Disappointed with this Book.......2007-09-29
I found this book disappointing except for the cookbook section that was the best part of the book. Otherwise, the book has contradictions and old information. I found very little that was new.
The author says "nutrition is the vital key that determines the condition of the body's internal environment." Later he says the body is so complex it cannot be measured with one variable. This is one of the statements that seem contradictory.
In his theory he says traditional medicine sees "health as a war that pits your body against outsider invaders (eg:, germs, viruses, and other pathogens." ." This is similar to the germ theory or single cause theory that has long been out of vogue in health and medicine. He then says "we believe the body is in balance with itself and with the physical world in which it exists. Illness arises when the equilibrium is breached." This is similar to the Multicausation theory that conceptualizes health and illness as processes in which factors in man, the agent, and environment interact to cause health or illness and in which interventions can take place at various points in the process to strengthen man, reduce the strength of the agent of disease or disability, and to make the environment less favorable for a forceful impact between the host and agent. Man is healthy when these are in balance. This theory is not new but has been around during most of my 55 years of practice. .In addition, his application of the theory has a narrower focus in that it ignores the influence of the mental and spiritual aspects of health, of relationships, and of politics. These have all be shown to have an affect on health and illness in current research and are identified and well documented in Healthy Holistic Aging: A Blueprint for Success.
The diet discussed in the book is also not new and is, in fact, very similar to the diet prescribed for me 31 years ago when I was diagnosed with lung cancer. It is also similar to diets currently advocated by other authors such as in the cardiovascular diet that is also used for weight loss called the South Beach Diet that maintains and improves health. and the diets advocated by Edgar Cayce back in the 1930's for keeping the body alkaline to maintain health. In addition, the liver cleanser described has been around for many years and can be found in books on alternative health.
Carl O. Helvie, R.N., Dr.P.H.. Author of Healthy Holistic Aging: A Blueprint for Success
Swiss Secret to Optimal Health.......2007-08-23
I do not recommend this book because it has no scientific basis. It is just one man's opinion of what he thinks will work.
The Answer to today's medical crisis and to disease........2007-06-29
I am a practicing neurosurgeon in the USA, trained as a traditional allopathic doctor at an Ivy League school with the addition of a PhD to my MD degree, yet I didn't understand the true origin of our ill or aging body and it's 'diseased states', nor did I learn the answer as to finally preventing these states, until I studied with Dr. Rau. You won't need pills to treat illness or fatigue once you've learned how to cleanse your body of it's toxins and rebuild it the natural and healthy way. I urge you to read this user friendly version of Dr. Rau's God given insight and hard learned approach to becoming healthy (via true healing) and ultimately preventing illness.
TAKE WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.......2007-06-01
Although I believe Dr. Rau's philosophy about the direct connection between nutrition and health, I find this diet to be very difficult to stick with and very extreme for an average, healthy person.
It is similar in philosophy to a Macrobiotic diet but the influence is European cuisine as opposed to Asian cuisine. It prohibits the intake of sugar, caffeine, processed foods, alcohol and animal protien, while greatly increasing your vegetable and grain intake. I've done the Macrobiotic diet and I experienced increased energy, vitality, better sleep, better mood, etc. Dr. Rau claims that this is what you'll experience with his diet . However, when I did the detox, I experienced headaches, nausea, and a general feeling of illness the duration of the diet and I feel it was due to the total lack of caloric intake. I do think cleansing the body is a good thing and fasting for one or two days can be beneficial. However, I do not feel his detox diet is a healthy approach for healthy people. His claims are that you will feel better and better as the days go on but that was not my experience. In my opinion, no diet that limits your caloric intake to a few hundred calories a day is good for the body. Nothing extreme is good for the body and his detox is way too extreme.
If you do decide to get this book, some things you should know:
The recipes for the three week plan and the one week intensive detox require a lot of cooking and preparation. Because it is based on the regimen done at his clinic/spa in Switzerland where meals are prepared for you, it's difficult for a regular person's lifestyle and schedule. You would basically have to take a week off from work to start the diet and that is unrealistic for most people. I also found more than a few inconsistensies: Dr. Rau opposes any dairy from cows, but some recipes call for cream and butter! Some of the ingredients are very difficult to come by. One day's meal required chestnuts and since I started the diet in Spring, they weren't available and he offers no substitution. Dr. Rau isn't thorough in his explanation of preparing some of the recipes because one recipe on the restrictive detox, he requires you to prepare a corn chowder, but doesn't explain how you are supposed to prepare the leeks in the recipe since you aren't supposed to saute anything. Dr. Rau suggests that hunger would not be a problem because of the food intake. Well that isn't true. I was very hungry all the time because of the limited caloric intake. Dr. Rau is adamant about following the diet to a tee so these inconsistensies were frustrating and it left me pretty doubtful about his claims and philosophies. I felt like he and his publisher were in a rush to publish the book and get it out and I also got the impression that it was more to promote his clinic/spa in Switzerland.
Would I suggest this book? Unfortunately, no.

Dr Rau's Diet.......2007-04-16
I love to eat and love to cook, enjoying a meal is important at least three times every day. At almost 70 health is a concern, even though I'm in excellent condition and able to maintain my weight and frequent exercise.
Dr. Rau is focused on good food and nutrition. His recipes are easy to follow, inventive, and very appetizing. Some are old favorites and others are new combinations of textures and flavors. A lot of what he says has to do with the quality of life, eating organic fresh vegetables and fruits is a no-brainer. Perhaps we need to be reminded about the many toxic ingredients we regularly put into our bodies and see the many alternatives available to us.
His Swiss Detox diet appears to be a way to establish a personal and individual basis related to one's own body. He addresses allergies, our immune systems, how different foods affect our body and how we can recognize their effects. The factual basis of his work is both scientific and intriguing.
What interests me most are the food choices in his diets, tremendous variety and a rich palette, an opportunity to both eat well and enjoy new recipes. He also recognizes we have a sweet tooth and delicious deserts are included.

Suzanne Somers may forever be ingrained in American minds as the ditzy blond from Three's Company, but her five past bestselling diet books prove that her fit figure is admired by millions. Now in her 50s, Somers has endured what she calls the "Seven Dwarves" of menopauseItchy, Bitchy, Sweaty, Sleepy, Bloated, Forgetful, and All Dried Up. She claims that until one tames the hormonal roller-coaster of menopause, there's little hope of losing weight: "If your hormones are out of balance, no weight-loss program will work for you." She recommends supplementation with "natural, bioidentical hormones" available from a compounding pharmacist, or an endocrinologist specializing in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). The synthetic hormones so widely prescribed, she says, cause the body to "mimic pregnancy," and result in a "high-insulin state," both of which lead to weight gain and bloating.

Read our interview
with Suzanne Somers |
While finding these natural hormonal supplements may be difficult for some readers, as the majority of BHRT-prescribing endocrinologists practice in the Los Angeles area, Somers stresses it's worth making the trip for a BHRT appointment. Moreover, readers may balk at a major side effect of taking bioidentical hormones: the return of one's menstrual period. "To me, having a period is a small price to pay for great health, increased vitality, and a slim figure," she says. Somers adds to her hormonal advice a detailed menu plan, which includes limited amounts of whole grains, and plenty of fruits and vegetables. She also recommends a few "high-glycemic" foods to avoid at all costs. The recipes are mostly drool-worthy, with dishes including Chicken Parmigiana and Warm Chocolate Soufflé Cakes, with the less labor-intensive dishes requiring some of her packaged Somersize-brand sauces, spices, and sweeteners. While the hormone supplementation in her plan may be hard to come by, her dietary advice is much more sensible than what you'll find in the majority of weight-loss books these days.--Erica Jorgensen

From Suzanne's personal recipe collection |
| Suzanne Somers lifts the veil on her upcoming books, Somersize Appetizers and Somersize Cocktails, revealing two mouthwatering recipes that will get your party started, the Somersize way.
Chili Braised Pork with Pocatello Salsa in Butter Lettuce Cups
From Somersize Appetizers - PRO/FATS & VEGGIES - LEVEL ONE
Serves 8
This spicy and delicious appetizer is perfect alongside a cool and refreshing mojito. For Level Two serve on crispy-fried whole-wheat tortilla triangles.
| CHILI BRAISED PORK:
1 3-pound pork butt, cut into small chunks
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
I red bell pepper, seeded and medium dice
1 red onion, medium diced
3-4 jalapeno chilies, sliced
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 cup chopped tomatoes
2 cups chicken broth
16 small butter lettuce leaves (to use for cups) |
JICAMA GARNISH:
½ jicama, julienned finely
½ red onion, sliced thinly
2 teaspoons olive oil
Juice of ½ lime
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper
TOMATILLO SALSA:
6 tomatillos, cut in half
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper | For Pork:
Season pork liberally with salt and pepper. In a braising pan (or stock pot) over medium high, add olive oil and pork. Sear on both sides. Add peppers, onions, chilies and sauté for about 10 minutes, until golden and caramelized. Add tomato paste, tomatoes and chicken stock. Bring to a boil and cover. Reduce heat to low. Cook until pork falls apart, about an hour. Remove from heat. Remove pork, reserving the liquid and allow pork to cool. Pull pork into small pieces. Place pulled pork into a bowl and add 4-6 ounces of the liquid. Set aside.
For Jicama Garnish:
Toss all ingredients into a nonmetallic bowl until well combined. Allow flavors to combine for at least 30 minutes.
For Tomatillo Salsa:
Preheat oven to 400. Place tomatillos onto a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil, salt and pepper. Roast in oven until caramelized and soft, about 35-45 minutes. Remove from oven and while still warm, chop until they become the texture of chunky salsa.
To assemble:
Place a spoonful of pulled pork into each butter lettuce leaf. Top with jicama garnish and a dollop of salsa. Serve immediately.
Somersize Mojito
From Somersize Cocktails - ALMOST LEVEL ONE
This Cuban drink is light and refreshing with a burst of fresh mint and lime. Normally it's sweetened with sugar, but I use SomerSweet instead. I have to say, I actually like the taste of SomerSweet better! Sugar can leave a bubbly film in your mouth but SomerSweet is so clean and fresh tasting. Traditionally this drink is made with rum, but I much prefer the taste of vodka. Make it either way you like. This is the perfect summer drink and if I had to pick only one cocktail in the entire book, this would be it. There are many different preferences when it comes to this drink. I tend to like mine with strong lime and mint flavor. Some like it less intense with more club soda. Adjust to your liking.
1 1/2 oz light rum
4-6 fresh mint leaves
1 ½ Key lime (preferred) or 1 regular (Persian) lime
¾ teaspoon SomerSweet (or 1 tablespoon sugar)
2-4 oz soda water
Add mint leaves, lime juice, pressed limes, and SomerSweet into a highball glass. "Muddle" ingredients with a wooden stick or handle to release mint flavor. Add ice, rum, and soda water. Serve with limes and leaves in drink.

Book Description
Who says you can’t sizzle in the second half of life?
At last, a solution! In Slim and Sexy Forever, Suzanne Somers outlines a program speci?cally designed to address the needs of women and men who want to lose weight and replace the lust for life that naturally wanes with age. In this “baby boomer’s recipe for the fountain of youth,” Suzanne shows you how to:
• melt away the unwanted pounds
• reinvigorate your sex drive
• capture youthful vitality
• develop a more positive outlook on life
• sharpen memory
• eliminate hot flashes
• achieve optimum health from the inside out
In her runaway New York Times bestseller The Sexy Years, Suzanne changed the way we look at our health and hormones, showing how replacing hormones lost in the aging process with natural bioidentical hormones can eliminate symptoms associated with aging.
Now, in Slim and Sexy Forever, Suzanne combines her cutting-edge information on natural hormone replacement with her successful weight loss program, Somersize, for a one-two punch that is the only proven solution to the problems associated with aging. Working with innovative doctors, Suzanne has created a program that alleviates symptoms such as mood swings, sleepless nights, hot flashes, and diminished sex drive that are so common as we get older. Simultaneously, her phenomenally successful Somersize program shows you how to beat a stalling metabolism and stay lean and trim while eating remarkably delicious food. With millions of people losing weight on the program, it is a proven formula for success.
Suzanne makes clear in this fascinating new book that if your hormones are out of balance, you will not be able to lose weight. Weight loss must be approached with a twofold strategy as you get older: balance your hormones the bioidentical way and eat correctly. One doesn’t work without the other.
In Slim and Sexy Forever you’ll also learn:
• The truth about carbs: Depriving yourself of too many carbs will lead to hormonal imbalance and weight gain. Eat the right carbs to lose weight!
• Plateau-busting tips: Suzanne explains why you hit plateaus and exactly how to push past them to achieve your goal weight.
• The connection between adrenals and weight gain: If you blow out your adrenals trying to be Superwoman, you are going to gain weight and feel fatigued. Find out how to prevent that from happening.
And, as always, Suzanne makes losing weight easy with more than 100 delicious new recipes, including Crab Bisque with Sweet Corn and Crab Relish, Somersize Tex-Mex Chicken Drumettes and Meatballs, Peppered Pork Chops with Fried Sage Leaves, Warm Chocolate Soufflé Cakes, and Wild Berry Crostada. These are Suzanne’s best recipes yet!

Informative book.......2007-03-22
I've been a struggling lacto-ovo vegetarian for 16 years. Busy career/life made me take the easy route...whatever you can lay your hands on to eat that was meat free. PU! This book helped me in my search for a better way to eat, especially on the run.
appreciate life.......2007-03-09
A truly inspiring read that won't end up on the bookshelf but remains handy every day!
I completely restructured my pantry and more so my thinking about what I put where my mouth is.
Supplements are just that, the true benefit comes from whole fruits and vegetables. I've been a lacto-ovo vegan for about 18 months and still going strong. My biggest challenge was the proper intake of protein. After reading Brendan's book I'm closer to an inner and outer nutritional balance than ever.

Unique!!.......2006-12-15
First, let me comment on all the criticism that the author is selling his own product (Vega)... how can you complain when he gives you the recipe to make it?? The recipe "Nutrient-rich shake" is on page 87. You don't have to buy his product, you can make it yourself. Personally I did this for a while and found it too time-consuming (just as the author says). I ended up ordering his product, but have no regrets. I really like Vega and will continue to purchase it - it's expensive, but you can tell when you use it what high quality it is.
Now about the book... For such a short book, it's PACKED with information! This book deserves a lot of credit for providing such a complete picture of stress - what it is, where it comes from, how it affects your body, and how to deal with it. Stress is stress, regardless of the source. Although this book is mainly concerned with stress from physical exertion, the information will help with whatever kind of stress you have.
The recipe section in this book, though short, is excellent. Several of these recipes have become regulars in my diet and are committed to memory. One unique thing about the recipes is they show which nutrients each ingredient is adding. For example, a banana adds electrolytes, a half tbsp hemp oil adds Essential Fatty Acids, pumpkin seeds add iron and zinc, and so on. I really enjoy this feature; it helps me better understand the nutrition (rather than just following a recipe). It's probably my favorite part of the book, next to the information on stress.
I've read at least a dozen different raw food health books and they all have their merits, but I have to say that this book is unique. I am so glad to have it in my collection. I'm giving copies to some of my health-conscious friends for Christmas this year.

Sixth Year in a Row.......2006-01-06
My wife and I have done this cleanse for five years now and will be soon starting for the sixth year. We do it in Jan/Feb every year as a way to recouperate from the holidays and kick-off the year feeling great. As others mention in their reviews, after only 21 days, I feel completely different, lighter (a by product of the cleanse is that you can lose significant weight - a lot of it is water weight which your body usually retains so it can "flush" out the toxins that comes from eating commerically packaged food so a portion of the weight loss comes from the fact that as your body sheds the water when all you eat are organic foods, drink filtered water and no garbage - alcohol, refined sugar, packaged foods, etc.), your skin truly does glow, more energy, and an all-around feeling of well-being. About 20 co-workers have incorporated this into their lives and many friends have also done it simply by seeing the effect it has on me (my wife and I don't really evangalize it among our friends/family). This is one of the only times I've talked the cleanse diet up in public. Yes it's a bit time consuming as you make most of the food from scratch but that's the whole point. For three weeks, you hit the pause button on your normal intake of food, and shift your daily consumption routines and get really aware and focused on what you put into your body. Really convienent food tends not to be very good for... which shouldn't be news to anybody. Those who are lazy and have no will power will not enjoy or complete this relatively short but highly effective regime.
Detox programme works well, but format could be clearer........2004-09-24
I've used this book's detox programme twice, once six years ago and once this month, September 2004. I've found it really effective. The first time I did it I felt great, plus I lost 16 pounds and 2 inches off my waist, and kept it there for 4 years! So I recently detoxed again because I do like cookies etc! It worked well again. I found the book's format was very readable, and the articles for each day were interesting. For the daily menus during the 21 day prgramme, I would have preferred it presented more in simple lists and tables, not so many wordy paragraphs. I had to search for the information and write up my own schedule and shopping lists. But that's not much work, and if you really want the detox to succeed, it's worth that effort. Very good; reccomended.
a HUGE was of time.......2003-04-23
This book outlines a diet that is a huge waste of time. The diet is impractical, the sections are poorly organized, the shopping lists are worthless (they omit many items needed for meals) and the premise of the whole process is based on pseudo-science and new age mumbo-jumbo. You'd be better off going on a strict, vegan, no protein, no carb diet for three weeks than trying to adhere to this crazy diet! The weight loss experienced by this diet would be due solely to the lower caloric intake and have nothing to do a some 'magical' combinations of 'problem foods' that you have avoided. Of course, my 'problem food' combination is a big mac, french fries and a milkshake -- so maybe it does help???

This was the first detox book I have read.
It involves a lot of planning & preparing.
What I gained from the book: rediscovered taking baths, understanding how my colon should properly function (& how my protruding stomach was due to a bloated dysfunctional colon), some wonderful liquid concoctions & that my menstrual cycle is necessary for cleansing & how to help it along. I saved the activities for those weekends or nights when I didn't have responsibilities to deal with & my boyfriend in the house. They served as a nice treat.
The most visible improvement was my skin. About more than a year ago I started getting really bad acne again, since about 6 years ago. The Rejuvalac drink seemed to clear it up. In fact I stopped using it & the spots (which I believe were due to some bacterial imbalance) came back. I then started to drink it again & it's been about 3 months & still clear. You need to hold your nose when you drink it but it doesn't have a bad taste.
By the second week I unfortunately gave up. I work full time, go to school and the plan is just too complicated and time consuming for me right now. Its been about 4 months since I started it & I still try to do some of things suggested in the book though. I have gone back to some of my bad habits though.
Unlike one review, and i've reread the book a couple of times, I don't remember the author claiming that her food combining principles are the reason that will help one lose weight. She only claimed that eating certain foods together leaves gases in your stomach, which makes one's stomach protrude. And she only claimed, as a by the way benefit, that one would 'may' lose some weight while following this.
The program is time consuming & somewhat expensive. The book does say that doing the entire program is somewhat impossible but the author wanted to give enough so that the individual readers can tailor/omit things. I live in hippie town San Francisco so finding the ingredients at my local organic, non-meat, bulk food, co-op health food store was easy enough (though time consuming & expensive). I can only assume it would be hard trying to find all of it if I didn't live in this diverse city though.
I gave the book 4 stars for the wealth of information the book provides. I give myself 1 star for not following thru. But I plan to revisit the book once (if) I get it back from my friend.
Once I finish school this next year I plan to see if I can do the entire program all the way through.

Great Book to Unlearn All the Nutrional Misinformation Out There!.......2006-08-07
Robert Crayhon has done as excellent job in this book. Each chapter is dedicated to a specific nutrtional subject, so you can flip around in this book, as is appropriate for your needs. However, I recommend reading it in its entirety because he is right on with accurate nutritional information. This will help you get to the real truths on how to eat healthier and help you to be able to decipher reality from all the "nutritional noise" out there. Buy it for a life-long reference book.
Robert Crayhon's Nutrition Made Simple.......2005-09-12
My wife owned this book and I read it several years ago then again recently. I have read many diet and nutrition books over the years and I consider this one of the best. It is well written and informative as can be. I am giving several copies away to co-workers because I want them to benefit from it.
Excellent book!.......2001-11-22
This is a great all round book that I recommend to everyone wishing to learn about the fundamentals of nutrition and the lifestyle changes necessary for acheiving optimum health.
I definitely recommend this book.......2001-07-12
This book has helped me to understand nutrition in a whole new way. The writing is straightforward and simple. I wish I had heard about this book sooner.
I WISH EVERYONE IN AMERICA WOULD READ THIS BOOK.......2000-10-20
In the late 70's, I read Nathan Pritikin's books and adopted his guidelines. Coming from the typical junk food diet, it was a major step in the right direction towards good nutrition. Last November, I read Robert Crayhon's Nutrition Made Simple and adjusted my diet to comply with his guidelines where it disagreed with Pritikin. It has been the next major step for me in the direction of eating healthy. By following the guidelines in Crayhon's book, I lost 20 lbs without even trying and without going hungry (I'm 5'9'' and went from 200 lbs to 180 lbs). I attribute this to a fact pointed out in Crayhon's book that when a person eats highly nutritious food, his body doesn't need or want to eat as much as when eating typical American junk food. Plus the body's got the nutrients it needs to burn the excess fat. This book lives up to its title -- it takes a complex (and heretofor confusing for me) subject and makes it easy to understand. To me it clears up so much deception fed to us (pardon the pun) by the American media and food processing industry. I think everyone in America needs to read this book and put it into practice. It would probably bankrupt the health care industry because so many sick people would get well naturally. I wish I had known and put into practice what this book explains years ago. Unfortunately it took hypoglycemia and a host of other maladies to make me give up the typical American diet (by which I mean fast food, highly refined and processed food, long shelf life foods, etc). The only thing I did not like about this book is that it did not have a lot of material on herbs. (Anyone know of a good book on herbs?) And the index at the back of the book is rather poor. I hope Crayhon comes out with an updated version soon.

Detoxification and Healing: The Key to Optimal Health.......2007-02-07
I really like this book. It is not too big but and not too hard to understand. I met this wonderful doctor and he knows his subject very well.
The first book on this topic that I've gotten excited about!.......2006-02-01
I wish every mainstream doctor would read this book. I've read a half dozen books on detoxification, and this is the best! His presentation is clear, concise, and backed by science. The case history examples he is able to present to testify to his claims, come from his 30 plus years in medical practice. I'd much rather read the instruction from a person so well versed in biochemestry than some of the other books that offer only the testimonials of lay-persons as proof that their ideas are sound.
Not what I expected.......2005-02-19
I thought this book was going to be more about detoxification through nutrition. Instead, it's about supplements you can take to alleviate nutritional deficencies. Baker does do a super job of showing the food/body/ health connection. He also clearly illustrates how all the body's systems and functions are connected and dependent on one another. This book is much more open minded and thoughtful in the art of healing than modern medicine, which refuses to admit that diet affects your health. It's a pretty good book but I wish he spent more time on actual foods than supplements.
More than the usual "detox" book........2004-01-16
This is a book written by an Orthomolecular doctor at his best. What you get here is much more than "how toos". Detoxification is about working from the fundamentals of a system and out from there. Dr. Baker, in speaking about this subject, gives a great example of how balance and imbalance, in healing, has always made perfect sense. This is a very enlightening and informative set of ideas that can help open new ways of thinking. Not, "way out - new age" concepts, but common sense connections about how our choices effect us and how we can be empowered to make changes to heal. I recommend this highly and also for anyone that wants to get a very good glimpse at how a good Orthomolecular doctor thinks about things.

very good results.......2007-01-10
This train of thought is not far from how I was raised but todays world is so easy to get sucked into fast foods, even in my own cooking. My child's behavior was dramatically improved by eliminating the sugar and trans fats. In the long run, of all the things we tried this absolutely had the best response. But it is truly the hardest to be compliant to.
Miracle Book.......2006-12-21
My son has ADHD and we have struggled for years with every type of medication the doctors pushed at us. My son did not do well on any of the medications that we trialed. He became someone else, lost in his own mind. He became very agressive, alienated, depressed, not able to gain weight or sleep. I made the decision that I wanted to try something different than the medications that made my child foreign to me. Thank god that one of my friends had started seeing Dr. Bob and told me about this book. I was very skeptical at first. I remember thinking to my self that there was no way this was going to work by food modification and vitamins. A few weeks after we started the modifications to the diet I started noticing little changes. About 3 months into it I could not believe that I had my child back. He was happy again, wanting to play outside and with his friends. He could concentrate at school and was not angry or defiant anymore. He had put on about 8 pounds. Best of all he was off the medication and his body was health again.
Dr. Bob's Guide to Stop ADHD in 18 Days.......2006-10-31
I am so thankful that I discovered this book one and a half months ago. My 6 year old little boy has always been hyper and was having an increasingly difficult time at school. His teacher knew that we did not want to medicate him and had been trying to use behavioral charts and reward to encourage him. He was suppose to receive 4 stars a day for sitting still and listening quietly. Day after day he came home with either one or no stars. At this point I found this book. We always ate fairly healthy...but I began using more organic products. I gave him an excellent natural vitamin, magnesium and began giving him flax oil each day. Dr. Bob wrote that Omega3 has a half life of 18 days and therefore effects should be seen in that time period. Amazingly...this happened...after three weeks of flax oil...my son began receiving 4 stars...we have now had three weeks of consistent 4 star days. He is so proud and we are just amazed. Every time I go into school I now hear something positive about my little guy...he is still high energy...but it is a different level...he can control it now, and calm down when he is told and even monitor himself and behave in the way that he knows is appropriate. I just need to say thank-you Dr. Bob...your book has really changed the life of our son and our whole family!
Great Book!.......2006-10-21
Dr. Bob's Guide to Stop ADHD in 18 Days is a terrific resource, not only for families of children w/ADHD, but for anyone wanting to improve their lifestyle naturally. Although it is geared towards treating the child with ADHD, it will overall improve the entire family's health, as it provides a wealth of great nutritional information! I would highly recommend anyone with a child with ADHD read this book, it will really get you thinking about what we are feeding our families, and what we should be eating. Anne Grein, Ste. Genevieve, MO

Customer Reviews:
Just a great book !.......2001-09-30
This book is for anyone who may be skeptical about eastern medical practices, but who may be longing for a better, more holistic view of medicine than is provided by their own western doctor. The book outlines various common ailments and then describes the treatment diagnoses, first from the view of western MD and then from the view of an eastern doctor, without any bias towards either. You are able to learn the strengths and weakness of each method of healing so you can make up your own mind which is better or more effective. Its also a great, easy to understand primer of all the eastern philosopies and terms you've heard of before but not clearly understood like Qi, maintaining balance (yin/Yang), Accupressure, etc...
A definite must read for anyone dealing with a chronic illness or who feels like they've reached the limit of what their western doctor can do for them.
Practical and power-packed!.......2001-08-19
A terrific, power-packed book of practical information about the Chinese and Western systems of health and healing, and how you can apply them to your life.Valuable healing remedies and insights are on every page. Specific healing remedies for many of the most common diseases and health problems are outlined.
