Easy Read.......2007-07-31
This book was easy to read and gave excellent examples and case studies. it was short and to the point and didn't drag on an idea. It was also informative in that it gave you when it was the author's bias or actual studied facts.
Graduate student review of Program Evaluation.......2006-03-14
This book is used as a text book in my graduate class on evaluation in Instructional Technology. The book is clear, easy to understand, thorough and a good "primer" on evaluation.
The best evaluation survey text.......2005-02-24
This text surveys evaluation theory and practice in a manner that is easy to understand and teach. It's appropriate for undergraduate or graduate work in performance evaluation. The authors do an excellent job of reviewing the history and key literature. They also briefly explain popular methodologies and discuss different approaches, such as objective and holistic. The book includes case study material that highlights processes, advantages, drawbacks, and potential problems of evaluation efforts. The authors avoid consulting hype and focus on building the evaluation body of knowledge. An update with Fitzpatrick listed as the first author is now available and also is excellent.
All models evaluation book.......2000-08-05
Even though it is not an Evaluation Manual which sometimes comes in handy for conducting evaluation studies, it is a very good book. I have used it for my Masters Program (at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala) and found it very useful both for the theoretical and for the practical parts. It covers all major models tracing their origins. I plan on using it for my Doctoral Program, at Universidad de Costa Rica.
Very Thorough.......2000-02-05
I've been using this book as a resource for evaluating programs at our college and for my doctoral research. The book is well organized and contains several examples and paradigms with which to evaluate programs in both govermental and corporate settings. Expensive book but one that you'll keep handy!

Customer Reviews:
A good catalog.......2007-05-13
Overall, it is a very good catalog for material types and technologies. I wish they also had some pricing information.
never received the book!!.......2007-05-07
its been 3 months and i'm still waitting for the book!
it's like a well made catalogue .......2007-01-11
Not bad informations in it because it covers so wide range of architectural materials, but its depth of knowledge is rather shallow.
It might be good for a reference when you need something new but there's no special derection on it.
Transmaterial Damage.......2007-01-10
Book was probably excellent as expected, but it arrived at my Post Office box in Darwin Australia badly damaged. I tried to contact Amazon to complain, and send photos of the damage, but the Amazon delivery site does not provide a 'complaint' option, and the Amazon home site does not appear to have a 'contact us' option.
I know there aren't many real live people out there in the commercial world, but if anyone from Amazon happens to read this, could you please contact me and advise how I can send you details of the damage?
Artist's view.......2007-01-05
All the entries in the book were clear and well-presented. I particularly liked the format with different sections relating to types of materials. Colour photos of most products were useful in evaluating the materials and their possible uses. In fact, they were very inspirational in their potential for artwork. It was also good to have contact details for each product - the only disappointment being that some companies did not respond to our email enquiries (which is not the fault of the book).

Must Have For the Road to Recovery.......2007-08-13
I had knee pain due to runners knee (patella tracking) and started physical therapy. I did PT twice a week for 4-5 months and the pain worsened and became chronic. I could not exercise and even sitting at work was painful. I went to an orthopedist and had x-rays and a MRI to rule out other issues and he found nothing other than the patella tracking issue and suggested me to continue on with more PT. At this point I decided to try yoga, even though the PT felt it would be a waste of my time. I got this book since it was specifically for knees and went through the full routine for a week and felt much better and went cold turkey on PT as it was doing nothing other than thinning my wallet. Within a month I could exercise again (not run though, too much pressure under the kneecap still). After 3-4 months I can run again with no discomfort. For maximum sustained benefit Yoga needs to be practiced consistently and I do find if I go too long my knees will both me slightly, much like the author warns of. The poses in this book are basic and were not intimidating to me with the exception of Hero Pose which I did not attempt for a few months, but now I can comfortably hold the pose for a few minutes with no support. Explanations are excellent and pictures are sufficient. Overall a must buy for those with knee pain.
Yoga for Health Knees: What You Need to Know for Pain Prevention and Rehabilitation.......2006-07-13
Excellent Book. Well illustrated and easy to follow. Well designed for people with joint problems, who want to strenghthen their bodies through yoga.
What a steal!.......2006-01-19
Knees bees. Whatever. Just got this book a week ago, so as far as helping knees per se, don't know, but most impressed with it. These few yoga exercises limbers up the entire hip, leg area. It identifies which side is tighter. She even rightly points out to go barefoot often to strengthen feet that have been too conditioned to shoes.
I'm not a fan of static stretching, although athletic and engage in speed skating, weightlifting, running, hiking, but this book could stand alone as a stretching book, utilizing yoga.
For such a cheap price, it's a steal.
More than healthy knees.......2005-08-19
This guide book should not only be read by people with knee problems, but also by those wanting to develop the bodily awareness that comes from an understanding of basic yoga asanas. While I don't suffer from knee problems, I was drawn to Sandy Blaine's concise descriptions and the attention to detail for the 17 poses presented. This is particularly true for her advice on how to internally support our knees without locking them.
My knees already feel better.......2005-07-23
This book is very useful for those of us with knee problems. Some of the poses presented may be familiar from other sources, but the instructions for doing them are very detailed and supplement information available elsewhere (in the extended triangle pose, for instance). The focus on how your knees specifically are feeling (and should be feeling) in each pose is great. I also like the model this book uses; she looks like a regular person who has become flexible through consistent practice, not like some Olympic gymnast that you could never hope your efforts to match. I've been doing about 7 of these poses a day for about a week, and my knee pain has already lessened. Yoga is the best! This book is a bargain.

Book Description
This book offers a systematic and comprehensive presentation of the concepts of a spin manifold, spinor fields, Dirac operators, and A-genera, which, over the last two decades, have come to play a significant role in many areas of modern mathematics. Since the deeper applications of these ideas require various general forms of the Atiyah-Singer Index Theorem, the theorems and their proofs, together with all prerequisite material, are examined here in detail. The exposition is richly embroidered with examples and applications to a wide spectrum of problems in differential geometry, topology, and mathematical physics. The authors consistently use Clifford algebras and their representations in this exposition. Clifford multiplication and Dirac operator identities are even used in place of the standard tensor calculus. This unique approach unifies all the standard elliptic operators in geometry and brings fresh insights into curvature calculations. The fundamental relationships of Clifford modules to such topics as the theory of Lie groups, K-theory, KR-theory, and Bott Periodicity also receive careful consideration. A special feature of this book is the development of the theory of Cl-linear elliptic operators and the associated index theorem, which connects certain subtle spin-corbordism invariants to classical questions in geometry and has led to some of the most profound relations known between the curvature and topology of manifolds.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2001-12-22
Who would have known that the equation discovered by P.A.M. Dirac in the 1920's would have the enormous appllications to mathematics that it currently has. This book is an excellent overview of these applications, written by two individuals who are responsible for the development of many of these. Dirac's theory of course had its origins in physics, and physicists, particularly those working in high energy physics, will find this book interesting and helpful.
The authors give a brief introduction and then move on to the representation theory of Clifford algebras and spin groups in chapter 1. The reader can see the origin of Clifford algebras and an introduction to the Pin and Spin groups. Clifford algebras are classified as matrix algebras over the real or complex numbers, and the quaternions. It is the representation theory of Clifford algebras however that has resulted in the impressive results outlined in the book Noting that the tensor product of Clifford algebras is not necessarily a Clifford algebra, the authors introduce a Z(2)-grading on a Clifford algebra, which results in a multiplicative structure in the representations of Clifford algebras. The Lie algebras of the Pin and Spin groups are discussed along with applications to geometry and Lie groups. By far the most interesting discussion though is on K-theory, which allows one to define a ring structure on vector bundles. Distinguishing a base point in the base space, relative K-groups are defined, and shown to be equal for the base space and its i-fold suspension. Bott periodicity results are stated but their proof is delayed until chapter 3. A detailed discussion is given of the Atiyah-Bott-Shapiro isomorphism and KR-theory.
The connection between spin and differential geometry is discussed in chapter 2. The first few sections is a review of standard results in the spin structure of vector bundles, such as Stiefel-Whitney classes and spin cobordism. For Riemannian vector bundles, each fiber has a quadratic form that gives rise to a Clifford algebra on the fiber. The question as to when a vector bundle over the Riemannian base space can be found that has fibers each an irreducible module over this Clifford algebra leads to a consideration of spin manifolds and spin cobordism, when the total space is chosen to be the tangent bundle. The Dirac operator acting on a bundle over this Clifford bundle allows the construction of all the standard elliptic operators such as the signature, Atiyah-Singer, and the Euler characteristic. The authors discuss these constructions in detail along with the notion of of Cl(k)-linear operators.
The Dirac operator can be viewed in Euclidean space as the square root of a Laplace operator, but over general manifolds it is the Laplacian with a correction term dependent on the curvature and Clifford multiplication. The Bochner vanishing theorems are discussed in great detail, along with the results on the existence of exotic spheres.
An entire chapter is spent on index theorems, wherein the authors present the results in terms of the approach used by Atiyah and Singer, instead of the heat kernel methods of Gilkey and Patodi. Physicists might prefer the later approach, due to its connections with applications, but the abstract K-theory approach undertaken by the authors is elegant and their presentation is excellent. The role of physics in index theorems is a fascinating one though, especially the use of supersymmetry to simplify the proofs of some of the results. The authors do not discuss this approach, but point out, interestingly, that it does not work when one is dealing with torsion elements in K-theory. These cannot be detected using cohomology nor can the modulo-two invariants appearing in the index theorems be computed from local densities.
The last chapter is a long one and discusses applications in differential topology and geometry, emphasizing index thoerems and Riemannian manifolds of positive scalar curvature. The authors outline just when the indexes are integers (the integrality theorems) and use spin geometry to discuss the immersion problem for manifolds and the vector field problem. Exotic n-spheres again make their appearance, wherein it is shown that some of these have very few symmetries and are very asymmetric objects. A short introduction to elliptic genera is given. Interestingly, C*-algebras are briefly mentioned as tools to decide whether for every compact spin manifold with positive scalar curvature all higher A-genera must be zero. Spin-c manifolds are not treated, the authors instead concentrating their attention to Kahlerian geometry. In this context the Clifford algebra multiplication has a beautiful relationship with the complex structure. A brief discussion is given of the pure spinors of Cartan and twistor spaces. The theory of holonomy and calibrations, the later due to one of the authors, is discussed in great detail. The discussion begins in the consideration of when universal covering spaces are not Riemannian manifolds and their holonomy groups have been classified. The idea of a calibration arises from the consideration of submanifolds that are homologically volume-minimizing. These become calibrations when the integrals of p-forms on them are the volumes, and these p-forms have vanishing differentials on oriented tangent p-planes on the manifold. The authors give an interesting discussion of the relation between spinors and calibrations.
Essential for grad students in geometry/topology.......1998-12-23
As a graduate student in mathematics I survived on this encyclopedic work. Anyone interested in differential geometry or differential topology will eventually need something in this book.
Prerequisites are graduate-level algebra and analysis, and some topology and differential geometry. He introduces the subject of pseudodifferential operators and Sobolev spaces, but it's easy to get lost in that part unless you first read Shubin's book "Pseudodifferential operators and Spectral theory". Also, the quick shuffling of Lie group information can be disheartening if you're not used to it. Harvey's book "Spinors and Calibrations" is a more elementary book if this is the case.
This book touches on many important topics like the Atiyah-Singer Index Theorem, the Bochner method, Riemann-Roch, and mathematical physics, but you will probably want to supplement your reading with individual books on each of these topics.

Pobre Ana.......2007-03-16
This is an excellent 'beginning' book for anyone who wants to increase their Spanish learning.
It consists of 300 of the most frequently used words in a first year Spanish class that make up a wonderful story.
It is suitable, I feel, for anyone from Middle School to adult.
Good Spanish I Reader.......2003-05-17
I teach first-year high school Spanish and I use Pobre Ana near the end of the course. I could use it earlier as well.
The chapters are short. The story contrasts life in California with life in Tepic, Mexico, all through the eyes of Ana.
Ana is from California and doesn't think her quality of life is adequate since she doesn't have a new Mustang, et.al. However, once in Mexico she sees that relationships and the things she can control (like knowing Spanish well) are more important.
The story is a good language learning tool, especially the obviously necessary use of the indirect object pronouns throughout with all the "she said to them", "he said to her" tags.
I would have given 5 stars, but my early edition had a couple of character's names mixed up. I assume that this has been corrected by now.

Mysterious Stranger.......2006-07-13
AMAZING BOOK. If you are a David Blaine fan it is a must have. I will keep this review short. He goes into the history of magic, explaining the lifes of many famous magicians. He tells his own story from his childhood to his stunt Frozan in Time. He also explains how he first started in magic to where he is now. He explains a couple of card tricks, which is nice. He explains Buried Alive, Frozen in Time, and Vertigo. All I have to say is the book is amazing, and after I read this book the magic really got into me and I have started practicing and learning magic.
This Book Is Magic.......2006-06-06
I bought Mysterios stranger just days ago after being a David Blaine fan for several years. I have read it twice, once beginning to end. Blaine is an expert at his craft and is truly dedicated. Blaine tells the history of magic and reveals the stories of some of the great showmen of all time. The book takes a look at Blaine's bio and some of his magic and feats of endurance. The layout, art, and editing of the book are as brilliant as Blaine's magic. I would recommend this book to anyone, Blaine fan or not.
I truly respect the message that Blaine spreads and the manner in which he carries himself. He is always humble and spreads joy to people of all race, religion, and class. He believes(just as I) that mankind is capable of many things and that we always reach for our full potential. Blaine,as Houdini in his time, has set a new standard. I look forward to more from him.

Product Description
From the first turn of the card to getting out of a foreign country with a suitcase full of cash, BLACKJACK BLUEPRINT is the most comprehensive book ever written on learning to play blackjack for profit. This book covers everything from basic strategy to counting cards, from maximizing potential going solo to playing on a blackjack team. Casino comps, tournaments, location play, shuffle tracking, playing in disguise, outwitting the eye in the sky, and other advantage-play techniques--it's all here. Best of all, the techniques you learn in BLACKJACK BLUEPRINT can be used part-time as a money-making hobby, just as author Rick Blaine has used them for years while pursuing a career in finance.

Few Better Books to Learn About BJ Basics.......2007-07-07
I'm reading "Blackjack Blueprint" for the second time.
It is an impressive tutorial and practice guide for
anyone seriously interested in learning to play blackjack.
Similar to Revere's classic work, Mr. Blaine explains the
basics one must learn to get an advantage playing the game.
Then he offers practice drills designed to ingrain those
basic skills/info, so the new BJ player can perform at a
level to compete with the casinos.
The last half of the book introduces related topics like
BJ tournament play, casino critters, comps, shuffle tracking,
team play, camouflage, etc. All interesting topics for aspiring
advantage players.
Blackjack Blueprint is among the best introductory books on
advantage blackjack play that I've read. It compares favorably
with Revere's and Wong's books, and is more up-to-date.
I don't hesitate to recommend it, and am happy to own it.
Blaine Knows His Game.......2007-03-01
Rick Blaine is a blackjack expert who understand all aspects of the game and can take you step by step through many of the problems and experiences that savvy blackjack players encounter. His information is diverse and valuable. What is just as important is that he writes in a way that is easily understandable to even average players. He has a wealth of knowledge and this book shows flair and insight. Whether you become an advanced card counter or a super-astute basic strategy player, gaining more knowledge is important to become the best player you can be. This book gives you plenty of knowledge.

A Must Have!.......2006-11-11
I read this book quickly at the bookstore the other day and was thouroughly impressed. I prescreen my blackjack books now due to the sheer number of them and that most of them are recycled and crap. This, however, was truly an exception. This book takes the beginner from the very basics of the game, to basic strategy, card counting, and money management, all while explaining how to get away with it in a practical enviornment. Add in anecdotes and a special section of putting together a team, and you have yourself a unique and refreshing reference guide. I particularly liked the added drills that were included with this novel. Definately one of the better of the blackjack book genre.
Well rounded.......2006-09-20
There are a million card counting books out there, most of which offer a more thorough examination of card counting than this one does. But then again, for most of us, 300 pages about the minutae of card counting may be a bit much.
What this book offers is a quick but sufficient introduction to basic strategy and card counting based on Stanford Wong's Hi-Lo system, which is pretty easy to learn. Blaine spends a chapter on teaching the reader how to count, and then another one on how to adjust to a true count. Subsequently, he shows how to tailor your play (and betting, of course) to the count.
The card counting portion takes up less than half of the book. Some of the rest of the book may or may not be interesting to some readers. The sub-title of the book is "How to Play Like a Pro...Part-Time", but much of the remainder of the book is more "professional" in nature. There is a section on zone tracking as well as a LOT of stuff on team play.
I am not a professional card counter. In fact, I read the book based mostly on curiosity and the desire to perhaps play at a slight advantage at low stakes on Vegas trips. However, I still found the section on team play interesting on its own merits. Blaine kept a diary of a team and its successes (or in this case, failures). It was nice to see that Blaine didn't sugar coat things and included a section on how even at an advantage, negative swings are inevitable at times.
If you're planning a trip to Vegas, the book is definitely worth a read. Pick it up a few weeks beforehand and give the card counting tips some practice and I think it'll be more than worth the twenty bucks you shell out for it.
Something for everyone.......2006-07-22
I've read several books on Blackjack, as that is the only game I enjoy at the casinos. This one definitely added to my knowledge. Seems like it has something for all levels of players. I particularly liked the list of things that inexperienced counters do (but shouldn't). I found that I do most of them (sigh). Knowing this now should help me to advance my game and cover. The sections on team play weren't relevant to me, but still interesting reading.

Easy read, and the principles are excellent...... This is a book everyone should read......
The Four Laws of Debt free Prosperity.......2006-08-14
I purchased 3 books. One for myself, one for my daughter and one for a friend. I have read 3/4 of the book and find it easy to read and to put the suggestions into practise.
My daughter read her book in a few days and sat down with pen and paper and starting tracking their spending so they could improve their lifestyle by becoming dept free.
Best of many.......2005-09-20
This should be required reading in every high school. If you can't learn to manage your money from this book, you don't really want to. It makes it so simple. This is the second time I've bought this book because I sent the first one to someone I thought needed it. Now I am trying to get my son to take control of his finances and can't think of a better way for him to learn the rules.
Four Laws of WHY you want to read this book!.......2005-06-07
1. It's an easy read! My wife and I read it a couple days apart and neither of us could put it down! I was amazed at how simple the suggestions were based on solid financial principles.
2. By implementing the methods in this book, we were able to immediately identify things we needed to fix financially and implement a plan of action.
3. Everyone you know should read this book. After reading it yourself, all your friends will want to know what you know because you'll be out of debt, and they'll want to know how you did it so quickly!
4. Being in debt is a major cause for concern in any relationship. If you can get a handle on debt, and GET RID of it, your relationships WILL improve, as will your lifestyle.
This book can assist you in becoming completely debt free, and giving you the wisdom you need to STAY that way.
Cheap, simple and effective........2004-07-17
This book was well-written and very helpful. I recommend this book for anyone looking for a simple, but effective way to put a good dent in your debt. Don't be mistaken into thinking that it's easy. It takes a great deal of discipline, but it works and it won't empty your pocket.
