Book Description

The surprise fourth installment, the epic conclusion of Lian Hearn's beloved, bestselling Tales of the Otori.

The Harsh Cry of the Heron: The Last Tale of the Otori is a truly epic novel. It is the rich and satisfying conclusion to the Tales of the Otori series that both completes the characters' lives-prophesied and otherwise-and brilliantly illuminates unexpected aspects of the entire Otori saga. The Harsh Cry of the Heron is the only fitting end to such a stirring series: a book that takes the storytelling achievement of Lian Hearn's fantastic medieval Japanese world to startling new heights of drama and action.

Hearn's Otori series is the best (and only) literary expression of a cultural phenomenon that has swept through cinema (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), comics (manga), and popular culture at large. And, with this book, Hearn delivers in full ninja vs. samurai fashion the kinetic, simultaneously heartbreaking and uplifting resolution that the Otori's hundreds of thousands of fans richly deserve-whose epic satisfaction will surely draw even more readers into the fold.

5 out of 5 stars The Best for Last.......2007-09-28

Ms. Hearn teased and tantalized us but this was definitely the best book of the bunch. I'm including Heaven's Net Is Wide in the equation too. I can't say I wanted it to go down like it did but then again I'm reading her story not mine and I wasn't disappointed in the least. I had no complaints. Highly recommend this book as well as the entire series.

5 out of 5 stars A Fitting Sequel.......2007-07-14

I much enjoyed the first three Tales of the Otori books, and number four did not disappoint. The author presents the historical picture very effectively, while weaving a tale of epic proportions. Few authors so well command the skill of showing the right balance of fairness and unfairness, justice and injustice happening to the central characters. If you read the first three books, you must get this one, and if you did not, but have an interest in feudal Japan, get all four.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting.......2007-07-07

I am a huge fan of the first three books. I read this one with very high expectations for that reason. I would hate to use the word "disappointing" but it really wasn't what I expected. It was a good read, don't get me wrong, but it will never live up to the original trilogy. I would recommend buying it... The begining was alright, the middle was jumpy and drawn out, and the end was quite twisted and unexpected, but captivating all the same. Over all worth it though. Enjoy.

1 out of 5 stars An Author Who Obviously Hates Happy Endings And True Love.......2007-06-27

I am always a bit wary when writing a review because I don't want too unintentionally give away to much plot and spoil it for people. I will try not to give away anymore of the novel than any of the other reviewers have...That being said I must say what a complete disappointment this book was! I enjoyed the first three books, though felt they were a bit doom and gloom and depressing at times as well. I listened to the entire series on audiobook and tried to listen to the fourth without going back but got 40 minutes into the book and had no idea what was going on! Even after listening to the third book again I was often confused by all the many different characters and the plot twists that depended on you remembering previous novels. The names of many of the characters are so similar that, even though I feel the narrators were wonderful, I was often confused as to who was who. All this I could put aside and give 3 stars to this book if it wasn't for the ending...Horrible! As many others feel it had a hurried feel to it as if the author was thinking "Uh oh getting way too long I better end it soon". And without giving away too much plot the character change of Kaede from the first 3 books to this one really stretches plausibility and her COMPLETE character change at the end was beyond the slightest credibility. The message the first three books seem to impart is "love can conquer all" and the message the last book imparts is "love WILL conquer all so if your stupid enough to try it watch your back"...Not the kind of book or message I want to waste 20 or so hours of my life on...Bottom line = Avoid this book at all costs!

1 out of 5 stars It never ends........2007-05-30

I liked the first three books well enough. The first was the best (if implausible), the second quite enjoyable (even though it strained credibility) and the third was alright (absolutely unbelievable). My reading speed kept diminishing as the series progressed, but my true challenge was trying to finish this one, the fourth. This book is practically unreadable.
Just as all the other reviewers have said, it's too convoluted and has too many characters by half (wracking your brain to remember who was who=not fun). NOTHING HAPPENS during the first 3/4 of the book. They travel here and there and talk unlikely politics. So finally the writer wraps up the whole mess in a narrative of the main character's fate.
If you enjoyed the original 3 books, skip this and enjoy your memories.

Book Description

An eye–opening book about prophecy, Catholicism, and the last days. Has the view of the Church of Rome as the woman who rides the beast in Revelation 17 become outdated? Hunt carefully sifts through history and prophecy to provide an answer.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars GRUESOME.....BUT TRUE.......2007-09-13

This book is based on biblical prophecy and thats all there is to it. Any true bible believing christian knows that you can not just take what you like from the bible and everything that tickles society the wrong way can be tossed. There are way too many similarities in the book of Revelations for the Roman Catholic Institution not to be the Harlot that it speaks of. People need to wake up and come out of her. Christ and Christ alone is the only way to get to heaven.

1 out of 5 stars Dishonesty at its worst.......2007-04-08

I have had a copy of Dave Hunt's book for a number of years. As a Church historian I was shocked by his poor understanding of history, Church documents and outright dishonesty in his handling of sources. When Hunt can find a source he can't simply twist, he simply makes things up to suit his purposes.

Want proof?

On page 339 (paperback), Hunt wrote: "The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine bluntly declares:"

And then he lists this indented quote with brackets in the original:

"Man can obtain a knowledge of God's Word [only] from the Catholic Church and through its duty constituted channels."

"When he has once mastered this principle of divine authority [residing in the Church], the inquirer is prepared to accept whatever the divine Church teaches on faith, morals and the means of grace."

So what's wrong with that two paragraph quote? No such thing exists - at least not the way he listed it. Let me explain. Yes, there really is a Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, but you won't find that quote in it as he listed it. First, check Hunt's own footnotes. You'll discover that the pages on which this quote appears is pages 25-27. I have a copy of the catechism from the same publisher. The quote does not appear on the pages listed. Maybe that was a simple error. Look through the catechism, however, and this is what you'll discover. The second paragraph of the quote is on page roman numeral vi. In other words, it's on the second page of the catechism. The first part of the quote is on page 36!!!!! That's right. Hunt transposed the two quotes, pretended they were one contiguous quote (after listing them in the wrong order) and then got the pages wrong or simply falsified the page humbers. Hunt's book is filled with rank dishonesty. To say that Hunt took the quotes out of context is a gross over-simplification.

Another example shows up on page 95. Here Hunt cited Henry Chadwick, the author of Early Christian History, as proof that "Pope Leo I (440-61) boasted that St. Peter and St. Paul had 'replaced Romulus and Remus as the city's [Rome's] protecting patrons." Hunt's intention is clear. He wants his reader to believe that Catholicism is merely paganism with a veneer of Christianity pulled tautly over it. The problem is that his example doesn't work for him. If you actually read Chadwick's book, however, page 243, you'll discover that Chadwick made it clear that Leo was a champion of Christianity, told his fellow Christians to not mix their Christian beliefs with paganism and unearthed and stopped a Manichee infiltration of the Church. Chadwick is clear. Hunt tries to falsify Chadwick's opinion of Leo. Such handling of sources is not only dishonest but thoroughly unchristian. Such dishonesty, however, is par for the course for Hunt.

A friend of mine, also a Church historian, was given this book by an anti-Catholic when he was considering becoming a Catholic. He saw through it instantly and was saddened to see that people believed these sorts of things. We were fortunate. He had a master's degree in church history and so did I. Most other people lack that sort of education, don't read much, won't bother to check Hunt's sources and will be fooled. Sad.

2 out of 5 stars Unfortunate and off the mark.......2007-03-28

As many reviewers have noted, this book comes across as an anti-Catholic polemic. That is unfortunate because I see no Christian value in empty polemic. If Hunt's intention in writing the book was to point out the doctrinal differences between Roman Catholics and Protestants then he failed. If Hunt's intention in writing the book was to present a balanced, exegetically sound discussion of Rev. ch. 17 then he failed. If Hunt's intention was to repeat observations and anecdotes about corruption in the Roman Catholic Church then he succeeded, but I personally don't hold that to be an especially useful objective, and I think that is a misuse of Rev. ch. 17. It would certainly be possible to write a book about corruption in the various Protestant denominations as well, but I would make the same complaint about that book as I do about Hunt's book.

Space does not permit a full analysis of Rev. ch. 17, but let me point out that "spiritual Babylon" as a corrupting force goes back to the historical city of Babylon. There is evidence for this both in the Bible and in extra-biblical sources. The text of ch. 17 points out that the "seven hills" "are seven mountains...and they are seven kings". To read this as referring to any city is simply poor hermeneutics. What the text does seem to be telling us is that by the time we reach the events mentioned there will be a worldwide "church" or religion of some sort. Undoubtedly it will include people from various Christian denominations, as well as people from other religions. We are told, for instance, "(1 Ti 4:1) But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons". This is a statement about the Church (all Christendom), not merely one denomination. For this religion, or
"church" to be worldwide it will need to embrace other religions in some way.

If someone wants to explore the differences between various Protestant beliefs and Roman Catholic beliefs then I suggest there are far better ways to do so than to base your understanding on Hunt's book. Historically, many Protestants looked to Luther's formulation as the essential crux of the dispute: man is saved by grace alone (sola gratia), through faith alone (sola fide), and we hold to Scripture alone as the highest authority (sola scriptura). Today, some churches that think of themselves as "Protestant" no longer hold to these essential differences, and have moved towards the traditional Catholic teachings on some of these issues.

As a last point, I noticed various factual errors in Hunt's book, so it is not difficult to see that his "zeal" overcame his objectivity when he was writing this book. It would be tedious to double-check everything he says, even though he uses endnotes, but be cautious about what he asserts as factual.

4 out of 5 stars A Woman Rides the Beast by Dave Hunt.......2007-03-10

A powerful exposition of the history of the Roman Catholic Church with extensive bibliography. Key quotes of popes and other doctors of that church, along with detailed accounts of significant events relating to its evolution over time, seem well sufficient to contradict the church's claim to inerrancy in doctrine and authority (even apart from the Bible). I thought emphasis on Catholic/Nazi coziness took more space than necessary, but there's plenty here for the Christian apologist and inquiring souls of all Christian persuasions. Engaging -- read all 550 pages in 2-3 days. Some will protest "Catholic bashing", but it's a weak claim in view of Hunt's strong attention to factual details and the case he makes for the supreme importance and urgency of this information.

1 out of 5 stars Garbage.......2007-03-06

I wish the author had talked to Roman Catholics about the Catholic faith before writing this book. He should have also visited Catholic Apologetics web sites, so that his book would be accurate. Unfortunately, 99.9% of this book is horribly wrong.

Book Description

Get ready for Judgment Day.

For centuries, humans have dreaded—and anticipated-- the end of the world. These fears— fueled by natural disasters, famines, world wars, and the writings of people like Nostradamus and Jeane Dixon—have left us with more questions than answers. In The Complete Idiot's Guide® to the Last Days, Richard H. Perry goes to the definitive source on the subject: the Bible itself.
• While the book is as exciting as an action/adventure novel, the author's primary source is the Bible, and he guides his readers to an understanding of the Last Days by using related Scripture
• Covers Bible basics and the Signs of the Times
• Includes timelines of every stage leading up to the Last Days and after

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I've recommended this book for our church library........2007-09-27

If you want to know an uptodate understanding of the end times scenario, this is the book to buy. Richard Perry is easy to understand, and easy to read. I, too, was raised being taught the Pre-Trib, secret rapture belief and held to this teaching for over fifty years. I was a strong believer in this teaching until I retired and had more time to study what God's word actually says, and came to realize, the secret rapture can be found no where in the scriptures. It is simply not there.

Because of the persecutions befalling them from the Roman government and the Jewish leaders, the Thessalonians of the early church were upset because they thought Christ had returned for His people, and they had been left behind. Read what Paul the apostle said to them:

2 Thessalonians 2:1-4
"Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?"

Paul was telling these people that Christ would not come for the believers until there is first a falling of the Church into apostasy, and we see that son of perdition, the antichrist claiming to be God. Don't let anyone tell you Christ can come at any moment before these things happen. This secret rapture belief, which has been preached for some 177 years, is an invention of Satan himself. When you have the chance, do a little research and read about John Nelson Darby, the father of dispensationalism, and Edward Erving, which Mr. Perry discusses in this book.

One reviewer wrote the truth when he said:: "The author is so bias against the pre-trib rapture".

You will not be disappointed in this book if you are searching for the truth. This is a book you will want in your library. I highly recommend it. There are many who hold to the pre-trib secret rapture belief, and, many great men of God in the past have preached this belief. The many, however are not always in the right. I give this book five stars.

5 out of 5 stars The end draws nigh.......2007-08-12

This is an excellent book for anyone interested in the last days according to biblical prophesy. Though God says that no one will be able to tell when the end comes, he will give us signs to know when the end is near. This book does a terrific job of breaking down Revelations and explaining the signs and warnings that will bring us to the end times. This book has me wanting to know more, more than just what happens in the end, but more about both the love and the wrath of God.

5 out of 5 stars Read it with an Open Mind.......2007-07-19

If you are a person who only likes to read books whose authors agree with your view, and you are a pre-trib rapture believer, this book isn't for you. But if you are a person with an open mind, or you are already post-trib in your beliefs, this book offers a great presentation of the post-trib position. The author presents the material in a format that is easy to understand, even for someone new to the area of Bible prophecy. The author also avoids the emotional hoop-la that characterizes a lot of prophecy books. He also avoids the name calling and put-downs that tend to characterize prophecy presentations.

This has become the new book I give to someone who really wants to understand prophecy. The book leads the reader through the various Bible passages using only the literal interpretation of each one. By the end of the book, the author has built a strong case for believing in a single second coming of Christ after the tribulation and before the outpouring of the wrath of God.

It is unfortunate that the book is in the "Idiot" series, as I've heard comments that "only an idiot would read this book." Personally, I feel that only a person who wants to know the truth will read this book. If you are such a person, this is the one book you most want to own.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books ever to be written on Bible prophecy!.......2007-06-27

If you are wanting to read a book that will give you a complete overview of the Bible's last days prophecies, yet also provide meaty, deep detail to answer the tougher questions, this is your book! I have been studying prophecy seriously for about 6-7 years now and have yet to find an author that can simplify the weight of material about the end times like Richard Perry. He has a deductive reasoning to his methods and while he seems to have a lot figured out, he also remains humble in his attitude. He is always urging people, in this book and his others and his website, to search the scriptures to see if what he is writing is true.

I used to be a "pre-trib" person but for years tried to figure out where the scriptures teach such a doctrine. (For the life of me, I still can't see how God's people, whom I don't doubt love the Lord, can believe this from scripture.) Then, I stumbled upon the pre-wrath theory which answered a lot of my questions and got me back to the Bible and not the "doctrines of men". Yet, I am on a journey for truth and have recently seen God revealing more to me as I search and I have come to understand there is just ONE resurrection (rapture) of God's people....not TWO as both pre-wrath and pre-trib teach. Also, the end so clearly will take place at the last trumpet and the opening of the 6th seal....ONE Day of the LORD! Once I let go of Revelation being completely chronological, my eyes were opened to this truth.

While I don't like labels because it can divide people, I urge people to re-consider the validity from scripture for the post-trib resurrection of the saints of God. Throw aside the labels but take another look! God's people will still not suffer God's direct wrath on the Day of the Lord, yet many will undergo persecution during the Great Tribulation. While this author doesn't push a bunch of doctrine or labels, he certainly comes down on a post trib view, yet does so by a thorough handling of the Word of God. His style is unique, "out of the box" in that he isn't easily persuaded by what the "experts" say, and filled with knowledge and humble wisdom. I urge you, as the time may be short, to take another look at scripture with this filter of understanding.

I believe this book will be an excellent resource for the non-believer searching out of curiousity for what the Bible says about "the end", the young Christian just learning AND the mature Christian/Messianic Jew looking for a fresh insight. The only thing I didn't like was that many of the Bible references were left out and it has made it tougher to use as a study guide....HOWEVER, it was done this way to follow the "idiot's approach" to learning so as not to complicate the writing style. In order to check out ALL the verses, I highly recommend his book on the Last Days Mystery (also on Amazon) which details the most important verses mentioned in the Idiot's Guide. Together, they are powerful.

1 out of 5 stars A dissenting view.......2007-10-07

I'll be the "designated" dissenting view here amongst all of these positive reviewers. This was not my cup of tea. That assuredly has alot to do with my estimation of this book. Above and beyond the rather off-the-wall mysticism and somewhat pseudo-native American spirituality, the editing is horrible. Misspelt words everywhere! I don't care how bad a book is in terms of its content, at least the author and publisher can check the spelling for god's sake! To me, that kind of error says alot about the author and the lack of professionalism in general. I just thought his viewpoint was hokey.

5 out of 5 stars last Cry: native American Prophecies Tales of the End Times.......2000-04-20

I found this book to be incredibly insightful and informitive based completely in a shamanic light. Even those that do not follow this path can gather a lot of meaning from this book in regards to this: We are all from the same place...this earth. All fear and hate based on skin color, orientation, gender, species, etc...is completely futile. If people as a whole would understand themselves, being honest with themselves...I doubt that we as a whole would have any more hate and fear.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful and filled with insight into our own beginnings........1999-01-06

This book resonated with the essence of my very being. It brings remembrance of our beginnings on this planet and in this dimension if one can accept it. It seems as though Robert Ghostwolf has hurried to get the information out and therefore, at times I did not have a full comprehension of the symbols such as the colored serpents. I have only a bit of native American blood and know only a little about the ancient religious beliefs of the people. Call me a crazy if you wish, but the book (for the most part) rang true to the depths of my being, and why not? Is it more outrageous than the stories in the Holy Bible from which I also draw great comfort and truth?

John Hogue, a leading authority on Nostradamian prophecy, turns his analytical skills to the 111 Latin mottoes of Malachy of Ireland, a 12th-century bishop who is said to have predicted the succession of popes from Celestine II to the end of the Catholic church. Hogue integrates prophecy and history like a master fencer wields a rapier and dagger, adding just a touch of wry humor--who else but Hogue would compare Saint Bernard and the 12th-century monastic movement to Elvis Presley and rock 'n' roll? The Last Pope succeeds on many levels: as a comprehensive history of the papacy, as an examination of the prophecy of Saint Malachy, and as an assessment of the history and potential future of Catholicism. --Brian Patterson

Book Description

A new study of the papal prophesies of St. Malachy that reveals the fate of the final Pope . . . and of the Catholic Church.

The 12th century Irish seer St. Malachy prophesied an end to the Roman Catholic Church and predicted the fates of the Popes until Judgment Day. After John Paul II dies only two Popes remain on the Doomsday list . . . will this forbidding prophetic coda of a Catholic apocalypse be fulfilled?

In 1139 St. Malachy set out from Ireland on a harrowing pilgrimage to Rome. On sighting the Eternal City he fell to the ground and began murmuring cryptic Latin phrases, each signifying the future destiny of the Popes.

For four hundred years the manuscript was locked in the labyrinth of the Vatican. On its rediscovery in 1595 it was rejected by the Church authorities as fraudulent but the content of the prophecies remains remarkably and chillingly accurate: to this day 90 per cent have come true.

In examining the context of St. Malachy's life, his pilgrimages and his miracles, John Hogue presents a fascinating account of the fates of the Popes and eight hundred years of Catholic prophecy: including contemporaries, St. Hildegard von Bingen, Joachim de Fiore and Nostradamus, whose vision of the papal succession closely resembles that of St. Malachy.

In this first complete study of the prophecies in almost a hundred years, Hogue brings his expertise to new revelations regarding the authenticity of the mottoes. As the Roman Catholic Church continues to witness an eclipse in papal power this masterly work uncovers the truth about St. Malachy's prophecies and reveals their significance as an account of the papal progression which Vatican policy makers have found too threatening to acknowledge.

1 out of 5 stars Worthless.......2007-06-02

This book is worthless as history. Contains 111 pseudo-biographies of popes tenuously linking them to the prophecies of St. Malachy. The biographies are skewed toward the extreme negative, careful not to mention virtually any positive contribution of any pope cited.

Some of the prophecies are so remote that anyone would fit them. For example, the last Pope, Peter Romanus, the author claims will certainly not choose the name Peter but either his given name will be Peter, or he will have served at some parish named St. Peter's or will have visited a church named St. Peter's. Well, who doesn't that fit?

For John Paul I, the prophecy is "under the half moon" and the author links John Paul I tenuously to references to the moon. But the prophecy is half moon, not moon, of which the author makes no connection. For example, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, near the town of Half Moon Bay. Actually not that close to Half Moon Bay about 15 miles away, but that would be close enough for this author.

More importantly, the author diverges to long sections on unrelated material, such as the prophecies of Nostradamus and selected works of Joachim of Flores. He spends an extended time of these unrelated materials. In essence this book should be about eleven pages long, so he as added the remaining pages as Pope and Catholic bashing filler.

1 out of 5 stars Worst book i ever read!!.......2007-04-02

This is the only book i have ever purchased that i not only thought was horrible, but i also threw away in the garbage (I am not going to resell this filth to someone else). As other commenters have said, this book was an anti-christian rampage, not a book on prophecy. The author basically feels that anything old (traditional) is bad, anything new (secular progressive) is great, and that you must be a moron to believe as people have in the past, now that we are "enlightened." yeah right, things are getting so much better now!! i wanted to read a book on prophecy, not get John Hogue's opinion on the Catholic/Christian Church.

3 out of 5 stars Malachy's Peter the Roman revealed at last?.......2006-03-29

Is Monsignor Pietro Parolin, an official with the Vatican's Roman Curia, destined to be Saint Malachy's prophesied "Petrus Romanus"?

The following might present what is to be the future fulfillment of St. Malachy's prophecy concerning "Peter the Roman."

It is lifted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy_of_the_Popes ...

"Because no number is assigned to Petrus Romanus (Malachy's 112th "pope"), it is possible that (Peter the Roman) may take on the role of the Pope without putting on the robe of the Pope. Under this possible scenario, a catastrophe at the Vatican (perhaps a terrorist attack) could wipe out the top leadership of the Church during either a consistory or a conclave of the College of Cardinals. As a result, with no viable College surviving to elect a new pontiff, this particular scenario would have a surviving official of the Roman Curia succeeding to the top leadership of the Church but not as Pope. Since he would not rise to the Papacy itself but instead would become, in effect, the top caretaker of the Church, he would not need to assume a new papal name such as Peter; thus he would keep the name he has had since his birth in Italy, and that name already would be Peter (or, in Italian, Pietro). Currently (that is, as of March 2006) there is only one such candidate for Petrus Romanus (or Peter the Roman) within the Roman Curia. His name is Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Under-Secretary of State for Relations with States, appointed by Pope John Paul II in 2002 to serve under Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo. A native of Schiavon, Italy, Monsignor Parolin was born in January 1955."

The speculation above seems at least worthy of consideration given:

--Pope Benedict XVI's recent consistory at the Vatican (on 3-24-06) and the expectation that the new pontiff also will hold more consistories in the future.

--The expectation that Pope Benedict is about to streamline the Roman Curia (including forcing Angelo Sodano, the Vatican's Secretary of State and Dean of the College of Cardinals, to retire sometime in April).

--The fact that in 2,000 years no newly-elected Pope has ever had the nerve to take the name of Peter (making it unlikely that there will ever be a Pope Peter II but more likely that Peter the Roman will be a non-Pope who acts as caretaker of the Church).

--Pope Benedict's desire to reach out to the Muslim world.

--The recent bombing by Muslim extremists of a 1,200-year-old mosque's dome in Iraq.

5 out of 5 stars Great insights!!!.......2005-04-22

This book offers great insights on the succession of the pope since its beginning. John Hogue has done indepth research on the subject and offers a comprehensive gathering of St. malachy's prophecies. A great read!!!

5 out of 5 stars Prophecy aside.......It's Philosophy is in arguable...........1998-03-26

First off....I am not a huge fan of spiritual books . Growing up having preachers quote the bible to justify just about any attrocity {forgive my spelling}, tainted my view of spiritual scriptures. I am however a huge fan of philosophy. Though this book is prophetic (and a crazy one at that.....Christ coming back in a spaceship crazy} its philosophy well worth exploring. It encompases all religions and I believe gets to the heart of who we are and why we are here. It is written in lamens terms and does not babble endlessly in obscurity which one often finds when reading both philosophy and spiritual books. Hey.....i was a disenchanted youth who sat around, smoked pot and shunned the rest of the world for its cruelty. If this book can reach the most distant burnout, I guarantee you will thank yourself for reading it.....if only you can find it....and if you do let me know....and please pass it on to a friend. Book Description

In March of 2001, John Hagee published The Battle for Jerusalem, which warned that the escalating conflict in the Middle East would reach American shores and the American people would not be spared from the violence. On September 11, that horrible prediction came true. Attack on America brings that book up to the minute, answering questions that have risen from the tragedy, including: Why has this happened to America? How should America respond? Is there biblical prophecy that forewarned of this attack? Hagee, a respected Middle East scholar, uses his extensive knowledge of current affairs, history, and biblical teachings to craft the comprehensive book on both what has happened and the centuries old-conflict behind it. He also takes a hard look at what this new step in the struggle will mean for America-and the world-in the days and years to come.

5 out of 5 stars Reviews of the Book - or John Hagee?.......2006-09-17

The book was excellent with many accurate facts, if reasearched historically and biblically.

Why did so many opinions above deal with the writer's opinion of John Hagee and secondly the book? Ummmmmmmmmmm?Fundamentalism beliefs in general? Ummmmmmmmmmm?

The book was an interesting read, well presented with many references to contemplate.

Personally, I don't care about anyone's opinion on John Hagee! I'd rather read the publication and form my own opinion about it than hear some preconceived Hagee bashing.

I'd ask why they bought the book in the first place. Was it with an open mind or simply to find fault with the beliefs the writer.

Isn't freedon of religious belief one of our Constitutional rights?

I didn't agree with everything written in The Profet Kahil Gibran, yet it was a book I'd recommend.

Attack On America New York, Jerusalem, And The Role Of Terrorism In The Last Days is a great book - if read with the proper frame of mind.

Buy it.

3 out of 5 stars a tossup.......2006-01-05

Let's see... spend eternity in heaven with the likes of Pastor Hagee, or spend it writhing in hellfire. Sounds like a tossup to me.

1 out of 5 stars Another book by a demagogue.......2005-12-19

"Pastor" Hagee has written another book on a subject in which he apparently has little factual knowledge but lots of passion and prejudice. His skewered reporting on the "facts" of the mid-east conflict are about as one-sided and bigoted as anything out there. It almost seems that there is a competition between fundamentalist Christian leaders in America like Hal Lindsey, Pat Robertson, etc as to who can spread more hate towards Muslims. This book is a predictable read and has been written many times before by the same author and other "Christian" pastors. I guess as long as it makes money and spreads hate and fear, these books will continue to be published.

1 out of 5 stars Same old Hagee Hate and Fear Cash In.......2005-09-18

John Hagee has made alot of Money on preaching about Hate and Fear, guess what? he is at it again. Hagee's very slanted view about terrorism is of course filled with all the fear he could get into this book. His own misguided ideas about terrorism, America and God are filled with his usual fire and brimstone the Boogey man is gonna get you nonsense that he sells so well, actually scaring people with fear of the Devil has made Hagee rich and doesn't look like Hagge has any problem stuffing it in. This man should be writting horror movies for Hollyweird, because he is another guy making a buck on sensationalism.

3 out of 5 stars Can you plagiarize yourself?.......2004-02-08

Attack on America is essentially a re-arranged version of Beginning of the End. If you haven't read Beginning of the End, then this will be an interesting book. But if you've already read it, you'll probably want to pass on this one.

5 out of 5 stars Mainline eschatology.......2000-11-23

This is a beautiful book. Dr. Barclay is the consummate New Testament scholar, and this book is a compilation of topics from his Daily Study Bible series dealing with the subject of the Second Coming of Christ. In this book you will not discover people disappearing from airplanes due to a "rapture" or any of the other sensational fads of the "Left Behind" series; rather, you will be instructed in how Jewish apocalyptic thought combined with early Christians' hope for the second coming. You will learn much about how the symbols (and they are symbols) of the beast, 1,000 yr. reign, coming in clouds, etc. have been traditionally interpreted in mainline seminaries and churches. I find it terribly disappointing that Christians are lured into easy, simplistic, literalistic notions about the Bible's teachings rather than consulting educated yet understandable writings about the Bible such as Dr. Barclay's. As a Presbyterian elder, I am very proud to recommend all of Dr. Barclay's fine books to you with the prayer that they will bless your understanding of the Bible and draw you closer to Christ.

4 out of 5 stars Every American must read pg 205.......2007-06-26

I enjoyed the book, though it may not be for everyone. It was written in 1996, and on pg205 the heading reads, "Prophesies Yet To Be Fulfilled". It begins with this exact quote, "Today, once again, the world is facing a new crisis. This is (now in bold) a war of retaliation against terrorism. (end of bold) A war to save the innocent and to punish the guilty. But who is innocent and who is guilty? I pulled it off my shelf and discovered that a couple days after 9/11. Worth owning for that section alone imho.

3 out of 5 stars Huh?.......2007-04-12

Interesting, but weird. Have an open mind, or don't bother. The politics of the book got me fired up. Some of the mystical content left my jaw hanging open.

4 out of 5 stars From a friend of Chief Dan Evemhema.......2007-04-01

Regardless of writing style, as a Native American woman who practiced her Medicine on Third Mesa in Hopi for years I assure anyone who wishes to find the true Prophesies will find them in this book bearing Dan Evemhema's signature. Strictly for profit books on the subject, however beautifully written would not contain such pure renditions of the Prophecies, as strictly for profit books on the subject are not a part of Hopi Religious Culture. Don't be fooled. The Elders were very aware.

5 out of 5 stars Keep an open mind.......2006-07-13

I was allowed to borrow this book by a friend of mine who met Dan Evehama and was taken under his wing. To those who only read or hear others at "word for word", you will ALWAYS miss the point of ANY discourse, written or spoken. This book is valuable not only for the first ever, first-hand account of this tribe's religious beliefs, but their prophecies and their politics. Those who couldn't get past Mr. Mails' zeal probably wouldn't have listened to Christ, either.

1 out of 5 stars Frank Waters rules, in the matter of Hopi spirituality.......2006-06-08

I like Mails' "Mystic Warriors of the Plains" - it's in a prominent spot on my Southwestern display shelves. Don't bother with Survival Kit - read Frank Waters. "The Book of the Hopi" and "Pumpkinseed Point" are amazing expressions of the Hopi legends and world view, at once spiritual and scholarly. Frank was nominated several times for the Nobel, but never won (judges said he was "too regional" - politics in action).
When you're ready for the full dose of Native American spirituality, married masterfully with the teachings of the likes of Jung and Evans-Wentz, get "Mexico Mystique: The Coming Sixth World of Consciousness." It's a challenging read, but if you're not a dilettante, and want to look past the surface of NA spirituality, it's huge. For those reviewers who want something to live their lives by, it has a serious message, with prediction attached.

Prof. Price collected a lot of important material about the struggle for the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. He is dealing with the history from jewish and moslem side and shows the big problem of the fight for the Temple Mount. Whoever wants to understand what is going on in the israel-arab conflict should read that book to get an impression what is the story behind the headlines in the media. Prof. Price wrote his book as a christian and shares with the readers his view of the prophecy of the bible. Even if someone doesn't accept his interpretations of the biblical scriptures everyone will have in his book a great pool of important informations to this sensitive place. Great are the interviews with leading archaeologist, religious and polital leaders on both sides. So one gets first hand information from the people involved in the conflict.
