Book Description
When schoolgirls begin to disappear on the West African coast, "troubleshooter" Bruce Medway tries to remain detached. Meanwhile, he reluctantly acquires a new job from former nemesis and mafia capo Franconelli. Franconelli gives Bruce forty-eight hours to find a French trader, Mariner, whom not even the mafia has been able to track. Yet as Bruce sets out on his assignment, he is unable to remain disconnected from the mysterious schoolgirl disappearances, and finds that girls, gold, and greed are all interconnected; corruption abounds everywhere. There are no safe havens for Bruce in this situation, and he must devise a scam that risks everything in order to stay alive.
A brilliant follow-up to Blood is Dirt, and the fourth novel in the Bruce Medway series, A Darkening Stain takes Bruce Medway into the darkest territory of West Africa yet.

Book Description
Savannah Grant once had the reputation for being the wild sister-but no one, not even her twin, knew just how wild Savannah had once been. Now that past has come back to haunt her. Someone is murdering humans in Ripple Creek, and the murders are eerily similar to those she'd witnessed nearly ten years ago. Worse still, the man sent in to help with the investigation is the one man Savannah had hoped never to see again. The man who had taken her trust and her heart and smashed them both. Cade Jones is in Ripple Creek to catch the killer who'd escaped his noose ten years ago. What he doesn't expect to find is the woman who had very nearly caused his death. A woman who knew far more than she'd ever let on. A woman who'd slithered from his grasp as easily as the killer. This time, Cade has every intention of discovering what she knows-and every intention of holding her to the promises she'd made long ago. As the murders continue, it becomes evident that the killer isn't murdering at random, that it's all part of a larger plan-revenge. In order to survive, Savannah finds herself having to trust the one man she'd sworn never to trust again. But can Cade unravel the clues left from the past and the present in time to save them both, or will a killer's need for revenge snatch away their hopes of a future yet again?

beneath a darkening moon.......2007-09-25
an amazing novel as only a few authors can writ, full of intrigue comedy and sex.
Harlequin romance/thriller with werewolves.......2006-08-06
I bought and read Ms. Arthur's "Full Moon Rising" and REALLY enjoyed it. So I went back into the author's works and bought and read "Beneath a Darkening Moon" and "Beneath a Rising Moon" and was very disappointed with both books. Full Moon Rising is far superior to the other two; it shows the author has made a very nice leap of progress in her writing skills in the years between them. I will happily buy and read anything new that the author writes, but won't delve further back into her works.
Good read........2005-01-21
Once upon a time, Cade was an undercover agent infiltrating a werewolf cult who had a brief passion with Savannah, one of the women kept by the cult's leader. Now, they must team up again to find out who is trying to avenge the cult leader's death. As they work together, they find that what they once had is still alive, but romance will have to take a backseat to solving the case and surviving it.
*** If you haven't read the prior book, "Beneath A Rising Moon", there is a good chance you're going to be lost, but not hopelessly so. Aside from the paranormal element, this is a basically realistic book about obsession, religion gone wrong, and the butterfly effects of one's actions. ***

Fine sequel to Beneath a Rising Moon.......2005-01-14
Savannah Grant is the head ranger on the Bitterroot werewolf reservation. There is a serial killer targeting humans on the reservation, so interspecies law enforcement is called in. Unfortunately, the lead investigator Cade Jones, is a man from her distant past. She was involved in what amounted to a cult of werewolves and half breeds connected to a serial killer very much like the present one. Cade was undercover at the time and a very young Savannah thought that she was in love with him. They are very bitter now, but Cade uses the remaining time on an old moon promise to force Savannah to play by his rules to catch a vicious killer.
While not as good as Beneath a Rising Moon(which would be very difficult), I really enjoyed this trip back to the werewolves' world. There is alot of action and very vivid characters as well as a good mystery, also I really enjoyed finding out all of Savannah's secrets, since she hinted at them so much in the previous book. Great Story!!
Book Description
Created at the dawn of time to protect humanity, the ancient warriors have been nearly forgotten, though magic lives on--in vampires, werewolves, the Celtic Sidhe, and other beings. But now one of their own has turned rogue, and the world is again in desperate need of the IMMORTALS.
A werewolf and bounty hunter, Lexi was badass to the bone. She had no problem protecting herself in the seedy underground vampire clubs of New York City. Until the Immortal she had tried to summon actually appeared. It wasn't the intricate tattoos around his well-defined muscles that intimidated her; it was the raw power she saw shimmering in his golden brown eyes, power mingled with lust. Though she longed to give in to the passion and pleasure he promised, they first had a curse to break, a brother to find, and a whole legion of vampires to prevent from joining ...THE DARKENING.

The "2" must stand for twice as bad as the first........2007-10-05
Get me to waste my $ on you once, shame on you...twice, shame on me, but you can rest assured I'm not buying the 3rd book!
This book is truly bad. There is so much action crammed into it that the author has completely lost track of any sort of realistic timeline. There are a ton of characters who appear to be a sort of afterthought and are never really fleshed-out which makes it impossible for the reader to develop any kind of affinity with them.
I've read a lot of bad books in my lifetime, but this one ranks in my top 5 worst-ever.
Same great world, better story........2007-09-01
Second in the five book Immortal series (Yes, five. Ashley is writing Tain's story too) penned by three different authors, Robin Popp makes good use of the wonderful world they've created together. While this series doesn't have the heft of some of the other popular paranormals that the other reviewers are comparing it with, it is still entertaining. Since this installment doesn't bear the burden of introducing the world and the bad guys, the author is free to focus the story on Darius and Lexi.
Darius has been virtually locked in his room for 7 centuries. After being unable to answer the Calling at the end of the last book because his goddess mother is holding his immortal powers hostage, Darius chooses possible death to fulfill his duty to protect the earth and escapes his imprisonment. Unfortunately, the method of escape doesn't fully restore his powers making him more vulnerable than your typical immortal demigod. Also, Mom not willing to loss her son gives him a parting gift, she curses him to lose his memory if he experiences physical pleasure. Imagine how much fun that's going to make "the morning after". Even so he is a great hunky hero and an admirable one with the ability to turn honorable enemies into allies. The whole deal with his tatoos is very cool and inventive.
Lexi is a werewolf-witch bounty hunter. She is capable, independant and while not immortal powerful in her own right. When Darius appears and helps her capture her latest "skip", she knows exactly what he is since she had seen a vision of him during the Calling. Darius and Lexi's relationship is not smooth. Lexi is immediately attracted to the tall, gorgeous tatooed warrior, but tries to write off the attraction to full moon hormones. Darius senses her attraction and is perfectly willing to scratch their itch, but Lexi balks at an encounter with a perfect stranger and Darius goes off to end his dry spell with someone else.
Since Lexi's twin died to save her husband's, Lexi has been determined to never leave herself that vulnerable. She has been using the excuse of her moon lust to focus on the physical and has a comfortable relationship with vampire leader Ricco to slake her desire while keeping her heart safe. With Darius it's not so easy. Lexi is drawn to Darius even outside of her moon lust. But his curse and dedication to saving the world and his brother, leads him to hurt her as she has never allowed herself to be hurt by a man before. There are misunderstandings, and they spend quite bit of time on their separate missions. However coincidence and fate keeps drawing them back together, forcing them to continually cross paths as he tries to find his brother and Lexi tries to keep her friend out of trouble. When Darius and Lexi finally come together, although it is precipated by a drug that intensifies Lexi's lust to a deadly level, it is truly out of love and sacrifice on Darius' part. And while steamy, it is also is touching because they know that Darius' curse will likely steal everything from them.
Another thing I liked about this book is that we get to see a bit more of Tain, who along with the demon are the only characters that appear both in this book and the first book, The Calling (Immortals, Book 1). Although Tain is both the victim and the enemy, he is not totally powerless. He submits to the demon for the torture that has broken his mind, but then takes over when indulging in the healing sex that restores his body. Tain is also the one to plot and use his brothers, willing to destroy them and the ones they love to seek the destruction of the world that will allow him to die and be freed from his centuries of torment.
The only real weakness in this book and in this series is that the bad guys' evil plot doesn't seem to be building. I was hoping that the series would have some story arc that flowed through all the books, and built to a climatic finish in the last book. So far it seems to be just little stand alone vignettes. Still I am looking forward to the next installment and reading The Awakening (Immortals, Book 3) by a new to me author, Joy Nash.
immortals: the darking.......2007-08-07
the sagas of the immortals dealing with their wayward brother and his demon lover is inthralling, and on there way to save the world they find love. i wasnt able to put the last two books down til i was done with the book, i cant waite to pay day to purchase the next one
This book was written in a rush.......2007-07-23
That is the only explanation for a story that was all over the place. Lexi is a werewolf witch; Darius is an immortal that has been called by the witches' coven from the first book. I enjoyed Immortals: The Calling, but this book, I just don't get it. The love story was pitiful. First they want to have sex but don't so he goes and has sex with a succubus, then he loses his memory. Lexi has to have sex nearing the full moon. Meanwhile, the bad demons are on the rise and oh my gosh, what happened? The first book was interesting, exciting, had great action, and above all a wonderful romance. This book fell flat. I have read other books by Robin T. Popp, and enjoyed them immensely, but I think she wrote this one in a hurry. I am now hesitant to read the next in this four part series, but the only redeeming virtue is that it will be written by another author, so hopefully, the next book will be better. If it were possible, I would say skip this one, but unfortunately, this is the second in a four part series, so if you want to keep up, you will have to read it. Sorry.
Immortals.......2007-07-12
Great book... took up where the other left off. the ending was great. the two main people were so sexy and wanting sex so bad, that you almost were ready to take them there. Can't wait till the next one comes out to see what happens to the brothers...
Book Description
Soon after taking part in the dramatic capture of Martinique in the Caribbean, Vice-Admiral Sir Richard Bolitho is next despatched to the African coast to gather a flotilla and stop French attacks on British trade routes. But Bolitho must contend with more than Britain's old enemy—he must also face the hatred of his flag captain and betrayal by a man he once counted on as his friend.
Customer Reviews:
Solid entry, but riddled with historical inaccuracies.......2005-10-17
Unlike some reviewers, the more we get of personality development in the Bolitho series, the more I have come to enjoy it. There's definitely less sea action, but I don't miss it when I'm dished up such interesting characters. The only problem I had reading this entry in the series was the numerous egregious historical inaccuracies. I've been annoyed by many small errors in previous Bolitho books, but this time I was stunned by Kent's disregard for well-known facts, particularly with respect to the Peninsular War which is going on simultaneous to the action of this book. I suppose many readers neither know nor care about such things, but I am always dismayed at being jolted out of an otherwise coherent and fascinating fictional world by simply stupid errors like we see here. (These errors carry over into subsequent books of the series.)
Adds depth and dimension to an already superb series.......1999-02-25
The Richard Bolitho series now covers something like 23 books and (by my count) about forty years of story time. One of its chief attractions, especially in the last six or eight books, has been watching the characters grow and change and watching their lives criss-cross and intersect. The later books have (properly, since Kent is scrupulous about playing fair with Bolitho's age and medical problems) been less about swashbucking and more about relationships.
All those trends are at work in this installment. If your principal interest to Kent's novels is the sea battles and swordfights, you may want to give up on the series--or at least this piece of it. If you've stuck with the series because because you care about Bolitho and the other continuing characters, though . . . settle back and enjoy a deftly written story about love, loss, and second chances (punctuated by some 1st-rate sea battles).
Kent's Books are always good.......1999-01-25
It' some time ago since I've last read one of his books, but I'm always happy do catch one. I'm only sad that it takes sooo long till there is an other Bolitho on the market. There is only one better in writing narval fiction who is C. S. Forester with Horatio Hornblower.
A well thought out, and well written book........1998-09-12
This book is a continuation of the Bolitho series. It starts after " Beyond the Reef". Bolitho is headed back to Cape town. The theme is more thoughtful then some of Kent's earlier works. It lacks some of the mindless action some readers might crave. It does have excellent ship to ship action as well good plot development, and the the usual excellent cast. I liked this book.
This was not the Bolitho I remember from earlier books........1998-04-19
Has something happened to Douglas Reeman, that the Bolitho books after 'Success to the Brave' are unidentifiable as true Alexander Kent? (Reeman) This book and others are truly terrible writing. The main characters are radically different and perverse in attributes. This was not a Reeman work, assuredly. A shame and travesty!

Book Description
Hemochromatosis not too many people know the definition of the word or realize just how deadly a disease it can be. Marie Warder found out first hand when her husband became sick. For six years, she watched as his eyesight deteriorated, his personality changed and he grew sicker. Finally, a doctor diagnosed the problem: an overload of iron in his body. Luckily, it was caught in time and he was bled a gallon of blood per month to save his life. In The Bronze Killer, Warder provides much needed information about this common enemy, from recognizing its symptoms to stressing the importance of early detection and treatment. Recommended by physicians in many hospitals and also includes a layman's reference on the disease, Iron

The Bronze Killer review.......2007-03-20
This was a very interesting book. The author did a good job of explaining the frustrating process of seeking a diagnosis and treatment of a rare condition. She includes a lot of useful information for those
who may have inherited this condition.
What an awesome testimony of faith!.......2006-06-01
This is a great resource for the newly-diagnosed, and a well-written, gripping bio - but it is far more than that. ... What an moving reliance on the power of prayer! What an awesome testimony of faith! I loved the anecdote about the 'pennies from Heaven'!
If only the Powers-that-be would read this!.......2006-02-15
A BIG 'thank you' to this author!I am confident that there are few people who will not profit by the information contained in this book. Especially in view of the so-called 'Pandemic which is looming over all of us, I feel that it is imperative for everyone to know how dangerous it is to be 'overloaded' with iron - which, to bacteria, fungi and viruses, is like 'fertilizer' to plants! This riveting, well-written, 'first-person' account alerts readers to the perils of iron accumulation in the body.
QUOTED (with permission).......2005-11-21
More than just about a disease!.
On another website, I saw this book described as the 'definitive book about Hemochromatosis', and I agree. However,a prominent researcher has written that it is the story of a remarkable man and an extraordinary relationship. He was right. - It's more than a layman's reference to genetic disorder. It's a consummate love story. Love at first sight...the enduring adoration of a teenager for a young man; which would lead her, in time, along an thorny path and against all odds, to a fight against ignorance of a disease. That fight has culminated in the saving of lives around the world.

Customer Reviews:
Super Reader.......2007-08-06
This is a Buffy Elseworlds. Everything is the same right up until the point where Willow battles Giles in the Magic Box. Here, she brings down the roof on Buffy and Giles and leaves.
This leaves Giles paralysed in hospital, and Willow off to set up housekeeping with a couple of pets, one vampire, one werewolf. Add a coven, and a power sucking cat demon thing, and Buffy and friends have a lot of problems.
oh how I wanted to like it.......2006-11-30
I wanted to like this series. Oh, how I wanted to like this series. I'm a HUGE Buffy fan and an even bigger Willow fan, so when I saw these books I bought all three immediately.
Book one is probably the most tolerable of the books. As far as I can tell, Navarro's strength is in her descripive skills. I have both of her Willow Files books, and they keep me riveted even though I know how they end. The beggining of Wicked Willow I (description of an episode of Buffy) was good. It goes downhill from there, however.
If you were to read this book on its own (which I wouldn't reccomend, as its a cliffhanger) it might not be so bad. Sloppy editting aside, the permise is sort of interesting. But the three books are virtually the same plot over and over, regurgiated at you a little different.
And the worst part? she doesn't even write her own ending. I won't say more than that, for risk of spoilers, but safe to say anyone who knows Buffy at all doesn't have anyhting to spoil.
Great idea, could have been good.... but it wasn't.
Willow comes into her own.......2005-10-07
I'm glad there was a series of books written abou Willow. She's been in Buffy's shadow long enough. Even though they were best of friends and Willow never begrudged Buffy the limelight, everyone deserves a little attention, even though it's for the bad things we do. It's Human Nature! I haven't finished part 3 yet and hopefully it will end on a happy note! I love happy endings! But it's just "what if" anyway. Excellent read!
What if..........2005-07-22
I really like this trilogy, because I know that there wasn't much time -t.v episode wise- to really take the episodes leading up to the finale where this book goes. I especially enjoyed the killing off of two annoying characters that aren't on the show, (1 of who was a character) and making this person a personal dummy-pet to Willow. Go Willow!
(If you like this type of change of reality, I would recommend The Lost Slayer series - a view into the future of "what if Giles went bad?")
Worst Buffy serious ever.......2005-01-27
This is BAD rewrite of the Season 6 finale when Willow went bad.
She sets up a place of her own and hangs out with other witches (who arent really witches) and does nothing. She is supose to be all evil but it's not happening. Tara's ghost starts hanging out with her too, and then Willow send all kinds of stupid monsters to attack the Scoobies.
Then blah blah blah it drags on and then finally a few months later she is rescued by Xander just like in the Tv series. The whole part in between is a huge waste of money and time.
Don't buy this book, at least not new. Wait for the newer ones to come out, they might be better.

Series for adults now rewritten for teens.......2004-12-26
I have always enjoyed the adult series of Left Behind books. The kids books are just as good. The kids interact with the characters from the adult series, experience the same events, etc. However, since the main characters are teens, these books can appeal to younger readers. So far, the stories haven't had the ups and downs that the adult series has had. The adult series has books that are a lot more boring than others. The kids series seems to be good in every book. These are not for really young kids, but would be appropriate for young teens. I enjoy them and I am an adult.
I JUST CAN'T STOP READING!.......2002-03-27
I'm actually reading book #11, second time around, and just ordered 19, 20, 21, & 22. By the time I get 19 & 20 I'll be finished with 18 again. Incidentally, I also just ordered the adult book #10 having read all the predecessors. I just can't stop reading these books once I start. Whoever said the "kids" books were up to age 12 forgot that they speak truth to all ages. I'm 62 years old with graduate degrees and they sure do hit my hot button. I hope they just keep coming! I love them.
Left Behind #18- Great Book.......2002-01-17
The book Left Behind #18- "Darkening Skies" is a great book. It's about four kids who were originally Left Behind of the rapture of god's people. This is book number eighteen out of thirty-six. The 17th book was a thriller as they were on their trip to Israel. The 17th ends in suspense as nobody can find Tyson Ben-Judah. The 18th book tells about Judd in Israel and where Melissa can be found. In Israel, Judd finds a new friend, Samuel. Judd is betrayed by Samuel and runs into the Global Community. Will he escape the G.C., why did Samuel betray Judd, and two more of the Young Trib Force's friends die. Who? Find out by reading "Darkening Skies," the 18th Left Behind book.

Book Description
IT BEGINS WITH A BLACKOUT.
All electrical power ceases to run. Even the sun seems a little dimmer. Cities come to a halt. And then their inhabitants vanish.
But a small, clandestine group of warriors has been preparing for this moment for centuries. Their hopes rest on two strangers, a thousand miles apart, who hold the keys to the world’s salvation: Dylan Barnes, a martial arts instructor who teaches his students the art of inner balance but is plagued by shadows only he can see and voices muttering in a language only he can hear; and Lucy Devereau, a private investigator who earns a living by prying into the lives of others but is haunted by her own birthright–and the mystery of her true parents.
The world around them–our world–is slipping into darkness. Now, as fate and blood push them to the front lines of an extraordinary battle, Lucy and Dylan must stare into the face of something ancient, something impossible, something that has come to blot out the light–forever.

Left Behind With Some Real Creepy Monsters.......2005-08-26
With a name this corny, it has to be good! Right? Nah, not really. The book is an interesting psuedo-religious twist of the rapture theme (mass disappearances) with elements of secret society paranoia. The book starts out developing the two main characters that unknowingly are destined to save the world. There are some interesting religious themes developed here, but this is far from a christian book. While the characters are interesting and well thought out, the action scenes get bogged down and confusing and the thrills and spills become a bit mundane. It's worthwhile reading, and at times an interesting story, but don't expect great literature here.
Entertaining.......2005-06-14
This is a bit of a hybrid when it comes to a horror novel. It reads more like a tom clancy with supernatural players in it not to mention some Lovecraft. The story centers around a man named Dylan that is plagued by awful dreams that he can't remember and he wake's up in a different part of his house not knowing how he got there. The other central character is Lucy who feel's as if she is missing something but doesn't know what.
The villains in this book are none other than lovecrafts old ones and the cult that worship them. Opposed is a group called rex deus who try to thwart them at every turn. Both groups want to get there hands on lucy and dylan. The old ones are trying to break through and only lucy and dylan can put a stop to them.
This novel is good but lacks genuine scares and relies more on action. Not that that is a bad thing but when i read a horror novel i want to be a little creeped out so that is my main complaint. Also the ending was abit of a let down when you consider where your being led throughout the book. I reccommend to most out there and i look forward to reading some more by this author.
A real page turner!.......2005-06-02
The author's influences of the likes of Heinlein, Tolkein, Koontz and even a little Alfred Hitchcock are evident in this riveting tale. This is his best work to date and shows promise for grand tales to come.
I've read worse.......2005-05-11
I won't go into specifics here but I have to say I was particularly disappointed. McGrew is a talented writer and the Rapture take he utilized was very original but he just couldn't seem to get to the point. It takes half of the book for anything of real interest to start to happen, three quarters to get exciting, and then...nuthin', he didn't even do a good job developing the characters. All in all this would have made a gripping, intense short story or novella, McGrew ruined it by using boring plot points as filler.
A chiller that uses elements of "The Ashes of Gods" .......2005-03-10
This is excellent fiction that attests to (perhaps) what would happen if the "Old Ones" returned to rule the earth. This book (while it does not come right out and say it) utilizes elements of serious non fiction research into the theory that there were "Fallen Angles" who mated with the Daughters of Man. Thus creating a horrific race of "Giants" who ruled the earth prior to the flood of Noah. This has been written about in many ancient text's and is included in the biblical "Book of Enoch" which book, interestingly enough, the Catholic Church tried to suppress for hundreds of years. In fact they ordered the destruction of the Book of Enoch. It was only saved because a very few far reaching, monasteries in very remote corners of the globe did not destroy their copies. According to the Book of Enoch, these Giants were destroyed or imprisoned by God for their sins against humanity. There are many scholars today who believe that this may in fact be true. Evidence of this has also been found in the "Dead Sea Scrolls" and could explain the Pyramids and other such megalithic structures throughout the world. For this reason, I feel that Chandler McGrews book "The Darkening" could be a what if? What if the Old Ones (or the "Giants") came back to claim this planet? What would happen to humanity? A Chilling read... This book is written well for a fiction. The characterizations are good and the story moves along. A very good read in my opinion. If you like Dean Koonz and the way he makes you feel his character's while you are reading one of his books; you will slip right into this story. This author is someone to watch!
