My daughter loves the series.......2007-08-09
The Magic Tree House sure has the magical power to keep my daughter, a very active 7 year old, in her room for at least a few hours everyday. She just love these books! I will get the rest of the series for her very soon!
Great buy.......2007-06-27
My grandson loves this book series and was excited to get this set for his birthday.
magic treehouse books.......2007-06-04
My son checked one of these out at school. He did not put it down until he finished it and asked for more. So I gave him 3 sets. He did not like reading until he got these books. Service excellent.
Wonderful reading experiences.......2007-05-13
My grandchildren love these books. My daughter says the kids all look forward to their reading time and learn so much from these books.
The Ninja book is scary for younger children........2007-03-29
The Treehouse series is very good overall. We read 2-3 chapters a night as part of the bedtime routine for our 3 1/2 year old. The stories hold her interest and there are just enough illustrations to anxoiusly await the page to turn. Her vocabulary has also increased due to some less common words and names used as part of the stories.
A word of caution. The Ninja story is scary for younger children and the illustrations are frightening and creepy. We had to throw this book out in the trash.

Midnight on the Moon by Mary Pope Osbourne
This book was about a smart nine year old boy named Jack and his seven year old sister named Annie. I liked this book because it was very adventurious and fun to read. When I read this book I felt like I took an exciting trip into outerspace. Jack and Annie's goal on the moon was to find the last "M" thing from the four great series of books. To find out what happens to Jack and Annie on the moon, read this fantastic book. I give this book a 4 star rating because of its wonders and suspense. This is a book I would read again.
MY BOY LOVES READING IT.......2007-01-07
My 1st grader hates to put it down, he would rather read Magic Tree House books, than play video games. He even reads them to his class and explains the story for show and tell. In his kindergarten class the teacher would also let him read the Magic Tree House books out loud, not to give her a break, but to promote reading out loud. Great books!
Very disappointed.......2006-01-25
Since this series is so popular, my eight-year-old asked to get some from the library, so we checked out a few. I picked up this one, book #8, and read through it. The writing was extremely poor. I counted the statement, "Morgan nodded," six times in three pages, even though each page has very few words. Can't the author or an editor see such a glaring flaw? And there were many more flaws, extremely contrived dialogue being the worst offender.
The story was weak, and the characters were thin and hard to like. I can't see how this series became popular. We won't be checking them out again.

Now she has a new identity as Priestess Cassandra, owner of a New Orleans voodoo shop, and a new purpose. Now, haunted by violent dreams that grow more vivid as the midnight moon approaches, Cassandra must uncover the shocking truth about an ancient curse before it leads her to destroy herself-and everyone she loves..."Elise is Handeland's most appealing heroine yet...this tense, banter-filled tale provides...solid entertainment."Publishers Weekly on Dark Moon
Customer Reviews:
Cassandra's Story.......2007-08-15
I liked this book!
This one follows Crescent Moon where "we" first meet Cassandra (Priestess) in New Orleans.
Cassandra joins the group to hunt creatures, but she is really on a personal mission that deals with voodoo and bringing back the dead. (There is a reason she is searching for this).
Cassandra goes to Haiti and meets Devon Murphy (her guide).
This was a nice read. Full of adventure and the world of voodooism.
So So.......2007-07-17
I found book five of the series to be slightly disappointing. It was still a good read but lacked the werewolf edged passion I have come to expect from Ms. Handeland.
Jager-Suchers Rule!.......2007-07-11
Voodoo Priestess Cassandra has a ton of secrets, but her main desire is to raise her daughter from the dead. And where better to learn the secrets of the dark arts than Haiti, and an evil Bukor, Mezareau. Led into the mountains by a secretive, sexy and mysterious guide Murphy, who wears beads and feathers in his hair, Cassandra realizes and finds more than she bargained for. Finding romance, lots of mystery, and a few zombies, Cassandra struggles to find the answer to how to remove a curse from a fellow friend/Jager-Sucher, and resurrect her daughter. If you are a lover of the series, Handleland will not disappoint. And you will even get to see some of your other favorite characters in the series, Elise, Edward, Diana and more. It was an enjoyable read that took me only two days. Get it and read up!
Cool but Disappointing.......2007-07-03
I'd read Handeland's other Moon books and enjoyed them, but I was let down with 'Midnight Moon.' I really liked Cassandra in the previous novel, 'Crescent Moon,' but Ms. Handeland made Cassandra into a thing where, if you toss a bit of sex her way, she forgets all else.
That's all there really is to her story: she meets 'mysterious bad boy thief' Devon Murphy in Haiti while looking for a way to raise her daughter from the dead, they talk, get shot at, meet a voodoo master, have sex, learn new things about shapeshifters, have sex, more sex, and Cassandra has to go back home to New Orleans but he meets up with her there for some more sex. That's it. The only saving grace in the story is the rich details of Haiti and voodoo, but it comes in small pinches. I'm all for sex but it could have been so much more magical if 'sex' didn't equal 'love' in this book.
great.......2007-04-10
I thought it was one of the best in the Nightcreature Series so far. Handeland continues the series with Cassandra (whom we met in the previous novel--i.e. voodoo priestess) who is on a mission in Haiti to find a voodoo priest reputed to be able to raise the dead. Apparently, it is an art the society wants to know how to do to remove the curse (also from previous novel). Although, Cassandra has her own reasons for wanting to raise the dead. Apparently, Cassandra is in the witness protection and had lost her young daughter through a horrible situation from her past. Still grieving, all she can think of is having a way, a chance, to bring her back. Cassandra's past unfolds slowly as the novel and its mysteries also unfold.
I was completely engrossed in the storyline throughout this entire novel. I simply could not put it down. Handeland outdid herself with this one.
Book Description
THE MANUSCRIPT: Claire is desperate and destitute. Justin is reclusive and wounded. Together they tentatively explore forbidden passion and work together to decipher not only the ancient secrets of an old manuscript, but the intricasies of their newfound love. Justin isn't free, but is there a way around the censure of polite society? A beautiful ingenue and a solitary scientist find love matters more than scandal and some more than intruiging ideas for passion in The Manuscript... ~~~~~~~~~~ MIDNIGHT WITHOUT A MOON: Trenton Wyatt usually disdains gossip, but when it involves the younger sister of one of his best friends, he is forced to interfere before disaster strikes. Rescuing her from suspicious revenue officers by pretending she is his mistress brings both scandal and the wrath of her family down on his head, and before he knows what's happening, he is forced to wed the very beautiful, very reckless Jessica. Finally having the attention of the man of her dreams isn't exactly the fantasy Jessica Fairman imagined. For one thing, her arrogant new husband is both controlling and difficult to know...except, of course, sexually. In that way, the infamous rake performs predictably with exquisite skill and tireless passion, filling her nights--and days--with unbelievable pleasure. An unexpected union binds an aristocratic rogue and a determined young woman together in the dangerous darkness of Midnight Without a Moon...

yummy.......2007-06-08
The story line flowed from one chapter to the next. In fact, there WAS a story line, not just a number of encounters. But it's definitely not a book for the faint of heart.
Sinfully Delicious .......2007-02-27
Emma Wildes has a lyrical voice which draws you into her fabulous historical stories immediately and won't let go until you've finished.
Delicious heroes, strong heroines and a few twists and turns only added to my delight. I can't wait for more of her books.
I adored both The Manuscript and Midnight Without a Moon tremendously.
Please don't make me choose which I liked best.
They are both wonderful.
This one goes directly to my keeper shelf!
Thank you Ms. Wildes for a magnificent read.

A Fantasy from Madeine Baker! .......2007-07-18
What a great book, love, duplicity, fantasy wolf change shifters, ancient prophecies and a great plot. What is not to love! It was good to see that Madeline Baker has the breath to write something other than Native American love stories.
I feel that this is one of her best works.
Wonderful Book!!.......2005-08-29
This is one of my favorite books!. Hardane and Kylene are wonderful characters and fall in love. Hardane, a shape shifter, is a wonderful man and falls in love with Kylene even though he is betrothed to her twin sister, or is he? they are twins after all. which one was really born first?, and they go through many trials to be together. A truly wonderful and imaginative book. I commend you Madeline Baker.
FASCINATING !!!!!!!!!!.......2004-04-27

This was my first Madeline Baker and it surely won't be the last.
Beneath a Moon Light is full of adventure, action, love an fantasy. I highly recommend you to read it.
Pure, Deep Romance. Beautiful and heart- melting........2003-10-12
The romance between the two main characters is so pure and unspoiled, I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to read more and more of it. The love scenes are actually quite tame, but the passion is through the roof. The characters are totally connected, even in thoughts and dreams. Beautiful story!
Plenty of excitement and surprise twists. Never once did the story get boring.
Excellently written, so you feel a connection with many of the characters of the story. You feel their losses and victories.
I have a new respect for Madeline Baker.

Magic Tree House Books 1-4.......2002-05-07
I bought this set on tape for my son's 6th birthday so we could listen to them in the car while travelling. The stories are well-done and made him use his imagination. We enjoyed trying guessing what dinosaurs were being described and he wondered if the kids could see the moon and stars while they were in the castle. Even my 3-year-old had a good time listening. They can't wait to go on another trip to hear more of the stories.

I AM A GRANDMOTHER OF A 7 YR OLD BOY. I WISHED THAT I COULD
DEVELOP A LOVE OF BOOKS IN HIM LIKE I HAVE. THE TREE HOUSE SERIES HAVE DONE JUST THAT. MY GRANDSON AND I TAKE TURNS READING EACH CHAPTER. I AM NOT SURE WHO ENJOYS THE STORIES MORE ME OR HIM. WE CAN'T WAIT FOR THE WEEKENDS SO WE CAN READ TOGETHER.
Dinosaures Before Dark.......2002-03-01
How would you like to ride on a pteranodon? Now you can! You could ride a pteranodon when you read magic tree house dinosaurs before dark. Annie's brother Jack did. Jack and Annie were also chased by a Tea-rex, and Annie tried to make friend with a duckbilled Dinosaur she was trying to talk to the Dinosaur. Jack kept taking notes. Jack and Annie now there is a magical witch or wizard because Jack found something that had an M on it.

Mummies In The Morning
Pirates Past Noon
THESE BOOKS ARE THE BOMB BECAUSE I LIKE JACK AND ANNIE. THE ADVENTURES START IN THE TREE HOUSE. THE TREE HOUSE WAS FILLED WITH BOOKS. THE BOOKS TAKE THEM ON ADVENTURES.
This is Great!.......2001-07-10
The Magic Treehouse books are good for kids who have missed out on some reading skills. It is also good for 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders. Jack and Annie, the stars of the book, get into a lot of adventures and it is fun to read them. Mary Pope Osborne reads the books on the tape. She makes it so you really hear Jack and Annie's voices. I think kids will like this tape and grown-ups would like to hear the stories with their children. -- Munroe Woodward, Age 8
Customer Reviews:
Philly Noir.......2005-08-23
This is was my second Goodis movel (see Blonde on Streetcorner). I'm really attracted to this genre (which I don't consider noir as much as working class fiction). And being a Philly kinda guy, I realize that Goodis' books are set in a fictional Philadelphia. The street names have been changed but this book probably takes place down in the Southwark and Two Street section (now more & more gentrified) when it was the home of dockworkers and poor working class. Praise for the working class existentialism of the anti-heros who endure their fate (freedom that Sartre might question as authentic freedom, yet his notion that we are "condemed to be free" is the essential notion even for our guy Kerrigan who always seems to be on the edge of escaping his environs). I think this book was much more literary than "Blonde" in its reach for descriptive symbolism. Goodis is always dealing with stock characters and their cliches, but then, do we really expect any other kind of realism from pulp fiction?
gritty story, but what about that ending?!?.......2002-12-30
David Goodis is the champion of the down-and-outs, druggies, boozers and misfits. In 'The Moon in the Gutter' we have an interesting story about a stevedore (dock worker) and his utterly miserable existence. He has difficulty in coming to grips with the grisly death of his sister, his home life is a disaster, and his future looks bleak. But then he meets a blonde from the other side of the tracks and ....
While I won't give any spoilers here let me just say I felt very let down by the ending of this novel. David Goodis brings the reader into the life of this poor soul and shows us his world without compassion. Towards the end the tension builds (..again no spoilers) but the author fails miserably in tying it all together at the end. Very disappointing.
Bottom line: a missed opportunity by Goodis. Intriguing, but best left to Goodis fans only.
Hamsun Noir.......1999-10-12
This guy is the Knut Hamsun of Noir. Grit, realism served up filthy-delphia style. His characters speak in the harsh dialect of wasted lives, guts, soul and all other essentials of the True Predecessor of Bukow, Selby, Fante, and Leonard Gardner...the beauty of ugliness is the religion of Goodis and his brash honesty and no-holds barred grappling prose style make him one of the greats.
One of Goodis's Lesser Efforts.......1999-03-20
Goodis's second-tier novels aren't really stories so much as they are examinations of his morbid psychology. Stay away from this one, Cassidy's Girl, and The Blonde on the Street Corner.
Goodis is a really good mystery writer.......1999-01-01
Seven months ago, Bill Kerrigan's beloved sister committed suicide rather than lives with the memory of the assault on her body by an unknown assailant. Bill remains in shock, visiting the alley off of Philadelphia's Vernon Street where his sibling died.
After spending some time in the alley, for some reason known only to him, Bill decides he needs a beer so he goes to the nearby Dugan's Den bar. At the dive, Bill meets Newton Channing, a slumming wealthy uptowner. When Newton's classy sister Loretta comes to take him home, an immediate bond forms between her and Bill. However, he is a stevedore, residing in the slums while she is class personified. Even if Bill can put aside his ghastly obsession of finding the culprit behind his sister's death, this couple has no chance of making it.
THE MOON IN THE GUTTER is a reprint of a great urban Noir. The characterization is deep and very intriguing because of David Goodis' insight into the Vernon Street dwellers. The story line is haunting as its serves up to prove that the author was exceptionally good at his craft. Readers who give this novel a chance will search the second hhandbook stores for more works by Mr. Goodis.

Customer Reviews:
A pleasant surprise!.......2003-08-27
Lovely! A charming hero, well written dialogue and wit and humor. A real surprise considering the cover gave the impression of another bodice ripper. The story in a nutshell:
To all of England, the fearless warrior known as the Moon Lord is a legend. To Rosamund Bourton, the mistress of Wynnsef, he is more. An imposing figure in black armor, Tancred de Vierzon has arrived at the gates of her family estate as its new master. It is his just reward for service to King Richard and his revenge for the shocking betrayl of a fellow crusader : Rosamunde's own brother.
A touching love story........2002-02-27
I really loved 'The moon lord'. All the characters are lovable. The story is set in Medieval. The devastatingly handsome Trancred de Vierzon is known as The moon lord. He is awarded by king Richard the right to take Wynnsef. When he arrives at the estate, Rosamund of Wynnsef tries to resist him because she is bound to be loyal to her brother. She feels guilty that she falls in love with her enemy. This book is a beautifully written tear jerker. (ok, there is a happy ending to it). At first one might think that this book would end in such a heartbreaking way but there is a lighthearted surprise to happily end the story. Ms.Wilhelm depicts what is in their hearts and their feelings so wonderfully that I got swept away with them. Secondary characters also add colors to the story. There is a secondary romance between the two main secondary characters and this helps ease the tension of the story. This book will make you laugh and cry and the characters will have their parts in your heart for a long time.
Very Well Done Story.......2001-11-01
I really enjoyed The Moon Lord. This author takes a very overdone storyline and makes it into a very touching romance. I do not want to give the story away, but I will say what I liked. I liked the fact although the hero is out to get revenge on the heroine's brother for a past betrayal, he does not make the heroine pay for her brother's deeds. I also liked the fact that they like more about each other than physical appearance.
All in all, a very well done story.
A highly recommended read!.......2000-09-04
With her Lord brother away and Wynnsef castle and its holdings under siege by a greedy neighbor, Rosamund Bourton fears that all hope is lost. Then, an unknown army of crusaders appears before her eyes and fights back the offensive forces until they retreat. Rosamund rejoices--Wynnsef is saved! But who is its savior?
Troubadours recount heroic tales of a Moon Lord--Tancred de Vierzon, known for his black armor and silver and black pennon emblazoned with a moon. Having heard these chansons de geste, Rosamund soon realizes the identity of the fearless leader who has saved the castle from destruction. But why would he save Wynnsef?
Now face to face with this stunning warrior, Rosamund is grateful and then shocked when he claims the castle as his own. Adamant that she will keep her castle, she closes the doors to the Moon Lord and raises all defenses. But, in the dark of the night, a black-gloved hand awakens her and bids her to surrender. Captive, she has no choice. Rosamund vows to escape, and when she does, she will win her home back from this arrogant conqueror. But will she win back her heart?
"Deliberately continuing to examine the sword, Rosamund did not look up to meet her captor's gaze. Willing herself not to react to the heavy silence, or the magnetic pull of his attention, she noted that the quillons of the weapon were masterfully wrought to resemble a falcon's wings. Set into the round pommel was an orb of flawlessly clear rock crystal. With a sinking feeling, she realized that this was no ordinary weapon. She had heard it described several times, each in a different chanson de geste. No longer could she deny that this man was indeed Tancred de Vierzon." Terri Lynn Wilhelm, author of A Hidden Magic and Highland Jewel, again dazzles readers with this compelling saga of a woman in fear of losing her home and a man afraid of losing his heart. The Moon Lord shimmers with a captivating storyline and a star-studded lineup of enchanting characters, including the beguiling but tormented Tancred, the stubborn but enthralling Rosamund, King Richard the Lionhearted, a head-strong Abbess, a lustful soon-to-be nun, an enamored Saracen, and a bevy of villains and traitors.
Part of Signet's "Lord of Midnight" series, specially priced at only $3.99, The Moon Lord is a steal! Despite the low price, The Moon Lord is a must-read, and a bargain at even triple the price!

The Moon Lord really shines!.......1999-10-23
Tancred de Vierzon is, indeed, the type of hero from whom legands spring. Having survived betrayal and a Saracen hell-hole, he has returned to England to lay siege to his enemy's holding. Rosamund of Wynnsef attempts to protect her brother's castle but the Moon Lord out manouvers her, gaining the holding with deceptive ease. As Tancred sets about trying to learn to run a large estate, Rosamund sets herself to resist Tancred's claim...inch by inch. While her brother is the medieval equivilant of a jerk, he is, after all, her brother, and that blood tie demands her loyalty. With a deft hand, Ms Wilhelm weaves a scintillating tapestry of courageous protagonists, engaging characters, and fascinating snipits of medieval life. The piece de resistance, of course, is the unwilling but growing love between Rosamund and Tancred. Truly a love story worthy of a legend.
Wonderful!
