I am enjoying this book except I had expected the entire text. I was not aware that I was ordering a miniature at the time. I somehow overlooked that information. Beware iPod Users.......2007-09-28
The content of this set of 10 CDs is wonderful!! The problem is that each disk has between 45 and 70 tracks which are titled: Track 1, Track 2, etc. So... when you download them to your iPod, they get sorted alphabetically and you get Track 1 (from disk 1), Track 1 (from disk 2), etc. You have to either download one CD at a time, or rename all the tracks. It was very time consuming and disappointing not to have all I wanted in an organized way to download to my iPod. Just be aware when you buy these CDs.

This book is based on the ideas in Positive Discipline. There is practically nothing new, except the idea that a spirited child will test your limits again and again, so you have to be even more consistent. There! Now that you know that, just get the Positive Discipline, which is excellent. It describes the background of the method, specific approaches, gives you ideas for all ages. "Setting Limits", btw, is much harder to adapt to a toddler. The writing is leaves something to be desired as well.

Dr. MacKenzie is a God-send! The techniques in this book are helping to complete transform my relationship with my strong-willed 7 year old (who also has ADHD!). After all the years of being worn down by power struggles and tantrums, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my back. This book is well-written, a quick read, and TOTALLY PRACTICAL. The written derivations and examples were brief and difficult to understand. I gave up on using this book for learning DE,only use to practice problems required for assignment. After finding alternative study links, did the DE aspects become clearer. Solution manual did not bring much to the table either.

This is a good introduction to DE without alot of the unnecessary textual pollution often found in math texts. It's been around awhile (I used this one some years ago) but I found it was among the simplest, clearest, and best-written math texts because its approach assumes no prior knowledge of DE. From basic equations such as the famous Bernoulli to more complicated boundary-value issues, I was able to gain a solid and more complete understanding of the multivariable calculus I had just attended as well as preparation for higher math. Although it's been awhile, I do recall some errors in this book (as another reviewer has mentioned), so be aware.

The Boundaries in Marriage book and study by Cloud and Townsend is a wonderful study for newly married couples, long-time married couples and even engaged couples. To learn how to relate to our spouses in healthy ways--owning our feelings and attitudes but not accepting responsibility for theirs can be a very freeing concept once practiced. That is just one of the 10 "Laws of Boundaries" taught in this book and study--the other nine also have the potential of helping to create strong, healthy relationships if put into practice.
Anyone who has benefited from any of the other Boundaries books by these authors will also gain some helpful tools for marriage in this book.

My daughter married young. Guess what...they did not know how to establish personal or marital boundaries. This book easily explains possible boundaries and why. Highly recommended for anyone prior to marriage as it can help avoid many problems. Marital problems in progress read it together do the workbooks and move forward instead of the divorce court.

What a horribly un-biblical book. It flies in the face of the Genesis and New Testament accounts of marriage. Of course, what else can you expect from these two idiots, who will give "advice" on anything for a buck. Where was this book when I was dating at 16yrs old??? This book helped me reflect where I had been and where I wanted to go. It provided such great insight and wisdom. Great advice for safe dating/courting/friendships.......2007-04-11
This book was life changing. Coming out of an abusive situation which led to a divorce, I knew I needed help if I were ever to marry again! I figured that it was best to figure out why the abuse happened, as well as what I had done wrong in my choice of mate. This book was SO insightful that I wish it had been in print before my first marriage.
As it happens, I got into a dating relationship much sooner than I had expected. I had figured that I needed at LEAST 2 years to regroup before even planning to begin dating again. "Fate" had other plans. I got into a very bizarre and abusive dating relationship with a man who was unlike anyone I had ever known in that he manipulated me, lied, and had the gall to accuse me of trying to control him! Soon I began to feel those awful, trapped feelings from before.
I kept trying to step back and just slow things down (since he wanted to date me AND someone else at the same time and I happen to think one should be patient enough to date only one person at a time for the sake of other people's feelings). Part of the reason it felt so exhausting was the way he would talk about really wanting to marry me and then in the next breath tell me about a date he planned with the other gal he was just starting to see. When I challenged him about the hypocrisy and cruelty of playing with my feelings, he would accuse me of being controlling. When I tried to just be "coffee friends" until he decided how he felt about the other gal, he would accuse me of being controlling and not wanting the best for his son and himself. God had to finally wrest him away from me by having him dump me without telling me and then find out in a month or so that he was planning to marry yet a different gal in 4 months. Praise God for His mercy AND for THIS BOOK!
After the fact I read this book and it was like a bolt of lightning sending me back to reality. NO, it hadn't been wrong for me to tell him how I only felt comfortable dating one person at a time and only dating people who felt the same way. YES, I had been right to be bothered by the "little" lies he told me about his whereabouts. And YES, I was really wrong to have felt so desperate that I was so unattractive and getting old so fast (at 44--LOL) that I was not taking the time to think things through and to insist on an equal footing in our relationship.
I have given a copy of this book to several people, including to my own handsome but single sons:) One of them only barely escaped from a very controlling girl when she began to press him to change his college plans and get married a year early, before graduating from college and before having a very clear idea of what first job he wanted to pursue! He feels SO free having applied the principles of this book.
My story has a happy ending in that several months after the end of that nutty relationship I met a very honest, polite, considerate, generous, kind, affectionate, hard working man who just adores me:) It was a whirlwind romance, but the RIGHT kind. We are coming up on our 4th wedding anniversary and the 5th anniversary of our first email and first date. God is good and this book is the kind of great advice one would hope to get from BOTH one's mother and father (if one were smart enough to LISTEN to them--LOL).
I recommend this as essential, insightful reading for guys and gals from age 12 to age 100! If you follow these guidelines I can almost guarentee that you will NEVER get yourself into another abusive relationship. Just make sure that YOU are the same kind of person that the book discusses so that you may bless your date as well as he/she may bless you! Happy dating:)

Has nothing to do with real psychology.......2007-05-30
I am a psychologist, and am writing this review as a good-natured warning to consumers to be informed. Certain authors pretend to be spokespersons for psychology who are actually anything but, and who (in this case) seem to actually know very little about the study of psychology. Boundaries, a bestseller, has absolutely nothing to do whatsoever at all with sound clinical practice. It is nothing but Christian evangelism and apologetics. It references no studies, and has no research or evidence to back its claims. It is simply a book that tries to use the Bible and a narrow interpretation of Christianity to advance a certain religious viewpoint. It is silly fluff that might make someone of faith feel warm and fuzzy for awhile, but is not likely to instigate any important behavioral change or substantive and meaningful improvement. If this is what you are looking for, then more power to you. But beware, if you are actually looking for what REAL psychology (the science of clinical psychology) has to say about the importance of setting boundaries in your personal, familial, and professional life, as well as evidence-based suggestions on how best to do it, then it would be best to avoid this touchy-feely, religious propaganda. All you'll find here is nebulous vacuity, such as when the authors tell us that God respects our boundaries by not doing our work for us. Such passages least allowed me to enjoy this book as unintentional high comedy. This book is irresponsible nonsense all around.

Not a bad book at all. Physical applications well explained, theory OK but not as good in my opinion. Unfortunately, contains a fair number of typos, and the book is physically weak (the binding of mine is splitting after only 4 months of use) for a book of this price. Still, pretty good overall.
A good differential equations textbook.......2003-08-12
I think the strength of this textbook is the amount of material it encompasses: this book is used in two separate courses in my school--introduction to DE and engineering analysis. I didn't appreciate the textbook so much until I completed my differential equations course and then looked back at the sections on mechanical vibrations to review for my physics course. I then realized that the explanations and derivations were extremely satisfying, much more than your average introductory physics text. Also, the emphasis on the qualitative aspects of DEs, such as slope fields and phase portraits, aid in the coneptual understanding of the otherwise rigorous computation aspects of the topic. My only complaint is that the proofs could've been done in a more understandable manner.

On the whole I wasn't satisfied with the book. In all fairness I did take DE as a summer class. Maybe that's why I don't have fond memories of this book. I'm not an engineering major. I'm not physics major. I found the books almost constant reliance on engineering and physics to introduce concepts to be very disappointing. I think the book lacks balance. Also I found some of the examples lacking. I found better explanations of identical topics in my calculus book (Larson) and in my linear algebra book (Kolman). An engineer that I know tried to use the book to review some stuff and found it fairly useless. Dover makes some good cheap DE book.

The Surveyor's Bible.......2002-12-29
While preparing for my licensing exam, I read this book from cover to cover. It addresses every principle of retracement (sequential and simultaneous conveyances), public lands, and riparian issues thoroughly. The highlighted "principle" at the heading of each new topic makes remembering the main points simple. I can honestly say that every question on the NCEES exam that dealt with general principles and practice was answered in this book. I passed on my first sitting, and this book was one of the main reasons why. If you can only study one reference, this is it. Every practicing surveyor should also refer to it regularly.

Good book, and covers a well range. JustAsk is a feature they have for an extra cost. While I think it is better then the pearson prentice hall books and online content it still skips steps with eigen values and vectors.

The book tries to make things simple and fails miserably. The round-about explainations are confusing. The maladroit, verbose language obfuscates what they are trying to impart. (It's curious that the 5th edition I looked at is often clearer than this 8th edition, and it's shorter too.) What ahould be simple and direct is convolved (no pun intended) into meandering examples unworthy of the name, the point of which often a mystery even to those who are very experienced with ODEs, and obfuscatory verbosity. I'm baffled as to how they book's author (or anyone) thought this might be a useful style. If you are a Professor, then please be nice to the kids and don't use this. If you are a student, I strongly recommend you buy an additional textbook; it would amaze me to see anyone learn ODEs from this; it should be at least possible, albeit difficult, to learn the subject from a textbook alone.
Great text for ODE's class.......2007-06-01
I used this text in my ordinary differential equations class and found it to be very helpfull. This text had good coverage of material for an upper class undergraduate or first year graduate course. Each subject was introduced in a clear manner with a detailed outline of the derivation of the method being used. I had another text while I was taking this course and the authors of that text would give you a theorem and then the method or formula to solve your given problem with no connection between the two. This book was very best in allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of what you were doing. The authors did clearly state the theorems, but did lack in proof in most cases. They did gave an outline to proof most of the time, which was helpful in working my own proof. Overall this text is a good one and I would strongly recommend it.

Those of you that believe those 5 star reviews are true, forget it. After passing a course of differential equations throughout a grueling semester I can certainly attest to the latter.
This book has horrid if not completely non-existent examples and even the solutions manual is nearly worthless. If you've spent more than a semester without calculus you might as well forget trying to use this book in a formal course.
Perhaps if you're a "bright" student you could make use of this book, though still it is absolutely no testament to professional teaching methodology. If you intend to learn the subject for any moderate application, look elsewhere. This book has no practical application examples worth any salt. This book is not for engineers; most certainly it's best application being for theoretical mathematicians.

If I didn't have better things to live for, I would dedicate my life to hating this book. It's TERRIBLE! Visual learners shudder and linguists are baffled left and right. The examples don't match up AT ALL with the exercises and the book is not succinct at all, whatsoever. There is no elegance. This book is a disservice to mathematics. PLEASE, if your instructor requires this book, CHANGE INSTRUCTORS.

This book was so-o-o well written. It is very sympathetic and non-judgemental towards the children of Borderline parents - it gives them (us) hope for a better life through exercises and new ways of thinking about ourselves and the world.

This book was a difficult and great read. The author truly sets the tone for the adult child of a BPD parent, letting the adult child know that though the labels of BPD are difficult to swallow it allows the child to know they are not crazy nor alone. I recommend this book to all who have grown up in a home with a parent with BPD. Five stars indeed!

I must say, it's a wonderful read for anyone with a parent with BPD or BPD - tendencies. I spent years trying to figure out what was so "off" in my childhood household - this book lays it out and laid the foundation for several "A-ha" moments. I highly recommend.

This book contains an incredible wealth of knowledge and understanding of both the symptoms and reactions to this type of condition. While respecting the unique circumstances surrounding an individual's challenges in coping, it provides methods for overcoming the feelings of: confusion, frustrations, hurt, neglect, and even anger, among others, thus guiding you on your individual path to healing.
