Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

5 out of 5 stars Still very fine after all these years.......2006-12-22

I just reread this earlier Lindsey Davis/Marcus Didious Falco mystery and it was still completely enjoyable the second time around. Interesting plot, wonderful historic detail and terrific character development and interaction. What's not to like. Lindsey Davis is my girl! I look forward to her annual Falco offering and happily recommend this series to anyone who hasn't heard of it (how would that be possible?)

5 out of 5 stars They Just Get Better.......2006-09-25

This is the fourth novel in the mystery series featuring Marcus Didius Falco, an informer and sleuth in Rome at the time of Vespasian. A series of books that have become hugely popular, so much so that the author is now at the forefront of historical mystery writers. It was probably a stroke of genius on her part to have novels that are extremely well researched and contain all the elements that would be and should be found in Rome in AD70, but to have a lead character who has the vocabulary of a present day New York cop. In this the fourth novel Falco and Helena Justina seem like old friends.

In this novel Falco has to leave his beloved Rome and travel to Germania, a land that is haunted by the ghosts of past massacres. Dark and dismal, cold and wet and huge parts of it covered by virtually impenetrable forests, where the bloodthirsty tribesmen feel at home and are more than ready to inflict another defeat on the Roman army, such as they did not many decades past.

Falco has the enter the most dangerous country known to Roman world, with a few trainee recruits, their Centurion and their Commander. Not just any old Roman officer but Camillus Justinus, the brother of Helena, who will cut Falco into little pieces and feed him to the fishes in the Tiber if he even thinks about returning without her favourite sibling.

4 out of 5 stars Falco battles the frontier, native/Roman leaders, and Helena.......2003-07-31

Falco hits the road again in this fourth novel, this time for Germania. Unlike the first two novels, where the action split between Rome and rural locales, almost all of "The Iron Hand of Mars" is set in Gaul and Germany. The grit of the frontier backdrops matches Falco's sour attitude toward the journey and his Imperial mission. His girlfriend Helena Justina fortunately joins the more urban portions of the trip, as their character interactions in Davis's subtle prose are the highlight of these novels.

The plot consists of a long list of Imperial requests relating to recent and past Roman military troubles on the frontier. Davis skillfully explains the history of first century Roman clashes with the Germanic tribes and relates it to the plot without bogging down in dry exposition. Falco's interaction with various members of the frontier legions shows Davis's thorough command of Roman military details. Falco's trek through feral Germania has the same wild adventure tainted with ghosts of legionary history feel as the journey beyond Hadrian's Wall in Sutcliffe's "Eagle of the Ninth." However, random encounters with several of the final people on Falco's task list leave the ending feeling coincidental. Regardless, Davis skillfully develops several new characters, including a gruff centurion and Helena's tribune brother, and continues to build the relationship between Falco and Helena.

4 out of 5 stars More History than Mystery.......2002-10-08

This book is definitely more of a history book than a mystery book, but that doesn't mean it's not enjoyable. The wild ride through old Germany and the adventures that befall Falco's ragtag bunch of recruits is fun. The more I read of Falco, the more likeable he becomes. And the characters we are introduced to in each book make quite an impresion. In this case an effeminate barber called Xanthus, and the lovely Helena's younger brother. Her characters seem alive, and it makes for a fun quick read. If you are interested in getting an idea of what Germany was like in 71AD, you could do worse than read this book. Looking forward to the next installment.

5 out of 5 stars My Idea of a Great Historical Novel.......2002-08-17

THE IRON HAND OF MARS is less of a genre mystery than most of the others, but this wild romp through Germania is, I think, Davis' best Falco book so far, with the possible exception of the first one, SILVER PIGS. Her amazing knowledge of the period, as if she'd time-traveled, is skilfully interwoven with the personal relationships among Falco, Helena, and Helena's extremely likeable brother. She presents the Roman army's military ambitions (and snafus) with enough zest to awaken a love of history in all but the most jaded, and her portraits of Cerialis and the other high-rankers, both offstage and on, had me laughing out loud.

If you haven't studied Roman history, you can do it "fictionally"--starting out around 100 BC with Colleen McCullough's Marius-Sulla-Caesar novels (so superior to McCullough's THE "CORN" BIRDS), then going to Robert Graves' three Claudius books, which take you up to Nero (brrrr!), and finishing up with Lindsey Davis. I can scarcely wait for Vesuvius to blow in 79 AD!

4 out of 5 stars Iron Hands.......2007-05-18

With war everywhere, everyone needs to stay alert. With their immense bodies and hi-tech gizmos, it will be an easy task for The Iron Hands. Their leader was once a human, but after many battles, his body was replaced with metal and he became a cyborg. And as for his brain, it is much stronger now for it is half computer. Iron Hands by Jonathan Green was a great read. With its vivid description and intense battles, all sci-fi readers will enjoy it.

This book has many different races to help intrigue the readers. One such race is the Chaos, strong magical wielders. Their enemy, Iron Hands, have very powerful hi-tech cyborgs and weaponry that can blow apart anything. Their leader has lived for centuries because of their technical advancement allowing to increase his life span by millenniums.

This book also has original names of characters races, and ranks in armies. The highest rank in the Iron Hands army is Carrion Lord of Imperium, but this rank is only achieved once you have killed the previous one. The throne he sits on is called the Golden Throne of Worlds. Though he is only one, many respect him and trust him with their lives. Adeptus Astartes is the class of many races. Each class has its own characteristics and traits that separate them from another. Iron Hands, for example, is the only race to solely focus on technology and fire-power using projectiles such as guns and rockets. Chaos on the other hand, has monsters that attack first and clear the way for them to advance.

Iron Hands imagery was that of a masterpiece. Everything it described made the reader feel like he was looking at it right in front of him. It described the army of Iron Hands as immense soldiers suited in armor made of the toughest metal, only penetrable by the strongest of weapons such as blades as magic. Their guns were the size of a human body, and they wore helmets of gold and silver to keep them strong. Their ruby red eye holes so they may see had sensors in it so they may find out more information about their enemies. And they had a great insignia on the chest plate to proudly show who they were.

This book would be great for all readers who enjoy wars and sci-fi/ fantasy reads. Though many would find it as a fantasy book, it is also a sci-fi due to its advanced technology and armor/weapons, as well as the cyborg armies. It is a little confusing, but once you get started around the fifth chapter, you get engrossed in it. Therefore, grabbing the reader and making him read the entire book and then the rest of the series with its story and characters. Once you read this story, you will continually want more, and the thing is, there are so many books in the entire series, that all of the books intertwine with each other and you have to pay close attention to understand it all.

4 out of 5 stars First Read.......2007-04-16

This book was my first exposure to Warhammer 40k. I didnt know it existed till I picked this book up from a pile in Iraq. I thougth it was great, kinda shallow and predictable, but what can you expect from books based off of a game? Anyhoo, I thought it was very entertaining.

2 out of 5 stars Boring and Tedious.......2005-07-14

In what could have been a good book, nothing really happens. While Green has a good grasp on the Warhammer Universe, it means little when it comes to the plot of this book.

I'd say over half this book is just describing how things look, and that is not an exageration. Green will describe down to a freckle what a character looks like (which he does do a good job at), but when it comes to an action scene, he will mention "he did this" and "he did that" with no enthusiasm or liveliness. The majority of acion scenes consisted "Gdolkin fired his bolt pistol" or "Gdolkin brought down his axe." Nothing original and very repetivtive.

As mentioned by others, the characters are very bland, boring and 2 dimensional. You can't relate to any character, main or supporting, in any way.

I really wouldn't recommend this book, as 1/4 of the way through it, almost nothing had happened, and what did happen was inconsequential to the rest of the book. However, if you don't care about action and only details, then you may want to give this book a try.

2 out of 5 stars A kick in the face to Iron Hands players.......2005-04-17

Ohhh where can I start on this review.

Lets start with the main character, Iron Father Gdolkin. He seemed to be a pretty characterful guy when he was young, but when he became a Space Marine apparently they decided to remove part of his brain and replace it with part of an Ork's brain. Gdolkin does two things in this book. If you think this sounds rather odd then I agree with you, but unfortunately its true. Gdolkin is extrememly shallow and one of the biggest train-wrecks of a main character I've ever read. First of all, he is very gullible. Its not fun to watch our hero follow a Tech Magos around because "he is on an important mission" and never find out what that important mission is, EVER (as in the reader never knows what the whole point of the book was). You wouldn't believe how gullible this guy is. Next, he gets angry at everything. With how often he gets angry it doesn't make sense that he doesn't shoot the Tech Magos who is dragging him around everywhere halfway into the book. And finally, he is stupid. You wouldn't believe the idiocy of this guy at some points in the book. I would spoil them because after reading this review you shouldn't even consider reading this book, but just incase you are going to anyways, I won't.

The ending is priceless (in a bad way). There Gdolkin is, a gullible drooling idiot with a very short temper, and well, you will have to see for yourself.

If you have considered starting an Iron Hands army in Warhammer 40,000, this will turn you off from them forever. If you have an Iron Hands army then you will be seriously disillusioned if you read this book. I am a hardcore Iron Hands player, they are my favorite army, but I really, really had to force myself to finish it. The only reason I give this book 2 stars is because the book does have a few good parts. One star is reserved for the very bottom of the barrel.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2005-03-12

I thought Green's 'Crusade for Armageddon' was a pretty good book but I had to force myself to finish 'Iron Hands'. The writing is just repetitive, tiring, and full of fluff. If I had to read 'black ichor' one more time I was going to scream. The story is un-interesting and the characters not only shallow but also not likable. Granted the universe of WH40K is fiction but Green makes the world completely unbelievable in this story.

The one good thing about the book is Green does a nice job of describing both ground and space actions. Fans of BFG will find some interesting sections.

If you like WH40K go read Abnett's books.

1 out of 5 stars No surprises here........2007-07-24

Roughly half of this book simply puts excessive text to the most basic of knowledge.. Pictures were possibly drawn by Master Long himself; far more skilled in Martial Arts than Illustrative Arts. The secret to the Striking area toughening process consists of throwing strikes at a training block. It is likely that you will feel like you could have written this up in a few hours.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for martial artists.......2004-02-23

This book was wonderful, full of knowledge and education. This book was very educational for both adults and children and able to be understood by both.
It shows proper techniques and common misunderstanding to the art of breaking.

A must have for anyone that does or plans to do breaking!!!

4 out of 5 stars Detailed anatomy only for a few kinds of breaks,conditioning.......1998-11-22

The book gives a detailed anatomy explanation, but it only discusses a few kinds of breaks. No speed breaks are dicussed. Focusses on only one way to condition striking surfaces. Fair, worth it for the anatomy lessons allone, with focus on avoiding common errors. How to avoid certain nerves and wrong points of contact for sidekick.

4 out of 5 stars Thriller in Germania nicely Roman.......1998-01-11

Lindsey Davis has the uncanny ability to capture the Roman attitude and prejudices toward the lands across the Alps. The Romans considered those tall, blonde, celtic warriors to be the most foreign of foreigners, with their hideous rites of human sacrifice and odd Druidic worship. Falco and company tread where most Romans feared to tread, both in foreign, barbarian territory and through the battle grounds of lost legions, slaughtered by the enemy. Yet Davis also understands that people are people, and that some aspects of nature never change, such as trade and prosperity being reliant on local army installations, as the Gauls and Celtic tribes within the Roman province are. The somber tone of this novel is broken up with the humorous and familiar universal traveler with his traveler's woe. As Americans, it is sometimes difficult for us to appreciate what it is like for Europeans who live among Roman relics, whose history is intricately tied to that of Rome. It is easy to overlook the place of Germania in the Roman world, and the fact that it was the tribal north who finally conquered Rome. The Iron Hand of Mars should not be overlooked, nor underestimated. It is a thrilling adventure into unknown territory combined with the humor of travel and the problems of having too many relations.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing entry in the Falco series........1997-11-10

Falco is off his home turf and it shows in this book. Barely a mystery at all, the ongoing Falco /Helena relationship has never been more tedious. Helena's brother is nicely sketched but his emotional crisis is forced and not believable. The murder is easily forgotten for chapters at a time. The ending is a disappointment.

          1 out of 5 stars Don't Bother.......2006-07-12

First of all, "Iron Eyes Cody" is not Native American (Indian); he is Italian. While some of the signs in this book are valid, a number are not. A couple are misleading or just flat wrong. If you truly want to learn hand talk, buy the William Tompkins book on the subject. That way if you're around real Native Americans, they won't laugh at you for using the wrong signs. Maybe just tease you for your "accent". Aaaaaayyyyy!
