Book Description
How the 90/10 Plan Works.
The 90/10 plan was developed especially for people who tried to lose weight but just couldn't give up their favorite foods. It is a way of eating that is so healthy and nutritious you can still indulge your Fun Food fantasiesbecause those indulgences are actually a part of the plan.
The 90/10 plan offers three different caloric levels based on the amount of weight you want to lose and the amount of exercise you are willing to commit to each week. Once you've selected your goal, you'll have two full weeks of deliciously different breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacksthat's forty-two meals for each plan! Each meal is nutritionally balanced as well as calorically manipulated/designed so that you can swap meals and always have foods you like. If your desired weight loss is not reached at the end of two weeks, simply repeat the plan until your goal is attained.
The 90/10 plan is perfectly adjusted to provide approximately 50 percent of total calories from quality carbohydrates, moderate amounts from lean protein, and limited amounts from fatproportions that research has proven to be optimal for good health and disease prevention. The meal plans are balanced to provide you with the most vitamins and minerals possible for the controlled amount of calories consumed. The 90/10 menus are also low in saturated fat and dietary cholesterol, and high in fiber, phytochemicals, and antioxidants, all of which will help to reduce your risk of heart disease and certain cancers.
You Can Still Eat Your Favorite Fun Foods
In chapter nine you'll find literally hundreds of your favorite brand-name sweet treats, salty snacks, rich desserts, and other indulgences, presented in portion-controlled servings that are pre-calculated to fit into the 90/10 plan. Yes, you really can continue to eat your favorite jellybeans, chips, candy bars, or ice cream. With the 90/10 plan you'll learn to satisfy your taste buds, lose weight, and keep it off forever.
Meets the Most Demanding Nutrition Guidelines
The 90/10 Weight-Loss Plan is designed to incorporate the majority of nutrition guidelines set forth by leading scientific authorities, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the American Dietetic Association, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the American College of Sports Medicine.
From omelets to waffles to pasta to red meat or fish, all menus are carefully calculated to provide ample amounts of nutrition while keeping total calories low enough to guarantee weight loss.
On the 90/10 plan everything your body needs and wants is part of the program, including hundreds of your favorite brand-name snacks and treats so you won't feel deprived and tempted to cheat. The 90/10 plan is a balance of healthy and nutritious foods, with just enough Fun Foods to keep you happily motivated to stick with your goal.
Experience
Joy Bauer has developed a revolutionary weight-loss strategy that has helped thousands of people lose weight. She has created a diet that in just two weeks will make you healthier, you'll lose weight, and you won't have to give up the foods you love.
Customer Reviews:
Buy Dr. Weil's Book instead.......2007-07-17
I really like Joy Bauer. She is personable and tolls out sensible and realistic advice on the Today Show, however her book is very dissapointing. The menus provided are dull and without imagination. The "fun" foods as she calls them (the 10% part of her diet) are simply the saved calories from a spartan menu. Spend your money on Dr. Weil's first book(s). You'll actually enjoy the menus and learn about how to change your lifestyle to be healthier.
Scientifically Designed?.......2007-03-26
Don't waste your time or money on this one. "Scientifically designed" should imply the following: documented case studies, control groups, statistical analysis of the data (to support the 90/10 theory) followed by peer review in scientific journals. There is no evidence of "scientific design" present in this book. Unfortunately, this becomes one of the fad diets the author warns us about. In fact, she even cautions the reader about trans fats, only to condone eating foods that are notoriously loaded with trans fats (not all of us live in New York where trans fat are prohibited in restaurants). I will probably regret giving this book even one star because, although obviously an intelligent lady, the author is nevertheless naive and irresponsible with her unsubstantiated diet advice. "Fun Foods"? Give me a break! This means that it's okay to intermittently eat nutritionally deficient "junk foods" for well over a month throughout your year (10% of the time).
Excellent!.......2007-03-19
I have lost 30 lbs in 5 months. I love this plan. I especially like that I didn't have to give up anything to be successful. I still get my pasta, chocolate, breads etc. The 90/10 plan made it possible for me to analyze more carefully the amount of calories I was consuming per day.
I also love the cookbook. I'm ready for a new book though. I can't get enough.
weight loss book.......2007-01-04
I love this book! It is such a well-rounded approach to eating with delicious, healthy meals for 90% of the time and anything you want for 10% of the time! There are several different calorie options, and all of the recipies I have tried so far are delicious!
Great Start - Need to Get Cookbook Too! .......2006-03-05
The book is an excellent resource, but there are only 14 days of meal plans. There is a 90/10 cookbook, I strongly recommend getting that as well so that you don't become bored. It is great to be able to eat sweets without feeling guilty. If you tend to be a compulsive eater, this may not be the plan for you.

Customer Reviews:
Buy this for the CD.......2007-09-25
I've bought hypnosis self-improvement tapes before and soon abandoned them. I was too impatient! This time I've discovered that persistence and repetion is the key. You really can change your subsconscious "tapes" but it is not a quick process. Just hang in there, and repeat, repeat.. As to this book and CD set, I did not find the book very enlightening. If you are completely new to the subject, perhaps you will. However, the CD is GREAT! Mr. G. has one of the most soothing voices I have ever heard from a hypnotist. He does not do very lengthly inductions, which I like. He also has another set of three CDs on Self-Hypnosis for Weight Loss that doesn't come with a book. Those CDs are different from the one that comes with this book and are just as good. If you are really serious, I recommend buying them as well. Good Luck!
helps me!.......2007-04-18
This is a wonderful book to help change inner attitudes and beliefs about food and eating. I am using it with "Thinking Thin". A difference in a few short weeks. Will require frequent, of not almost dail use of this and/or Thinking Thin!
Re-defining 'favorable foods' at the subconscious level, increasing willpower, and encouraging change .......2007-03-12
Medical hypnosis and heath experts Steven and Joy Gurgevich here survey the role and abilities of the subconscious mind in controlling weight - and provides tools readers can use to utilize these subconscious memories in THE SELF-HYPNOSIS DIET: USE THE POWER OF YOUR MIND TO REACH YOUR PERFECT WEIGHT. How? By re-defining 'favorable foods' at the subconscious level, increasing willpower, and encouraging change in eating patterns. An accompany cd program explains self-hypnosis and aids in effective self-hypnosis so even beginners can easily use this at home with no prior familiarity.

The REAL way to weight loss through positive and healthy changes.......2007-02-11
I have successfully lost weight in the past being mean to myself, hating my body, and punishing myself with very low calories, forbidding any fun, and hard workouts. In the end--I still wasn't happy, or happy with my body, and I even injured my knee pushing too hard in a workout.
The Gurgeviches offer a better way. I love this program. I teach yoga, and these 'self hypnosis' sessions closely resemble guided relaxation and yoga nidra. As proof: today, in line at the grocery store, I picked up the new dark chocolate bar. After a few moments, I put it back! That's HUGE! It's the little things, like really learning to listen to yourself and 'eating whatever you want while reaching and maintaining your perfect weight'.
I work at a health food store, and people constantly spend up to $100 on pills, hoping they'll find the magic one that effortlessly melts the pounds from their body, and in the meantime putting some potentially dangerous stuff in their bodies. Try a healthier, more positive way! With this program you will end up LIKING yourself as well as looking and feeling healthier, which is what it's all about.
Warning: you might just get the magic solution! It really is wonderful to make some of these small choices, like forgoing a candy bar without being deprived. It's a change of paradigm, or just a different way of thinking about food and our relationship with it. I am learning to want the best for myself. Americans can definitely learn more in this department!
The book suggests you read the first three chapters, then you can begin using the cd and finishing the book. It has wonderful inspirational quotes, and background into the history and research behind self-hypnosis. It even has a foreword from Dr. Weil, whose name will tell you it's not a bunch of smoke and mirrors. The cd has about 7 tracks, 1 instructional then five of different hypnosis sessions (i.e. exploring our history with food, a rescue rememdy for cravings, etc.) The last track is a powerful, positive message about setting intentions. It's all very 'yoga-like' in a way, too, so if you love yoga, you'll find this book very familiar in many ways.

A Diet Book That's Not About Dieting.......2007-01-28
This is a wonderful book for anyone whether you need to lose weight or gain weight... or even if you don't need to lose or gain but just need to eat more nutritiously this book is for you. It is wonderful because the focus is on eating foods that are nutritious and healthy... or foods that "support your perfect weight" It's not about dieting at all! And the self-hypnosis Cd in the back of the book helps you crave foods that support a healthy weight and helps you desire portions that are just right for you. If you are at all familiar with Dr Andrew Weil's Anti-Inflammatory Diet you will agree that The Self Hypnosis-Diet Book and Cd wonderfully support it. This book is for everyone... and it works!

Book Description
On September 6, 1989 Norris Chumley was at a crossroads. At 330 pounds and rising, it was simply a matter of time before he would again tip the scales at the 400 pounds he had reached many times before. He had been on virtually every diet, and they'd all failed. He felt hopeless, and, in rare glimpses of honesty, secretly admitted he was slowly committing suicide.
The Joy of Weight Loss is the dramatic story of how Norris Chumley turned his life around. It details how Chumley came to accept his conflict about food and body image and finally looked long and hard at his weight fluctuations and diet history. Chumley shares his experiences and secrets of successof how he discovered joy and lasting happiness, with permanent freedom from obesity.
Unlike other weight-loss or diet books, The Joy of Weight Loss is a weight-management book that offers a fresh new solution to everyone's quest for health and happiness. There are no magic pills, no starvation or binge diets. There are no crash courses or deprivations. Chumley instead counsels a sensible diet, taking pleasure in pleasurable movement rather than a punishing exercise regime, and, most importantly of all, learning to surrender yourself to a higher power and discover a true form of self-love that is at once accepting and transforming.
Customer Reviews:
eating for the enjoyment of it.......2007-04-02
Norris encourages eating for enjoyment (physically, mentally, spiritually) He sets a stage to do this and uses baby steps to build on.
Not quite my cup of tea........2006-02-17
I like the concept of making weight loss more of a spiritual journey, but Chumley's religious approach is a little more than I can accept. I think if you are really at rock bottom regarding your weight, or if you are quite religious to start with, this book is more likely to be helpful to you. On the plus side, it is simple to understand, concise and well-written. Not a bad read, and has some helpful bits even if you're unable to accept the entire book as a new way of life.
Give God the Glory.......2003-05-15
This is a great book, easy reading, inspiring, and motivational. You can't ask for a better way to lose weight than with God. It's so great, in fact, that a friend and I have started a group at yahoogroups, based on the book...
Awesome.......2001-06-01
This book is full of common sense and good advice. I've lost 25 pounds on it, and it's gone forever. This is the best book.
Thank God for this book. It's great........2001-03-04
This book is the real thing. The author did what few people can do, lose weight and keep it off for good. It's a whole new idea about how to get thinner. No b.s. here. Honest and simple. There's a lot about simple nutrition, but no dieting. I like it because I can eat anything, and often, all day long. Chumley doesn't make me do heavy exercise, either. I started just walking 10 to 15 minutes a day and that was enough and I could do it. Most important, this book brought me closer to God and helped me put my beliefs into action. I'm losing weight with it. Thank God. I think this book can help you too. Give it a try. I also like his website

All your Favorite Foods - Lots of Fun!.......2006-05-12
Love this book! Lots of great recipes and easy planning.
Not What I Thought.......2006-03-16
I had thought this book would be full of common recipes but instead the recipes have lots of ingredients & are just more than I was looking for.
Great for the beginning cook!.......2005-12-29
I was a little intimidated when I saw the recipes, because some of them have a lot of ingredients. Well, a lot for me, who's more of a '4 ingredients or less' type of person. But they're explained really well, and the steps themselves are simple. The ingredients that I've encountered so far are simple to find, and the results are tasty, simple food. Some of the receipes might be a little too elementary for people who have a clue in the kitchen, but I really don't, so it helps me out a lot. Plus, there's a section for kid-friendly dishes, and another that puts together menus for 'fancy meals' with 2-3 dishes. They're a bit more exotic than the tuna salad and angel hair pasta picatta I've tackled thus far.
Oh, and before the section on recipes they have general cooking tips, which is really great. I really like the 'aisle-by-aisle' guide section. It helps to know how to properly store the fruits and veggies I get (and for how long), and what the different health aspects are to different types of fish or poultry or beef, or what different spices are typically used for.
So, for me, this was a great book. Now my only problem is I have so many leftovers piling up because I want to try everything!
Terrific!.......2004-05-16
This is a great companion to Joy Bauer's groundbreaking 90/10 Plan. This is a diet plan that doesn't feel like one and offers stunning results without giving anything up. The recipes are accessible, easy to prepare, and offer a wide range of options for even the fussiest of eaters. This is a book to be used for years to come.

Book Description
Introduction
You are about to embark on an adventure! This study is part of a series designed to help women live out significant Christianity in specific areas of their lives.
To some, developing healthy habits with food and exercise may not seem like a significant lifestyle issue. But those who have tested this guide will tell you differently. Here are some of their testimonies:
I never realized before that my eating habits were related to my obedience to God. As I am developing obedience in this area of my life, it is radiating out to other areas of my walk.
I've been to other diet groups, but none that dealt with the spiritual dimension, and I've come to realize that my poor eating habits are a spiritual problem. Another emphasis I've come to appreciate is that the habits I've learned during these 10 weeks are not a diet, but a lifestyle. I'm going through the guide again, right away, with a friend, to help cement those lifestyle habits.
This guide spills over into all of life: topics like perspective, persistence, and convictions have a much broader application than just my eating habits.
I've never been through a study that kept me so accountable! There were times when I considered bailing out, but I'm so thankful I didn't-not only because of the weight I lost, but because I've seen some real changes in my eating habits.
It's common for weight control support groups to begin with many members and then dwindle. Therefore, make a commitment now to yourself and to the other group members, to stay with the group for the entire study, to weigh in every week, and to do the disciplines required. Sometimes it will be painful, but there's seldom victory without a cost. Determine now to pay the cost.
Customer Reviews:
Fundamentalist diet guidance.......2005-08-16
I did not enjoy this book - it is very "Fundamentalist", which is fine if you are a Christain Fundamentalist - however, if you are not, then it's probably not the book for you!
Practical and Soberminded Approach.......2002-10-13
I Love This Book!! I love it so much that I have purchased 6 copies, 5 of which I've given to others that I know stuggle with weight issues. I am on this site today to purchase several more. This book helps by showing where to focus. So many times we agonize over the symptoms or results of our issues, but never face & address the issues themselves. This book will guide you through a journey to not only face issues, but to make empowering decisions to overcome them. The book is based on sound Christian, Biblical principles. If used sincerely and prayfully this book can help you to not only transform how you look, but also transform your life.
It helped me take the focus off of food and put it on God........1998-08-08
This book is truly inspiring and can help you in many other areas you may struggle with. The principals are simple and brilliant! It is not a diet it's a DO-IT!
My group likes this book........1998-02-09
My women's Bible Study group is currently using this book and really likes it. We are a group of 12-15 women who love to obsess about food once a week. Dee's easy-to-use Bible study is divided into daily portions that are clear and thought-provoking. We also enjoyed her book in the same series about Hospitality.
Book Description
Uplifting eroticism while demolishing myths, "Erotic Book" offers a fresh and exhilarating perspective on the sensuality and beauty of the female body. The author provides readers of "Erotic Book" with insights on what aspects of the female body actually arouse men, and why almost every woman potentially possesses an intensely erotic body. "Erotic Book" rebels against the objectification of women, and presents an understanding of female sensuality that integrates the feminine mind with the feminine body, creating a transcending erotic presence.
Customer Reviews:
One man's views.......2007-07-18
I'm captivated by female beauty, so I was interested at the prospect of a book dedicated to the subject from an artist's perspective. Unfortuately, the author has framed some of his statements to be representative of "most men." It's annoying and sloppy. For example, commenting that many women now shave their pubic hair, he observes that "most men" actually prefer women with pubic hair (without even broaching whether its trimmed or groomed). He fails to acknowledge that preferences vary widely and offers no data to support his statement. He has a section on body piercing where he goes to some lengths to explain how he's finally come around to accept the idea, but only in certain parts of the body, and again women are better off unadorned. Opinions on that subject also vary from person to person. Rather than discussing his preferences as strictly his own (e.g. "As a painter, I prefer 'x' because...") or doing some actual psychological or historical research, this book comes across as the organized ramblings of one opinionated man (whose opinions I don't share) - not intelligent discourse about a beautiful, age-old topic. I returned the book.
A poetic hymn to the female body.......2006-11-12
This slim book is not just a delightful account of the female body, but a passionate hymn to the beauty of woman.
Intensely sensous, but not pornographic at all, it lovingly examines and exalts all the components of her body, underlining their significance from an aesthetic and erotic viewpoint.
It should be required reading for all photographers and painters alike as an introduction to the appreciation of the female body.
Art teachers had better leave anatomy manuals on the bookshelves from time to time and refer to this book as they teach life drawing classes, to arouse the students' genuine interest in what they are drawing.
Erotic Book: Erotica Secrets of Sexy Female Bodies for Men And Women.......2006-08-01
Erotic Book is an open and honest study of the female form, through the eyes of the author. Filger's background in Fine Art Photography is evident by the exquisite detail in which he views every nuance of the female form. Anyone who does not see the beauty in their own body needs to read this book.

This is an amazing book, more so as the author is man, but one with unusual perception when it comes to understanding the female psyche about their bodies and sexuality. Sheldon Filger presents the entire female body as an artistic tapestry, and enables the reader to understand the heavenly beauty that is the body of a woman. I really felt empowered after reading this appropriately-named "Erotic Book." Women will truly feel liberated after reading it--and men will also have new insights, and a wonderful gift for their special woman.
Erotic Book - Learn the Secrets!.......2006-05-14
I found this book very refreshing. Every woman should read this! Learn what turns men on about our bodies before you consider any augmentation, you will be pleasantly surprised. Thank you Sheldon Filger for telling us something we really needed to hear.

Book Description
We live in a society where the pressure to be thin often overshadows our emotional and spiritual well-being. Millions of women measure physical and emotional health with the bathroom scale.
Happiness is not found in a 24-inch waist nor in the number you see beneath your toes.
In this powerful and spiritually inspiring book, you will understand the issues surrounding body image and weight loss-you will learn how to stay motivated, eat well, and exercise properly. This book also provides a proven daily recipe to help you:
Connect with your spiritual nature
Make peace with your body
Lose weight with joy
Losing weight is a legitimate goal, but losing your spirit along with the pounds is not.
Customer Reviews:
A great holistic approach.......2007-07-02
I cannot stress how glad I was to find this book. Finally a book that approached weight loss from a holistic perspective. Instead of just telling you what to eat and how to exercise, this book helps you create a daily plan that addresses not just your body, but your mind & spirit as well. Very well written, sometimes I feel as though the author was telling my story exactly! Definetly highly recommended if you are looking for a life style change.
Dodging a Donut.......2004-02-19
Yesterday, I went to the bookstore in search of another dieting book. I looked at some of the low carb, high motivation - just do it books. As I was sitting with them to decide which one I wanted to try this time, I started experiencing my usual anxiety and overwhelming desire for a donut (truth is a box of donuts). I put the books back on the shelf. I had every intention of leaving the bookstore to get some donuts when I spotted Deborah Low's book, Peace, Love, and a 24" Waist. Something said take a look at it. As I read it, I noticed that I started to feel better. I was feeling a lot better. I bought the book and went home without buying donuts. This was a realization of major proportions for me because once I get that feeling of wanting donuts I have never had anything stop me from eating them. I am only one-third of the way into the book so far but I have to stop a moment and tell you how good this feels to me. I thank you, Deborah Low, for doing your work in the world.
So Refreshingly Positive and Inspiring!.......2003-09-28
We all know the weight loss deal: eat less, move more, stay away from junk food. But there is so much more to the problem or we'd all look like our favorite actress or rock star. I was so relieved and impressed that this book took a whole fresh approach to inspiring the reader to improve their life and their health, beyond the typical diet book facts.
I know what to eat and that I need to be active, but I needed support from someone who knows what it's like to get stuck wanting to do the right thing, but failing to act from a place of self-respect and love. This book gave that to me. What a wonderful life prescription. I highly recommend it.
vague platitudes.......2003-03-24
I read about this book in a magazine and was encouraged by the positive reviews on Amazon.com. I suppose someone who hasn't read much about spirituality or the mind-body connection might find some useful information within these pages. Otherwise, save your money. There is actually very little specific information to aid one in designing a new lifestyle.
I really enjoyed this book.......2002-11-20
This book showed me that although I am overweight it is in my capacity to drop the pounds because I am an individual with unlimited potential. I was reviewing this book online and ran across a self growth book that wonderfully supplemented this book, it was called Dreams: Gateway to the True Self. It helped me to realize my full potential by being aware of my dreams and my potential.

Book Description
JUMP OFF THE WEIGHT GAIN/WEIGHT LOSS TREADMILL AND DISCOVER THE REAL REASON MOST DIETS FAIL!
With so many diet programs available, most overweight people try one after another, with varying degrees of temporary success, but never succeed in reaching the permanent weight loss they so desperately want. In the bestselling I Wish I Were Thin, I Wish I Were Fat, Michelle Joy Levine, a psychotherapist for over twenty years, uncovers the real reason why most dieters fail: an unconscious yet powerful fear of being thin or a desire to be fat! As incredible as this may sound, the poignant and revealing case histories presented in this book demonstrate how childhood experiences affect our eating habits, and the helpful exercises included will teach you how to stop sabotaging your goal of permanent weight loss.
Understanding why we overeat is the first step toward a healthy weight and happier life. This highly acclaimed, remarkably insightful book is a must for anyone who is serious about eliminating destructive eating habits from their lives forever.
Customer Reviews:
Psychological Horse Puckey!.......2004-04-13
Once again another diet/self-help book that blames the overeater's heritage for their addiction to food. Though some of the author's theories are borrowed from conclusive scientific studies, the majority of her theory is that we are fat because our mothers made us that way. Yes, we might have issues with either of our parents, but in the long run we must assume responsibility for our eating patterns.
This book was patronizing and over-simplistic in its approach. Save yourself the $24 and buy a comforting book by Geneen Roth or Overeater's Anonymous.
Not everything is about my mother...........2003-08-12
I kept turning the pages looking for help in my addiction. But, every story written, or explaination given seemed to place the root of the blame on relationships with ones mother. I didn't find this to be a constructive way of looking at the problem, or finding a solution.
Good, but certain chapters were way off the mark.......2003-04-10
I read the entire book in one day it was really interesting how almost all eating disorders are about control, even overeating. It breaks the stereotype that all overweight people are out of control and lazy. It shows how food just like any other substance can be abused in the quest to avoid dealing with emotional problems. My only complaint is how the author gets a little too Freudian in my opinion. Some of the chapters dealing with Oedopus complex are way off the mark and are a throwback to old school psychology. Needed more elaborate case studies with long term results instead of little paragraphs here and there.
Highly recommend.......2001-11-24
Information discussed from a psychodynamic perspective.
A thought-provoking psychology book , not a diet book........2000-10-29
Anyone who reads Michelle Joy Levine's "I Wish I Were Thin, I Wish I Were Fat," will not find a book filled with recipes and diet tips. Levine's approach is to give the reader the tools to work on his or her "inner self". Working on the "outer self" comes later. Are you interested in the dynamics of what makes you overeat in the first place? Do you believe that psychological reasons underlie your desire to remain obese? Some people believe that obesity is purely genetic and has no psychological component. I am open to the idea that it is possible to have an unconscious wish to remain obese because of unresolved psychological problems. Levine's book is well-written and clear. She describes various scenarios in the form of mini-case studies to show how people sabotage their weight-loss efforts as a result of emotional conflicts dating from childhood. For instance, a person who never separated emotionally from his mother may crave the nurturing that he misses now that he is an adult. Food often equals nurturing to our subconscious minds. Sometimes, a woman who fears getting close to a man may remain obese to avoid intimacy. Obviously, no one can be sure that by reading this book, he or she will be able to lose weight. However, I think that Levine offers "food for thought" that may be helpful for those who want to get in closer touch with their "inner selves".
