Changed my life.......2007-05-11
These books have changed my life. Multi year chronic back pain is gone. Clair Davies summarized these medical books in very easy to understand terminology in his book "trigger point therapy workbook". Massaging the painfull trigger points has helped me so much.
Trigger point mania.......2006-07-24
I love this book I have had a chance to use it a lot in my practice. It has tons of great information, be prepared a long read it is a medical manual so to speak and it can be a little on the long side, but if your up for it, It is a fantastic asset...
Excellent text.......2004-04-17
I found the information quite thorough. It is written in a user-friendly way, easy to understand. I bought this book because it was listed as a reference for the chiropractic practice part 2 exam. This book helped me with the locations of the trigger points. Sometimes the chiro boards like to ask questions on trigger points. However, Leonardi's book: National Board of Chiropractic Part II Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers and National Board of Chiropractic Part III Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations are excellent for board exam preparation. These three books are needed for the part II and Part III of the boards.
The ultimate in drug-free pain relief!.......2001-01-25
As a Clinical Massage Therapist at a hospital, I use these books almost daily. In fact, I just ordered my second set. . . The first is so threadbare it's barely usable. ANYTIME I have a patient with a pain that I can't immediately identify I grab my Travell's. This set is an absolute BIBLE for anyone in the health care industry. Travell and Simons have esentially written "The Instruction Manual" for elliminating myofascial pain by going to it's source!
Janet Travell, MD and David Simons, MD were absolute pioneers when it came to myofascial pain and it's treatment. What makes these books even more amazing is that they were written a full quarter of a century before doctors even acknowledged that myofascial pain actually exsisted. . . What makes them interesting is that, in this, the most current edition, they have re-evaluated about 65% of the sites that before would only be considered for cortizone or saline injection and now recommend these areas be attended to by a Massage Therapist. They even go into strong detail as to stroke, direction and stretching. There are still plenty of sites that they recommend for injection, but only in a last resort situation.
The chapters are laid out in an incredibly easy to understand manner, though that's not even the beauty of the book's design. If you know the name of the muscle in question, you simply look inside the front cover; the muscle are all listed with their coresponding page numbers next to them. Don't know the name or not sure which muscle it is in the group? No problem. You again open the front cover and there, in 5th grade simplicity, are charts for all the areas covered in the book. Flip to the area in question and look through the diagrams. When you find (in the super well drawn diagrams) the pain you are trying to treat, you are given, not only several treatment plans, but etiology and most likely direct verve aggravation associated with the pain.
My only problem with the set is that the book are not as well bound as maybe they could be for the price. You'll notice, however, that it didn't have enough of an impact on me to give it any less that a perfect score.
I STRONGLY recommend this book for ANY health care practitioner that deals with pain control and alleviation.
A Tour de Force.......2000-11-02
Janet Travell MD and David Simons MD spent a lifetime studying the patterns and treatment of muscular and soft tissue pain in patients. It is a specialty in itself, and provides an amazingly detailed review of anatomy. These books are the bible on the subject written by the "mother" and "father" of the specialty. There will hardly be a day in the professional life of a busy primary care practitioner, rheumatologist, orthopedist, neurologist, physiatrist or physical therapist when these books will not be used. The more one knows of this field, the more revelations one gets into those difficult chronic pain patients. The etiology and muscular complexity of the huge field of "tension headache" syndromes now become clear. With these books you will have the tools to diagnose and treat effectively (usually dramatically) the entire spectrum of myofascial pain from head to toe, muscle by muscle. Why do so few physicians know of this vital area of medicine?

Worth Its Weight In Gold!.......2007-09-22
Sugarman really knows his stuff and he presents it excellently! Not only did I enjoy reading this book but applying the concepts I have learned in both my print ads and presentations I have increased my sales and will continue to do so in the years to come. I heartily recommend Triggers and Advertising Secrets of the Written Word to any businessman wishing to improve his or her bottom line.
Mind Control.......2007-07-21
The book has enough tips to control your prospect's mind. But the best part is the prose. It almost reads like a fable. I await a Sugarman novel.

This book is only for those who want to sell more..........2006-10-17
Are you a person who wants to sell a product or a service?
If so, I heartily recommend this book.
This book is for rank beginners and seasoned pro's. For beginners, it is an excellent introduction to the world of sales. For the seasoned pro, it is an excellent checksheet to make sure that all the bases are covered before going into that "big deal".
This book is a book about "sales think". That is, how to think in terms of making sales.
Also, this book is easy to read and because it is easy to read, I can easily imagine that some people might "skim" right through it and totally miss the incredible depth that is contained within this book.
For example, sales people know that people buy based on emotion not logic. Yet, sales people everywhere continue to use logic to sell. Why do they do this? It's because they don't know how to create emotion. My point is, on page 64 Mr. Sugarman shares a portion of an ad that he wrote. Within it is embedded the secret to creating emotion that sells.
I'll wager that the few people who've given this book a poor rating never even saw the real message and the real depth of this book.

The first edition of this workbook is regarded as a classic in its field, and was the first book to introduce trigger point therapy to the general public as a self-care tool for alleviating chronic pain caused by a variety of conditions, including arthritis, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, headache, muscle ache, and repetitive strain injuries. As the author makes clear, all such conditions are related to lack of oxygen in exhausted or injured muscle tissue. Trigger point therapy has been used for decades by doctors, pain specialists, and massage therapists to quickly stimulate the flow of oxygen and promote rapid pain reduction. This book makes the same techniques available to the general public with instructions that are easy to follow, and abetted by an extensive collection of charts and corresponding illustrations.
The author's interest in trigger point therapy began when he used it to successfully treat his frozen shoulder. Since that time, he has dedicated himself to teaching others the same techniques. That dedication is obvious throughout his writing and the care he takes to make the therapy understandable to the lay public. Also included in this new edition is updated information that should be of great interest to pain specialists and bodyworkers, as well as useful instruction in a variety of relaxation techniques. Overall, this book is an excellent self-care resource for anyone interested in pain relief.--Larry Trivieri Jr.
Book Description
Trigger point therapy is one of the most intriguing and fastest-growing bodywork styles in the world. Medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, and massage therapists are all beginning to use this technique to relieve formerly undiagnosable muscle and joint painconditions that studies have shown to be the cause of nearly 25 percent of all doctor visits. The technique involves applying short, repeated massage strokes to trigger points, tiny contraction knots in muscle tissue where restricted circulation and lack of oxygen cause referred pain. Trigger points create pain throughout the body in predictable patterns characteristic to each muscle, producing discomfort ranging from mild to severe. Trigger point massage increases circulation and oxygenation in the area and often produces instant relief. This dynamic technique has made a huge impact among health professionals and the public alike, becoming an overnight classic in the field of pain relief. The book has sold over 145,000 copies since the release of the first edition in 2001. The second edition is a complete update and includes a new chapter specifically for massage professionals, as well as a chapter on systematic muscle relaxation techniques that can reinforce the therapeutic power of trigger point work.

Helped eliminate my headaches.......2007-10-06
I knew I'd made a good purchase when I was flipping through the pages right after it came in the mail, looking at the diagrams of referred pain patterns, and saw the very pain pattern for the headaches I'd been having. It was an extremely gratifying experience to know that there was an actual cause for this weird pattern of pain on my head, and that there was something I could do about it. I also learned that my pressure points were caused by bad posture. So, with an adjustment to how I sit at my desk, and the massage techniques for my pressure points, I've pretty much eliminated my headaches.
The only mild criticism I have about the book is in its diagrams of massage techniques. They're very rudimentary and are all of an older looking man in what looks like a Speedo (and he has no eyes or mouth). As a woman, there are some of the pressure points that are more difficult to reach because of breast tissue and while the author addresses this in the text, there's not a single picture of a woman doing the techniques. I'd rather have had a androgenous figure than this man consistently through the book. On the other hand, the diagrams of the muscles and the pressure point location are very good.
Like I said - it's a minor point - the main reason to get the book is because its techniques are effective.
Trigger Point Therapy.......2007-09-23
The Trigger Point Therapy Workwork has allowed me to try to pinpoint the problem muscles in my leg and to do self-massage to relieve the pain. It has been useful and I do have to admit that I have had less pain than I did before using the workwork.
A must-have for anyone in pain!.......2007-09-20
I use this book regularly in my massage practice and recommend it to my clients often. The author uses clear and concise verbiage with graphics, describing the techniques. These therapies WORK!
I was skeptical, but it works!.......2007-09-18
I had my doubts - while reading it and especially after I started using the self-therapy method. I got tendonitis in one elbow nearly 2 years ago, and it has never completely healed to the point that I can use it like I could before the tendonitis. It's much better than in the beginning, but because I "baby" that arm, I got it in the other elbow about a month and a half ago. I've been wearing the elbow brace I got from the doctor when I got the tendonitis in the first elbow, and started the self-therapy about 3 weeks ago. In the beginning it (the therapy) hurt like h***! I just "knew" I was making it worse than it already was. But I kept at it, just like the book instructed, and low and behold suddenly it's 85% better. A week ago I still could not use a pump dispenser with my index finger on that arm without horrible pain, and today I could carry a 10 lb. object with that arm (no brace) with barely any discomfort.
When I originally got tendonitis in the first elbow nearly 2 years ago, it took 9 months to get to the point that I could use my arm without major discomfort (I wore the brace the entire 9 months), and it has just very gradually gotten better to the point it is at now. The first arm started out much worse than the second arm that I did the self-therapy on, but I was having major pain in this elbow and couldn't lift much of anything. About 3 days ago, it just felt like it was healing and now I'm not wearing the brace anymore either.
It's very important to read the first 3 chapters carefully, and then go on to read about your particular area of pain. The author explains everything very clearly and you do not need to have medical knowledge to use this book.
Highly Recommended.......2007-09-17
The best $13.57 investment I have made....... My wife have been complaining of shoulder and neck pains for over two years, been to at least 4 doctors, spent a lot of money on prescription medicines, laboratories and tests..... This book eliminated that pain in just overnight. She was also complaining about her tennis elbow for over a year and its gone in just 3 days......I highly recommend this book.

Just another usesless book by Wiley Trading.......2007-06-24
Concepts presented in this book can be sumerized into just 2 pages without any simplification. So basicly, everything except 2 pages in this book is af filler. What is more, these concepts are available on any trading forum for free. If you buy this book, 3 thing will happen: 1) You will have $50 less, 2) You wont learn anything new, 3) You will get mad on yourselves for buying JUST ANOTHER USELESS BOOK BY WILEY TRADING.
Suspicious Reviews?.......2007-02-17
I wonder why all the previous stellar reviews (6 so far) are written by folks who only reviewed the author's books, within a couple of months? I also wonder why the author chose not to enable looking inside his book? This is rarely a good sign.
Fabulous Book.......2007-01-26
I've read numerous trading books and this is ONE OF THE VERY BEST. John provides a very detailed description of a very viable trading system that is easy to understand and minimizes one having to interpret how to apply the system.

Outstanding and Concise Approach to Trading.......2007-01-25
Having purchased and read the majority of books associated with trading techniques, I am thrilled with Mr. Person's concise explanations and common sense approach to trading. Using the techniques Mr. Person describes in his book, I've been able to dramatically improve on my gains in the market. Finally, I've found a book that describes in plain English what I should really be looking at and analyzing. Thank you Mr. Person!
Revolutionized my tactics.......2007-01-19
For a lot of years I've been more of an "investor" than a trader. But this book has made me a believer! The clear, easy-to-follow examples, explanations and charts have taken the mystery out of technical trading and opened the door to a much faster way to grow my nest egg which, now that I understand it, does a far better job of controlling risk than my old buy-and-hold tactics. For me this book is a breakthrough! I highly recommend it!

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Book Description
Powerful Techniques to Relieve Shoulder Pain and Stiffness
Author Clair Davies' own case of frozen shoulder led him to undertake an extensive study of trigger points and referred pain that eventually resulted in his best-selling Trigger Point Therapy Workbook. Now this renowned bodywork expert and educator revisits the subject of frozen shoulder, offering the most detailed and comprehensive manual available for this painful and debilitating condition, a useful resource for self-carewith and without a partnerand for bodywork practitioners looking to expand their treatment repertoire.
Frozen shoulder, the syndrome name for several joint and tendon-related symptoms, is experienced as a loss of motion and pain in the shoulder and upper arm. It is most often observed in women between the ages of forty and sixty and individuals with type-two diabetes. Unlike traditional medical treatments for the condition, which rely on painkillers, steroid injections, and physical therapy and often do little to moderate symptoms or speed recovery, trigger point therapy can bring real and lasting relief. This gentle massage technique targets localized areas of tenderness in soft tissue. Put it to work for you to relieve pain, restore range of motion, and shorten recovery times.
A well-written exposition on a difficult subject. Daniel J. Wallace, MD, clinical professor of medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Medicine
In this outstanding book, Clair Davies aptly explains the rational for the trigger point approach based on the teachings of Drs. Janet Travell and David Simons to the treatment of frozen shoulder. He presents his hypothesis well. It is time for the medical profession to accept alternative therapies in treating this condition, which does not often respond to routine medical care. Paul B. Brown, MD, Ph.D., rheumatologist and clinical professor of medicine at the University of Washington
Clair Davies has done it again. He has written a wonderful book that provides insight and practical advice for the treatment of a common problem: frozen or stiff shoulder. He shows where the pain is, what the problems are, and how an individual can treat it, sometimes with the help of a partner. His illustrations and directions are clear. His case examples are helpful. This is a very useful book for those who have had rotator cuff injuries or other shoulder problems. Robert D. Gerwin, MD, president and medical director of Pain and Rehabilitation Medicine, Baltimore, MD, and the Janet G. Travell, MD, Seminar Series
Mr. Davies has done an outstanding job of tackling and simplifying a difficult topic that challenges even experienced clinicians. His review of the functional anatomy and kinesiology of the shoulder and the central role of the muscles in the control of the shoulder is a welcome review for physicians and therapists. His simple diagrams and descriptions make this topic understandable to those without formal training as well. Most importantly he shows very concrete ways in which a patient or clinician may effectively treat trigger points, which in my view are the primary cause of shoulder pain and stiffness in the majority of cases. I highly recommend this book to patients with shoulder pain and to clinicians involved in the evaluation and treatment of patients with shoulder pain. Bryan J. O'Neill, MD, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University
From a practical point of view, this is a really exceptional workbook, which could become a best-seller in its field. It is a wonderful overview concerning trigger points, which are the most common cause of frozen shoulder. I can recommend the book to all who are engaged in treating frozen shoulders, including medical doctors, therapists, and patients together with their partners. Dieter Pongratz, MD, professor in the department of Neurology at the University of Munich Hospital, Friedrich-Baur-Institute, in Munich, Germany
The Frozen Shoulder Workbook is truly a remarkable and comprehensive text that will be indispensable for patients with chronic shoulder pain. Written from a layperson's perspective, it is very readable and well illustrated, but still has plenty of background science and anatomy to satisfy clinicians as well. The book outlines a thorough approach to myofascial pain in the shoulder region and provides multiple treatment strategies to address the clinical variations that are seen. I will highly recommend it to my shoulder pain patients. Steven R. Shannon, MD, Pain and Rehabilitation Medicine, Baltimore, MD

Book Review.......2007-09-30
The book was not quite what I expected...thought it would be more detailed in actual exercises, however, I applaud Amazons quick shipment as always
Too much information.......2007-09-21
I bought this book to help me treat my frozen shoulder. While the book probably offers some useful information, there's TOO MUCH OF IT. I'm in pain, just tell me what to do . . . to have to read through page after page after page to figure out what is relevant to my condition is overwhelming to me. I wish the author had kept the book, I don't know, more simple.
Excellent source.......2007-08-29
This book is very clearly written and helps one in detail to overcome shoulder and neck pain,
rotator cuff injuries.......2007-08-06
This book gave me another insight of the muscles that we can overlook. I was certainly able to help my clients better with their overall range of motion.
Excellent book...helped me alot.......2007-07-23
I had tried everything to relieve my impossible shoulder pain. The trigger point method must be tried to be appreciated. When it came to the point where regular massage was making me worse instead of better, I went looking for an answer. A friend suggested the trigger point method becuase she got relief from a lifelong problem with her neck. I purchased both books in the hope I could relieve enough pain to be able to have mobility again. This book gave me all the information I needed to help myself feel a whole lot better...as well as compliment my other therapies.I would definately recommend it to anyone who has been unable to deal with muscular pain in a meaningful effective way. Try it, it works.

Book Description
Based entirely on research from peer-reviewed journals and randomized controlled trials,
Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff is a complete program to prevent and rehabilitate rotator cuff injuries for athletes and non-athletes alike. In less than 100 pages, readers will learn precisely how the rotator cuff works, what can go wrong with it, and then are guided step-by-step through an evidence-based program that takes just minutes a week to complete. Drawing from the latest rotator cuff research,
Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff is especially useful for those who have been diagnosed with either a partial or full-thickness rotator cuff tear, experience shoulder pain, do upper body weight lifting, play a sport or have a job that involves repeated arm motions above shoulder level, have been diagnosed with "impingement syndrome," or for anyone simply wanting a healthy and properly functioning rotator cuff.

Excellent resource on treating and preventing injuries..........2007-09-06
This is a great book that concisely explains the anatomy and physiology of the rotator cuff including the bones, muscles, biomechanics, etc. in just enough detail for the average person to understand. It also describes how to distinguish between different types of injuries, how to approach rehabilitating them and collects a lot of rotator cuff injuries in one small volume. While the book is rather expensive for its size, it packs a lot of well-explained information into a small space.
I'm an ex-physiology teaching fellow and scientist. I thought this book was great and turned something that is often difficult to explain into something anyone who can read can understand. The diagrams are good and the book contains no unnecessary detail.
I also agree with other reviewers that while Jim Johnson isn't an expert on rotator cuffs, his book is thoroughly researched and he does have a PT credential and has undoubtedly had 15 years of clinical experience in a teaching hospital environment. This suggests he has a very good nuts and bolts understanding and hands-on experience.
Johnson is "magic"!.......2007-07-09
This is the second book of Jim Johnson's that I have bought. The first one fixed my back pains with a simple exercise to strengthen the Multifidus muscles.
The exercises in this book has significantly reduced pain and increased mobility in my left shoulder, allowing me to sleep through the night and lift my arm over my shoulder.
Review of, "Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff".......2007-06-13
I ordered this book for my brother-in-law who has experienced shoulder pain and not being able to lift his arm higher than shoulder level due to a rotator cuff injury he received in the past. I recommended it to him because of the wonderful results I got using the information in this book to treat my own right shoulder pain.
Having previously read, Jim Johnson's, The Sixty-Second Motivator, and finding it very helpful, I can tell you that I certainly had the motivation to try and stick with an exercise that would relieve my painful and restricting condition. And it sounded to me like my brother-in-law was in the same boat.
I used the Sidelying External Rotation exercise on page 55 of the rotator cuff book and got great results. The first time I tried it I could only manage to raise a 20 ounce can of pineapple about half way up less than ten times. I found the detailed instruction, precautions and notes particularly helpful and feel that carefully following them was why I experienced the gradual recovery. My wife sat beside me making sure I did the exercise slowly and exactly as the book states. After about four weeks I actually worked up to fully raising the can of pineapple 20 times. Later on I increased the weight little by little and began to feel good enough to resume some of the more physically demanding activities on our small farm.
Last week I was actually able to assist with harvesting our hay and didn't suffer during or afterward from any of the shoulder pain or stiffness that I had previously experienced many times. Yes, I was careful about what I did and how I worked, but for me to even attempt to try stacking a 60 pound bale of hay was completely out of the question a few months ago. I went from shoulder pain that caused me sleepless nites and not being able to lift my right arm any higher than shoulder level, to what I consider a darned good day's work.
This book is a real bargain and indeed I consider it invaluable when I think about how it helped me. And as you can see, I heartily recommend it.
So far, so good.......2007-05-11
Just as the book promised, I had a eureka! moment the other day. I bought this book because I have been having unidentified rotator cuff problems for years (I was a baseball and now am an avid softball player). Because everyone talks about rotator cuff tears, I assumed that's what my problem was. After reading Johnson's book, I was surprised and pleased to discover that my problem was most likely simply an impingement, and that no matter what your unspecified problem it is, it is likely to improve from his exercises (he cites the studies that prove this claim). Prior to starting his exercises, it was painful to soap up in the shower, sleep or do anything where I had to reach my back. Now, after just a month of the stretches and strengthening exercises I realized all of a sudden the other day (eureka!) that I have no pain in my shoulders! My range of motion is not where it should be yet in one shoulder, but it's improving. I still have a ways to go, but I'm encouraged by my progress so far.
Johnson's book is written to help people with all severity of rotator cuff problems. Anywhere from being unable to lift an arm overhead to near full utility of the joint. He also gives you measurements by which you can judge your flexibility, which is also nice to help you figure out what "normal" is.
I suppose the question still remains: why don't you just go to a doctor, idiot? I suppose the real answer is the inconvenience of going, the cost, and primarily, just that I'm a DIYer type my nature, and like to fix things on my own when I can.
The only reason I didn't go to 5 stars was because I got the impression from the book that Johnson is really just a guy (in the field) who reviewed some studies and came up with a program. Now, that's a great way to go about things, but I would not call him an *expert* on rotator cuffs. On the plus side, that does make him very easy to understand, as opposed to some of the surgeons out there who have written on the subject.

Far out..........2007-09-21
Yes, "far out" are the first and last words that come to my head when I think of this most unique experience of a book.
It's one of my favorite books as I am at a complete loss to classify it. More books should defy categorization like this does. Other reviews will give you details of what it contains.
I'm just going to express my awe at the facility with which Robert Anton Wilson can jump from one subject to another and still consistently hold my interest.
Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Robert Anton Wilson is a very strange man. Here he writes about all
sorts of things, conspiracies, magic, the occult, weird happenings and
how lots of things like this tie together and are meaningful. The other
funny thing is the whole numerology bit, where the number twenty-three
is seen as being very important, and turns up in all sorts of places.
Final Secrets.......2007-04-04
"Cosmic Trigger" is worth reading both for its historical value and its relevance today. Many of the important figures of the 60's and 70's, like Tim Leary, J Edgar Hoover and Robert A Wilson, are dead and gone, but the problems they represented are still with us. Permit me to quote one paragraph:
"Paul Watzlavik, among others, has performed classic experiments in which totally sane people will begin to behave with all the irrationality of hospitalized paranoids or schizophrenics - just because they have been lied to in a calculated and systematic way. This sort of 'disinformation' matrix is so typical of many aspects of our society (e.g. advertizing and organized religion, as well as government) that some psychiatrists, such as R.D. Laing, claim it is the principal cause of psychotic breakdowns. When the politics of lying becomes normal, paranoia and alienation become the 'normality' of the day. The government, as the principal liar of the 1960's, was, of course, more deluded than anyone else, since its reality-map had become a classic disinformation system. The establishment began looking around for the villains to blame for the escalating social disintegration. Tim Leary got elected, by unanimous acclaim, Villain #1."
Nominations are now open for Villain #1 of this decade. Osama seems to be leading.
Reality tunnel changer.......2007-03-16
After reading this book, I tuned in another reality tunnel (you'll understand what I meant after reading the book).
What can I say, I recommend this book to ultimate freedom seekers and the ones(probably the same people) that enjoyed Carlos Castaneda series( especially Journey to Ixtlan).
Great writing, great man, great insight. I'd have to write a book just as a review for this one so I'll stop here :-)
Wow! Some People Really Don't Get It..........2007-02-04
I was amazed at several of the reviews here which give this book a low rating. They say it was "unreadable", "silly" "garbage" and other such put-downs, just because they were unable to comprehend it. This book has so many levels to it that many people WON'T get it (unfortunately) but just because quantum equations look like a bunch of scribbles to me, I don't go around referring to quantum physics as "silly" "garbage".
This is one of the best books on ontology and the nature of reality for the layman which has ever been written (or at least in the top ten). Please keep in mind, all who would criticise, that just because you yourself were not properly equipped to understand and enjoy this volume, that does not make it drivel. R.A.W., one of the best, at his best.
Rest in peace Mr. Wilson....

quick reference.......2007-03-13
This flip chart is very easy to use for a quick reference when time is a factor. I keep it where it can be accessed during the day for treatment in the out-patient therapy office.
Wonderfull Resourse.......2006-03-20
This is a wonderful resourse that can be used by anyone in the massage profession. It is valuable not only for the therapist but also for the client. Wonderful referances and great layout.
Excellent, easy to use quick reference of trigger points and referred pain........2005-08-06
The trigger point spiral bound charts have the same diagrams of trigger points and referred pain patterns as the Travell & Simons 2 volume set, Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual -- Volumes 1 and 2. They are grouped by major body sections for quick review and have references to the more detailed information in the manuals for ease in looking up additional information. They can be set up in an examination/treatment room to use for explanations to a client or for quick reference by the practioner. No need to fumble through pages of the manuals to find trigger points or referred pain locations, just turn to the chart page for the specific section of the body that the pain is located in and there is the necessary information. Because of their portability these are a great reference for therapists who travel off sight or instructors teaching in assorted locations. An excellent compliment to the 2 volume set.
Good reference for massage students.......2004-04-17
I used these charts as a good reference for some preparation for the National Certification exam for Massage and Bodywork. I also used Tortora's Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, and Leonardi's Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Vol 1, isbn: 0971999643
Vol 2 isbn: 0971999651
Vol 3 isbn: 097199966x
The trigger point charts are needed because they do ask questions on this. Tortora's book is needed because it gives you the complete knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Leonardi's study guides are needed because they show the type of questions to get ready for on the test. I'm glad I bought these five books.
Book Description
A thorough understanding of what myofascial pain actually is, and provides a unique and effective approach to the diagnosis and treatment of this syndrome for the lower body muscles.
Customer Reviews:
Cheaper than the ER!.......2007-05-10
I bought the two volume set several years ago. It paid for itself the first time I used it and was able to get a severe headache under control at home, instead of going to the emergency room. Yes, even with a killer headache or back spasm, the book is easy to use, although it's got enough technical detail to make it an essential reference in any physician's library.
A wealth of information.......2007-01-23
I bought these books (upper and lower extremeties)to help me with trigger point work in the neck and shoulders, especially the scalenes and rotator cuff and to gain more knowledge with other major muscle groups. What I ended up with was a wealth of information, more than I could ever have dreamed of, these books are beautiful, wonderful color illustrations. Clear and easy to follow. There is also information on different stretches and how to educate and help the client. I will have these books for the rest of my life.
Myofascial Pain and Dysfunstion.......2005-10-27
It is a wealth of information that I will enjoy for a lifetime.
