Pretty comprehensive title.......2007-09-02
This book does a nice job of covering the Transformers universe, from comics to small screen to toys to fan fiction. Long-time fans will appreciate the G1 homages, a look at the UK comics and G.I. Joe cross-overs. New fans will appreciate that the Beast Wars and Beast Machines continuities are also covered.
The only things not included are the 2007 live-action movie or a comprehensive look at the several Japanese anime series. If you're interested in those, this book is not for you.
The graphics are a nice conglomeration of comic art, screencaps, new art and actual pictures of toy lines. The book covers general storylines in the many comics and animated series, including the many continuity problems that arise. However, this is not a catalog of every Transformer character out there. If you're looking for a bio on your favorite character, you probably won't find it in this book. The main characters highlighted are Optimus Prime and Megatron.
The only shortcoming the book might have for some is its preference for the Furman continuity, which is presented as gospel. If you're not a Furman fan, or are unfamiliar with his work, it might be confusing.
Continuity problems aside, this is a fun product. Worth having for fans new and old.

This book comes with some good artwork and nice facts, but it is nowhere near what could be called an ultimate guide, it's more like a quick factbook. It spans very little of the toylines, and each series, in very few pages. I wouldn't recomend it for the fans to the extrreme fans unless you just want a nice small book with good artwork in it.
Increase this book size by about 2000 pages and put a gigantic ammount of information in it, then maybe it would be a nice thing to buy, but comon a paragraph at most for each transformer other then the leaders, Unicron or Primus.
Again in a nutshell this is not a book for any fan or diehard fan, it's more of a begginers book for children who have recently gotten into the Transformers via the series or the recent movie.

This guide is absolutely excellent!!! Has alot of history behind the trasnformers and waht they are about, and ALOT of great information and pictures on Generation 1. A definite pickup for any Transformer collector!!

you wanna see omega supreme, look here loved his intro he took out skywarp and soon thuindercracker, scremer, buzzsaw, rumble and frenzy followed into oblivion cool skids took out ravage, then we saw the intro of the aerialbots, stunticons, battlechargers, combaticons, and protectobots love it oh yeah prime died too classic tf fan baby why so sad everybody knows you cabn bring whoever back from tghe dead.

Reprints issues #19-24, this is volume 4 of a 14 volume set, so far 4 volumes in and it just gets better as the groundwork is set, characters keep popping in, the epic feel is still there.
this is a book any fan will want though make sure you get the first 3 volumes if possible since even though they print these in 6 issue arcs it's really one huge 80 issue story and that's what makes it great, it spans the universe, battles are huge, the stakes high and it's a hell of a ride.
i have been a fan since since they first came on tv and never got a chance to read them but thanks to these trades i have been able to correct that, the movie that is supposed to be due out in 2007 is what spurred me on to buy them again, i had worried about finding old issues since they can be $10 or more for a single issue, but i found these books, now i can follow the whole story.
if your a fan then get them, no question, if your not a fan these will make you one, it has action, a great story, larger than life battles, giant robots fighting for the sake of the galaxy..there is a reason it's held strong for over 20 years.

All Good Things Must Come To An End.......2006-04-12
The series of UK trade paperbacks is a wonderful, if not consistently suprising, alternate timeline to follow if you consider the US Cartoon to be the REAL story. Starting with TARGET 2006, the space time continuium is altered with Galvatron's appearence in 1986, 20 years before he is forged by Unicron from Megatron's tattered form, and wrecks havoc on the universe and every faction of Transformer: Autobot, Decepticon, Wreckers, and any and all free agents. From FALLEN ANGEL, LEGACY OF UNICRON and SPACE PIRATES, it all comes to a head in TIME WARS, where Optimus prime squares off with Galvatron to save existence. The artwork is superb, very simple yet characteristic depictions of famed indivduals we grew up with and the page size makes it a quick read and reread!

love the transformers stories this one was an all time classic megatron meets galvatron and both take out the wreckers, and the mayhem squad, then galvatron takes on optimus prime, rodimus, scorponok, and ultra magnus and their crews all by himself good story all tf fans should buy it as for poor shockwave he went to great lenghts to prevent his death that happened in 2010 and he was really killed by death's head but then again he was killed by megatron, and galvatron in 1991.
Transformers: Time Wars - a fitting end.......2003-10-04
I read this when it first came out in the weekly Transformers comics, and I loved it back then. Looking back now, it still stands as a great story.
The art is exemplary, showing just how much better than their american cousins UK comics looked in those days. Compare this to US Transformer work and there's no contest. Even when the same artists followed Simon Furman over to the US title, they didn't look this good. Even today, few comics look as nifty as this one.
Possibly knowing that he was off to write the US comics, Simon Furman used the Time Wars to wrap up the years of Movie-related storylines he wrote for the UK title by bringing pretty much every cool Transformer together for a big scrap (although Death's Head was sadly busy in his own title), including the long-awaited fight between Optimus Prime and Galvatron, something that was always rendered impossible by Prime's all-too-common "deaths" and disappearances whenever Galvatron turned up.
Not as fresh or as exciting as some of the earlier epics (Target:2006 and The Legacy of Unicron are better), this is a fitting end to the "Galvatron Stories", and like the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline it resembles, will give the continuity fans great, but worthwhile, headaches!

In A Sticky Situation.......2004-06-05
If you're a Transformer fan into collecting stickers than this book is for you. I bought it maily for the nostalgia factor since the dioramas on the backs of the G1 toy boxes are included. You also get 61 stickers of many G1 Transformers. The book has spaces for 27 of the stickers and gives a short description of the character next to each sticker. I guess you are supposed to stick the remaining 34 stickers on the diorama pages (four of them one page each) to "create your own Transformer adventures." The stickers are mainly the pics from the covers on the G1 toy boxes with a few artist renderings and Dreamweave designs.
I wish the book were longer (it's only 7 pages long) and used more of the included 61 stickers. Also there is too much focus on Optimus Prime (8 stickers). I would have liked a wider range of the G1 series covered (the only charactes from the third season are Hot Rod and Ultra Magnus). I suspect children 5 - 8 will enjoy this most if they even are familiar with G1 Transformers.

What a great way to learn mathematical concepts! My granddaughters and I had to try each of Zack's classroom demonstrations for ourselves just to see how they really worked. Math was never my favorite subject in school, but the mathematical principles illustrated in this book are presented in such an entertaining way that I found myself wanting to see more books like this. Great Book!

This is the Transformers the Ultimate Guide Softcover! This book has everything the hardcover edition has but with brand new sections. This book has the history of Transformers: Generation One, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Transformers Robots in Disguise, Transformers: Armada and etc., If you want to learn about the history of the Transformers toys, comic books, and cartoon then I would recommend this book! The new sections are Transformers Industrial Design Works sections, Transformers: Alternators, and the Transformers: Classics toys. I do not know why? But there is no information about the Live-action Transformers movie in this volume or its toys? A

this is the best transformers book you could get very informative gets you update about everything transformers but i wished it had trailbreaker and huffer in the book but other than that it is a very excellent book i am glad i bought it because im a huge transformers fan

This is more recent than the 1st edition hardcover: If you *need* to have the newest ultimate guide, this silver paperback is it. You get the same content (G1, G2+, pictures of toys, comics, etc.) as the original white hardcover, plus 8 all-new pages.
First, some related items...
1. Transformers: The Ultimate Guide- hardcover. A very well made book, especially for G1 fans! And...
2. The Transformers - The Movie (20th Anniversary Special Edition). The *first* movie (animated), bridging G1 & G2.
Yes, this slightly newer paperback version has 8 new pages, but none of these cover the live action movie just released. It seems safe to say that if you already bought the hardcover, then this paperback is really unnecessary. They'll probably update both versions soon with pictures of the live action movie & toy tie-ins, right? So I know I'm sticking with the hardcover until the next edition is released. The hardcover is also better made (in my opinion) and goes well with the other DK hardcovers I bought. If anyone's curious: The 8 new pages in the paperback are split evenly in 2 catagories: 4 detailing recent IDW comics, and 4 showing pictures of various toys (2 pages of Alternators, and 2 pages of Transformers Classics). I'm thinking the official 2nd edition of this guide will be released later this year, or the first half of next. Until then, this silver paperback is OK- but I'm recommending the elegant hardcover as being the better overall design.

Disappointing.......2007-06-18
Volume 2 of the Dreamwave series is a significant improvement from the trash that Chris Sarachini put out in Volume 1. However, compared to all of the comic runs based on the Transformers in the 80's and early 90's, this story is extremely lacking in substance. There are a lot of attempts at fan appeal , but the story just is not very compelling. If you are not already a fan of the Transformers, I would not recommend this book. If you are a rabid fanboy collector, you might want to pick this one up.

I really enjoyed this book because it's the amalgamation of the Transformers season 2 and 3 combined. In fact, everytime I get out of bed, I always read that book every time because it's something I always wanted to see Autobots from season 1 meeting up with the Autobots of Seson 3. For example, Ironhide and Kup are actually best friends and battle buddies. How come we never get to see it on television?! My favorite part of the book was when Starscream shoots Megatron in the head sending him tumbling into space just like the variation of a scene from the movie. Volume 2 is all action and everything that Transformers fans wanted othan than the first volume. Brad Mick utilized every characters including those were not shown in the original comics line or on television. This book is good and I recommended to every Transformers fans.
Solid, consistent story tainted by Dreawaves' arrogrance.......2004-12-20
Dreamwave are an upstart company that claims to bring the Generation One Transformers to thier former glories, and to his crddit, "Brad Mick", a self confessed fanboy, achevies this.
"War anmd Peace" is a Furman-esque look at a Cybertron united by everyone's favourate comic villain, Shockwave, a minor Deceptacon lackey in the excellent Generation One cartoon, who once more has been given lines he was given in the Marvel comics about betraying both Autobot and Deceptacons to suit his one need for power, also making apperances (some for blatant fan-appealing reasons) are Alpha Trion, the Sharkitons, and Ultra Magnus' rarly seen in the comics (ever) cab robot body.
The story follows all the classic formats, Starscream's trecerhosu side, Megatron being ejected into space despite still functioning (a prize for anyone who can guess where that reference came from), Hot Rod and Kups' bickering, and of course, the ever dependable Matrix of Leadership, what fan appealing comic could do without it?
The only problem is that most Generation One fans would prefer it if this new continunity did'nt basically ignore the events of the conistently darker third season of the Generation One cartoon, it just tells you right there that Mick and Dreamwave clearly hated the fact that Optimus Prime was killed off in the film and are trying to create an alternative timeline for fans who felt the same to follow...a bold move, and one that turns them into utter hypocrites.
A solid story that panders to fans of Generation One, but seems like it's trying to tell you "follow our continunity, follow our continunity, follow our continunity"
An Epic........2004-08-26
No two ways about it - this is the best Transformers story of all time. If you have any appreciation for the G1 characters at all, you will love this and beg for more. The first book, Vol. 1, was a fun little story which re-introduced us to our favorite characters and helped us remember why we fell in love with the Transformers when we were younger. The colors and artwork were great, and the preview at the end set the story up nicely for this sequel. The thing is, however good that book was, this one is twice as good. I'm not kidding.
Remember how, in the old cartoon, characters would just suddenly appear in the show? Remember how older characters would just disappear? This story explains all that. It's a finely crafted tale of Cybertronian politics, which - although a little confusing at times - somehow manages to keep a fast pace while becoming more and more interesting. Almost all the Transformers you've ever noticed are included, and each manages to take an important role within the overall story. Pre and post-movie characters all interact together like a fantastic dream. All five of the Dinobots are back, as are the Protectobot and Stunticon teams. We see the introduction of Hot Rod and friends, and even learn why the Ultra Magnus toy had a white "Optimus Prime"-type figure inside it! Others, such as Ratbat and Smokescreen, are given the introduction that they should have had back in the old cartoon, while characters like Ramjet and Blitzwing are given extra time to develop their characters a little more. Even the Go-Bots are included, although perhaps not in a way that fans of that series would appreciate... hehe. ;)
The bottom line is that this story fills in almost all the gaps and fixes plot-holes from the old G1 cartoon. It's very exciting, and you'll be able to watch that old cartoon with a new appreciation for the characters that suddenly appeared. All alliances and events are fully explained in the back of the book, and it even ties in to "The War Within" series by Simon Furman (a prequel series of sorts). The script is very good, with accurate character personalities, and the artwork is somehow even better than it was in Vol. 1 (which itself was amazing)!
I was skeptical about this series of books because of a few negative reviews, but now I'm hooked. I wouldn't even be surprised if this particular story is used for the upcoming live-action movie (being released in 2006). Both this and Vol. 1 are well worth the money, so don't hesitate like I did. Get them now! :)

More than meets the eye.......2005-07-22
Reprints issues 13-18 of the old marvel comics series from the 80's, and it's aged amaingly well, as I said in the reviews for the other volumkes I have read it's amazing how much fun this is, I know you have went back to a chidlhood favorite at some point and found it rather lacking now, maybe wondered how did you ever watch that or enjoy it, but with this book it holds up and i guess that's why it's had such staying power and you see a new set of books even with new adventures written, but this is where it all started.
this is a good book for all ages but don't think it dumbs things down badly for older readers it, it's still a joy to read, and it's nice to know you can drop this book down in front of your kid and let them escape to a world of robots, of fun and worlds to explore, though watch out, they still make transformer toys and i'm sure you remember how much money you sank into them when you were a kid, and this will get anyone hooked for the first time or second time.
