5 out of 5 stars This Book Changed My Life!!!!.......2007-04-25

The first time I read this book, I read it under the cover of 'The Lost Secret of the New Covenant'. I wept and cried with joy as I finally realized for the first time the depths of God's love for me. Understanding the Blood Covenant that we have with Jesus Christ has built my faith like no other teaching. I am so thankful to God that it is back in print, I don't care what name it is being published under. If you are sick to death of religion and all it's narrow minded legalism and want to know true freedom, then get this book.

5 out of 5 stars power of the blood covenant.......2007-03-19

the book is very interesting and provides details about God's covenant with man.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book!.......2007-03-13

This is an amazing resource for anyone interested in the concept of covenant underlying the whole of scripture. It is well written, insightful and freeing in its concentration on what God has done for mankind. Excellent book -- one I will give to others and keep on hand in my personal library for years to come.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book about mafia life in general and Philly/NJ mob.......2004-08-12

Told through the eyes of mobster George Fresolone "Blood Oath" is a blow by blow account of life with wiseguys and gangsters. Fresolone grows up in New Jersey and gravitates toward gamblers and wiseguys. An astute gambler, George is quick to scam a buck and start a sports gambling book. He is noticed by wiseguy Patty Specs, a mobster connected to the Scarfo crime family, and becomes his driver. Soon he is part of the New Jersey crew of the Philadelphia Mob and in time beomes a made member himself. These scenes in the book are especially vivid as Fresolone gives a birds-eye view of what it was like to grow up in New Jersey and how one becomes connected to the Mob. In those days they came looking for you because they saw you could earn and had talent.

Once George becomes connected his life starts to change. He gets pinched and does a couple of years in prison. While there his old crew ignores his wife won't pay her money George is owed. When George gets out he is facing heavy jail time with one more arrest so he contacts the Feds and agrees to wear a wire against his crew. Not only does he pick up his crew but he deals with many other representatives of other families in New Jersey including the Gambinos, the Genevese, the Colombos, and the DeCavalcantes. On top of that recently imprisoned Nicky Scarfo sends his son up to New Jersey for protection after he is gunned down in a Philly restaurant. George is responsible for "The Kid" and is privy to the desperate attempt of Scarfo to keep a hold on his crime family from prison.

Told with a wonderful first person narration by Fresolone the book succeeds in conveying the harrowing and tense life of a wiseguy in the 80's and 90's. It also succeeds in illustrating how and why men go into the life in the first place and the problems they have with their wives and siblings and friends and neighbors who are not part of "that" world. On top of that it is an excellent breakdown of mafia politics in New Jersey and is a first rate continuation of the trials and tribulations of the Philadelphia Mob. It bridges the gap between "Blood and Honor" and "Goodfella Tapes" with a perspective from a different end of that family. Wholeheartedly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars What is really going on in the mob?.......2003-02-20

What if you are a boy growing up with your dad doing illegal gambling, and working with the mob. well in the book Blood Oath by George Fresolone. George goes through the book and explains to you how his life in the mob started out and how he became one of the mob families gambling buddy. He explains to you who he worked for and what he did for his boss. George gives us great detail in how the mob was formed and how it was ran. My opinion I believe you should definately buy Blood Oath, because it's a book you could read moer than once. You can certainly expect alot of info about what they did, and why they did it. Also he explains to you how he actually came around in helping the law. The author likes to give his info in large paragraphs to give more detail to everything.

5 out of 5 stars The best mob story I ever read................1999-03-16

This is the best mob strory i ever read, it took a great deal of courage for George Fresolone to do what he did, i hope some day to see this story on the big screen..............

5 out of 5 stars Thor: Blood Oath .......2007-07-02

The best Thor story I've ever read. In fact, one of the best comic book stories I've ever read. A near perfect blend of adventure, myth, fantasy and humor. Several LOL moments occur between Thor and the Warriors Three, and more than any other Thor book, Blood Oath gives you a real sense of Thor's character. By denying Thor the full use of his hammer in this story he is brought out in greater detail. A very interesting, if somewhat unexplored, connection is made between myth, science and faith that will not leave the "Christian" comic book reader cold (as many current comic books can).
The artwork is perfectly suited to the materlal and is full of character and detail. I cannot imagine any Thor or fantasy fan being disappointed with Blood Oath.

4 out of 5 stars Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03

A more than averagely interesting Babylon 5 book, as the setting for
this novel is, for the large part, on the planet of the Narns, or their
    homeworld, as they call it.

If you are interested in more Narn information, and why they are
like they are and what happened to them, this is the place to look.

4 out of 5 stars Not Bad, but Not Great either.......2007-06-17

Blood Oath is the third of the original nine novels. The book is set during the second season prior to events in "The Coming of Shadows."
Ambassador G'Kar receives a death threat in the form of a Shon'Kar, a traditional Narn blood oath. Subsequently, Ivanova, Garibaldi and Na'Toth travel to the Narn Homeworld for the ambassador's funeral. Meanwhile, back on Babylon 5, as well as on the ship en route, people get the feeling that G'Kar might still be alive. Could this be what it seems or is there more than meets than eye?
John Vornholt makes use of existing B5 plots and subplots regarding the Narns and G'kar in particular, on which he bases this novel.
The book is well written and presented, and the reader feels that they have been transported to the Narn Homeworld.
The information conveyed about the Narns' home planet as well as G'kar's rapid rise to the Third circle is interesting and never mentioned before in such detail.
Ivanova's handling of a ride on a Narn lift, on page 150, was enlightening and amusing at the same time: "A second later, Ivanova was close to screaming after what seemed like a sheer drop to the bottom of the shaft. Her stomach churned, her ears ached until they popped, and she could see Na'Toth yawning. The lift finally began to slow, and it deposited them gently at the bottom level of the canyon."
On page 71, the author provides for an excellent description of Narn courting:
"The flower of Narn womanhood is the thorn. I cannot wait to return to the land of thorny women."
"Under the thorn is the softest fruit."
Finally, on pages 224-225, the author foreshadows G'Kar's transformation from being bitter, vengeful, and aggressive to becoming compassionate, altruistic, and noble.
On the downside, the novel is at times much too slow to the point of actually being bland and boring. Moreover, regarding the plot and the main characters' actions, they seemed forced and unconvincing.
Al Vernon was simply uninteresting and the twist at the end was as lame as they get, though the finishing words exchanged between the two ambassadors was highly enjoyable.
In short, with the series over, thank goodness for the novels. 3.5 Stars
    More novels please...

    4 out of 5 stars Jhaeman's Review.......2006-12-22

Blood Oath involves a plot by G'Kar to fake his own death in order to evade assassins. The other B5 characters receiving significant attention are Garibaldi and Ivanova. The story, while mildly interesting, is not as fast-moving as the first two B5 novels. There is an interesting look at the Narn Homeworld, so G'Kar fans should pick this one up.

3 out of 5 stars Good story grafted into B5 universe.......2003-03-09

As I type this there have been about 15 novels published that are set in the B5 universe. This is one of the first nine, a series initially released by Dell but now being rolled out, one by one, in rerelease by Del Rey's Ballantine series.

"Blood Oath" takes place mostly on the Narn homeworld, a place not often seen during the TV series. It is set somewhere around the end of season 1, during which time the show had focused on the species' recent history of war with the Centauri and the hatred between the two worlds. The author can therefore be forgiven for painting the Narns as barbarians rather than the sophisticated spiritual culture we see from them later on as the primary Narn character G'Kar developed and grew.

And the story told here is really a good one. The images painted by the author are often vivid and memorable, and the story believable and easy to follow. He seems to fall down in the action sequences, though, to me, as I often didn't feel the intensity of such scenes.

But the real problem with this book is the characterizations of familiar B5 characters. Again, it was early in production of the show, so we now know these individuals far better than anyone but series creator J. Michael Straczynski did at the time, but it's really jarring to see known and beloved characters saying things that are totally out of voice from what we would expect, in terms of phrases, relationships, idioms, etc.

Ultimately it feels like the author had a great story and, when given a contract to write a B5 book, slotted the series characters into a general outline he already had, adapting his outline somewhat to fit a vision that otherwise works well. He is clearly not as familiar with the characters as one would like.

It's worth reading because it truly is well written as a novel, but falls far short as a part of the B5 universe otherwise.

    4 out of 5 stars A good story.......2000-04-14

I had to admit from Vornholt's point of view, the Narns are especially easy to compare with the Star Trek's Klingons. Of course wwhen you read the book, the Narns remind you of Klingons. But it is quite entertaining. I was hooked.

3 out of 5 stars Not up to the standards of later offerings by Morrell.......2007-09-14

David Morrell's later works are usually tension-filled thrillers that feature bad guys pursuing the good guys while the good guys try to thwart the nefarious plot of the evildoers.

This one had all of those elements but Morrell's writing style is not quite perfected in this early novel. Sometimes he had me, other times...no.

I would seriously recommend just about any other Morrell book that came after this one before reading this one.

    Final grade: C+.

3 out of 5 stars Hell bent on revenge. Not survival........2004-05-31

I read this, wanting to love it. While I will check out more of David Morrell, I didn't look at this as a novel of survival, but of hell on wheels revenge, and with no consequences. The setting in France was awesome. Takes you to a different place in the world. I thought it was a good attempt of a "kill or be killed" kind of book, but after awhile, I just didn't see it in that light at all.

So, in closing I can say that I'll give Morrell another shot. I loved the Rambo movies and would love the chance to read "First Blood" or something that will stick out so I can further read his material. In saying that, the Rambo movies were also movies motivated by revenge, but it wasn't the point Morrell was trying to get across.

It was hard for me to give this only 3 stars. But as a man who makes up his mind and sticks to his guns, that's all I can give it. Maybe next time.

4 out of 5 stars Morrell Is great.......2002-04-08

This was the 1st of many Morrell books that I have read. This book made me want to read his other works such as Desperate Measures and I am currently reading First Blood. In this book you don't want to miss a thing and you are alwasys thinking. Morrell is great at making the hunter become the hunted. You can feel for Houston. He was told his whole life by his mother about his great war hero father and when he goes to pay his respects to his father people are trying to kill him and succeed in killing his wife. This is a book I would recomend to anyone.

3 out of 5 stars Horrifying at times.......2002-03-05

...This book has it's moments, it starts out well and keeps your attention for awhile. In the end it starts to unravel the best moments are the groin stabbing demise of one of the villians, and the other good death scene is another villian goes plummeting of a cliff girating and sreaming...

5 out of 5 stars First Morrell book I read-and why I still read only his!.......2002-02-12

This was the first book I have read from David Morrell and this book is a prime example of why I continue to read his novels. Very original and easy to read-but hard to put down and dissapointing when you do! I loved the charecters, but most of all I loved the ending! It leaves you dazzled and left thinking! David you have done great again! Buy this book!

2 out of 5 stars Hi-larious hijinks with the Neo-Nazis.......2006-12-21

I bought this for a laugh, and was not sorry I did so. To judge from some of the other reviews, some people took this seriously, but it's patently false ... something that doesn't need saying, as by now almost everyone knows that Simpson is guilty. Still, its well done, in that the story is twisted around to fit the known facts. A curious book that I'm glad to have in my collection, for novelty value alone.

4 out of 5 stars ONE FOR CONSPIRACY BUFFS.......2005-11-07

I stumbled across this book in an Afro-American bookstore. A customer who had just heard a review of this book on the radio pointed it out to me. I snatched the book up because (in my experience) books like this disappear from distribution shortly after being published.

I'm one of those who believe in "alternative" politics and history. If you are a conspiracy buff, you should add this one to your collection. You may have questions about was the authors' theory, but this book still raises disturbing questions and possibilities.

3 out of 5 stars TRUTH OR HOAX?.......2002-02-13

Sophisticated frame of O.J. Simpson or clever hoax? That is the question which needs to be answered by examining this detailed and revolting account of the murders culminating in the trial of the century.
The devil is in the details, and there is much to discuss in Skinner's story.
Let's begin with the surveillance of Nicole in January 1994. It is known that Bill Wasz was stalking Nicole, and stole Paula Barbieri's vehicle during this period. Wasz was arrested on January 31, 1994 in possession of Barbieri's vehicle, and a notebook containing info on Nicole's activities. Yet Wasz could not be "The Enforcer" because he was in prison following his arrest. Subsequently, it has been reported that the author has spent considerable time interviewing Wasz in prison.
There is no mention of Nicole's phone conversation with Faye Resnick on the night of her murder, in which Sydney Simpson has said that her mom was fighting and crying with her "best friend" on the phone. Why is this ommitted in Skinner's story?
The most astonishing event of Skinner's story is the witness to the murders that night, Nicole's mysterious lover who arrived at 10:12 PM, and fled out the back gate at 10:41 PM. Skinner says there is "something familiar" about this black man. It could not be Marcus Allen, who left on a flight out of the country at about the same time. My suspicions rest on Ron Shipp, who is believed to have harboured a romantic interest in Nicole, and who may have learned of the murders before they became public knowledge. Dominick Dunne has revealed that one of his confidantes was contacted by Shipp in the pre-dawn hours of June 13, 1994 with knowledge of the murders.
There is one glaring error by the author. On page 294, Worth says that Stephen Singular was contacted by an informant claiming inside knowledge of the crime on April 25, 1995. In fact, Singular was contacted by his informant in the summer of 1994, many months before Skinner broke his silence.
While it is true that Singular's book does corroborate Skinner's story, it is disappointing that neither book has generated much media discussion. Overall, Skinner tells a compelling and convincing account of the murders, but there are still some questions to be resolved.

4 out of 5 stars Chilling account of "execution" of Nicole Simpso/Ron Goldman.......1996-09-18

"Blood Oath" [The conspiracy to assassinate Nicole Brown Simpson] by Steven Worth and Carl Jaspers The book asserts that an elite team* of white supremacists- neo Nazi's** planned and executed an elaborate "psyop" to assassinate Nicole Simpson, frame O.J., discredit the LAPD and LASD, and generally discredit the American judicial system. The authors are contacted anonymously by one of the conspirators who remains anonymous and is known as "Skinner". All other conspirators get nick names in the story. He then dictates over numerous calls on public phones to Worth over the Summer of '95 how the deed was planned and then done. The book is a compelling and a very scary account that more closely matches the known facts/timelines etc.... The authors (Worth) in a phone interview claimed that the book is all true and was afraid for his life as was his informer "Skinner". * The team is depicted to be made up of former staff level American officers, ex Special forces types, ex- law enforcement , counter insurgency types etc.. ** called the C.A.U.S.E. 5 out of 5 stars Blood Oath.......2000-12-24

if you are one of the few people who have read this book when it was first released under the title "The Initiation" then you know you are in for a good who done in mystery.

The pace of the story does go at a good clip and does lag in some parts but it quickly picks up pace again so you don't lose interest in the story.

The surprising ending is a shocker but as a 'who's the bad guy' type mystery it is well written and keeps the reader guessing.

5 out of 5 stars Johnstone's Blood Oath - a fast pace ride of revenge........2000-04-26

If you have read any of William W. Johnstone's books, you know he has a keen sense of humor and a sharp wit. In Blood Oath be prepared for his humor to be slimmed down to just one character: Detective Lieutenant Joe Davis. Johnson uses Joe Davis to take his readers on a fast pace, wild, and at times gut retching, ride through the brutal murder investigations.

Without giving away the major plot, Blood Oath is a super charged runaway train - packed with sexual tension, over tones and graphic detail of rape, murder and multination; all in the name of revenge.

If/when you read past the graphic details the true art of writing can be seen. Johnstone not only has a way of making words paint full color pictures, but he is a true master of "hook `em - play `em & keep `em reading."
