Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Customer Reviews:
Ms. Foley has written better.......2007-06-11
I am a great fan on Ms. Foley's writing, and while the book was not poorly written per se, the characters were not compelling. I am in no way adverse to an espionage type romance, but how on earth the Puritanical Alice was paired with Lord Lucifer (Lucien) was beyond me.
Alice was too prim, too proper, too naive, and rather annoying. Very annoying, even.It seems very easy to create a Stupid Illogical Heroine. To illustrate this- Alice witnesses the death/murder of a Russian spy, then afterwards when Lucien warns her to stay away from London because her life is in danger, she responds angrily that all he does is lie, and why should she take his word. (I'm paraphrasing). I mean really you imbecile !
There ought to be a rating system for these blockhead heroines.
Book #2 in this series.......2007-05-19
I read Lord of Ice (Book #2) first and then this one. I understand that The Duke is actually Book #1. I enjoyed this book. It kept my attention, was easy to read and follow. I liked both main characters in this story, but I prefered book #2 (Damien and Miranda's story). This book was filled with spy "stuff," espionage, secrets, orgie parties (to gain secrets). It was set in the time of Napolean's capture to Elba and the time when the America's White House was burned to the ground. It is worth reading and romantic.
Second book in Gaelen Foley's Knight series.......2007-01-19
Alice Montague's brother died in the war and asked her to care for the wife and son he left behind. Alice dotes on her nephew, Harry, and does her best to keep her wayward sister-in-law, Caro, from not making a spectacle of herself and her brother's good name. What she cannot control is Caro's attempts to seduce the Knight twins, Damien and Lucien, with the hopes that one of them will propose. When she goes off to the country with Damien, leaving her sick child at home, Alice chases after her to make her come home and be a mother to her son. What she doesn't plan on is meeting, and falling for, the dashing Lord Knight and becoming involved in the secrets that surround his life.
In the second book in the Knight series we meet the younger of the twins, Lord Lucien Knight. Lucien, known to his friends as Lucifer, works as a spy for the Crown and is involved with all sorts of illicit activities. His life has long been a dark place after being kidnapped and held hostage by the French and tortured for five weeks. Since then, he has been consumed with revenge for the only one of his tormentors who he was not able to kill, Claude Bardou. When he learns that Bardou is in England and working on a plot to make British citizens suffer, Lucien becomes so consumed with revenge he forgets about the beauty he could have with Alice. He has to make a choice--love or revenge.
Alice and Lucien are an interesting couple and are on opposite sides of a number of issues, which always makes for a great romance. But I wasn't that intrigued by either of them, which made it hard to root for them when difficulties sprung up that kept them apart. Lucien's past history and the darkness surrounding his lif made it so difficult for him to seem like someone who would fall in love. Alice, Miss Goody Two Shoes, seems so prim and proper so it's difficult to see her falling for a blackguard like Lucien. One of my favorite parts of this book was their interactions with young Harry, and how both of them seemed like they would be good parents together, but to see him turn around and kill without a qualm just didn't seem to fit in with that sweet persona. All in all, their relationship just didn't seem plausible, so as well written as it was, I couldn't really buy it. That being said, Gaelen Foley is a star and she hasn't written a bad word in her life. I still think this book is worth reading, especially if you read the first Knight book "The Duke," which is one of my all time favorite romances.
2nd in the Knight Miscellary series - good read.......2007-01-02
There are longer review and summaries of this book, so I will be very brief. It is an entertaining and easy read. You will like the hero and heroine in this heartwarming, but somewhat dark love story. It is somewhat predictable, but from a purely entertainment viewpoint it succeeds very well. Read The Duke first in the series and then this one. Lord of Ice follows.
An Okay Read.......2006-08-12
Lord Lucien Knight has a problem. He has an intruder in his house that may thwart his carefully laid plans. Revell Court is an estate Lucien inherited from his father, which he converted into his "fortress of sin", a discreet house of pleasure catering to his guests' ever whim. Shrouded in secrecy is the true purpose for Revell Court. It is a listening post for the government's secret service, designed to lure top international spies into its net and extract information from them.
Into this snare walks Alice Montague. She has arrived to fetch her sister-in-law, Caro, and take her home because Harry, Caro's son, is sick. Caro is Lucien's mistress. Lucien is immediately taken with Alice not only because of her beauty but her innocence. His work and his life experiences have made him into a cynical and distrustful man, and to know there is someone of such innocence who exists in this world is refreshing but almost hard to believe. He designs a plan of his own to keep Alice at Revell Court for a week to which she reluctantly agrees.
Meanwhile, Lucien finds out that his nemesis, a French spy named Bardou, is alive and preparing to wreak havoc in London. Lucien drops off Alice in Bath and orders her to stay away from London. Alice doesn't listen. She follows Caro and Harry to London and refuses to listen to reason when Lucien tries to persuade her to leave. I'll end the summary here.
Lucien is a likable character. He is not as dark as his twin Damien but Lucien is, all the same, haunted by the atrocities of war and estrangement from his brother. He and Damien had a falling out because Lucien opted to go into Diplomatic services instead of continuing his service as a military officer. He longs for something pure or good in his life that will help him to believe again that uprightness and wholesomeness do exist in his world; that there is a noble purpose to his mission.
While I love Gaelen Foley's Knight Series, I think, however, that Lord of Fire is the weakest of the group. This latest tale about Lord Lucien Knight and Alice Montague fell far short of Lord of Ice, the story about Damien Knight. The storyline was not quite as good nor the characters quite as impressive. The female characters are infuriating. I couldn't, for example, bring myself to even like Alice. She may be beautiful with plenty of goodness in her to "save" Lucien, but she was also mind-numbingly stupid. If you were dating one of England's top secret agents and he warned you to stay away from London because something disastrous was going to happen, would you blithely walk into the enemy's snare because you were angry with your boyfriend? That's Alice for you. What a self-centered, dull-witted girl.

The Blades are back! Dave Duncan's deftly done swords-and-sorcery series adds its second chapter with The Lord of the Fire Lands, the worthy standalone followup to The Gilded Chain. Duncan's triumph with the first tale of the King's Blades--a trend that thankfully continues with the second--is his unabashed confidence in the genre. Swashbuckling high fantasy may get its share of derisive snickers, but done well it can be as engaging and smart as anything more weighty--not to mention that it's often a lot more fun.
Lord of the Fire Lands opens with fat King Ambrose back at hallowed Ironhall mustering more Blades, the Kingdom of Chivial's magically bound, magically enhanced super-swordsmen. But when His Majesty prepares to bestow this honor on the hall's senior pupil, Candidate Raider does the unthinkable, the unprecedented: he refuses. Why would a Blade-to-be insult--and enrage--his king? That, of course, is a long story, and just the start of this time-hopping, tortuous tale.
Cover to cover, Duncan has packed blood-thirsty pirates, betrayed princes, kidnapped brides, slippery assassins, stark-mad shamans, volcanic firedrakes, Blades (naturally) by the bushel, and even a satisfying cameo from none other than Gilded Chain's legendary Durendal. --Paul Hughes

Good except for the ending.......2006-09-20
Raider and Wasp are fast friends at Ironhall. Raider is the best fighter and the most capable candidate to become a king's Blade while Wasp, while a good fencer, is lucky to survive the grueling training. A shocking revelation about Raider's past will propell the boys into an adventure that will make them enemies of the the king and land them in the middle of a feud between the barbaric Baels and the civilized Chivians going back a generation.
Dave Duncan is excellent at spinning a compelling yarn, and the Lord of the Fire Lands is definitely compelling and fun. It has all the elements of a great swashbuckler, along with Duncan's signature plot twists that made The Gilded Chain so enjoyable. However, right at the end Duncan twists the plot so much that it completely contradicts the history of Chivial as written in The Gilded Chain. I was stunned, and for once, did not like it at all. Mr. Duncan this is a fine novel, but I wish the ending was different and not so contradictory of the broader story-line.
Recommended as a stand alone read, but if you read the Gilded Chain get ready for an unpleasant shock at the end.
Duncan is quickly becoming a favorite of mine!.......2006-04-03
Lord of the Fire Lands by Dave Duncan is the second book in the series titled, A Tale of the King's Blades. From what I understand this series is a group of novels that can be read by themselves without losing anything to the story. However, I was recommended a certain order by someone so I will read them that way. The first book I read in this series is The Gilded Chain, which was a fantastic boo
I think it needs to be said that I have never read a book where the author `warns' the reader before the start of the book. When I first read the warning I was confused and wondering what he meant. Of course, this made me want to read the book even more. Here is what the warning states:
This book, like Gilded Chain, is a stand-alone novel. They both cover much the same time interval and certain characters appear in both, but you can read either without reference to the other. The same is true of the upcoming third volume, Sky of Swords. However, the three taken together tell a larger story. If you read any of the two, you will notice certain discrepancies that can be resolved only by reading the third.
Well, after finishing this second book, I fully agree with this warning. The ending of this book throws off the ending of Gilded Chain in so many ways. I `think' I know what is going to happen, but I am rarely right. So I won't even speculate here.
The plot of this book is just as tight and well written as Gilded Chain. Duncan quickly gets the reader to care about his characters. Raider and Wasp are two very memorable characters and ones that everyone should read about. The development of Raider in particular is just great to read. Following him from his time at Iron Hall to where he ends up (sorry no spoilers here). I would like to touch on all the memorable characters within this book, but I don't want to write a novel myself. Suffice it to say that the characters in this book are fantastically written and just fun to read.
The plot in this book is a little cliché at times, but Duncan spins it in such a way that it seems new and refreshing. This plot has all the elements readers enjoy. Fight scenes, murder, intrigue and much much more. There are a few plot twists in this book that surprised me, but looking back they really made sense. It's evident from reading the first two book sin this series that Duncan knows how to structure a plot and make sure everything makes sense. This is series that I will recommend to people for a long time to come.
Now, as I mentioned above, the ending of this book directly conflicts with the ending of Gilded Chain, so I am eagerly awaiting the resolution of how this will work itself out. There was one part of this book that took a little while for me to get into. It seemed a little slow and forced at the start, but after reading he entire book, it makes a lot of sense why it was included within the pages of this novel.
If you are a fan of well written, concise fantasy books this series is a must read for you. I can't say enough about how much I am enjoying this series so I won't even start.
Another great book from Dave Duncan!
Just a good old fashioned story thank god.......2005-03-23
I don't know why I have never heard of this guy before but he sure can write. It is just refreshing to read someone that is not hung up on the medieval stereotype of fantasy and intested in telling a story instead of just another cookie cutter loaded with what you would expect. This type of Fantasy is much more renaissance, I know I'm not the only guy to pick up on that. The fights just seem to have more style then in a lot of books of a similar type. I liked the book because the characters are mostly fleshed out with read reasons for doing what they are doing. Duncan is no GRR Martin but he is the closest that I have seen.
I know I shouldn't evaluate one man's work based on the book of another guy so don't hate its just that Martin writes so well.
Its good that Duncan is around because I have been going crazy looking for good Fantasy.
This book is wonderful so the rest of the series must be great to I am going to check it out, I suggest you do the same.
Lord of the Fire Lands - Another wonderful tale!.......2004-05-02
"Lord of the Fire Lands" is another exceptional example of superior fantasy writing by author, Dave Duncan. After finishing his first "Tale of the King's Blades" in "The Gilded Chain," it seemed as though that novel would be a hard one to follow but Dave Duncan deftly handles that in writing this thoroughly absorbing and compelling story. The only downside to this story is the beginning in which it seems to take some time for the story to get going at a decent pace but I suspect that was, for me, simply an aftereffect of having just finished "The Gilded Chain" and the frenetic pace at which that story concluded. Overall though, "Lord of the Fire Lands" is a completely compelling story where Dave Duncan sets a good pace for the plot and tells a tale that adds brilliantly to King's Blades mythology.
The one truly intriguing aspect of this novel is the ending which contradicts the conclusion of "The Gilded Chain." As I understand it though, Dave Duncan cleverly handles this contradiction with ease in the third novel, "Sky of Swords." Every one of the novels begins with a blurb about how these novels can be read independently of the others but it would be "best" to read them in order to get the thorough experience of the overall story, which is exactly what I would suggest. The first two tales pretty much run concurrently of each other and there are even appearances in "Lord of the Fire Lands" by key characters from the first novel.
The Premise:
"Lord of the Fire Lands" is the story of two would be Blades in Wasp and Raider. When the time comes for King Ambrose IV to come to Ironhall and bind them into his service Raider respectfully refuses to do so and his best friend Wasp follows his lead. In the entire of history of the King's Blades, this has never happened before. As the two youngsters patiently await the outcome of their dreadful decision, King Ambrose comes to them and orders them to explain why they've done what they've done.
This is where the true story kicks in for this outstanding novel as Raider, who turns out to be Radgar, the son of the former King of the Baels, Eled. Raider begins to tell them how he came to be in Ironhall and the tale takes of from there...
What follows from there is an extremely enlightening addition to the "Tales of the King's Blades" as Dave Duncan takes us on an adventure that spans several years where the characters are extremely well defined with exceptional depth and the overall plot is thoroughly well thought out and executed.
I highly recommend not only this second book in the King's Blades tales but the all of them to any and all who are fans of exceptional fantasy fiction that is written with adults in mind. Dave Duncan is a superior author who deserves any and all accolades he's received and I'm sure continues to receive for these exceptional stories. {ssintrepid}

Nice Editing.......2005-04-23
This book is a great way to enter into Christian spirituality.
Why?
First, because this book is deeply personal and keenly insightful. A Kempis' work is quite beautiful on its own but Hazard editing "for Today's Reader" makes it much more accessible (maybe someday someone will do this same thing with Oswald Chambers famous devotional book!). I think this is important because for many people the last thing they need to do when doing their devotional is to have to figure out the meanings of archaic or uncommon words.
Second, the main thrust of a Kempis' writing is to help aid the Christian in the fight against the Adversary. Today, more than ever, many people choose to follow Jesus without realizing the bumps in the road, chief of which is Satan. Hazard helps the reader see this danger by his careful choosing of passages that deal specifically with this subject.
Third, at the end of each chapter is a short prayer that is italicized to set it apart from the rest of the text. This too is particularly helpful for young or lapsed Christians because it (re)introduces them to prayer. Prayer, like most things in life, does not simply develop in a vacuum; it is learned. The best way is to have an experienced prayer partner to lead you along the way. A viable alternative is to pray the prayers of other devoted Christians who came before you.
All in all this is a great book to have!

A classic tale. . ........2000-02-03
set in the highlands, starring a buxom Viking lass and a virile Highlands man. The lord Duncan is seeking a nubile wife to fulfill the terms of a treaty, and sets his *heart* on Jarvia. She isn't your average village twit; she's the lawgiver a.k.a lawyer of this refugee Norse village. What's a working girl to do? Why, submit to Duncan's request for a virginity test. This of course leads to all sorts of problems, mostly because he is "a lusty man" who "likes carnal pleasure." Apparently, he also likes the "taste" of Jarvia. Join the fun as these two tempestuous personalities go *head to head*. Full of scenes to ridiculous to be erotic, I think Jarvia said it best--"it made her femininity quiver."
Its a GOOOOD story!!!.......1998-01-23
Can't wait to read Lord of Thunder, to finish the story. Lord of Fire leaves you hanging....

Very Nice.......2003-08-06
I felt that this book was an excellent work in the non-traditional fantasy genre. It bestows the feeling of a medieval fantasy--at the same time interweaving a fairly unique storyline. The book may seem a bit cliche if the reader had not read the first book "Fire Get" but is a qualty work into, and of, itself. I hope that the author continues her writing and produces stories of simiar excellence.
