If Christian men are going to change from a pitiful, wimpy bunch of "really nice guys" to men who are made in the image of God, they must reexamine their preconceptions about who God is and recover their true "wild" hearts, writes bestselling author John Eldredge in Wild at Heart: Discovering a Life of Passion, Freedom, and Adventure. Eldredge throws down the gauntlet--men are bored; they fear risk, they refuse to pay attention to their deepest desires. He challenges Christian men to return to authentic masculinity without resorting to a "macho man" mentality. Men often seek validation in venues such as work, or in the conquest of women, Eldredge observes. He urges men to take time out and come to grips with the "secret longings" of their hearts. Although the book succeeds best in its slant toward a male audience, it also strives to help women understand the implications of authentic masculinity in their relationships with men. Eldredge frames the book around his outdoor experiences and appealing anecdotes about his family, sprinkling the text with touches of humor and overlying everything with heartfelt passion. Even as he mixes eclectic ideas about masculinity from popular movies such as Braveheart with classic words from Oswald Chambers, and lyrics from the Dixie Chicks with stories from the Bible, he points to only one answer for men searching for their true wildness of heart. Writes Eldredge, "The only way to live in this adventure ... with all its danger and unpredictability and immensely high stakes ... is in an ongoing, intimate relationship with God." --Cindy Crosby

Book Description

God designed men to be dangerous, says John Eldredge. Simply look at the dreams and desires written in the heart of every boy: To be a hero, to be a warrior, to live a life of adventure and risk. Sadly, most men abandon those dreams and desires-aided by a Christianity that feels like nothing more than pressure to be a "nice guy." It is no wonder that many men avoid church, and those who go are often passive and bored to death. In this provocative book, Eldredge gives women a look inside the true heart of a man and gives men permission to be what God designed them to be-dangerous, passionate, alive, and free.

Has some good open insights, but misses the mark as the author wants us to return to the patriarchal ways of thinking that actually hurts true masculinity.Men-The Gods of Love

5 out of 5 stars Wild at Heart Rocks.......2007-09-27

Wild at Heart rocks! Perfect view of God and men - No. A great motivator for men to develop a deep and very personal relationship with God - Yes. Having read the book a couple of times, and now having read other John Eldredge books, I can tell you that my spiritual walk with God has been completely changed in a very meaningful way. In fact 'changed' is probably a word that does not completely convey the real impact of the message on my life -- 'Warped Across the Universe' would be more descriptive.

As a few reviewers have highlighted, the book is not perfect. Nor is it the answer to every man's questions about his masculinity and how we are all formed in God's image. It simply provides a strong framework to think differently about what it means to be a man but yet a Christian.

As mentioned again by several reviewers, although the book has a little bravado here and there, it is not license to mistreat other people, especially not the women in our life's. The message is very clear. Although the God is a Warrior, He is also a compelling force who loves mankind deeply.

Bottom-line about this book is that message, can at least for some men, revolutionize their thinking about God, Church, their families and their relationships with other people. It has changed me in a personal a deep manner that this review cannot even begin to express.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Spiritual and Invigorating - Not Just For Men!.......2007-09-25

I cannot speak highly enough of this book! I learned so much from reading it--about myself, about my husband, about life! In fact, I think I'll read it AGAIN!

5 out of 5 stars Truly Transformational!!.......2007-09-18

Treasures of the Kingdom, Vol. 1

I've seen the message from this book transform not only my own life, but the lives of many, many others as well.

The Eldredges have such a wonderful way of awakening the heart to its natural hunger and thirst for God. They throw us head long into a journey of pursuing God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength.

The pursuit results in total transformation. Mediocre religion doesn't cut it anymore. We have to have God and we have to see Him powerfully and fully integrated in our every day lives. Walking with God, hearing His voice, knowing His guidance and leading in our lives changes everything.

For true stories of lives transformed because of the power of this message as presented by the Eldredges, see the real life accounts in the Amazon book, Treasures of the Kingdom.

5 out of 5 stars Timing is everything.......2007-09-13

I actually read this book about 4 years ago and remember thinking it was pretty good, BUT for some reason I picked it up a few weeks ago and re-read it. POWERFUL insight. Then just as I was finishing the book, my Dad died. There are no coincidences. This book answered a lot of deep questions I didn't even know I had. It was a real life shaper. TO those of you who are fathers to boys,.. its a MUST READ. The authors insight is right-on and much different than what you would expect from a "Christian author". BTW, I could see why some women might have a problem understanding and accepting some of his insights. I'd say they just need to listen, observe and keep an open mind. This book can save relationships.

5 out of 5 stars Wild at Heart Field Manual.......2007-08-25

I purchased 4 of these books for my sons, on the recommendation of I man I work with. My oldest son said he usually doesn't like self help books, but after reading the first chapter "very intersting.....it hit home". I have promises from my other sons they will now read it. I am happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource.......2007-01-28

This is the field manual for the book Wild At Heart. Mine is very worn from having been worked through 4 times. This is a great resource if you are working through Wild At Heart, either by yourself or in a group. It will help you really examine and work through the book.

This workbook is well laid out with lots of room for answers, and a number of little sections to help you on your journey as you work through it. Some of these supplemental sections are:
· A Break in the Clouds
· From the Map
· Warning!
· Dispatch
· Getting Your Bearings

Each chapter which parallels the book, begins with a 'Gut Reaction' - what is your first take on that chapter in the book? This helps set the bearings for where you will go in that chapter. As you work through it you will be drawn deeper and deeper into the masculine journey.

Eldredge begins each chapter with quotes that span church history and denominations. He must be one of the most widely read men I have encountered. He draws from that breadth of knowledge to show a variety of views on topics and tries to help you see where God is wanting to work in your life.

The one drawback, if you use it in conjunction with the DVD curriculum, is that the DVD does not follow the book exactly, and with 12 chapters in the book and field manual that follow each other exactly, and 8 in the DVD, it doesn't seem weighted evenly.

The Field Manual is indispensable if you are going to work through the DVDs and is a great supplement to the original book. For you, or other men in your life, this book will be a great tool on your journey to authentic Christian manhood.

it was a great support of the book, Wild at Heart. It took the book into a deeper level.

5 out of 5 stars A whole new perspective.......2006-01-31

This book answered many questions I have had for years: about myself, about the church; about Christianity. It launched me on a search for these things that has been very enlightening. I highly recommend getting the Field Guide to Wild at Heart which will help make the things in the book a very personal experience.
Pure theolgists and members of churchs that think they have the only way will probably be very upset by this book. For those who want to open their minds and hearts, it is an unforgetable journey.

5 out of 5 stars wild at heart.......2005-10-07

I have not finished this book as I am writing this. I can say the first 40 pages are worth the purchase price. Eldredge really seems to know how a man is to relate to Jesus. Its fairly obvious he enjoys a healthy relationship with our risen savior Jesus--and shows that we all can. Read it......if you dare.

Book Description

Every little girl has dreams of being rescued by the hero, of being swept away into a great adventure, of being the beautiful princess. Sadly, when women grow up, they are taught to be tough, efficient, and independent. Many Christian women are tired, struggling under the weight of the pressure to be a "good servant," a nurturing caregiver, passionate lover, or capable home manager.

What the Wild at Heart Field Manual did for men, the Captivating: A Guided Journal can do for women. By revealing the three distinctly female desires every woman shares, John and Stasi Eldredge invite participants to recover their feminine hearts, which may have suffered many wounds but were originally defined in the image of a passionate God.

5 out of 5 stars Life changing.......2007-07-18

As a woman who teaches Bible studies, I find this book very captivating, most of the information I either knew or experienced because of my walk with the Lord, but is nice to have a book that can be used as a tool to help other women open up and recognize their wounds but also acknowlege that God can heal them. I am using it again in another Bible Study because it is really helpful in allowing women the permission to open up in small groups. I would recommend this book to any female struggling with who she is and one interested in doing a Bible Study for women who need to experience God's love through their pain.

I have been reading through this book along with using the journal with my small group of women from church. It's been great! It can be pretty heavy at times, but it's definitely a book all women should read. It helps to put words with things we've felt but couldn't verbalize. I really recommend this book.

The stories in this book are true inspiration. I have decided to give it to my 20 year old granddaughter, as I feel this is the best gift I could possibly give to her.

5 out of 5 stars My Opinion.......2007-05-18

No book touched my soul (pardon the pun) like this one did. I have read better books, however perhaps none more valuable. The story of the little so called crippled boy and the puppy in the dog store, WOW. The authors let us know to stop blaming everyone for our life. Our parents where probably average, SO WHAT! Get on with it. Many people overcome a tough childhood to become successful. This book is full of such stories. It awesome.

Book Description

In his groundbreaking book fifteen years ago, Gordon Dalbey identified the fact that men's souls have been torn between strength and sensitivity. Today, the situation is even worse. The politically correct crowd cries out for men to be more sensitive, to tame their masculine nature. On the opposing side, the media bombards men with "macho" images of violence and lust. Is it any wonder men are left bewildered about who they should be?

In this newly revised and updated edition of Healing the Masculine Soul, Dalbey claims that there's hope for restoration, hope for healing-because Christ has come to heal us. God is calling men out to a relationship with Himself and calling them out to authentic manhood. "Our task is not to curse our manhood, but to redeem it," he writes.

Gordon Dalbey's refreshing, comprehensive picture of God's design for the masculine soul dares men to be as God created them to be-not as society demands. Dalbey tackles the tough issues, including work, sexuality, marriage, and fatherhood.

Book includes Study Guide.

Disclaimer -- This is a Christian Book

I've read all the 'landmark' books on Mens studies ( Bly, Keen, Goldberg, Weber, Real, Eldredge...etc..) and Dalbey gets the Gold Medal.

Dalbey mixes authenticity, spirituality, intellect wonderfully. He doesn't run away from so many thorny issues as other Christian authors do -- he walks right through the challenging issues of Porn, Homosexuality, Domestic Violence, Abortion and challenges the 'church' and non-church people alike to start seeing their shame and start taking responsibility in their lives by building a relationship with their real father -- Heavenly Father.

5 out of 5 stars Healing the Masculine Soul: God's Restoration of Men to Real Manhood.......2007-04-03

A refreshing portrait of the soul of man. This book provides the tool kit for rebuilding our hearts, and restoring our souls. The healing sword of Gods word is used with precision to cut away decades of the American man's sinful fall into passivity.

5 out of 5 stars One of the most lucid approaches to men's issues I've ever seen........2007-03-13

Wow ... if there were a six-star option I would use it here. If you are a man, read this book. If you are a wife or mother or in any other way love a man, read this book.

Mr. Dalbey, with great credibility, lays out a case that explains why we are so lost as men today. If you don't think you are, but have the courage to explore the possibility, then read this book anyway. Both culturally and personally, the author teaches us why we stumble so easily and then he reaches out and tells us how to begin the process of change for our relationships and communities. It doesn't matter if you are Christian, Jew, agnostic or atheist. If you have a concern for the direction of our families and our culture, if you have a history of troubled relationships, if you lack for male friendships, if you want to break the cycle with your children, (pick your own cycle -- you probably are perpetuating one or more) especially with your son, and equip them to soar in this world, you must read this book. This is not just another psycho-speak, self-help book. Buy an extra highliter. You'll need it.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful book.......2006-07-05

The book is right on point with the issues of manhood. It reminds me of another similar book, called False Roads To Manhood. Gordon does an excellant job of pulling back the viel on the hidden problems swempt under the emotional carpet of manhood. Fathers and sons will be enlightened on the importance of their connection to each other. Healing the Masculine soul is for generation after generartion of men.

5 out of 5 stars A Very Important Book.......2006-05-25

Dalbey doesn't just assess the problems with masculinity in America (and the American church) today, but gives incredible insights on how to turn things around in your life.

I wish more men would read this book and apply its message.

These are indeed cynical times. But to hide behind the smugness of cynicism is a kind of self-imposed death sentence, explains writer and social commentator Paul Loeb. In fact, now is the ideal time for gathering all our strengths and wisdom as spiritual beings and applying ourselves to shaping a better world, he claims.

Are we talking social activism here? Well, yes. But before you cringe from images of shrill, humorless, burned out activists, keep in mind that Loeb is talking about a new kind of activism--an exciting, spiritual model for creating social change. We don't have to be pious or martyred saints (as he explains throughout one chapter), starving ourselves in the name of a cause or staging protests in freezing rain. We can be "good enough" activists, assuming the task of helping 10 people in need rather than taking on the globe. We can remember the power of storytelling when convincing an audience, rather than angrily spewing scary facts. We can replenish ourselves so that we do not burn out. We can emphasize themes such as community and forgiveness rather than separatism and blame.

This is a deeply spiritual book, but make no mistake: Loeb's writing, research, and integrity are as solid as they come. Soul of a Citizen may well become The Handbook for activism at the turn of the century. --Gail Hudson

Book Description

Soul of a Citizen awakens within us the desire and the ability to make our voices heard and our actions count. We can lead lives worthy of our convictions.A book of inspiration and integrity, Soul of a Citizen is an antidote to the twin scourges of modern life-powerlessness and cynicism. In his evocative style. Paul Loeb tells moving tells moving stories of ordinary Americans who have found unexpected fulfillment in social involvement. Through their example and Loeb's own wise and powerful lessons, we are compelled to move from passivity to participation. The reward of our action, we learn, is nothing less than a sense of connection and purpose not found in a purely personal life.

2 out of 5 stars A non-academic book for the baby boomer generation.......2007-03-29

As many other reviewers I was asked to read this book as a part of a college course. My wife was recently assigned the reading in her MSW program. I do believe it has some value, but to a specific generation and type of activist. The book rarely (if at all) discusses a model of activism outside of that born from the peace and love movement of the 60-70s. If you are from these eras, by all means this is the book for you. If you are or will soon be a college student you will likely find little to connect with in the book. I suspect that its over use in courses at this time is a result of faculty promoting a book they feel applies to them greatly without thinking of how it applies to younger generations.

2 out of 5 stars duh!.......2006-12-05

I read this book for a college class on Social Work, and although Loeb tells many meaningful and powerful stories, this is the same text I have heard before. If you read the first and last paragraph of each chapter you basically get the point. It's an easy read, and some may find it powerful, but I just found it repetitive and over-told.

5 out of 5 stars A must read if you believe in service to others.......2006-10-21

Paul is an outstanding voice in our world. Fantastic book helping bring hope to a difficult time for those of us who aspire to service. It is a challenge to keep engaged in service and Paul does provide hope. I also appreciate his newsletter and recommend it to those who appreciate his work. Great insights.

5 out of 5 stars Every citizen must read.......2006-08-11

I read Soul of a citizen which inspired me to action. I am now a volunteer activist in my neighbourhood and have formed a group of concerned citizens to negotiate and participate in our city's development plan. We have made an impact in the corporation and even had a few small successes along the way.

1 out of 5 stars tired of it.......2006-07-09

Must we indulge yet another collection of tripe in the guise of self-help? Didn't we get this sort of nonsense out of our systems a long time ago?

If you are the type who hangs around in the self-help section of Borders looking for something you haven't yet read, hoping the nice-looking man ordering the latte isn't as bad as your ex-husband, well, sure, pick this up. You can read it a few hours later after you've snuck that man past your sleeping children's doors and out to his car, and feel good about yourself and how wonderful a person you are for reading something like this.

For the rest of us that live with a real sense of morality, well, we know books like this are just excuses - a mechanism by which the anointed democrat leftists sanctify themselves. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure why I wrote this review. If it offended you, you're beyond help. If it rang true, you already know you don't want to get anywhere near this book.

5 out of 5 stars Refreshing Book!.......2006-07-25

I did this book with a group of ladies and it was awesome. Each chapter touched deep into my life. The ladies in our group come from all walks of life and it touched each of them as well. A great book!

5 out of 5 stars A Warm Cup of Java for your Soul.......2005-02-11

As one of the immensely popular "Women of Faith" conference speakers, actress/author Johnson doesn't need my plug--but she gets it! Her writing is vunerable, deep, and funny. I especially liked her musings about savoring our sexuality (a topic often overlooked or avoided by the Church) and embracing our beauty. Each chapter also includes fun coffee trivia. (Side note: I led a Bible study on this book at my church, and it was a big hit with the younger women. We all loved her video presentations that were included with the study guide and students' books. They made us think, laugh, and cry, within the space of five minutes! Her "mom" segment is priceles--I can't believe she doesn't have kids of her own!) Be sure and have a journal and highlighter nearby when you read Fresh-Brewed Life, because you'll want to remember a lot of what this author says. The book is comforting and stimulating at the same time--just like a good cup of joe. :)

5 out of 5 stars Real.......2004-10-26

I am reading this book a second time, this time with a group. It never fails to wake me up, help to look deeper at things I do and why I do them.

It saddens me to see the author attacked here as a hypocrite, b/c if we get honest how many of is aren't hypocrites? Can we all say we take our own advice 100% of the time? Ye who are without sin, throw the first stone. Go and sin no more.

The author steps out of her comfort zone and gets gut-wrenchingly honest in this book. No, she isn't perfect. I don't recall her claiming to be. Read this book if you are a real woman with real sin and real redemption. You'll find it's real good.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2003-07-05

This book literally jumped off the shelf at me! I LOVE coffee, so I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but the whole coffee theme/book cover is what snagged me. The next thing I knew, I was at the checkout stand. That night I began reading this amazing little book and the next day, returned to purchase an armload of more copies to send my best friends. My copy now has underlined passages and margin notes all over it! I can't even begin to describe how it has spoken to me and influenced me at this point in my life. These are messages I needed to hear. Nicole sure knows how to cut to the chase and speak right to the heart. It's been an extremely refreshing experience reading this book . . . which gives "wake up and smell the coffee" a whole new meaning!

5 out of 5 stars such a blessing.......2003-04-16

Reading this book was such a turning point in my life. I have been a devoted follower of Christ for many years, and have read many books by Christian authors, but Nicole puts living the life of a believer in a whole new light. The way that she sees things and communicates them to her readers is so fresh, and uplifting. This book was a great blessing. It has helped me to walk in beauty, inside and out. It helped me past a lot of hang-ups that I didn't even know I had.

5 out of 5 stars Banish your fear of Death!.......2007-08-24

Physics of the Soul: The Quantum Book of Living, Dying, Reincarnation and Immortality by Amit Goswami was for me a look at the possibility that life continues on. I am a believer in God, so what was I worried about? Because not much is said about our state of existence in the scriptures, except for resurrection, then heaven. But where is heaven, our personality? Our soul. If there is no such thing as communicating with the deceased, then why do we as Christian profess the "communion with Saints"? I got a clear picture of some of these things in Mr. Goswami's book. By the way you will want to read all of his books!

5 out of 5 stars excellent food for thought.......2007-04-04

As a student of Dr. Goswami, i very much enjoyed his thoughts and the models that he proposes. While so many in hte west have been taught since childhood that we have a 'soul', we're never given much of a context within which to hold that concept. Dr. Goswami provides some interesting models, based on The Upanishads, that i am still thinking about and applying months after first reading this book. If you are a student of consciousness, metaphysics, or just curious about the possibilities, Physics of the Soul is a must read.

5 out of 5 stars Paradigm of The Quantum Monad, Jivaman, Eternal Soul.......2005-05-14

Interesting book. Here Amit Goswami attempts to validate the paradigm of a soul that survives the body eternally based on quantum physics. In this "monistic idealism" he equates the soul with the quantum monad and the Jivaman of Sri Aurobindo and the Atman in Hindu Vedic philosophy. This book is another paradigm that supposedly contains the answers to the surviving soul or quantum monad, the subtle body which enters a nonlocality (a connection of potentialities connecting every point in space an time) and carries our tendencies and phobias with us to our next reincarnation. How the purpose of life is a play or battle of two forces, creativity and entropy

Some of the book is on quantum mechanics, how matter gets bogged down in stubborn paradoxes and quantum measurement paradox, and so his science, as in Sri Aurobindo's, is the subtle, the supramental, mental and vital experiences, a science of consciousness and nonlocality where the quantum jumps take place in webs of interdependent connections.

Thought is conveyed of the six bardos found in the Tibetan Book of the Dead and their relation to the human memory of information that dies with us at death and the quantum monad & quantum memory, which he believes carries the tendencies and habitual patterns in each reincarnation. This of course takes us to angels and higher beings of consciousness, death yoga, karma, maya Akashic memory, techniques of meditation, creative thought verses thought, potentiality and the range of choices of actuality. And the idea of the self is all - solipsism, the ideas of how our consciousness collapses the potentialities, turning it into the reality.

I enjoyed the suggestion of three Tibetan practices of one: the death prayer or the Hindu bhakti yoga of devotion to a deity. This is usually done with a private and personal mantra. Two: living a life of service and sacrifice, the attitude that is, is one of service and applied positive meaning. "Instead of looking at pain and suffering and recoiling from the, we embrace pain and suffering to relieve not any pain but the pain of humanity." p. 194. In this, we mentally visualize ourselves containing all consciousness - solipsism, and the power to heal and extend love to all beings. We sacrifice ourselves in this mental capacity and breathing techniques. And Three: Jnana yoga of effortless contemplation, that of concentrating without concentrating or focusing without concentrating, the paradox of concentrative energy while relaxing your mind and this allows you to enter beyond the discursive thought processes to the silent consciousness of the observer self..

I particularly enjoyed a 4 page thought on Involution and Evolution. While in evolution we expand and raise ourselves to the whole, in involution we contract and lower to separate fragmentation in grosser levels, forgetting itself, and decreasing freedom. It is a play of consciousness where there really is no separation but rather consciousness forgets itself for the sake of play, it pretends to forget.

The last chapter of the book gives a good summary on nine interpretations of the soul and its survival and journey.

3 out of 5 stars On the right track, but..........2004-04-21

Mr Goswami appears to be on the right track with this research, however where the book falls down is that the sources he cites in support of his argument seem to be taken at such face value. I find this lack of 'scientific' methodology quite surprising since he has taught physics for 32 years. Certainly I agree with Mr Goswami that the standard 'proofs' are not available for this work, but even so, he needs to find a middle road, so that it doesn't just end up as just another 'new age' book. And that would be a shame! Somewhat different, but a good example would be 'Old Souls : Compelling Evidence from Children Who Remember Past Lives' by Thomas Shroder. In addition, chatty idea's sessions with his wife, limit one's ability to take his writing seriously. Finally, Mr Goswami should pick up the phone and call his publisher, who just-so-happens to publish 'Astral Dynamics: A New Approach to Out-of-Body Experiences' by Robert Bruce. Goswami will have many questions answered by reading this book. And, in the case of Bruce, I was willing to ignore any lack of scientific method, because from the moment you pick up the book, you KNOW that he knows what he is talking about. By comparison, Bruce's book is a groundbreaker.

4 out of 5 stars The esoteric made understandable.......2002-01-04

When death occurs in the family, our rational minds cry out to know more about life after death. Religions offer consolation that God is love and there is heaven beyond, but we wonder if there are any confirmations from studies of human minds which open doors to the after-life. Accordingly we have eagerly picked up books promising answers only to be quickly disappointed. Too many scientific words such as collective unconscious, determinism, morphogenetic fields, non-locality, etc., at best leave our minds only dimly grasping the author's intent. Reading into other cultures about dharma, maya, moksha, jivanmukta and vedanta, will cause us to send another promising book back to the library, or our lower book shelves, unread.
Aware of this too often encountered problem, the author of Physics of the Soul, has included a thirteen page glossary explaining the meaning and purpose of the lesser known words he has used. To those attempting to become adequate in reading this and similar books, such a service is a godsend. Using Goswami's glossary, we can not only understand his Physics of the Soul, but also, find light from numerous books previously beyond our comprehension.
Amit Goswami, along with other writers who have given many lectures and workshops, is aware of certain frequently asked questions. These he thoughtfully answers in chapter eleven. Here again, Physics of the Soul should draw, and hold, a much wider circle of readers than most books on similar esoteric concerns.

Book Description

The perfect book of inspiration and motivation for achieving New Year resolutions.

Need a physical and spiritual boost to kick the year off right? Need some extra power to reach goals and commitments? With hundreds of exercise plans, diet gurus, and spiritual advisors out there clamoring for airwaves, there's a noticeable void of inspiring stories to give people that extra push to get them started and keep them going This book is not a replacement for yoga or The Zone; it is a companion a reminder that hard work and determination really do pay off, and that our bodies are gifts to be cared for and treasured through exercise and healthy living.

4 out of 5 stars My first chicken soup book and not to be my last!.......2004-05-07

Since this is my first Chicken Soup book I have read, I can fairly say from a great portion of this collection that I have been touched and inspired. I also have a friend with Retinitis Pigmentosa and Grace's story hit the heart. I also have had a near death experience as described in Hal's story "Grateful Life, Joyous Passage" and found it such a joy to read that there is someone out there who has felt and truly experienced what I have and so much more. This collection will have something for everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Live, Dream, Be Yourself.......2004-01-30

The most promising feature of this book is that it made me feel it was okay to just, be me. I, too, have many inspirational experiences where words cannot express. Sometimes when I try, I fumble it up and lose my listener. The stories in this book are beautifully expressed with the right words to give me a lift. Definitely a book I'll be buying for my friends and family!

4 out of 5 stars People healing themselves.......2004-01-30

Another in the long line of Chicken Soup books, and as such, a bit predictable. Still, some of the stories are pretty amazing. Many stories of people with health problems that had been pretty much abandoned as hopeless by their doctors who decided that they were going to find some way to help themselves - and they did. One story about a woman Grace Halloran with retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease, who managed to improve her eyes enough to get her driver's license back. I have a friend with RP, and what she describes is really a miracle. I like stories about real people and their real lives. Yes, its another Chicken Soup book, but I bought it, I read it, I liked it and I recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Wasted on Jesus.......2006-02-26

A very good book if you want to get closer to the Lord. Good shipping time. Got the book in record time.

5 out of 5 stars Contemplation & Meditation.......2004-02-21

This book gave me a whole new desire and passion for meditating on God or His Word. The author pulls in a lot of quotes from different monks and nuns who were consistent in this necessary way of beginning to know God.

It is deep reading, but very good. I definitely suggest it!

5 out of 5 stars .......2004-01-29

This is a book for the hungry. This is for those who are deeply longing to experience more of Jesus & to delve into His heart which is passionately in love with His bride. This is a book about extravagant, "wasteful", lavish worship - & boy, is it good. I love it when I find a book that as I read it, I keep saying, "Oh, yes, that is exactly what I'm longing for", "yes, that is exactly what I want." But not only does "Wasted on Jesus" put words to desire, it also awakens even more deep longing - I dare you to read this book & not fall more deeply in love with Jesus.

5 out of 5 stars Get Wasted!.......2003-08-27

I've been a student of Christian meditation for years. Although this book is not about Christian meditation it covers it in many areas. This book is well written and flows well. It will challenge you to expand your relationship with Jesus.

"Wasted on Jesus" is packed full of thoughtful ideas to help you get closer to Jesus and enhance your Christian walk. This is a good book to read once but you'll want to keep it on the shelf and go back and read sections again and again. I suggested you get a new highlighter before reading this book, you may need it!

5 out of 5 stars My Hearts Desire.......2003-02-15

If you're going to read this book, you better grab a coffee and get ready for a visit. Reading this book has been like sitting with Jim Goll listening to him share his heart. If it is your hearts desire to be closer to Jesus in a real intimate encounter, this book will be a guide. If you are wanting "More",
more of Jesus, more of what he has waiting for you, enjoy the journey that awaits. Thank you Jim for sharing what God has shown you.
