Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Book Description
An eloquent retelling of the story behind one of the twentieth century's miracle advances the transistor. On December 16, 1947, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain, physicists at Bell Laboratories, jabbed two electrodes into a sliver of germanium. The power coming out of the germanium was one hundred times stronger than what went in. With that, the transistor was born and the information age began. It is hard to imagine any device more crucial to modern life than the microchip and the transistor from which it sprang. Every waking hour people take the vast benefits of these for granted in cellular phones, ATMs, computers, radios, TV sets, fax machines, and thousands of other electronic devices. Without a doubt, the transistor is the most important artifact of the twentieth century and the "nerve cell" of our electronic age. The Bell Labs transistor team was headed by William Shockley who shared the Nobel Prize with Bardeen and Brattain. Eventually Schockley went on to form the first semiconductor company in what would become Silicon Valley. Above all, Crystal Fire is a tale of the human factors in technology pride and jealousy coupled with scientific aspirations that ignited the greatest technological explosion in history.
Customer Reviews:
Engaging history, even years later.......2007-08-05
Nobody can claim that the history of the transistor and related technology has become obsolete in the ten years since the book was published. Oh, no, the transistor and its offspring are even more integrated into the world, and humans are even more dependent than ever. In the meantime, however, the giant figures of the genesis of the transistor and the integrated circuit continue to recede into history. They haven't stuck in peoples' minds, as have the gang of physicists from the early 20th century (Einstein, Bohr, etc.). In fact, Einstein and the others are still compelling enough that they get another telling here, building the knowledge base needed by the solid-state team in the 1940s.
Thus, "Crystal Fire" is a valuable account of a critical event in science and engineering history that should be of interest to many people who have never come near a vacuum tube or a discrete transistor, or have only vaguely heard of the "transistor radio" that made Sony.
The authors emphasize the three Nobel winners and how events led to their working together at Bell Labs, surrounded by an exceptional collection of talent. From there, the story crisply describes the false starts and path to Bardeen and Brattain's invention, and Shockley's subsequent development of the junction transistor. Plenty of credit is given to the others who contributed on the chemistry and engineering sides, for example, not to mention the wise leadership of Bell itself. The transistor is a truly an excellent example of synergistic discovery and development, which makes for a more attractive story.
The authors showed a good balance between a technical history of no depth and scientific detail that required a specialist. There is no math, and complex phenomena get a nice summary. I honestly don't know how they could have gone much simpler, given that we are talking about solid-state physics here. Readers can always skim some parts that exceed their understanding.
After the invention, the authors follow multiple threads. One is the disruption of the R&D group by Shockley's ego and incompetent leadership, which continues into Shockley's post-BTL career as the "Moses" of Silicon Valley. Another is the rapid advancement of solid-state physics and circuit development, once the concept had been proven. Another is some reporting on Bardeen and Brattain in the aftermath, but that story is overshadowed by the dominant personality and whirlwind of Shockley's life. Part of that is Bardeen's movement away from the field and into superconductivity, so he really wasn't a major player once the transistor took off.
Co-author Hoddeson wrote "True Genius", a bio of John Bardeen that is outstanding (I probably liked it better than "Crystal Fire"), but with more focus on Bardeen himself. There is obviously overlap. Perhaps I was merely partial to that theme, being an Illinois grad whose time in Urbana overlapped with Professor Bardeen's.
True Genius: The Life and Science of John Bardeen.......2002-10-25

Hoddeson & Daitch, "True Genius" (Bardeen)
Our university bookstore (809 S. Wright St.) kindly informed me of your listing of Hoddeson and Daitch's John Bardeen biography, "True Genius," and, of course, I read the brief "Publishers Weekly" review, as well as the more cryptic but more positive comments of others. From the very first sentence I knew that the "Publishers Weekly" review would be superficial, and maybe even wrong, which then is of what help to a reader and potential book customer? Living in the U.S. democracy, how can we not be curious and not read about the Founders? Similarly, how can we be immersed in all the new electronics (computers, cell phones, DVD and CD machines, MRI's, digital machinery---in fact, Si here, Si there, Si everywhere) and not be curious about how all this happened, what sort of ingenius mind, or minds, might be at the beginning of it all? Imagine the calamity on the planet if the transistor vanished for a day. Does that help in understanding the scale of a Bardeen, of "True Genius"! I knew John Bardeen for 40 years (as my teacher, friend, colleague) and still I learned something further from Hoddeson and Daitch and the material they unearthed for "True Genius", a fascinating biography (a different kind of story). Hoddeson and Daitch do not disappoint in their biography of Bardeen and in elucidating over many chapters his kind of genius, which "Publishers Weekly" doesn't seem to appreciate. Genius is a diamond of many facets, and Hoddeson and Daitch reveal a Bardeen facet. It isn't the last chapter of "True Genius" that matters. It's the whole book, all the chapters, that reveal an American hero---if you will, a genius.

Great Book - A Technology Must Read.......2000-08-14
This book is very well written, and does a good job of telling the history of the invention of the transistor. The book focuses on the technological aspects of the invention, but also does a great job of telling the story of the personalities, and (now multi-million dollar) businesses that were involved with the invention.
Science as Thriller.......1999-02-06
Who would have thought a book about the invention of the transistor could be so compelling? And yet here it is. The authors tell two parallel stories, one about the inventors, and one about the developments in physics that led to, and followed from, the invention of the transistor. The interplay between pure science and technology has seldom been explained as well.
I'd put this book alongside "The Invention That Changed The World" as the two best popular histories of science an technology of the decade.
Original research for a change.......1998-01-11
The authors created this book the old fashioned way with in depth interviews and research into unpublished materials. This makes it particularly interesting and credible. From discussion of the original patents to Bell Labs office politics and Shockley's diary, this book is a treasure trove of info.

The microchip at the heart of your computer is a complex device, but its historical origins go back to one crude-looking little gadget made up of a wedge of plastic, a strip of gold foil, a rough-hewn slab of crystallized germanium, some wires, and a bent-up paper clip. Slapped together by two Bell Labs experimenters on December 16, 1947, this invention later came to be known as the transistor, and it is the ancestor of every microchip in operation today.
Crystal Fire tells the story of the creation and development of that gadget, demonstrating that very little about the transistor's invention was as simple it seemed. The device put together on that December day was no idle experiment, but the product of decades of high-level research--and the first major practical application of the esoteric quantum mechanics that had emerged from European particle physics at the beginning of the century.
Just as fascinating as the scientific background, though, is the story of the brains and events behind the invention of the transistor. The collaboration and rivalry of the three men credited with the invention--the brilliant John Bardeen, the likable Walter Brattain, and the appallingly driven William Shockley--hold center stage. However, authors Riordan and Hoddeson make it clear that the unique organizational resources of Bell Labs, the furious course of the war effort, and the random twists and turns of historical accident played equally important roles. The saga makes for a gripping read and a crash course in the dizzying complexity of information-age invention. --Julian Dibbell
Book Description
On December 16, 1947, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain, physicists at Bell Laboratories, jabbed two electrodes into a sliver of germanium. The power flowing from the germanium far exceeded what went in; in that moment the transistor was invented and the Information Age was born. No other devices have been as crucial to modern life as the transistor and the microchip it spawned, but the story of the science and personalities that made these inventions possible has not been fully told until now. Crystal Fire fills this gap and carries the story forward. William Shockley, Bell Labs' team leader and co-recipient of the Nobel Prize with Brattain and Bardeen for the discovery, grew obsessed with the transistor and went on to become the father of Silicon Valley. Here is a deeply human story about the process of invention-including the competition and economic aspirations involved-all part of the greatest technological explosion in history.

Nice try but needs more work.......2006-12-16
The transistor is essential to modern life in America. Without its development I would not have been able to leave this review today. This is a look at how it developed and how it led to the start of the modern computer. My one complaint about this book is that it becomes far too bogged down in scientific jargon and lost the social history as it did so. The business discussion is mediocre at best especially given the delicate relations that occurred to fight over this chip. A much needed book but executed poorly.
A great read.......2006-08-18
Reading this book from the perspective of a retired history teacher and an amateur radio hobbyist might explain a bit of the 5 star rating. However, the book is well researched and well written.
I would say that anyone with a passing interest in how we got into this age of technology and information would find the book a great read!
Excellent technology history.......2006-05-06
A thoroughly informative and engaging look at the development of semiconductor electronics. A bit of physics background will help you get through some of the discussions of atoms and energy levels, but even if you skim this material, you'll better understand how semiconductor physics came about and how practical products left the lab and became the microprocessor, memory, and other chips that power "appliances" we take for granted. All too often we think of inventions as springing forth in one burts of energy. This book shows the slow and not-always-steady developments that involved more people that you can imaging. I recommend this book highly to engineers and non-engineers alike.
A Must Read for Engineers.......2003-07-07
This is an excellent book on the history of the transistor. Not exactly light reading, but still an enjoyable read. As an engineer it is wonderful to learn the history of the one of the most important inventions of recent times. Really a well written book.
Solid state is not a reference to California........1999-05-13
Who invented the transitor? The answer to this question is in the book. What is the transitor? The answer is in the book. Understanding the answer is another, more personal, matter. Why was the transitor invented in the US, when it was? This facinating question is well explored in the book. One may be surprised to see the names of Hitler, Einstein, Salvador Dali and Picasso mentioned in the same breath with the inventors. Which co-inventor of the transistor went on to win a second Noble prize for superconductivity? The book does not play favorites among the three co-inventors but the work of John Bardine on the transistor and superconductivity is reason enough for the biography fan to read this book instead of watching the biography of the "Hamburger Barrons" on TV. The story is not an "easy read." But cheer up, there are great pictures.

Solid Pournelle.......2005-10-18
Jerry Pournelle is one of the more qualified people writing science fiction nowadays - he's done a lot of things, knows a lot, and seems to have a network of contacts rivalling what Winston Churchill had in the `30s.
Like most of the near-greats, he's written a couple of brilliant books that made his name, and a lot more that aren't *quite* at that level. Birth of Fire is one of the latter - it's better than what most SF authors do, but it's not up to Pournelle's best. Which still places it above 90% of published SF.
Other reviews have summed the plot up well enough: intelligent but no-direction teenager is sent to Mars as a convict and gets involved in a revolution. Simple enough plot, but the skill is in the execution. Pournelle draws economic and political relationships well, but doesn't waste words on unnecessary detail. There are authors who like extensive description, to "stop and smell the roses"; Pournelle isn't one of them.
The plot moves fast and the action scenes are as good as anything Pournelle has done in his better-known military fiction - which is to say, very good indeed. There's an ingenious and nicely-executed scene involving the immobilization of a solar-powered transport; the combat in general, both strategic and tactical, is well-handled. Pournelle seems to have really done his research, which is common enough, and *thought* about how these details apply to tactical and political situations, which is less common.
Not quite up to the standard of Lucifer's Hammer or the Falkenberg's Legion books, but as good as anything else written by one of today's best living SF authors.
One of the Best Mars Colonization Novels Ever.......2001-11-08
I had not read any of Jerry Pournelle's other books, when I picked this up years ago. It is an amazingly good yarn dealing with the now cliched notion of the colonization of Mars. The lead protagonist Garrett is given the option to stay in jail in overcrowded earth or get shipped out to Mars on a work detail.
He opts for the latter and gets involved in a revolution to free Mars from the oppressive multinational corporations back on earth. I read this book at least thrice! Great writing. The author moves the action at a good pace. The book felt very believable.
Good story - classic Pournelle.......2001-08-03
After I read 'Janissaries' I had a 'Pournelle reading frenzy' and this is one of the novels I bought as well.
I like it, it's quite classic. Boy gets to mars 'cause he doesn't have much of a future back home. When arriving on Mars it seems he won't have much of a future there either. But the locals help him out and suddenly he finds himself caught up in a revolution...
classic, not the most complex plot ever, but a good read never the less.
A juvenile in the Heinlein tradition.......2000-08-30
Garrett Pittson is a youth without a future in a Washington slum. After a fight between gangs he is convicted to exile and slave labour on Mars. There he is picked up by the Marsmen, emigrants and former convicts turned settlers outside the cities and mines governed by companies - and lands in the midst of a revolution in growing. Allegiance to new-won friends and love to a settler's daughter makes him join the revolution and together with the revolution the Project - using nukes to make volcanoes spew out enough water and gases to strengthen Mars atmosphere sufficiently for humans to live without space suits on Mars. Some fight scenes of the Falkenberg quality. All in all a lot like Heinlein's juveniles - in atmosphere as well as in message.
solid but unexceptional Pournelle.......2000-05-24
Birth of Fire is an entertaining read with all of the Pournelle elements you would expect. The character of the young protagonist is developed nicely. The plot is solid and moves along well; helped by some interesting military tactics. The Martian setting is very well developed.
However, the book doesn't have the same spark as most other Pournelle novels. The biggest disappointment is that only the main character is developed enough to make the reader care about his fate. We never really learn enough about the thoughts and motivations of the girl who is one of the two supporting characters to become caught up in her story. The Martian colonial society also has a few small but nagging inconsistancies.

Controversial and Insightful.......2007-06-15
As the author, I should share what this book contains in a further review here. Written as one who left an organization called "The Way International", I have written a book, perhaps one of THE books debating much of their doctrine and recommend it to those who are considering joining or who have left. The book begins by trying to find the REAL reason behind the Fall of Man, take on the extreme-reaching theory of the "Seed of the Serpent" in which some believe the devil can also make people "born again" of himself, and discuss the Unforgivable Sin. It continues to debate why I believe born-again Christians cannot be possessed by the devil or demons, discusses the Foreknowledge of God, time travel, and debates the name of Lucifer being attached to the devil, and reasons why the Lucifer in the Bible is actually referring to something else. The book continues to explain what the "Lake of Fire" really is historically and debates why Hell is different from our own perceived ideas and theology. The Wise Men are discussed and explained how they came to know the "star" of Jesus Christ. The term "cherubim" is explained and ancient ways of looking at the heavens and how they pertained to scripture are revealed. So-called biblical "contradictions" are explained in the records of those crucified with Christ, where and when Peter did his denials and the time of those denials, and discusses the Woman Caught in Adultery and why it is out of context in John, yet really is a true story. Finally, the Da Vinci Code is debated and the term "Lamb of the First Year" is explained, which puts the Da Vinci Code to nothing other than fiction. With scriptural and subject indexes to aid in your search for subject and verse material, you may use the Reference Index for a quality search for excellent material.

Product Description
This book integrates psychological, spiritual and pragmatic approaches to the mastery of life. It focuses on relationship, leadership and self-esteem. We know that what motivates our thoughts, feelings, words and actions is less than 10% at the level of the conscious mind. The driving forces in our lives do not exist at the surface of our minds, where we make our every day, 'conscious' decisions. What truly moves us lies buried deep within and we must become familiar with that shadowy underworld from where our real choices and actions are being motivated.
In order to get into our personal 'underworld', where the real work must be done, we must go far beyond intellectualism, positive thinking, and 're-programming'. We have found that the practices of yoga, ranging from breathwork and postures to meditation and self-enquiry, are the most effective means of diving deep within the unconscious. As we follow the paths of yoga to the depths of the ocean of our own existence, we inevitably encounter the many shadowy forms of the unconscious lurking below the surface. It is by encountering, embracing and then releasing these submerged thought-forms and undigested feelings and sensations, that we will ultimately attain our 'pearl of great price', Self-realization.
This book emphasizes the use of the breath as a potent means for exploring and clearing the unconscious. When integrated with an ability to recognize and understand how our negative, self-defeating 'patterns' operate, progress can be remarkably rapid and enduring.
Finally, particular attention is given to the use of 'action' as a means to self-knowledge, self-healing and self-transformation. It is in the heat of action that we actually discover how we are put together and identify where we are weak and where we are strong. Breaking through our resignation and stepping out onto the playing field of life is accomplished in the field of action, where leadership resides.

Recommended and Remarkable.......2006-05-07
I see sunny days even when it rains, since attending Open Heart seminar by Lyse LeBeau and Duart Maclean and few months later I got their book.
At 19 I left home and joined the military to put a distance between myself and my family to try to forget the incest I lived. At one point I became depressed and started analyzing my life. I did not understand how this kind of situation could have happened to me. After reading the book, it was a like a light bulb that went off. This was a life changing moment because after I realized how the incest was created in my life, I was able to take responsibility for it and deal with it. Since dealing with this situation, my relationship with my whole family has changed. I was so inspired by my family's muscial talent I supported them to create a music CD. I had forgotten the love and support I had for my family.
Finally a book that is REALLY transformational.......2006-03-11
