4 out of 5 stars LOVE THE CARDS.......2007-03-01

I REALLY LOVE THESE CARDS, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL. I DONT LIKE THE BOOK NEAR AS MUCH AS THE CARDS. THEY TEND TO GO WITH THE OLD TAROT MEANINGS AND NOT ENOUGH ALTERNATIVE OR OTHER POSSIBLE MEANINGS

5 out of 5 stars Celtic Dragon Tarot Kit.......2007-02-13

I absolutely love this tarot. Cards are a little bit bigger than I am used to, but that's o.k. Both ladies, D.J. And Lisa did really good job.

5 out of 5 stars The Celtic Dragon Tarot Kit - A Review.......2007-01-27

The Celtic Dragon Tarot Kit has been around for six years now, and has become a popular deck for readers who like to experience a sense of magic and story as they move through a reading. Special and unique features of this kit is the sections of spells and meditations which lead the reader through various exercises in utilizing the tarot imagery and dragon energy to perform sacred rituals and visualizations. For instance, a spell for prosperity involves lighting a gold and a green candle, placing the three cards: Ten of Pentacles, The Empress, and the Ace of Pentacles on an altar, then softly affirming, "Good vibrations, prosperity, success and money, come to me. All good things grow, no fear or strife, prosperity comes into my life."

Created by D. J. Conway and illustrated by Lisa Hunt, published by the well-established company, Llewellyn Publishing, this deck offers delicate, storybook graphic images using soft colors, delicate lines and an old book illustrative approach to each card's visuals. Lisa's artwork draws into the days of old, when dragons were a common part of the world's trajectory and belief system.

The Celtic Dragon Tarot deck has the same basic structure as more traditional tarot decks with 78 cards in total in four suits, Pentacles, Cups, Swords and Wands, with a couple of departures. The authors correlate Wands with the Air element, and Swords with Fire. They also portray the Magician as a powerful woman, and the High Priest (male) replaces the High Priestess. As well, the Devil (Number 15 Major Arcana) is called Chains in this deck. The icing on the cake, of course, is the strategic use of dragons on each and every card. The back of each card has a marble like finish with a delicate celtic knot design.

The Celtic Dragon Deck is unique, offering delicate beautiful illustrations which embody the sacred energy of the various dragons with noble, artistic figures and ancient Celtic surroundings. For instance, the Fool is a young Celtic blonde fellow, dressed in a traditional tunic, breeches and high boots, with his proverbial staff in his hand. He walks through a thick wood, and meets up with four young dragons, one blue (Water), one yellow (Air), one red (Fire), and behind him, one green (Earth). Between the branches of the trees, one can see the eerie peering eyes of the full grown dragons watching him carefully. Or the Empress, is illustrated as a lovely, joyful middle aged woman dressed in a long celtic royal dress, clutching a bouquet of roses, with a huge laughing smile on her face, as she gazes into the eyes of a laughing mid sized green dragon. They both look like they enjoy each other's company very much. Her mate, the Emperor is portrayed as a wise handsome middle aged man, leaning in a relaxed manner against the reclined figure of a huge blue Water dragon. They both fondly look on at the Emperor's two young children, a son and daughter, both playing happily with tiny baby dragons.

The Lovers is an interesting card, showing two dragons gazing at each other instead of a man and woman. One dragon is yellow and lies on the bank of a stream peering into the eyes of a half submerged blue Water dragon. Similarly, the Hermit is a huge Green dragon perched on a rock face, deep in thought as he reads sacred transcripts. His lair is surrounded by various Celtic petroglyphs carved into the rock faces.

Conway and Hunt include a 240 page full sized book that features interpretations, tarot spreads, information about the dragons, and the aforementioned spells and meditation sections.

I highly recommend the Celtic Dragon Tarot - it makes the perfect gift for yourself or a loved one. It will appeal to the taste of many, especially those drawn to Celtic lore and Dragons in particular.

2 out of 5 stars Lovely art, little depth.......2007-01-19

I'm a collector of tarot decks and have many both novel and genuine: this one, sadly, most definitely falls to novel.

The art is beautiful and the intentions clear- but if you are looking for a genuine tarot deck, this one is not for you. The backs are poorly designed and make it easy to tell when one card is reversed and when it is not when face down; and the book itself offers no meaning to a reversed card. This cuts out fully half of the meanings of the cards and how they are to be read.

If you are looking for a beautiful deck, then this is most certainly it- but if you want an actual divination deck, it's suggested you look elsewhere.

5 out of 5 stars Wow !!.......2006-11-13

I bought this as a gift for my daughter and she fell in love with it. The images of the dragons are amazing, the cards are beautiful and hold up well, and the book is very good. We really loved the whole concept of the dragons, one card has a dragon and a cat that we just thought was the best. I would explore more products from this author/illustrator and really enjoyed this whole set. worth the money !!!

Inner Child Cards bring charming, fairy-tale images to the age-old tradition of the tarot. Authors and professional astrologers Isha and Mark Lerner intended to offer a fresh, innocent perspective on tarot readings while also staying grounded in recognizable archetypes. And what better way to tap into our true spirit than to recall the soul-inspiring stories of childhood? "Fairy stories, told and retold, enrich the depths of our hearts from which our hopes and ideals are born," the authors explain. "No other literary creation has such a fundamental effect upon us than has the fairy tale." Indeed, Little Red Riding Cap with her basket of goodies and her outstretched finger holding a butterfly speaks eloquently to the fragile process of individuation. The Rapunzel card with its maiden's long braid (which is eventually shorn by the evil enchantress) and the blind prince speaks to challenging times when we are cut loose from the strands of our past and must go forward in blind faith. All of the cards are lovely, with their rich images and rainbow borders. But it is the excellent accompanying text that offers readers the most enchanting journey into the past as they make meaning out of the present. --Gail Hudson

Book Description

A new and updated edition of the popular tarot deck that reawakens the child in all of us.

• Over 100,000 copies of the first edition sold in 7 languages.

• Uses the important archetypes of childhood fairy tales to awaken emotional memory and heal the child within.

• Excellent for dream work, the recovery process, and use with children.

Inner Child Cards is a tarot system that helps us interact with the world's most potent archetypes. The authors assign an archetypal childhood story to each image in the traditional tarot deck. Cinderella aligns with the Moon card, traditionally associated with the power of dreams and visions. Sleeping Beauty parallels the Death card with its theme of personal metamorphosis. Little Red Cap stands in for the Fool (the innocent).

Before the Age of Reason higher learning was transmitted through archetypal characters in stories and fairy tales. In modern times these all-important stories have been relegated to a secondary position, with no recognition of their deeper meaning. The whimsical art and familiar characters of the Inner Child Cards will awaken dormant emotional memory that has been trapped in long-forgotten childhood stories. Tarot has always had an uncanny capacity to act as a "hall of mirrors" reflecting the true trajectory of life. By referencing fairy-tale archetypes, Inner Child Cards gives adults an especially clear reflection of the child within and imaginative access to the soul's own personal truth. And because of their playful nature, these cards are equally well suited for use with children.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing, Colorful, Insightful & Inspirational!.......2006-11-23

I have around 20 Tarot decks and I got this one in just this week. I have to say it is one of my very favorite decks already. The artwork is brilliant and almost child-like, but beautifully enlightening. The suits are hearts (cups), crystals (pentacles), magic wands (wands) and swords. The cards relate to characters from well-known fairy tales. The Fool card is Little Red Riding Hood.

The accompanying book very succinctly and eloquently describes the meaning/tales behind each card. It's a very positive, uplifting and upbeat deck. I did the five card C-H-I-L-D reading (described in the book) this morning and it was right-on, as if the cards had known me from the get-go. I don't think I've ever gotten such a wonderful first-time reading from a new deck.

I have to disagree with the reviewer who said this deck isn't for beginners. I think this deck stands alone and that anyone could quickly learn the basics of Tarot with it.

The cards are over-sized but easy to shuffle diagonally. They come in a sturdy storage box which holds the cards and book nicely. I highly recommend this set if you're ready to learn more about yourself and this journey we call life.

5 out of 5 stars Not sure I'd recommend for a beginner, but..........2005-08-26

I have four other tarot card decks - Rider Waite, Medieval Scapini, Celtic Dragon and Shakespearean - and have been told that I'm a very good reader (I've never had a disappointed readee yet). However, I haven't until this point had a deck where I actually "feel" anything physically from the cards. I may sense strong ties with the Rider Waite and be able to tell a story and make connections based on the images, but the vibrations just aren't there (especially with the Medieval Scapini, which I haven't used enough, or the Shakespearean tarot, which has breathtaking artwork but might as well be written in Sanskrit for all the sense I can make of it).

The Inner Child tarot deck is totally different. From the moment I opened the box and held these cards, they felt full and rich and alive. I truly love holding these cards. I can actually feel rather than merely sense when I have shuffled enough, and the readings have so much more depth than the rest of my decks. The metaphorical journey of the soul as a child growing up is so appropriate, I feel, to the journey of the human being, and is beautifully illustrated in the cards and the accompanying book.

I love how the cards are explained by Ms. Lerner, and though some of the cards differ from the "standard" deck, her explanations of the cards make sense. As I said in my title, I'm not sure I'd recommend these cards to a beginning reader, as "hearts" for cups and "crystals" for pentacles could be a bit confusing. Of course, "hearts" are what the cups are talking about, and "crystals" makes the Earth portion of the deck seem much less materialistic than pentacles can sometimes read. The artwork also didn't make sense - coming from a Rider Waite background - on some of the cards until I read the explanation, and then it was abundantly clear how the meaning of the cards tied in with the illustrations, and the tie-ins are wonderful.

Ms. Lerner puts a positive spin to the cards, which some people may not like. I feel it's appropriate, as how life affects you depends largely on how you look at it. For instance, the Tower (in this deck Rapunzel) is only a bad thing if you don't like or resist change. If you look for the growth in the change, try to find what the experience is trying to teach you and try to take something from it (which admittedly is not always easy), then at the very least you'll learn how to roll with the punches and be better prepared the next time some massive upheaval disrupts your life. So, while many people may find this positive spin to be a bad thing, I don't believe it is. I believe it's a benefit of the deck, unlike, for instance, the Celtic Dragon tarot, which is beautiful but never has anything to say other than doom and gloom, no matter how many readings I do with it (and I unfortunately know many readers who say the same thing about that particular deck). Though it may sound trite, Monty Python really did say it best when they advised to "Always look on the bright side of life". This deck helps one do that and truly shows that there are lessons to be learned in all that we do. It is a very spiritually grounded deck and I feel very powerful. I certainly feel it's a good deck for anyone interested in developing spiritually.

Since I am well versed in fairy tales, some of the descriptions do seem long and even redundant, especially for the major arcana, but I am very aware that not everyone is as familiar with all the fairy tales used as I am and I would not hold this against the deck. I really can't say enough good things about this deck - the cards are simply wonderful to hold, they vibrate with a beautiful energy, and the child-like drawings are lovely. Though I don't do readings for children, anyone who does would be pleased with these, I'm sure. I highly recommend these to anyone serious about the tarot.

5 out of 5 stars colors are awesome!.......2005-07-28

I really have nothing bad to say about this deck, the only thing is that they are very large, which makes them difficult to handle and shuffle, but there's so much detail that they really need to be that size! The book that goes with it is forever helpful. Each and every reading is different, and always noticing something new. The artwork is beutiful and sometimes I just like to look at them! 5 stars all the way. I wouldn't want any other deck, I've looked and looked and just had to come back to this one!

5 out of 5 stars Go Ahead, You Know You Want Them!.......2005-01-31

I also looked at this deck over and over before buying them. Why did I wait? I am not sure and I only regret I wasted time not enjoying this fantastic deck. I agree with another reviewer in that I do NOT like negative images, so this deck fulfilled that need. It is charming and just plain delightful! Buy the Deck, Enjoy it and Recommend to Friends!!!

5 out of 5 stars New Insight to Tarot, Astrology and Fairy Tales.......2004-07-29

I bought this tarot deck and book and didn't use it for years. I tried unsuccessfully to sell it. Eventually I opened it up and started using the cards. I'm glad I never sold it. This deck has brought me new insight to tarot and my readings. Through reading about each fairytale, corresponding astrology signs, and card numbers, I've been able to see karmic lessons I couldn't see with my regular deck. I've also learned how to read and understand each Major Arcana card better. I recommend it if you like reading about fairy tales and folklore. The pictures are beautiful and well done in a large card that needs to be suffled differently from the smaller decks. The only thing the book fails to do is to give full interpretations of what each card means. But I gave it 5 stars because of the involved work that went into using fairytales to tell us the story behind each card.

5 out of 5 stars Wow..........2007-09-13

I absolutely love this deck. It fits very easily into my hands- it's only slightly bigger than the average deck of playing cards. I really wasn't sure how I was going to feel about these when I ordered them, and even while I was looking through them I had mixed feelings. I have used my Enchantment Deck for years and it was almost as though I was neglecting a friend... But as soon as I started to shuffle this deck I was just like "Wow". I haven't been able to put them down! I still love me Enchantment Deck and use them regularly, but usually just for myself. These are great cards though and the little booklet it comes with is actually quite nice!

5 out of 5 stars Guidance from Camelot.......2007-07-25

One of my earliest Tarot teachers always emphasized that it's not enough to just memorize the "definitions" of each card ~ it's important to explore what you SEE in each card each time. This deck is fabulous for that kind of intuitive reading style.

While the accompanying book is wonderful and thorough in the Tarot definitions and Arthurian legend background that are provided, the cards themselves open up into cinematic scenes that offer insight and guidance that shift with each throw. The deck shimmers with life and with wisdom. It became my favorite the first time I used it.

5 out of 5 stars very good .......2007-03-09

well my book is different than the one I see at this time but I really love this book and Tarot Deck. I am very in tune with the energy of it. I am very happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite and most-used deck!.......2006-06-12

I have read tarot for 23 years, and this is the deck that I use the most. The thing about finding a deck to read with is that you have to find one that speaks to you - one that has images and symbols that resonate with you. As a lifelong lover of the Arthurian Traditions, I have gravitated to all things Arthurian from books to films right down to Tarot decks. I have several that are Celtic/Arthurian but this one has more depth than most. Yes, there's a dark side, but how else are you to balance the light? If you read with an unbalanced deck how can your readings be anything BUT unbalanced? One-sided? These cards are pen/ink and watercolor and even I think a bit of airbrush from time to time - the images take you deeper into Arthurian legend to some of the more obscure legends and lessons within those legends. You don't JUST get to see Gawain and the Green Knight but you get to meet Ragnell and so many others - you get to see through the symbols and colors that blend so well something deeper than simple pentacles or coins/rods or wands/swords/cups or grails......you find the meaning that goes so much deeper and into the crux of the questioner's questions and/or issues at hand. If your love is Arthurian Tradition and you're drawn to such things, this is an amazing deck to use - but it's NOT for beginners.

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful Illustrations/Clouded Divination.......2005-07-09

This set is done very beautifully. I have always been fascinated by the legend of King Arthur. This artist clearly has devoted a great deal of time and effort into this project. She is undoubtedly successful.

As a Tarot for divination, I would not recommend this particular pack. For the collector and Arthurian buff this is superb! Especially the book Keeper of Words. There seem to be some common thread here with the basic mythology and the traditonal tarot. As with many themed decks, this is historically disproven.
Interesting observation on the authors behalf.

The Major Tumps are wonderfully matched with key figures in the Legend. Ms. Ferguson has done an excellent job with this Arthur as the emperor is a given. Morgan La Fey as the Moon is sublime. The colors are all blues, purples and gray giving the overall quality a very otherworldly, sleepy feel.

There is a dark side to this deck. I do not professionally read with this set because it has many dark overtones. This may be fine for some. The backs are not the best in design as well. I would recommend a reprint with a more intricate Celtic motif. These cards themselves are rather flimsy and may chip after numerous readings. No direct fault of the artist.

Maybe it is the Legend itself, it is a nice myth, but should not be used for divination or spiritual seeking. I believe I see the Legend in a new light. It is not a positive one. We find a mishmash of Roman, Pagan Celtic and early Christian all tossed together in a French fairie tale. This says a lot to me. I still like the story. It is more romantic with Ms. Fergusons translation and illustration. It is also interesting to note the she has an illustrated edition of La Morte D'Arthur. This is an excellent companion as well. Perhaps in the future, we can look forward to an animated big screen adaptation by the artist herself.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Tarot Book!.......2006-01-18

"But whatever you consciously know about a card is only a finger pointing toward its true meaning within a specific reading. Each card in a reading has a story to tell-one that has never been told before exactly the same way-and it is a delicately intuitive process to hear that tale and to understand what it means." - From the book

For most Tarot enthusiasts, learning the cards by memorizing key words is the first step towards making sense of a reading. However, interpreting Tarot cards in the context of spreads-layout positions with assigned meanings-gets a bit tricky. For example, how would you read a traditionally positive card like the 2 of Cups when it lands in a position like "what's working against you"? Or how would you read the 10 of Swords in the "what's working for you" position?

Another challenge for many readers is interpreting a spread in terms of how the cards weave together to tell a unique story. No card is an island, and context is a crucial element to reading the Tarot effectively and accurately when interpreting a spread.

In his book Tarot Tells the Tale: Explore Three Card Readings Through Familiar Stories, Tarot master and author James Ricklef allows readers to peek over his shoulder as he demonstrates the art of using 3-card spreads to answer a variety of client questions. Using his popular "Ask KnightHawk" format, Ricklef poses hypothetical questions from famous mythological, historical, and fictional characters and then answers them using a 3-card reading. While the author could have "cheated"-drawing appropriate cards based on hindsight or knowledge of a story-he instead deals random cards and interprets them in light of the posed question.

Using a variety of decks-including the Universal Waite, Sacred Rose, Hanson-Roberts, Spiral, and Aquarian Tarot-Ricklef's alter-ego KnightHawk compassionately and insightfully answers questions posed by Thomas Jefferson, Dorothy (Wizard of Oz), Joan of Arc, Pygmalion, Marja Sklodowska (Marie Curie), Hamlet, Dr. Henry Jekyll (Jekyll and Hyde), Albert Einstein, The Prodigal Son, Cinderella, Psyche, and many more. In addition to relaying the interpretation to the "client" as if it were a "real" reading, Ricklef provides in-depth commentary on the cards that show up and why he interprets them as he does.

For example, it's downright uncanny how the Magician shows up in Cinderella's reading (can you say "Fairy Godmother"?) or how the reversed Queen of Wands shows up in the reading for Marie Curie (a brilliant physicist and chemist who definitely had "problems with radiance" since she died from leukemia caused by radiation exposure).

Believing that clients are ultimately seeking hope from a reading, Ricklef skillfully demonstrates how even "difficult" cards can impart advice, encouragement and hope. Countering the idea that this approach is Pollyannaish, he asserts that it is really "a reflection of the balance of life, as well as a choice to find a meaningful lesson in every experience."

Although the bulk of Tarot Tells the Tale is the 3-card Ask KnightHawk readings, there is an abundance of additional information included in this book, including:

* How to construct a good question or re-phrase a less-than-ideal question
* The many permutations of the basic 3-card spread
* How to break down the Celtic Cross into mini-spreads
* The "5 D's" of reading reversals
* How to create your own spreads for specific needs
* Numerological and elemental associations
* Ethical considerations
* Comments and advice for each of the 78 cards

The "Ask KnightHawk" template is not only a unique way to demonstrate how 3-card spreads can be created and interpreted, but also amazingly instructive for both Tarot beginners and seasoned readers. Written with engaging prose, Tarot Tells the Tale is a fascinating book showing the depth and breadth of 3-card readings, as well as the art of constructing and interpreting client-specific spreads. You'll not only become a better Tarot reader after reading Tarot Tells the Tale, but also gain additional insight into the cards themselves. For example, it never occurred to me that while the Hermit withdraws from society, The Hanged Man withdraws from *activity*. The difference is distinctive, and is but one of the many helpful tidbits you'll find in Tarot Tells the Tale.

3 out of 5 stars Well-Written.......2005-03-01

I love the idea of this book. After some introductory stuff (which is quite good), Ricklef gives a series of readings for characters from history, myth, and "familiar" stories. I put quotations around familiar because I was not familiar with about a third of the stories. Ricklef relies heavily on Greek myth and Shakespeare for inspiration. For someone with a more classical education this would probably be great, but I majored in physics and managed to get by reading only 2 Shakespeare plays in my life (neither of which were in this book). Of the Greek myths, I knew about half of them.

I throughly enjoyed the readings done for charaters I did know, such as the Ugly Duckling, Belle from the Beauty and the Beast, and Einstein. Also, the card descriptions in the back, which seem almost as an afterthought, are very good. Ricklef gives some relevant life advice after each card. Quite inspiring!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best Tarot books ever!.......2004-04-29

I have been a professional clairvoyant and Tarot reader for 17 years, so I have quite a collection of books on the Tarot.

I must say, that this book is one of the best books on the Tarot that I have ever read! It is good not only for someone who is learning the Tarot, but even for experienced readers.

I love the way that the author uses fairy tales to explore Tarot readings and three-card spreads.

This book is chock-full of information, anyone interested in the Tarot should have it in their library!

5 out of 5 stars Tarot Tells a Fascinating and Fun Tale.......2003-12-08

I just read "Tarot Tells the Tale" and it's a blast. This book not only helped me construct traditional Tarot card spreads, it did it in a fun, interesting way. The author has taught me how to interpret the cards and their meanings.
As a novice card reader, the book's whimsical breezy style put me at ease, and I saw relationships and patterns in the cards that I've never seen before. But it's the NightHawk readings that are the most fun. Imagine...what if Dorothy had sought the Tarot for advice on how to get off the farm? Or what if Dr. Jekyll sought advice on how to get rid of Mr. Hyde? It stirs your imagination, and, I'm learning, imagination is the key you need to unlock insight on your own Tarot deck. It's how you see the cards and their meanings to you that is the most important lesson.
The author presented the information in a such fun and fresh way...that it was a total delight to read.

5 out of 5 stars A must for anyone who seriously wants to read Tarot!!.......2003-12-03

This book has really helped me read the Tarot better. This book is much much more than a book of card definitions. Rickleff does readings for characters like Cinderella, Joan of Arc, George Baily from the movie "It's a Wonderful Life".

By doing readings for familiar characters Rickleff gives us wonderful examples of how the cards come into play in a reading. This has given me a deeper understanding of the tarot and how to do my own Tarot readings.

Another great thing about this book is the section on reversals. I have found his approach on how to use reversals extremely helpful and usable.

5 out of 5 stars For the young at heart.......2007-07-31

I really love the cards & the book is huge, packed full of
information, needless to say I've not been able to read it
all but what I've read I found most helpful.
The cards are extremely big and would probably be a problem
for people with small hands, I remind myself to be attentive
when I shuffle but otherwise they are great.

5 out of 5 stars Creative and insightful companion book to the Inner Child Cards.......2007-03-21

This is a wonderful book! Even if you already own the original Inner Child Cards book by Isha Lerner and Mark Lerner, you will not want to miss out on this one. Isha Lerner's Inner Child Cards Workbook provides insightful, NEW material that expands on the teachings found in the original Inner Child Cards book. The first third of this workbook is devoted to insightful teachings on fairy tales, the tarot and alchemy, plus two chapters devoted to new layouts and additinal uses for the cards. The rest of the book is devoted to the individual cards, providing discussion on the traditional meaning of each card, the fairy-tale lore associated with each of them, and a lisitng of keyword associations. Additionally, Isha Lerner provides three questions for each card that encourage the reader to explore their meanings further on a more personal level, and to take into consideration possible courses of action. The major arcana are provided with affirmation statements as well. All in all, a great resource!

Personal transformation. I bought this book because I wanted to really learn how to give a reading with the Inner Child Cards but I found it to be helpful in my path of personal transformation. I use these cards as additional or as clarification cards in a reading.

Chapter I: The Feminine in Fairy Tales
Both good and evil characters in fairy tales are ultimately good
The Feminine Nature of Fairy Tales
Each Character is a different aspect of our own psyche

Chapter 2: Initiation, Enchantment and Awakening
Initiation: Corresponding to Alchemical Stage of Melanois
Enchantment: Corresponding to Alchemical Stage of Leukosis
Awakening: Corresponding to Alchemical State of Xanthosis and Iosis

Chapter 3: The Archetypes of the Soul and Karmic Imprints
Chapter 4: Fairy Tale Mysticism and the Major Arcana
Chapter 5: Mirrors to Humanity
Chapter 6: Additional ways to use the Inner Child Cards (this section includes Past Life Regression, Dreamwork and even how to use the cards in playing Rummy).
Chapter 7: New Layouts (includes 4 new spreads)
Chapter 8: The 22 Major Arcana Cards (gives the traditional meaning of the cards, the inner child meaning of the cards and questions and affirmations). I found the questions to be helpful in my own journal work. I loved using the affirmations daily.
Chapter 9: The Minor Arcana (same as chapter 8, gives traditional meaning, inner child meaning and questions and affirmations for each card).

For me personally, I liked this book because it helps you learn fairy-tales (knowledge I was lacking somehow - and I enjoyed learning how fairy tales represent each lesson we learn in life, how it is a mirror of who we are, and others around us). I found the readings to be accurate in describing what I've gone through in life and how I did meet these fairy tale characters along my path. I enjoyed answering the questions it presents for each card and the affirmations are very nice. The book is well written and packed with information.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Very whimsical !!.......2006-11-13

I really loved this deck and book. I teach
english, so the concept of using fairy tales, nursery rhymes and folk tales to teach tarot is wonderful. It has been done before, but this deck and book really get into the concept and it is worth the money. A warning, I bought the book and deck separate, which was a mistake as it cost more. I would get the entire set together if I were to do it again. I really love the cards, the images and the stories. I have made good use of this deck already.

5 out of 5 stars Traveling Tarot Cards.......2006-08-02

If you love the Inner Child Cards, you will love this deck. It is much smaller so it is portable and easy to handle. The art work is very detailed so you have something to focus on. The only "problem" was that there was no enclosed book. If you are a by the book reader this is a negative but if you are like me, it prevents you from second guessing your messages.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Companion to the Deck.......2004-12-21

This book accompanies the Whimsical Tarot Deck. While there is supposed to be a gift box set, I have only seen the book and decks sold separately and when I purchased the deck, I also purchased the book. I have reviewed the deck under it's listing.

The book's layout is easy to follow. It begins with an introduction to the purpose and style of the cards, use and care of the deck, discussion of various layouts of tarot readings and then meanings of the cards as designed by Dorothy Morrison. The Major Arcana is first, followed by the Minor Arcana in order and each card has a black and white graphic rendition of the card so it is easy to visualize and follow.

The discussion in the beginning of the book focuses on children reading Tarot. This may sound surprising to some but to those of us who have our kids around us all the time, the curiosity of child is only second to how persistent they can be to know about things that attract their attention. Ms. Morrison offers assistance in helping us introduce the tarot to our children. From examining the cards to blessing and handling the cards, it is a basic handbook for introducing our children to simple, basic divination. In the layouts section, there are suggested layouts for use by kids, and it is grouped by ages, from very simple one card readings to more complex spreads for the experienced older child.

There may be questions as to the card's subject. If we are not familiar with all the fairy tales that Ms. Morrison has included in this deck, this book will help you out with that. For example, the Queen of Rods, while looking very queenly, is actually Cinderella. If you look her up in the book, the association is clearly laid out. "No matter how dire her circumstances or how horrible her treatment, she never let it get her down. She just kept on working, kept on smiling, and kept on with the business of living. In the end, she prevailed and won her heart's desire: a charming prince with a gentle heart, a fast horse, and all the love she could ask."

Ms. Morrison is very clear in her meanings; nothing is hidden and nothing is left open and mysterious. This is the plain English Ms. Morrison we know and love. She even gives details of how she designed the cards. To continue "Dressed in the yellow and green of creative growth, the Queen of Rods is the eternal cheerleader. She loves everyone and everything." While this is very insightful for the reader, it also gives us insight into how Ms. Morrison is guiding us along as we search for answers in our own lives. Very clear, very easy to understand and so insightful, this handbook is a guide as well as a companion to using the deck.

She also offers some advice and insights into what this card may mean if it shows up in your readings. Again, referencing the Queen of Cups, Cinderella: "When the Queen of Cups graces your spread, it's time to look at life with a loving eye." Further down, she adds "Remember that love is a gentle, kind, and nurturing emotion that carries with it many responsibilities." She goes into what she means by this and you are left with much food for thought as to how it can reflect in your own life.

The book is the signpost to be used with the deck which presents the road as we are walking down it today. These roads change as we make decisions which affect our future. When we use these tools, we look for ones that we can relate to, that can be easily interpreted by us and also provide some enjoyment when we use them.

There is a small bibliography in the back of the book, and a good table of contents, but this book is good on it's own for ease of use. I believe Ms. Morrison has provided us with a great companion book to her delightful deck as well as solid advice and practices if we wish to introduce our children to the basics of tarot. boudica

5 out of 5 stars Best tarot deck ever to introduce to the beginner.......2004-10-09

If you're not the cutsey type or won't appreciate the artwork because you're "darker" or more "serious" than that, all I can say is, lighten up. This is a great deck and a great springboard to learn from before getting into something as esoteric as Rider Waite or Crowley Thoth.

Everybody knows the fairytales and even if you don't, it's fun to look them up. These cards are definitely more accessible to us modern pagans and witches!

I would highly recommend this for the absolute and not so absolute beginner (a welcome addition to any tarot library, as it's less intimidating than other deck images!).

5 out of 5 stars Quality time with Grandma!.......2002-06-13

My four year old grandson has this deck. He picks out a card and brings it to me to tell him the story. After he hears the story, we talk about the life lessons the story holds. What a wonderful way to spend "quality time" with my grandson!! I highly recommend this deck to anyone with children or grandchildren!! This deck is wonderful for all ages. It brings back memories of the fairy tales and nursery rhymes we loved as children, and brings the stories into new light. The story or nursery rhyme that goes with each card fits in excellently with the meaning of the card. For instance, the Lovers card is Beauty and the Beast. How perfect!!

5 out of 5 stars beautiful and easy to use.......2007-01-04

this is one of the most beautiful decks I have ever seen. I also appreciated the intricacy. I recommend this for serious tarot readers as opposed to the casual dabbler as it is a bit complicated ( I like that!)

4 out of 5 stars Attractive.......2005-06-04

What originally drew me to this deck was the Empress card, known as The Mother Goddess card. The artwork is beautiful, and I found all the cards in the major arcana to be very attractive. The court cards are exceptional too.

I did have some difficulty with the minor arcana, but I am not an experienced tarot reader and there were not enough symbols to attempt any sort of meaning. I found myself constantly referring to the book. A more experienced tarot reader (or someone who has the meanings of all the cards memorized) would enjoy this deck, but I found it rather difficult to read with. What I did find interesting about the minor arcana was that if you laid the cards out in order they are actually taking you down a very obvious visual pathway.

The book itself is fun, and she has some interesting tarot layouts to try.

This is not a light and fluffy deck, and it gives readings that are no nonsense and forthright. And where I don't believe it's an easy deck for the beginning tarot reader I wouldn't let that deter anyone from trying it.... there's always the book to turn to.

Overall I have found this deck to give powerful readings, and have enjoyed working with it.

1 out of 5 stars Wheres the Cards?.......2004-05-04

I ordered this book online at Amazon.com. I thought the first couple of chapters were pretty good. But where are the cards? This is a book, they don't even provide you with pages you can make your own xerox copies of the cards.

Unless you happen to be particularly talented as an artist and have time to create and paint your own cards I would recommend getting a book that comes with a deck you can get your hands on.

5 out of 5 stars It's quite lovely.......2002-11-06

As an Irish gent recently relocated to America, I was enchanted to come across this tarot deck. Ms. Stepanich does quite a nice job tying the tarot into the druidic/bardic mysteries, to which my family lineage is connected. I think the other chaps out to get this Irish-American woman should just relax and see the spirit reflected here rather than continue to attempt to denegrate her every move.

5 out of 5 stars Totally Connected.......2002-07-17

I have other decks but this deck is the one that seems to keep me close. Ever since I bought this deck its become like a treasured friend. I find it extremely accurate and doesnt color the reading doing it on yourself as opposed to others. You can feel the energy in your hands as well as throughout your whole body..its that strong. I highly recommend it.

Rachel Pollack and Caitlin Matthews have done the improbable: they've assembled a theme anthology of excellent original stories. They required only that tarot cards be used in the construction of the story, and the 16 contributors were liberated by this rather than restricted. Stories by M. John Harrison, Rachel Pollack, and Michael Moorcock are the most explicitly structured on the tarot, Pollack using cards of her own design. The superb "The Wind Box" by Scott Bradfield is narrated in language so plain as to often be nearer poetry than prose. Gwyneth Jones's "The Lovers," too, is simple, direct, and strong. Many of the stories are about journeys (to be expected with tarot), but they cover varied landscapes, and all of them explore the myths and human nature embodied in the cards.

A collection of stories inspired by that staple of New Age life, the Tarot Deck. An interesting method of generating story ideas, and the quality of the stories as a whole is fairly high. Of course, as in any collection, some stories outshine others... If you like the Tarot, or are just looking for a collection of Fantasy tales, this book is for you
