to this one. A true fantasy classic, don't miss out!
The best for suspence!.......2005-08-22
This is by far my favorite book in the Circle of Magic books. In the book, one of the four young mages living in Dicipline cottage, the plant-mage Briar, is confronted with the horrors of his former life as a street rat. His street friend Flick comes down with a mysterious illness that spreads to infect all of Emelan. Not only must Briar fear for the life of Flick, but for the lives of his foster-sisters, Sandry, Daja, and Tris. What if the plague reaches Winding Circle? What if he catches it himself? When the only person closer to Briar than the girls comes down with the plague, it will take the strength of all four mages to avert disaster. Can they find a cure before it's too late? You'll have to read and find out! This book demonstrates just how far Briar has come since he's lived at Winding Circle. It is beautifly written by one of my favorite authors, Tamora Pierce. I would recomemend all her books. Happy Reading!

Book Description
Kethlun Warder was a gifted glassmaker until his world was shattered in a freak accident. Now his remaining glass-magic is mixed with lightning, and Tris must teach him to control it (if she can teach him to control his temper first). But there's more at stake than Keth's education. With his strange magic, he creates glass balls which reflect the immediate past and expose the work of a murderer. If he can harness his power properly, he'll be able to see the crimes as they take place. Keth and Tris race against time and the local authorities to identify a killer who's living in plain sight.

Glass Dragons, lightning bolts and a killer on the loose..........2007-04-03
This book is a wonderful book but I suggest that if you wish to read the 'Circle Opens' quartet you first read 'The circle of magic' so that you have more background knowledge on these lovable characters. This book is a great ending to a great series and Tamora Pierce definetly did a splendid job on this book! It's definetly good enough to buy! I read and own all of Pierce's novels but after getting this one from the library I knew that I had to buy it so I could read it over and over again!
Trisiana Chandler is a fourteen-year-old girl with a fast temper and sharp tounge. She is a Weather Mage and very, very powerful. She and her teacher Niko come to a place that Tris is not used to. It's a place called Tharios on the Ithocot Sea. In this place sacred and magical rituals are put on the dead and the people seem scared of death. Those people who handle the dead are hated, ignored, treated differently, and hurt for talking to people out of their group. Tris knows that things like this are horrible and madness.
When Tris finds a man named Kethun Warder she knows that he has magic. It's simple to tell...he just created a dragon out of glass that is flying around the room with lightning in his veins. She knows that she must teach him to controle his power before he destroys himself so she becomes his mentor.
While she's teaching him another problem arrises. A killer is killing tons of performing women. Who are they? Why are they killing them? How will they find the killer? Well, those can only be found by reading this exciting novel by Tamora Pierce. Hope you enjoy!
Pretty Good.......2007-03-15
I really love this seires! I recomend them to anyone into the whole people with magic thing. If you are going to read them, be sure to read the ones before it first.
Shatterglass is both magical and exciting!.......2006-12-17
Shatterglass is an exciting fantasy by Tamora Pierce whom in my opinion is one of the best authors in the world! In this last book of the quartet Tris, a fourteen year-old mage with extrordinary powers ends up meeting a man named Keth. Though he is older than her in atleast his mid-twenties Keth has no idea that he has a magical gift that has to do with both glassmaking and lightning mixed. When Tris discovers his power it is her job to teach him how to controle his magic. As she works with her new student a murderer arrives in the city and is killing women performers almost everyday. Keth and Tris must combined their powers to catch the criminal before its too late!
