A few good nuggets.......2007-04-11
I think the central theme is good. I learned a bit about the Tao, and I like the parallels the author draws between the Tao and good photography. By the end I found some of it repetitive, but overall I enjoyed his thesis and found it thought provoking.
Why should you read this book? To learn to see. For real........2007-01-10
If you want to learn which f stop to use for a picture at the beach, don't read this book. If you want to learn what "ISO Rating" means, go somewhere else. If your pictures now are decent - well focused & exposed - but they seem to look like all the others, and lack _something_, then this book may help you find that something.
I had two pictures that I knew were excellent. I could feel it. They stood over the rest, but I didn't know why! I couldn't make more like them. If you have that frustration, then READ THIS BOOK! Now. Then look what happens to your pictures. They will be different. Mine were definitely better.

This inspirational publication gives a refreshing and unadulterated alternative to approaching photography as an artist, amateur, professional - indeed any combination one percieves oneself. This book speaks to all levels of photographers regardless of age, skill, financial resources or any other categories that may exist.

I recently read The Tao of Photography by Philippe Gross and S Shapiro. This is, by far, the best book I have found on how to allow the photograph to find you, rather than the other way around. I highly recommend it to anyone who's interested in thinking outside the box, even if you don't have much interest in Taoism as a philosophy. This book might indeed change your views on photography and Taoism both.

If you have chased after technical excellence and secured the skills necessary to produce near perfect technical images but realized they lack a soul and imagination then maybe this is the book for you. For many of us who love photography, beyond a hobby or sport or other activity, we will reach a point where we will know how to solve nearly all technical problems. We will have surrounded ourselves with high end gear and have come to realize that the knowledge and gear alone just are not enough. We will have mastered the words and grammer of the visual language but have not mastered the means to take in the world around us and impress it on our hearts and then take that impression with our mind and translate it to the media using our camera. That is a personal journey no book can shortcut for you. This book is the real thing. The more you re-read it and apply the exercises given, the more new perceptions open up to you.
Kristopher uses actual questions and answers from his students in the book. I often found myself having the same question, and the answers are often not what I would expect them to be. Many times I felt like I tapped into Higher Mind when reading.
I hope the author publishes Part II soon!

the book is awesome. however i did not recieve my CD that i paid for. and when i contacted some one by e-mail i recieved no response. i feel had i recieved the CD it would of been a easier trail.
An introduction to the Mastery of Awareness.......2007-02-18
This book provides a good introduction to the Mastery of Awareness of the Eagle Knight lineage. The author blends knowledge from his own work with Don Miguel Ruiz along with another body of instruction he received from the Counsel of Light into this volume. The content was partially derived from an online course he taught in the Mastery of Awareness and included in the text are many questions and observations from the students along with the responses he gave. The benefit in this is that it gives you greater insight into each of the tools that are discussed.
This book focuses mainly on Stalking, the Mitote book and some discussion of the Book of Life, the parasite, Judge & Victim, beliefs and a discussion of the physical, mental and emotional bodies, their role (along with some practical exercises) and feelings and emotions. Other areas are briefly touched upon that include silent knowledge, intuition and knowingness. Contrary to the other review, the only way I could see someone getting nothing out of the book would be if they did not do the exercises. If you do the exercises, you will gain the learning and benefits of enhanced awareness. The exercises may appear simple, they're not always easy though to consistently apply. What people who've read some toltec books may do, is say, 'I've read this before', I already know it and not bother actually using the information! That is of course, the trap and is discussed in this book.
I do think though that in order to get a greater context on the Mastery of Awareness, I'd read other Toltec books (and apply the teachings!), in particular I'd recommend The Complete Idiot's Guide to Toltec Wisdom (it's actually an excellent book even though I'm not keen on the title) and Susan Gregg's The Toltec Way which has enough tools in it to keep you busy for a long time should you decide to apply them. If you're just reading for information or philosophy then perhaps just stay with Castaneda's books or the Complete Idiot's Guide to Toltec wisdom which has a great overview of the different teachers.
What you need to understand with reading the books of Miguel Ruiz's apprentices is that they were taught at different times (he adjusted his teaching so it wouldn't become a belief system) and for different periods of time (some were taught for many years, others for only a few or less than one) and also other authors include other influences in their work (sometimes without pointing that out). Some apprentices were also taught by his mother, Sister Sarita, who apparently brought a more feminine approach to the Toltec teachings which was apparently quite different to Miguel's at that time.
Allow me, if I may, to offer another piece of advice that I've learned through experience. If you're interested in the path, find a teacher that you resonate with and just spend the money on learning the lessons (you're worth it!). If you're thinking that you can learn the path in a less expensive way by buying a few (or many) books, then you're taking the hard path (although I'm sure it's not totally impossible to make good movement). This is simply because you will interpret the teachings in the context of your existing world view and you'll miss out on picking up much of the things in your blindspots, that things you don't know you don't know or worse still think you know but don't actually really know. Morever, there is much, much, much more to the teachings than you'll find in all of the Toltec books that have been published if you had put them together and what you'll miss out on is the subtleties and traps that an experienced guide can provide you.

Impactful Tools and Magical Energy.......2006-07-12
When reading each chapter I was left with the lessons and guidance coming to me wave after wave. The book is deceivingly simple. It is one of those books that with a little application you are able to unlock just how deep some of the teachings are.
I liked the question and answer sections at the end of each chapter. I found myself wishing I could consult with Kristopher while reading, and often found the answer waiting for me at the end of the chapter.
A wonderful book that I will keep close at hand and read many times.

Menley still has never stopped blaming herself for the the death of her two year old son although it was accidental. But now she has a new baby daughter and believes everything might turn alright. But she is wrong. Danger seems to be following her and her baby daughter. Why and who is doing this? A book filled with lots of suspense,I highly recommend it.
Typical Yet Suspenseful.......2003-04-22
Imagine walking down the street and seeing a woman you recognize. When you say, âhiâ, she just looks at you and walks away. Confused, you continue walking when you bump into her again. This time she smiles at you. Now you are really confused. This is the case in Mary Higgins Clarkâs, Let Me Call You Sweetheart. Let Me Call You Sweetheart is a typical Mary Higgins Clark book. There is the usual suspenseful story line, the beautiful woman who becomes involved in the story, and the exciting conclusion. The book kept my attention but Clarkâs books tend to follow that similar plot which can cause the stories to become mundane.
While striving for a New York State judgeship, Kerry McGrath stumbles upon a questionable murder trial. The trial of Skip Reardon. Reardon was convicted for the Sweetheart Murder Case ten years earlier. Skip Reardonâs former father-in-law is Dr. Charles Smith, a well-known plastic surgeon. Kerry McGrathâs daughter, Robin, was in a terrible car accident, which left scars all over her face. Dr. Smith is treating her injuries. Kerry notices that some of Dr. Smithâs patients have identical faces. That of his dead daughter, the Sweetheart Murder victim. Kerryâs curiosity in Dr. Smithâs surgical practices leads her to search for the truth in the Sweetheart Murder Trial. Kerryâs interest in the case jeopardizes her nomination for judge since her boss prosecuted Skip Reardon. Clark lives up to her title as, â~Queen of Suspenseâ as the main character, Kerry McGrath, faces obstacle upon obstacle in her quest to free an innocent man.
As always, Clark develops various characters in detail. She gives the reader background information on each character. By the end of the novel each character is related to one another in an indirect way. For me, Robin McGrathâs character was too far-fetched for a ten year old. I do not know many ten year olds that have an extensive vocabulary and develop their own pictures for pleasure. Perhaps Robin is just a 5th grade genius. Robin refers to pictures she took of autumn leaves with this statement, âI showed you the great shots I got of them just as they started to turn, Mom. I know the ones I took this week with the colors at peak are terrific.â Robin seemed extremely wise for her age. An eccentric character in the book, Jason Arnott, seemed more believable than Robin. Jason Arnott, who was one of the suspects for the Sweetheart Murder, led a double life. Arnott had a hobby of burglarizing his friendsâ homes. Arnott attended many high class social gatherings. At these parties, he memorized the lay out and security system of the house so he could break into the home a later date. Arnott had a secret home in the mountains where he kept all of his expensive stolen loot! Compared to Robin, the other characters and their lives were more believable.
I am a huge fan of murder mysteries. Let Me Call you Sweetheart had all the elements that make a great suspense novel. The story offers the reader a touch of romance with Kerry McGrath and a defense lawyer, Geoff Dorso. The development of their relationship is a nice sub-plot to the main story line. Geoff Dorso has a vital link to solving the murder case. Through this his relationship with Kerry is tested and tried.
Mary Higgins Clark does a magnificent job of weaving her story lines and characters together. She is always dropping subtle clues to help the reader figure out âwho done it.â Let Me Call You Sweetheart is no exception. For those who have just found Mary Higgins Clark, this story was challenging to figure out. Being a fan of Higgins Clark, I was a little disappointed at how the endings to her novels are becoming repetitive. Overall, I enjoyed reading the novel. If you enjoy solving twisted mysteries read Let Me Call You Sweetheart.
Great Suspense.......2002-01-15
Actually it is "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" that I just finished.
It had been on my shelf for a long time, and I'm glad to have pulled it down even though a while after it is being sold separately.
A plastic surgeon is giving select patients all the same face...the face of his murdered daughter Suzanne. Suzanne's husband has been in prison for ten years having been falsely convicted of Suzanne's murder on the testimony of her father.
It's a great read.
I read I'll Be Seeing You and Remember Me some time ago, or else I would buy the new publication. If you have not read these stories you are missing a good dose of Mary Higgins Clark's talent.

Too much sex and not enough substance..........2006-12-18
Everyone and their brothers are having sex every 5 seconds which is great if there was enough substance to the book to make it believable. It's like the author almost forgot there was more to the story than sex until the last few chapters. I really felt this book was a let down in regards to the whole O'Fallon series.
terrific finish to the O'Fallens' "U" trilogy .......2006-12-09
His adopted family needs him so Quaid O'Fallon leaves Alaska after quitting his Coast Guard Search and Rescue job to come home to Fallon's Landing; he feels strongly about family ever since Rory adopted him as one of his own. Apparently Rory has problems with a missing mother and a baby Bonnie.
Cynthia James left a failed fashion design business and an even bigger failure of a marriage behind in New York to come home to Fallon's Landing with her eight years old son in tow. She hopes to regroup and start anew with no man except her offspring in her life. However, her first encounter back home is with Quaid, whom she yearned for as a teen. He has the same thoughts she has, anyone but her as he yearned for her as a teen and still wants her though he is Mississippi and she is Manhattan. While this couple falls in love, the search to find and protect Bonnie's mother from cold-blooded killers continues though increasingly it seems too late.
This is a terrific finish to the O'Fallens' "U" trilogy (see 'TIL THERE WAS and THE WAY U LOOK TONIGHT) as the story line focuses on the third son finding love while the subplot that has run through each tale of Bonnie's mom reaches the climax. Readers will appreciate the O'Fallen four doubling and more as Dianne Cantrell provides a terrific loser to a fine saga.

U Can't Go Wrong With a Castell Romance.......2006-11-26
I'll Be Seeing U concludes the "Four O'Fallons and a Baby" comic romantic suspense trilogy from Dianne Castell, and the ending is extremely satisfying despite my regret at saying good-bye to the O'Fallon clan. This final book showcases the love story of Quaid O'Fallon and Cynthia James and wraps up romantic and suspense storylines from the first two books in the series. The secondary romance between Sally and Demar takes a very rocky road to its happily-ever-after, and it was fun revisiting the other O'Fallon brothers and their soulmates. Castell explores her wonderful world of Fallon's Landing, which she has populated with a comic cast of quirky characters -- from the Columbo-like PI who's a Magnum-wannabe to the two nuns who are anything but pious. Cynthia's son, an endearing egg-head, is a standout in Castell's crowd of memorable characters. And her Southern-fried humor will having you laughing out loud.
Fun, Sexy, and Romantic!.......2006-11-15
This third and final installment in the O'Fallon series is just as fun and sexy as the first two: Till There was U, and The Way U Look Tonight.
Cynthia had a successful clothes designing business, a wonderful son...and a lousy husband who drove her into bankruptcy. Now she's coming home to get her life back together. She's tired of being treated badly by men, and the only guy she wants in her life is her precious son, Lawrence.
Quaid O'Fallon, was the town bad boy who joined the Coast Guard. Now he's returned to help out his family. He decides he wants Cynthia, (whom he had a crush on as a teenager) and sets out to persuade her how good they would be together. He quickly develops a wonderful relationship with Lawrence, and as much as Cynthia tries to resist his charm, she finds she's unable to deny the sparks between them. Quaid has that bad boy appeal, mixed with a sexy vulnerability that makes him my favorite of the O'Fallon guys (and that's a very sexy bunch!!)
The chemistry between Quaid and Cynthia is steamy, and Quaid's growing relationship with Lawrence is heartwarming. As always, Dianne delivers funny dialogue, sexy romance, and even suspense with the storyline of baby Bonnie and her mother.
I highly recommend all three of the books in this series, and was truly sorry to see it come to an end. I love Dianne's stories, and eagerly look forward to her next book!
More fun from Dianne Castell!.......2006-11-15
When Quaid O'Fallon learns of trouble at home involving his baby half-sister and her missing mother, he quickly abandons his Coast Guard job and without a backward glance, returns to Fallon's Landing to be with his father. Quaid was cruelly neglected as a child, stubbornly surviving an abusive environment, he was fortunate enough to be adopted by Rory O'Fallon who raised him as one of his own.
Quaid's first night at home finds him face to face with Cynthia Landon James, a snobby little rich girl who, being a few years older and the stuff of a young boy's dreams, never gave Quaid the time of day. Now she too has returned home, albeit under different circumstances. Cynthia has divorced the cheating husband who ran her successful clothing design business into the ground, resulting in her and their eight year old son, Lawrence, being left with absolutely nothing. Cynthia returns to her mother's home-turned-B&B, shocked to find her gorgeous childhood home looking more than a little shabby, and her mother imbibing uncharacteristic quantities of liquor. Quaid feels differently and while he has his hands full with the mystery of his father's missing lover, the relationship woes of a dear family friend, and running his father's business, all he truly wants his hands full of is Cynthia. He just can't get enough of her and while he is determined to have more than just a brief fling, convincing her that they could have much more may prove to be the most difficult of all of the tasks in front of him.
Cynthia stands up for herself, for Quaid, and for her friends in town, proving herself to be a strongly independent woman, and not just the snooty bit of fluff that everyone remembers. Cynthia's son, Lawrence, visibly grows into a strong young man under the guidance of Quaid, and the three of them make a lovely family. Secondary characters, their relationships, heartaches and motives are vital to Cynthia and Quaid's story.
I'LL BE SEEING U sadly concludes the story of Dianne Castell's O'Fallons. It has been great fun reading this entertaining series, and this final book provides a satisfying ending, tying all loose ends up in a tidy little bow. While I will miss this heartwarming family, I look forward to Dianne's next release.

Full of twists and unpredictable.......2007-06-13
This is a fun read. The main mystery is about Meghan's father. Mehgan tries to unravel whether her dad is dead or alive, if he had a double life, and if he murdered a unqualified fertility doctor after his disappearance. I really liked how all of these story lines flowed together and how they added to the mystery and suspense. I really didn't feel this story line was as predictable as other reviewers felt it was. I went back and forth between suspecting who the real murderer was and the ending surprised me.
I also like how Higgins-Clark developed the characters. That said, Bernie really didn't add anything to this book. I am not sure what Clark needed him for other than to add a disturbed character.
All in all this book did not disappoint.
Lots of action............2006-06-24
This book kept me reading from begining to end. It was great. I especially liked the topic of in vitro fertalization. There was many different elements in the story that lead up to a grand finale at the end. Easy to follow.. and you won't want to put it down. Highly recommend it!
Far fetched and predictable but still entertaining.......2006-06-21
I understand that suspense novels are by design meant to be a little far fetched but this book just had too many coincidences for me to find it even remotely plausible... The book was a decent read but definitely not one of my favorite MHC books. The ending was predictable. I suspected (won't say the name) the "suspect" from the 2nd or 3rd chapter. I was willing to look over the many coincidences but then the end just made me feel robbed...all in all if you aren't an avid suspense reader this book will satisfy you...if you are big suspense/MHC fan this book will dissapoint you.
Good Mystery from the Queen.......2006-05-26
Television reporter Meghan Collins is shocked when a stabbing victim who dies looks exactly like her. She doesn't tell her mother about the woman, or the late-night fax she gets at home, claiming the woman's death was a mistake, because Catherine Collins has enough on her mind. Ten months earlier her husband disappeared, supposedly a victim in a bridge accident. The authorities did not find any remains of Ed Collins or his car, however, so the insurance company is refusing to pay and her bills are piling up. Catherine collapses and winds up in the hospital when someone calls, claiming to be her missing husband.
Meghan had been interviewing personnel at a fertility clinic for a feature story, but when one of the clinic's doctors is murdered and it is found she falsified her credentials, evidence points at Ed Collins, who got the woman hired at the clinic through his professional placement business. Because of the scandal, Meg is placed on leave, so she uses the time to investigate her father, who had a lot of secrets. In addition to the double life Meg and her mother begin to suspect Ed Collins had, it is possible he had even more to hide. The burning question is...is Ed Collins alive or dead?
Meanwhile, Meghan is being stalked by a parking attendant who took a liking to her, and he's hanging around her mother's house and place of business hoping for glimpses of Meg. Meg's feelings for her mother's neighbor, Mac, rekindle as she spends time with him and his small son, looking into discrepancies at her father's business and at the fertility clinic.
Since the last couple of Clark books I read introduced a multitude of characters I couldn't keep straight, I decided to make myself a cheat sheet. I was glad I did, since there were at least a dozen recurring characters introduced within the first 50 pages. I didn't seem to need to refer to it very often, though. This was an intriguing story with several components all tied into one answer. In all, a very entertaining read that kept me turning the pages. This is definitely one of Mary Higgins Clark's better books.
Great for reluctant female readers.......2006-04-28
Mary Higgins Clark writes a pretty good mystery, and all her heroines wear GREAT clothes. What more does a teenage girl need to captivate her? Add in short chapter lengths, a handsome male suitor that is devoted to the protagonist, and a few harrowing twists and turns, and this book is almost irresistable for a young reader.
No, it doesn't qualify as a literary masterpiece, but it definitely can prove to a kid why reading CAN be enjoyable. And for adults, I can think of worst ways to "escape" than with a good, easy mystery.

This is the first book of Margaret Mayhew's that I have read. What a great book! I have two young children and don't have much time to read a book. I finished this book in a day. Something I haven't been able to do in years. It was so captivating. I loved it and will read more of her books. I can't wait to read another one.

Until a better translation comes along, this is one of the only English works on Master Chih-i who has been a reference for Zen and Esoteric Buddhists in Japan for centuries.
The concept Shikan (Jp.) Chi Kuan (Chinese) is that of Stopping & Seeing. This is the basic meditation of Buddhism, (Shamatha and Vipashyana).
The work is also one of the few Buddhist documents that references Incense used in Buddhist meditation.
A good reference in respect to the incense mentions is Bedini's "Trail of Time" and the Chapter regarding the Nalada monks going to China, and the Incense Seal of Avolokitesvara.

If you are the kind of person that likes to read romance but not the mushy gooshy-stuff you will like this book. There are good and bad things about this book though, for instance at some points it sounds a lot like a soap opera like Days Of Our Lives. It drags on and on in parts. Another thing that I thought was bad about the book was the ending. I am a type of girl who is for the good ending. You might think different but I think that the author, Lurlene McDaniel, should write another book about just Kyle and Carley, and how their lives turn out.
There are also a lot of good things about this book for instance. I liked this book because it does have some medical terminology in it so, I was very happy about that. I liked it when the author described what was going on with Carley's bones in her knee. I think that the author want to keep the reader guessing because it sure did keep me guessing and it was also suspenseful. I kind of always knew what was going to happen next. I kind of figured that Kyle would get a certain something back because like I said earlier it is like a soap opera. Most soap operas either make a character come back to life or make someone get something back that they are not supposed to.
Besides for the bad stuff that happened, the book was pretty good. It had good attention getters so it made me want to keep reading.

This book wasn't exactly what i expected. I'm not saying it wasn't good. It was! I just wish that there was a little bit more drama.
My Favorite Book.......2006-11-14
This is my favorite book of Lurlene Mcdaniel's. Carley broke her leg, and wound up in the hospital with an infection. She had no idea that she would meet the dream man of her life. When she does meet him she finds out that he is blind...he's not sure if it will be temporary or permenant. She makes friends with him and grows to love him. She feels safe around him, because he can't see her face...her secret his safe. Her face was left permenantly scarred when she was twelve years old from cancer. It was removed leaving the left side of her face "a mess" She helps Kyle (the blind patient) as he struggles with the realization that he could always be blind. Her understanding and jokes make him like her as well. When she gets out of the hospital... he calls her and tells her that he is going to see, and he wants to meet her face to face. The rest of the story is for you to find out. I only included a basic storyline. This is a must read. Hope you write more Lurlene Mcdaniel!!!!!!!!!! You're Awesome!!

If you have ever felt like you are not pretty, then read this book. It is about a young girl who thought she was ugly. Then she meets a boy who falls for the real her. I loved this book. It remined me that being pretty isnt the most important thing in the world.

Carly is a girl who had a tumor when she was younger and she looks like a dog. She goes to the hospital and she meets a boy name Kyle Westin. He starts to like her and Carly doesn't know what to do anymore because he is tempoarilrty blind and she doesn't know what Carly looks like at all. Well Kyle comes to see her and actually gets to se her face. Carly didn't know if he wuld wanty to see her anymore beacuse she is ugly. He comes to her on Valentines day and she sees a banner across the sky saying Carly will you be mine? Carly then says she has to call him that night to get to be better friends with him.
