5 out of 5 stars Applied compendium of best practices.......2007-01-23

When you search the web and most of the books around, you can find solution to your problems most of the time, but you are rarely sure it was the best way to do it and how it would fit to the rest of your code. The authors of this book are not afraid to tell what they suppose to be the best for you, along with full featured versions of code illustrating each chapter.

I found it easy to take the code from a sufficiently leveled chapter and adapt it to get just the application that I needed, knowing it would be fast, clean and complete at the same time, although I didn't understand all the details at first. Now, the book serves as a widely findable documentation for the packages that I make. Highly recommendable.

5 out of 5 stars A great how-to book for serious Excel users.......2007-01-17

When picking up this book, I was an advanced Excel user. Having discovered most of its features by trial-and-error, and coming from a fairly solid programming background, I understood well the interaction between the underlying object model and the sheets appearing on the screen to end users. I have also crafted many sophisticated worksheet formulas, and explored just about every suggestion of literature such as "Excel Hacks" and "Advanced Excel Report Development".

Professional Excel Development offers ideas and tools necessary for designing full-fledged, robust Excel-based applications. It does not spend time explaining how various features work, but rather goes into detail on how to put these features to best use.

Here is what I picked up from this book, together with the authors' Excel 2003 VBA reference:
* ways to leverage Excel's built-in features to avoid excessive coding
* advanced design techniques for using Excel as a WYSIWYG interface designer
* techniques for creating custom menu bars and programming their behavior
* various means of interacting with the user and simplifying their sessions by providing guidance as to which steps need to be taken
* restricting the Excel environment to take on the appearance of a product condusive of the goal stated in previous bullet
* using VBA in conjunction with the Excel object model to create powerful object-oriented structures for spreadsheet-based applications
* programming Excel-based solutions in an executable to provide a more standalone application
* using Windows API calls to increase robustness of the application

One key feature of this book is its consistent approach. The authors maintain a consistent structure, using the same application throughout the book for their "practical example" to demonstrate new features made available through the material in each chapter. Also, the "best practices" approach provides a level of consistency that is generally desired of anywhat sophisticated applications. Useable modules are provided on the accompanying CD, ready to be used in readers' own applications.

In the beginning, the authors explain the audiences for which this book may or may not be intended. They separate these into users, power users, VBA developers, Excel developers, and professional developers. The latter three categories of users will benefit the most from this book, each in his/her own way. VBA developers will learn how to use built-in features (I think this is where I started); Excel developers will learn how to incorporate Excel-based solutions into larger applications; Professional developers will be exposed to a great variety of "best practices", optimization techniques, and various other means for developing consistency in Excel applications.

If you do not fall into the latter three categories, you might not pick up much from this book. It is not useless to you, however; you can still find many worksheet/userform design techniques, and get an introduction to the kind of power VBA-based programming can offer. Nonetheless, you may be well-advised to start off with something simpler, such as John Walkenbach's Excel Power Programming (as alluded to by the authors of this book), simply because the present book assumes a good degree of knowledge and leaves much for the reader to figure out from the fully-functional examples provided - thereby covering the ground that it does.

Overall, this book makes for a wonderful reference to the various under-the-hood features of Excel. Even if you've already encountered many of the techniques described, and could technically discover them further on your own, it is useful to have them readily available in a single collection. Very few items are left out; application design, object-oriented programming techniques, database applications, debugging techniques, Office automation, and external interop are all covered here. Professional Excel Development is a solid reference to be consulted for years to come.

5 out of 5 stars Not a book for lBeginners.......2007-01-08

This is a great book for power programmers. But be aware, this book is not for those who want to learn Excel. It's just for those who know Excel and want to imrove their programming capabilities.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good not for novice VBA programmers.......2006-11-04

Buy this book because you want to be able to use VBA to help you at work. I wrote a program to automatically generate and send reports via email - about 500 of them - and my boss was in awe.

You CAN develop VBA custome applications where the user can't see the underlying MS Office application, i.e., Excel for example. They use your program like any stand-alone application. COOL!!!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Tool for Programmers !.......2006-11-03

In spite of being an advanced book, difficult concepts are explained clearly and in a very simple way.

You can find a lot of advices on best practices throughout the book as well as very powerful techniques that are really useful while you develop your applications.

For an advanced VBA programmer, this book is a must.

4 out of 5 stars Dreamweaver.......2007-10-01

This book was okay, but it seemed to be basic things you could learn just by looking around a little bit. I was hoping for more indepth things to help me in my confusing class taught by someone who mumbles and can't speak English. Instead, I found myself still basically teaching myself. I recommend this book for any new beginner, someone who has trouble finding things on their own. It was helpful in some ways, but was not everything I was looking for.

5 out of 5 stars Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 Hands-On Training.......2007-08-26

I am taking a web design class at City College of San Francisco : Developing websites using Macromedia 8. The text book used in this class is this book. I have found this book extremely helpful to understand the lecture given by the instructor in the class.

After having worked on a few charpters in this book, I have an impression that this book may even help those people who do not have time to take a class to learn about developing and designing a web page by solely using this book because of its Hands-On-Training feature. My experiences of working on this book tell me that the first two chapters are essential for successfully working on this book and the users of this book should spend more time on the first two chapters.

5 out of 5 stars Great starter guide.......2007-07-17

I'm new to Dreamweaver and found this an excellent place to start. The tutorials are easy to follow and the book is clearly written.

5 out of 5 stars The best DW book ever.......2007-07-05

This is not reference book but it's a great quick start to the program. All exercises are divided by chapters, so you have to do #1 through the end to complete and cannot start halfway in the chapter. This book was very easy to use for me because of familiarity with other graphic layout programs and interfaces, so you should obtain some other manual if it looks mind boggling. Basically throughout the book you are "building" a website for a pseudo company that sells tea and tea things. But you are given files in each chapter missing only the things that you need to learn instead of starting out with a blank page each time. Also you are asked to do things multiple ways either in the interface or what is technically appropriate (Page properties vs CSS). Great intro to CSS, it takes a few chapters after completing the CSS chapter to really get the hang of it: you even get to learn how to build a nice rollover navigation. The videos are great too, they show some additional techniques.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to follow along book and cd combo.......2007-07-04

I was taking an entry-level course on DW 8 at the community college and they listed this book as the required text book. I have no idea why, because the instructor never referred to it and just did his own thing. But I have learned more from the book on my own than I did from the class. Of special merit are the video tutorials that come on the cd. As you complete the exercises in each chapter, there is supplementary related material presented in video form on the cd.

The only problem is that you learn to build the particular tea-selling website that is being built in the book. While 75% of the materials is either applicable or of possible interest, there is still this 25% gap of knowledge that leaves you stranded when you are faced with the prospect of staring at a blank project of your own and putting your own content in it. I may know how to insert the file that the author created from his folder to his page, but how do I create my own file to insert in my own page?

[..]

There is no substitute for hands-on experience, and I have obviously not been gifted with intuitive knowledge of web principles. I constantly manage to get myself into situations where what I do just plain doesn't work, but no book (or library of books) can prepare you for the challenges you will face trying to implement your own ideas in the real world. But this one comes fairly close.

This timeless Dr. Seuss classic was first published in 1960, and has been delighting readers ever since. Sam-I-am is as persistent as a telemarketer, changing as many variables as possible in the hopes of convincing the nameless skeptic that green eggs and ham are a delicacy to be savored. He tries every manner of presentation with this "nouveau cuisine"--in a house, with a mouse, in a box, with a fox, with a goat, on a boat--to no avail. Then finally, finally the doubter caves under the tremendous pressure exerted by the tireless Sam-I-am. And guess what? Well, you probably know what happens, but even after reading Green Eggs and Ham the thousandth time, the climactic realization that green eggs and ham are "so good, so good, you see" is still a rush. As usual, kids will love Dr. Seuss's wacky rhymes and whimsical illustrations--and this time, they might even be so moved as to finally take a taste of their broccoli. (Ages 4 to 8)

5 out of 5 stars Great book.......2007-10-07

A great book. Perhaps it's a little repetitive for those of us who have read it 15 times to our children, but at its heart this is an uplifting, joyful book. Try it - you'll like it!

1 out of 5 stars I shudder at the message this story sends to our children........2007-09-09

If you're searching for a literary example of peer pressure, look no further than Dr. Seuss's subtly horrifying "Green Eggs and Ham." The "hero" of this tale, Sam-I-Am, spends the entirety of the book trying to force green eggs and ham upon a nameless skeptic. The "villain" turns down the offer several times, but Sam-I-Am persists, going so far as to follow him home in order to make him try the green eggs and ham. He uses several textbook methods of peer pressure, including the famous, "You'll never know that you don't like it if you don't try it." He refuses to respect the man's right to say no, and badgers him incessantly until he caves under the pressure.

What disgusts me most about the end of the story is that once the man tries the green eggs and ham, he loves them and is simply another addition to a pool of addicts. Dr. Seuss's tragic allegory for the rising drug use among young people that plagued his time period is brilliant, but certainly not appropriate for young children. Sam-I-Am is too easily twisted to become a hero, opening the antagonist's mind to new things, rather than a metaphor for Satan as I believe was originally intended.

In conclusion, do not read this book to your children unless you are willing to explain to them that people like Sam-I-Am should be avoided at all costs, and that they should never follow the path of the story's antagonist.

4 out of 5 stars Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03

Dr Seuss is most definitely responsible for putting a lot of people off their dinner, and also for encouraging the experimentation with food coloring in a whole range of normal foodstuffs that probably did not need spectrum alteration in the first place.

What a devious, sneaky and subversive publication.

5 out of 5 stars Green Eggs and Ham.......2007-07-16

This book is great for all ages. This book is great for children who are just learning to read and who need help with rhyming. The book is small enough that a child can hold it themselves and don't have to worry about harming the book or dropping it.

5 out of 5 stars Green eggs and ham ??? In one word, how---absurd !!! SMILES.......2007-07-12

The children's book entitled Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss does a great job of teaching young kids to try new things while increasing their vocabulary. The illustrations are very nicely done with hybrid "things" replacing people. These "things" are part human and part "thing"--great concept to stimulate a child's imagination! The text is written in easy to understand words so that with a little help your child be able to read this book independently soon.

The book tells a cute story of how a smaller "thing" or, "person named Sam" follows a "grown up thing" or, "person who is not Sam" around, beseeching them to try some food they've never eaten before, namely green eggs and ham. Happily, the food turns out to be delicious in the end. While the basic moral of the story is not to be afraid of trying new things; the child learns a lot of vocabulary and comparisons at the same time. Great!

Specifically, children learn the concepts of "here," "there" and "anywhere;" "like" versus "do not like;" and modes of transportation including "car" and "train." Excellent!

The book is nicely bound and the strength of the hardcover binding makes the book tolerate the bending and occasional carelessness of a young child who is learning to read partly by using this book. Great!

I highly recommend Green Eggs and Ham for younger kids who are just learning to read. This book will increase their vocabulary by introducing words, comparisons and pictures. The child gets encouragement to try new things; and the adorable illustrations will delight children everywhere.

Great job, Dr. Seuss!

When Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island, send for a boy orphan to help them out at the farm, they are in no way prepared for the error that will change their lives. The mistake takes the shape of Anne Shirley, a redheaded 11-year-old girl who can talk anyone under the table. Fortunately, her sunny nature and quirky imagination quickly win over her reluctant foster parents. Anne's feisty spirit soon draws many friends--and much trouble--her way. Not a day goes by without some melodramatic new episode in the tragicomedy of her life. Early on, Anne declares her eternal antipathy for Gilbert Blythe, a classmate who commits the ultimate sin of mocking her hair color. Later, she accidentally dyes that same cursed hair green. Another time, in her haste to impress a new neighbor, she bakes a cake with liniment instead of vanilla. Lucy Maud Montgomery's series of books about Anne have remained classics since the early 20th century. Her portrayal of this feminine yet independent spirit has given generations of girls a strong female role model, while offering a taste of another, milder time in history. This lovely boxed gift collection comprises Anne of Green Gables, Anne of the Island, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of Windy Poplars, Anne's House of Dreams, Anne of Ingleside, Rainbow Valley, and Rilla of Ingleside. (Ages 9 to 12) --Emilie Coulter

Book Description

5 out of 5 stars The Complete Anne of Green Gables Boxed Set.......2007-09-02

I was very pleased my books came very quickly. They were new so they were in perfect condition. The whole set of books were very reasonably priced, and I'm enjoying reading them.

5 out of 5 stars Just love Anne Shirley!!.......2007-07-17

This series is the most wonderful and entertaining of books!
I got the first book from the library and fell in love with it, and so bought the series from Amazon. These are my favorite books, and I am on my second time through them.

The series starts off about Anne, an orphan girl, who gets sent from the Asylum and goes to live with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert of Green Gables.
Her life is filled with hilarious predicaments! Dyeing her hair, falling off the Barry roof, daydreaming and imagining to much, and plus, her rivaly with handsome Gilbert Blythe.

I highly recommend this series! I loved the rest of the books as much as I loved the first! Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote a masterpice! You will definitely fall in love with imaginative Anne Shirley!

5 out of 5 stars Just like I remembered.......2007-07-17

This series is really great. I started from the first book and couldn't put them down. The story is just as intruiging and wonderful as when I read it the first time when I was younger. VERY VERY VERY enjoyable!

When my Grandfather was a boy he speant time on PEI on a farm located very near where Green Gables would have been. He bought this set for me long before i was able to read and they sat on my shelf until my high school years when i finaly picked them up. I had watched the movies with my Grandfather as far back as i could remeber and assumed the books would be worth reading. They quickly surpassed all other books and became my favorite.
Now, having just graduated college and looking for a litte direction and inspiration (like Anne I'm looking for work as a teacher) I picked them back up and have been rereading them. I feel like these books such life lessons that anyone with any beliefs can read them and learn good values.
These books and movies have always been like a comfert food for me these are the books and movies i read and watch when things are going bad.
I highly reccamend these books to people of al ages, they are well worth the time, and are a nice and easy read.

5 out of 5 stars Great Gift for Poker Lover.......2007-09-20

I got this for my husband and he hasn't stopped reading it. He will only pause to tell me something he thinks I might want to hear. 8-) I'm not a poker person, but with all the Poker on TV that I've seen (because of my husband) and listening to him endlessly talk about it, I think if these books have kept his attention the way they have, they must be good.

I don't know if that helps you but knowing my hubby, anything that pulls him away from playing poker must be good.

5 out of 5 stars they look great, fun and easy to read.......2007-09-18

As I said, this set looks great on my "poker books shelf" :) But aside that, it's a great read. Even the black book with many interesting details about poker. Green book is well written but my favorite is the blue book. It was so valuable to me to have a free ride threw profesional's poker mind. Highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Great poker books!.......2007-07-24

I have read 15-20 poker booksa and these are among the best I have read in a long time. Phil's dedication to the game and his committment to keep learning is well communicated in an easy to read style. It keeps you entertained and makes you feel ready to be more aggressive with a better understanding of what winning poker is about.

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT.......2007-05-07

EXCELLENT trio of books for novice to expert. Phil does a great job of explaining as well as challanging you to think. your game will definately improve after this book. Put it together with Dan Harringtons 3 books and you can't find a better poker combo period. 2 contrasting style of players but overall the same message. Just a great trio of books.

Book Description

"Microsoft Office InfoPath represents a revolutionary leap in XML technologies and a new paradigm for gathering business-critical information. I am delighted that Scott Roberts and Hagen Green, two distinguished members of the InfoPath product team, decided to share their experience in this book."

--From the Foreword by Jean Paoli, cocreator of XML 1.0 and Microsoft Office InfoPath

Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007 offers breakthrough tools for gathering, managing, and integrating business-critical information, and creating efficient forms-driven processes. Two longtime members of Microsoft's InfoPath product team have written the first comprehensive, hands-on guide to building successful XML-based solutions with InfoPath 2007.

The book opens with a practical primer on the fundamentals of InfoPath form template design for information workers and application developers at all levels of experience. It then moves into advanced techniques for customizing, integrating, and extending form templates--with all the code examples and detail needed by professional developers.

5 out of 5 stars The InfoPath book to judge all other InfoPath books by.......2007-06-16

This is the first InfoPath book I have found answers every question I have had about InfoPath. The beauty of this book is although it does cover a lot of the technical side of InfoPath it also deals with some of the simpler solutions that are best achieved with just the InfoPath designer and declarative logic. With an easy to read style and lots of samples this book has become the definitive InfoPath resource in my technical library.

If you're just beginning with InfoPath this book is for you. If you've creating solutions with InfoPath since day one I'm still confident that this book would be a worthwhile investment.

Good job guys!

4 out of 5 stars Great Detailed InfoPath 2007 Book .......2007-03-30

This book is a great narrative style resource for learning all of the elements and techniques in InfoPath 2007. The style of writing is a bit different as it has more of a reading focus than a reference focus. So if you are looking for solely a reference book you might want something different. The authors are TOP NOTCH though and do an excellent job.(Especially with Forms Services gotcha's/warnings) The demos/samples/sample forms they let you download from the Addison Wesley website are WELL WORTH THE EFFORT of getting and are a great learning tool.

4 out of 5 stars A comprehensive resource for InfoPath and Forms Services 2007.......2007-03-05

This book was written by two Microsoft employees focused on InfoPath, and includes a foreword by InfoPath cocreator Jean Paoli. At ~1,200 pages, it's a timely and thorough resource for developers who need to understand InfoPath and Forms Services, including coverage of VSTA, VSTO, and other related topics. It's unsurprisingly a largely accentuate-the-positive book, but it also includes useful summaries of, for example, features that can be used in the InfoPath client but not in Forms Services.

5 out of 5 stars XML with little or no programming.......2007-03-04

As XML has become the industry standard, Microsoft has increasingly oriented its Office suite to use it. The latest result is this enhanced InfoPath, in its 2007 incarnation. The book is divided into two parts. Each targeting a different audience.

The first part is aimed at a general purpose Office user, who is not assumed to be a programmer. It addresses what is a problem plaguing XML. If you want to make a new XML schema to use as a template for future data instances, you often have to write the explicit XML tags. Unfortunately, the syntax can be overwhelming to many. Plus, explicitly writing the tags is extremely error prone. What InfoPath has done is make an easy to use graphical front end. Far friendlier to the user. This user interface then can generate a schema in a robust fashion. Even people capable of editing schemas directly might still want to use what Microsoft has provided.

Along these lines, chapter 5 is a good example. While not perhaps directly concerning schema, it tackles the problem of validating what the user types into a form. It follows the approach that you should clean up your data as early as possible. Preferably before it even gets into the database. The UI lets you impose constraints on the user input into various fields of your form, by offering dialog windows with many options.

All commendably straightforward.

The second section of the text is mostly for programmers, who have already written code for Office.

Book Description

Phil Gordon plays poker with the best players in the world. He has won -- and lost -- in tournaments and cash games around the globe, all the while studying the game and learning from every hand dealt. As the resident expert and cohost of Celebrity Poker Showdown, Phil has quickly become one of the most sought-after teachers of No Limit Texas Hold'em. It's a tough game. But anyone can become a winning player with the right amount of courage, patience, aggression, observation, and, perhaps most important, dedication to becoming a better player.

After fifteen years of keeping notes on the things he's learned, the greats he's played with, and the celebrities he's taught, Phil Gordon has poured every single thing he knows about No Limit Texas Hold'em into this little green book. Taking a page from Harvey Penick's bestselling book of golf wisdom, Phil plays the role of both teacher and student, offering up insightful tips on how to think about poker and how to develop a singular style of play. Through philosophy, psychology, strategy, math, and the knowledge gleaned from playing poker with everyone from T. J. Cloutier and Phil Ivey to Hank Azaria and Ben Affleck, Phil breaks down the game into enlightening instructional tidbits and illustrative anecdotes that inspire the kind of persistence and motivation necessary to improve your game.

A book to rank with Doyle Brunson's Super System and David Sklansky's The Theory of Poker, Phil Gordon's Little Green Book deserves a spot on the shelf of every serious student of the game.

5 out of 5 stars Great Little Green.......2007-09-22

I have read quite a few books by the pros. However, this one is clearly the best so far. He speaks in terms that are understandable and he explains things well. I recommend this book for anyone in their early years of competing.

5 out of 5 stars Gives you good advice.......2007-09-01

When you start playing Texas Hold'em, this is a good book to read now and then.

5 out of 5 stars If you never read a poker book, this is a great first read........2007-08-29

If you've never read a poker book, this is one of the first books you should read. It will tell the novice how to start thinking about the game. If you ar fairly new to the game, then you will find this book a wealth of information. An intermediate player will find alot in this book as well, although it may never be 'cool' to quote Phil Gordon. Unfortunately, I think Mr. Gordon explains Pot Odds poorly. SUMMARY: For the player who wants to improve but doesn't want to get too deep into poker theory, there is no beating Phil Gordon. The Audiobook version is great for long car rides or subway commutes.

5 out of 5 stars Thumbs up for Gordon's green book.......2007-07-04

Found this to be very educational and easy to follow. Actually listened to it typically driving out to a poker tournament and was able to apply some of the topics immediately.

4 out of 5 stars good mix of theory and play.......2007-05-23

If you like the scenario type reading this book will help you. I get bored with just calculations so knowing the though process was helpful.

4 out of 5 stars Not too bad for a technical book........2007-08-22

I am about 1/3 through the Professional SQL Server 2005 Integration Services book. It was worth buying. I don't view this as a Step-By-Step type book. You need a little SSIS background first. A background in DTS will not necessarily prepare you for SSIS.
Watching the videos on the LearnIntegrationServices, com web site FIRST is definitely the way to go. The major negative that I have thus far is that it is somewhat difficult to follow when trying to complete the example packages. More step1, step2, etc. would have been helpful. However, I have been able to make all of the examples work. Sometimes that is a major accomplishment with these type books. Also, be sure to view the corrections errata on the Wrox website.

3 out of 5 stars The Best SSIS Book I Have Read.......2007-07-04

I got this book in hopes that it would unlock the mysteries of SSIS. After reading the hype about what a great improvement SSIS is over Data Transformation Services (DTS), I really wasn't getting much more done with SSIS. Sure, the GUI is better, but it is quirky, a real 1.0 effort by a company famous for not getting it right until at the least 3.1 version. There are lots of bells and whistles, but documentation is really sparse.

What I found was that there really is not a great deal more in this book than in the SQL Server Books On Line documentation, particularly after the BOL update in February 2007. In fact, this is really more about how things are supposed to work than how they actually work. I only use SSIS because I've been told to use it, but more and more of my production work is going back into stored procedures, JScript and custom C# code because it is just as difficult to use SSIS as it was to use DTS. Really, do we still need VB Scipt as the only scripting language? Why don't basic text exiting commands work in some of the text boxes?

My company has bought just about every SSIS book on the market, and none are any better than this one. So that says its the best, right?

1 out of 5 stars Pick another book!.......2007-06-25

***NOTE TO WROX*** Before you release a tutorial, have someone other than the authors (or their friends) try each and every lesson!

This has to be one of the WORST tutorial/step-by-step books ever written.

I'm a seasoned DBA that has worked on every version of MS-SQL ever released. Starting with 4.9.2. I've also worked on Sybase, Oracle, Postgress and MySQL. Add to this several years of VB/C experience and time spent as a corporate trainer, and you can guess my technical aptitude. My experience with DTS/ETL includes hundreds (if not thousands) of packages on 7.0 & 2000. This book was purchased as a means of ramping up for a new consulting gig on SSIS. It was a complete waste of money.

The "tutorials" are disorganized, confusing, and the instructions don't match the examples. Even more annoying are the sections that appear to be lessons that aren't. You won't realize this until you start inputting the example and then get to a new paragraph that tells you this subject will be covered in another chapter. Even worse are the real examples whose instructions refer you back to a step that was left out or edited out of the book. This begins in chapter two when you are told to create a new "project" and then later told to add another project to the "solution", but, there was never any mention on how to start a "solution". This sets the tone for the rest of the book. You'll learn early on to read the entire chapter, then go back to the beginning and "try" the examples. Don't even get me started on the explanations being on one page, while the diagrams for the explanation are on the back of that page. Read a few sentences; turn the page to see the diagram; turn back to read some more; turn back to see the diagram (lather, rinse, repeat...)

It normally takes me only a few hours to breeze through five or six chapters of a technical tutorial. After TWO DAYS (a full Saturday and Sunday) of frustration that got me as far as half way through the fourth chapter, I discarded the book, drove to a local bookstore and bought something else off the self.

Rule #1 for tutorial books: The instructions must be COMPLETE.
Rule #2: The instructions must be in the order necessary to complete the lesson, (ie. 1-2-3-4, not, 1-4-3-5, oops...did we forget or edit out a step?)

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book........2007-06-08

This book does a very good job in explaining the features of BIDS in SQL 2005. Easy to read and understand, includes step by step instructions

2 out of 5 stars Wouldn't miss this book if I lost it.......2007-06-02

Probably the people that gave this book a good review are the same people onthe covor - there are 10 people on the cover, count 'em ten. How can 10 people write a cohesive book?

Anyway, I got this book when I wasa beginner in SSIS, and now have a lot of experience with SSIS. Hardly ever have I found this book helpful. The instructions and examples are thin, and never seem to cover what I'm looking for. Only found a couple of topics like logging, or event handling with a little good info to get me started.

If I threw this book away I wouldn't miss it
