Book Description

How to Draw a Dragon: "Cautiously approach the dragon, offer it a piece of candy or a little sister, and draw while it happily munches away."

From the creator of the wildly popular website NeonDragonArt.com, DRAGONART shows you how to create awesome, delightful and frightening beasts, armed only with a pencil and ink pen. You'll begin your quest by conquering a super-easy dragon that even the most foolish of ogres could draw. You'll forge onward to discover simple secrets and spiffy tricks for making creatures friendly or fierce, sorrowful or cynical… drawing them from all different perspectives, in flight or at rest (so vain, those dragons - they love to strike a pose!). You'll also learn how to incorporate various details to make each beast original.

Because dragons enjoy having others around to terrorize, disembowel and occasionally hang out with, this book will also teach you how to create a whole cast of creatures, including mythical griffins, guardian gargoyles and deadly basilisks. All this within the curiously compelling, beautifully beastly and brightly colored pages that you will soon hold in your hands, which by now are no doubt trembling with keen anticipation. So quit dragon your feet! (Ugh, wyrms hate puns!) Kindly buy this dragon favorite and make your wildest, wickedest, fire-breathingest fantasies come true!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT HOW TO BOOK.......2007-10-03

My kids have always been frustrated with "how to draw" books. I don't know what it is about how Neon explains things, but not only can they get the instructions, but the results are great! Conversational tone, can-do attitude? I'd expect something with two heads, four limbs and wings to be harder to draw than your basic horse, but they can do it! Brava!

4 out of 5 stars Dragon art: How to Draw Fantastic Dragons and Fantasy Creatures.......2007-09-05

The examples in the book are very good but for the more advance young artist. The pictures would also be good for copying and using as coloring for younger artists. Would think this book is more for about 10 years and up.

5 out of 5 stars Very nice book . . . .......2007-08-16

This book is wonderful. It's fun to look at even if you're not in it for the instructional value it has. What makes it unique is that it gives the reader a little history on each creature.
I wouldn't consider this a 'beginners' book as some of the techniques are slightly advanced, but I think anyone can benefit from what this book offers.
This book would be very beneficial to tattoo artists.

Great book... I have not used it that much yet but it has helped with side views of characters.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing book!.......2007-06-26

This is a beautiful and amazing book. The pictures are of excellent quality and the pages are colorful, thick and glossy. I purchased this book as a gift for a 13 year old girl who likes dragons, but who has no training in drawing or art. When this book arrived at my house, I wanted to keep it for myself I was so impressed with it! When the girl unwrapped this book, her face immediately lit up! The next day, her mom reported to me that she'd been up until 3 a.m. going through the book! The following weekend, the girl had drawn several nice pictures of dragons and she was still carrying the book around. We went to another kind of party with lots of kids, dancing, music etc. etc. But I could hardly believe my eyes an hour into the party. Because the vast majority of the young people at the party, aged 11-18, were all sitting at a table, quietly going through the book and drawing dragons! There they sat, enthralled for hours on end. It was like magic! I think that any kid (aged 10+ maybe?) or any adult who likes fantasy creatures would enjoy this book. The book contains information about fantasy creatures (the different kinds etc.) which is why I think the concept works so well. It mixes informational content about the art of sketching, with the anatomical features of dragons and fantasy creatures. So kids (and people interested in fantasy creatures) are as interested in the text and the skill involved, as they are in the actual pictures. And boy do I feel great about getting the right gift for a 13 year old girl. Do you realize how hard they are to buy for?

3 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting.......2007-09-03

This book was not at all what I was expecting from Stephen King. It is written like a fairy tale story. It took me a while to get into it, but once I got used to the writing style it was not bad. The characters where well written, and the story moves at a good pace. I found I did not get hooked on the story completely until about half way through, and then I could not put it down.
It helped me to put things in perspective when a friend told me that Stephen King wrote this book for his kid. A fairy tale of Princes, and dragons, and dark wizards, death and friendship. A story written by King that his child could actually be allowed to read :0)

5 out of 5 stars I am the King.......2007-08-28

once again an amazing book from mr. stephen king. not at all like his other books but still very very good. Also unlike his other books there are no major plot twists or anything like that. Majority of the story is revealed to you in the first 100 pages. But it still keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see whats gonna happen next. Overall a great read.

5 out of 5 stars Great Story.......2007-07-01

I'm not a huge fan of fantasy books but I couldn't put this one down. It's only the second fantasy book I've ever read (and loved). The first being, 'The Hobbit'.

5 out of 5 stars One of his best novels.......2007-06-14

I read this as a teenager some time ago and had fond memories of it being one of my favorite books of all time. I recently decided to read it again prior to re-reading the first three Gunslinger novels. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I enjoyed it just as much the second time around. I strongly recommend this book to Dark Tower fans.

5 out of 5 stars Me Likey.......2007-06-04

Not being a huge King fan--don't get me wrong, I don't dislike him, I just don't care for horror novels, I'm a sissy--I love this book. It's a departure from the aforementioned genre and the content delves into a more fantastic realm. I heard it was intended for his daughter at the time. I love all the details and descriptions--this is a great book for children/preteens, though I still love it (and I'm quite a bit older than a preteen...)Give it a read, it's a nice change from killer dogs and creepy sewer clowns.

5 out of 5 stars Cool pop-up book... lots of teeth, fangs and scales.......2007-04-06

The fantasy-oriented D&D types among us will revel in this boldly illustrated pop-up book... The dragons literally leap out at you, all tooth, claw and leathery, scaly skin. There are abbreviated versions of several famous dragon stories -- St. George, Maud & The Wyvern, The Sea King's Daughter, Beowulf, etc. -- and flashy artwork to match. The pop-up elements are relatively simple, which also means they are more durable than some of the more clever, complicated other books. If you're a dragon fan, you'll dig this book... a lot!

5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Adventure!.......2007-02-21

This is truly a wonderful adventure for adults and children. I did a whole series of reading on castles, knights, kings,queens,...a month of "Royal Reading"! I ended with "Dragons: A Pop-Up Book",and each page brought "ooo's and ahh's" from the class, and LOTS of discussion at the end of the book. This book paved the way to some very creative writing from students that normally had very little to say. Thank You Keith Moseley and Amazon!

Rand now has his mojo going on. Therefore, he thinks he has a shot at doing over one of the demon lord types.

Along with Moraine, he travels to Tear, because, well, a magic sword never hurt anyone's credibility if you draw it in a big showy stunt and win a fight, even with help.

This allows him to start establishing a serious political power base.

4 out of 5 stars definately read it if you liked the first 2 books.......2007-05-25

Though the story did not progress nearly as fast in The Dragon Reborn as it did in The Eye of the World or The Great Hunt, I have to say that this was a fast and enjoyable read as there was lots of great character development. If you enjoyed the first two books, this one will not disappoint.

5 out of 5 stars JmeascsKeinnon.......2007-05-18

The Dragon Reborn is a GREAT book!

I just loved this book when i read it! I especially liked what went on with Nynaeve and the other two, hunting the Black Ajah and all. I also liked the parts that mentioned the Aile. the Aile seem to be more active in this book. finally they stop staring at their thumbs in the Waste and venture out to DO something! The last three chapters are non-stop action!

In the beginning, Rand runs away, believing that if he can just touch Callandor he will know if he is truly the Dragon Reborn, as the Prophecies say only the D.R. shall be able to weild the sword. I'm glad Moirane is back in the book; she goes off with Perrin and Loial and her faithful Warder to hunt Rand down. And while that happens, Egwene, Nynaeve, and Elayne face punishment at the White Tower for running off without permission. They are also are given a secret task; to hunt down Liandrin and the other Black Ajah. And what is Rand doing while all this is going on? killing people for their horses! He himself is seldom mentioned in the book, which i think is a real bummer. Also, there are some surprising changes to the story, mainly concerning Ba'alzomon and the Aile.

But The Dragon Reborn has it's faults, too, as in every book.

First of all, the romance is inevitable, which, for an 11 yr. old reader, can be QUITE annoying. Can't Jordan make up his mind about who loves who? It seems that when every young man leaves one pretty teenage-20 yr. girl, another comes along to replace the first. Egwene falls for Galad and Rand. Min bats calf eyes at Rand. Elayne wants Rand. And Rand falls for all three of them. Also, there is Perrin and Faile, and Nynaeve and Lan, and Gawyn's "tragic" love for Ewene. HONESTLY!

Second, as I said(typed) before, Rand hardly appears in the book, except for his usual battle with Ba'alzomon.

Third, Robert Jordan does write LONG books!

But really, if you love to read about FANTASY, EPIC, ADVENTURE AND GREAT CHARACTERS, this is the book for you!

2 out of 5 stars Filler, characters lack emotional depth..........2007-05-10

I've been struggling to complete the Dragon Reborn, and I'm finding it tedious.. Mostly because nothing really happens. The novel is split between three groups: The women: Elayne, Egwene and Nynaeve. Rand and his crew. Perrin, Moraine, the warder Lon and the big wookie-like guy. The chapters bounce from one group to another, with nothing really exciting going on in any of these groups. Wouldn't it be better to focus on one group and have everything happen to them? Why have three little groups and bounce between them like a ping pong ball?

My biggest peeve with Jordan's books is the writing and the characters lack emotional depth. They blush and simper and pull each others hair like 5 year olds. Jordan writes caricatures such as: Nynaeve has a temper, Elayne is the snobby royal heir, Perrin is the careful blacksmith etc. We are then treated to endless descriptions of these characters traits with no growth! Also the characters are mannequin-esque in their realism. There is very little romance, no adult situations, and murder seems to be fine as long as the victim someone you don't like. Real people don't act like this. Real adults, have sex, get into fights, die, get sick, make war, and get jealous. In Jordan-land all this happens behind a big curtain somewhere.

I really like some elements of his writing, but this book has the emotional depth of a fairy tale and felt like filler to me.

5 out of 5 stars The Series Continues to Improve.......2007-03-29

Throughout the first three books of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, the series keeps getting better. The Dragon Reborn is easily the best of the series so far, featuring the best character development, the strongest plot (and plot advancement), the most poignant writing and the snappiest dialog.

Perhaps my favorite part of the Dragon Reborn was the point of view focus shifting away from the increasingly insane Rand Al'Thor, the series' main protagonist, to the characters of Mat Cauthon, Perrin Aybara and Egwene Al'Vere. For those who have never gotten into Rand, the Dragon Reborn will be a delight. Although much of the plot is directed towards Rand, the point of view remains almost uniformly out of Rand's eyes. I have always found Mat and Perrin to be the most likable characters, and that feeling improved steadily throughout the Dragon Reborn. Mat is really evolving into a three-dimensional character instead of the stereotypical rogue role he played in the first two novels of the series. Perrin, who had always been the deepest of the main characters, continues to grow and has become a supremely human character (which is ironic, given some of his abilities). Some of the same character complaints from the previous novels are still present, however. The female characters remain basically identical in personality, though Jordan seems to be working hard to develop each one into a slightly different character.

Although the plot of the Dragon Reborn is not as tightly tuned as that of its predecessor, the Great Hunt, the Dragon Reborn features an interesting story. As Rand travels to Tear to fulfill one of the prophecies of the Dragon, Perrin, Mat, and Egwene all find themselves drawn to Tear for different reasons. Although Perrin's role is basically the same as it was in the previous novels, both Mat and Egwene have been given stories that actually matter to the overall plot of the series and are becoming increasingly important. One problem with the plot, however, is the same as that of the Eye of the World and the Great Hunt. That is, 95% of the book is traveling, and then the book suddenly ends in a hastily written conclusion. It is clear that Jordan enjoys writing how the characters get to where they are going more than what they did when they got there.

Jordan's writing continues to be stellar, albeit repetitive at times. He has a knack for narrative and dialog that few authors of his genre can rival. However, he has become obsessed with repeating the same lines over and over again, such as "the truths an Aes Sedai tells are never the truths you think they are," which he has one character or another repeat countless times throughout each of his novels. Although it can get frustrating at times, the repetitions tend to get lost in the rich storytelling.

It is important to note that with the Dragon Reborn comes the commitment of the Wheel of Time series, which will likely be twelve brick-sized books in length. The first two novels could stand alone and one could certainly read the Great Hunt without reading the Eye of the World. But it would be very difficult to read the Dragon Reborn without reading the preceding novels. For all the criticism of Jordan that he repeatedly summarizes the previous novels in the new ones, he scarcely mentions the events of the previous novels in this one except when they directly affect a characters thoughts or actions.

I cannot recommend the Dragon Reborn and the Wheel of Time series enough. To be fair, I have only read up to the Dragon Reborn at this point, and cannot vouch for what it is to become. But I am astonished at the surprise people seem to express when they complain that this serious has become very long and detail oriented. It is very clear from the first three novels, as excellent as they are, that Jordan is obsessed with minute detail and will not suddenly cut out minor plots to focus solely on the big ones. It is clearly not his nature. So if you have read the first two books in the Wheel of Time series, you should definitely read the Dragon Reborn. If you have not read any yet, you should pick up the Eye of the World safe in the knowledge that the first three books, at least, are among the best fantasy you are ever going to read.

Not a typical story about dragons. Gives a different focus of life on Pern. Good read!

The Pern series of books from Anne McCaffery are great. Better if you read them in order, (look online at her website for recommendations). This is futuristic science fiction, but if you liked Aregon, you would probably like this series too

5 out of 5 stars Nerilka's Story .......2007-01-22

Another great story of Pern! The book arrived in perfect condition and faster then I expected.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2004-10-22

I've loved the books I've read so far in the Dragonriders series, with the exception of Nerilka.

1) I read this book right after reading Moreta and found it too repetitive. This story may have been better intertwined as part of Moreta.
2) I didn't like the ending to Moreta and this book was too much of a reminder of that ending.

Perhaps leaving some time between reading the Moreta and Nerilka books it would make Nerilka more enjoyable.

5 out of 5 stars Warning - Addicting.......2007-07-09

What an awesome start to a great series of books! I read the Cycle when I was a teen and loved it and now in my....Early 20's ;) I wonder how I waited so long before picking it up again. From this first book, 'Dragon Wing' through the seventh I was hooked and still am!

2 out of 5 stars The epitome of fantasy ilk.......2007-06-23

I told myself I wouldn't go back and read this kind of ilk after reading other much better books, but I couldn't help myself since I've pretty much exhausted the fantasy genre. Anyway, it was a mistake. The genre isn't even completely fantasy - it's some kind of weird mixture of science fiction, fantasy and psuedo - philosophy/parody.

The premise is that the world is divided into realms one on top of one another. All ready a tad eye rolling. Not a good setting to say the least. The authors had to invent some new floating rock called coralite. Anyway, this book is basically two viewpoints: Hugh the Hand and Limbeck Bolttightner (stupid name). The first fifty pages weren't bad. Not great, but highly readable.

Then everything goes to hell when the view shifts over to the dwarf. First of all, what's the point of calling dwarves gegs? The author even refers to them as dwarves first. Maybe to make them seem more juvenile then they all ready are. But, anyway, Limbeck's story is basically some kind of weird dwarven version of 1984. Basically, he's an enlightened dwarf among a race of childlike dwarves and he's determined to make remove their ignorance. Basically, all the dwarves worship the elves or the people who live on top them. Meanwhile, they all do work for this like super machine called "the kicksey winsey" How suitable is that? Kicksey winsey. All the dwarves have their roles and do their work unquestioningly. Then quite suitably, you have this revolutionary organization called WUPP (shudder) who is going about writing pamphlets and making speeches run by Limbeck's bossy wife named Jarre.

Hugh the Hand's story arc is a tad better with him escorting some simple boy prince who isn't really so simple. Unfortunately, he had to be named "Bane." Prince Bane!

Then there's the Sartan missionary named Haplo who is supposed to be sent back for vengeance for being shunned. But then he's accompanied by a loyal dog who licks his face and barks at strangers. Am I the only one sensing some kind of contradiction in tones here?

I'm not looking for any great masterpiece here but all the characters are cardboard cutouts and two dimensional at best. You got the mercenary Hugh who'll do anything for money. The clumsy chamberlain named Alfred who falls down every other page.

Essentially, the names are bordering on ridiculous: Hugh the Hand, Boltightner, Magicka, Sinistrad, and Prince Bane. All ready not good signs. Seriously, if you 've read better books, please skip this ilk. If you're determined to read Hickman and Weiss, read Chronicles which is a tad better.

Seriously, if you think this is the 'best fantasy' you've ever read, you really need to be trying OTHER books by OTHER authors. This book is fluff at best. The tones are so mixed up sometimes you're not sure if it's a comedy or what not. I'm not sure if the dwarven part is supposed to be comedy relief or if it's a serious rendition of 1984. But the tone is so silly you can hardly take it seriously at all. Kicksey winsey!

5 out of 5 stars Part of one of the greatest series of fantasy books every written.......2007-04-12

Long ago, the all-powerful Sartan broke the earth into five worlds - Air, Fire, Earth and Water, and the Labyrinth (a temporary prison for their equally-powerful enemy, the Patryns). But, something, somewhere went wrong. The Labyrinth turned into a murderous, self-aware, killer. And now, the first of the Patryns have escaped the Labyrinth, and they are looking for revenge.

Haplo, one of the escaped Patryns is sent through the Death Gate (which connects the five worlds) to Arianus, the World of Air, to foment chaos and prepare the world for conquest by the Patryns. Arianus is a world of islands floating in the sky, of dragons and elven airships, of empires and wizards, and of a marvelous machine that seems to accomplish...nothing. And where are the Sartan? Something has gone terribly wrong.

This is an excellent book, part of one of the greatest series of fantasy books every written. I first read this book when it came out in 1990, and every few years I read it again - it's that good! I love books that include elves, dwarves and wizards, but this series takes that genre and moves it in a direction you might have never expected. I love the fascinating worlds that the authors created, and also the interesting characters and institutions that fill them.

Overall, I think that this is one of the greatest series of fantasy books, if not the greatest. I highly recommend this book, and the other six that make up the series. Believe me, they are well worth your time!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant book, series.......2007-03-17

For a fan of high-fantasy, the Death Gate cycle is a must read. Dragon Wing, the first book of seven, is probably the best written in the series; the prose is tighter and plot twists are set up more cleverly than in later books in the series. However, each book in the series is imaginative and a delight to read. The premise is that a war between two races of warring gods, the wise Sartan and the brutal Patryns, ended in a Sartan victory and the sundering of the world into its four elemental parts. The Patryns, who have long been trapped in a separate prison world called the Labyrinth, have just begun to break free. You follow their first scout, Haplo, as he explores the four worlds in preparation for a new Patryn offensive to conquer the lesser races and the Sartan.

While not especially literary, the character development, political intrigue, and imaginativeness of the four worlds is gripping. The cheesy "4 elements" theme is completely revived by Weiss and Hickman's clever implementation. For instance, the World of Air in Dragon Wing is made up of floating islands of lighter-than-air coral. Dwarves enslaved by Elven masters operate a gigantic machine in a perpetual storm that provides the only water source, reducing humans to raiders only recently united under a strong monarchy. However, the elves have their own problem in the form of a strange rebellion that threatens to undermine their empire if a truce can be reached with the humans.

My main criticism with Dragon Wing in particular is that two of the central characters, Haplo and Hugh, have personalities that are almost indistinguishable in the beginning, which can make things a bit repetitive. But if you enjoy creative, well-written fantasy, it would be hard to do better than this one-time best-selling (but now obscure) fantasy series.

4 out of 5 stars Solid work from fantasy pioneers.......2007-02-16

I will say that when I started reading this series, I was hoping for something much like Weis & Hickman's previous series: Dragonlance. What I found out was that I didn't know what I wanted to begin with. This book was very much different from that great old saga, but every bit as good. I thought the authors did a great job of transitioning the character of Haplo. Nothing was sudden, it was a gradual change of attitude and ideology over the course of the entire series from hate and vengance, to understanding and compassion (even though the hard determined edge never left). The other characters were fairly good, even though Bane was incredibly annoying, and Zinfab was a deliberate play on Fizban, who was the god Paladin in disguise during the Dragonlance series. I never really understood, and don't think that it was explained in any way, why Zinfab always made references to pop culture from the late 1900s, but that is only a minor gripe. The story was really good, and extemely intricate. Wies and Hickman obviously put a lot of work into creating the settings, and explaining why they were the way that they were with stunning originality. This book was pretty good, but the series as a whole was great. I consider myself somewhere between a casual fantasy reader, and a hardcore fantasy reader, and I thought these books were worth every penny, and every minute spent reading.

5 out of 5 stars Dragon Prince.......2007-02-13

I dont care what anyone says the Dragon Prince books are a wonderful tale. Anyone and I do mean anyone would enjoy the entire tale of the prince and his witch wife. Melanie has woven such magic in these books. So if you get the chance get the entire series. Sit back with a cup of coffee and a tissue and enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read!!.......2005-12-17

Skybowl was a great ending to the awesome Dragon Star series! You must first, of course, read the Dragon Prince series or risk being utterly confused and regretting not doing it later on, but still a great read. Melanie Rawn created characters that are complicated and indepth and a fantastic world to live in. Simply, this book and series is a must read for anyone who loves fantasy.

Be Warned!!: other reviews have spoilers that will really hurt the story if you know before hand. Do yourself a favor and tred lightly.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect ending.......2005-05-17

I loved this book a lot and reread the ending several times per year, just because of the spectacular way in which it was written. I have to agree with some of the other reviewers in that the two previous books were not as well written, especially after having enjoyed the first series so much. But this book was definitely worth plowing through the other two and it made the ending all the more poignant and dramatic. Just those last couple of chapters would have gotten six stars from me!

3 out of 5 stars Not As Good As The Othes.......2005-03-18

I personally didn't like this book as much for the others. The ending had a lot to be desired and what's more I think Melanie has a tendency of being a little to hard on the male characters of her series. It strikes me as I've read all 6 of the books of this particular setting that she makes her male characters way too feminine. Not all of course and I also feel that she has this tendency of putting her own political views to much in these books.

My least favorite characters in the series was Ostvel and Alison, I couldn't see what Andry saw in her at all. Nothing was all that strong about her and she ran away at the slightest hint of power. Ostvel just gets on my nerves because he's just too perfectly annoying!

What's more is that I've noticed something that I've disliked about this particular series.

1. Sionell was way to harsh on Pol and seemed to blame him for what was also her own decision as well.

2. Melanie Rawn is more than a little sexist. I found very few female characters making any mistakes at all, not to mention more often than not I found that I'd never respond like they do to the way that the male characters respond. Maybe it's just me however since I don't know every guy out their. Even if a guy made the right decision he'd be attacked while if the woman made a decission that was actually wrong she would be admired.

3. Some of the characters in this overly long book should have been cut out. I honestly had no interest in most of them and found that it distracted me from characters that I really liked, Andry and Pol.

4 out of 5 stars Worth reading the first 2 torturous books.......2002-12-31

I bought all three books together in this series without reading the Dragon-Prince series. I gave the first book a miserable rating because I was very confused. All the chars were alien to me. But becasue I had bought the books and i didn't want to waste my money, I forced myself to plow through to the end.

I must say it was worth my time and agony because the climax at the end of the book was incredible. It was so brilliant that I could almost feel the sunrunner web spinning around me as i read. It helped also that I got to like Andry in all my muddled reading and he was the only one who stuck in my mind. His death upsetted me but it's one of the things that glued me to the book.

The reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because of all the trouble i took in reading the first two books. They are not bad but I made the mistake of not reading the Dragon Prince series. Or I could blame Rawn for not making it book 4,5,6 instead.

5 out of 5 stars Start Your Journey.......2004-02-13

This is an excellent book for anyone who is navigating a personal spiritual journey. We used this book in a church study group and the discussions it generated were lively and interesting. Although I think I would have enjoyed this book if I had read it by myself, having a group to share with and an informed spiritual leader deepened my understanding.
Edward Hays has an amazing talent for gently waking up spiritual areas in the brain.

4 out of 5 stars What you need to know about life.......2002-07-25

As I was sitting on a bench at the end of a long desolate road, slowly sipping my oolong tea, when I pulled out this book and began to read. Oh the joy. I breezed through the pages as my mind wandered throught the wonderful tales that Mr. Hays spins. I couldn't put the book down and the memories and myths will stay with me for a long time. I recommend this book to anyone that is trying to find their spiritual inner self.

5 out of 5 stars Life Changing Experience.......2000-05-30

I was a senior in High School when I was first introduced to this author. At that time in my life I seeked guidance in a spiritual sense but found few sources from society to help me. A theology teacher showed me 3 parables from Hays' writing and I quickly went out to buy the book. I won't try to explain the messages you get from this book because everyone takes away something different from reading it. Look at the other reviews and decide for yourself but this book is definetly worth the price and you won't spend too much time reading it since the book's length isn't all that long. Although be forewarned you will probably find yourself picking this book up off the shelf after completing it. I don't think I know anyone who has read it only once.

5 out of 5 stars Theology for Everyone.......1999-06-24

Fr. Hays is a gifted storyteller. His parables find their way through cynicism and doubt, and work in the reader's heart at a profound level. Having read nearly all of Fr. Hays's books, I recommend _St. George and the Dragon_ as a starting place for his compassionate, loving, inclusive, and atavistic theology. It is the story of a man with a deep spiritual longing who is uncertain how to fulfill it. His mentor appears in the form of an ancient dragon offering assistance, guidance, and a slyly humorous wisdom. This is not a book to be read once and put aside, nor is it a book to be read quickly. It will seem new-age-y to some readers, but it isn't. It will appeal to those who are hurting, those who are young at heart, teenagers, and especially to those whose religious background includes ritual. Everyone embarking on, or already on, a spiritual journey will find something holy here.

5 out of 5 stars Parables that Appeal to Everyone!.......1998-07-15

Edward Hays is a tremendously gifted writer and a thought-provoking theologian. His parables are truly amusing, but at the same time offer the reader much to think about. Hays has the rare ability to write for many levels. This book was recommended to me by a member of the clergy, but I have shared several stories with young teenagers who are just beginning to grapple with their own spirituality.

Reading this book was a personally rewarding experience. The best part is that when I pick it up again in a year or two, I will have completely new insights. It is a book about a spiritual journey that meets you where you are on your own spiritual journey.

I also recommend the sequel "The Magic Lantern" and "The Ethiopian Tattoo Shop".

Like the other Fantastic Locations, this one has two battle maps (double sided) and an encounter booklet. The art is uniformly well done and the maps can be easily flattened and laminated at your local office supply store to increase their durability.

These are some of the nicest accessories published by WotC, in my opinion. They get plenty of use in DDM Skirmish and my home RPG campaigns.
