A Potty for Me!: A Lift-the-Flap Instruction Manual
ASIN: 0764152319 |
Book Description
Every little girl's graduation from diapers to the potty is always a very important momentand one to make both parents and toddlers proud! In The Potty Book, Hannah needs to have her diapers changed so she can go out and play. Then mom and dad bring home a big box, and Hannah is anxious to open it up and see what's inside. Is it a rocking chair? A bed for Teddy? No, it's a pottywhich means that it's time for Hannah to graduate from her diapers. This gentle and humorous little story is charmingly illustrated and told in verse. Little girls will enjoy looking at the pictures and having the story read to them. Meanwhile, they'll start getting the idea that it's time for them to grow up, exactly like Hannah. So that at last, they'll be able to say"I'm off the potty!"
Customer Reviews:
She loves it.......2007-09-04
This a short and fun potty book. If you're thinking about potty training in the near future, or even if it's further down the road, I definitely suggest this book.
My 2 year old daughter LOVES this book!!.......2007-07-17
My 2 year old loves Hannah! We would read it several times when she went to the potty. We actually started reading it to her before we potty trained so that she would get the idea. She potty trained in 1 week and is diaper free (even at night).
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU INTRODUCE THIS.......2007-07-10
Our 2 year old was quite comfortable using the potty to pee. When a friend recommended this book to us and in order to move to the next stage we bought it. Error on our part. Our daughter who had never had "an accident" and knew that she needed to pee in the toilet said that it was okay to pee on the floor as Hannah did.
We now skip that page but have to say sadly that we believe this book has pushed us backwards.
If your child is already using the toilet occasionally then this book might not be the one for you.
Not bad, not great.......2007-04-14
I have a 20 month old, and this book just doesn't hold her attention as well as others that have more vibrant images. This book wopuld be better suited to an older child.
A must have!.......2007-04-11
My children wanted me to read this book over and over again. Highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Does a good job of explaining how potty training happens.......2007-06-18
I like this book because it explains potty training as a process, beginning when mommy and daddy bring home a potty chair and ending with the transition to big girl panties. It depicts two supportive parents gently helping their daughter to learn to use the toilet and shows that sometimes accidents will happen and that the child will still need to wear diapers at night for a while. It is also relatable for children, beginning with the words, "Ashley is a girl just your age" and describing how she likes to play with toys and do other things that children like to do.
Best Potty Book We Found.......2007-04-12
We bought this book for our 18mo. old daughter to start potty training as she's been showing all the signs of wanting to go on the potty. She took to it immediatley. She loves the pictures and the simple story line that she can understand about a little girl named Ashley. Whenever we talk about going potty she always says "like Ashee", it's so adorable. I'm positive we'll be buying the same book for boys when it comes time for our newborn son to start training. Great Buy!
OK, but not exciting.......2007-01-13
My daughter likes this book, but not a lot. I think it would be better for getting a child started - she was already sitting on the potty and doing her business before we started reading it.
This is what did it.......2006-09-13
DD found this book at the library and wanted it read to her CONSTANTLY, around the time she seemed to be getting interested/willing to try the potty. She liked it so much I went and bought her her own copy.
She enjoyed other potty books/videos, especially "Once Upon a Potty", but for some reason this one seemed to be the one that did it for her and made the whole idea click.
I think it's well-written and nicely illustrated. Kids can easily identify with the pictures and with the few false starts that Ashley has on the potty, and the questions asked help draw them into the story as it's being read.
DD is 4 now and has been potty-trained for over a year, but still likes to re-read the book on occasion.
I've given it to friends who are going through the potty-training stage, and they've all been happy with it too.
Love this book for my Daughter.......2006-08-26
My daughter really seeems to pay attention when I read this to her and she seems to understand about the potty. I bought this book and the "Too Big for Diapers" book with Ernie featured. She liked the "Too Big for Diapers" book she knew Ernie. She really related to this book because it was about another little girl. I would recommend both, unless you have a little boy then I would a book about a little boy.

The classic books on a timeless subject -- for a new generation.
In 1975, Alona Frankel wrote and illustrated her first book, especially for her son Michael, on how to use the potty. Thirty-two years later,
Once Upon a Potty -- Boy and
Once Upon a Potty -- Girl are the classic books on potty training and have sold more than four million copies worldwide. These children's books help parents everywhere deal successfully with an often vexing challenge for the whole family.
Thanks to their timeless words and beloved images,
Once Upon a Potty -- Boy and
Once Upon a Potty -- Girl are being discovered and used by a new generation of parents. These two books, with their phenomenal staying power, target and meet the needs of an obviously perpetual market.
Customer Reviews:
Daughter likes it.......2007-09-05
Wording: The author uses different words for body parts and functions than our family uses, but that's an easy fix. Change the words as you read it. No author is going to use the same words everyone uses. Plus, maybe these are the popular words in Isreal (where the author lives). I'm an RN, we talk to people about elimination every day. You'd be amazed at the terms people (even adults) use. As a parent, relax, be flexible, and roll with it.
Art: Eye of the beholder. I like the way these pictures look. More like a combo of drawing and collage. There's been some complaints about the picture of urine and stool on the floor. There are similar "accident" pictures in every potty book. Kids have accidents (lucky for me, so far we've only had urine accidents). Teach kids it's part of learning this new milestone. The "pot" looks like a pitcher. We use a potty seat not a potty chair. Maybe I'm lucky, but my daughters have never been fazed by any books where the characters are not using the same type of seat as they do.
It's a bit wordy: We are trying to get our daughter closer to 100% potty trained. But at 3, she's old enough to sit through it.
Bottom line: My child likes it. That's who this whole process is all about. If it helps get her to 100% I'll read it to her twice a day every day.
I have tried many others, and this is THE GREATEST!.......2007-08-08
The lovely PRUDENCE has been around for almost 30 years and is probably the #1 all-time bestselller in this category, but her classic story is fresh and magical and empowering to both you and your child! It is amazing how the writing and illustrations work together to slowly build undertsanding of and interest in potty learning.
When we saw how well the book is working, we rushed to get the DVD - Once Upon a Potty For Her , were delighted with the new and improved plush doll + mini potty paks, and then discovered there is also an actual potty gift box! After wasting too much money on several other potties, we picked up this one - Once Upon A Potty Gift Box With Song Audio Cd - and have never looked back. It works!
not her favorite.......2007-07-28
this isn't my daughter's favorite potty book. She prefers reading "Everyone Poops" actually. There are alot of words to read to her in this book. She can't quite make it through everything I'm trying to read before turning the page. But, she's only 15 mos. old so I'm sure she'll enjoy it more as she gets older. Having been raised on Prudence myself (and so were my sibling & cousins), I love the story. I love that it shows the poop in the potty. My husband's a physician, both of my parents are physicians, and I'm going to be one eventually. We don't believe in using polite words instead of the real ones and definitely don't feel embarrassed at pictures of poop in places where it belongs. This book does not push any lines for me; actually, I can't stand the potty books that beat around the bush and don't even show that there is supposed to be poop & pee in the potty when you're done. At least this book tells it like it is even if it uses one too many words.
Don't waste your money.......2007-07-19
This book is too long, not age appropriate and is annoying to read. The pictures aren't really age appropriate for a young child (perhaps it would be better if you had an older child you were trying to potty train - but I doubt it). The only thing my daughter enjoys is looking for the pages with poopoo on them. Don't waste your money on this one. There are many other cute potty training books out there. I just bought the sesame street one and my daughter loves it and I don't mind reading it.
Once Upon a Potty -- Girl.......2007-07-14
Great potty training book for potty training.... There is one for boys and one for girls.... I have been giving for gifts for years... Cute idea for new baby shower.... IF you know the sex of the baby ahead of time.!!
Product Description
Stimulating interest in children is key to potty training success. Motivate and reward children using 126 full color stickers. Positive reinforcement gives children pride and a sense of self-accomplishment. The 126 stickers (each a one inch diameter circle) have images of different potty related subjects - no repetition. Many stickers have toddler girls for children to imitate. After successful potty attempts, place a sticker on the child's shirt or use the chart (which you can hang like a calendar) provided. Potty training works when it's fun!
Customer Reviews:
not impressed.......2007-10-06
cheap crappy stickers, not cute at all. my daughter is much more motivated by dora and disney princess stickers that i paid $1.50 for.
Waste for a girl who is refusing to potty-train.......2007-08-12
My daughter didn't want to potty-train because our lives were so hectic. New home, a recent move, and a new baby. She was physically ready to potty-train, but not emotionally so she was refusing to potty-train. I tried this book for her to see if I could motivate her, but she refused.
Eventually, my daughter became potty-trained with outside help. Her playgroup teacher took one day to potty-train her. My daughter played with the stickers, but the chart was useless.
I would suggest that if your child is not completely ready to potty-train, don't buy all these extras. If your child is ready and you just want some little rewards to help, this would be fine.
Both of my daughters used this!.......2007-07-18
I used this for my first daughter [...] when she was going through potty training, and am now using another one for [...]old. Both of my girls love using these stickers - it really encourages them to use the toilet...just so they can add a new sticker to their chart! Love it!
Potty reward stickers.......2007-03-08
My daughther loves her sticker book and eagerly uses the potty so she can add more stickers!
Girls potty stickers and chart are OK.......2007-02-21
There are indeed 126 stickers included in this book. And there is a chart. The chart is enough for all. However neither the stickers or chart are what I'd call motivational or exciting to look at. We had to suppliment the stickers with some of our own, because our daughter likes ones with faces or animals or things like that. These are mostly illustrations of things like pottys or toilet paper, etc with motivational sayings that would be interesting if she could read. I supply enough encouragement, and I wish that the program was more visually compelling.
Book Description
Take the worry out of toilet training with these two engaging books, specially designed to motivate boys and girls to get excited about using the potty.
Customer Reviews:
very cute book.......2007-10-06
great pictures and rhyming story, dd loves this one more than the others. probably because of the real pictures instead of cartoon drawings.
girl book.......2007-08-07
my daughter melissa likes to go potty on the big toilet and she used a stool to stand. My 3 yr old daughter Melissa loves the disney princess toilet seat ring. she likes it alot
Great book!.......2007-06-11
Overall, I think it's a great book. It engages my daughter and reviews the basic steps she needs to learn about using the potty. Great pictures and layout.
Very nice book!.......2007-05-10
I really liked this book because it had real pictures of a little girl using the potty. This really helped my daughter to see that girls like her do use the potty. The little girl in the book is very cute, and has a big smile on her face, and I think this was also good for my daughter to see her smiling. I highly recommend this to anyone in the potty training stages with their child.
Not worth buying.......2007-05-09
I have two children of potty training age...a boy and a girl. I bought both versions and they are both pretty much useless. Neither one of my kids are intersted in the book...there is no storyline or cute characters. It is more of an encyclopedia of potty. Not really worth buying in my opinion.

Customer Reviews:
LOVE LOVE this book.......2007-05-09
I simply love this potty book. I have two children of potty training age...a boy and a girl and I bought both versions of it. My kids love the book and really like the flushing sound. Now when we have "Potty Time" the kids even say "flush, flush, flush" just like the book.
My Daughter Loves it!.......2006-06-25
Even before my daughter was close to potty training, she loved this book. There is a little button in the book that, when pushed, makes a little flush sound followed by a little girl's giggle. Whenever my baby would hear the giggle, she would start laughing. Now that she's ready for the potty, we'll use the book as it was intended. There is even a little chart included for tracking "potty progress."
Great little book for little girls.......2006-03-02
My little girl loves this book. She is only 22 months old, but I have been trying to introduce the potty and let her get used to the idea well before it is time to train. She loves books and just loves this one with it's "flush" button. It is a great flushing sound. The only problem we have is that so far, she just wants to keep pushing the button and not hear the book!
It's a Miracle!.......2006-02-10
I had been trying to potty train my daughter off and on for over a year. I bought this book at the suggestion of my sister-in-law and within two weeks she is now trained with only a few accidents here and there! My sister-in-law used the boy version for her son and said that he was trained in a week. Now, I can't say for sure it's the book, it could be that she was just finally ready (she's now a little over 3). But for the price of this book I would highly recommend at least trying it.
Good book, perhaps for older toddler.......2006-02-04
Just bought this book for my little girl (16mths old) because it had good reviews and because it has the 'hand washing' step. The book is cute, clear & short. And my daughter loves to "flush". But I was a little disappointed that there wasn't enough explanation of the process. The girl in the book already knows that she needs to go potty. There is no explanation of the fact that it's ok to have accidents, or how to tell Mum you need the potty or that you need to pull your pants down etc... I am pleased I got the book, my daughter does enjoy it but I would have liked a little more build up to using the potty. Perhaps this would be better for a child who already understands the concepts involved.

Book Description
Are you ready? It's potty time. DK has just what you need to introduce the concept to your little one. Here are two new his and hers photographic potty books perfect for toddlers. My Potty Book For Girls and My Potty Book For Boys demystifies the often strange world of toilet training with ease. These step-by-step books start with the "novice" who is still in diapers and progress to the successful child who is gaining control of the situation. Toddlers are encouraged to "Take a seat" with a gentle "Take your time, there's no need to rush" approach. Photographs of real children will capture any child's attention and help develop confidence. At the end of My Potty Book parents will confidently exclaim, "Hooray! You did it!"
Customer Reviews:
My daughter loved it..........2007-06-27
...so now we have it memorized!! Yes, this book is very simple. It does not attempt to over-analyze or explain why you should go potty or talk about stuff that a 2 year old doesn't understand or care about anyway. It is a bunch of different girls exploring the potty. My daughter would sit on the potty and "read" it to herself over and over. She would giggle when the little girl put "potties on her feet" and say "noooo..." The important part for her was that there was no pressure filled words about why you should use it, and it was filled with pictures of girls that she could relate to. We had a hard time potty training her until we found this book. My daughter was stubborn and just didn't want to take the time to go potty. She would have accident after accident and didn't care if she made a mess, as long as she didn't have to stop what she was doing right then. Once we found this book, potty time became enjoyable to her and she stopped having accidents.
Not very good.......2005-08-15
This book has a great shape which my 18 month old loves to hold, and great photos, but as far as a potty training book goes, you can do much better. Once Upon a Potty is probably the best one out there, though it's kind of a long story and my daughter won't sit through it. Still, it has a good amount of detail to it. My daughter's favorite potty training book is by far A Potty for Me! by Karen Katz. Just the right amount of detail with nice pictures and a great story.
So what's wrong with My Potty Book? It's too simple. It shows a bunch of kids playing with a potty, then they sit on it then it tells them to wee, use toilet paper, wash their hands and they're done. It's almost too simple even for a child. Every other potty book I've looked at deals a little with the anxiety that a child might feel. The two other books I mentioned explain how babies use nappies, and then when they're ready, they move onto a potty. They try it, but it might not feel right. They try and try and after some practice and patience, they finally use the potty. Both are very cute, sweet and supportive. My First Potty Book is more like a collection of photos of kids playing with potties with a few lines of text thrown in. If you're hoping this will be your only potty training book, I think you will be very disappointed.
Finally a potty book for the "rest" of us.......2005-01-07
Why are all potty books illustrated with white/pink girls?? Finally, here is a potty book for the rest of us, one that shows children who look like *my* kids learning to use the potty.
This book is a bad influence.......2004-07-06
My daughter loves this book, but I hate it. It shows pictures of a little girl standing in a potty, and with a potty on her head. The accompanying text says that this is not what you do, but the pictures are compelling. AFter reading this book, my daughter started standing in the potty, saying "no, no, no!" I think the book would be a lot better if it only showed positive pictures.
This is a GREAT BOOK!.......2003-08-19
This has got to be the best book I've bought for my daughter! I bought this book when she was 6 months old, and it has been her favorite book. After reading this book to her hundreds of times, she was able at 11 months say "Potty" and have the concept of what & where her's was. We bought a POTTY to match the one in the book. And at 13 months she is very close to being potty trained. What I love the most is the photo's in this book, They are actually little girls of all kinds using all kinds of POTTIES! This is also why my little girl loves this book, because what child don't enjoy looking at other children!

Great for Spanish-speaking caregivers!.......2007-05-12
I bought this book for my 18 month old son. We have been introducing him to the potty and he has the book in English--every time I say, "It's time to go to the potty!" he runs to find the book and then sits and turns the pages, pointing out and naming all the parts of the little boy's body. (So it's obviously great in English too:) My son goes to a babysitter who speaks almost no English, and so I try to pick up the books he has in English, in Spanish. I couldn't find this one in any store in NYC--strange, I thought--so I just ordered it and it came promptly and he is using the potty at the babysitter's now, too!
A "potty classic", but too abstract........2004-10-16
I think this is a cute, clever book, but it's a little abstract. The "chamber pot" that he uses as a potty looks nothing like today's potty chairs or toilets, so I'm not sure my child ever made the connection. (Especially since half of the book talks about "Is it a hat? Is it a flower vase? etc") There are other, more modern, books out there that I think gets kids' attention more.
This book taught my little boy so much!!!.......1998-03-05
This book is Great!! My little boy looks at the pictures every time he goes.

Gets the girls to go potty.......2007-04-13
Excellent and cute pictures. My daughter loves it. It is an excellent book to read while sitting and testing the potty chair :)
Short but my daughter likes it.......2006-11-22
This is the second potty book that we got for my daughter (she's 2 1/2) and she seems to like this one best. We've gotten a few from the library as well. This book shows a small assortment of animals trying to use the potty. You lift the flaps to see if they can go potty or not. Then they show the girl. She doesn't use the potty yet but she's learning. She goes potty and she washes her hands. It's short but pretty cute. My daughter likes to read it while she sits on her potty and she knows all the words already. Not the greatest potty book ever but it's pretty good.
