Book Description
A fascinating synthesis of ancient wisdom, modern medicine, scientific research, and personal experiences that proves that the human heart, not the brain, holds the secrets that link body, mind, and spirit.
You know that the heart loves and feels, but did you know that the heart also thinks, remembers, communicates with other hearts, helps regulate immunity, and contains stored information that continually pulses through your body? In
The Heart's Code, Dr. Paul Pearsall explains the theory and science behind energy cardiology, the emerging field that is uncovering one of the most significant medical, social, and spiritual discoveries of our time: The heart is more than just a pump; it conducts the cellular symphony that is the very essence of our being.
Full of amazing anecdotes and data,
The Heart's Code presents the latest research on cellular memory and the power of the heart's energy and explores what these breakthroughs mean about how we should live our lives. By unlocking the heart's code we can discover new ways of understanding human healing and consciousness and create a new model for living that leads to better health, happiness, and self-knowledge.
Download Description
In this groundbreaking book, bestselling author Dr. Paul Pearsall explores the emerging field of cellular memory, one of the most significant medical, social, and spiritual discoveries of our time. Using well-documented research and stories from numerous transplant patients who experience emotional connections to their donors, Pearsall reveals that the heart thinks, feels, remembers, and communicates with other hearts. The heart, not the brain, conducts the energy that becomes the cellular symphony that is the essence of our being.
In addition to describing the damage that ignoring the wisdom of the heart can cause on both a personal and sociological level, Pearsall shows how to listen to the subtle energy of the heart and learn its valuable lessons. By unlocking the heart's code, we can discover new ways of understanding healing and human consciousness -- even as we create a new model for living and loving that leads to better health, happiness, and self-knowledge.

INTERESTING, BUT FALLS SHORT.......2003-08-15
This book covers much material that is not new, but which is interpreted in a new way. Other authors have written about forms of intelligence and learning that don't seem to depend on the brain or intellect. Larry Dossey's concept of non-local consciousness, and Rupert Sheldrake's "morphic fields" arise from the same anecdotal evidence that Pearsall presents in this book. The difference is that Pearsall attributes this unexplained knowledge source to the heart, the most powerful organ in our bodies. Pearsall believes he has found evidence that the heart (as well as other cells in our bodies) retains memories about us and possibly about other people with whom we are close (and maybe holds ancestral memories as well).
Pearsall uses anecdotes from heart transplant patients, many of which seem to indicate that the recipient takes on some of the characteristics of the donor, and sometimes even knows things about the donor. These stories are compelling, but they do not add up to proof that the heart has memory. In my mind, they DO add up to evidence of the connectedness of life and the existence of psychic connections between people. What better way to create a connection than to transplant living tissue from one person into another? To anyone who believes there are forms of knowing that do not arise in the brain, Pearsall's stories are hardly unexpected. He cites many sources and quotes other authors in his quest to make his case, but other explanations make as much or more sense than Pearsall's.
Organ transplants themselves are controversial. I think it possible that organ transplants could impede the spirit of the donor from moving on to the next dimension, instead remaining earth-bound because part of his/her body still lives. Pearsall has raised the question of just what is transferred (besides the organ) from donor to recipient. The heart is obviously an important part of us and is a metaphor for love, so it stands to reason that whatever essence of the donor is in the heart would have some effect on the recipient, and the recipient may have some effect on the spirit of the donor.
The famous Dr. DeBakey says the heart is "just a pump" and perhaps he is mistaken. But does the heart possess "memory" or does its energy still contain part of the spirit of the donor, or does the donor reach out from "the other side" and communicate to the recipient? I have no answer, but I'm not inclined to accept Pearsall's arguments.
The book also becomes tedious with repetitious points. It seems like the major ideas could be stated in far fewer words. The author also uses his own experiences as a cancer patient in forming his theory. His own story is interesting in itself, but does not supply any evidence for a "heart's code." In the end, we have highly subjective ideas based on anecdotes that can be explained by a number of other theories (which the author is fair enough to summarize in this book).
Personally, I do not support organ transplants because of the grossly unfair so-called health care system in the US. Only people with a lot of money or fabulous health insurance go on lists to get a transplant. Once they get the new organ, they must take very expensive drugs every month for the rest of their lives. If they miss taking their drugs for even a month, their body will reject the transplant and they will die. I would not want to live with that pressure, knowing any month I was unable to come up with a large sum of money for drugs, I would die (and just try getting health insurance if you've had an organ transplant!!). People may see transplants as a life-saving technique, but they are also a big money-making industry driven by highly-paid specialists and unwarranted drug company profits. Only the rich and the lucky benefit, and there will never be enough donated hearts for all the potential recipients.
Getting your head together, with your heart.......2003-05-06
Dr. Pearsall has hit a home run in a ballpark unfamiliar to most ordinary people who still think that the brain in your head is the mastermind of thought and behavior. What Pearsall has contributed, especially in terms of learning, creativity and memory is to reshape our foundations of perception that "love, dignity, relationships and integrity" might, after all, be the driving forces of human progress. Even if one considers "The Heart's Code" as a mere metaphor for our consciousness, without the empirical evidence of the role of the heart in human thought, Dr. Pearsall moves us closer to an integration of body, mind and spirit in a pracitical way, empowered by the heart.
Good Concept - Boring Book.......2002-05-26
While I accept the theories presented in the book I think Pearsall worked so hard to appear completely scientific that the book became incrediblely boring. He repeated himself in an effort to appear seriously scientific and lost the humaness of his story.
The history of my feeling.......2001-11-13
For my entire life i have felt what the heart's code is finnaly scientifically explaining to me. People believe that it is their conscious' telling them what is going on, but i belive that it is your heart and your brain conflicting between your two options. i have felt my heart telling me what i need and i have felt my brain telling me the same and i have always followed my heart. i believe that the knowledge your brain carries will never overpower the capability of your heart. thank you for finally explaining what i have been feeling my entire life.
Cynical read.......2001-11-01
Alothough Pearsall's book posesses much information about the new study of energy-cardiology, the author is very cynical towards the brain. The book talks of how wonderfully compassionate the heart is, and how selfishly greedy the brain is. And after reading the text on subjects like this, Pearsall sounds like the kind of person whom, if you didn't act completely contumelious towards the brain, he'd say you were denying the truth.
Besides his crude anecdotes about the brain, the information and stories about the different transplant patients he's studied in the past is a great and mind-opening read. Actually, everything besides his comments about our brains, is a marvelous source of new, interesting information about the L-energy/energy cardiology observations and studies.
Recommended, but not highly.

From the authors of Smarter Than You Think, the revolutionary book on teaching and understanding your dog in hours rather than months, The Heart of the Matter takes the next step in addressing dog and cat behavioral problems and nutritional needs--with detailed explanations of the health benefits of fresh food and the health and behavioral problems possibly caused by some commercial foods for pets. The authors have created an innovative and eye-opening approach to living in greater harmony with our beloved dogs and cats.
Forget obedience school, forget the choke chains. Paul Loeb and Suzanne Hlavacek eschew even the word training with its negative connotations of crates, muzzles, cages, and other devices of animal cruelty and control. They explain "The Magic Touch," a simple method of creating immediate and positive behavior change without gadgets, practice, or pain. They take a very thorough look at nutrition and its ramifications for pets' health and behavior, and debunk numerous "well-known truths" of animal care and behavior. The goal is to acknowledge and understand your pets' personalities, enjoy each other's company, and not end up with a furry robot-pet. This is a refreshing and unusual approach, and the book entertains with stories of the authors' and others' hilarious adventures and misadventures with dogs and cats. --Mark A. Hetts
Book Description
Paul Loeb and Suzanne Hlavacek presented a revolutionary -- and surprisingly simple -- approach to teaching and understanding dogs in Smarter Than You Think. Featured on NBC's Dateline, that acclaimed volume has been embraced by scores of fans who have seen Loeb's methods work wonders with their "problem dogs." Now, this acclaimed animal behaviorist joins his partner Hlavacek to further enrich our bonds with our dogs and cats with a guide to giving them the best care possible and to deepening the special love that is at The Heart of the Matter.
This breakthrough book offers a whole new perspective on the human/animal relationship. The Heart of the Matter features a three-point approach to your animal's health and well-being:
The Magic Touch -- how to make a profound and lasting soul connection; including sharing dialogues and conversations with your dog or cat
Diet -- how you can ensure balanced nutrition with an astoundingly easy food plan
You -- what you need to know to end behavioral problems, allergies, and more.
These are the keys to creating harmony between yourself and your dog or cat. You'll gain a fuller understanding of their needs, abilities, emotions, intelligence, and highly developed "super senses" -- and delight as they become well-behaved, truly integrated family members, and trusted friends.
Loeb and Hlavacek also tackle one of our biggest obstacles to animal health and happiness: the startling conspiracy between pet-food manufacturers and veterinarians who sell "premium" food that can keep animals susceptible to illness, skin problems, and other chronic conditions. How can you feed your dog or cat and break this chain of codependency? The answers will surprise you; the solutions are right at your fingertips.
Filled with fascinating, often amusing, case histories -- including amazing accounts of improved health based on dietary changes -- this is the essential care guide that animal lovers have waited for. With the compassionate advice in The Heart of the Matter, you can create a powerful connection -- and enjoy the gift of looking into your animal's eyes and seeing love.
Customer Reviews:
Doesn't deserve the vitriol some reviewers are emitting..........2007-04-22
except in regard to the quality of the writing. The authors' style can best be described as "wretched." I think the content is closer to 4 stars, and the writing should get 2. The style is attempting to be funny and cute (it's not), and the authors seem to think bragging about themselves and putting down other behaviorists will inspire confidence (it doesn't). As other reviewers have noted, the book is at least a third longer than it needs to be.
However, there are some unfair criticisms as well. ALL animal behaviorists are operating out of their own beliefs about dog and cat behaviors, and the ones who cite "studies," aren't necessarily on very solid ground (even if the studies are properly done, and even if they say what the behaviorist thinks they say, they don't usually provide genuinely empirical support for an entire theory of behavior). There's nothing inherently weird about these authors believing that your companion animals should be socialized to humans instead of to other animals. Moreover, just as no theory of teaching works for all children and almost any theory of teaching will work for SOME children, believing that only one behaviorist is "right" is just asking for the universe to send you a pet who will turn your beliefs inside out! The authors think the pet food we buy is bad for our pets and that many of them have behavioral problems due to food allergies. In view of the recent evidence of massive contamination of pet foods, I don't think we can dismiss their concerns out of hand. (And if you'd ever had an animal with food allergies, you'd KNOW they can affect behavior.) I would caution here, though, that they're overly simplistic in their feeding advice and have forgotten to mention some common human foods that can be toxic to animals. There are some excellent books and websites that explain how to make your own pet food and I would consult them before trying it. (Me, I'm still using commercial foods.)
I was amused to see that one reviewer's rather hysterical characterization of "bolting your dog to the floor" was merely the authors' belief that it's better to have your dog on a secure short leash in every room than to use a crate. Gee, people, what do you think owners did before crate training? They used baby gates in the kitchen or laundry room, stuck a short leash over a doorknob, or installed a secure eye bolt to hitch the dog to. I'm an advocate of crate training because I work outside my home, but if I were home most of the day, I think their approach would be perfectly reasonable.
The major strength of this book is the "magic touch" ( yes, it's a ridiculous name). I don't care what the theory is: it's simple, it's harmless, and if it works for your dog, it really will seem like magic. ONE slipper toss cured a barking problem that was driving me mad (and that other training methods weren't touching) and I'm now targeting a few other really irritating behaviors. The emphasis on human language (rather than barking out one or two-word training commands) is also positive from my perspective, and it certainly can't hurt. Some reviewers are aghast at the idea of an occasional quick smack on the rump; please read what the authors actually say about this before leaping to conclusions -- if you don't agree with them, fine, but they are NOT advocating cruel or inhumane treatment.
I'm a huge fan of Carol Lea Benjamin, and her training approach is, overall, the one I like best. (She can write, too, and her mystery fiction is excellent.) However, with my current dog, some things just weren't working. I adopted a young dog who really was socialized to dogs more than humans (his litter had been abandoned near people who do vacation kenneling, so he was raised with a large and constantly changing group of dogs). He is sweet, intelligent, and loving -- and adding the "magic touch" to the training repertoire is rapidly making him fun to live with, too. We're both a lot happier now!
Must read book for dogowners.......2005-07-28
Great book. Have read numerous dog training books and this one was an easy read that held my attention. It works too. The techniques the authors suggest seem a little different at first but if they end in the desired results, it's worth the effort. Definitely read the nutrition section and you will be shocked to see what goes into commercial dog foods.
a trained dog!.......2005-06-29
i trained my first dog with the book "smarter then you think" (also by paul loeb) and got wonderful results so when i got a pyrenees-mastiff puppy that bit my fingers, played the "catch me if you can game",had no respect for me (or my books) i decided i needed to read "the heart of the matter". i trained my dog not to run away not to chew on me and now she respects me and looks up to me (oh yeah she comes when called and shes only 9 weeks old. this book trained this dog in less then an day.) not to mention my mom who does not have to deal with the smell of pee all day. dont even get me started on how much she loves her fresh food. this is a must read for any one with a dog.
PET OWNERS, THIS IS A MUST HAVE BOOK!.......2003-02-14
I thought I knew all about my children (my Yorkie and my Poodle), but this book was enormously eye-opening! It is easy to read (you won't want to put it down), and so informative that you MUST have this book in your library!!!
The Best Dog Traing Manual EVER!.......2003-02-05
This book is amazing. I have three dogs. A beagle, a labrador and a rottweiler. They do exactly what I say when I say it and seem to love me all the more. I really understand them now, and see my mistakes in dog rearing in the past. I have never found a book like this. You do what he says, exactly, and it works. Period. No nonsense - a slap on the behind is effective punishment for some offenses. The "throwing technique" is the best. If your dog is doing something wrong, correct him verbally and if he ignores you, throw something at him! It doesn't have to hit him - I use sock balls with pups - and your dog will obey you immediately. This guy is Dr. Doolittle. Got a dog? GET THIS BOOK!

Book Description
With the recent upswing in professional ethical misconduct, a comprehensive reeducation in ethical concepts is imperative. This text represents my understanding of the ethical principles from early Greek society to today's society. It clearly outlines the logical historical beginnings of ethical thought, gives students a greater appreciation for the validity of established ethical concepts, provides for a greater understanding of the various aspects of professional ethics and legal issues, and presents workable mechanisms for the prevention, management, and resolution of ethical and/or legal situations in the realm of dentistry.
While other texts on this subject appear to be written to appeal primarily to one audience (i.e. dentists or dental hygienists); this text will be valuable asset to dental students, dental hygiene students, practicing dentists, and practicing dental hygienists. By utilizing a simple, 'to the point' approach to dental ethics and legal issues; I feel that anyone who reads my textbook will benefit from my apporach to the subject matter.
The specific questions that this book will address are listed as follows:
* What is ethics?
* Where and how did ethics begin?
* How are ethics, religion, and the law related as guides for our actions?
* Are the concepts of Aristotle, Aquinas, and others valid for modern-day professional applications?
* How do ethical principles relate to the dental profession?
* What are some of the consequences for violations of ethical principles?
* What happens when ethical violations become legal problems, and what types of civil and/or criminal issues may practitioners face in today's society?
* How can practitioners minimize, manage and resolve the various ethical and/or legal situations they may encounter in modern dentistry and dental hygiene?

One word to describe this book.....AMAZING.......2003-11-23
"Code Of The Heart" by Earl Avraham David is a must read for the bible code expert or the bible code novice. Though this book teaches the importance of Judaism to the world and the rich history and future of the Jews foretold in the Torah, its literature is not bound by any single religious group to read. If you are a believer in God, or a doubter who needs proof that the Torah is the word of God then this book is for YOU. While other books on the bible code simply tell you the discoveries they made, this book will do that AND give you step by step instructions in Gematria so that you to can conduct your own research into the mystery and depth of the Torah. You will be taught several different methods of performing bible code research. One may also be surprised that through Gematria, they will be able to find their name in the hidden context of the Torah which actually is quite simple to do, and the code can reveal your nature or behavior. If you think that your birth name doesn`t have any influence on your life your wrong, read the book and you`ll see what I mean. The author in addition shows how the Parsha of the week influences current events such as the War with Iraq, 9/11, the allegations of rape aginst Kobi Bryant, the Hunt for Saddam and more. The old saying is true "History repeats itself.", the past and present tie together. "Code Of The Heart" by Earl Avraham David is a great read and when one is done with the book, one can look back to it days, weeks, months, or years later for advice, inspiration, or research. I strongly recommend you buy this book. I suspect we will be hearing alot more from Earl Avraham David.
inspirational.......2003-10-21
I have read the book and it is most interesting and inspirational as we live in a world of fear and instability and Earl David, with the aid of his codes, shows how G-d truly loves even in the end of days as we see that the term love is encoded where Jacob discusses the end of days. He also has excellent analysis of the roots of Islamic Terrorism. This is a must read in todays uncertain world.

Dr. James Thogtam: A classic book for those in the field
WITH THE SEVENTH EDITION OF BRAUNwald's Heart Disease, the editors have accomplished an impressive feat: improving on an already classic text. With 36 new chapters and full-color figures and photographs, the new edition is substantially altered in both content and appearance. Compared with the rather limited color-plate photographs in the sixth edition, the color photographs, figures, and tables in each chapter significantly enhance the new text.
Informative chapters on the foundations of cardiovascular medicine remain, including detailed discussions of history taking, physical examination, and electrocardiography, topics often overshadowed in an era of rapidly progressive medical technology.....
The seventh edition of Braunwald's Heart Disease would be a worthy addition to the medical library of any practicing cardiologist, cardiology fellow, or health care practitioner with a special interest in heart disease.
