Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Uplifting and Inspiring.......2007-09-04
A Time to Embrace was a wonderful sequel to A Time to Dance. In this book Kingsbury shows us the importance of trusting in God through all of the seasons of life. A Time to Embrace stresses the concept that God's ways are not our ways. We need to trust Him no matter how devastating our situations are.
I found this book very real to life and inspiring. Although the average person doesn't often find themselves in such extreme circumstances as John and Abby in this book, individuals can relate to such situations in their own ways. I would recommend A Time to Embrace to anyone who might be doubting their faith in God or having difficulty understanding uncertain circumstances in their life. It will help uplift and refresh your spirits.

While I thought this was a good book, I felt that it was just another Kingsbury predictable story. There's always some grand tragedy in all of her books (I've read 90% of them), things always resolve themselves in a good way. A character is given a 1% chance of living and always does. I'm a huge believer in trusting in God and following his plan, but most things in her novels are wrapped up in pretty little packages.
I was also bothered by the times where she practically rewrites A Time to Dance since I already read it. I skipped over those parts (and there were too many of them to count). The plot lines are typical, someone is struck by tragedy, someone loses their faith, someone reconciles with someone else, and faith is gained again. It has happened in all of her novels that I've read so far. I, like most others, thought the Kade story line was irrelevant. No need to cram in every moral lesson in one story.
My husband said, "If it's so predictable, why read them? Haven't all of her stories been this way?" I'm the type that just can't stop reading a book and will push myself to get through it. I just read these because my mom bought them for me, and I didn't want to look ungrateful. I'm taking a break now!
The book is ok, but definetly not the best. Try the first couple of books on the Redemption series. No need to finish the series, though. It's just like all of the other books.

This book is a classic Karen Kingsbury. It is a tale of life today and how God can overcome anything. It is very faith inspiring.

Embracing Life to the Fullest.......2007-01-10
Karen Kingsbury is an excellent writer who always pulls on your heartstrings. This book is the sequel to A Time to Dance, and it is just as excellent as the first one was. Kingsbury has a way of getting to the heart of the matter and giving her characters great depth. It is easy to put yourself in each one of the character's shoes and see life through each of their eyes. Always inspiring, Kingsbury is one of the best Christian fiction writers of our day. A Time to Embrace is definitely a book that you will want to embrace!

Good book but I believe there are better.......2006-11-27
The good: This book is easy to read and understand, assumes very little of the reader other than a general understanding of current science. Explainations are clear and build logically throughout the book. Very little math - any high school math would be enough to understand what little there is in this book. Information is up to date and the book has many good pictures and diagrams to aid in understanding.
The not as good: I would have liked more in depth detail. I know this is somewhat subjective the book still has nearly 500 pages, however the text often only covers 60% of a page. In comparison to the at least two compeating books "Astronomy Today" and "The Universe" have over 700 pages each and more like 90% of a text page coverage just to grossly compare them. Each of these books also are easy to read, have good pictures and diagrams too.
So all in all this book is good and covers the subject well, but if you wish more detail other books may be better choices.

This book is really good, especially for those interested in the universe and its formation. It also comes with a CDRom with video clips and a study guide for students. A useful, and interesting book!

I Love A Mystery!.......2007-08-09
I used to listen to this show when I was younger. I was so excited to hear it again on a cd. The quality of this cd is good. I recommend this cd to anyone that liked the show.
Reason it is the same material.......2006-04-14
To the other reviewer's point, there is a reason that this collection features the "same old shows" that have been kicking around for years, etc. If you read the Encylopedia of Old-Time Radio, you'll see that tapes of the other shows have not been found to date -- the only ones out there are from the later Hollywood shows, not the New York shows with the original cast. Rumors have circulated for years that the tapes are being hoarded somewhere ... but at any rate, these are the ones that are available, until more are discovered.
Another Scam Perpetrated on Us OTR Fans.......2005-12-19
Here again we have the same shows that have been kicking around for decades hugely over-priced to make yet ANOTHER buck out of someone else's work. There is nothing new here so don't waste your money.
Someday (maybe) someone will put together one of these things and will give us something that will make the collection worthwhile. How about the ORIGINAL CAST of "I LOVE A MYSTERY"?
Michael Raffeto is the original Jack Packard (and is the guy creator Carleton E Morse had in mind when he created the part) He, along with Barton Yarborough as "Doc Long" and Reggie Patterson as "Reggie York", are the cast who put I LOVE A MYSTERY into our living rooms back in the good old days...but...no...we get the same old version everybody's been hearing for years with Russell Thorson as Jack, Jim Boles as Doc and Tony Randall as Reggie.
Now, please, I'm saying nothing against these three actors...(nor against Tom Collins, who took over the part of Reggie after Mr Patterson's death --Tom sure got around---he inherited the part of Chandu the Magician too---the original Chandu was Gayne Whitman---interesting because he's the guy trying to get radio stations to buy ADVENTURES BY MORSE on those two "audition shows" you hear on this cd---they did a FINE job recreating these classic shows back in the early 50s but everyone HAS these or can get them much cheaper than they are being offered here...my point is if you're gonna charge me over twenty bucks for something it better not be something I can get free from any collector (minus the cost of a blank cd or dvd). Give me something I haven't heard!!! Please!!!
In the meantime save your money until the people putting these albums out finally realize they are going to have to put in some work if they want to make some money.

Another Kingsbury Masterpiece.......2007-09-04
Karen Kingsbury has once again created a masterpiece. A Time to Dance was both troubling and encouraging. It showed the differences between slefish love and true love. The book focused around two contrasting couples, a husband (John) and wife (Abby) struggling in their marriage and deciding that divorce is the only answer, and their daughter (Nicole) and her boyfriend (Matt) who have found true love. Kingsbury's description of John and Abby's struggle makes you feel like you are going through it. Her characters and their situations feel so real to life. When you look at John and Abby you are reminded that love, no matter how strong, can be compromised by everyday life. As you get into your daily routine it is easy to forget the people you love. The most important message found in the book is this: With God's help, anything is possible. Love that has died can be rekindled when you put God in the center of your relationships, work hard to do your part, and be willing to forgive others.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an intense read, especially those struggling in their own marriages. A Time to Dance hits the heart of the matter and delivers the best solutions to a rocky relationship.
A Marriage That Is Stronger Than It Loos, Or Is It?.......2007-07-18
Karen Kingsbury's A Time To Dance was a book I could not put down. I kept rooting for Abby and John Reynolds to stay together, for their love to survive. Abby thinks her husband John, the high school football coach may be having an affair with a new teacher at the school, who is very manipulative and would like to help this marriage fail.
The marriage is on shaky ground even before the arrival of the provocative new teacher. They've simply grown apart over the years, each interested in their own lives and careers. Abby is actually practically having an online romance with her book editor. They decide to announce they are getting a divorce at a family meeting but their daughter beats them to it announcing first that she's getting married. So as not to cast a pall over their daughter's wedding, the couple decides to put off telling their three children about the divorce until after the wedding ceremony.
Abby is forced to look at wedding gowns and get into scrapbooking with her daughter's overly chatty mother-in-law to be. The scrapbooking and other things the family does in preparation for the wedding make Abby feel things she doesn't want to feel, such as deep bitterness toward her husband, but it also makes her wonder if the marriage can be saved. John is also wondering if the marriage is truly doomed. But they're timing is always off and when one makes a gesture of reconciliation, the other rejects it. At time the book is gut wrenching, but it is a testimonial to the strength and courage of married love.

"A Time to Dance" is a moving portrayal of a marriage on the rocks--one which prompted serious reflection on my own marriage, both in deep appreciation for what I have and unnerving recognition of the ways in which I routinely fail to show that appreciation. I snuggled with my husband just a little more after finishing this book, and on that level, it scores a home run.
It was refreshing, too, to see Christian characters portrayed as human, having fallen out of the practice of their faith and fighting the same worldly emotions and battles as their secular cousins. To me, the big turnoff of much Christian fiction is that the characters are too wholesome and too perfect. That is noble and such characters make worthy role models, but it also makes them nearly impossible to relate to. Not so with John and Abby Reynolds, the seemingly perfect couple, soul mates, who have let life overtake their faith and obscure their love for one another, each blaming the other for the irreparable state of their marriage. Their sad miscommunications, bitter hostility, and deliberate avoidance felt all too real and convincing. I felt the pain of this couple's deteriorating union as they march on toward a resolution neither of them really wants, but neither knows how to avoid. For me, their story was a tearjerker. Here, too, I offer my highest kudos.
However, while Karen Kingsbury's writing style is highly engaging and accessible, I have come to find, over the course of reading several of her books, that her storylines are predictable. She uses the same devices and sappy clichés repeatedly, and while there is never any question about how John and Abby's story will end, it was all just a little too neatly and tidily wrapped up after the years of drifting apart. For that, I deduct one star. Nevertheless, this was a book I had a very hard time putting down. Definitely time well spent.

In her autobiography, Rumer Godden takes us through the years 1907 to 1946. She was the second of four daughters born to British parents who made their home in India. She tells magical stories of her life in India and how the colorful and lush country influenced her as a writer. The family seemed always to be traveling between England and India. The early part of her story is filled with the support of her warm and loving family. Her writing began as a child and continued throughout her life. Besides writing, she also loved to dance. As a young woman, she taught dancing and also ran several dancing schools.
Her marriage to Laurence Sinclair Foster took place in 1934. He was a stockbroker and a good deal of his life centered around social and athletic interests. She gave birth to two lovely daughters, but she ended up being their sole support because her husband was constantly in debt and deserted his family. BLACK NARCISSUS, which was her first truly successful book was published in 1939. Europe was in a turmoil and World War II was about to begin. Not the best time to begin a career as a novelist.
Godden spent the war years in Kashmir. She sustained her life and that of her children by renting Dove House which was an abandoned house far removed from the closest village. She grew her own food, and lived on very little money. Godden and her daughters suffered health problems because of the deprivation that they experienced during that time. Her strength and courage was impressive to read about. She wrote constantly and always spoke lovingly of her years at Dove House.
The book ends with a very hopeful Rumer Godden arriving back in England with the finished manuscript of THE RIVER tucked under her arm.
Rich memoir of Godden's first forty years........2000-07-19

New Look at an Old Show.......2003-04-19
Being a huge Andy Griffith fan, I picked this book up the other day. Don't know what I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised. Any Andy fan can tell you that the show was full of good, heart-warming stories, but I had never thought of the show in the terms presented by the author. To clarify, this book is not filled with epsisode trivia, or preachy sermon topics. However, it does present unique thoughts and observations regarding the timeless themes of Mayberry from a personal perspective. In almost every chapter, the author relates a personal story that will make you laugh, cry, or just reflect on simpler pace of life - kind of like The Andy Griffith Show used to do! If you have even a casual appreciation of the "Old Griffith Show", you will enjoy this book.

If you're a fan of Goober and the Mayberrians you will like this book. It will have a special place in your bookshelves. When at University of Alabama I met George Lindsey, who went to school at UOA. To me, Goob made the show! Take it from Sharon a longtime Goober fan.

This is a feel-good approach to a TV phenomenon that is still delighting audiences thirty years later. Fann has hit on one of the reasons for the show's success: each episode contains moral truths and spiritual guidelines intricately woven into the storyline, and these are just as applicable to today's sophisticated, special effects-bombarded viewers as they were to the technicolor-challenged children of the sixties. Fann devotes a separate chapter to thirty of his favorite episodes. He gives a brief synopsis of the events, and then he presents parallel biblical principles that he feels are being showcased. He often peppers his writing with anecdotes from his own experience, and many of these have a "Chicken Soup" kind of approach. I am so tired of the cliché response to critics those who can't do, blah blah blah. As if it constituted some sort of argument. Here's another cliché saying for you: You don't have to be a chicken to smell a rotten egg.
As to the example of Rich's venality, let's walk through the argument:
1) Rich writes a somewhat favorable review in which he discusses things he think would make it a better play.
2) The producers make those changes.
3) Rich thinks it's a better play.
What a monster!
Also, I love the hypocrisy of "mindless drones." Don't read reviews to figure out what to think...unless of course it's my review of Rich's book. Talk about mindless.
Rich is a fine writer with true insights and provocative opinions. You don't like them? Fine.
Let's Not Forget.......2003-08-23
While Rich's book may be a somewhat useful book of reviews he created for the New York Times, it must be remembered how he nearly ruined Broadway by writing hostile reviews of shows written by creative people he didn't like and glowing reviews for his personal favorites. He and his soon to be wife (Alex Witchel) who wrote the Friday Broadway column in times gave new meaning to the words "conflict of interest" and nearly destroyed Broadway in the process.

What better way to view 10+ years on Broadway than through the eyes of a theatre critic? The so-called "Butcher of Broadway" has collected a large number of his reviews in this volume, and it is a must-read for anyone who remembers the theatre of the 1980s, or wants to experience it for the first time. Rich's reviews are insightful, well-written, and succeed very often at drawing you into the shows, and making you feel like you are part of the audience. The addition of editorial comments, from a modern day perspective, helps put some of the events his reviews and articles detail into an even greater context. Whether you agree with everything Mr. Rich says or not, there are few better windows into the twelve or so years of New York theatre while he was the theatre critic for The New York Times.

This is one of the best purchases I've made in a long while. I sat up way past my bedtime pouring over this wonderful book. Frank Rich became the NY Times Theatre Critic shortly after I began making annual pilgrimages to NYC and staying abreast of what was happening both on and off-Broadway. Consequently, almost every show I've seen over the years is reviewed somewhere in this book. And how wonderful it is to re-visit some of those cherished experiences through his eye! Reading Rich's reviews of "Dreamgirls", "Amadeus", and "Angels in America" again gave me chills. His reviews of "Moose Murders" and "Carrie" had me laughing out loud. And his review of the 3,389th performance of "A Chorus Line" left me in tears. But more than just these isolated moments, the book as a whole provides a rich, varied overview of the commercial theatre during the last decade and a half, obviously written by a man who loved his job and knew what he was talking about. I think I've owned every edition of this book since 1978. It's been a staple in my library for years. It's a fantastic resource for tons of burning TV trivia questions. Looking forward to the new 9th edition in October 2007. Should be interesting to see the updates. Excellent book idea.

This really is a complete reference to every network and cable TV show since 1946 up to the last date for this publication, around 2003.
All the favoutites are here that one may care to mention - from West Wing to Dallas, Star Trek to Bonanza, and others you may have forgotten - Gemini Man, AfterMASH anyone?
The strengths of this book are in the synopses which are entertaining and informtive at the same time, so this book is more than just a dry listing of information. Also included is an extensive index on such items as longest season runs, Neilsen numbers etc.

It's been almost 4 years since the 8th Edition came out. A lot has happened on TV since 2003--Lost? Criminal Minds? Deadwood? House? Heroes?...the list goes on. I hope the 9th Edition is just as informative.

An excellent collection. It has settled many questions we have about what we were watching back then. With the weekly primetime schedules from the beginning to present, we obtain the program and then lookup all the information available on the subject and there is a lot to read about most of them!
