It starts with a tutorial on C# and the .NET framework. This introduction assumes no prior knowledge of .NET, but it does move rapidly, on the assumption that the reader is an experienced programmer. Once this background knowledge is established, the book starts to sweep through the vast .NET class library, showing how you can use C# to solve various tasks. This comprehensive coverage is one of the key selling points of previous versions of the book, and is maintained and enhanced with this new edition by adding new chapters on Generics, ObjectSpaces, Yukon, and Indigo. Some reference material is included either as appendices or is available to download from the Wrox website.
After the introduction and initial chapter, the book is divided into a number of sections that cover both the C# language and its application in a variety of areas. Coverage includes:
from a database. In the real world that's what I needed to be able to make a real app in VB6. (Of course I was using collections for VB6.) And all those examples about cows and animals are cute but once again I don't see why they don't use something more realistic. Overall though it's a great addition to my collection. Unfortunately most computer books are useless in just a few months especially since .NET 3.0 is here.
A good book after an introductory book.......2007-06-13
In order to learn C# I started with Visual C# Step by Step by John Sharp, which was a good place to start.
The Wrox book was a very good next step.
It is clear this is not a complete reference, but it will get you much closer to becoming a well rounded C# programmer. Personally, I liked the writing style. It seems that an enormous effort has gone into producing it.
It's useful for learning about aspects I had very little experience with, so yes it is handholding, but I'm grateful.
For a reference work you might use the C# in a Nutshell book.

MS SQL Pro / Developer must have hand book.......2006-11-28
This book has many examples of how to use the scripts to get your job done! It gives you an overview of the New SQL Server 2005. The book covers new features of SQL Server 2005 and gives very good examples to explain "How and why" to use different scripts. It is an eye opener and it points you to the right direction.

Outstanding Reference for Database Developers Moving to SQL 2005 From 2000.......2006-08-29
We have been heavy users (both as developers and administrators) of SQL Server 2000 since it came out in 2000. We were anxious to upgrade to SQL Server 2005 and did so in early 2006. For the first couple of months we largely utilized SQL 2005 in the same way that we had done with SQL 2000 (with the exception of using the new Management Studio) and did not really exploit the new features of SQL 2005. This book definitely opened our eyes to many of the new features of the SQL 2005 database and we are using many of those features in our current development efforts.
The Pro SQL Server 2005 book spent a significant amount of pages on process changes between 2000 and 2005 and then dove into the significant functional differences between the databases. As users of the Reporting Services features rolled out mid-stream in SQL 2000 we were very interested to read the coverage dedicated to it in this book. This book cannot serve as a comprehensive reference to all of the new features in SQL 2005 (there are entire volumes dedicated to each topic) and the authors did not attempt to. However, I felt like they did as good a job as was possible in such a concise manner.
I particularly enjoyed the section on the CLR embedded into SQL 2005 but wished that it could have been a bit longer. Overall, this is an excellent title and I encourage all database developers and administrators moving from SQL 2000 to check it out.
Not what I was looking for.......2006-03-09
If you're looking for a "what's new in SQL Server 2005" this book covers that. If you're looking for a reference book on the product, that goes into how to configure or upgrade from an earlier version--Keep Looking.
The book explains new features in some detail. But, I want to know how to place the databases in a specific directory, how to set up replication--not mirroring; and how to install the software remotely. The book does not discuss any of that.
Excellent SQL 2005 Coverage.......2006-02-27
This book does an awesome job of hitting everything that is new in SQL 2005. There is a lot to cover so it doesn't go into deep depth, but it does give you a good overview and points you in the right direction to find more information out on a particular topic by making sure you have a great introduction.
always been a fan.......2006-02-23
I've always been a fan of these series of technical books. The information in them is always presented with enough detail and with a technical person in mind. Great reference book

Mastering Public Speaking: Study Guide for Grice and Skinner
ASIN: 0205467350 |
Book Description
Offering an ideal balance of theory and skills, this book provides a solid grounding in the how's and why's of public speaking, placing particular emphasis on critiquing, ethics, and critical thinking.
Written in a casual, lively style and clearly organized, this edition of Mastering Public Speaking builds on its previous success. The fourth edition retains its popular and distinctive emphasis on the ethical contract between speaker and listener and on the value of critiquing speeches to improve your own skills. Learn how to think critically as you choose speech topics, conduct research, organize content, select language, manage nervousness, and deliver speeches.
For anyone interested in Public Speaking.
Customer Reviews:
Mediocre text.......2007-05-09
I had to use this book for a public speaking class and found it to be quite tiring to get through. Its few good ideas and suggestions are easily lost within its high-school approach and broad conjectures about communication.
Very nice.......2006-02-23
The book is very informative. It has cheatsheets printed on the back cover. There is also information to help you with your first speech because the author realized that speeches would be prepared before the student could finish reading the book.
Disappointing.......2004-08-04
I'd considered buying this book from Amazon, and decided to first examine a copy at the Boston Public Library. I was unimpressed. The tone seems aimed at middle-school students, and the text is littered with patronizing "Dick & Jane" anecdotes. A quick glance through the table of contents suggests that Grice and Skinner address nearly every conceivable aspect of public speaking -- but a closer examination reveals a complete lack of depth. It seems as if they simply brainstormed ways to add pages without actually investigating their subject.
The most derelict example I found was the second chapter, devoted entirely to a discussion of ethics. This chapter includes a section on plagiarism, where Grice and Skinner define plagiarism and warn students that getting caught may result in failing a class or being expelled from school -- hardly the sort of information you'd expect from a college-level textbook. Meanwhile, Grice and Skinner lazily sidestep the most challenging issue -- the employment of speechwriters -- by confining its mention to a brief, rhetorical question among the chapter-end exercises. In other words: "Here's a complex issue. We've exhausted our space with rudimentary ones, but we encourage you to do some real work on your own!"
There are some informative, useful books on public speaking. Richard Dowis and James Humes have each written excellent books on crafting and delivering a speech. Virgil Anderson and Ann Utterback have written valuable books on training your voice, and Livingston Taylor and Keith Johnstone have written classics on stage performance. My suggestion is to skip this book. I was thoroughly disappointed with its lack of ambition, and I'd hate to be stuck with a professor who found it respectable.

Excellent Cookbook.......2007-07-09
This item was received very quickly, and we love the recipes in this. Excellent book!
Hot meals for hot wheels.......2007-07-01
"Shrimp and vegetable risotto" is not your typical tailgate fare, but this isn't your typical cookbook, either! Angela Skinner, wife of driver Mike Skinner, has collected recipes from NASCAR drivers, their spouses and crews that far exceeds hot dogs and hamburgers. For example, driver Mark Martin shares his "Salmon in Merlot" and Benny Parsons adds his "Favorite Crab Cakes."
The food is perfect for any family gathering (whether you're at a track or not.)
Start Those Kitchens!.......2007-04-10
These easy-to-follow recipes are perfect for gatherings of any kind. Get a glimpse at another side of NASCAR drivers you don't usually see.
Great Book.......2007-04-04

great, easy recipes & amazing photos.......2007-03-31
the recipes are very tasty and easy to make and the photos show a side of NASCAR not always accessible to the fans. i recommend all my friends to get it

Acceptable, but overall disappointing.......2007-01-10
This book does not live up to expectations. Found that many of the photos are poor quality/amateur in nature. Some cellars displayed are spectacular but many are ho-hum. Nor does the book have any substantive material. Simple text descriptions accompany photos but only so much can be learned by looking at pictures. I agree with other reviews that this is a good coffee table or "idea" book. However, I expected more interesting photos with meaningful descriptions of the space, conditions, materials, lighting, etc... If you have to have it buy it used.
A much better book is: The Home Wine Cellar: A Complete Guide To Design And Construction by Perry Sims. While it doesn't have as many photos, those it does have are more inspiring and accompanied by good information on cellar design and construction.
Cellar space.......2006-08-25
Its a good coffee table book, Some great photos with good ideas, and some general information for those looking to build a cellar. I'm glad to have it.
This is a great coffee table book.......2005-08-05
Beautiful pictures, it gives you plenty of things to talk about and think about if you are planning a wine cellar. This book does not give a lot of details on why things are done the way they are - it is more of an idea book. I've read a few other books on the details of wine cellar construction, so I already knew why things are done as they are in many of the pictures.
This book gave me tons of ideas and helped me spark my creative juices.
