4 out of 5 stars Throughly enjoyable.......2007-08-21

What A Lady Wants is a keeper. I absolutely love the premise behind this series (four confirmed bachelors making a bet as to who will be the last man standing). Victoria Alexander has written a story that is lighthearted, witty and imaginative without being sappy or silly. If you are looking for a book that is pure fun and won't make you think too hard, give this one a try. I have also read the first book in this series (A Little Bit Wicked) and can't wait for the third book in this delightful series to come out.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful!.......2007-07-09

Victoria scores again! This is a wonderful novel and a wonderful follow up to "A little bit wicked". Victoria's charachters are wonderful, especially her damsels who might think they are in distress but are actually funny, smart and self-sufficent ladies who know exactly what they want and how to goet it.

My only criticism is that she can't produce books fast enough to keep me satisfied! keep them comming! I look forward to the next one!

3 out of 5 stars Cute.......2007-07-03

This is the first book I have read by this author, and though I was not necessarily thrilled with this book, I don't know that I would anticipate her future releases with bated breath. It was cute. Not great, but certainly not the worst I've read. As a matter of fact, I found the first 2/3 of the book rather amusing. But it lost its charm after that, and the heroine went from declaring she would marry the hero to giving up her quest entirely. For no apparent reason. All he did was deny (for the umpteen-millionth time) that he had no desire to be wed. And it suddenly sunk in? The change was too abrupt. Then, again for no apparent reason, she wakes up in the middle of the night determined to have him again. Huh? Now, if she'd doubted herself at all during this time, it might have made her more real to me. As she was written, though, she was too wishy-washy for my taste.

3 out of 5 stars for a certain type of reader.......2007-03-15

If you like the romances where the heroine tricks or coerces the clueless hero into falling in love with her/marrying her, with the assistance of a gaggle of giggling girlfriends, then this is the book for you. For me, it is hard to read the numerous scenes where she has cornered him into doing something that he doesn't want to do, but, once he does it, it supposedly advances their relationship. If you like these kinds of scenarios, this book is for you. Otherwise, I would skip it, because it will drive you nutty.

4 out of 5 stars A great book.......2007-03-08

This is the second book I've read by this author, and technically I bought it on a whim online. Not sure if it was fate but I really enjoyed this book, the pacing was great and the banter between Nigel and Felicity was sharp and witty and laugh out loud in some spots. Ms. Alexander created two very strong and well drawn characters and that is what really makes this book stand out.

2 out of 5 stars boring.......2007-09-29

What a disappointing little book! It took me forever to finish it, mainly because I kept losing interest every 4-5 pages. Don't know why I bothered.

I can't even tell what it was about... the story was so lame. Even the "innovative" sex scenes were lame. Some of them sounded downright unpleasant and unbelievable. The characters were so shallow. Revenge for something I couldn't muster any passion for. Attraction. Sex. That's it.

Having read the other reviews, I expected so much of this book, I was sorely disappointed. Also, it is supposed to be happening in Victorian England, but it felt very Regency. I think the author didn't do any research at all. She must have read a lot of regency romance and decided, "Hey, what the heck... no one would notice anyway..."

Well, I did. I like to take something from books that I read, even if it is an idea, a description, a phrase, a word, an emotion. This book gave me nothing to take with me. A Lady's Pleasure is by far the most superficial book I have ever read.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!.......2007-08-16

I LOVED THIS BOOK! A Lady's Pleasure is Renee Bernard's debut novel. I have to tell you that I am waiting on pins and needles for her next book, Madame's Deception, due at the end of this month.

The sex scenes were awesome. Any book that starts out with sex in the very first chapter is a book that I'm not likely to put down until I've read it cover to cover, which was the case with A Lady's Pleasure. The story was good too. Drake Sotherland and Merriam Everett were both extremely well developed characters. Lots of description and interesting dialogue.

Each scene was set very well with just the right amount of description without giving too much. The secondary characters added to the story without being unnecessary distractions. There was just enough about two of the secondary characters to make you hope for a 2nd book (and luckily there will be one).

5 out of 5 stars HOT.......2007-08-13

This book gets right into it, the first chapter is full of very hot sex which appears quite steadily throughout the story. But typically such steam falls apart without a good story, but fortunately this noval has. In a case of mistaken identity, the lead character Merriam Everett, a shy, conservative young widow, seduces the wrong man in an act of revenge at being called a "whey faced widow". Thus begins the mingling story lines as she goes through her normal daily routines eventually learning she did seduce the wrong man, and as the man she did seduce-Drake Sotherton-tries to figure out who she was. Until they meet and the sparks fly. This book had me chuckling, blushing, and reading on! And underneath it all was the on-going story of Drake and Julian (the man Merriam meant to seduce) - their painful shared past, and Drake's suspicions that somehow Julian and Merriam are in league together. A few times I did find myself skimming through some sex scenes as I really wanted to find out what happened next as 3 or 4 pages of passion was a bit of an interuption to that story. But overall, it more than met it's purpose to entertain! Can't wait to read more of her books!

5 out of 5 stars Discover a new and passionate author who'll leave you breathless.......2007-08-08

If you've loved Lisa Valdez, Candice Hern and Elizabeth Hoyt, then discover a new and passionate author who'll leave you breathless. Merriam Everett is out for revenge against the arrogant lord who disparaged her. For one night only she'll transform herself into a captivating lady of the night and then seduce and discard her unknowing tormenter. But then, "the best laid plans.." and all that, it seems like she might have got the wrong man. Drake Sotherton, The Duke of Sussex has only recently returned to England after a self imposed exile, and like Merriam he's seeking revenge against Julian Clay. His plan is to seduce Clay's mistress to begin then path to his destruction. However though the initial encounter was fierier then he expected he and the lady never exactly exchanged names and now he has to track down the masked temptress to continue his plan. Merriam meanwhile is suffering the joint agonies of mortification and yearning, and when Drake finally finds her and offers her the position of his mistress she throws caution to the wind and embraces a passion that sweeps her up and scandalizes all who know her. Drake cannot reconcile this shy, sweet woman with the position of lover to Julian Clay, and his uncontrollable desire for her threatens to undo all his carefully laid plans. This is fantastic stuff!! Intense, passionate and erotic, Renee Bernard has created a couple beset with secrets but determined to fully embrace their incendiary bond.

5 out of 5 stars Deliciously hot!.......2007-05-13

A fine tale of mistaken identity and sexual discovery. A good story needs to have characters you care about and a good plot line as well as great sex. This is a good story.

This was a great book, that I could not put down. Please do read but if you do, please read in sequence order. It was soooooooo worth it.

5 out of 5 stars Wahida, keep em comin..........2007-07-12

Just like "Thugs and the Who Love Them," I couldn't put down "Every Thug Needs A Lady!" Wahida has done it again! I feel like the characters are my peeps.

The unbelieveable drama and toe-tingling sex continue when Roz "Tash" and Angel find the men of their dreams...best friends Trae and Kaylin "Kay." As professional, college educated women, Tash and Angel can't understand why they've fallen head over heals for two "thugs." Trae and Kay make Tash and Angel the envy of all of the ladies in their social circle. These two couples are on a roller coaster ride to trouble living the lifestyles associated with hustlin for a livin, but their dedication to each other holds them together until the end.

I'm on my way to buy the third sequel, "Thug Matrimony."

I just want to say, "this book will definitely keep you on the edge and wanting more." This is the first book I read from this author and I just beleive me, when I say that in the middle of the book.......I went online and ordered her entire collection. You will not get lost or get bored. It's a page turner if ever I seen one. Please do yourself a favor and pick it up TODAY!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars I love you Wahida!.......2007-06-02

I read these books back when they first dropped original cover and all. Every thug needs a lady picks up from the novel Thugs and the women who love them. In Every thug needs a lady it focuses on Roz and Angel. Roz meets and falls for Trae but also his right hand man, kaylin meets and falls for Angel. Trae and Kaylin are heavy weights in the streets but they are also looking to eventually get out the game. Angel pursuing her law career and is worried about her involvement with Kaylin. Will the boys get out without bloodshed or arrest?
Wahida Clark is a exceptional writer. She is able to give it to you raw, gritty but also make it a great read. It was to ghetto, there wasn't any unbearable ebonics. It was and is a great read. I look forward to reading everything she puts out!

2 out of 5 stars Just ok.......2007-05-23

This book was just ok, it was not what i expected at all. It was very slow and it only got somewhat interesting at the end of the book. After reading all of the reviews on this book I expected it to be much better.

Book Description

Irresistible Force

Darius Carsington is a spectacularly handsome rake with a rare intelligence and no heart, a man who divides his time between bedding loose-moraled women and writing scholarly papers. He finds society's "perfect darlings" exceedingly boring. But there's something intriguing, and not quite perfect, about faultless Lady Charlotte Hayward. He senses a crack under her polished surface, and finding it is a challenge he can't resist.

Immovable Object

Lady Charlotte is so beautiful, charming, and gracious that no one has noticed what an expert she is at Not Getting Married. Early on, she learned a painful lesson about trust . . . and temptation. In the years since, she's devoted her life to being all she ought to be—and she's not about to let a man like Carsington entice her to do everything she shouldn't.

A Splendid Collision

But the rules of attraction can easily overpower the rules of manners and morals, and sometimes even the best-behaved girl has to follow her instincts, even if it means risking it all.

5 out of 5 stars Loved It!.......2007-09-26

I LOVED this book, though I didn't really expect to. I'd seen it here on Amazon before but hesitated to buy it. Then I stumbled across it at the library, read it in less than 24 hours and now just have to buy it to read again. I enjoyed the characters, laughed, cried and ended the book with a sigh of contentment. Truly enjoyable!

4 out of 5 stars Loretta Chase's only real competition is herself.......2007-08-27

Loretta Chase never disappoints. This isn't my favorite book by her, but it is worthy of her - it steers clear of the worst romance cliches, because it doesn't need them in order to build tension or generate heat. The writing is smooth and rich, characters are complex, there's a dose of fierce passion and of humor, too. A relationship between equals, a strong female lead, a good supporting cast.

That being said, it's not Loretta Chase's most powerful book - it doesn't have the sturm und drang of Lord of Scoundrels, or the hijinx and unexpected pathos of Mr. Impossible. It's a romance, not an adventure or a mystery - it takes place almost entirely over a period of a few weeks spent calmly in the country, and the two leads are mature, self-aware people who behave as such. There are complications, lives are changed, but even these earth-shattering events are rather domestic.

But one thing I like about Loretta Chase is that she tries new things. Among books of this kind, the ones that revolve around house parties and match making and the profitiability of country estates, with occasional references to pig breeding and wall hangings, this one is head and shoulders above the rest.

4 out of 5 stars Not Quite Your Usual Romance..........2007-08-16

As my first venture into Chase's works, I found Not Quite a Lady a pleasant experience. Her writing style is somewhat different than what I have experienced with others in this genre - so don't expect your usual romance writing style or typical contrived storylines here.

I found that though I wasn't crazy about the hero, Darius, in the beginning - he did grow on me as the book progressed and he demonstrated - as I expect our heroine also found out - that he had a number of redeeming qualities and a depth of character.

Overall the dialog and banter between the two made for an entertaining read.

3 out of 5 stars Not Quite a Great Book.......2007-08-13

This one started out great, but I have to say I felt the ending was a bit rushed. It felt very anti-climactic. There didn't seem to be much "meat" to the story. I'm a big fan of Loretta Chase and this wasn't a bad book, I'm just a bit disappointed in this one overall.

3 out of 5 stars Dissappointed.......2007-08-06

I have read some other books by Lorretta Chase but this one was kinda dull. I wound up skippin some paragraphs because it was so much thinking and not enough action.

2 out of 5 stars Rather Boring for a Ms. Lauren's Novel...........2007-03-21

I used to think that Ms. Laurens was a brilliant romance novelist & used to buy all of her newly published books, but lately, all of her works R rather boring & uninspired, & unfortunately, this one's no exception either....

2 out of 5 stars Far, far too long.......2006-12-03

This book has the same problem that afflicts most of Stephanie Laurens' books -- it was about a hundred pages too long. The romance plot (Plot A, if you will) just couldn't sustain itself for that long, by that point becoming just absolutely ridiculous that the heroine wouldn't marry (I mean, they've had sex just about every way and everywhere with no thought to birth control -- why NOT marry?), and she didn't have what I feel were suitably compelling reasons to keep resisting (other writers like Eloisa James can write a good "I love you but I can't marry you" reason, Laurens just really can't).

Then, the mystery plot (Plot B) completely died on the table. I had no interest in it, and it just didn't have anything close to the force needed to drive the back end of the story. The book was over on page 300, but it kept going and going for another 100. Don't buy this book -- get it out of the library, and be prepared to put it down early.

2 out of 5 stars great concept awful awful book.......2006-04-16

Who does not love the idea that a bunch of handsome, heroic ex-spies would form a club and just be manly. I know I believed these books would be great especially with all the good reviews. I forced myself through 5 of her books thinking they had to be good with those kind of reviews. Don't do it! All her books contain are love scene after love scene with bad writing, unbelievable and dull plots. I don't know why I thought this book was so bad, I was just so bored. I gave this book two stars only because I loved the idea of the Bar Cynster. For entertaining historical romance you actually enjoy reading try Julia Quinn, Judith McNaught, or Gaelen Foley and save yourself hours that feel wasted.

2 out of 5 stars Bo-oring!!! If you must read, get it from the library. .......2005-07-20

Usually, these sort of books make me stay up all night to finish. I knew that this wasn't going well when I kept thinking, "oh, I should go to sleep" and when I looked at the clock, I realized it was an hour before my bedtime!

The plot is ho-hum and the main characters are quite annoying. Well, Leanora is annoying -- Tristian is not well sketched enough to be annoying. He's just "blah". I had no interest in the two of them getting together - and, frankly, there was no reason for them NOT to get together. The only conflict in the book was the break-ins taking place in their neighborhood and that plot was not compelling at all.

There were certain things I didn't understand -- Leonara just casually walks everywhere by herself, without a chaperone and justifies it by saying she is 26. Well, I'm not history expert but I don't think that the rules were lax on older women back then - most novels set in that period state that only widowed women were allowed freedom to travel without chaperones - and even then it was frowned upon.

The mystery is so-so and not very engrossing - in fact it just detracts from the Tristian/Leanora story. The book is also way too long -- I found myself skimming through pages of dialogue about the mystery, etc.

The reason I have to give it 2 stars is because I did actually finish the book (which I cannot say for all books) and because I enjoyed the premise - 7 men coming back from war and thinking that the Ton is worse than Waterloo.

I will probably may try to read at least one more "Bastion Club" book, but only because I can get them all from my library. I would never buy this set.

4 out of 5 stars THE LADY CHOSEN-Tristan and Leonora-SPOILERS.......2005-02-01

Favorite scene with Leonora-
Going into danger when she wasn't supposed to, then bringing the enemy back to her house to get the truth.

Favorite scene with Tristan-
Confronted by Leonora about the reason he has to marry.

Together-
Going after the enemy at the park in disguise.

What did you like about Leonora-
Her strength and courage, even in the face of danger.

What didn't you like about Leonora-
Her same strength and courage making her unthinking. She can put herself, and the others, in danger by stupidly going where she's not supposed to go. Not wanting to marry. OK with just having sex. Angry with Tristan because of his reason for having to marry.

What did you like about Tristan-
Very intelligent. Able to solve anything. His love for Leonora and his aunts (though he pretends not to want to be near them.)

What didn't you like about Tristan-
Only that he thought of his aunts at first as a duty and a burden.

If I had to cast Leonora, I'd cast Kate Winslet.
If I had to cast Tristan, I'd cast Julian McMahon.

The greatest gentleman privateer of his era, Cliff knows honor demands that he see this beautiful wild child to London and into her socialite mother's arms. And when his passion is finally released, their love can no longer be denied.

5 out of 5 stars My first romantic novel in 15 years and I was unable to put it down until I was finished........2007-09-26

There was something so touching and sweet about this story. I almost missed work because I had been up all night reading it. Amanda is so desperate she offers herself to the governor in exchange for her father's pardon. Her despair, pain and vulnerability are so palpable despite her attempts to hide them behind her tomboysih and defiant exterior. The scene at her father's hanging brought tears to my eyes. Cliff DeWarrene's reaction to her plight and the way he came to her aid won me over. He was truly an honorable man. And he sincerely tried to think of her as an innocent child that needed to be taken care of, offering her his protection without expecting or even accepting anything in return. I found myself laughing out loud when I saw his jealous outbursts while he still denied his feelings for her. Brenda Joyce was very adept at developping these 2 characters and building/evolving their relationship. The sexual tension between them was always there, but she also took the time to build their friendship and their respect for each other. The fact that Cliff still preferred Amanda as "La Sauvage" versus the lady endeared him to me even more. This is basically the story of a gentleman sea captain, an unlikely damsel in distress with a lot of heart and spirit, a love story amid pirates, London's aristocracy, and the Jamaican Islands. What can you ask for more.

Wonderful read !
I have not read such a good novel in months ! And I devour books! Definitely a keeper.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous!!.......2007-05-20

An avid fan of romance novels, I just finished reading A Lady at Last and I absolutely adored this book. It will rank in my top ten amongst the hundreds of romance novels I've read.

The story of Cliff and Amanda is refreshing as the hero is not one of the typical brooding overly aggressive males. Instead he is a pure gentleman fighting his feelings and looking to truly take care of and look after the heroine. She is also a delight to read about as she tries to seduce her gaurdian.

Definitely give this one a read!

5 out of 5 stars At last........2007-05-16

This is an excellent title for this book. I now realize that I have read at least one other of the series and will look for the rest because this book was very readable, the characters were interesting and I love series books. The two main characters in this book made me laugh and cry with them. Lovely book.

3 out of 5 stars Excellent Start .........................................2007-09-15

Lady Beware was very interesting in the beginning but slow in many parts.
It is not a page-turner, but if you like Jo Beverley probably you will like this one.
But, Beware of this romance if beautiful love scenes are important to you because there is just one love scene and it is very mild.

5 out of 5 stars jayinfl.......2007-09-06

I just loved this book. I loved all the Rogues but this one and Dare's story (To Rescue a Rogue) was my favorites. You never know what's going to happen next in this book. I laughed out loud at several times and will surely add this one to my "keepers". If you haven't read all of the Rouges, you need to definitely need to start from the beginning!

5 out of 5 stars A sensual delight with more than a dash of intrigue.......2007-08-11

A brilliant book in the Rogues series, raises the bar to another level. This book is packed with drama, romance and sensual delight, the dark and damaged male character and a brave and courageous heroine combined with the evil threat to them both makes a dynamic mix.
This book is so good you have to read it again soon!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Nice Short Romance.......2007-10-11

I picked this up because it was not a full book and I needed something quick to read and not too involved. I enjoyed this "little" book. It was easy to read, moved right along, well developed characters. Nice romance! Took me about 4 hours to read the entire book. PERFECT!

3 out of 5 stars Average romance with light suspense with an interesting twist.......2007-06-25

It started with a case of mistaken identity; reclusive novelist TS Harrison sends childhood pal Sam to the JFK airport to meet talk show host Bob. Sam meets Bob's niece Ellen, a professor and aspiring actress who has brought her kids down to the city for the summer to try their luck at auditions. Sam doesn't have a chance to correct the mistake before Bob high tails it on his flight. When Sam and Ellen share a limo ride back to the city, she does something out of character, and gets hot and heavy in the back of the limo with the sexy stranger. When he calls and tries to see her again, she rebuffs him. She figures Sam is another heart breaker like her ex and is not prepared to lose her heart to him.

When Ellen reports threatening mail and phone calls to the police, Sam steps in to investigate (and is surprised to discover that she has children). While Bob may be the intended victim, Sam isn't ruling anyone out, as he protects Ellen's family from a stalker while also trying to prove that he's not such a ladies man after all.

Originally printed in limited as a bonus book in a publisher's special, Brockmann's once shelved story gets full print honors ten years later. Brockmann manages to maintain the secret of both the stalker and his intended victim until the end. It's an average stand alone novel, with some steamy passages, but is lacking in character and plot development like her later work. In fact, the back story of characters Sam and TS sound extremely familiar to Sam Starrett (from her SEAL/Team 16 series) and his childhood pal Noah, who plays a significant role in Brockmann's later novel "Gone Too Far." Maybe she got a chance to flesh "Sam" out after all.

4 out of 5 stars Solid romantic suspense.......2007-03-22

Ellen Layne accompanies her uncle Bob (a famous talk-show host) to the airport to meet an elderly relative whose flight is delayed. To pass the time, she checks out the bookstore--and finds herself checking out a hot younger man there, as well. She's embarrassed when he catches her at it, but he's checking her out, too, and tries to get her telephone number. Ellen is tempted, but she's just in New York with her kids for the summer while she's still recovering from a painful divorce. She doesn't need the complication of a younger man, no matter how charming and alluring. She demurs, but fate throws them together again almost immediately.

Sam Schaefer is at the airport on one of his rare days off doing a favor for an old friend, the famous writer T.S. Harrison. Harrison was in discussions with Bob about writing his biography and had agreed to meet him at the airport without checking his calendar first. Realizing he had a family conflict, he enlisted Sam to fill in for him, resulting in a comical case of mistaken identity that Sam has a difficult time clearing up with Bob and his entourage, including Ellen. Ultimately, Sam ends up sharing a very long, steamy limo ride alone with Ellen. By the time they both reach their respective homes, Sam is determined to see more of Ellen, but Ellen decides she's far too vulnerable to the charms of an experienced ladies' man like Sam to risk losing her heart to him.

Once again, fate intervenes despite Ellen's intentions. When threatening letters and phone calls are sent to Bob's home where Ellen and her kids are staying, the real T.S. Harrison recommends his best friend, NYPD detective Sam Shaefer, to provide protection and identify the increasingly violent stalker. Sam's up for the job, and he's also determined to succeed in convincing Ellen that she's the woman for this ladies' man.

This is a solid 3-1/2 star read (3 stars is a good rating for me) with likeable leads and supporting characters, as well as a believable mystery for added tension. As another reviewer has noted, the book was initially published in 1997, but it stands up well and could easily be mistaken for a 2007 release (except for some issues with current airport security). At just over 200 pages, it's a short book, so there are some missed opportunities for character development and does conclude quickly with a few loose ends. But it is certainly recommended as a quick, enjoyable read--possibly while waiting in the airport.

3 out of 5 stars Just so so.......2007-03-08

I'm usually a fan, but this book seemed to be rushed, not nearly as well developed as her usual products. I found it disappointing.

Book Description

When danger threatens both their lives, only love can can save them.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A very special heroine.......2007-06-13

The basic plot line is: "Kit," our heroine has been taught to act like a boy by her father who is involved in a variety of questionable endeavors on the Continent. In this disguise, she is send into Alex's home to spy on him and to gain information about smuggling. Alex quickly figures out that Kit is a girl, not a boy. Kit and Alex fall in love. There relationship is challenged when Alex discovers exactly why she is dressing like a boy, but ultimately (after several struggles) they end up together.

This is a solid 3.5-4 star romance. I thought Enoch does a wonderful job with this heroine. I like her style, her conversations and everything about her. She is fun and likable character. This was the real strength of the story. Plus, her boyish ways allow for a different form of communication with Alex-- it is much more playful and less formal than is typically seen between men and women in regency romances. The only downside of this story, is the typical romance one-- the plot is a little "out there," but then the idea behind these books is escape!

5 out of 5 stars Very Sexy Reissue!.......2007-05-29

Being that I was in elementary school when Lady Rogue was initially released, had it not been reissued, I would have missed out on this sexy and fun Regency romp. Suzanne Enoch is one of my favorite authors, and Lady Rogue has quickly become one of my favorites from her.

Alexander Cale is, in a word, smoldering. His physical description leaves nothing wanting, but more than that, his personality is what makes him so desirable. I loved his sense of duty, in respect to both Kit and his country.

Christine "Kit" Brantley is charming and impish in her role as a young woman disguised as a man. I can easily picture in my mind each of her actions, and I thank Suzanne Enoch's adept characterization and insightfully descriptive prose for this.

The pair's struggle to overcome their separate, but fatefully linked, goals is the backbone of this work. Each has learned in their fields of business to trust no one and watching them work through this to come together in the end was delightful. And their steamy intimate scenes were nothing to scoff at either!

I highly recommend this very sexy reissue for both old fans of Suzanne Enoch's work as well as those looking for an introduction to one of Avon's most talented romance authors.

5 out of 5 stars Fast-paced, fun, loved the characters!.......2007-02-07

I would give this book 6 stars if I could. I guess it comes down to what a person likes in a romance in their particular mood. Generally I happen to love spunky heroines, well-grounded heroes and a face-paced, suspenseful adventure story with humor. I liked the characters even more as the story went along which is a very good sign. There was eventually some sex but it wasn't overdone or underdone. Just a rolicking good story with good romance and no slow periods anywhere. The perfect escape novel.

4 out of 5 stars Lady Rogue.......2007-01-25

I really liked this book the female lead was great
I liked how she kept her great spirit through out the book so many times the female comes in with a bang that fizzles out before the book ends but not here, the male lead was just as enjoyable as the female so if you like strong women and a book with humor then pickup this book.

4 out of 5 stars A beautiful love story.......2006-12-21

Christine "Kit" Brantley is a female spy disguising as a lad. But she is spying for the enemy, aka Napoleon's supporters. Her father deposites her in the safe keeping of the handsome Alex, the Earl of Everton and goes off to arrange a shipment of guns. Alex is no idiot. He realizes Kit is a female almost immediately, and he is fascinated with her. Little by little he comes to know this "brash lad", sensitive, shy woman. Kit is independent and brave and has a sweet innocence about her. What won me over was the beautiful way with which Ms. Enoch describes Alex's growing feelings toward Christine. The ending was a bit stretched, though.
Nevertheless, it was a great read, much better than most regency novels. Recommended.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Liked it from the beginning.......2007-02-12

This book finally made it to the top of my to-be-read pile and I was happy that it did! Fast paced, kept my interest and I read it in one sitting!

1 out of 5 stars Why would Marcus have to buy his own ring back?.......2006-10-02

I shall be brief...why do historical romance authors come up with such stupid concepts for books? Ms. Hawkin's Talisman Ring Series have been hits and misses, the best the first, An Affair to Remember, and to me the worst (prior to this one) was "And The Bride Wore Plaid" because Devon was, in a word, a cad. Seducing woman (especially one's friends sister) with no plans to marry is in poor taste. In this story, the one that should have been the best and brought all brothers back for the story, is just wrong. The premise, that Marcus wants the family ring back that has fallen in to Honoria's hands, is made unbearable by the very simple fact that Honoria knows it rightfully belongs to Marcus so her efforts to force Marcus to purchase the ring are just morally wrong and there is no way to get around that in the story. That is the elephant in the room. One can not get past that.

5 out of 5 stars So Good.......2006-06-29

I loved this book. It was a combination of "Pride and Prejudice", "Little Women", and "A Christmas Carol". I was interested by page 2 and hooked by page 10. Very good character developement and all the characters were loveable. I laughed out loud in a couple spots, which is very rare. I wasn't expecting very much from a 4 star book but I read this in one sitting.

4 out of 5 stars stayed up all night - good book .......2005-07-12

I won't go into the plot because that's already been covered by other reviewers. I really enjoyed this book for a lot of reasons. It reminded me of Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series (and not many books can compare to that) in the sense that there was interaction between various family members throughout the course of the book. There were some scenes with Honoria's family that made me laugh out loud, such as her family's use of "sea language" that they picked up from their brother Ned. Also, George's frog and the problems it causes when it goes missing is the focal point of a very a cute scene in Marcus' home. Marcus and Honoria have a lot of chemistry and the romance between them is very *ahem* heated.

The writing is excellent and kept me engrossed in the story. The reasons I have to give it 4 stars instead of 5 are minor. I hated Honoria's name. Her sister's names were Cassandra, Olivia, and Portia. ANY of those names would have been better than Honoria.

** SPOILER ALERT**

Secondly, I felt that it was odd that Marcus and Honoria didn't acknowledge their passion for each other in any way. They would meet, he would want her badly, and then he'd go his merry way. She comes up with all these things that she wants in return for the ring (including him courting her sister) and never comes up with a plan that has something to do with their attraction? And neither does he? The "battles" were amusing, but somewhat unrealistic, I thought. Considering how much they make out in public places (his carriage, her house, the museum) it seems very rushed when a small kiss and horse accident in the park is what makes them get married. And that, too, near the end of the book. I would rather have had their "forced" marriage to take place earlier and not have to deal with her trying to force him to court her sister. (This seemed rather creepy since he was 39 and her sister was 18 and Honoria was so obviously attracted to him.)

But, overall, I felt that even if the plot didn't always take the direction I wanted, it was a well-written, sensual romance and a fan of Julia Quinn, Sabrina Jeffries, etc. would be happy to give up a few hours of sleep to read this book.

4 out of 5 stars Indulge & Be Delighted............2005-07-04

Again Karen Hawkins, delights us with another entrancing tale surrounding the St Johns talisman ring..(her 5th book of the Talisman Ring Series)..
Marcus St. John, the Marquis of Treymount and Miss Honaria Baker-Sneed are the perfect foil to each other, and you will enjoy this book from start to finish.....
Honaria is more than willing to sell the ring to Marcus, but will he pay the price????????...Read on, dear ones....
