I took it on vacation with me and I couldn't put it down. A great book for aspiring athletes and coaches as well as your average Joe who works 9-5. The coaches discuss a variety of topics from their childhood to how they motivate their players. Any easy read for all ages.
Game of life.......2007-07-24

Coaching advise from athletic coaches.......2007-06-27
A fun read, especially if yoiu're a sports fan. I read it in search of things that would help my own ability as a coach in my company. Much of it is light stuff but the easy read makes it fun nonetheless and there are few golden nuggets laced throughout the book.
Overcome Adversity.......2007-04-12
Anyone looking for inspiration, either for their own life or to share with others, will find a gold mine of quotes here. This book isn't just for sports fans.

I'd Fall for him too!.......2005-08-07
Fall Fury is the continuation of two other books Jaci Burton has written - A Storm For All Seasons : Summer Heat ( chronicalling the elementally magical Storm family ) and Devlin Dynasty ( werewolves).
This time Max Devlin, werewolf of Boston, is in search of a mate. He knows exactly who he wants: Shannon Storm, fiery daughter of New Orleans's Storm family. And since he's been sent to help them with their P. R. campaign extolling their new casino its time to make his move. They'll be working together every day in the sultry southern heat and fall hasn't gotten chilly yet...
Shannon can't believe her family thinks she needs help with public relations and she doesn't want anything to do with the northerner they've brought in. And if her mother and sister don't shut up about her "destiny" soon she may just have to conjure a storm to do it for them. And why does a wolf suddenly show up in her neighborhood stalking her?!
For those who loved the previose novels the love scenes in this book are few but far more explicit ( if possible) than previousely. Seriousely, even if you've been a romance reader for years, you are still going to blush over this one! The story is also better, I thought, in this book than the others. I only wish Ms. Burton would finallly get around to chilly Logan's story!
Fall Fury is Fantastic.......2005-03-19
Book 2 of the Devlin Dynasty series and Book 2 of the Storm For All Seasons series, this book successfully merges the two. Shannon Storm is an independent woman with a successful career within her family's New Orleans based business. Max Devlin is a PR hot shot working with Shannon on her family's latest business venture. Max isn't just in town for business but to establish himself in his recent move from Boston and to find a mate.
I loved this book! The sexual tension between Max and Shannon is intense. The plot creative! If you like your romance red-hot, pick up a copy of this book. I've loved every Jaci Burton novel and this one was no exception. Her imagination is fertile and her narrative well written. I highly recommend this author.
Another Winner From Jaci Burton.......2005-03-18
Shannon Storm is not happy when her family brings in Max Devlin to handle PR for the new casino. As director of Public Relations for her family's hotel she believes that she is more than capable of handling it all by herself. But from the moment she meets Max in her family's conference room the chemistry between them is unmistakable. Max Devlin came to New Orleans to build a branch of his family there. He knew that one of his first steps would be to find a mate but he never expected to find her as soon as he arrived. Now that he has, he's got to figure out how to get Shannon to spend time with him and then he has to explain to her about just who and what he really is.
I've never read a Jaci Burton book that I didn't like and Fall Fury is no exception. One of Ellora's Cave most talented authors, Jaci Burton skillfully combines characters featured in two of her best series, Storm For Seasons and Devlin Dynasty, to give us a story that smolders with sensuality and emotion. Readers who have read Jaci's ebooks will feel compelled to add this print version to their library and new readers will not be disappointed with Fall Fury or any Jaci Burton book.

Enjoy the Fury thanks to Jaci Burton.......2005-03-17
Ms. Burton masterfully blends two of her series - Devlin Dynasty & Storm for All Seasons, into a tight story with magnificent characters.
Max and Shannon piqued my curiosity the first time I met both of them and was eager for their stories. I never imagined this author to bring them together with their own story, crossing series, but she did, and she did so fantastically.
Fall Fury is alive with tension, alpha characters - male & female who a reader can't help but enjoy their clashing -- or their hot passion! It's an adrenaline rush from start to finish and a paranormal romance not to be missed.
Devil Dynasty: Fall Fury.......2005-03-17
Jaci Burton knows what women like to read. Her books are crisp, exciting and very well written. The Devlin Dynasty series is a personal favorite. Her Alpha males (want one in my Christmas stocking) are real - you can feel, taste and believe in them. The women are strong but all female. Perfect combination... Thank you for the wonderful hours you have given me reading your books. All the books in this series are HOT - HOT - HOT!!! Trust me you won't be dissapointed with this book.

A Stormy, Steamy Romance!.......2005-04-25
This is the first time I've read anything in this series. Ms. Burton has managed to create a very vivid, and sensual read with characters that virtually jump off the pages.
Aidan Storm is magical in more ways than one. He can control the power of the weather, and when he's very emotional summer storms rage. He is about to be paired up with his destiny and he's not going to go quietly.
Melissa Cross is in New Orleans for one reason and one reason only. She is there to finish a very important business deal, and than she is going to go back home to Boston where she belongs. Well, so much for best laid plans. Instead she is going to finally meet the one man that will melt the icy wall around her heart, she is also going to have to come to terms with his rather powerful...magic. Will she finally allow herself to love the way she wants, and will this large fun family welcome her with open arms?
Again this is a very sensual read. The love scenes are far from filler, and are extremly hot. Truly not for the faint of heart. In any event this is a fun series and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books that Ms. Burton has written.

Jaci Burton does it again. Another excellent story to start off a delicious series. Jaci - thank you for another wonderful read. I am a huge fan of series books and you are a MASTER at them. This story is very hot. A perfect read on a cold night. Make sure your honey is close by - you will need him after finishing this book.
A Storm for All Seasons: Summer Heat.......2004-11-12
This is the first book in Jaci Burton's Storm Family series. The Storm family has a little something extra that makes them special, their emotions are tied to the weather and can effect weather conditions. LOL
Summer Heat introduces us to the Storm family, but focuses on the younger son, Aidan and his stormy romance with Melissa Cross. Set in New Orleans, this romance will cause the already hot temperatures to soar!
Ms. Burton is a talented author whose stories have well developed characters, tight, well-written plots and lots of hot steamy sex driven by intense emotions.

Strong sensuality, good characters with a different twist .......2006-12-22
Deeply embedded within New Orleans culture is the famous Storm family--owners of beautiful hotels and community icons. They also share a variety of magical abilities, many having to do with the natural world or even the weather. The strongly sensual novel is really two complete books in one--each dealing with a season--Winter and Spring. Although
the characters are compelling, the emotional connection deep--this is not written for the faint of "sensual" heart. Feeling brave? Go for it and you won't be disappointed.

a tease.......2006-03-20
A book which is not bad as a quickie read on the basics of Camille, but it comes up quite short as an authoritative source on the storm. Many survivors stories, while compelling at times, begin to sound repetitive, and, strangely enough, leave the reader with a sense that not all has been told.
It is also quite apparent that the author is a born-again Christian, as he often elects to print survivor contentions that they were saved from the storm by their personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Not that this is bad per se, but is does add to the repetitiveness of the narrative, and after hearing it once it seems superfluous, as well as adding a hidden agenda to the text.
This is not a National Geographic-style book about Camille; it tends to stay on a base emotional level; hardly detached, never scientific, and certainly not the last word on the topic. A disappointment, in short.
My Family is Featured in This Book.......2005-08-28
The date of August 17, 1960 will forever haunt me. Only nine years old at the time, I stood in the driveway of my family's home in Ocean Springs, Mississippi as the rain began that evening. As people like to describe it, we "hunkered down" to ride it out: my brother, dad, my maternal grandmother, and me. Oh, and the cats, too. Just a few hours later we were fleeing for our lives. The cats were let out to locate higher ground. They would surely die if locked in the house behind us.
Our story is featured in this book, drawn from the interview that my father (John A. Switzer) did with the Oral History Project of the University of Southern Mississippi. Reading the book gave me chills and I realized that childhood trauma really never leaves a person.
Hearn's book is far from perfect. Some might argue that it's not really "well" written. But I recommend it nonetheless, because it does a great service in recounting and preserving in an easily-accessible way, the stories of average people who almost didn't live through the night and early morning of August 17-18, 1969.
There are some unfortunate inaccuracies that I hope will be corrected if this is reprinted. And the style seems rushed. Perhaps Mr. Hearn was in a hurry to get to press. But, overall, it's a chance for the reader to be inserted into the life-and-death struggle of several people and families. For that, Mr. Hearn has my great appreciation. This book is available in softcover, as was the copy I purchased at a local bookstore.
A Minor Account of a Major Catastrophe.......2005-04-21
Camille was one of three category five hurricanes to strike the United States of America during the 20th Century.
With sustained winds of 200 miles per hour, the second-lowest barometric reading recorded on the face of the earth, and a record storm surge of 24 feet, it came ashore on the Mississippi gulf coast on the night of 17 August 1969. By dawn 131 people were known dead and another 41 were missing, never to be recovered. Communities on the eastern side of the Mississippi gulf coast sustained significant damage; communities on the central and western Mississippi gulf coast were devastated. The remnants of the storm then flashed north, bringing torrential rains that touched off flash floods that claimed another hundred lives in Virginia and West Virginia.
I, all of eight years old at the time, was on the edge of the storm. My family resided in Pascagoula, a Mississippi coastal community near the Alabama border. We evacuated, and although Pascagoula sustained significant damage it was mild in comparison to what we saw when we--like many others--raced to take food, water, and clothing to friends who resided further west. The images are burned into my brain.
For many years I wondered why a historian did not turn attention to the horrors of Hurricane Camille. In 2004 I was pleased to find that one had: Philip D. Hearn, working from documentation at the University of Southern Mississippi, published HURRICANE CAMILLE: MONSTER STORM OF THE GULF COAST. The book debuted with considerable fanfare on the Mississippi gulf coast--but, unlike its subject, just as quickly made a noise like a hoop and rolled away. Consequently I did not come to the book until two years after its publication. Upon reading the book I understood why it failed to satisfy.
Unlike some other reviewers, I do not feel that Hearn is a bad writer per se; it is very clear, however, that he lacks the gift for sustained narrative, and his academic tone undercuts most of the human drama involved. His scope is also remarkably small: excluding preface and end notes, CAMILLE runs to slightly less than two hundred pages in slightly larger-than-usual typeface, and of its seven chapters at least two focus more upon the general history of hurricane strikes and the process of their formation than upon Hurricane Camille itself.
The end result rather like a credible if uninspired master's thesis. It is, at best, a minor account of a major catastrophe--and I found myself repeatedly frustrated with what I considered Hearn's failure to follow up interesting events and details in favor of information that seemed more properly suited to end notes. Still, now and then the personal accounts from which Hearn worked breaks through in a real and very powerful way; Hearn also does, I think, a very effective job in dispelling the myth of the "hurricane party" that was said to have been held at the ill-fated Richelieu Apartments. For these reasons I cannot bring myself to dismiss the book out of hand.
Some thirty years ago Biloxi, Mississippi and coastal cities further west were flattened by Camille. Today, with the advent of casino gaming and the ensuing construction boom, a tourist would be hard pressed to notice anything unusual about the area. But I, who now live in this city, can take you to the beach and point out the island that was split into two sections by the storm; I can take you to the marker, now overgrown with weeds, that notes the point at which the waves of "killer" Camille finally stopped. On the night of 17 August 1969 a monster came out of the sea; those who felt its power, no matter how slightly, cannot forget it; and we still await an account that will do justice to the event.
GFT, Amazon Reviewer
Regrettable.......2004-09-24
Amazingly, Philip Hearn managed to turn seventy oral histories about the most deadly storm in Mississippi's recent history into one of the worst books I've ever read. As a Mississippi native, I heard stories of Camille throughout my childhood. I was mesmerized by the ferocity of the storm and terrified by tales of her destruction. When the Seafood Industry Museum opened on Point Cadet in Biloxi, I was one of the first in line, and I still remember chills I had when viewing the documentary "Camille, She Was No Lady." I had the good fortune to spend my formative years in Wiggins and Perkinston, Mississippi; there I learned history at Charles Sullivan's knee. My father was a colleague of his at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and I spent most of my free time pestering Sullivan for stories as only a twelve-year-old fledgling historian can pester a hero. Both in and out of the classroom my "Mr. Charlie" taught me the importance of discovering our past. As anyone who has the honor of knowing Charles Sullivan will understand, his excitement and dedication changed my life, and made a true historian of me. I will never forget the first time I read Sullivan's (as yet unpublished) manuscript about his own experiences in Camille. Years after I read it I couldn't drive down Highway 90 without seeing ghostlike images of Camille's wrath superimposed on the new condominiums and casinos.
Now, twelve years later, I have completed my formal studies with Sullivan and greatly expanded my historical knowledge at the University of Southern Mississippi where I studied under Drs. Charles Bolton and Curtis Austin, directors of the Oral History Project. One afternoon I went over to McCain Library and listened to some of the histories that Hearn massacred. I laughed, cried, and finally sat in mute disbelief of the stories the survivors told.
As stated in his acknowledgements, Hearn utilized the same oral histories at USM, talked with Sullivan, and viewed the heartbreaking pictures of Camille's aftermath. Somehow he managed to remove all emotion from those captivating accounts. Hearn's prose feels rushed and scattered; his humor attempts to break the tension but is out of context and only manages to distract the reader. Fortunately, the author's choice of photographs is outstanding, but even they only serve to illuminate his uncomfortable prose. Unfortunately, Hearn's book is the only published history of Camille's destruction. It is regrettable that he ruined such a fascinating story.
Been there, done that.......2004-09-11
I was 13 yrs. old when Hurricane Camille slammed into and devastated the MS Gulf Coast in 1969. While I was not actually present on the coast but far inland we still got very high winds and damage. I also remember my Dad was among the many relief workers who went there to try to help. I ordered this book as soon as I found out it had been written, straight from the publisher. I thought it was a great read, and enjoyed it immensely, in fact I read it out loud to my husband while we were on a long road trip and he enjoyed it too. The author did a great job of describing exactly how hurricanes are formed in a clear, easy to read format. I enjoyed all the facts about previous hurricanes and how the word hurricane came to be. The stories by the survivors were more than just who died and who lived, it gave very good descriptions about what they went through to survive, i.e. holding on to something and floating out the window of your 3rd story apartment because the storm surge was 24 ft. high. You can still drive along the coast and see stairs and sidewalks that lead to nowhere even 35 yrs. later. I thought it was a great book.

Book Description
From blue skies to raging hurricanes, from ice storms to droughts, North Carolina's weather varies widely from season to season and from day to day. In this delightful and informative book, Peter Robinson provides a layperson's guide to the state's weather and climate and an introduction to the science that describes it.
What is North Carolina's "typical" weather? How does it vary from the coast to the mountains? How do we forecast it? With dozens of color maps and tables to make understanding easier, Robinson covers big issues such as the role of weather and climate in daily life, severe weather threats and their causes, and the meteorological effects of seasons. He also explains more specific phenomena including the causes of heating and cooling, the effects of acid rain, and the role of groundwater in weather.
Robinson addresses the state's weather history as well as long-term concerns associated with how air pollution affects weather and our health, and he explores why issues of local and global climate change matter. Throughout, he discusses weather in ways that can inform daily life, whether you're planting a garden, building a climate-friendly and energy-efficient home, or choosing a time and place for vacation.

and Floyd. The devastating tornadoes of 1984 and the white Christmas of 1989 are also given justice.
Most of the book is provided in a generalized form of writing,
yet it is done in a very interesting and professional manner. And
what could not be interesting about our weather? With temperatures that have ranged anywhere from -34 to as high as
110 degrees. We have suffered through several major hurricanes,
extreme heat waves and drought,as well as devastating floods. And
we lay claim to one of the widest tornadoes in history-2.5 miles!
Greg Fishel delivers a most intriguing foreward to this book.
This book is a great educational tool for anyone interested in our state`s weather and climate. Also,it serves as a nice keepsake for any weather enthusiasts who are native to our great state.

A Wonderful Collection of Stories.......2002-02-02
These stories were wonderful -- thought provoking, with interesting and original descriptions. Surprising endings, or were some of them beginnings? The plots derive from the characters, all of whom are struggling to make sense of their emotions, thoughts and surroundings. Ms. Bjorneby's voice is rich in intelligence, depth, and nuance. A great read.
Hurricane Season is a GREAT read!.......2001-10-21
Karen Bjorneby has a major talent for clear and intense writing, which makes for extremely compelling stories about people who want things badly but who are dealing with forces far bigger than the circumstances of their own lives. These stories remind me of Dorothy Allison's writing; they're honest and straightforward and they don't shy away from the emotions that churn just below (or above) the surface. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fresh, engaging and unsentimental new voice in contemporary fiction.

Reviewers have likened Susanna Kearsley's mysterious, suspenseful novels to those of Barbara Michaels and Mary Stewart-and praised her 'original and colorful" characters and 'brilliantly managed" plots (The Denver Post). Her newest tale, Season of Storms, evokes the majesty and mystery of the Italian Lake District.. In the early 1900s, in an elegant, isolated villa called Il Piacere, the playwright Galeazzo D'Ascanio lived for Celia Sands. She was his muse and his mistress, his most enduring obsession. She was the inspiration for his most stunning, original play. But the night before she was to take the stage in the leading role, she disappeared. Now, in a theatre on the grounds of Il Piacere, Alessandro D'Ascanio is preparing to stage the first performance of his grandfather's masterpiece. A promising young actress-who shares Celia Sands's name-but not her blood-has agreed to star. She is instantly drawn to the mysteries surrounding the play-and to her compelling, compassionate employer. And even though she knows she should let the past go, in the dark-in her dreams-it comes back.

One of Kearsley's best........2005-08-19
The premise of the novel is this: almost a century ago, the aging poet Galeazzo D'Ascanio penned The Price, a supernatural tragedy, for his muse and mistress, Celia Sands. But the beautiful, youthful Celia who held the lead role disappeared on the night before the premier of the play. Now, Alessandro D'Ascanio intends to restage his grandfather's play: he will build a new outdoors theatre on his lavish, Italian estate, and gather together an ecclectic but outstanding group of theatre people to realize his dream. But for the lead role, he will choose an untried and obscure young actress because of her name, Celia Sands.
Canadian author Susanna Kearsley doesn't write as fast as some of the other novelists, but her novels-when they finally get out-are very fine creations. The quality of the writing tends to slowly creep upon you; soon enough, a particularly poignant scene will wring your heart, a ghostly one, create a hollow feeling in your stomach. I did enjoyed the theatrical setting, the intelligent heroine, and I was mesmerized by the rarified italicized chapters which told the true story of the first D'Ascanio and his Celia. In retrospect, being freed from Kearsley's mesmerizing prose, I can see some plotholes, a few non sequitors, and the slightly rushed ending. Still, Season of Storms was eminently readable.
My favourites by her now stand thusly: Marianna (her first novel and still her best, IMO), The Shadowy Horses, Season of Storms, The Splendor Falls, and Named of the Dragon.
Well . . ........2002-12-31
Although I am a big fan of Ms. Kearsley and her books, this one just didn't grab me the way the others have. I plowed through it anyway, simply because I wanted to give the book a chance. When I had finally finished it, I was happy because the chore was done! Kearsley's other books are much better, especially her first, "Marianna".
What A Great Read!.......2002-11-12
I stumbled onto this book by accident, and I'm glad. This is my first SK book. I took to it right away, but my sister did not. While it was a little different from most action/romances I've read, I fell in love with it so quickly! Alex was one of the best characters ever! Wow! What a great job SK did making this guy irrisistable. Celia was adorable, too.
Part of what sets this book apart from others is that when we meet a character, we're never 100% sure what they're about, who they are, what they stand for.
Celia's friends were absolutely terrific.
This wonderful book proves that you don't have to have graphic love scenes to imagine Alex and Celia falling in love. They were true soulmates.
I Loved it!.......2002-05-31
This is my first read by this author. Season of Storms captivated my full attention. I didn't expect that at all. I don't read a lot of mystery novels but I might now, especially by her. Her writing was beautiful and has a dream like quality to it. It's a very subtle book. It's the kind of book and story that you savor while sipping on something hot and in a big cushy chair. I couldn't put it down!!
She mixed elements of the early 1900s to the late 1900s with ease and I felt as though I were there.
As it so happens, in the early 1900s, a famous playwright, Galeazzo D'Ascanio, wrote a passionate play for his mistress, Celia Sands, a renowned actress. But as it so happens, Celia Sands disappears and never plays the part her lover created for her.
Now, in the late 1900s, enter the namesake Celia Sands (no blood relation-just the name). She is a young women whose career seems to be going no where-that is, until she gets the part of a lifetime. D'Ascanio's very mysterious grandson, Alex, has decided to resurrect the play-and put the modern Celia Sands as it's star.
Along for the ride are some very deep well though characters that you fall in love with and love to hate! They seem to come alive. You can picture what they look like as well as how they acted.
The backdrop is very beautiful and lush villa in Italy. And as the play progresses, the mystery unfolds. Suspicions of not only Alex but also about what happened in the past and odd happenings that occur during their stay.
I don't really know if I'd call this a "mystery" per say, but there was some suspense and a little thriller mixed in. As well as a subtle developing romance between Celia and Alex. The ending is quite a shocker; I had no idea what so ever until I read it. It definitely caught me off guard. Most authors give it away too soon or make it too obvious.
It's not the greatest book ever, and it won't be for everyone; however, there's something about her writing style and her story telling that I just couldn't shake. Her descriptions sucked me in. I had to force myself not read too quickly, I wanted to savor it. To me, it's a real find and I know I will read it again. It's slower paced, but I didn't mind. Maybe I was in the mood, I don't know. But I'm glad I read it and I'm definitely encouraging anyone else to try it!!
A great writer!.......2002-05-24
I've read several of Kearsley's books and this one is now my favorite, even though I love the other ones too. Kearsley did an excellent job of weaving past and present(both were very closely paralleled). The setting and descriptions made me wish that I could go to Italy. In addition, all of the main characters and their relationships with each another were well developed, so much that I felt like I knew them personally. This book was suspenseful and kept me turning the pages. I spent all of my spare time reading this book until I was finished with it. Kearsley also added some supernatural elements to this novel, which were a nice touch. The only drawback was that the ending was somewhat predictable; however, this was minor compared to all of the good points of this book. Overall, it was very well written. Susanna Kearsley is one of the best authors of the romantic suspense genre!
