Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

In March 1918 the Germans had successfully pushed the frontline to within 120km of Paris; the town of Chateau Thierry marking the tip of German advance. Nevertheless, in a daring counter-offensive on June 3, the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) reinforced the French and threw the Germans back across the Marne River.

Exhilarated by this success, the 2d Marine Division was tasked with taking the strategically significant Belleau Wood. On the Marines arrival the French were retreating in the face of the German onslaught, but the Marines defiantly declared "Retreat, hell! We just got here!" To take the wood the Marines marched through an exposed wheat field under fierce German fire, and suffered a staggering casualty rate.

The Marines, undaunted, reached the wood and bitterly struggled for 20 days, capturing and re-capturing it six times over, and finally securing the position against all odds, ending the last German offensive on the Western Front. The US forces suffered 9,777 casualties, took 1,800 German prisoners, and the wood was officially renamed Bois de la Brigade de Marine in honor of their courage and victory.

Discussing the strategy employed by the Allies and accompanied by original photographs and detailed maps, this book examines the two key battles that saw America's baptism of fire in World War I: Chateau Thierry and Belleau Wood.

CHATEAU THIERRY & BELLEAU WOOD 1918: AMERICA'S BAPTISM OF FIRE ON THE MARNE by David Bonk joins others in Osprey's specialized 'Campaign' series to cover the actions of a 1918 American Expeditionary Force, which helped defeat the last German offensive of World War I. Included in the recount are first-hand accounts, photos and maps - in both black and white and full color - lending to an outstanding survey for specialized, in-depth collections where World War I history is a focus.

3 out of 5 stars America Gets all the Credit..........2007-02-26

When it comes to the American role in the First World War, there tends to be two diametrically opposed views: the first, is the Euro-centric view that the American contribution was not decisive because the war was decided before U.S. forces arrived on the battlefield in strength. The second, more American-centric view, is that the U.S. intervention was critical in determining the outcome of the war and even if few U.S. troops fought until the final months of the war, the psychological impact of fresh troops raised Allied morale and crushed the German will to resist. Osprey's Campaign #177, Chateau Thierry and Belleau Wood 1918 by David Bonk, falls in the second category. While the author has written a very detailed tactical account of the initial American combat actions in the First World War, the author's narrative is weakened by poor organization and a tendency to be condescending toward the British and French. In many respects, this is a good volume, but it can also be difficult to follow and misleading at times.

Throughout this volume, the author attempts to denigrate the role of the French Army. In the origins of the campaign section on page 7, the author claims that following the 1917 mutinies, the French commander Petain "promised that the French Army would not engage in offensive actions until the Americans arrived." In fact, Petain's Directive No. 1 issued on May 19, 1917 indicated that France would continue to mount limited offensives when conditions were favorable but would avoid costly and futile `breakthrough' offensives. French armies attacked in Flanders in July, Verdun in August and recaptured the Chemin des Dames heights in October 1917. On page 16, the author claims that "by 1917, both the French and British had largely adopted a tactical defensive tactical doctrine." In fact, the British offensives at Arras, Flanders, Ypres and Cambrai in 1917 clearly indicated that the Allies were not sitting on their hands after the U.S. declaration of war. Indeed, it was Petain who emphasized the production of tanks, heavy artillery, aircraft and chemical weapons - all offensive tools. On page 23, the author writes that following the German breakthrough on the Aisne River, "French units were melting away in the face of the German attacks and Paris was at risk." While it is true that the French 6th Army was falling back under pressure, 4 French reserve divisions were rushed up with the 2 U.S. divisions to stop the German attempt to cross the Marne River. On page 24, the author claims that the French Army in 1917 "was a spent force, unable to mount offensive actions." As noted, the French Army continued to mount limited offensives throughout 1917 and it played a major role in the counteroffensive of July-August 1918.

The main narrative starts off rather jumpy, with the initial U.S. dispatch of forces to Europe in 1917 and the first action at Cantigny, then a brief nod to the U.S.-French defense of Chateau-Thierry and then the bulk of the volume focuses on Belleau Wood. Actually, Cantigny gets more coverage than Chateau-Thierry (and a battle scene) and readers may be puzzled by the relationship of these three actions by three different U.S. divisions. It is clear that the author placed his main effort in the forty or so pages on the fighting in Belleau Wood, which is divided into sections covering each day in considerable detail. This section is quite good and the two BEV maps supporting it are beautifully done. However, this volume suffers from two few maps - only 6 instead of the typical 8 in an Osprey campaign title - and they come far too late to be effective in helping the reader understand the flow of the battles. It is not until page 72 that the reader sees a map that actually depicts where Chateau-Thierry and Belleau Wood were located in relationship to each other and the lack of the standard strategic overview map at the beginning is confusing. There are also serious map glitches; one map shows only US units with no German units while another map shows both Allied and German units in the same blue color. The volume has four 2-D maps (assault on Cantigny; defense of Chateau-Thierry; Chemin des Dames Offensive; final attacks at Belleau Wood) and two 3-D BEV maps (June 6, 1918 attacks at Belleau Wood; June 10-11, 1918 attacks. The BEV maps are very good. The two battle scenes (defense of Cantigny; clash of patrols in Belleau Wood, June 14, 1918) by artist Peter Dennis are also quite good.

There are also awkward aspects of military vernacular in the author's prose, such as a tendency to use abbreviations for ranks, or omit ranks for some individuals and to refer to individuals "winning" the Medal of Honor or Distinguished Service Cross, instead of being awarded the medal. In sum, this volume presents the parochial viewpoint that a couple of U.S. divisions turned the tide on the Western Front and played THE critical role in stopping the German drive on Paris. While the author's description of the tactical fighting in Belleau Wood is well done, the operational and strategic context in which this account resides is misleading and flawed. The defeat of Imperial Germany in 1918 was due to a complex series of events occurring over four years of bitter warfare, and the idea that six battalions of U.S. marines saved the Allies from defeat is little more than a chauvinistic conceit.

4 out of 5 stars Prelude to the Dark War.......2006-07-17

Poison Elves Volume 9: Baptism By Fire collects issues 48-59 of the Sirius-published Poison Elves series, and contains the entire Elvin Fire storyline.

For those of you unfamiliar with this excellent (and criminally underrated) series, Poison Elves is the story of an elf named Lusiphur. Now, before you get visions in your head of pretty-boy elves like Legolas or those Elfquest characters, you should know that Lusiphur (Luse, as he's known to the few people he likes well enough not to have killed) is not that kind of elf. He's a street fighting, hard drinking, mercenary/assassin described by his creator as (and I'm paraphrasing here) "having the temperament of a rattlesnake and the ability to deliver sarcasm faster than lightning hits the ground." Sound intriguing? Drew Hayes is a master storyteller, and besides getting a great non-traditional fantasy story, there is plenty of social commentary and very relevant, very cutting observations. Drew was doing this kind of thing long before Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis, et al made it commonplace. And his artwork is terrific too.

In this volume, Lusiphur and Jace sign on as guards on a ship carrying a secret cargo. The ship gets boarded by pirates led by none other than Cleah (from volume 8 Rogues). The elves discover that the cargo is actually the last ember of the Elvin Fire, an ancient power capable of creating great weapons against the Dark. Uncharacteristically, Luse and Jace decide to return the Fire to the elves, all the while pursued by the worst monsters the Dark can throw at them.

This is the beginning of a huge event in the Posion Elves series called the Dark War. This brings our misfit heroes back to the elvin homeland, where they will prepare to battle the forces of the dark. This is the stuff of epic fantasy, though presented in typical irreverent Drew Hayes fashion.

I can't recommend this series highly enough. When you're ready to take a break from "comics as usual", you owe it to yourself to check this series out.

Written with the high energy and taut focus of an episode of ER and the humor and grace of a master storyteller, this is the riveting true story of a young mother transformed by faith.

Heather Davis and her husband, Lon, are blessed. They have a strong and loving marriage, a terrific four-year-old son, and a gorgeous new baby daughter named Remy. But one day, without warning, something goes terribly wrong. A seizure sends Remy to the emergency room, and from that moment, life as Heather knows it will never be the same--it will be better.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointment in this book.......2004-02-20

This would have been a good book if not for the language used. I cannot enjoy a book whith such terrible misuse of language. If she really experienced a conversion and change of life by Jesus she could not even use such language in the telling of her story. I threw the book in the trash, where I felt the book belonged.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2003-02-13

Picked up this book with some trepidation. Once I got into it I could not put it down. It grabs you from the start and keeps you interested the whole way through. I thought it was a beautiful story about a womens journey to Christ.

5 out of 5 stars A blessing!.......1999-10-31

I read this book in one sitting - could not put it down. It is beautifully written with a message for all of us about the power of love - the love of parent for child as well as the love of God for us. It proves again that when we "let go and let God" that He never fails us. Like the author, I, too, finally "got it" as an adult and am still finding grace in everyday life. God really is "out there" waiting for us - more willing to help us than we are to ask of Him. I pray that her continued journey of faith will sustain her and her family. This is a lovely, inspiring book. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!.......1999-05-12

I picked this book up during a layover in the Houston airport. By the time I got home to Salt Lake City, I had read all 262 pages of it--even though it was 2 a.m.!

Heather--thank you SO MUCH for sharing your journey into faith with me. This is a book I will loan to non-Christian friends in the hopes of introducing them to the wonderful Peace they will find in Christ.

5 out of 5 stars Davis defines grace for our time.......1998-08-22

I read Heather's book the night before last. I got it from Amazon.com. I opened the package at 8:00pm and started reading and put the book down, finished, at 1:00 am. What a phenomenal story...she is a remarkable writer. She has an uncanny ability to put on paper exactly what was going on in her soul through the whole crisis. Unflinchingly, painfully, gracefully candid. I can't even put my feelings into words, except that her book spoke volumes to me about faith and God's love. When's the next book?

Green Lantern: Baptism of Fire by Ron Marz is the story of the start of Kyle Rayner's adventures as Green Lantern, and the mistakes he makes.

Quite lacking in confidence at the beginning, as he is just an artist kid suddenly given a super weapon, it takes some working with other heroes and encouragement for him to start to get the hang of it.

Okay... Look at these reviews, then look at the synopsis of this book. Obviously a few of these folks got a bit confused when they were typing up they're reviews. Yes, Baptism of Fire is ALSO a GL collected book, but this isn't that one.
This is a book of displacement and terror, science fiction and fantasy, all rolled into one.
I've got to give this books writing team a great deal of credit 'cause they've had me hooked since I glanced over the first book.
The characters are fantastic, and despite all the sci-fi stuff going on... the Core character to this story is an everyman. Well... maybe not an everyman... but not a superhuman nutcase like most of his associates. Makes for a cool change in comics.
Give Negation, and CrossGen Comics a shot. I doubt they'll disappoint you.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Read!.......2003-05-25

This is the second CrossGen title that I have read the first being Sojourn, which I unequivocally recommend. It's a total surprise how good these titles are, because I have resisted reading them. I've read DC and Marvel exclusively. I decided to purchase Negation Book 2 and was blown away by the artwork, the characterization and pacing. Each chapter if filled with tension and you quickly catch on that there is more to this band of former prisoners than meets the eye. I was impressed to say the least and I have read more than my fair share of comics. I will have to go back and purchase book 1. It's kinda exciting and yet frustrating to be hooked to a new title.

3 out of 5 stars a good book for new kyle fans.......2001-02-19

i just finished this book and i found that it is a good book to get some back ground on the early years of kyle's green lantern adventures.it's funny how far kyle has come along.i missed the early years(having read the title the last two yaers or so).i found that the book had a good start to it but then it slowed down in the middle.the ending how ever was great!kyle finds out what it takes to be a hero while in a great battle with grayven. this book is deffently worth checking out!

4 out of 5 stars The strongest GL stuff Marz released.......2000-11-27

Baptism of Fire collects most of the early Raynor GL issues. In them, you'll see a cocky, headstrong kid begin to grow into the responsibility of Green Lantern. Most of these stories owe themselves more to the classic Spider-Man stuff ('with great power comes great responsibility')than the Hal Jordan ('I have a magic ring and I play space cop between beers')era.

3 out of 5 stars Kasserine battle in a short and concise book........2007-06-23

I read this book, here in Brazil. This book has many photos(all black and white), is short and easy to read. The problems in this book are small. The maps, I think they are all weak.About bazooka's use by americans, and the capture for germans of many of these weapons, is forgotten in this book.
Both panzerfaust and panzerschrek antí-tank german weapons, came from bazooka's ideas. This is a regular and short book, about this battle.

5 out of 5 stars Everything you need to know about the Kasserine campaign.......2006-01-23

This old series from Ballantine books compares favorably with many newer books on the same subjects of military history. The main strong points of the book are the wealth of photographs (all of them black and white) some of which are extremely clear and captivating, the excellent and well detailed maps and of course the authoritative text, which is rather short overall but accurate and well balanced. Recommended reading for WWII buffs.

    Book Description

Take a burned-out Detective from the poorest section of Chicago, relocate him to an affluent California community where the richest, most powerful resident has been murdered, and what do you have? Baptism by Fire - A Ted Peters Mystery, the first in a new series by Arlene Harman.

Lt. Ted Peters' dream of quiet recuperation turns into a nightmare when Adrietta Bay's most beloved citizen, Dr. Jonathan Ponder is found dead at Ponder's Retreat. For reasons he can't fathom, Ted has been assigned to head up the investigation. His previous experiences with the wealthy class have left a bitter taste in his mouth and a chip on his shoulder. To make matters worse, his team resents him and cooperation is at a minimum.

The only bright spot in his new situation is Margo Fraser, the local Medical Examiner. She proves to be very knowledgeable as well as beautiful. Could there be a future there? Before he can find out, circumstances arise that could destroy not only their relationship but also his position in the community.

During the course of the investigation, he uncovers evidence that points to someone in the Department. Lt. Ted Peters is forced to wade through a host of attitudes, false clues, death threats, and Adrietta Bay's own way of doing things.

His personal life is just as unnerving. In addition to dealing with bouts of jealousy, he comes face-to-face with elements of his past that he is trying desperately to forget. And if that isn't enough, Connie, a determined female, has worked her way into his life.

Is it any wonder he has come to view his first case in Adrietta Bay as a baptism by fire? The question is, will he survive?

5 out of 5 stars Easily the most important book on EU - USA affairs.......2005-01-04

I cannot say enough about the obvious thought and scholarship that went into Professor Roy Ginsberg's book on the European Union. He stands alone among scholars (at least those of which I am aware) in recognition of "Barcelona Process", NATO enlargement, EU trade policy, EU enlargement, EU shaping of global rules on environmental policies to the EU economic advantage recognition and expression. Most books, including T. R. Reid's new book on the United States of Europe and Jeremy Rifkin's book on the same subject, have downplayed too much of these necessary considerations before urging that Americans join in a "rah-rah" on spreading EU global hegemony. Ginsberg easily has the best yet expressed professorial grasp of the subject. The book should be required reading for every member of the US Congress, State Department, Security advisers to the President and the President himself. Stuart Eizenstat wrote its commendatory foreword. Read Ginsberg's book! For a modest price, you will receive millions of dollars in information.
