a pretty good teen book.......2005-02-14
honey, cinnamon, rose and ice all are talented indiviuals in the arts and have been accepted int ms. stenksy's school to polish off their talents before hitting the big time. but all is not as it seems as this exclusive school. they sense that they are being watched all the time, they have no privacy and they are enouraged not to have any outside relationships.
but the house holds more buried secrets than the students know and to get to the bottom of it all may well cost them their lives and/or careers.
this is not one of the best vc andrews books. it does not have the same tense moments in it and the ending kind of leaves you disappointed as if the author ran out of ideas and wrapped it up quickly. not the quality you normally expect.
Hooray For Cheese!.......2004-06-30
This book is very cheesy. If you don't like cheesy books, I'd avoid this one if I were you. Like many Virginia Andrews books (the originals and the new ones), it is pure cheddar.
Personally, I don't mind cheese as long as it's well-plotted cheese with interesting characters, and this book definitely doesn't let me down here (on the character front, Cinnamon has become a goth, which is funny). It has a plot that, generally speaking, isn't lifted from one of the other books (they do that sometimes when they think you aren't looking), and although the narrator can be a bit of a whinger at times, the other characters more than make up for that.
If you've read the other mini-series, you will know that it might be best to skip the first four books (which are mainly about introducing characters rather than having a plot) and go onto the main book. For all three miniseries, I bought all five books. Learn from my mistakes.
This isn't exactly as good as the main books from "Orphans" and "Wildflowers," but it's nearly there. The ending is a bit anti-climactic, which is annoying, but since the rest of the story is brilliant I won't nit-pick. Read this book and bask in the glory of cheese.
Mysteries in the mansion.......2003-08-16
I enjoyed this book because it had so many secrets and mysteries. You really have no idea how it's going to end until the very end. You just can't put it down. It's basically about 4 girls that are good friends and are finding out things that they shouldn't. They are too curious and afraid of getting caught and getting kicked out of the school. You learn that sometimes people aren't always as they seem. Maybe the people who seem most likely to suceed don't, vise versa. It takes you through the twists and turns of a strange famous person's life. How come every thing you research draws a blank, it's all explained. I'd encourage reading it if you love a good mystery and want to be surprised at the end.
You people are wrong the GW is good!!.......2003-04-17
Awesome book It holds my attentionits full of mystery and trying to do whats best for aother person Anyone cold enough to say this book is stupid u didnt read it your lieing it teaches a valuable leson everyone should know!! So dont listen to them other people and give this book a chance cause it is GREAT!!
falling stars.......2002-07-04
I liked the book Falling Stars. I liked the way it brought all types of backgrounds together as one family setting. If you had read Cinnamon, Ice, Rose, and Honey you would know how different all of the charaters really were. They all had to go through, or had gone through some rough times to get to the point where they were.I think V.C. Andrews gave everyone a type of situtation that they could relate to in one way or another. I liked the fact that the students all except one of course, {Howard} stayed together as one. I got the feeling that the students were telling Ms.Senetsky that no matter how bad you think things are if you are open and honest with people you can make things right. I really liked the feeling that I got when I finished this book.I felt that you can make a difference no matter how small people may make you feel. No doubt Ms. Senestky had alot to try and hide, but if she had just been open from the start there would be no reason to try to hide her daughter from the world in which she lived. Gerta did nothing wrong and if the public could not accept her I would not want to be in their spotlight.

Holly Tate never dreamed a night out with friends over martinis would lead to dancing naked under the stars and making a wish as one streaked across the sky. The next morning she wakes with a disgruntled Elf in her bed and only a vague recollection of the night before...

A Fun Read.......2007-01-12
I am starting to read all the "Still Sexy Ladies Guide" books. This one was the first that I read and loved it. The humor and the easy going writing style kept me spellbound. The plot was somewhat predictable however I didn't mind because of the way the book flowed. If you want a good book where you will chuckle aloud and find that hours have gone by rather than a half hour... then this is a book for you.
Judith C. Rochelle - a fun read.......2006-06-01
Ever wonder what it would be like to have an Elf for a lover, to have your world turned upside down, and to realize that falling in love can be fun? Holly Tate wished on a falling star, just as many of us do,and her wish came true in vivid living color. For a really feel-good read, this is the book to buy.
Sexy and funny.......2006-05-31
Holly has a busy life that gets busier when she wishes for, and gets, an elf. The fun of Edan is he's from another world and the miscommunications abound. Throw in several show dogs and the times get raucous. At the heart of the story are two people from different worlds who must decide if and how they can sacrifice for love.
Love this book!.......2006-03-17
This is the first book I've read in the Still Sexy Ladies Guide to Dating Immortals series by Triskelion Publishing. I love this series! I can't wait to read more of them.
If you like quirky, fun, sexy books, Falling Star Wish is perfect for you. It's been a long time since I've read a book in 2 days. Most of the time, I get bored and put it down - forever. But not this one.
Jane
Funny, heart wrenching, special -- absolute magic!.......2005-10-25
When Holly Tate wishes on a falling star, little does she know just how much her life will change. Because not only does she have an affinity for the tiny dragon that's been keeping her company ever since the WTC fell, she's also tied to an elf who'd put Orlando Bloom to shame. Does she know this? Not until Edan shows up in her room and makes love with her when she's in a margarita induced haze -- and he's still there in the morning.
I loved this book. It's on my keeper shelf to be read over and again, a fairy tale for grown up women looking for escape and the need to believe -- just like we did when we were kids.

Legendary scout Kit Carson's sassy daughter Adaline, or Falling Star, as her Arapaho mother called her before succumbing to cholera, is mute with grief. Her widowed father has left her with his racist, cruel relatives until he returns from his Rocky Mountain expedition. But her cousins' treatment of her is more than she can bear. Instead of allowing her to go to school, they force her to work as a servant in the schoolhouse. Due to her "half-breed" status, she is barely considered human. Her mixed heritage causes her plenty of internal confusion, as well.
"I'm a mix, I reckon, of white and red blood, and also a jumbled love for free roaming and the Fruits of Civilization, which is what Doc Hempstead calls reading, writing, and geography."
Adaline's intelligence and sensitivity keep her alive when her impulsiveness provokes her to run away to find her father. Her bravery and gritty frontier resourcefulness rival her father's, but her compassion is all her own.
In this lively and touching account, Mary Pope Osborne has fictionalized the life of Kit Carson's real but little-known daughter. Osborne is the renowned author of the very popular Magic Tree House series, as well as many other books for children and young adults, including a collection of yarns about American folk heroes called American Tall Tales. (Ages 9 and older) --Emilie Coulter

a heroine caught between two worlds and the past and the present.......2007-06-10
A young girl who is of both white and Native American parentage is forced to live with her prejudiced, white Christian relatives after the death of her Arapaho mother and after her father, Kit Carson, leaves on a trek into the wilderness. Eventually, Adaline Falling Star escapes from this oppressive and misunderstanding environment and treks out to find her father. It a beautifully written story about a child caught between two worlds, being part of both and part of neither. She's also caught between her past with her parents and her future. She also faces a dilemma when she bonds with a mutt (also of mixed parentage), and eventually faces the same problem as her parents who abandoned her: live in the past or the present. It's a powerful, thoughtful, and beautiful young adult novel with a strong, feisty, intelligent, and tragic heroine. Based on a true story. Grade: B+
Adeline Falling Star.......2006-03-25
After the death of her mother, Adaline is sent to St. Louis by her father to live with her cousins so he can explore the West. Adaline is a wild and adventurous girl and she does not like living with her "civilized" cousins. She is treated so harshly that she runs away and tries to find her way back to where her mother's people live. During her journey, Adeline meets a lovable homeless dog and she and the little dog face many obstacles and challenges that they must overcome. Adaline Falling Star was written by Mary Pope Osborne. The author portrays the characters very well. By the end of the book they feel as if they are real. Although it was very descriptive, Adaline Falling Star was slightly boring at times. It is a good book but would not be described as a page-turner. Somebody who likes reading realistic fiction might enjoy this book.
Adaline Falling Star.......2006-03-25

Adeline Falling Star
By: Mary Pope Osborne
11 year old, motherless Adaline finds herself living very far from home. While her father, the famous scout Kit Carson is exploring the west (which Adaline always dreamt of doing) she is in St. Louis at her cousin Silas' school. Adaline and her father think she is going to be learning there, but instead Adaline is introduced as a mute child (even though she isn't) and is made official "wood hauler and dirt sweeper". Because of Adaline's diverse heritage, she is teased and made fun of. The teachers completely overlook Adaline's intellectual ability. Finally a young girl named Lillian pushes Adaline over the edge. When Adaline finds out that her father just might have abandoned her, she shows her grief by nearly killing herself. Then she decides to run away. While Adaline is running away, she finds a dog. The two of them join together to make a great team.
In this book Mary Pope Osborne does an amazing job describing the feelings of her characters and gives great images of the characters' surroundings. Mary Pope Osborne does not use quotation marks making it hard to tell the difference if a character is speaking or thinking. In this story Mary Pope Osborne varies her style depending on the scene. At times her descriptions are shocking and graphic. For example, in one of Adaline's dreams, she dreams that bugs are eating her up. At other times her writing is a bit dull and monotonous.
The theme in this book is that it is important to take chances for the things you want in life. Adaline wants to see her father so she takes the chance of running away to see her father again.
Make a Wish.......2005-03-01
In this book Adaline (the main character) is a troubled girl who is forced to live with her cousins in Colorado and she does not like living there and she has problems with her uncle Jon and he is very upset with her and she decides to try to commit suicide and she failed so she just decides to run away and she goes far far into he woods and she goes into a cave and she is living there for a while then she gets so mad at her dad form sending her there in the first place and that her unclemade her mad like that that she cuts all of ehr hair off. she then cuts it all off. then she goes to bed then the next day she finds another cave and she goes looking around in there and she then discovered a stone with the shape of a bear. she then picks it up and she was holding it then all of a sudden she heard a loud bang and she gets scared. she looks down the cave and she sees an indian wit h a big drum and she goes down there to meet him......I really liked this book because it was really mysterious and you never knew what was going to happen next.It was one of my favorite books of all time.
Get to know someone before you judge them........2004-11-08
The main characters,Kit Carson the dad of Adaline.John C.Fremont the friend of Kit Carson.Adaline Carson the daughter of Kit Carson and Caddie Carson.Ben Fort is Adaline's grandpa and Silas Fort is her grandma which they are Mexican.Doc Hempstead helped Caddie have Adaline. She born at Horse Creek in Missouri. She has to go with relatives in St.Louis.They treat her bad. They called her skinny and bastered, all because of her race. They did'nt like her mother before she died.
Adaline did'nt even get to know her mother because her mother died a week after she was born, because she had a disease, she did'nt get the care from the hospital.
Her grandparents that she had to move with,They thought her mother was a trapp and that's why she had that disease. They also thought Adaline was goanna be like her mother.Adaline wasn't like her mother she only looked like her.Arapaho people were concered bad people.
My opinion of this book is strong.I used to judge people because people used to judge me.

An Incredible Journey.......2002-02-02
The journey Daniel Spurr recounts in his magnificently told travelogue-...-memoir is one the author himself hadn't planned on taking, yet he reaches deep within to share the emotionally resonant, beautiful tale of the seaman's life and of a father's love.

This book examines the remarkable lives of the celebrities that died in tragic airplane crashes.
Customer Reviews:
interesting subject.......2006-06-10
I thought this book was interesting and it helped to answer some questions. The book could have been longer and it did seem like a fast creation by the author. Also the author did not need to provide information regarding the extent of the injuries that were suffered by its music stars. Common sense will tell you that the injuries of any passenger in a light weight aircraft crash can be horrific. With all of that said, I would still give this book a good rating.
Anyone interested in this topic would certainly find this book interesting.
Music's Broken Wings by Heitman also covers this topic. The Ricky Nelson crash is covered in great detail. That book is larger and does a better job of sparing the reader from the upsetting information.
Both are interesting reading material.
Slightly Enlightening.......2005-10-14
I was disappointed in the lack of content in this book. While I was slightly enlightened with what appear to be some interesting facts, I believe there could have been much more information, resulting in a much thicker book. I finished this in two quick sittings (about a 3.5 hour read). This was a rush job, without a lot of commitment to research. The last few artists barely get a mention. Randy Rhodes, the guitarist that resurrected Ozzy Ozborne's career gets 1.5 pages??
Fantastically Gripping.......2004-12-31
This book takes you into the airplane or helicopter of some of music's most beloved stars on the trips that ended in their death. From Buddy Holly to Aaliyah, you are put in the scene by the very talented author Rich Everitt, and then taken up to the very second of their death. During the story of the last days, there is a flashback through the life of the star ending on the day they die. Another fascinating aspect of this book is how every chapter ends with "Ironies and Oddities". A very interesting list of factoids about the star and any ironic circumstances involving their crash. I loved this book! It truly has something for everyone, the music buff, the amateur or professional pilot, and anyone who just loves to be on the edge of their seat.
Spell binding.......2004-11-03
A friend recommended the book and I was skeptical at first, knowing nothing about flying airplanes. HOWEVER, the stories of the musicians were terrific and the reports of what actually happened in the crash were riveting. My husband and I shared the book back and forth for three days before we finally read it cover to cover between us.
Everitt Rock and Roll Heaven Review.......2004-10-13
I loved getting the real story from a news anchor. The fact that the author was reporting the inaccuracy of first reports made the material especially interesting. I would highly recommend the book to any rock/country fan, especially those who find facts about their favorite performers of interest. I am purchasing for Christmas presents.
Book Description
Since Matthew Delooze's encounters with interdimensional beings during his childhood, and a spiritual awakening in 1998, he has been directed by mysterious forces. In 2005 he found himself being guided to visit Egypt, specifically the Temple of Hathor at Dendera. The astonishing photographs he took there suggest that we were ruled then by a race of reptilian aliens. Matthew believes that those reptilian aliens, that he calls the Serpent Cult, still rules us today, using their human puppets to deceive us into surrendering our spiritual self-possession. He draws parallels betweenancient Egyptian gods, the Live 8 concerts, monuments in our towns and cities and the imagery in the Pope's regalia to show us how. He also suggests how you, the reader, can awaken from you trance and reclaim your true spiritual legacy. "This is the absolute biscuit-taking, breathtaking, apoplectic fit-inducing, high point of conspiracy theories. It has everything, Freemasons, Knights Templar, Illuminati, Serpent Cults... symbolism galore." Richard Arcos

Disappointed.......2006-08-30
I think Beverly Lewis is one of the BEST authors! However, I was very disappointed to get this shipment. There was NO mention that these were children's books! In the future, I hope you will mention this in the description.
A Preview of the Summer Hill Secrets collection.......2000-07-19
These are exceptionally well written books! The story makes youfeel like you also have an Amish family as neighbors. You can learnabout a young girl's life and her many adventures with friends, school, and family. Although not everyone is facing the same dilemas as Merry ,the main character in these books, many can relate to having friendships that are worth a sacrafice. I recommend these books to everyone. It will keep you interested for hours.
Customer Reviews:
Useful in some sense.......2005-09-20
This book is not thick enough to discourage meteorite-wannabes to finally finish it front to cover. Through its few pages, of course one cannot expect a detailed description for every topic in meteoritics, but in some sense contains very useful information not usually found in other books. A list of useful meteorite dealers presented, a guide-list price for every popular meteorites per gram, this alone aided me in my decision making whether a meteorite posted in the web is overpriced or not. Useful to start with, but could have been written more lengthly as I feel the author has this "feel" of what a new collector would be.
Excellent Book!.......2002-09-06
In addition to reading this great book, I have had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Reynolds in person. He is as engaging a speaker as he is an author, and has a way of bringing you into a subject like no one else. Falling Stars is an excellent introduction to meteor observing and meteorite collecting. This really is a branch of astronomy that anyone can get involved with. I highly recommend this book!
Good Short Introduction to Meteors, Meteorites, and Tektites.......2002-08-28
Falling Stars: A Guide to Meteors and Meteorites is just that, a short introduction to the wonderful world of meteors and meteorite collecting. There are a number of good books out there on this subject, but this one is a handy quick reference guide for novice collectors and those interested in learning a little about the origins of these fascinating pieces of rock and metal from space. It gives a brief overview of meteors and comets, descriptions of the major meteor showers, major impact craters, and famous meterorite falls, as well as a breakdown of the various types of meteorites and tektites. It doesn't go into great detail on, say, the difference between an octahedrite, hexahedrite, and ataxite nickel-iron meteorite for example, but it does provide some sound info for the beginner.

Saving the best for first.......2007-06-17
I picked up The Light of Falling Stars off of Barnes & Noble's recommendations shelf, as it won their award for best book by a new author. It's the story of a plane crash and how it affects the victims' families and the town where it happened, which is kind of a generic subject. But Lennon has a light touch and the book's easy to get into, so it's basically like a more intelligent and satisfying beach read. (I've found that most crappy authors like to exploit similarly dramatic situations--see everything Anita Shreve has ever written.) Unfortunately, I decided to follow Lennon's career after liking his initial offering--and I was consistently disappointed. The Funnies was good at times, but not quite up to snuff; and On the Night Plain was downright boring.
I guess this endorsement sounds a bit half-hearted, but the bottom line is that it's a light read but still a good one. No reason not to take a break from the heavy stuff now and again. Although a plane crash isn't exactly a light subject, the book is uncomplicated and easy to get through, and writing like Lennon does here takes a certain kind of talent itself.
Exactly what I'd hoped to read. .......2006-07-02
This book is almost without plot, and overabundant with character. Still, with characters like this, I can't complain.
The story starts with a plane crash. This is a grand, dramatic event, so overwhelming that it's surreal. But the heartbreak lies in the details; a discarded barrette, the litter of lettuce falling around a man while he eats a storebought sandwich because he doesn't want his wife's cooking, a badly done sketch, a lock where none was before. The author's writing style is measured and plain, but he sneaks in bits of poetry in his prose. Even the ghosts in this book are so plainly painted that they seem absolutely real.
Certainly this book is not for everyone. A reader searching for a hero would be disappointed in the very commonplace individuals who populate this small town. Their inertia and denial, though beautifully rendered, can be frustrating. But there is quiet heroism in the way they absorb the blows of their individual tragedies, gather up their dignity and move on with their lives.
Excellent!.......2003-01-18
I couldn't put this down... It made me laugh and cry all at the same time.
Haunted Lives.......2002-08-26
"The Light of Falling Stars" is a debut novel by J. Robert Lennon. In light of events of September 2001, I found this book to be haunting and insightful. It follows several residents of the small town of Marshall, Montana after a plane crashes in some woods on the outskirts of town. Of the over 50 passengers kiled in the crash, 31 of them are from Marshall. But the book doesn't tell the tale of those who were killed, it instead focuses on those that they left behind.
Paul and Anita Beveridge live in a renovated fishing cabin on the edge of a National Wilderness area. They are a young married couple whose relationship is faltering. They are out in their backyard arguing on a hot August evening when the plane's engine clips the corner of the roof of their cabin and they witness the plane crashing in the nearby forest. Lars Gowgill is a young man who goes with his friend to pick his girlfriend, Megan, up at the airport after she spent the summer in Seattle with her family. Trixie Bogen is a lonely, old women who lives by herself in Marshall and she is awaiting the arrival of her ex-husband.
The novel explores the story of these characters in the aftermath of the crash. It shows how they handle the loss, how it effects each of them, and how they learn to continue with their lives after the tragedy. The story delves into love, loss, mourning, and relationships.
The writing in "The Light of Falling Stars" is simple and beautiful. The writing captured my attention immediately and kept me turning the pages. The novel offers an excellent exploration of human emotions in the aftermath of tragedy.
Engaging and Impressive.......2002-08-20
What impresses me the most, besides the beautiful prose and rich storylines, is that the author is so young. He was my age when he wrote this, and I cannot imagine my first work being so beautiful and well crafted. The point of view changes are smooth, plot development takes some interesting turns. It is a gripping story. I look forward to reading more works by the author.
