Clear guide for creating effective presentations .......2007-08-24
Microsoft PowerPoint changed the world of presentations by simplifying the process of creating a computerized slide show. Alas, over time people started squeezing too much information into every slide and using the preinstalled generic titles. PowerPoint's simplicity let people forget the purpose of presentations: to persuade or to inform without being boring. Cliff Atkinson shows you a creative way to build a good presentation without falling into the PowerPoint template trap - tell a story instead. At present, he provides a free template, storyboard formatter and story guide at sociablemedia.com that adds value to the book, which refers to these resources repeatedly. We recommend this to anyone who gives presentations.
I've used this method and it works.......2007-07-25
I borrowed it from the library and I am going to purchase it for my personal business library. I think that this is a great resource book. I decided to try this method since I do a presentation about once a month to pharmacists. This book helped me to organize my thoughts and present the material in a logical manner. I am in the health care industry and the people I present to are used to seeing bullet points BUT they are bored with it. For those that think the information here won't work, I say give it a try before dismissing it. You may find that your audience doesn't want as many bullet points and facts as you think and that you are a breath of fresh air in doing something new and innovative with your presentations. And remember you can put all of that information from your bullet points in the notes pages and print that out for them.
Don't understand what others see in it.......2007-07-07
I was disappointed having bought this book based on good reviews, so here's my review:
1. The author provides just one tool for one particular type of presentation: "pitch an idea to your bosses". The tool is a 3-act presentation using few words and more graphics and presenter narration.
Although a good tool for some presenters and some presentations, I can only see myself using this in 10-20% of my presentations.
2. Because the author refuses to explore other methods, the book becomes very repetitive and too detailed going on about the same points all the time.
3. Because of this, this is certainly not a book to keep for reference.
4. ...unless you are a total PowerPoint novice and computer-illiterate and want to read a step-by-step instructions about how to resize and crop images in PowerPoint, etc.
5. This is the first book by Microsoft Press I read and I was shocked at the obvious attempts throughout the book to advertise other marginally-related Microsoft products.
The book description says: "Targeted for intermediate to advanced level users". I would never recommend this book to anyone but absolute beginners and even then there must be better books.
The intermediate user should really just browse the first couple of chapters to get the basic idea (1. set the scene 2. show the conflict 3. resolve the conflict) in a bookstore and then decide for himself if he really wants to waste money on something which can easily be summarized on one page.
Better Presentations.......2007-07-05
I've been doing presentations since the BP (before Powerpoint) era and I have a structure that I've used since the beginning. This book caused me to rethink my approach, and, after using it on several recent presentations, I have to say it is a change for the better. Highly recommended if quality communications is your goal.
a very, very helpful book on creating effective presentations.......2007-07-03
While I didn't adopt the 3 > 3 approach Atkinson suggests, I really took to heart his idea of replacing wordy, boring slides with those with only a title (a concept, expressed as a sentence) and high-impact relevant graphics. As a result, I created a six-hour workshop (on personal productivity) that contained a total of five bullets (out of 130 slides). I also created - from the same slide show - a prose booklet that participants take home. Very useful.

Book Description
The fifth edition of the book is the most major revision yet. Written in a friendly and engaging manner, Biopsychology clearly presents the fundamentals of the study of the biology of behavior but makes the topics personally and socially relevant to the reader.
Four interwoven themes support the major recent developments in the rapidly changing field of biopsychology. Thousands of new references and dozens of new topics have been added to this edition, making Pinel's discussion of and focus on the human element easy and interesting to read.
For those interested in physiological and biological psychology.
Customer Reviews:
Cerebral topography and much more - this is the best.......2007-04-30
I have just read Pinel's excellent work called BIOPSYCHOLOGY. Illustrated by his partner (sic) Maggie, superbly, and contributing greatly to the success of the book as a great teaching medium in neuropsychology and neurology. It is a textbook for undergraduates in Psychology and assumes little in previous physiology and anatomy, using extensive explanations of vocabulary and concepts. Frankly, you might as well buy this one instead of the Pinel's brain coloring book. It will cost more but you will get a lot more out of it along with the same high quality of illustrations necessary to understand this challenging subject. John Pinel has an engaging writing style, some surprising personal anecdotes, and many case histories. I highly recommend BIOPSYCHOLOGY.
ha, ha!!.......2007-04-03
Ha, ha!! I have to put in my 2 cents after reading the review by Sergiu P Codreanu. The section on sleep was one of the ones that was not assigned in my biopsych class, and for good reason. All the information Pinel uses is from the 1970s, and is not all research. Some of it is just reporting of anecdote. I was so amazed after I read Pinel's comments that I contacted a student working on a PhD in circadian rhythms, who said that the cited material was all either urban myths or discredited research. So, some parts of the book are not only worthless, they're counterfactual!! Just what you want in a textbook!! (Oh, by the way, did you know that heroin addicts are all just whiners because withdrawal isn't any worse than a case of the flu? Yeah, that's right, you can experiment with drugs because the side effects are all over-blown.)
As to the rest, the fact that Pinel constantly delves into the details of single research papers leaves the impression that the book is speculative rather than conclusive. It also made it, for me, hard to follow the material. I like to skim first to get an overview of the reading, but you can never tell with Pinel what's going to be an important discussion and what's not.
I hated this book and learned far more about biopsych after reading "Animals in Translation" the summer after the course was over. I only give 2 stars because the graphics are good. Someone needs to steal Pinel's graphics and put them in a decent, accurate textbook.
Oh, and one more thing: the 5th edition is almost exactly the same as the 6th edition. My instructor really tried to twist my arm saying she didn't want me to miss out on any updated info in the new edition. So, after getting my used 5th edition, I went through the book chapter by chapter and section by section. The books are the same, with the exception of 2 page numbers!! What a scam!
Biosych Short cuts Review.......2007-02-03
The book was in good condition, but i returned it because it wasn't what i wanted. I wanted the actual txtbook.
Love the book but CD needs work.......2006-12-13
I absolutely loved this book. It really made learning my class material a more pleasureable experience. However, BEWARE of the practice quizes on the CD. They don't work correctly. Here and there, the answer marked correct is wrong and it doesn't tally your score (which is easily fixable by paying attention). But, I have to wonder if I got something wrong on one of my tests as a result of the CD answers being wrong. So, be careful with the CD.
The book however is informative and explains the material in an understandable manner as long as one has some prev knowledge of psychology at the intro level.
He even includes cognitive neuroscience in almost every chapter which biases me because I work in that field.
So, all in all, book is great but watch out for the CD.
CD is self-congratulatory and virtually content-free .......2006-02-19
While I agree with other reviewers that the text is good and the graphics in the text are outstanding, the CD that accompanies the book is a shocking waste of time.
Pinel has videotaped himself awkwardly addressing his imagined readers and foists these segments on the user at odd points throughout the CD. Each chapter contains a set of flash cards, a single multiple choice quiz, and a list of supplemental readings. The flash cards are of some use, the quiz doesn't provide correct answers for missed questions and yields only a superficial evaluation of the student's performance, and the list of readings is short (three or four citations) and without Web links.
One has the impression that the CD was included because it's de rigueur for college texts in the $100+ price category these days. Neither Pinel nor his editor seems to have any idea what content would actually be useful on a CD, e.g., a variety of quiz types, pre- and post-tests with specific reading remediations in the text for missed questions, animations of text content (rather than silly visual-space-ship-tracking exercises), Web links to supplemental material, and so on.

Book Description
Tracy Kidder is a winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the author of the bestsellers
The Soul of a New Machine,
House,
Among
Schoolchildren, and
Home
Town. He has been described by the Baltimore Sun as the “master of the non-fiction narrative.” This powerful and inspiring new book shows how one person can make a difference, as Kidder tells the true story of a gifted man who is in love with the world and has set out to do all he can to cure it.
At the center of
Mountains Beyond Mountains stands Paul Farmer. Doctor, Harvard professor, renowned infectious-disease specialist, anthropologist, the recipient of a MacArthur “genius” grant, world-class Robin Hood, Farmer was brought up in a bus and on a boat, and in medical school found his life’s calling: to diagnose and cure infectious diseases and to bring the lifesaving tools of modern medicine to those who need them most. This magnificent book shows how radical change can be fostered in situations that seem insurmountable, and it also shows how a meaningful life can be created, as Farmer—brilliant, charismatic, charming, both a leader in international health and a doctor who finds time to make house calls in Boston and the mountains of Haiti—blasts through convention to get results.
Mountains Beyond Mountains takes us from Harvard to Haiti, Peru, Cuba, and Russia as Farmer changes minds and practices through his dedication to the philosophy that "the only real nation is humanity" - a philosophy that is embodied in the small public charity he founded, Partners In Health. He enlists the help of the Gates Foundation, George Soros, the U.N.’s World Health Organization, and others in his quest to cure the world. At the heart of this book is the example of a life based on hope, and on an understanding of the truth of the Haitian proverb “Beyond mountains there are mountains”: as you solve one problem, another problem presents itself, and so you go on and try to solve that one too.
“
Mountains Beyond Mountains unfolds with the force of a gathering revelation,” says Annie Dillard, and Jonathan Harr says, “[Farmer] wants to change the world. Certainly this luminous and powerful book will change the way you see it.”
From the Hardcover edition.

This is one amazing guy.......2007-10-09
I actually listened to this as a book on tape, but bought the book version as a present. In fact, it was recommended to me by another friend. I found it well written and the subject very interesting.
An Amazing Man.......2007-10-04
This book is inspiring but troubling as well. I am a nurse and find his ideas of medicine/poverty to be right on target. Fighting the system is what is hard, he manages to do so at least in his areas of clinical work. His take on poverty and the world economic systems while not new, is seen through the eyes of a scientist and an anthropoligist which gives it a slightly new twist. For anyone interested in a larger world view I would recommend this book. Dr. Farmer is a unique man and his efforts, where ever he is, to change the world's systems is a challenge to us all.
Very Good.......2007-09-25
Although I had to read this book for a mandatory assignment, it was not a labored read. The author writes in a way that allows the reader to continue reading easily and endlessly until the book is finished, or stop whenever the reader needs a break. The story is eye-opening and enlightening while arousing feelings of anger towards the governments overseas conduct with "democracy" and aiding big business. The tale is capturing and the read is light. The only reason it wasn't a five star is because I wasn't very fond of the assignment.
Awesome.......2007-09-15
Kidder's biographical account of the life and work of Dr. Paul Farmer is moving and munumental and reads like a novel---a compliment from me. The determination of one man supported by competent and trusted colleagues is an awesome monument to the power of the human spirit. Also opens American minds and hearts to the povery lying just off our borders in Haiti. Kidder's narrative is superbly told and presented most effectively with a plot line that moves in and out between past and present. Compact, concise and compelling.
Inspirational.......2007-09-05
It's wonderful that one man can turn his passion into something that benefits so many!

Book Description
Upon completion of study with Beginnings & Beyond, students will have an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of early childhood education?from its history to present issues and future trends. They will appreciate the emphasis on multiculturalism and NAEYC?s developmentally appropriate practice. This approach promotes a ?both/and? viewpoint, maintaining that there is more than one correct way to care for and educate young children. The text focuses on this viewpoint in discussions of early literacy, spiritual development, discipline, diversity and anti-bias strategies and family relationships. Beginnings & Beyond also stresses the importance of maintaining an awareness of each child?s needs and interests by featuring such concepts as multiple intelligence, ecological theory and NAEYC?s Code of Ethical Conduct. The use of a variety of sidebars, chapter activities, integrated technology and other extras enhance the student?s interest in and retention of the material.

Don't be an American ........2007-03-04
I have used this book for two different child development classes now. If I read abut being culturally sensitive (which to the authors apparently means forget you are an anglo saxon christian american) I will truly be ill. I'm all for accepting everyone for what they are, and abhor racism, but come on, are we supposed to forget that we may be Christian white americans???? The book seems to want us to forget holidays, in case you may offend one person somewhere along the line, and wants you to accept it as okay if some children are brought late to class, because in their culture, being late is okay??? Please.
A wonderful resource for parents and educators.......2006-11-10
I purchased the book for a child development class. I use it constantly for evaluating program, activities and observations of children for educational purposes. It's a great reference.
A Wonderful, Refreshing Child Development Book.......2003-09-07
Finally, a book that offers sensible and realistic approaches to child development which departs from "mythical" ideas of past and archaic culture. Luckily, this volume isn't afraid to address the homogenous fallacies that have plagued our society and discusses significantly the exploration of truly modern theories embraced around the world. People of all walks of life, education, and backgrounds will rejoice in an important concept that this book teaches: genuinely nurturing children as opposed to treating them like pets.
Still the Best.......2002-10-18
Beginnings and Beyond is still the best Early Childhood Education text out there.
Moral people beware.......2002-08-21
If you have a conservative, moral or Christian bone in your body, this book will sicken you beyond your wildest imagination. If you fall into any of the above described categories, then this book will classify you as a "European male," or of "European Ancestory". This book preaches strongly a so called "diversity" but if you are a white male the "diversity" of opinions stops. (unless of course you decide to agree with the author.) And if you are a Catholic, you have even more to digest, as the book reaks of anti-Catholicism.

Product Description
What is WebSphere? is the reference you need to start understanding, managing, and capitalizing on an IBM based, WebSphere infrastructure..... As a developer, mentor and technical trainer, the author, Cameron McKenzie, has been preaching the virtues of WebSphere for years. However, in his sermons, the same questions keep coming up, over and over again..... What is WebSphere? tackles those questions in a funny, informative and easy to understand manner. This book is the best tool around for demystifying IBM's middle-tier technology..... What is WebSphere? tackles those 'need to know' questions to which both WebSphere soldiers and J2EE neophytes need to have the answers..... If you want to learn about WebSphere in a hurry, but you don't want to read a 700 page textbook that is littered with unreadable code, this is the book for you. In fact, the author promises right off the bat to demystify WebSphere without throwing all sorts of HTML and Java code in your face. Of course, the author breaks that promise on about half a dozen pages, but the sentiment remains..... Whether you're a DBA, a senior systems analyst, a project manager, or a Java developer, there is knowledge in this book that you absolutely need to have..... The sections on demystifying J2EE and the WebSphere runtime environment will empower project managers to make more effective management decisions..... The section on connection pooling and JDBC management will enlighten DBAs..... The advanced sections on WebSphere classloaders, Java Naming (JNDI) and session management will enable developers to better leverage the services afforded to them by the WebSphere Application Server..... And the sections on the WebSphere runtime will help J2EE architects make more enlightened infrastructure decisions..... It doesn't matter who you are - if you are using WebSphere, you need the knowledge contained in this book! Order your copy now!
Customer Reviews:
Not enough for your money !.......2007-09-05
OK, so I know more about Websphere than before I read the book. It was simple to read and understand. It cleared up alot of questions and broke down Websphere to basics. But it left me hanging in different areas like MQSeries for the mainframe and distributed systems. The book is only 270 pages with a page size 5 1/2 X 9", that means if it had more standard size pages like 8 x 10, it would probable be around 220 pages, which is like primer-size. In otherwords $73, for a primer is way too much. If you're in IT Audit, this book won't help.
Great book *** Easy read *** Friendly Author *** Highly recommended ***.......2007-09-05
For anyone who has been thrown into a world of WebSphere and IBM middle-tier development, it is easy to become overwhelmed. Pretty soon, you're thrown into a world of SOA, session management, classloading configurations, Servlet and JSP develpment, worlkload management, portal servers and scalable hardward choices. It's pretty overwhelming, and that's exactly why a book like this one just seemed to be calling out to me.
Well, I was pleasantly surprised with the book I received, as I was expecting a somewhat more technical and overly verbose textbook that what I got. Instead, the book is written extremely well, and with a very funny and casually spoken flow. All of the core concepts that revolve around a Websphere architecture and environment are covered in good, but not excruciating, detail, and the explainations are often funny, and always easy to understand.
Anyone looking at having to work with a Websphere infrastructure, be it as a manager, developer, administrator or salesperson should definitely get their hands on a copy of this book. While it doesn't cover every possible thing in the Websphere world, it does cover the all of the key pieces that you need to know in order to look and sound knowledgeable.
My only complaint was the price, which is a little steep, but I guess that's just par for the course for IBM related books. I bought from the publisher through amazon, and got the book at a good discount. The seller was also the author, and actually responded quickly to a couple of my emails. It's nice to get that type of personal service.
Highly recommended.
Great intro to J2EE and WebSphere.......2007-08-23
This book is an excellent introduction for a manager or developer willing to understand WebSphere and the J2EE specification from a very high perspective. It's not a deep introduction, the book just covers the most important topics but it does in a funny but yet illustrative form. I read the book in a couple of days, it's short and fast-paced.
My only complain is the price you have to pay for the book. I don't think it worths all the bucks you pay even when you may find it is a great book. But if you have the money and you don't mind the book is short and the presentation quite simple, then go for this book, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
A decent little read, but ..........2007-06-25
Let me say at the outset that I like the book very much. The author writes in an amusing but informative style, and a lot of the buzzword topics of J2EE are covered nicely.
I was disappointed though with:
(a) the marketing of the book: demystification, yes, but to a point. Few examples, and some topics (like EJBs and JMS) are very "light-on".
(b) the price of the book: $73 is expensive for any textbook.
I think if the prospective buyer understands that this book is totally non-technical, very short, and is virtually a "Websphere for Dummies" book then they'll rate it 5 stars. If you want something to explain Websphere and J2EE concepts with greater significance then look elsewhere.
Glue for the puzzle.......2007-06-13
I have found this text to be outstanding in consolidating the many technologies which Websphere brings to the table. I am fairly new to these technologies, and the author explains the topics very well.
This is one of the rare times where reading a technical text book resulted right away in an ephiphany. The text explains the information so well, and the read is so easy that I feel my confidence growing as I read. Just a really great book for explaining WebSphere in a practical manner.

Customer Reviews:
Wow what a book.......2007-08-15
this has to be one of the most facinating books I've ever read, William Buhlman really knows this subject well, thank you Mr. Buhlman for a
fantistic book, I can't wait to start my own journey, hope to see you out there!!!
Repetitive But Highly Recommended.......2007-08-01
The bad: (1) very repetitive. (2) puts journal entries in there that are NO WAY actual entries... it's as if he just needed a way to mix up the otherwise rather dull text. (3) states things as fact a bit much... no discussion about, say, maybe these experiences are just lucid dreams with excellent recall? (That's what I view them as until such time as I can experience it all for myself).
The good: if you want to have an OBE or lucid dream, he gives a zillion different things to try: more suggestions of techniques than I've seen in any other single book... (not that I've read them all, mind you). For this reason, it's highly recommended: let's face it: you're probably looking for a book that will help you have an OBE... I think this book will help you in that pursuit more than probably just about any other single book out there.
The Best "How To" Book for Your Traveling Experience.......2007-07-08
William Buhlman has not only written a book that captivates you from the start with his own fantastic experiences of out-of-body travel, he has taken great care to give end of chapter points that help the reader remember the important stuff.
Buhlman approaches his subject with a positive thrust, not with any of the scary warnings that some other writers use. He clearly knows "who he is" and helps the reader come to understand that we are ALL powerful Beings that can do what he has done. He says right off that we do create our own experiences, so we must think positive to create a positive experience.
Chocked full of interesting and mind stretching experiences, this little book is devoid of extra padding that is useless to a reader. Buhlman sums up his final chapters with guided How To information, but also encourages the reader to explore even beyond the writer's experiences. He firmly believes that "the world is your oyster" and you can create a wonderful, exciting life beyond the veil of flesh that we live here in the 3D world.
One of my library treasures, this book is a goldmine of information.
the ultimate secret! no f---ing way! hahaha woooow!.......2007-06-19
dude!!!!!!! how in the f--k is it possible for us to be able to do this?!! i dont think we are "just human beings"! my god, what exactly in the hell are we?! the main thing i cant stop thinking about is how does the entire world not know? I dont care how intellectual one may think they are; after this experience you will feel like you were an ape. hey, but this sh-t does get very scary tho, i must admit. there's a section in this book that aims on helping to conquer your fears.
un-be-f---ing-lievable!
woked for me.......2007-05-16
I baught this book several years ago and did have some results with lucid dreaming and out of body. Hope it works for you.

Book Description
Men are right. The “relationship talk” does not help. Dr. Patricia Love’s and
Dr. Steven Stosny’s How to Improve Your Marriage Without Talking About It
reveals the stunning truth about marital happiness:
Love is not about better communication.
It's about connection.
You'll never get a closer relationship
with your man by talking to him like you
talk to one of your girlfriends.
Male emotions are like women's sexuality:
you can't be too direct too quickly.
There are four ways to connect with a man:touch, activity, sex, routines.
Men want closer marriages just as much as women do,but not if they has to act like a woman.
Talking makes women move closer;
it makes men move away.
The secret of the silent male is this:
his wife supplies the meaning in his life.
The stunning truth about love is that talking doesn’t help.
Have you ever had this conversation with your spouse?
Wife: “Honey, we need to talk about us.”
Husband: “Do we have to?”
Drs. Patricia Love and Steven Stosny have studied this all-too-familiar dynamic between men and women and have reached a truly shocking conclusion. Even with the best of intentions, talking about your relationship doesn’t bring you together, and it will eventually drive you apart.
The reason for this is that underneath most couples’ fights, there is a biological difference at work. A woman’s vulnerability to fear and anxiety makes her draw closer, while a man’s subtle sensitivity to shame makes him pull away in response. This is why so many married couples fall into the archetypal roles of nagging wife/stonewalling husband, and why improving a marriage can’t happen through words.
How to Improve Your Marriage Without Talking About It teaches couples how to get closer in ways that don’t require “trying to turn a man into a woman.” Rich in stories of couples who have turned their marriages around, and full of practical advice about the behaviors that make and break marriages, this essential guide will help couples find love beyond words.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-10-09
My wife and I have read several relationship books, this by far spoke volumes to both of us. We wanted a relationship tune-up and we got it. And no, we don't have to talk much about it, the content speaks for itself and we both feel more understood.
A really good approach to helping marriage.......2007-09-22
This book was recommended by a friend. I liked it so well I bought copies for all five of my children (all married), and copies for some other people too. It has some very basic concepts well put. It is especially good for situations where there is reluctance to go to marriage counseling, showing that the individuals in the relationship can help the relationship better if they understand the challenges facing the other person.
Helpful Facts.......2007-06-27
As someone who is usually in some spiritual conversation about marriage and relationships, this book has been so helpful. The concrete differences between the sexes are important to know and not try to fix. The second half of the book starts out with compassion being the answer. It is the only answer.
I Love It. I gave it away and have to buy a new copy for myself
Required Reading.......2007-05-23
This is the best explanation of the differences of how men and women think. This should be required reading for ALL high schoolers. Absolute Required Reading for all couples comptemplating marriage !!!
A MUST for all married couples !!!
What great insights to improving your relationship.......2007-05-15
As a couple counsellor I have found the insights in this book the most refreshing information for years. It makes so much sense and is so simple yet so profound. anyone wanting to create a safer and more intimate relationship must read this book.

Book Description
At the young age of thirty-three, Nancy Davis was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The finality of the neurologist's prognosis was devastating: within a year she would be confined to her bed and, at best, able to push the buttons on her television's remote control. Rather than accept a hopeless prognosis, Nancy learned about her illness and, in turn, created a new life for herself with a new health regimen and an expanded range of therapeutic options. In Lean on Me, Nancy shares her deeply personal story and provides a step-by-step guide for taking charge of your own health care in the face of life-threatening disease. Each step offers readers the strategies and strength to carry on when they are feeling overwhelmed and the concrete tools for actively seeking and receiving the best treatment. In the face of a medical crisis, Lean on Me shows how to navigate the health care waters, find hope, take positive action, and celebrate progress -- and supplies authoritative information that can save your life or the life of a loved one.

Customer Reviews:
Best Book on the Islands.......2007-10-08
I have been to Oahu several times prior to obtaining this book. I found it to be most helpful, giving you all the places to visit. The description of the beaches, hikes, attractions, etc. is very accurate. This is an excellent book to plan a vacation to your island paradise trip.
Not my favorite of Doughty's books.......2007-09-07
We purchased this book because we were quite pleased with the Kauai and Maui books, but weren't as impressed with this book. This may be because our Oahu trip was our first to Hawaii with children, and these books aren't especially tailored to a family vacation. More descriptions of family-friendly events, more restaurant and hotel reviews and less really-off-the-beaten-path sites would have been preferred for our family vacation. However, if you are looking for a book that tells you more about the hidden Oahu, this is probably for you. As with the other books, the author is candid and fair.
A MUST for any Oahu vacation.......2007-08-21
By far, one of the best travel series I've read- I wish Wizard publications covered the entire world with their practical, tell-it-like-it-is approach to getting the most out of your time in the islands. The pictures were on par with the DK Eyewitness Guides (my favorite series until I stumbled upon this one!) and the maps were detailed and easy to follow. In addition to the fantastic reviews and recommendations in the book, the website provides additional information that is worth checking out, and that's entirely free! I would insist that any Hawaii traveler consider this Wizard Guide as an essential travel companion.
Outstanding Resource.......2007-08-07
Oahu Revealed was an excellent source of info for our vacation. We saved a lot of money and avoided some hassles based on the help from this book.
Highly recommended!
the most valuable thing I bought for our honeymoon.......2007-08-06
Torn and worn out now, this book has all your typical travel advice, really good maps too. However, the in-depth commentary on the sites and activities were excellent!!....Things I did not find in the other two books I purchased. I would reccommend this book to anyone. -Ken

Book Description
Would you like to save yourself the indignity, inconvenience and foul taste of modern diet fads? Are you sick and tired of frittering away your money on heart medications that leave you feeling more wretched than ever? Do you spend frequent, precious hours jogging or pounding away at the gym? And despite all of this effort, are you still fatter and weaker than you want to be?
Then it's time to abandon the Modern Gospel of low-fat food and long-duration exercise as a path to heart health. We need the very opposite, says Al Sears, M.D. in The Doctor's Heart Cure. According to Dr. Sears, heart disease continues to be America's biggest killer - and obesity has reached epidemic proportions - because of the fad for low-fat diets and despite aerobics.
Your heart's salvation lies in reengineering the diet and exercise habits of our hunter-gatherer ancestors to fit our modern culture. What does this entail? To build a strong and resilient heart, says Dr. Sears, engage in brief, explosive bouts of intense exercise. Consume a diet rich in high quality fat, pasture-fed meat, free-range dairy, wild-caught fish and liberal helpings of low-glycemic fruits and vegetables. Avoid grain-based starches as best you can. And take appropriate supplements to counteract the nutritional deficiencies of modern produce.
As Director of The Center for Health and Wellness, an integrative medicine and anti-aging clinic in south Florida, Dr. Sears has used this plan to help more than 15,000 patients successfully reverse heart disease, build stronger hearts, manage their weight and abandon their heart medications. In The Doctor's Heart Cure, for the first time, Dr. Sears reveals his entire, proven program, so you too can safely build an impregnable heart.

Compelling read.......2007-09-30
This book providers the information the reader needs to know.Backed up with footnotes. It definately has a possitive impact.
Very Interesting.......2007-06-21
This book talks about some of our more important concerns: our health, our food and our lives. I'm used to read and think about what I read, to compare it with other sources. Dr. Al Sears has made a great job by showing lots of researchs to add to the credibility of his words. I'm slowing modifying my habits, so that I can follow his advices.
PACE yourself.......2007-06-13
I found this book engrossing and what Dr. Sears has to say is very useful and practical. I am trying to use the PACE exercise program with some success although I am uncertain about the fat burning as I sleep. His food diet is just good sense and backed up by many health "authorities", so I think this book from cover to cover is a winner.
A Good Book for Beginners.......2007-05-13
I did not learn anything that I didn't already know from this book. I am, however, one who is involved with continuous nutritional tune-ups and physical fitness. The advice and techniques are similar to those that
body builders already use. As I said in my title, this is a good starter book.
Satisfied.......2007-05-06
The book was very informative. However, with all the health and diet books I have read, they all seem to be similiar in many of the subjects. I just have to siphen out the parts that I believe and try to apply them in my daily life. It was very well written but like all books, you cant agree with everything. I was satisfied but not overwelmed. Thanks.
