Dream Life.......2007-05-21
Billy Earley takes us on a trek through the dream world of Embattleton, a planet that was doomed because of its misuse of its natural environment. The Embattletonians came to earth in order to preserve the species. The Embattletonians were an advanced civilization that learned to live together peaceably. Past generations of wars and misuse of their planet caught up with them and they could not reverse the damage that previous generations had thrust upon them, so to protect their species they were forced to settle on the planet earth. They could not remember their past history as their memories were wiped clean and once settled on earth they could not get along, After leaving Emabattleton the author is thrust into Babylon, and while there he meets Daniel and they are under the rule of an evil king, who claims to be God. Daniel and the author did not believe this, so as a result of this their lives were put in jeopardy. Through this dream the author witnessed the division of the races. The Creator showed him how life on earth began. The author gives his theory on many topics such as the origin of the species, and why different races settled in different areas. The author also gives us his speculations on evolution and DNA, and the creation of the planets.
This book had quite a few grammatical errors and could have been better edited and while they did not take away from my enjoyment of the book, it lowered my rating by a point. The book was written in a conversational tone and I felt as though I was visiting with a friend .I wish that the author had centered this story around the planet Embattleton as this made for an interesting tale. Lovers of Science Fiction will enjoy reading this book, but you will need an open mind to grasp the author's point-of -views. The author states that there will be a second part and I for one will be waiting to read it.

The Legend Really Lives.......2007-03-02
The Wraith Of the Species is a literary masterpiece. Doctor Billy really has some of the best writing skills that I have seen in a long time. This is a very powerful stimulating book which details life and the origin of life as we know it. I really enjoyed reading some of the critical thinking topics that Doctor Billy has introduced in his new book as well. I love this book and I would recommend it to anyone out there who loves to read and has a thirst for true knowledge! I can't wait to read his next book, "I am really impressed with this author!"
Impressed with the species.......2007-02-14
Very few books managed to keep my attention as well as "The Wraith Of The Species!". Billy Earley's writing style reminded me of the works of Mark Twain with its conversational flow. Sometimes I forgot that I was reading a book because the stories were so interesting. By reading this book, I not only added an enjoyable experience or two, but I also picked up on a lot of medical facts that I can't wait to share during our next arm-chair quarterbacking session discussing the how's and why's of someones illness.
Keep up the good work Mr. Earley. And may your pen never run dry.

Introspection at it's finest.......2005-04-16
Each of White Wolf's games, even the little ones, like mummy or freak legion, are beautiful efforts to focus play around a single role-played theme, and the effects of the gameplay, the character creation, and even the obscure little optional rules in the index act to support and strengthen those themes. Wraith is truly a perfect example of this. The game does not simply present a depressing setting, then ask players to "get in character". The character creation process is involving and requires deep thought. The rules effects that come into play from game one act to draw the players in, and the character's emotions out. And each successive twist and turn of the game builds depth and meaning into what started out as a very gothic and thoughtful environment. In wraith, there is horror and danger in every form you can imagine, from the slow, personal draw of your own mind turned against you, to the shrieking nightmares of Oblivion's spectres, to the opressive weight of the hierarchy of Charon, to the mind numbing immensity of Oblivion itself. 31 flavors of fear, served to order. If you like horror games, this is your ticket.
Simultaneously, I wholeheartedly agree with previous reviewers in stressing Wraith's role-playing aspects. This game will actively kill hack and slash gaming, not only the characters, but the game style itself. All power, healing, existance and ability rely on you acting out the deepset needs and passions of your character. All that stuff that you make up when you generate a character that usually winds up on the third or fourth page and gets ignored by the other players is now at center stage, guaranteed vital, and everybody cares. The interpersonal interactions are pushed to the limit, crying, raging, and even falling in love are totally believable results of this masterpiece of pole playing.
Pick up your copy before it fades away forever.
White Wolf.......2004-07-18
While I'm fond of Dungeons and Dragons, my heart has a special place for white wolf, and if you're any kind of white wolf fan, then you would know: this game was their destiny.
Every White Wolf game is all about being miserable, even though you're an awesome demon!
Well in Wraith, despite your very cool powers, there is a part of your brain trying to turn you to Shadow, and make you a servant of Oblivion, which expands greater everyday, threatening to destroy the underworld.
it's a very dark game. intense.
White wolf needs more games like this all-accessible tragedy.......2004-02-08
This RPG is, quite simply, the greatest of its kind. White Wolf went out of its way and beyond the call of duty to put this gorgeous piece of work on the shelves. The fact that it's out of print is just appalling. This book is beautifully written and the art is amazing, in every sense of either word. The atmospheric darkness and overwhelming despair of the book itself is oddly uplifting compared to the forced grittiness or plagiarism of most other RPG books. The great bits of this book (and game) are the humanist bits. The fact that you're playing a character who, regardless of race, creed, whatever he/she did in their life, they are all so uniquely (well, like real people, as unique as everyone else) and subtly damned, in a way the vampires and Werewolves of the rest of the WW world can't even dream of. This game's only fault is that running it requires an incredible amount of concentration, a huge degree of single-mindedness and very good knowledge on how to set an atmosphere. If you can find a truly good storytller (like we were lucky enough to)who can give his (or in our case, her) own touch to an already spectacular world and you're willing to possibly soil yourself from fear or break down crying from a role-playing game, then this is for you. This book follows the White Wolf traditions of actually being a fun and involving (if chillingly accurate and intensely personal) read. The art is all along the high-contrast black on white lines that a book like this demands, and it works perfectly. The writing has the somber feel of being so meticulously done that the writers mustn't have gotten sleep for weeks. The continuing story of the wraith writer separating each chapter is heartfelt and remniscient of the work of Neil Gaiman, and the long passages describing every aspect of the fleshed out land of the dead are so harsh and real that this book gives new meaning to role-playing. So, basically, if you're into a game that reallly, truly is a character driven game, this is the one for you. If only it were still in print...
Slipping into Oblivion.......2003-08-25
To this date I still have every original paperback release of every WoD games as well as their subsiquent hard back re-releases, but in all this time only one of these games was ever able to capture my heart and stir my emotions; Wraith the Oblivion.
Unlike other games in the WoD series wraith centers around feelings and emotions. Where vampires drink blood to survive Wraiths my tangle with pathos to survive. Where Werewolves truggle against the mighty Wyrm wraiths must fight their own inner demons, less they be swept into oblivion.
Unfortunately, Wraith: The Oblivion is all but gone. The WoD's has pretty much shunned Wraith for it's core games; Vampire, Werewolf, and Mage. However wraith will always be my favorite of the series and I would strong encourage everyone who has played an WoD games to please purchase this title and give it a try.
Wraith, so gothic it's dead.......2003-04-24
Wraith is the ultimate in personal horror. You create a dead character, control that charcter as it fights it's darker half, and the end is never what you could possibly imagine. In a previous review someone mentioned 'saying Wraith was a gothic game would be to say Lord of the Rings is a story about elves.' That is the truest comparison one can make about Wraith. If you want a game that you pick up and play with very simple rules and stories, go play DnD, if you want a slugfest, get Werewolf, if you want a game in which you must always use your head before your fists and be nine steps ahead of your darker half just to get by with your sanity intact, purchase Wraith. You won't be dissappointed.

Book Description
They are the galaxy's most elite fighting force. And as the battle against the Empire rages, the X-wing fighters risk life and machine to protect the Rebel Alliance. Now they must go on a daring undercover mission--as the crew of an Imperial warship.
It is Wedge Antilles' boldest creation: a covert-action unit of X-wing fighters, its pilots drawn from the dregs of other units, castoffs and rejects given one last chance. But before the new pilots can complete their training, the squadron's base is attacked by former Imperial admiral Trigit, and Wraith Squadron is forced to swing into action--taking over an Imperial warship and impersonating its crew. The mission: to gain vital intelligence about Trigit's secret weapons, to sabotage the admiral's plans, and to lure him into an Alliance trap. But the high-stakes gamble pits Wraith Squadron's ragtag renegades against the Empire's most brilliant master of guile and deception.
Are they up to the challenge?
If not, the penalty is instant death.

The Wraith Squadron Trilogy, Part 1.......2007-05-26
I understand that this series was capitalizing on the popularity of a computer game, but it would have been better if it didn't have the title of "X-Wing." That minor beef aside, the first 4 books of this series form a tetralogy by Michael A. Stackpole featuring the exploits of Rogue Squadron.
This book is the first part of a new trilogy by Aaron Allston about the title commando-pilot unit, which is capable of counter-intelligence and sabotage missions in addition to starfighter combat. For a post-Return of the Jedi novel that is not about Luke, Han and Leia, this book is not bad. A covert operations pilot squadron like the Wraiths is a cool concept.
As for the best novels from the era of the movie saga, I highly recommend the following 5-star novels:
Cloak of Deception (Star Wars)
Shadow Hunter (Star Wars: Darth Maul)
Labyrinth of Evil (Star Wars, Episode III Prequel Novel)
Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader (Star Wars)
Shadows of the Empire (Star Wars)
I'm a Believer!.......2007-05-12
When I first cracked open Rogue Squadron by Mike Stackpole, I thought I had found the single squadron I would ever want to read. The Rogues were funny, amazing, and all had vivid pasts to constantly capture my imagination.
When I first cracked open Wraith Squadron, however, I was blown away. The Wraiths were more than funny, they were hilarious; they were more than amazing, they were ingenious; and only were their pasts vivid, they were so out there that I fell in love with the Wraiths. A perfect story for all X-wing lovers!
More X-Wing goodness.......2007-01-26
Aaron Allston does a terrific job of carrying on the series with these three Wraith Squadron books. If you liked the first books, you won't be missing anything in this one.
The premise is that Wedge Antilles, after experiencing the success of the commando like operations of a pro fighter squadron, decides to take the idea further, by making a squadron designed to specialize in commando missions, but also be thoroughly trained in flying. The source of pilots? Washouts and rejects, who can only manage one last chance to get into a squadron.
The main difference between these and other X-Wing books is the characters. Rogue Squadron isn't here, except for Wedge, and you get to meet a bunch of new people, who are even more off-beat than the Rogues. Aaron Allston brings excellent humor, that you can't help but love the books for.
The central plot, revolving around a campaign against Warlord Zsinj, is really great, and Zsinj is well developed.
Don't be afraid of the new squadron and new author. Everything awesome from the first books are there, and you won't be disappointed.
Amazing; Allston, just as good as Stackpole.......2007-01-17
Aaron Allston shows his writing magnificantly in the first of a trilogy inside a series.
Wraith Squadron is post of the Bacta War, and starts off with Wedge Antilles, commander of Rogue Squadron, an elite X-Wing squadron responsible for the Death Star destruction, leaving Rogue Squadron for a period of time.
His decision to leave Rogue Squadron temporarily was due to the fact that he wanted to form another squadron. This time, rather then "clean" people, he wanted recruits with records. He had also made a little deal with Admiral Ackbar, commander of Home One, that if Wedge's little scheme of screw-up recruits don't work out, he must accept his promotion to General.
Wraith Squadron basically starts near the beginning of the Zsinj War and it just leads on from there.
Wraith Squadron is the amazing start to an already begun beginning.
Believe me when I say this: Aaron Allston's books in the X-Wing series is an awesome addition. When I read it, I could see nearly everything going on from the pedalling of the rudders to the beautiful terrain of planets that are brought into play.
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
Misfits in X-Wings.......2005-12-30
Book 5 of the X-wing series. Following the exploits of Rogue Squadron in which Isard was taken down, Antilles decides to put together a unique group of fighters consisting of misfits, failures, and pilots of the edge. There is still pleny of action like other x-wing books, but there is a fair amount of humor and horseplay among the pilots that make it a real fun read.
Highly suggested, as it may just be one of the very best Star Wars books available.

This is it..........2002-03-05
This is how the world ends...sort of. For those that say White Wolf is in it only for money and not for the fans, let me say this: the material in Ends Of Empire could be sold as 4 seperate books, yet the company has decided to put all these loose ends in one place.
Ends of Empire is a bittersweet end to a really creative and unique game line. Name one other role-playing game where your character's death is only the beginning of his adventures. Although Richard Dansky is quite thankful to all those that worked on this book and the ones preceeding it, you can sense a bitter overtone in Afterward.
Still, despite the fact that the book is a testament to a good game being tossed out the window for business reasons, this is a good way to wrap up the world of Wraith: The Oblivion.
The end of a game line as we know it.......2000-05-16
I really liked Wraith: The Oblivion, i liked it because it wasa game of real introspection and of not many ways to detour the gameinto a munchkin dream, i liked it because you had to really understand yourself in order to be saved and because your worst enemy was you, i liked it because no other game has scared me silly with something so simple as the "Bang! you are dead" concept. But i also understand that of all the games in the White Wolf line it was the hardest to play. You could not fool your friends posing as a Vampire elder from Slovakia or a raging Werewolf howling for blood, you were alone on the other side surrounded by people who did not like the place a lot and their only pastime was to make your existence more miserable than theirs, you were raw material for coins, chains or armor. To conclude it was a nasty, gut wrenching game that you easilly abandoned playing because it was easier to say that it was boring than recognizing that you were afraidbecause it touched too many nerves to be comfortable. So the line ended in an apocalyptic climax; Charon, ruler of the underworld returns just when Stygia is about to fall to the forces of Oblivion. The Story begins in London where your Wraiths reap (help a poor sod who happens to be Charon reborn to die) the soul of Charon and have to take him to his kingdom all the way besieged by enemies who just want to end you all, when the characters arrive to the Capital, they have to fight against the thoughest badie i have ever seen in a White Wolf supplement, there is no misterious stranger to help you out of this, it is just your party against him and on that fight rests the future of the Underworld. After that comes an ending you would not believe. Is is worth the price? Yes, of course. On a single supplement you can see the direction the whole line of products was directed, and it was a great direction, i don't think any other game line had such a clear path made and at the same time so full of possibilities...Besides the adventure you get for the same price two guildbooks, they are like the Tradition, Clan, Kith, Tribe books that plague the White Wolf system. They are the Mnenoi and Ferrymen Guildbooks, they just wanted to wrap tight the whole thing and not leave a thing upturned I really liked the adventure though it had the feeling of being made in a hurry, they had too many things to say and too few space...Word of advise there, you really need experienced characters in order to survive, so if it is not the ending to your Wraith chronicle then you need to create ancient ghosts to play it safe.
Great end to a great game........1999-10-05
This may be the last Wriath book and if it is then the series is ending with one of the best sourcebooks ever written. Keep up the great work Bruce!

I played l5r but a bunch of my friends played vampire and rage so i got this book because i'm into WWI and I wanted to be something different then a werewolf or a vampire the concept was great but the vampire game in general jsut bores me and I only played because my friedns did but this book made the game fun
The Great Book.......2001-03-13
Although writen in a completely different mood compared to it's precursor, Wraith: The Oblivion, The Great War offers you the possibility of playing in one of the bloodiest scenarios of all times: World War I, the "War to end all wars".
As the afterword states, the 1st World War is usually seen as "just the prelude to World War II; the *good* war". It's a great injustice: World War I saw the first trully global bloodshed of all times, as countries in a decaying Europe fought for supremacy. The aftermath was really depressing, and a perfect theme for Wraith.
It's also worthy of notice the treatment White Wolf gives to this delicate theme. The War isn't presented as "fun". The War was a terrible event in history, and White Wolf gives it the respect it deserves.
Its a great supplement for DMings in the world war 1 era........1999-10-14
I Loved it! I thought it was a fantastic book! It had alot of the current politics. Including a Coup by a one of the legions commanders. Its great book with alot of plots to gleam from. I'm DMing/Storytelling currently in a World War One setting and I couldn't have done that well without it! Its a must have........trust me!
Great setting and well written.......1999-06-29
I bought this for setting information and ended up liking the Wraith setting so much that I also got the main Wriath book. Great setting for any Stortyteller and it have good artwork also.

Customer Reviews:
great book!!!.......2005-05-23
This book is fantastic!!! It is flawless. I enjoyed it so much I couldn't put it down. I've never before read parts of a book in the morning before going to work, but I just had to find out what was on the next page. When I couldn't read any more - without missing my ride - is the only time I would put it down. If only it would be made into a movie!!!
A well-written lesbian black ops agent.......2004-08-20
When the book opened with the person I assumed to be the main character killing two men, I almost put the book down. But it was so well written that I continued. This black ops agent, forced out of retirement, puts the The Bride in Kill Bill to shame. She is quite amazinngly incredible as an assasin who is working for herself after the first kill. The love story is more believable than the action story, but both story lines keep you interested until they merge and become one fast moving story. Bailey Cameron is an interesting combination of naivete and merciless killing. She switches from assasin to corporate tycoon to lover with great ease and believability. I found myself spending several hours of my free day finishing this book in greatgulps because I had to know what happened next. Check out this author's sense of humour and exploration of sf/horror in "Icehole"
Sleep Deprivation.......2004-07-12
Previous reviewers promised that this book would keep you up late at night and it does. What a great book with strong characters and a believable storyline that kepts you turning pages to see what could possibly happen next. A must read.
What an incredible ride!.......2004-03-18
Fantastic, she has you believing right to the end exactly what she wants you to! The design of her writing makes for an exciting and interesting read, instead of draging you along she prompts you with wit and surreal situations that make you want to believe in the characters like they were real. It is a rare writer that can draw you in with just the right combination of detail and substance. I cannot wait for more work from Kiera!
Killer Book.......2004-02-24
best lesbian book of its genre. this book has all the right ingredients...wit, humor, sex, violence...and doesnt take itself too seriously. you will be up late with this one.
Customer Reviews:
Doomslayers Rock!.......1999-08-02
I'm only writing this 'cause that geek below me gave it two stars. Doomslayers gives you all the info one needs to reach the depths labyrinth...and make it out alive. The fiction is great and the meta-plot stuff is pretty kewl 2. I highly recommend this book to anybody who seriously needs to explore the unknown!
Excellent material.......1999-07-29
I found this book to be filled with excellent material. While there is not much new material, the atmosphere and the writing is filled with hooks that one can put stories together about.
Book, or oversized errata?.......1998-12-01
This book is, at heart, a collection of material that should have been found in other Wraith supplements, marketed under the dubious title of "Doomslayers", which lends more mystique to the work than it really deserves. Most players will find this book to be totally worthless unless they own other sourcebooks, namely "Guildbook: Masquers", "Buried Secrets", "Dark Reflections: Spectres", and "The Dark Kingdom of Jade" among others. It does not stand alone, and even if you own all of the prerequisite titles, it is questionable whether such a limited topic as "Spectre Hunting" deserves the 160 pages that it is given. Also: far too much original fiction and other filler. Buy it for the art, or because you are a die-hard Wraith fan, but otherwise stay away.

Cliched and Too Annoying to Finish!.......2007-10-07
How many cutsie Betsy-like heroines do we need in the paranormal genre? The Answer: One too many...this one. She likes eating ice cream! Thinks Brad Pitt is hot! She spouts cliched inanities as if this is fresh. This book has potential, but is ruined by the stilted attempts at lightness and wit. The plot is fine, the powers interesting, the supporting characters are good. But this book is as generic as Atlanta itself....as in while trying to give insight to the city the author name drops chain restaurants! That is what is wrong with this book. It substitutes vacant, repetitive -isms for actual content and it ruins this book to the point of making it unreadable.
Don't waste your time, more frustration than its worth.

Unique sense of humor to match my own!.......2007-09-22
I loved this book since I picked it up! I thought the concept of a wraithe-character was unique, and presented very well in this book. I loved Zoe's sense of humor most of all. She'd make little comments throughout the story, about events or other characters that kept me laughing the whole way through. I thought the character development as well as the story line was endearing and remarkable. I loved this book and have absolutely no complaints about it, except that I don't see a sequel available.... (yet????)
New Urban Paranormal Series..........2007-09-21
Although I put this book down twice when I first started reading it, the third time was it. It got me hooked and I found myself enjoying the characters, all of them, and the slightly skewed heroine, Zoe. I'll certainly read the next book in this new series.
Terrible, I could not bring myself to finish it!.......2007-09-17
I think this book and its main character could both be described as air-headed and trivial. I could not finish it and wished I could get my money back. It showed some promise as a fantasy detective novel but had too many weak spots and irritating characters. This is chick lit at its worst...please do not call rape character-building, please do not have the main character, or any others, regularly speak to the reader--especially with stupid comments! Please do not have ghosts that are also air-headed, stereotypical characters with little useful to contribute. I'm sorry to dump all over this book but I feel that potential buyers need to beware...unless you enjoy reading novels with brainless, weak heroines, annoying secondary characters and ignorant dialogue and only slightly there plot, skip this one.

Customer Reviews:
An invaluable sourcebook for Wraith: The Oblivion!.......1998-02-16
For all you Wraith players and storytellers who don't have any spectres in the game-- You have NO IDEA what you are missing! And, if you do have spectres but not this sourcebook, you could be doing a LOT better!
"Dark Reflections: Spectres" is Black Dog's first Wraith book. It does a GREAT job describing the mentality and characteristics of Wraiths who have fallen into their shadow. Storytellers will see how to properly incorporate spectres into the game, and players will learn how to properly play them.
