Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

As though blowing oxygen upon the dying embers of a fire, pastor Jim Cymbala revived a broken-down church in a rough-shod inner-city neighborhood through Christian faith. Twenty-five years ago, the Brooklyn Tabernacle could barely draw 26 people to a Sunday service. Nowadays the congregation is 6,000 strong--filled with converted prostitutes, pimps, drug addicts, and homeless people, as well as yuppies and wholesome families. Although he's quick to give God credit for this miraculous success story, Cymbala admits that there may be a few human decisions that led to this Christian triumph. Most significantly, he made sure his church community embraced everyone, from all walks of life--no matter how distasteful or foreign. "Christians often hesitate to reach out to those who are different," according to Cymbala. "They want God to clean the fish before they catch them. If someone's gold ring is attached to an unusual body part, if the person doesn't smell the best or the skin color is not the same, Christians tend to hesitate." Thus, Cymbala encouraged his congregation to adopt the very same tolerant and accepting attitude as their God does. The results? Let's just say a church thrives in Brooklyn. Accomplished cowriter Dean Merrill helps this tender true story stay satisfying and highly readable. --Gail Hudson

5 out of 5 stars An Appeal to the Power of Prayer.......2007-08-15

The Brooklyn Tabernacle's commitment to prayer is well-represented in the work. Rev. Cymbala is truly a humble man of God who seeks not to elevate himself but the Mighty God he and his Church serves. In addition to the rich Scripture that is cited in this work, there are numerous testimonies to the power of prayer, and historical accounts of church leaders who made prayer a number one priority as well. I also appreciated the simple plea of prayer that Rev. Cymbala ascribes to. Today, there are a number of church leaders who promote special techniques for prayer such as position, geographic location, and so on. How refreshing it was to hear a pastor appeal to calling on the name of the Lord that rested on the grace of God and His mercy rather than an individual's unique performance.

Fresh Wind and Fresh Fire is a book, which will leave one in awe to the power of God that is released when people unite and call upon the Name of the Lord.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Prayer Motivator!.......2007-07-25

I lead a weekly prayer group at my church and was becoming discouraged due to poor participation from the congregation. After 2 1/2 years I was getting ready to throw in the towl, but reading Pastor Cymbala's book has breathed new life into me! This book was a major encouragement to me, both in my personal prayer life as well as my corporate rone. While the book is written very simply and does not go too deep into theology, it presents some wonderful insights into the power of prayer and how God has hard-wired this world to work through the prayers of His children. Would highly recommend this book for all believers, especially those in leadership roles.

5 out of 5 stars A Fresh Approach.......2007-04-27

Jim Cymbala brings us back to the basics of the early church. He demonstrates what happens when a church really starts to pray. The power talked about in the early church is still there.

Jim shows how we just have to let go of our formulas and programs, and we have to admit that our approach is not really calling down God's power. Real brokenness is essential for God's power to really flow, brokenness and a dedication to praying. This is what leads to spiritual breakthrough.

This is definitely a story of most of today's churches, and Jim shows us a way to focus on God's power. Do you believe that "great sermon" may stand in the way of god's moving?

The book is very readable.

1 out of 5 stars Stealing Money From The Schlubs.......2007-09-26

Okay, I have my MFA in screenwriting, and have read many a book on writing (and there are some very good ones out there). But if, like me, you want additional tools or methods to improve your story/writing/script, then this book is "practically" useless. I say "practically", because after spending half the book on the history of story and other incidentals (academic), the author reserves the last quarter of the book for a complicated bit of story construction/deconstruction mumbo-jumbo that was part Joseph Campbell, part mysticism, and part fevered-dream. There is no "practical" here. Oh, there are boxes for you to put your story into, then based on that box (or paradigm), specific paths for your story to follow. However, so many other books do it so much better (and more practically). Heck, read Michael Hague, he'll give you four fundamental hero types/goals; and read Joseph Campbell yourself. And for gosh sakes, there's nothing like reading screenplays.

The book made me mad. This much money for this little is a bookish crime.

4 out of 5 stars Slightly over my head.......2007-09-13

[3.5 stars]
I have to give this a three-and-a-half-star review, because like an opera viewer, while I can recognize the skill of the singers, I am technically inept at understanding the reasons for that skill.
This is advanced level writing, and I can sort of catch glimpses of brilliance in how the author describes story but, for me, that brilliance is frequently hidden from view by the ponderous language and the intricate psychological contrivances. I wanted to really understand this book, but I don't know if that's possible as a neophyte screenwriter. I believe this is a book I will return to when I have a bit more knowledge and confidence.
In the meantime, I will finish reading Syd Field.

3 out of 5 stars Lots of info but not motivational and boring.......2007-09-06

This is a book full of information on writing. It breaks down the task of writing into almost like a math problem or some sort of physics formula.

It's a good way to analyze your script when you are done but a beginner writer shouldn't be required to follow this formula or else the first draft of the script will never be done.

I got this book hoping to learn some tips on writing before I started my script but looking at the book, chapter titles and flipping through it reminded me of a calculus book.

The analysis was not motivational or interesting at all. It actually made me procrastinate on reading this book and also using it to help me write.

Don't get overwhelmed with these formulas and just start writing.

One good book is "Alone in a Room".

4 out of 5 stars Subconscious Source.......2007-08-31

This book came just in the nick of time for me. After my first re-write on a screenplay I needed something a little more abstract than 3 act structure descriptions. Stealing Fire gives an overview of what stories can be about as well as what they can mean to the viewer. It gave me new hope that creating stories that move audiences, is an important contribution to our social structure and evolving history. James Bonnet asks us to consider the archaic power of story lines and archetypes, the importance of story in every stage of life and to see that it is vital, after having come up with a passable story, to dig deeper and use intuition to start communicating with that muddy subconscious source within us to tell stories that inspire and ignite passion as well as entertain.

5 out of 5 stars one of the most stimulating books on storytelling.......2007-05-19

This second edition of James Bonnet's guide to storytelling expands on the original by some forty pages. Like Christopher Vogler, Bonnet is inspired by C. G. Jung and Joseph Campbell's works, so anyone acquainted with The Hero's Journey will feel at home immediately. However, Stealing Fire goes far beyond the basic hero myth. Bonnet traces the entire LIFE of the hero, from his auspicious beginnings to his final doom. In this way, he opens the door to telling other types of stories than the overexposed coming-of-age hero myth - and about time too.
Another important concept here is the `whole story', namely the entire sequence of events which form the backdrop and the future of the screenplay or novel. For instance, if we consider World War II to be a whole story, then Casablanca and Saving Private Ryan are specific moments of its storywheel.
Stealing Fire is an incredibly rich book, filled with ideas and concepts which stimulate the storytelling mind. However, it's not an `easy-to-use' method which depends on a single, easy to remember formula. The second edition material is mainly concerned with making the book more immediately practical for writers. It succeeds, but there are still many concepts and ideas here which could have been treated in more depth (for instance the Anti-Hero's Journey is described in just two pages). I also feel that the visual representation of the Golden Paradigm described here is too complex and abstract. Nevertheless, James Bonnet's book is thought-provoking, insightful and creatively exceptionally stimulating.

Book Description

Imagine you're a young boy—maybe as young as three or four—separated from your family by civil war, traversing deserts and mountains with little food or water, no medical care, and no protection from wild animals. Imagine watching hundreds of boys perish around you from hunger, disease, or attacks by enemy soldiers and wild animals. To most of us, it is unimaginable, but this was reality for "The Lost Boys of Sudan," thousands of young boys who were separated from their families and forced to walk approximately 1,000 miles to reach safe refuge from war and certain death.

For the first time, this award winning book offers readers a chronological timeline of the epic journey taken by these children, beginning in their rural villages of Southern Sudan and ending with their arrival as young men to the United States. Narrated through the voice of Joan Hecht, one of their American mentors, whom they lovingly call "mom" or "Mama Joan;" "The Journey of the Lost Boys" is a compelling story of courage, faith and the sheer determination to survive by a group of young orphaned boys. Because of Joan Hecht's personal relationship with them, she is able to portray their story in a way that most famous reporters and authors cannot. In addition to her extensive research of the political and historical events surrounding the long lasting civil war in Sudan, are the heart-rending personal stories and original drawings of the boys themselves. A must read for anyone interested in the the true story of the Lost Boys of Sudan!

5 out of 5 stars The tragedy of the children of Sudan.......2007-03-31

I can only summarize my comment about this book in a few words. The author Joan Hecht did a wonderful task in narrating the frightening and heartbreaking experience of the thousands of lost boys of the Sudan,Africa's largest country. Their dangerous journey involving thousands of miles in a very hostile landscape is incredible. The author's very kind heart, sincere consideration and admiration for these children is worth more than all the gold of the world. Very highly recommended for young and old.

5 out of 5 stars Learning about Sudan? START HERE.......2006-10-15

This is the book you need to read if you are unfamiliar with the background of the issues in Sudan, the Lost Boys, and the issues faced by refugees who come to America. Ms. Hecht might not be an " academic", but she is the person with an enormous amount of first hand information on these subjects, and she breaks it down into managable pieces. Even if you are knowledgable on these subjects, this book is still useful as a clarifying tool. Ms. Hecht is also very committed, and that comes through on every page.

5 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING BOOK .......2006-08-11

Readers of this book will be touched by the stories of these incredible young men, who, at an early age, were separated from their parents and families. The atrocities witnessed by the boys are unspeakable. The author has provided the readers with stories that make those who have lived a life without fear take a new appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy in the United States.

2 out of 5 stars A good term paper.......2006-07-26

The endless conflict in Sudan is another calamity that the press should have been bombarding us with daily for years. A tragedy of such dimensions should torment our collective conscience. This is exactly why it deserves a better telling than Ms. Hecht is able to offer us. The writing is amateurish and the text cries out for the editing it appears not to have been subjected to. Easy streamlining and the correction of some grammatical errors would make the book more readable and more powerful. Ms. Hecht's devotion to the cause of the Lost Boys is clearly sincere and praiseworthy, however, and she does deserve thanks for contributing to making us aware of the atrocities that go on in the world while we turn the other way.

5 out of 5 stars An accurate, heartfelt and well-written account.......2006-06-28

Joan Hecht's "Journey" is in this reviewer's opinion the most interesting and accurate book available on the topic of the Lost Boys. As a former foster father to one of the lost boys and a fellow author and researcher, I recommend the book without hesitation. It presents an extraordinarily complicated situation in a manner that is comprehensible, fascinating and accurate. It gives the reader a true sense of the horror, courage and hope that has gripped a generation of young Sudanese men.

For its rare photos, clear and organized presentation and sincere prose, I highly recommend this informative and inspiring book and thank the author for her outstanding efforts.

Book Description

"How do we deal with the pitfalls of life?" How do we deal with the experiences we all have of emotional, physical, and spiritual heights and depths? Bob Reccord presents Joseph of the Old Testament as the exemplary model. Forged by Fire uses the metaphor of a blacksmith's fire and anvil to teach us how experiences and circumstances mold us into the image of one who can be used by God. We may not always understand, but like Joseph, we need only to trust in our understanding of God's faithfulness and his sovereign grace.

4 out of 5 stars In The Dreadful Eyes of Burning Fire.......2007-02-01

The book Forged By Fire is about a boy and his little sister conquering and surviving fears with their family. After Gerald's Aunt died, he has been forced to move in with his mother, his little sister, and his mother's boyfriend, Jordan. While Gerald is there, he has to deal with Jordan abusing his family. Angel is also being sexual assaulted by Jordan. Jordan is than sent to jail. The question is is will Jordan get out of jail and come after Gerald's mother, his sister Angel, or even him? And/or will Gerald be able to provide for his sister more, since they are the only one's that have each other in life since their mother is an addict. I have to rate this book a four star because the story is a realistic fiction book, and children around the world go through things like this everyday. I recommend this book to anymore who is looking for a good book to read or wants to read a book dealing with real life situations.

Forged by Fire is a moving book that will make your emotions run through out your body. The book is a magnificent book that is a fictional drama written by Sharon M. Draper. It is about a young boy, named Gerald, whose like is like a nightmare when a fire occurs in the house. The fire changed his life for the better and he was able to live with his considerate Aunt Queen, who took great care of him through out his 6 years of living with her. But when his mom comes back after being in jail for several years, everything goes down hill and it gets worse when Aunt Queen unexpectedly dies. The mom ends up having to take in Gerald and he quickly learns he must protect his little sister, Angel, from their abusive stepfather, which they all secretly fear. However, to get the courage to do something about the pain and suffering might be the hardest challenge yet to come.
Forged by fire is a book that shows the strength and love people have for one another and the bravery one might have to risk for someone. This book has sequels. Tears of a Tiger and Darkness Before Dawn continue this thrilling story after the first book shuts. If you are the type that enjoys books that make you cry, laugh, and smile, then this is the book that you should be recommended to read, in hopes you will feel the same emotions others did.

Gerald goes through his life in a very suspense and dramatic atmosphere. He lived with his mom until he was three and was hurt in a fire. His mom, a drug addict, was taken away. Many years later after living with his aunt, his mom came back on his birthday with a man and a new child, by the name of Angel. A dramatic scene occurs, which forces Gerald to move in with his mom. His mom, Monique, had a boyfriend that didn't treat them nice at all. He treated Gerald's young, skinny, but beautiful sister in the cruelest ways possible. Their stepfather is as hurtful as a fire in a forest.
When Gerald was finally settled with basketball, another horrifying problem occurred. I got so into the book during this interesting, but extremely emotional ending. I loved the description and I could tell the Author really caught my attention to this book.
Read this suspenseful book, it will blow your mind away! It made me want to never stop flipping the pages. This is an amazing book for anyone, talking about a teenagers struggle threw life. After reading this book, you can read the rest of the series to figure out how there life went. This Sharon M. Draper novel is only $5.99. This book was published in 1997 by Simon Pulse. Read all of the fascinating Hazelwood Books: Tears of a Tiger, and Darkness Before Dawn.

How much are kids suppose to go through? Well young Gerald has a tuff life as a child. He goes through countless hardships and dangers many kids do not experience that early on in life. When his caring aunt dies, he is forced to live with his drug addicted mom and his new step dad, Jordan. While he was living with his loving aunt for nine years, several things happened he did not know about, his mom remarried and had a baby, named Angel. Gerald figured out what was most important while living with his mom, new dad, and new sister. After going through many painful and emotional months of abuse, Gerald decided that something had to be done. Will Gerald be able to stop his abusing stepfather for the last time? Or will he keep living through abuse, hatred, and betrayal?
I tremendously recommend this book to any person who wants to learn how to deal with death, love, and life. Forged by Fire gives a detailed explanation of what some teenagers go through and how the deal with it. To Gerald, life is like a nightmare that he has been trapped in. What made this book great was the love, hurt, and friendship that is scattered throughout the book. Even though the book has immense emotion, it at the same time shows what we, as humans, do in time of need.

Forged by Fire is a book written by Sharon Diaper and is very touching. When Gerald was six, his warm loving aunt died. He is sent to a home where his brutal step dad abuses and molests him and his sister, Angel, and their mom does drugs. When Gerald finds Angel crying with her dad touching her, in bad places, he turns to someone he can trust, Mr. Washington. Jordan is put on trial and is found guilty for abuse and for molestation. However, that is not where it ends.
When Jordan comes back, Angle and Gerald are a lot older. Jordan says he has changed, but they don't believe him. Jordan once again, starts to beat them.
A few weeks later Angel is home alone, Gerald is on his way back from school. Angle is making some hot dogs then walks in the drunken Jordan, screaming furiously. He screams he wants to play some "games", but she pleads no. While this is happening, Gerald is sprinting up the stairs because their apartment is in flames. Gerald finds them and tells them to get out of the apartment, but Jordan doesn't get out. He tries to swing at Gerald. Gerald leg gets broken and Jordan tries to get out. He falls right before the door, dead and Gerald and Angle trip over him. They land in the hallway and the firefighters find them.
Forged by Fire is like a car crash, you don't know if you're going to live.

For those seeking the face of God this book will change your life. The fire is a cleansing like no other. Sergio will lead you into the presence of God and if you will die to yourself God will completely transform your life. My life has been forever changed, it is now totally 100% in the hands of God ! May your experience with the Father be as awesome or even stronger than mine. Remember, it's His Holiness we seek. Praise Jesus Christ of Nazareth!

5 out of 5 stars Every Christian should read this book!.......2002-11-06

If you are hungry for a deeper walk with God you MUST read this book. The author describes in the first chapter a manifestation of the Holy Spirit that changed his life. He proceeds to exhort the reader to pursue this "FIRE" in their own lives and gives a wealth of material to help you get there.

The key is that we serve a holy God that requires for us to also be holy, but holiness is not a code of rules. Rather it's a pursuit of being like Him and with Him. As we dwell in His holy presence, we are made in His image.

Holiness is a process that takes work, time, and discipline. If holiness is your desire this book can help you achieve it.

5 out of 5 stars Enthusiastically recommended reading for spiritual growth........2001-01-05

In A More Ardent Fire: From Everyday Love To Love Of God, Eknath Easwaran presents love between individuals as a training ground for developing a unified love that will lead to the changeless reality beyond time or death. Easwaran draws inspiration from the lives of lovers of God from many religions to show that it is by deepening and strengthening our capacity to love people around us that we travel the most direct route to a love of God. A More Ardent Fire is enthusiastically recommended reading for anyone seeking spiritual growth, improved personal relationships, and a closer connection with God.

5 out of 5 stars Ho Hum . . . Another Great Book by Sri Easwaran.......2000-08-31

If you've read Sri Easwaran in the past or are a student of his work, you're already well aquainted with the content and style of "A More Ardent Fire." In this, his last book, he uses the 20 verses of the 12th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita as jumping-off points to expand upon his method of meditation and the allied disiplines. But mainly, and most importantly, this is a book about learning how to put others first. As Easwaran says in the intro, "Love is a skill that every one of us can learn - not merely for personal enrichment, but so that deepening and strengthening our relationships becomes a sure, swift path toward making God a reality in our daily lives."

Easwarn may well be the most practical spiritual teacher to ever put pen to paper. His methods will appeal to and can be practised by people from all traditions as well as those from none. For better or worse, I have read countless books on spirituality(Buddhism, Vedanta, Esoteric Christianity, etc.) and the more I read and study the more I am amazed at how comprehensive Easwaran's program really is. Though I no longer follow his method of passage meditation - having been called or led as it were to a simpler approach - I still draw heavily from this and his other works for inspiration. One can do no better for sheer practicality and applicability of the material. Other's may be more well-known or flambouyant, but Sri Easwaran was a truly unique spiritual giant and we are all lucky to have access to his wisdom.

Hesitantly I would add, that while I've gained much from Easwaran's and other commentaries, I've come to believe that it's far more important to let scripture speak directly to your own heart. Find translations you enjoy and open yourself to them. Let them hit you where you are. The Gita itself says it is far better to follow one's owm dharma, calling, Ideal, than to follow another's. Or as the Buddha put it: Be a light onto yourself.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book on the Intensity of God's Love!.......2006-05-19

Bob Sorge has done it again! He's written yet another fantastic book. I first became acquainted with the works of this fine author while browsing on Amazon one day, and quite by accident(no...more like divine providence), I came across "Secrets of the Secret Place," a book that changed my life. I was so impressed after reading "Secrets of the Secret Place" that I sought other books by Bob Sorge and discovered "The Fire of God's Love." I was tremendously blessed by this reading experience. It offers fresh revelatory insight into the dynamics of being a servant to God, friendship with God, and intimacy with Him. In today's humanistic society, sometimes Christians can be seduced by "another gospel" that purports a guarantee from God of a care-free life loaded with unimaginable material abundance, divine health, and the absence of suffering. However, in "The Fire of God's Love," Sorge makes it clear through the Scriptures that suffering for the Christian is unavoidable in this hostile world. He gives compelling reasons for our suffering:

    1. it brings us to a greater level of spiritual maturity
    2. it burns off impurities in our flesh, clearing the way for us to walk in the Spirit
    3. it brings us into greater fellowship with Jesus
    4. it reveals a deeper dimension of God's love
    5. it is the only way that we can identify and partner with Christ's suffering

We're reminded that God's ways are not our ways, He's still sovereign, and there is a divine purpose for our pain. For it is out of our pain that we give birth to great spiritual blessings that not only draw us closer to the Father's bosom, but also have eternal value. Chapter 28 entitled, "The Ultimate Pinnacle," gives the reader a fresh look at a familiar passage of scripture, Romans 8:28-39. Of course, we've heard the Christian "mantra" time and time again that we are more than conquerors, however Sorge illuminates this scripture in context. He points out that even though the rigors of life (tribulations, distress, persecutions, poverty, etc.) have left us weak, broken and hurting, we can still wave our victory banner because although it looks like we're losing, we still win. The fact that we have God's magnificent love sustaining us makes us winners.

If we can express our love toward God in the midst of our pain, even when we don't understand His movement in our lives; if we can suffer without complaining, and still remain in hot pursuit of God; if we can worship Him in the midst of a crisis realizing that He uses our circumstances to bring about divine purpose in our lives, it is then that we have pleased the Father. For God does not exist for us; we exist for Him, and it should be our pleasure to please Him. The author uses the martyrdom of Stephen as just such an example of a suffering saint who looked like he was defeated, but emerged more than a conqueror. As Stephen was being stoned to death, he never complained--he never rebuked nor reviled his attackers. Instead he just kept loving God, which was evidenced by the fact that as he was dying he continued calling on the name of the Lord and prayed for his murderers. In spite of this most brutal and horrific circumstance, which resulted in his death, Stephen emerged the victor because Jesus, who was seated at the right hand of the Father, was so impressed by Stephen's love and dedication that He rose from His seated position and, with a standing ovation, welcomed His conqueror home (Acts 7:55-56).

Section V deals with the allegory of the Song of Solomon--Christ's relationship with His Bride, the Church. In this section Sorge examines the different levels of consecration in the life of the Christian. He starts with chapter 19 pointing out the nuances of our fervency for Christ during the honeymoon stage of our union. Chapters 20-23 stays with the theme of the Song of Solomon examining the progressive stages of intensity in our passion for the Lord as we mature in our relationship with Him. The author makes it clear that along our journey toward spiritual maturity we will, of course, encounter opposition from our enemy, Satan. This opposition comes in the form of pain, suffering and obstacles and is ultimately designed to keep us from passionately pursuing our Saviour. However, Sorge encourages the reader through the Word of God to persevere and keep loving God knowing also that the Lord rewards our diligence.

"The Fire of God's Love" will help you to appreciate the intensity of His love for us and the joy that comes from loving and obeying Him passionately whether you're in the valley or on top of the mountain.

    5 out of 5 stars Pain Has a Purpose.......2001-09-15

All throughout my life I have experienced emotional pain and sometimes physical pain. More recenlty I have been healed in many areas but this book explained the why of suffering better than any other teaching I have ever been exposed to. I want all my friends to read it. I loaned it to my pastor and to a co-minister as they also have been through much suffering and yet are faithful to God. It is good to be in the company of Bob Sorge and people such as these men I know. Somtimes we need to be encouraged by someone who has been there and understands what it's all about and has revelation as to God's purpose in it all. It has confirmed the peace I have been feeling in my spirit.

5 out of 5 stars Best Christian book I've ever read.......1999-12-10

If God has a call on your life this book is a must read. The Fire of God's Love brings revelation of the Love of God and the Ways of God with fresh insight. Sections are entitled: Furnace of Love, The Cross, Motivations of the Heart, Friendship with God, The Song of Solomon, and The Greatest is Love. I've studied and read in each of these areas seperately, but never before found these vital truths wound together in such a life-giving way. The author, Bob Sorge, is sharing spiritual revelations that will hit your spirit and change your life, because his life has been changed through the Fire of God's Love. You won't regret getting a copy of this book, it will be some of the best money you've ever invested.
