    Book Description

When the personality is rigid to the point of being unable to change in reaction to changing circumstances - we say that it is disordered. Such a person takes behavioral, emotional, and cognitive cues exclusively from others. His inner world is, so to speak, vacated. His True Self is dilapidated and dysfunctional. Instead he has a tyrannical and delusional False Self. Such a person is incapable of loving and of living. He cannot love others because he cannot love himself. He loves his reflection, his surrogate self. And he is incapable of living because life is a struggle towards, a striving, a drive at something. In other words: life is change. He who cannot change cannot live.

The narcissist is an actor in a monodrama, yet forced to remain behind the scenes. The scenes take center stage, instead. The Narcissist does not cater at all to his own needs. Contrary to his reputation, the Narcissist does not "love" himself in any true sense of the word.

He feeds off other people, who hurl back at him an image that he projects to them. This is their sole function in his world: to reflect, to admire, to applaud, to detest - in a word, to assure him that he exists. Otherwise, the narcissist feels, they have no right to tax his time, energy, or emotions.

The main body of research about Narcissism is surveyed in the book.

Malignant Self Love - Narcissism Re-Visited offers a detailed, first hand account of what it is like to have a Narcissistic Personality Disorder. It contains new insights and an organized methodological framework. The first part of the book comprises more than 100 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding relationships with abusive narcissists and the Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

4 out of 5 stars Lucid, well researched and useful.......2005-01-12

This book is well organized, articulate and insightful. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because the case law cited specific to stalking was rather outdated. Excellent for a theoretical framework surrounding the issue of stalking.

    Book Description

From the authors of the bestselling In the Company of Heroes come the thrilling, never-before-heard stories of the Army's elite aviation unit, the most daring and professional helicopter crews in the world.

In his first book, Michael Durant told his harrowing tale of being shot down in his Blackhawk over Mogadishu and held captive by a Somali warlord. It was a remarkable account, particularly because Special Operations pilots are notoriously reticent-they don't talk about their missions, at least not to anyone outside their small community. But now, with the publication of The Night Stalkers, Durant and Steven Hartov shed a fascinating light on these mysterious super commandos and take readers into a world they have only imagined.

From Iran to Grenada to Iraq, the 160th SOAR (A) has been at the point of the spear and in the thick of combat, delivering and supporting Delta operators, Rangers, and SEAL teams to any target, at any point on the globe, in all weather-night or day. Simply put, they are the best of the best, and here for the first time are their hair-raising true stories of battle, capture, victory, and loss.

    5 out of 5 stars Eye Opener!!.......2007-09-06

This book is a great read! What these soldiers can do is amazing. I had to read this because my son is a new Night Stalker. I can't help but well up with pride and fear because I now have an idea of what the Night Stalkers can do.

    5 out of 5 stars Execellent.......2007-03-23

This is the kind of book that get you reading for hours.
    Already among my favourites.
I think this is one of the most descriptive accounts about what the Night Stalkers do and a very detailled description of the few missions that can be talked about.
    An excellent book.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK ON GREAT MEN.......2007-03-02

AWESOME READ ... TRUE HEROES AND THIS IS ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG FOR WHAT THESE MEN DO ... NSDQ

3 out of 5 stars More biographical than operational.......2007-02-05

I'm only about 80 pages into the book but find it difficult to continue. The book reads more like a biography of the men and women in the 160th SOAR rather than an operational history of the unit. The book cover flap says "never-before-heard stories" and "Top-Secret Missions of the US Army's SOAR" but so far, the book hasn't lived up to the claims.

A big annoyance is how the authors include a one to ten page biographical background of every person introduced. These biographical "flashbacks" throw off the pace of the book. The book starts in Grenada, jumps back to Iran in 1980, rewinds again to JFK, then Grenada in 1979, then back to Grenada in the 1980s. There is no continuity of thought.

Another minor annoyance is some of the conversations reported. They sound like something from a B movie or a bad "blood and guts" novel. "The United States coming in is gonna scare the (expletive) out of those militia amateurs" or "cool as ice water at a helo's controls, and loose as a goose at the officers' bar".

Admittedly, covering the people who fly Special Ops troops into battle might be a challenge, but so far, the authors have come up short. Instead of hearing about more Vietnam stories, I was expecting -- or hoping -- for more stories about how the SOAR was formed, the equipment used, the tactics, and so on.

There are little nuggets of gold in the book thus far. Learning about the OH and AH-6 choppers -- and seeing them in action (pictures included) -- was interesting. Seeing operators perched on the side of those choppers, which little or nothing to restrain them, was eye-opening.

Will revise review when/if I finish the book.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book - Great American Soldiers.......2007-01-22

I have just finished this book in a great 4 night read. I found the book to be well written, exciting and a great tribute to the men and families of the Night Stalkers. I served at Fort Campbell as an Army Surgeon during the creation of this unit (1980-81) and saw the first "Little Bird" conversions. One of the authors (LtCol Bob Johnson) was my guide on that day. Until then, I had never seen a helicopter with seats on the OUTSIDE! My thanks to the authors for providing insight into a very secret and special military unit and some of its famous operations.
My family and I are glad that we have the men and the will to create, deploy and support a unit such as this. I hope that we can all learn what it means to be an American from this book and the Night Stalkers.
Read this book - you will not be disappointed! NSDQ

    Book Description

They're the good guys fighting the bad guys. They'll get the job done—if the price is right and so is the cause. And what cause could be nobler than the heart's desire? Rough and ready, tough and tender—when it comes to love and security, these hunks are definitely for hire...

As a writer, Lise Barton is used to coming up with wild scenarios for her characters, but the one that's playing out for her right now is no fiction—it's frighteningly real. Someone is stalking her, someone who knows where she lives and what she does. Someone who has even threatened her family—her brother, his wife, and their precious baby girl. Lise isn't about to let someone hurt them, so she packs up and leaves Texas for the anonymity of Seattle. And then the threats start again…

Joshua Watt's mission is simple: Go to Seattle and bring Lise home for Thanksgiving or he'll never hear the end of it from his sister. It's not like "Aunt Lise" to stay away from their adorable niece, and Joshua's pretty sure he's the reason for it. He's spent months trying to forget the taste of her lips, the feel of her soft hair in his fingers. Yeah, okay, he wants her—badly—but family comes first. But the minute he sees the fear in Lise's eyes, his survival instincts kick in. The former Army Ranger isn't about to let some creep terrorize an innocent woman—not on his watch. He's going to do what it takes to protect Lise and try to keep his personal feelings out of it. Because if there's one thing he's learned, it's that sex and work don't mix. Not ever. So far…

I liked this book! It starts right off and goes. I found it to be well written, entertaining and nicely edited. It is action, romance, thriller and steam. Sometimes, it great not to have to CONCENTRATE on your novel(s). This one is easy to read and follow. Like one of the other reviewers mentioned, when I picked this book up I did not expect to read the "great american read." It was fun, fast-paced and involved two main characters most folks would like.

5 out of 5 stars Loved it, just the way it is...........2007-05-30

I don't know why anyone would expect this book to be anything but what it is --- a FICTIONAL romance story involving an ex-Ranger/Special Forces hunk and a damsel in distress. (Remember when the men used to be PI's or detectives, now they are all Rangers or SEALS.) And for its genre, it fits the bill, matter-of-fact, it sets the standard. The guy is hot, the girl is fiesty, and the sex is smokin'. When I picked this book up, I didn't expect to read "The Great American Novel". I expected a fluffy, fun, sexy book and an escape from the hum-drum of every day life. I loved it for what it was, good ol' junk food.

    3 out of 5 stars I love a great sex scene..........2007-04-21

and this book is not short on them. However the actual plot is very short on substance. When the resolution to the problem is 2 pages I was let down!! It would have been much better with more of a storyline. I will try some of Lucy Monroe's other books, perhaps they are better on substance.

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, fast paced, fun..........2007-04-17

This was my first book by Lucy Monroe and I almost didn't bother because of some of the mixed reviews. As another reviewer mentioned, if you are a Shannon McKenna fan then you will probably enjoy this book. I found it hard to put down. The characters were very likeable, and the plot was suspenseful enough to keep me turning pages without being over the top. I have already ordered "Willing" & "and Able" because I can't wait to find out what happens to Nitro and Hotwire. I have to admit that Nitro didn't draw me as much as Hotwire did so I'm interested to see if I'll like "Willing" as much as I enjoyed "Ready" but judging by the reviews others seem to like it better then the final installment "and Able" featuring Hotwire. All in all if you like the strong, slightly dominant alpha male heros then I think you'll like this book.

2 out of 5 stars Ready, Willing, and Able.......2007-04-13

The entire trilogy was fairly readable, Lucy Monroe usually does a good job but all three of these books involved basically the same actions and reactions between the heroes/heroines: each hero has sworn he will never get involved so he can't possibly fall in love. Each heroine is either a virgin or has almost no experience with sex but of course has incredible sex with these emotionally distant men--yeah, right, their incredible penises are all they have going for them.

And of course after all the sex they have while repeatedly telling the heroines this is not a relationship, just sex, they suddenly and for no apparent reason realize they LOVE the heroines so they can have a relationship after all.

3 out of 5 stars If the author's ego would kindly step aside, the book would be a lot better.......2006-07-25

First off, the royal we becomes annoying really fast.

When he sticks to his topic, he's informative, enlightening, and even entertaining. He knows his stuff and he covers a lot of ground, including the Internet. I feel like I've learned a lot of information from him and I don't regret reading this book.

Too often, however, he veers off into "this is why me and my group and wonderful and have to face a whole bunch of idiots." Like in the section on sadism where he never gets around to giving the example he promised, but rather discusses problems he had with a jurist from another jurisdiction.

Overall, the tone is quite juvenile, and I had to keep reminding myself this was a man in his fifties, not early twenties. He comes off as a bit of a puppy. The name calling gets tiresome after a while. I'd also rather he not talk down to the reader. I didn't need him to clarify that no, dead bodies don't sit up and give statements to the police, thanks.

Those last two points are what keeps the book from getting 5 stars. It's a good book; it could have been a great book.

    5 out of 5 stars A very informative book.......2005-05-01

I expected a work on stalking to be very dry and difficult to get through. This book, however, was extremely interesting, informative and easy to read. It is the sort of book that the normal man in the street could read and apply as easily as someone who is more knowledgeable about the subject. A wonderful handbook for anyone having troubles of this nature and a wothwhile read for any safety conscious individual.

Up until right now, I read couple books on stalking behaviour, this one is one of the best I have ever read, it is very srong in defining the behaviour, lots of examples are given which may help you better understand the behaviour. If you are the stalking victim this book might help you save your own life. I strongly recommend this book anyone who wants to deal with stalking behaviour effectively.

    5 out of 5 stars great information.......2005-01-27

This book is a must read for anyone working with victims of stalking or domestic violence. It provides complete and sensible information needed in working with victims--sort of a how to approach, realistic and sensible. Also, it is written in a very readable style.

5 out of 5 stars "How to Stop a Stalker" review.......2004-12-18

"How to Stop a Stalker" written by Mike Proctor was extremely informative and very much an eye opener. It defines in layman's terms the various types of stalkers, their methods of stalking and what to do when this occurs. It spells out the process and procedures the judicial system has to follow to apprehend and secure this type of individual. This book should be mandatory reading for all human resource departments whether it be in private practice or public domain and for that matter any individual seeking knowledge and awareness.

      Book Description

      J. W. Jackson, the ex-Boston cop turned fisherman, cook, and jack-of-all-trades, delves deep into the mysterious depths of his beloved Vineyard in author Philip Craig's most compelling caper yet.

With his wife, Zee, and two kids visiting relatives in "America," J.W. is alone and quickly tiring of his temporary bachelor status. A request from Carole Cohen comes as a blessed diversion. Carole wants J.W. to find the person who's stalking her brother, Roland. Known locally as "The Monk" for his reclusive ways, Roland lives on a beautiful piece of Vineyard real estate that he co-owns with his cousin Sally Oliver. A number of people, including Sally, would do almost anything to convince Roland to sell his valuable property. But does that include violence?

J.W. is happy to take on what looks like a short and easy assignment, though he soon realizes that Roland may lead a more complicated life than his austere living arrangements suggest. And when a body turns up near Roland's land, what seemed like a property dispute takes a detour into murder -- with J.W. in the midst of the action once again.

Featuring a rich mix of money, lust, pride, and jealousy, spiced with a little poignant regret, Vineyard Stalker is a page-turning and deftly plotted addition to this popular and engaging series in which Martha's Vineyard itself is always the star.

I purchased this book in order to gain some knowledge about the 160th, since my son was recently accepted to SOAR. It provided quite a bit of information to me. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested about this elite group. I especially enjoyed the many pictures and the history of the 160th. I'm totally in awe!

This book was awesome! It detailed what the Night Stalkers do. It is very personal to me because a good friend's son was a Night Stalker. He was killed recently in Iraq while on a special mission hunting for Zarqawi. He personally recomended this book and so do I.

Faye Kellerman's latest thriller features Cynthia Decker, daughter of Peter Decker, familiar to readers of the author's previous novels featuring the L.A. detective and his Orthodox Jewish wife Rina Lazarus. In Kellerman's earlier books, we've met Cynthia briefly as a difficult adolescent upset by her parents' divorce and later as an Ivy League college student with an interest in following her overly protective father into the family business: solving crimes. Now Cynthia's a young L.A. cop who's the subject of what at first seems like innocent-enough teasing from her colleagues. They think she's snooty and standoffish and riding on her father's reputation. Actually, she's all of those things, which makes for a somewhat less than sympathetic heroine:
Beaudry said, "Every time we start shooting the bull, talking about the day, you say things like, 'Yeah, my father once had a case like that.'"

      "I'm trying to relate."

"It pisses people off. It makes them think that their experiences are nothin' special. Everyone wants to feel special. You already feel special because you've got all this college. You gotta remember that the average Joe on the force is a high school graduate, maybe a couple of years at a junior college like me. If you're real smart, okay, you do a four-year state, then enter the academy with the idea of doing the gold."

      "Like my dad--"

"Stop mentioning your dad. He isn't a legend, Decker, he's a pencil pusher."

As the teasing escalates, Cindy's stalked, threatened, and finally frightened, although it pains her to admit it. There's a killer on the loose, and even if she's not the best cop on the force, she knows enough to turn to her father for help. But first, she has a brief affair with one of the men under his command. It seems a little too obvious a ploy for Daddy's attention and hardly adds to her character--we already know she's immature and a bit of a bitch. But at least this maneuver brings Peter back on the scene, allowing Kellerman to hit her stride as she gets back to a character who holds the reader's interest because he's more than two-dimensional. Sadly, Cindy's not quite ready for prime time; perhaps she'll grow up in her next outing. Or better yet, Kellerman will bring us more adventures by Peter and Rina. --Jane Adams

      Book Description

L.A. Homicide Detective Peter Decker never wanted the perils of his job to touch his family. But now his two worlds have collided.

A first year rookie with the LAPD's Hollywood Division, Cynthia Decker became a cop against her father, Peter Decker's, wishes. But police work is in her blood, and she's determined to make it on her own -- even now, when her razor sharp instincts for danger are telling her that something is very wrong...

The signs are impossible to ignore: things being moved around in her apartment, the destruction of personal effects. But it's a harrowing trip down a dark canyon road that confirms Cindy's worst fears. Someone fiendishly relentless, and with decidedly evil intentions, is stalking her. And with Peter Decker isolated from her troubles by his own investigation into a disturbing series of car-jackings, it's up to Cindy alone to find out who in her personal and/or professional life wants her frightened or harmed...or dead.

2 out of 5 stars Kept wishing it had been better.......2007-02-13

I started reading this series of books in order, and found some of them better than others. The tension and the suspense keep me hooked, even with the flaws. I have just started The Forgotten, and hope it is better than Stalker. I have to put part of the blame on Kellerman's editors, because there are so many loose ends, things left unexplained. That really bothers me. And the over use of the F word gets very, very old. (I frequently eat in the same restaurant with cops, and they really don't talk like that.) I am trying to like Cindy, but it is hard. She is a brat, I can forgive her for that, but to have an affair with Scott Oliver, who is her father's age and a known sleezeball. Eeeeew! Cindy has no redeemable qualities that I can see. I hope that Kellerman can clean up her act and get this series back on track. I don't understand why it is called the Peter Decker Rina Lazarus series, when Rina rarely plays a part in any of the books anymore (like she did before Hannah was born). I love Peter Decker as a character, though. I see Ted Levine (Det. Stottlemeyer on the show Monk) playing him, if the books ever become movies or a TV series. Keep 'em coming, Kellerman! Just make sure your editor does his/her job from now on regarding continuity!

5 out of 5 stars Adding Cindy to the pot really makes it cook........2006-11-10

Started reading F.Kellerman this summer. Began with the RITUAL BATH.
Just finifshed STALKER and onto The FORGOTTEN.
Never a let down. Exciting and quick reads.

3 out of 5 stars Storyline and action a bit of a disappointment.......2005-02-10

This is my first Faye Kellerman book, and ironically, I had just read her husband's book "Silent Partner" before I read this. I expected her book to be as good. It was not a bad book, just not as suspenseful as the description would have you believe.

First off, I don't understand it saying "A Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus Novel." Rina had very little to do with the outcome, other than supporting Cindy a couple times against her father's ire. I know police officers, having been a police reporter, and Cindy didn't ring true as a rookie cop. Some of the aspects of her behavior did seem real, others didn't.

The beginning kind of confused me because it starts out, not with a main character, but with this scary story a woman named Farin was involved in. You expect her to be the main character, but it's rather puzzling that she's not a major part of the book in any way.

Who ended up being the stalker -- not an unusual person, where stalkers go, that's true. Stalkers are often people we know well. It just didn't seem like Mrs. Kellerman did her homework on how stalkers really act. Something just didn't ring true with this person.

I liked the character development of Cindy with her lover, and Cindy with her father and the other cops. The author gave great detail. It wasn't a page-turner for me although I certainly did want to find out what happened. I was just a little disappointed when I got there.

Overall, a very good read and interesting. I just wouldn't characterize it as a thriller.

well..this was my first kellerman's novel and all the characters were very new to me.. I kept on reading and reading for so many days to just read half of the book.. then i got hooked up in the novel.. it has a mundane plot and just like every another detective story where you can easily guess who the criminal is...i knew him even before the story told me... the book is a big dissapointment for my first kellerman's novel.. i am not likely to read any of her other novel again...

      2 out of 5 stars Dissapointed.......2004-07-10

I bought this book at random on vacation, looking for good, intriguing books. The summary on the back caught my interest. Well, after reading two Harlan Coben books, this was a big dissapointment. It was okay, and had some exciting moments. First of all, the book is way too long: 442 pages that I wished were about 200. The book has a slow beginning. It took 200 pages for me to become excited about anything in the novel. It is too wordy and goes into too much detail over things of nonimportance, that cause boredom. The caharcters aren't very intriguing, and much of the story seems predictable. After reading Harlan Coben's books that are wonderful from beginning to end and full of twists, this just didn't match up. I will not be buying any more books in this series or by this author. Also, the language became old, as I became tired of seeing the over-used "F-Bomb." This just isn't very good. There are many other mysteries that are much better. I recommend Harlan Coben's Trust No One, Gone For Good, and No Second Chance.
