i found this book very easy to follow and especially liked the routine. each day was alittle different and took about 20 minutes to complete.
Disappointing if you already own the previous edition.......2007-07-24
Conflicting information on the same page. On the left column it states that the best time to work out is as soon as you wake up in the morning. But a box in the right column says to avoid weight training right after you wake up and that it may be dangerous to do so. Uh, aren't these workouts 50% weight training?
The nutrition information can best be described as "confusing." It seems to be in no particular order. There are 700-800 calorie protein shake recipes listed right after the guidelines outlining 4-5 small meals per day totaling 1200-1500 calories. One serving of soy per day is recommended for women, but no soy products are mentioned on the food choice lists. Diets for fat loss and muscle gain are provided, but absolutely NO information about maintenance. Worst of all, the authors seem to encourage us to eliminate all fruit from our diets unless we "can't live without them."
The previous edition was much more clearly written. The DVD would be good for someone who has never seen proper form demonstrated. All in all, save your $$$. If you have the previous edition, you will get more from other books and magazines. Definitely look elsewhere for nutrition advice.

I ended up sending this book back. I just wanted something to help me tone and tighten, but this is more for someone who wants to be really buff. Instead I bought Buff Brides, and mix that up with Pilates. Seems to be working!

If you're new to weight training this is a good book to start. This book includes nutrtion information, and of course, excercises. There are a lot of excercises on machines, which is nice, but I would have been more impressed if there were more things using free-weights or incorporating bosus or balance balls.

Great guide.......2007-05-28
When I bought this book three years ago it was on a recommendation from a friend. I took it with me when I got sent overseas. I have read this book cover to cover several times and have bought the one for abs as well. I have found this book to be a helpful tool ever since I bought it. The book does not promise you results without work, it's straight forward and gives a beginner the knowledge they need to know to excel. I have lost 25 pounds so far by following this book and I am continuing to see results not just in weight loss but muscle tone and more energy. I would highly recommend this book for beginners, I love it and it's easy even without a lot of equipment. I have been able to workout at home with only dumbbells, you just need to be resorceful. If you are commited this book will work for you.

This is a straight-forward, complete book on nutrition, training and exercise for anyone who wants a sculpted physique. It is loaded with exercises for all anatomical areas. There are many exercises that can be done without attending a gym or having expensive equipment. Many are best done in a gym. It is for everyone. I've been body-building for many years. It tells all the things I've learned over time from trial and error, from observation and from asking others. After that, there still was a lot of new info. for me, especially in the area of nutrition and how to use that with diet effectively. There are planned training routines with diets that may be utilized for beginners up to those who want to compete. You will benefit from this book, no matter how much or how little you choose to incorporate. I love it and highly recommend it! It is the one book to buy on body building.

I can actually say this book taught me several workout routines and abdominal exercises that up until now I did not know existed. There are warm up exercises for the abs, medicine ball exercises for the abs, bench exercises for the abs, etc. The book is a very comprehensive manual, it has everything for all fitness level. If you are serious about getting your abs in shape this is a must have book

This book is well-organized and has great pictures of the exercises (even though two of the models do look angry), but it does not specify muscles or muscle groups affected in each move, like many other ab books do. This makes it less useful as a resource when designing your ab workouts. It is very reader-friendly, however, and has lots of other options besides floor exercises for working your abs. If you have a Swiss Ball or Medicine Ball, or access to a gym, you'll probably use more of the moves described.

This is a great book for anyone wanting to get their abs in shape. Different exercises are described in detail with proper technique and form. There are also different workouts routines depending on where you want to be and if you are a beginner or someone who has been exercising regularly.
Exercises vary and are not limited to the standard crunches and sit-ups. Your core is worked to give you a complete workout of your entire abdominal area.
I highly recommend this book along with "the Body Sculpting Bible for Women" for any woman who wishes to get her body in shape.

Workouts for the free weight phobic.......2007-08-08
If someone has never been in a free weight training room before, or believes that free weights will lead to unseemly "bulking" this is a nice introduction to free weight training.
However, if a potential reader is seeking a progressive, high impact program this isn't it.
James Villepique has authored or co-authored a number of other work-out books which are much better for those who enjoy fitness.
If you do enjoy working out, or just enjoy the results, don't waste your money on this book.

the only people that may find this book useful have either never exercised or are very thin with little muscle tone. I did not find it useful because i have been lifting weights for a few years. The most disappointing thing about the book is that several models used appear to be underweight with no muscletone and are absolutely terrible role models for a HEALTHY female physique.they don't look fit-they look like they don't eat.

What a great book! I started the program the beginning of March and am seeing results already. I can't wait to put on a tank top this summer. Easy to read, exercises were easy to follow, and the pictures illustrate how to maintain good form. Well done!

While many of us don't have time to go to the gym, it's great that this workout plan is available!
You can do the exercises at home using light weights and a step. These are inexpensive and you can get them at a local sporting goods store.
The workouts are easy to follow and hit every body part. Nothing is left out. They are challenging but can done by a beginner.
I look ahead to my new body and look this summer...

Gives basic overview of exercises with mini-weights that probably won't get you the beach body you want.
There are better, more realistic books out there (ie: Body-for-LIFE, Sculpting Her Body Perfect). If you're the type who reads Shape magazine, you may like it. If you're a Muscle & Fitness Hers or FitnessRX reader, you will think it's lame.

This book works well for me. I have also used his previous book - Body Sculpting Bible for Women plus I have done weight training for many years. I'm not sure how this would be for a beginner as it is pretty fast paced, but if you're used to weight training and exercise in general and are looking to vary your routine, then this should work well for you.
Not Bad But Not For Everyone.......2005-09-12
I wonder how much trial and effort is behind this book? From what I read in this well-illustrated, plainly-written guide I think this is not a bodily-improvement manual for the average woman and is more suited to someone who is already a fitness and health fanatic. I'm trying to incorporate a few exercises here into my morning yoga but I don't think I'd embrace the entire program. That's just me, though. I don't think anything presented here will harm anyone but it's also not going to be easy enough that anyone can pick up this book, read a few chapters and get going to where she'd see immediate benefit. I guess what I'm saying is the jury is still out on this since I've only had it six days and it's too severe and intimidating for just anyone to get major use from it. But, again, that's just my opinion and the important thing about any exercise or body enhancement project is to simply GET MOVING. If this helps with that then it's done what it's supposed to do. Best of luck on your road to betterment!
