Read cautiously if you are feeling fragile with regards to any guilt or the normal processing of your own or your family's victimization. This author will call you a self-pitier, a whiner, a complainer, and attribute many unkind motives to why you have 'attracted' this into your life. She will encourage you to repeat affirmations such as 'I am 100% responsible for what I attract into my life". Since everything from car accidents to a child's parents arguing is something that was 'attracted' into a person's life, it gets pretty discouraging.
I tried to weed through the harsh and judgemental attitude of this author, rescuer turned persecutor, and get something good out of the book. It was difficult but I did find some usable stuff.
I hope there are other books out there a little kinder and gentler with regards to people who have been victimized.
avoid the use of the right side of the brain, which holds the key to ending procrastination
Borrowing equally from her own story of recovery from procrastination, composite clinical case examples, psychological research, and interviews with highly productive individuals such as Dr. Bernie Siegel, Dr. Peterson offers a way out of the tomorrow trap so that we can finally take charge of our lives, savor success and embrace our essential destinies.

The book wasn't horrible, but I think it was geared towards those who are more artistic even though the author says everyone can do what she says. For those people who have deeper issues related to their procrastination I don't think this book will be enough. Some form of therapy should go along with it. For those of us who have dealt with procrastination all of our lives and have seemed to have tried "everything in the book" to stop I didn't find this book to be very helpful.
Didn't help me.......2004-02-14
This book is primarily focused on trying to determine the underlying cause of procrastination, which the author feels relates to feelings of shame. There is little space given to solving procrastination.
An approach like this might be of interest to some people suffering from procrastination, but I didn't find it useful.
She uses an exercise repeatedly which involves writing with both hands. She says you will get different responses from your dominant and nondominant hands, which is supposed to give you greater insight into your problems. An example:
Dominant Hand
When I think of solitude, I think ____________
When I think of solitude, I feel ____________
Nondominant Hand
When I think of solitude, I think ____________
When I think of solitude, I feel ____________
I think this exercise is unhelpful, and I feel annoyed every time I encounter it in this book.
very moving somehow at the same time encouraging.......2001-05-18
To my surprise, I quite often ended up with finding myself crying while I was reading this book! I never realised that there exists any relationship between one's feeling of guilt and procrastination. Whilst confirming this relationship, this book made me realised how deep my feeling of guilt was. In a way, through reading it I felt that I made a long long journey from my past to the current time, connecting my subconscious mind. It was rather a moving process. 'Forgive, but never forget' concept really changed my attitude to a very positive direction.
An example of a PhD student helped me a lot as I am also a doctoral student. I realised that all I got to do is just to write about something I have always wanted to write! Thanks to Dr Peterson, I have just submitted my PhD thesis.
The Tomorrow Trap: Unlocking the Secrets of the Procrastinat.......2001-04-12
Karen E. Peterson, Ph.D. suffered for years from procrastination. With The Tomorrow Trap: Unlocking the Secrets of the Procrastination-Protection Syndrome, she has written the book she "needed to read 20 years ago--while fighting a never-ending battle with procrastination."
Rather than offer ways in which to change behavior, Peterson focuses on helping readers discover the emotional reasons for their procrastination. Once the underlying problem is resolved, the procrastination often disappears.
Dr. Peterson describes two kinds of procrastination: task-related, and person-related. She emphasizes that procrastination is not laziness. If you are putting off doing "an arduous and unpleasant task," you are probably suffering from task-related procrastination. That's the kind that can be best overcome with a reward system.
"When you start to feel extremely angry, victimized, or helpless," then person-related procrastination is likely the culprit. Dr. Peterson says this type of procrastination "protects" us from dealing with "other issues not yet faced." Understanding that, she says, puts us on the road to recovery.
A psychologist and stress management consultant, Dr. Peterson uses case studies of clients to provide examples of how people can overcome procrastination and lead productive lives. Each chapter has questions that readers can ask themselves to help reveal the hidden emotions that keep them enmeshed in the tomorrow trap. She also provides exercises for freeing oneself from the past.
One chapter discusses compulsive habits, such as uncontrolled overeating, overspending, and workaholism as facets of procrastination. Dr. Peterson explains how those habits are formed and how they may be overcome.
Another chapter lists some medical reasons, such as PMS, ADHD, and SAD, that can lead to procrastination, and what to do about them.
Procrastination creates problems in all aspects of our lives: personal, professional, and spiritual. The Tomorrow Trap provides the incentive and self-help techniques needed to "break free from the procrastination patterns of the past and embrace a new way of living, working and believing."
I wish I had had this book twenty years ago!.......1999-09-27
Groundbreaking! This woman knows what writers are like and shows how to begin to break through some of the difficulties which are inherent to many writers/artists in achieving their products. Her analysis is especially poignant for those "blocked" by personal issues which prevent the action (writing, painting, interpersonally relating) needed to achieve their life's goals.

Book Description
Get Smart!
This astonishing book shows you how, through the application of simple mathematics -- things you have learned or should have learned in high school -- you can develop your mind to razor sharpness and your memory to steel-trap effectiveness.
In 452 riveting pages, Gerardo Joffe takes you through:
1. Review of Arithmetic: Things you should know, but may have forgotten -- and some very important things that even your math teacher didn't know about.
2. The 16-Level Paradigm of Multiplication: An astonishing journey through interactions of numbers. Here is where your mind will get its initial sharpening.
3. A Few Full Trips Through the 16-Level Paradigm, where your mind and your memory will get their final honing and polish.
4. The Algebra of the 16-Level Paradigm: This is optional, but even those who "hate math" will find it fascinating. This section also contains marvelous stuff about probability, combinations and permutations, "propositions" (earn money with bets!), and first-degree and second-degree equations. It's a goldmine of wonderful information!
5. Final Wrap-Up and Odds & Ends: In this section, you will get your final homework problems, and we will show you how you can get your Certificate of Achievement, and (really!) how you can get this book for FREE! And finally, you will learn how to instantly determine the day of the week for any date in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Passion Trap.......2007-07-13
This is a fantastic read. The way it explains and describes the human dynamics of a toxic or failing relationship makes complete sense. It also normalizes a lot of behaviour within these types of relationships which help the reader gain understanding, clarity and insight into their own thoughts and actions. By gaining this understanding it also helps encourage you, if nothing has before, to make firm decisions one way or another for yourself that will be best for you.
I would give this book TEN stars if I could!.......2006-12-07
As a Relationship Coach, I suggest that all my clients purchase this book and keep reading it over and over until it truly sinks in. Whether you are happily married, in a troubled relationship, or single looking for a mate, reading this book is a MUST! I agree with another customer's review that you can throw away the rest of the relationship books in your library and keep this one close at hand. The Passion Trap is the genesis, IMO, where all relationships start failing. Other books (and I've read many) on relationships may hone in on this or that issue and offer advice for remedies, but this book starts at the bedrock level of troubled relationships.
It is almost spooky how this dynamic works in all relationships. One of the partners is always more invested than the other which keeps the relationship out of balance . . . one wanting more, one wanting to run.
Read The Passion Trap, and begin to recognize how this dynamic is working in your relationship . . . before it's too late. :)
Brilliant book.......2006-03-13
In my library, I have about 400 books on psychology of relationships. I didn't expect this book to add much more to what I already had, or knew. Was I wrong!
This book is the best analysis of the self-defeating dynamics that destroy love relationships -- and delivered in such an accessible, well-written mannner that one cannot put it down. I stayed up two nights in a row reading it until 4 a.m., and wished I didn't have to go to sleep at all.
How I wish I came across this book a long time ago. As earlier reviewers stated, this should be required reading in high school (though this book is for all ages) -- it would save people so much heart-ache, depression, and divorces, if they understood ahead of time what undermines relationships between love partners.
The book is at its best when it descibes power imbalances that occur between people; it gets a little weaker later on when the authour tries to categorize people by giving them labels (e,g, "Loner", "Punisher", etc.) Real life can be a little more complicated than that (i.e., some people combine many characteristics, and are too complex to fit in just one category). But that didn't diminish my total admiration for this book.
I may get rid of some of my other books in the future to make room for new ones, but the Passion Trap will stay with me forever. I will be sharing it with my grandchildren if I have any...
Read This Before It's Too Late.......2005-02-22
A year ago this book could have helped avoid the breakup we just experienced. It might not have avoided the split, but at least we both would have exerted all efforts to try to understand the issues and reach a mutual decision rather than have it all fall on one to make the decision.
The book is brilliant. I could not put it down. The cases were effective in linking theory with life and it was almost too easy to identify with the roles. Throw away the so-called self-help books that promise reconciliation and read this book at the first sign of relationship troubles. Regardless of the outcome, you both will find a great sense of peace and resolve for having applied the techniques Dr. Dellis decribes.
Amazing Insight Into Relationship Dynamics.......2002-03-16
A friend loaned me his book when I was in a troubled relationship. I learned more about the dynamics of relationships from this book than I ever could have in practice. In fact, I learned so much from it, I just had to buy it. I have read and re-read my own book many many times and have loaned it to most of my friends. It's too bad this book is out of print. I would recommend anyone buy it, regardless of the price.

Keen Insights into the 'Why' of Our Behavior.......2007-08-25
This text is much more than a book on proper nutrition, diets, and eating habits as I originally thought. It takes you step by step with examples of why people live the way we do, including eating, sleeping, the use of drugs, and many other examples are included in the pleasure trap of modern day society.
I think it is well done despite one or two so so reviews.
The Pleasure Trap presents keen insights of our modern day society which are, in my view, critical to understand for anyone that wants to break free of the modern day pleasure trap. Without this understanding, (which I did not have before reading the book), one wonders aimlessly and frequently falls into the many traps that are not good for your overall health. Some people, I suppose, do not want to escape the traps and are content to indulge. But if you want to take ownership of your own health, and not rely on modern medicine to 'save you', read the book.
MUST READ AND EMBRACE.......2007-03-15
This is similar to other classics in the area of nutrition. The secret is out, obvious and will anyone follow it. Easy to read and easy to understand, what you eat determines your destiny in terms of health. eating nothing is better than eating poisonous food or a standard American diet.
highly recommended.......2007-01-07
I wanted to give this book to everyone on my Christmas list. It's an excellent read for anyone interested in psychology or health. This book sheds light on human nature, why we do what we do, and how our behaviors have evolved. We have created for ourselves a life of ease and excess, which, unfortunately, has lead to our collective demise. Because of the way we are hard wired, it is understandable why we eat the way we do (cooked, refined, processed "foods"), for example, but it is very self destructive and goes against our better judgement. We as a species have set up a huge trap for ourselves and we are suffering as a result. It seems the only way to avoid the misery that is inevitable as a result of the diseases of affluence, is to go against the grain, back to what's natural and logical, back to eating what we were designed to eat: raw plant based foods. It's not a matter of chance. If we keep doing what we have been doing, it's not a matter of IF we will get a disease, it's WHEN. Disease as a result of eating garbage has become so commonplace we accept it as normal, but it hasn't always been that way, and it doesn't have to be that way now. It's not enough just knowing what to eat, and that we should exercise, drink water and get a good night's sleep. The Pleasure Trap explains why it's so hard for us to follow our own common sense, why we keep backsliding into counterproductive habits and how we can reverse the downward spiral of our own making. I learned a lot about myself and human kind, and I now have a better understanding of why I ate two bean and cheese burritos tonight after nearly 70 days of eating mostly raw plant based foods. I decided not to give this book to anyone after all. The sad fact is, few people care about these matters. They just want to loose weight as fast as they can while still eating the same stimulating "food" and wallowing in the same poor habits. We want to keep our cake and eat it as well. It's sad. This book will tell you why, for those of you who really care to understand yourselves and improve long term.
This book is very easy to understand and the concepts are easily applied. I particularly liked the section on how to deal with people who sabotage our efforts to improve ourselves. For example, there are those who may criticize your new, healthy way of eating out of simple ignorance. They don't mean any harm, and have your best interests in mind. They probably just think you are misinformed and want to make sure you aren't being an extremist. Sadly, eating raw plant based foods is considered extreme these days. Never mind it is how humans have been eating since our appearance on this planet thousands of years ago (and have only recently managed to completely mess up when we learned how to plant food and domesticate animals). Then there are the people who know you are doing the right thing for your health but they go out of their way to tempt you or make you feel bad because deep down, they are embarrassed by their own bad habits. They want you to be like them so they don't have to feel uncomfortable or inadequate. The Pleasure Trap offers very useful techniques for handling both of these types of people, you know the ones. They are always making us cookies when we go on a diet. This is a small section, but in my opinion, this portion alone makes the book worth reading. The whole book is excellent. Buy it for yourself for Christmas, or just because you care enough about yourself to make a change.
Healthy New Year!
Pleasure Trap Review.......2006-11-14
This book provided me with an excellent understanding of how the Western World fell into the patterns of eating that are causing our modern diseases (obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc.). It also explains how our taste buds can be changed to actually prefer the foods that our bodies are designed to eat to stay healthy(which I tested and found to be true). Armed with this knowledge, I have successfully cured my acid reflux and lost weight while eating foods that I now prefer over the burger and fries norm of the American diet.
Eye Opening Book.......2006-11-04
I loved this book; it explains a lot of the reasons why we overeat and shop and do pleasureable things to excess; it helped me to take a look at what is really going on in our society; and how I can take more control of my own pleaure traps; and break free!

Memories.......2004-07-09
I remember reading this book for the first time when I was in the fifth grade, and it utterly enthralled me. Granted, I probably wouldn't appreciate it as much if I read it for the first time today, but I do remember enjoying this book very much. A very good choice for pre-teens or young adults.
Great book for paranormal fanatics.......2004-01-24
When i was in 8th grade i read this book. Turns out to this day to still be my favorite book. This book is a must for you fans of Science fiction/Paranormal powers. I must admit that altho some of the senary details of the state of texas can be a little sketchy but you have to cut him some slack the author never lived in texas tho he does do a Fairly good job of describing it. All in all i believe this is a commonly skipped over book. I also feel that it is best to read the other 2 stories that come before it in the series ( the artarian messenger, and The Seer).
Great book read it! and read the other 2 !
Wow!!.......2003-08-29
"The Mind Trap" by G. Clifton Wisler is one of the best books I've ever read. It's amazing. If you haven't read it, I seriously think you should consider it.
Run of the mill sci-fi for juveniles........2001-03-04
Frankly, it was difficult to find an original concept in this book. Children gifted with paranormal abilities, possibly of extraterrestrial origin, are held captive by scientists whose desire to study and exploit these phenomena leave them little inclination to treat the children as anything other than valuable lab rats. Of course there are one or two sympathetic adults (e.g., Granny Islington, who could have been an interesting character if the author had tried to develop her a bit more). But if you've read juvenile sci-fi before, you've read stories like this one a dozen times.
About the only interest I found was in the locale -- the story takes place in Dallas, where I have lived for many years. But even that angle is skimped on by the author (who lives in the suburb of Plano); his description of the Dallas Art Museum was so vague as to give no flavor to the story at all. Likewise, the lake in the first chapter (White Rock, perhaps -- the author doesn't name it) might as well be any lake in any city. And of course if you don't live in Dallas, you won't even have that aspect to hold your interest in this mediocre story.
This Book is a good book for Science Fiction freaks like me!.......1997-10-13
Well, The Mind Trap is an excellent book. It is about extra-terrestrials and is really quite nice. It is as entertaining as a T.V. show. The best part in the book was when Scott made a plan with the other kids and escaped. I also like the fact that the author made the problem, well, far fetched. This is a great book and if you don't read it, you don't know what you're missing out on. Take my advise, READ IT!!!!
