Yes, this book is about taking Getaways
with your Girlfriends, both extravagant and
short "evening, in the neighborhood"
getaways - but it is also a book about living
a more extraordinary life.
There are a couple truths I have discovered in
my own life and travels with girlfriends that
spoke to me as soon as I casually thumbed
through this compelling book.
The first is: "Road trips can save you big bucks
in therapy." AMEN to that!
The second is: "Before going on a roadtrip,
practice calling shotgun in a loud, persuasive voice."
(I loved that one!)

Having spent a lot of time looking for information on imaginative & fun (and sometimes luxury) travel with kids, I can tell you that this is a really unique book. It is comprehensive, carefully researched and well written with loads of practical tips. Some 'travel with kids' books might as well just be bland advertising copy, this one really provides good editorial content, with positive and critical comments. It is a pleasure to read and we will use it for a long time. Fodor's should publish more of these for other parts of the US/world.
An Investment for the Traveling Family!.......2000-05-31
I loved this book and would recommend it to any family wanting to travel in the northeastern United States. The writers offer tips and reviews on places of interest, resorts, and campgrounds in a wide range of prices. In fact, we have visited some of those places and found a brand new vacation prospect in Lake George which we will be trying out this summer! Definitely one of the most informative travel books on the market today -- entertaining even if you do not go to these places.

Very useful book for locals and visitors. We liked the way it gave us recommended age groups and prices. We can now plan ahead places to visit within and on the way to our next holiday area. We have also used it for planning field trips from the school into San Francisco. Easy to use and enjoyable to read.

Little information besides lodging.......2000-07-03
The reviews of bed and breakfast inns are good. We stayed at two of the properties listed during our honeymoon and the information on them is reasonably accurate. The photographs in the book are nice and give a better idea of the look af the inn.
With a title like "Weekends for two" I was expecting more information on dining and other activities in the areas. In many of the towns listed in this book there are great little romantic restaurants, trails for a walk, live theater, small wineries with amazing views, but there is hardly any information on this in the book. You may want to complement this book with a good guide that has more information on daytime activities. Or if you want just one book, go for the latest edition of the Best places to kiss in Northern California.

If you are interested only on the BB and places away from the touristy cities, you can find some interesting places where you may not heard of. Some of BB are kind in the high price range, like high $200 or $300.

They are exactly the way the author describes them and they are all in beautiful surroundings! This book is an excellent reference for anyone who wants a truly amazing Southwestern experience.

This is the kind of job i would like to have: travel around the USA writing about posh accomodations. Not bad! I liked this book because it is very clear, with wonderful photographs, and what sounds like honest advice. The only thing i think is missing is an index by price. That would make the book truly perfect! But for someone who is planning a trip to the SW, this is a very valuable reference.

Basic book with little real information.......2007-02-13
This book in mostly just an advertisement for the hotels and B&Bs included therein. No helpful tips about when to travel, what sites to see. I was looking to get some ideas for my honeymoon in New England but I will be returning this ASAP. A major disappointment. You will do better with a basic Frommer's or Fodor's guide and some websites.
