Customer Reviews:
Different Brains, Different Learners.......2005-08-28
A great book for teachers as well as parents. It helps to understand what is or may be happening in the brain. I like the recommendations given on ways we can help alleviate stressful events under given conditions.
Lacking.......2003-01-21
This book lacks the depth it seems to promise. Some of the illustrations are lacking. There is not enough meat to help anyone with special needs learners. I would suggest you look elsewhere. I was greatly disappointed since the majority of work by Jensen is wonderful.
Essential reading for all teachers.......2001-09-10
Eric Jensen knows the needs of busy teachers and has the gift in helping them to utilize up-to-date knowledge in brain studies. Here it is applied to identifying 10 types of different learners: 1. impulsive ones with ADD, 2. resigned with learned helplessness, 3. challenged reader with dyslexia, 4. argumentative with oppositional disorder, 5. frustrated with learning delayed, 6. hyperactive, 7. with auditory-processing deficits, 8. out of control, 9. the demotivated with chronic threat and distress, and 10. depressed and troubled.
You are given a pre-test and a post-test of 10 unique students to see if you can identify the patterns of symptoms rather than isolated behaviors. There are many color-prints of corresponding brain-images and graphic charts that facilitate learning. Brief summaries of treatment methods, supplementary resources on books, websites and organizations are given on each type. All teachers should acquire such general background knowledge so that the unqiue needs and gifts of students can be respected.

Great Halo Books.......2007-10-02
These books are great for any Halo fan fan and are very much informative about things like the spartan program. This is a must buy set for any true Halo fan, or just a reader who wants a great set of books to read. Halo, Books 1-3 (The Flood; First Strike; The Fall of Reach)
Awesome...That's all I can say right now........2007-09-26
These books were truely great. William C. Deitz rewened Halo: the Flood which is the only one that has parts from the game. But that book was still good. I'll admit, the parts about Captin Keyes in Halo: Fall of Reach (him alone) doing his little thing got really boring but nothing important was in that part so I skipped it. But the whole rest of the book was kick-a$$. Halo: Firt Strike was great, along side Halo: Fall of reach, maybe even a little beter than Fall of Reach. I have read all of these books 3 or 4 times. Unfortunately I got a little water on one of the books....
Halo ruined my life.......2007-09-16
Fall of Reach was such a good addition to the Halo story line. It details all of the events that lead up to the first Halo game, and how the SPARTAN program came to be.
The Flood was, well, essentially a written version of the game. It's good in the sense that you get to see the story from the Covenants perspective, but it just drags on for some time as it details every shot and grenade that the chief fires.
First Strike was, by far, my favorite of the three. It details the events that happen on Reach while the Covenant are glassing the planet. Something is on Reach that the Covenant want really bad.
Watch out for the spelling errors in First Strike and Fall of Reach though, lawl.
Great Set.......2007-09-03
this is actually my second set i bought; i think i lent my first set to a friend who i no longer remember and therefore cannot get back from. obviously i liked these books enough to buy them again despite the fact that i might find my old ones later.
Very nice series.......2007-08-25
Provides a broadened view of the game series. Going back to playing the game knowing all this backstory makes it feel that much more epic.
As for the books themselves, they are well-written, and the story is top-notch.

Book Description
Achieve financial security in 90 minutes or less.
Daniel Solin cuts through financial propaganda to show readers exactly how assets should be invested, using trusted, brand name fund managers like Fidelity and Vanguard. Solin's easy-to-follow plan allows investors to create and monitor their portfolios in 90 minutes or less a year, explaining how to assess risk and how to allocate assets to maximize returns and minimize volatility. Readers will also learn how to avoid the biggest mistakes investors make, from buying into media hype to giving their hard earned cash to hyperactive brokers and investment advisors.

The Smartest Investment Book You'll Ever Read (Unabridged)This book is for certain investors who do not want to
be daily envolved in investing. It is easily understood and can have
real meaning for that group of people
Love it!.......2007-07-31
I absolutely enjoyed listening to it. It was a little bit boring in the beginning but at the end Don Solin gives you advise what to do. I will take his advise once I have some money saved up and invest it to see if it works! I sure it does!
Really, really simple; but really, really effective.......2007-06-28
I don't think I've ever read a simpler book on investing. I think I finished it in two hours or less, and though it obviously lacks a lot of detail, I can't say there's anything really important that was left out.
Solin spends a lot of time describing investment traps to avoid, such as active management and other, high-cost strategies. Then he spends a very few pages describing a very simple way to construct a diversified, low-cost portfolio of mutual funds. He suggests specific allocations in just a handful of specific funds in specific fund families for specific types of investors. Literally, all you have to do is pick which kind of investor you are and then just follow the allocations Solin suggests. Rebalance once or twice a year, and you're set. Even my sister could do it in 30 minutes or less per year.
It may be hard for people to believe that such a simple strategy could work, but decades of research show that a simple, low-cost, diversified portfolio outperforms the vast majority of actively managed funds, and with relatively little risk.
The advice to "Keep it simple, stupid!" was never so appropriate.
I highly recommend this book.
A classic book on investing.......2007-06-22
I agree with the other reviewers that this book is an outstanding essay for those who want to learn how to invest. For the average investor to avoid uncompensated risk one must use an index mutual fund that has a sufficient number of issues to virtually eliminate uncompensated risk. To accomplish this an index fund is the only practical solution. Index funds and Exchange Traded Funds are available for this purpose. We call the excess return over and above the market return the value premium. Value stocks do provide returns in excess of broad market returns but in order to have adequate diversification you must assemble several hundred issues well beyond the resources of the average investor. For the period 1964 to 2000 large cap value stocks outperformed large cap growth stocks 14.5% to 11.1% and for small cap stocks 16.6% to 12%. These are huge differences. Solin's comments on small cap value stocks ignor that they can be part of a portfolio and when they are that the return is commensurate with the risk assummed. The same comment applies to the large-cap value asset class.
The book is very skinny for the price and I believe there are other books that offer as good advise but go into the subject in a little more more depth.
I can offer a solution to this problem. I want to recommend to you a book titled How to Make Money in the Stock Market-Buy 2,500 different stocks for $1000 - Pay no Commission This book is a must for those wanting to find out about indexing (passive investing) and why it is the superior method for the small investor (and big one too). This book is an outstanding guide to personal investing. It will be useful to all investors from novices to highly the highly experienced. This book prepares the reader to approach investing from the standpoint of the underlying science. It is the antithesis of a 'get rich quick scheme'.
All aspects of Modern Portfolio Theory and passive (index) investing are explained in a through and easily understood manner. The aspect I like most is that as well as a solid theoretical foundation the book is very practical and shows the reader how to create (and more importantly) and manage over time a successful portfolio. This is a great book- for the beginning investor, it's a great place to start and for the experienced investor there are many valuable suggestions.
It's a shame to think of how much money investors have lost "investing" in the stock market over the years. I wish I had read this little book years ago. The chapter on automatic investing recommends a number of portfolios that follow modern portfolio theory and adjust risk as you age without any effort on the part of the reader at all. Had this book been written years ago and had I followed its directions I would be rich today of that I am certain. Nevertheless I will pursue one of the portfolios recommended and stick to it as my investing plan.

Knowing that a company cannot grow without until its leaders grow within, John Maxwell encourages you to grow your organization by growing your leaders.
Developing leadership qualities in others is the way to ensure success in today's competitive world because the one asset that truly appreciates within any organization is people. People can grow, develop, and become more effective if they have a leader who understands their potential value.
Customer Reviews:
No successor/no success.......2007-05-09
I like the premise of this book: take care of your network and they will return the favor.
"The determination of a positive or negative outcome in my leadership depends upon my ability as a leader to develop those closest to me. It also depends upon my ability to recognize the value that others can give my organization and me. My goal is not to draw a following that results in a crowd. My goal is to develop leaders who become a movement....Leaders create and inspire new leaders."
He even quotes Druker--"There is no success without a successor" -- Peter Drucker
Good but not Great.......2007-04-10
I have to admit that I didn't care for this as much as most of John Maxwell's other books. The information is great and there are a lot of points that can be pulled from this, but it just felt like the book was a bunch of lists within lists. It was actually difficult to digest.
This is one of those books that you can really only read a few pages at a time instead of trying to take in a bunch in one sitting. But even doing this, you'll find that each list is often accompanied by sub-lists and even sub-lists of sub-lists. Again, all the information is great, but you get lost a bit on what list you're reading.
With that said, Developing is still a must-read for any business leader, manager or supervisor. Maxwell provides the framework for not only finding but creating great leaders within your organization. He takes you through the process step by step (and step within step) of why and how to turn your employees into a strong leadership team.
good book.......2007-02-10
This book is a great book with tons of information and set out with a great spiritual strength. Reading level is medium difficulty but worth the personal stretch.
Excellent!!.......2006-03-11
I am addicted to John Maxwell's books on leadership! This one is excellent! It challenges you to become a strong leader in order to develop leaders. Maxwell always presents information in a way that is challenging and he gives practical ways to put new skills into action. If you are leading a corporation or a small group I think you would benefit from this book.
Teacher & Engineer.......2005-02-10
This is one of the best books I have ever read in term of the leadership development.

Book Description
Some children learn easily, while others struggle. How can teachers make sure that every child has opportunities to develop his or her talents? The answer is differentiation: changing the pace, level, or kind of instruction in response to learners' needs, styles, and/or interests. In this timely, practical guide, Diane Heacox presents a menu of strategies for any teacher faced with a spectrum of student needs and styles. Some are quick and easy-differentiating discussions, creating tiered assignments. Others are more comprehensive-matrix plans for designing curriculum units, "one-sentence lesson plans" that encompass content, process skills, and evidence of learning. Individual chapters focus on evaluation in a differentiated classroom and how to manage both behavior and work tasks. Diane describes ways to get to know your students and recognize that all have strengths and limitations. Not every gifted student is always ready for higher-level thinking; not every child with learning differences is always incapable of succeeding in a "higher group." Any curriculum can be differentiated-even a standard or mandated curriculum. Drawing on Bloom's Taxonomy, Gardner's Multiple Intelligences, other experts in the field, and her own experience in the classroom, Diane explains how to differentiate instruction in a wide variety of scenarios to provide variety and challenge in how teachers teach and in how students learn. Templates and forms simplify planning; examples illustrate differentiation in many content areas. Recommended for all teachers committed to reaching and teaching all learners. Includes reproducibles.
Customer Reviews:
Great for teachers "new" to differentiation.......2007-07-27
Yes, differentiation is the latest and greatest buzzword. But do people really know how to differentiate and why?
I have found this book to be helpful. I am a new teacher and found myself immersed in a classroom my first year with an inner city mixed age-group class (4th and 5th graders). I had children in my room performing as low as 2nd grade and as high as 7th grade. All in one room. This isn't uncommon nowadays and Diane Heacox's book has shown me how to set up for a successful differentiated classroom environment from the beginning of the year. Yes, almost all teachers differentiate -- but having true and useful strategies to implement from the start makes it easier to accomplish.
Heacox advises, several times, to start slowly and only do what works at first. She also says it may be necessary to differentiate only one subject this year and do another next year and so on to keep yourself from getting overwhelmed. I thought the pace was good and her examples really helped a visual person like myself to see the "big picture". I am excited to use the Learning Styles and Multiple Intelligences information she includes in the book with my next class. Best of all, she provides examples of how to explain differentiation to parents and administrators.
New to differentiation?.......2007-06-27
I found this book to be terrific! It answered all of my questions. I used the student survey with my 9th grade students and they loved it! I even use the matrix plans for every unit I teach. This book covers it all - placing students in groups (how to place students in groups using differentiation), tiering assignments, grading (is differentiation fair), classroom management (how do I manage 30 students doing 30 different activities), and special populations (exceptional, gifted, and regular education). I have read other books on differentiation put out by ASCD, but this one you can really apply to your classoom!
Necessity for Differentiation.......2007-06-05
I attended a workshop by Ms. Heacox. Since I can't have her come help me in my classroom, I got this book instead. It's excellent for all grade levels. A great resource for the basics of how to differentiate and why.
A Good Place to Start.......2006-12-01
Differentiation is one of the current buzzwords, and lots of people talk about it...in theory. It's really difficult to find ANYONE who talks about it in PRACTICE. Heacox, while still heavy in theory, goes farther than any other authors I've read so far on the subject in actually giving teachers usuable tools for curriculum writing and developing. Could there be more immediately applicable things? Of course. Still, it's come the closest to giving teachers some tangible strategies and activities that I've found.
Great Resources!.......2006-09-23
This is a great resource for planning and coming up with projects for a wide range of students. Every time I refer to it, it opens my eyes to something more.

Book Description
In The Missional Leader, consultants Alan Roxburgh and Fred Romanuk give church and denominational leaders, pastors, and clergy a clear model for leading the change necessary to create and foster a missional church focused outward to spread the message of the Gospel into the surrounding community. The Missional Leader emphasizes principles rather than institutional forms, shows readers how to move away from “church as usual,” and demonstrates what capacities, environments, and mindsets are required to lead a missional church.
Customer Reviews:
Parts very good.......2007-05-13
I'll be usng this book for a class that I am teaching. It covers the basics of "missional church" all right, but the strength of the book is chapters 3-5, where a change strategy for adopting missional church paradigm is lifted up. The last chapters, on leadership, I found less helpful in part because it is grounded not to the experience of a church becoming "missional" but to the author's evaluation instrument. The authors acknowledge but underestimate the membership loss that comes from adopting the missional paradigm: they estimate 10 to 15%, without systemmatic research I have found closer to 50% loss in several cases in the UCC.
the real deal.......2006-11-02
Alan Roxburgh has finally pulled together all the pieces that he has been writing about and teaching for a number of years. Some of this stuff he taught in a course I took with him 14 years ago at McMaster. He highlights the character required, the skills required, and the processes required, of pastors seeking to innovate toward the missionally-engaged congregation. There are far too many people using the term "missional" to signify whatever they want. Alan and the others in the Gospel and Culture Network are giving us principles, practice and definitions that do justice to what Newbigin meant when he started some of us using the term long before it became vogue.

Pat Summitt has been called a living legend. As head coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Vols, Summitt has taken her NCAA Division 1 women's basketball team to back-to-back national championships in 1996 and 1997, and five titles in a 10-year span. In Reach for the Summit, with the help of former Sports Illustrated writer Sally Jenkins, she draws from 24 years as a successful head coach to provide motivational advice for anyone who wants to succeed in sports, business, and life in general. Structured around her Definite Dozen system, each chapter covers one of her 12 commandments of achievement by interweaving personal anecdotes, strategies for success, and basic ethics. A lot of people can win once, she writes. They get lucky, or follow their intuition, or strike on a good short-term formula. But very few people know how to repeat success on a consistent basis. They lose sight of their priorities, grow content, and abandon their principles. Summitt's book is about building a system of principles and sticking to it.
Book Description
Pat Summitt, head coach of the Tennessee Lady Vols, is a phenomenon in women's basketball. Her ferociously competitive teams have won three NCAA championships in a row--1996, 1997, and 1998. The 1997-98 Lady Vols posted a historic 39-0 record, prompting the
New York Times, among many others, to proclaim them "the best women's college team ever." Now, in this groundbreaking motivational book, Pat Summitt presents her formula for success, which she calls the "Definite Dozen System." In each of the book's twelve chapters, Summitt talks about one of the system's principles--such as responsibility, discipline, and loyalty--and shows how you apply it to your own situation. Along the way, she uses her own remarkable story as a vehicle for explaining how anyone can transform herself through ambition. Pat Summitt will motivate you to achieve in sports, business, and the most important game of all--life.
Download Description
Weaving stories of her medal-winning trips to the Olympics and her experience as a college coach, Summit delivers an uplifting message for anyone with the desire to succeed in sports, business, and life.
Customer Reviews:
Good enough to read once........2006-02-25
Reach for the Summit was an easy read. My goal was to read the book for its explanation of the 12 disciplines which are used for all activities in life, not just for basketball. There were more examples of the disciplins than philosophy. I am sure if one is passonate about basketball they will get more out of it than I did. Disciplines were common sense. Nothing new, but the examples were interesting enough. I thought enough of it to give it to my 14 year son to read. I believe he will get more out of it than I did, simply because of his love of sports. He will benefit from seeing the coach's side of view. Good enough to read through once.
OK, but not for everyone.......2005-12-02
YES, I GAVE IT ONLY 2 STARS! I have read alot of motivational books in my life time but this one leaves you empty. Patt Summitt does not give a "one-size fits all" approach to obtaining Life's goals as she suggest. Pat Summitt gives these long drawn out stories of her coaching experience and players experience then, at the very end, ties it to a generic principle of leadership that has been rehash by hundred of other motivational book writers. I'm not hating on her leadership or abilities. She has proven herself a dynamic coach. If you're a HS/college couch of any sport then this is the book for you! but for the rest of us her approaches to leadership do not necessarily translates to pearls of wisdom.
Reach for the Summit.......2005-10-28
The book Reach for the Summit, by Pat Summit, is one of my all time favorite books. Pat shares some of her most intimate and personal struggles and she shows how she got to the top. Pat Summit is the most winningest coah is the history of the WNCAA, she even has a basketball statium named after her, The Summit.
In the book Pat describes how to make it in life and how to strive to be the best on the baketball floor and in every day struggles. The reason why I like this book so much is because I can feel comfertable taking advice from the head coah of the Tennessee Lady Vols. There are two different people in the world in my oppinion, the people who look up to Pat as a role model, and the peopl who disagree with her standards, but one thing is for certain you have to give credit to the woman who basicaly put womens college basketball on the map.
You can't argue with success -- so give this Tennessee gal her due.......2005-09-06
No one basketball coach in the history of the game -- man or woman -- has won more games or been more successful than Pat Head Summitt.
And whether you happen to like her -- or not -- you just have to give this home-grown Tennessee gal her due.
Published in 1998 and written in conjunction with renowned sportswriter Sally Jenkins, this book chronicles Summitt's personal recipe for success, as described in the subtitle as "The Definitive Dozen System for Succeeding at Whatever You Do."
Today, seven years later, I seriously doubt if Summitt has altered her recipe one bit.
The Summitt system applies not only to basketball, or to coaches, but to anyone interested in reaching higher, to succeeding, or just plain winning.
I recently took a graduate level project management leadership class, which included Myers-Briggs and Kiersey personality typing. I happened to belong to the ESTJ type, as does Coach Summitt, which made her particularly interesting to me.
I am a coach myself, and a basketball fan, though not necessarily of Tennessee, which can best be described as the New York Yankees of women's college basketball. I follow the Stanford Cardinal, who enjoy a particularly healthy rivalry with the Lady Vols, and have watched Coach Summitt pace the sidelines up close and personal. A few years ago I had the pleasure of hearing her speak at a local bookstore here in California, thousands of miles from her home turf, and couldn't help but walk away impressed.
And when I'm not cursing Summitt, I'm loving her. Who can't? A master motivator, tactician and self-confessed workaholic, there's not a Fortune 500 CEO alive who couldn't learn a thing or two from her competitive spirit, winning methodology and ethical excellence.
She not only talks the talk, she walks the walk, so whatever you do don't get in her way. But if you do, when the final horn sounds, she'll be the first to shake your hand and buy the first round. She honors the game with every breath she takes.
You can easily read this book in a day, but its message will last a lifetime.
Play hard, have fun.
Type A personality in a woman's basketball program........2004-05-06
I enjoyed this book because Pat is definetely old school when she comes to her coaching and managing. I think as America has become a rich country, hard driving individuals like Pat and her parents have become downgraded as more people opt for the human relations style management. Pat proves that the hard driven type management is still very effective in motivating people to their best. In this book, Pat describes both her personal and professional experiences and how that has changed her to the coach she is today. Nothing beats success, and Pat's championships prove her way can make results.
This book is a surprisely good read on leadership and managing. It is applicable to both sports and business. The personal and professional stories prove that Pat's way is still effective in today's world.

This is where its at.......2007-07-03
This book is right on. If we all were able to show Christ to the world around us the way the book encourages us to do, we would live in a different world. This is a must read for anyone wanting to make an impact on the world they live in.
Church of Irresistibel Influence.......2006-02-25
This is an excellent book for anyone who is concerned about reaching their community with the gospel. It is a different approach to the challenge that churches face today in our culture where the local church has often become irrelevant in the eyes of the community.
Worth reading for every church leader..........2006-01-31
"The Church of Irresistible Influence" is one of the most compelling books that I've ever read about what the church can and should be. I'm not one to casually embrace huge concepts on a whim, so I'm not yet convinced that every notion from this book is appropriate or even workable in many churches. In fact, Lewis' church has undergone some significant organizational changes since he wrote the book. I would be most intrigued to read a sequel that describes the process of becoming a church of irresistible influence after several more years of experience.
In any case, perfect model or not, Lewis presents many extremely dynamic examples of how his church (and, more specifically, the people within his church) began to impact the Little Rock community in amazing ways. It's great to read those stories of connection, blessing, and service, particularly as so many churches are becoming painfully aware of how useless they really are to their communities.
I would strongly recommend this book to any modern church leader, not because I think that every church should adopt this exact model of church structure, but because it presents some big issues and paradigm-shifting ideas that have the potential to totally redefine the impact of the American church. It just might totally rearrange the way you think about church!!
An Excellent Guide.......2005-03-05
This book is an excellent, balanced, scriptural view of the need for the church to be engaged in outreach. It is not only a good view, theoretically, but it is extremely practical and motivational. Even though Fellowship Bible church has moved on from the approach described here, it is still an excellent stepping stone for a growing church.
Move on out!.......2004-03-24
Church is not just about a service on Sunday - but about becoming prepared to really live God's Word - and then living in the Word in our communities. What an inspiration. And I am not a Pastor ... just one of the congregation!

Great information for parents too!.......2007-05-30
My daughter's teacher loaned me this book after I shared with her my frustration over understanding "how" my daughter thinks and how to help her with her homework and life in general. If you don't have ADD you can't understand why things that seem perfectly logical to you make no sense what so ever to the person with ADD. I sat down thinking I would flip through and read a few passages...I've been reading for two hours now and an hour ago got paper and pen to start taking notes. There are too many notes! I'm now ordering the book for myself. I have read many books on ADD and this is the first one I've found that gives clear detailed advice on ways to "teach" your child some impulse control, and help her improve her concentration and study skills...BEFORE jumping right to medication treatment.
Understanding ADHD .......2007-05-04
As an educator, I appreciate the usefulness of this book. This edition captures Sandra Reif's passion for teaching ADHD students and makes it easier for teachers to better understand their needs. I highly recommend this practical book.
Excellent.......2007-04-12
Practical, easy to follow, hands on ideas regarding teaching children with ADD / ADHD in the classroom. The information and ideas in this book have helped me deal more effectively with all children, including those with ADD / ADHD.

Book Description
Written by Gilead Sher, the Israeli Chief of Staff during the tumultuous 1999-2001 peace negotiations, this book gives an overview of the Israel-Palestine conflict, examining the core issues of contention, the various 'players' and the possible solutions formulated during the peace process effort.
Delivering a comprehensive fast paced description and analysis of the Middle East peace process, the book sheds new light on the complicated and circuitous negotiations held between the Israelis, Palestinians, Egyptians, Americans and numerous other intermediaries. Sher presents concise contextual background and insightful analysis of the political, economic, social and cultural reasons that led to the breakdown of the process and the consequent eruption of bloody violence.
A bestseller in Israel, The Israeli-Palestinian Peace Negotiations 1999-2001 has been praised by critics and embraced by readers on all sides of the political spectrum. The former Prime Minister Ehud Barak hailed it as'The best book there is or ever will be on the process.' Contributing a new dimension to the current literature on the Middle East peace process, the book provides a fresh understanding of the link between the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the current global threats of Islamic fanaticism and international terrorism.
Customer Reviews:
Well Balanced.......2007-06-07
Mr Sher writes a well balanced book in a very clear writing style which enables everyone to understand the complex process of negotiations.
Although with sadness I knew the outcome, I still felt hopeful throughout that the team would be able to secure a peace for both peoples.
This book is well balanced, Mr Sher giving fair criticism where due regardless of who it is and despite the disappointing outcome, he does not malign anyone involved.
I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to know more of the situation faced by all who live in the Land.
Essential Reading for the Arab-Israeli Scholar.......2006-08-26
Gilead Sher spoke yesterday at the Middle East Institute in DC on the newly-translated English edition of his negotiating memoir, Within Reach. It was a total hit, and anyone who wants the cliff notes should check it out on CSPAN.
I was so pleased to discover that Mr. Sher is not only a great orator and public speaker, but a gifted writer as well. His book explains the negotiating process that Sher directed on behalf of the State of Israel. It was, no doubt, a painful personal ordeal, and in rich detail Sher tells us his point of view--from the Camp David 2000 summit to the dozens of covert meetings all across the world with his Palestinian counterparts.
The Arab-Israeli junkie will not be able to set this book down. It is a must read.
Riveting.......2006-02-26
The title of Gilead Sher's excellent book: "Within Reach" The Israeli-Palestinian Peace Negotiations, 1999-2001 - - is deceiving. It suggests a dry, ponderous policy analysis that would only be of interest to experts or students of the Middle East conflict. But what Sher really does is provide a fascinating personal journey through an erratic minefield of diplomacy and policy, personalities and cultures. "Within Reach" is extremely well written, and the anecdotes and insights that are peppered throughout provide a deeply personal look at a complex process. It is a riveting story of our times.
Insightful.......2006-02-08
Gilead is my brother, so naturally, I am not objective, then again, knowing him personally, I can attest to his unyielding honesty, extraordinary analytical brightness and deep commitment to a fair solution to the Palestinian Israeli conflict.
Refelecting these qualities, "Within Reach," a best seller in Israel, and published illegally in the Arab Press, provides a fascinating insight into the overt and covert negotiations, detailing the Israeli and Palestinian positions on the core issues of the conflict -- Palestinian Refugees Right of Return, Jerusalem, Settlements, Security and Territories, Water. It recounts the ups and downs of the negotiations, the "players" personalities, the decision making process and the proposed solutions, which will no doubt serve as the blueprint for any future negotiations.
I highly recommend it for anyone interested in Israel, in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and most importantly, in the parameters of a possible agreement for the End of Conflict.
