5 out of 5 stars An Audiobook Worth the Price.......2007-09-15

Glory in Death (In Death, Book 2) "Glory in Death" has a great narrator. She makes all of the characters unique. Eve Dallas with her strong personality, Peabody with her yes, sir / no, sir; and Rourke with his Scottish brough. Once you start listening to it, it's very hard to stop. To be able to visually see what the narrator was saying and with the different voices you could definitley tell who was talking. The quality is excellent, at least on the CD version. Even with the price of audiobooks this one was well worth the cost.

5 out of 5 stars In Death series, book #2 better than the first.......2007-08-28

I enjoyed this book, the second in the series, much better than the first, although the frequent use of the F word bothered me a bit. It didn't seem appropriate or necessary. Love Roarke, Eve, Feeney, and Mavis. Love the new captain too. Still absolutely hate the butler. Please kill him off soon. One part did disappoint me and that was at the end when she apologizes to someone who clearly did not deserve it and the guy insults her. Roarke handles it well, but it certainly ticked me off. Can't say more--don't want to give away the plot.

If you liked the first book, you will most likely enjoy this one better. The writing improved from the first one--there is much less wasted space on describing the future in one big chunk and more of dropping it in here and there so the plot flows much better. The plot is also much more believable, although the bad guy goes off the deep end in the end a little too quickly. Since I don't have experience with psychos, I couldn't say if that was normal, but it seemed a little too tidy. There are also more and much steamier love scenes, although I personally liked the shower scene in the first book.

Would love to see the first two books made into a movie. I'd buy a copy.

5 out of 5 stars Great.......2007-07-19

I love this series... you must read it to understand. It's all about a homicide detective named Lt. Eve Dallas and how she goes about solving a case which always seems imposibble to solve at first.

5 out of 5 stars Another Winner.......2007-05-27

The second book in J.D. Robb's "...IN DEATH" series, following Naked in Death (In Death), is another winner. The thing I love the most about this series, besides the awesome, fully-developed characters, is the fact that the mystery is ALWAYS thrilling and realistic.

This time around, popular, well-known, outspoken women are being murdered - their throats viciously slashed. As Eve works to discover the true killer, she also finds family secrets, devious reporters, and new friends in strange places.

GLORY IN DEATH features the first appearance of Peabody, a larger role for Nadine Furst, and the first glimpse into what Eve's childhood really entailed.

I'm absolutely LOVING rediscovering my favorite romantic suspense series of all time!!

5 out of 5 stars I think they just keep getting better!.......2007-04-26

This, the second in the "in death" series, but not the first that I have read. I have decided to go back and start at the beginning, and unlike some reviewers I am enjoying the ride. In "Glory in Death" Eve is once again after a psychotic killer, who has killed a prominent District Attorney and an aspiring actress. As the plot thickens, we find Eve doubting herself and her growing relationship with Roarke, the sexy billionaire. Feeney is ever present; Mavis is growing into quite a talent; Dr. Mira is continuing to profile killers while struggling to have Eve trust her (she too has been victimized); Summerset (has struggled to get along with Eve from the first time they met); Galahad, the cat is still eating tuna; Commander Whitney is stern and fierce and Peabody is finally introduced into the series. But the ultimate theme in the book is: (1) Will Eve finally commit to Roarke?,(2)Will she catch the killer before he catches her? I think "Glory" is a wonderful installment in the series. I recommend it to all.

4 out of 5 stars First three chapters were awful, but it gets better.......2007-08-20

This is my first Nora Roberts novel and, after reading the first three chapters, I went online to cancel my order for the next four novels--it was that bad. Fortunately, it gets better. It's partly because she drowns the reader in sci-fi descriptions right at the beginning to update them about what it's like to live in 2058 and partly because the protagonist Eve Dallas starts out as not a very likeable character. I would also have to say that Roberts begins the novel with way too many adjectives that just made it irritating to read. After about the sixth chapter, it definitely got better and I'm hoping the sequels will also be better.

Some things were predictable, many things didn't quite fit, but the romance between Roarke and Dallas is a nice sideline and they do seem perfect for each other. Since 26 novels in this series seem to have already been written in just 12 years, I'm hoping the writing gets better and that she isn't just churning out novels every month (she has other series as well). I would definitely have to say that I like other authors' writing style much better, but quite frankly I'm running out of authors to read. When I read a book, I prefer to have it read like the person is speaking to me, not like I'm reading an encyclopedia with a plot included. The first part of the novel reads more like the latter, while the last part reads more like the former. That being said, I did enjoy it enough to finish the novel in a day (but it was a weekend and I read a lot) and I did place a subsequent order for the sequel. I think if you like Preston and Child or Koontz, you will like this one. The ideas of what the future would be like are sometimes progressive and imaginative (licensed prostitutes and lasers instead of messy handguns), while at other times downright frightening (unlimited Congressional terms and only the rich can afford real coffee).

I've heard many reviewers bash sex scenes by various authors. The sex scenes in this novel fit, but weren't particularly well-written. I had to read two at least twice to understand what the author was eluding to and one, I'm afraid, I still don't quite get. I guess maybe because I've been married for almost two decades. I think if the reader doesn't get it (and I'm pretty enlightened), then maybe it's just poorly written. There were a couple of other parts in the book that I didn't get either that had nothing to do with sex scenes. Sometimes you just need to say what you want to say and not use so many colorful adjectives and metaphors to describe it.

My last comment has to do with the length of the novel. It's considerably shorter than Dean Koontz paperbacks or Preston and Child paperbacks. I think it took me four hours to read and it usually takes me six hours to read Koontz or Preston and Child. Personally, I liked the shorter length and I didn't feel cheated at all. The plot was well-developed by the end and I thoroughly enjoyed the way Roberts tied up all the loose ends--it fit and wasn't just hastily finished. So I enjoy the shorter length. I wish other authors could complete an entire novel in that amount of space. (I sometimes feel that Koontz rushes to find an ending in the last two chapters and am left somewhat frustrated with the ending.)

I sometimes wish Amazon allowed ten star ratings instead of only five. I would give the plot a 10 and the writing a 5 or 6.

4 out of 5 stars Good romantic suspense. .......2007-08-13

Having read about a half dozen Roberts books of very mixed quality, this is definately my favorite so far. It starts out with the murder of a prostitute, who also happens to be the granddaughter of a conservative senator. The killer has left a note, "One of Six", suggesting a serial killer. Eve Dallas is on the case, and more bodies pop up. While investigating the case, Dallas falls in love with a mysterious businessman known only as Roarke.

This time, Roberts doesn't waste any time on irrelevant subplots. The story starts from page one and keeps its pace throughout. The romance does not feel gratuitous as in some romantic suspense novels; it's well connected to the main plot. "Naked in Death" is a quick, entertaining read for romance and (non-romance) mystery readers alike.

4 out of 5 stars Well worth the price, better than CD.......2007-08-09

30+ dollars for a set of CD's that my wife would have to swap and keep track of......no way.

This title was on ONE (1) MP3 Cd, and was easily copied (no copy protection) to my wife's MP3 player and she was listeing to the entire book at night as she worked. No swapping discs, and the original disc stayed in the dvd-like case SAFE. It is the EXACT same version as found on the audio CD.

I will definately be buying Books on MP3 if I have a choice in the matter. The convenience AND price makes this a no brainer.

The shipping and price was very fair and best of all, IT WAS IN STOCK. AMAZON is fast becoming my first chioce for many things.

5 out of 5 stars A real page turner.......2007-08-04

This one gave me the background on Roarke and Eve Dallas. Great summer read.

5 out of 5 stars Once you read this one you will be HOOKED!.......2007-08-03

It all starts right here with Eve, Roarke, Mavis and the rest of the "In Death" family. The cases are serious and this one leads her right to a love she would have never imagined could belong to her. Roarke is absolutely to die for. And, I don't know of anyone out there who doesn't want a gourmet cup of coffee after this book either.

This debut thriller should come with a warning--do not pick up if you have anything else planned for as long as it takes to read it! Tropic of Night is a dramatic, stylish, smart, and very strongly plotted novel, mixing anthropology, ethnography, sorcery, mayhem, and murder in an intriguing and wholly captivating story that ranges from Mali to Siberia, Nigeria to Miami, and never lets up. Jane Doe is a smart but listless graduate student when she encounters Marcel Vierchau, a French scholar whose lover she quickly becomes, following him to the strange world of the Chenka, a mysterious sect of Siberian shamans in whose society she quickly loses her scholarly objectivity--and nearly her life. Returning without Vierchau to the comfortable world of her wealthy family, she meets and marries DeWitt Moore, a black poet who accompanies her to Africa on a field trip that turns him into a powerful shaman, awakens her own abilities to commune with the spirits of the Yoruba sorcerers, and again comes close to destroying her. Wary of Moore's new strength, she stages her own death and becomes a faceless member of Miami's underclass, but just when she believes she's safe from his reach, a series of bloody ritual murders of pregnant Miami women convince her that she is once again his target--and that anyone who comes between them, including her adopted daughter, will also meet a terrifying end. Michael Gruber delivers a fabulous, wholly original read that will linger in the reader's mind long after the last page is turned! --Jane Adams

Book Description

Not since The Secret History has a novel so flawlessly married the ferocious intensity of an unforgettable thriller with the depth, daring, and nuance of our most celebrated literary fiction. Tropic of Night is a virtuoso performance -- an unforgettably accomplished novel, a masterpiece of electricity and ambition.

Jane Doe was a promising anthropologist, an expert on shamanism. Now she's nothing, a shadow: after faking her own suicide, she's living under an assumed identity in Miami with a little girl to protect. Everyone thinks she's dead. Or so she hopes.

Then the killings start, a series of ritualistic murders that terrifies all of Miami. The investigator is Jimmy Paz, a Cuban-American police detective. There are witnesses, but they can recall almost nothing of the events, as though their memories have been erased -- as if a spell has been cast on each of them. Equally bizarre is the string of clues Paz uncovers: a divination charm, exotic drugs found in the bodies of the victims, a century-old report telling of a secret place in the heart of Africa.

These clues point Paz inexorably toward the fugitive, Jane Doe, and force Jane to realize that the darkness she has fled is seeking her out, hunting her down. By the time her path intersects with Jimmy Paz's, the two will be thrust into a cataclysmic battle between good and an evil unimaginable to the Western mind.

Download Description

E-book extra: Afterword by Michael Gruber Jane Doe is nothing, a shadow. Once a promising anthropologist, she's now hiding from an unimaginable horror. Miami police detective Jimmy Paz knows that Jane is connected to the ritualistic murders terrifying the city. Together, they must battle a psychopath whose shamanistic powers can alter reality itself.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Interesting read.......2007-09-30

Why was it interesting? It was interesting to me in the suspension of belief sort of thing. But the anthropology was hard to follow and more than I cared to follow about west african mojo. Jane's journal was very personal in an unpleasant out-of-her-mind way. The olo, ifa, ulene stuff was over-detailed and forced me to work too hard to decipher the plot in all of it. The author's expression of Jane's mind was unsettling and the racism of the book was too guilt-ridden. It was a little scary when Witt would "come" for her - that's a good thing. But in the end I was disappointed that the entire story was just about the magic and suspension of western beliefs. Certainly an intelligent writer, and intelligence appreciated. But this book was not my cup of tea.

2 out of 5 stars Depends on Reader's Expectations.......2007-07-21

The extent to which a reader will enjoy this book depends, I believe, on the expectations one has about it. If you are looking for a pulse pounding thriller in the vein of Thomas Harris' Red Dragon or Silence of the Lambs, this is not it. What you get here instead is a thoughtful, carefully researched meditation on good versus evil, reality versus madness, and the spiritual versus the physical worlds. The story is told, in part, from the dispassionate objectivity of a cultural anthropologist and draws heavily on anthropology's style and language. Alternating points of view shift back and forth in time as the story traverses the globe from Miami, Florida to West Africa and Eastern Europe. The rituals of the indigenous peoples of these areas are extensively described in long expository passages that make little sense until more of the plot is revealed. The alternating chapters and shifting perspective dilute the suspense, and I had to force myself to continue reading. The female protagonist was difficult to identify with as so little was known about her for much of the book. Gruber slowly doles out only the smallest bits of information. Jimmy Paz, on the other hand, is a fascinating character and the only redeeming feature of this novel. The story's slow, plodding pace picks up somewhat in the final hundred pages, but, by that point, I found myself no longer caring.

3 out of 5 stars Good but not great.......2007-06-02

I was thoroughly engrossed by the details of the Santeria religion which is described very respectfully and with what seems like in-person research. However the motives for the actions of the main character Jane Doe remained obscure to the very end. One sentence it seems took care of the preceding 400 pages of "suspense of did she know or not". Paz the inspector also has immense time to ruminate and rut, and then suddenly in the last 100 pages stirs into action. The extended plot development takes places as present narrative, diaries, background stories which are well written . I recommend the book, but it is too long by about 100 pages. In fact I went from page 300 or so and skipped to the last chapter. I knew just way too much about these characters and needed the action of the last chapter to make the book worthwhile. But as I say the brilliant presentation of the Santeria religion made the book very worthwhile reading.

4 out of 5 stars Recommended With A Warning.......2007-04-07

The first book I read by this author was his newest, The Book of Air And Shadows, based upon that work I wanted to go back and read other offerings by Mr. Gruber. This was the first work he published and as I was to learn part 1 of a trilogy. The book is very well done however if profoundly disturbing crimes involving pregnant women are an issue you would find too troubling, stay away from this book. The crimes are not gratuitous slasher events; the author minimizes and nearly eliminates sensationalizing the brutality of the crimes, as they are events in a much larger work. But they are there and some might find them a topic they would rather avoid. Candidly had I known what the book was about, Santeria, African Witchcraft and its decedents I would likely have passed by this work, as these are not topics I normally have interest in.

Credit is due to the author as he has written a work that is expansive, highly detailed and very engaging. He brings the reader from Long Island and a home of dynastic privilege to isolated villages in Africa and finally to the City of Magic located in The United States. As he did in, The Book of Air and Shadows, there are several different threads that eventually tie together as the book progresses, again they take the form of diary, narrative and in this case trips in to places readers will have to name for themselves. If you would like to stick with proper names the author has provided a glossary of what I would guess is unfamiliar ground for most readers.

If you like the clash of, "traditional science", and belief systems that are measured in millennia, the tale of Jane the anthropologist, her husband and their trek to very dark places of human behavior this book is for you. The author poses some challenges to what is scientifically acceptable and that which is written off as hysteria. He also shares with readers facts of quantum physics that are simultaneously as true as any fact you may cite and also border on the fantastic. Facts that easily would have been dismissed as fantasy or magic a few short years ago.

1 out of 5 stars Took a Left Turn For the Worse.......2007-02-22

I slogged through the first 50 pages confused and not really seeing what direction this book was going. Then thouroughly enjoyed the next 300 pages thinking I'd just discovered a great new writer with an interesting recurring character, Dectective Jimmy Paz of the Miami PD. But in the last 100 pages the author took such a drastic left turn that it ruined the book. Gruber took an extraordinary amount of time steeping each character in realism by doing so much research on his topic that you really believed the the characters. But then he chucks the whole thing with an absurd ending that starts way too early. The final 100 pages are not based in reality making them just plain stupid. And for that reason this book deserves to be panned.

In 21st-century New York City, tough-as-nails cop Eve Dallas can survive a bombing, seduce her husband, and outsmart a terrorist--all on four hours of sleep. In this latest installment of the In Death series, author J.D. Robb (a.k.a. Nora Roberts) casts our heroine against an enigmatic group of terrorists named Cassandra. With no clear motivation or demands, Cassandra feeds on the thrill of senseless killing and the calculated destruction of Eve's world.

Relying on her own brawn and brains, as well as that of her aid Peabody and her husband Roarke, Eve begins to unravel a mystery that began decades before. When the killer's threats land close to home, Eve knows she has no choice but to gamble her own life for the chance to save her city as well as her loved ones.

J.D. Robb's combinations of mystery, suspense, and romance keep the fans of this series clamoring for more, and Loyalty in Death has equal amounts of each. While the passion between Eve and Roarke is as good as ever, the introduction of a new romantic element certainly turns up the heat and is a welcome twist. Though the evil-terrorist-in-NYC theme has been done before (most recently in The Siege), these beloved characters put up a good fight, and keep us glued to the pages. --Nancy R.E. O'Brien

5 out of 5 stars Great.......2007-07-19

I love this series... you must read it to understand. It's all about a homicide detective named Lt. Eve Dallas and how she goes about solving a case which always seems imposibble to solve at first.

5 out of 5 stars The changing face of terror.......2007-04-11

Even the future can't change the evil of of a terrorist organization's heart. Means, motives and methods all adapt to meet the changing techologies, but the one constant is the madness moving the characters involved.

Now, 50 years in the future, it falls on the shoulders of Eve Dallas to defeat terror's latest birth child....

A great story. I loved it more than most of the early Eve Dallas books. The characters become more lifelike with each story told and this one brings them out of the realm of fantasy, into a reality that is all their own....

A very exciting read!

5 out of 5 stars Always a hit!.......2006-08-26

Just when you think you know all the turns JD Robb can take you, she still takes you to the edge with these main characters, Eve & Roarke! She is lively, edgy, and never disappoints! Roarke adds just the edge she needs! It will make you laugh, pause & sigh, and keep turning the pages until you finish. Never gets old, as the character are always entertaining! Fast read.

5 out of 5 stars Larger than life.......2006-08-24

The 10th story (9 novels, 1 novella) in the In Death series gives readers a break after the emotional intensity of the preceding book, Conspiracy in Death.

Instead of a murderer or a serial killer, this time NYPSD homicide lieutenant Eve Dallas is up against terrorists who are bent on blowing up NYC landmarks.

The Good:
The characterization. As always, that's J.D. Robb's (Nora's) genius. Whatever the plot, she nails the characters.
The balance between seriousness and exaggeration. In this book, much is larger than life, but it's balanced with some serious and emotional scenes.
The continuing story. We get developments in Eve's past and in Peabody's life, and my personal favorite: Eve and Roarke's relationship continues to develop at a realistic pace.

The Bad:
I had a problem with the explanation for the first murder.
The motivation for the terrorist group was unclear.
The subject matter might hit a little too close to reality for some readers.

The Unusual:
It's a departure for the series, and I found I enjoyed it more if I viewed it as such. It's a bit over the top, moreso than other books in the series, as is particularly evident in the opening and closing scenes.

The Verdict:
It's an exciting, lively story, and the developments in the personal lives of several of the characters are well worth the read and a good addition to the series.

3 out of 5 stars Not tight enough.......2006-05-18

Not bad but just quite average. There should've been a bit more work done, more interviews, etc. Anyways, the theme of arrogancy has been used in many of her books and it's starting to get a little old.

I sure hope she's really improving and will stop using this theme all too often.

5 out of 5 stars Love all of Nora's romance books.......2007-02-25

You can never go wrong with a Nora Roberts romance novel and this is just one more great one in the list.

4 out of 5 stars Tears of the Moon.......2007-02-07

If you love Nora Roberts then, you will not be disappointed
I ride the train to and from work as this is " my time "
It would not be the same without one of her books. :-)

5 out of 5 stars A fine female central figure.......2006-08-20

This is certainly one of Nora Roberts' better novels. As always, she creates a realistic setting, herein the delightful village of Ardmore, County of Waterford Ireland. In fact, Ms. Roberts is about the best writer working today in creating a getaway setting for her plots. For this alone, the book is worth the time to read.

As an aside, the town Ms. Roberts describes actually exists, pretty much as we see it in this trilogy. There is a ruined church dedicated to Ireland's first Christian, St. Declan, and there is a round tower on the hill overlooking Ardmore and the sea on the south coast of Ireland. The population of Ardmore is about 300 people. However, there is no known pub there named Gallaghers. Too bad.

What makes this book stand above the first and third books of the Irish trilogy is the character of Brenna O'Toole, a young woman who works beside her handyman father and dresses like him. Readers have seen far too many frilly, bosomy heroines and young Lochinvar heroes. It's a pleasant departure to find a heroine full of contradictions and with earthy overtones.

The plot is more than somewhat predictable, alas. Anyone who has read one or two of this writer's novels knows exactly what is going to occur. Man and woman are introduced to the reader. They clash, even as they are attracted to one another physically. There will be a sex scene about half way through the book, in this case a far more specific scene than usual. Then there will be at least one or more similar scenes before the inevitable happy ending. The ending here is a bit of a downer, in that Brenna is, to my thinking, humiliated in a very painful way for no good reason. It leaves a rather bitter taste for the reader who has read it all.

But let us not quibble too much. Nora Roberts is a very good writer. Her settings, her characters, her dialogue--all are excellent. One can only wish that she might surprise the reader by not using the same plot formula again and again.

5 out of 5 stars An Awesome Book!.......2006-07-02

This is truly one of Nora Roberts' better efforts. I own around 70 of her books, and Tears of the moon is definately in my top 10 favorites. I found it to be engaging, relaxing, amusing, heart felt and endearing. The charactors are unique, diverse and very believable. Even the Fairie prince and the ghost, Lady Gwen, were believable. I enjoyed the fact that she didn't stereo type her charactors. The entire series was incredible, I would recomend this to any Nora Roberts fan, or to anyone new to Romance novels.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2005-12-09

I love this book so much. The story of the fae helping the humans and the great story line will just suck you into this book. I felt like I was in the book with how wonderful Nora Roberts explains who things are happening. Parts get a bit slow, but then it picks up and you are swept away again. Some sequels leave something to be desired but this sequel doesn't. It fits so well into the first. Well worth the few dollars and the time to read. Definitely a great book!!

5 out of 5 stars Another Winner!.......2007-08-12

Another winner in the "...IN DEATH" series, CEREMONY IN DEATH finds Eve Dallas dealing with things that mere science can't explain. Although Dallas believes that evil comes in the form of men, you'll get a little surprise when you find out exactly how other characters from the series, including Roarke and Dr. Mira, feel about it.

Another great read, with high emotion, action, suspense, and romance.

This is an awesome series!

I love this series... you must read it to understand. It's all about a homicide detective named Lt. Eve Dallas and how she goes about solving a case which always seems imposibble to solve at first.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT installment!.......2007-03-22

The thing I like about Eve Dallas is that she's always learning. In her youth, life taught her some very hard lessons. Now life is teaching her to chip away that hard exterior, rid herself of preconceptions and become not only a better cop but a better PERSON.

This story goes a long way toward the aim of character development. It's a great tale and very suspenseful. I have to say I didn't see the ending coming. I am good about predicting a story's end. I fell far short of being able to predict this one. A GREAT JOB!

Book Description

A year ago, archaeologist Leslie MacIntyre barely survived the explosion that took the life of her fiancé, Matt Connolly. In the long months since, sh's slowly come to terms not only with her loss but with her unsettling new ability to communicate with ghosts, a dubious 'gift' received in the wake of her own brush with death.

Now sh's returned to lower Manhattan's historic Hastings House, site of the explosion, to conquer her fears and investigate a newly discovered burial ground. In this place restless spirits hold the secrets not only of past injustice but of a very real and very contemporary conspiracy with deadly designs on the city's women—including Leslie herself.

By night Matt visits her in dreams, warning her and offering clues to the truth, while by day she finds herself helped by—and attracted to— his flesh-and-blood cousin Joe. Torn by her feelings for both men, caught between the worlds of the living and the dead, Leslie struggles against the encroaching danger that threatens to overcome her. As she is drawn closer to the darkness at the heart of Hastings House, she must ultimately face the power of an evil mind, alone in a place where not even the men she loves can save her.

3 out of 5 stars I didn't know whether to cry because I was happy or sad! ( I'm a spoiler!).......2007-07-20

Leslie, Matt, and Joe! Ahh! WHY? WHY? WHY? Ok did I say why enough? I just don't get it. Why bring Joe into the story if its going to end this way. Joe already lost so much for the story to end this way. I know bringing Genevieve in at the end is supose to vendicate what happened but I read this story because I thought that the hero and heroine concures all evil and live happily ever after, not heroine dies and goes off into the sunset with dead fiance, leaving behind someone that who could have been something in your life. I just did not know how to feel about the story as a whole when I got to the ending. I think that if I knew more about Matt, I would not have felt cheated. I think if Matt were more of a main character, and not just the ghost boyfriend protecting the heroine, I would have understood why the author went down this path. Also, I probably would have been all for love to concure all and Matt and Leslie ending up together as true love should. But from the beginning Leslie seems to be moving on, and moving in the direction of Joe. This is why it should not have ended the way it did. Joe could have been the "Ghost Whisperer" and the story could have been about him finding the killer and not about leading you to believe this was a story of Leslie and Joe. Sorry Im rambling! I just feel cheated somehow. I know I probably sound like a hater, but I do love Heather Graham.

5 out of 5 stars Great read with a twist ending..........2007-07-20

Even with the twist at the end I loved this book. After reading it, I have to say that yes I was a little disappointed with the ending. However, we readers have come to expect the "typical" happy ending and have a hard time with any other type of happy ending. Those of you who hated the end need to really look at the relationships between all of the characters and know that there are many potential happy endings to this book. I would still recommend this book to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding!.......2007-07-10

Okay let me start off by saying that anything Heather Graham, aka Shannon Drake, writes in the paranormal field I love. She is one of two writers that brought me back to reading after almost a 6 year absence, the other being Maggie Shayne.
Now I must admit I read the reviews before I purchased this book so I knew ahead of time that the ending was questionable. All I can say is thats the reason I stopped reading for several years, still rarely read basic romance books, was because they were all the same..ie..man meets woman, they fall in love, conquer one or two obstacles and then get married and have kids..end of story. I got to the point were my imagination was actually TRYING to make me go places that the books werent taking me..One word..BORING! Then I started reading books by Heather Graham. I absolutly love an author who is willing to take a risk and write an ORIGINAL story! For me this was a 2 day read and only 2 days because I had to work, otherwise it would have been a one day read.

I won't rehash the story line because that has been done so many times allready..hopefully often enough so that perspective readers realize the original plot is well worth the chance that they will like it.

I absolutely loved it and honestly thought it ended the way it should. One more great book by Heather Graham. Happy Reading!!

5 out of 5 stars Great story.......2007-07-05

A well written, smooth flowing book. Loved the story, and it had an excellent ending that made me want to get more of Graham's books.

1 out of 5 stars i hated this book.......2007-06-17

Everyone is right who has written a review before myself. The ending of this book............ what can i say awful.......... i hated it. I have read everything heather graham has written. I get most of my books from the library. (thank goodness in this case). I waited a long time for this book to arrive. What a dissapointment!! i have to wonder if all the people who read this book before me was equally as disapointed.

This book is well written. I do not enjoy reviews that give too much of the storyline away, suffice I should say this book does not let me down from the previous Lieutenant Eve Dallas series. However, it will stand-alone, you do not have to read any other book in this series to know what is going on with it. I would not spoil it for you if I were to tell you that the murders start off extremely grisly and get very personal to the investigator. You gotta' love this book because, Lt. Eve will not stop until the killer is found. The suspense kept me going till the end.

This time around, Eve Dallas catches a case that has her professional life merging with her personal one.

When her friend Mavis is accused of murdering the former lover of her boyfriend, Dallas finds it difficult to gain enough facts to exonerate her -- especially since all of the evidence is pointing directly towards Mavis. Leonardo, Mavis' new love, has been hired to create Eve's wedding gown, but things turn ugly when Pandora, a high-class, world-renowned model and his former lover, turns up dead in his studio.

As Eve works to clear Mavis, things get worse when more people associated with Pandora start dying, and at the center is a new drug called Immortality.

This is another winner in the "...IN DEATH" series, and you'll do well to pick up a copy -- and read the series from the beginning!

5 out of 5 stars Great Series.......2007-05-21

Born in Death This series is great. The Author has created Charaters that keep you interested and are interesting. The stories move along and because the Year of the crimes, you get a view of what the future could hold. Eve Dallas is a strong woman, who shows that you can overcome your past.

5 out of 5 stars Immortal in Death.......2007-05-07

This like all of the in Death series is a delight to read. I Like the audio when I am working and listening to the reader makes you feel that each Charactor is talking.

5 out of 5 stars Arguably one of the best!!!.......2007-04-13

This book sees Eve in one of her most horrifying predicaments to date. She must balance career and romance, head and heart or risk losing herself amid the chaos that is her life...

It's hard enough trying to plan a wedding.... it's even harder still when you're Eve Dallas, tough-nosed "nothin' girly about me!" Cop Chick! Toss in a murder and make her best friend the prime suspect and you have all the makings of an absolutely wonderful story!

Just when it looks like Eve's life is finally coming together, everything explodes at once....

This was an excellent portrayal of just how strong Eve really is. Nora Roberts (writing as J.D. Robb) does a superb job weaving a tale through which Eve Dallas miraculously exits none the worse for wear!

A futuristic, science-fictiony tale with all the star wars and Harlequin romance you can handle....yet somehow you read this story as if you were living every second.

Positively masterful!

Again Nora Roberts has created a thrilling story that is all neatly placed into this short story. I took it with me to the beach and read all 90 plus pages and just enjoyed every minute of it as I took in a bit of sunshine. Roarke and Eve kept the pages burning and I thought the story moved along at a fast pace and it was very entertaining. Midnight in Death is a great addition to the series.
