Book Description
Millions of people wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead. But too many people don't. Building on the basics of sleep, nutrition, and exercise, Bliss Spa founder Aliza Baron explores every aspect of lifestyle to help beat personal energy deficits. Advice relies on identifying realistic goals for increasing your personal energy, depending on age and situation, and on identifying key energy zappers that can lead to fatigue. Building blocks are presented throughout -- small changes that can make long-term differences to energy levels; energy boosters for a quick pick-me-up; case studies of real people who have overcome an energy crisis; and a foundation of energy tips to help beat fatigue in everyday situations.

gibberish.......2007-08-06
Broer is also a spokesman for Fundamental Baptist Chistianity and lectures about ' God's divine diet plan'. Outside of a book that advocates taking vitamins and then dashes wildly into the mystic unknown, it is obvious that Broers' plan might help Broer's pocket book a whole lot more then he helps the reader. Once again, it would seem that a christian fundamentalist that appears on TBN, is taking fleecing the flock to new highs.
Maximum energy.......2006-03-02
Its really amazing to know the amount of "bad" foods (or what is considered food)that is being sold on the market. This book was truly an eye opener on how we are being sold alot of products that manufacturers know are harmful to our bodies and increase the chances of major diseses.
After following the guidelines outlined in Maximum Energy I really saw a difference on how I felt...I no longer felt tired and run down when I got up in the morning and I was able to think more clearly and got alot more done during the day. This book is a must read.
I read this book in about 5 days.......2005-09-13
And would recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their health.
He discusses things that I have heard several times (like aspartame, and flax seed oil), but have never been explained in depth. He does that for you. He explains his reasonings in depth usually with much scientific research to back it up.
I want to address the reviewer who had a problem with his warning on Aspartame, and the pilot issue. His section on Aspartame was very conprehensive, and the pilot story was only 1 brief mention. It was definitely not even a fraction of his justification for condemning the chemical. I read these reviews before I bought the book, and when I came to that section, I kept waiting to hear about the pilot story, and how it may have been blown out of proportion. It wasn't. It was merely an example he gave, that you could take or leave. It certainly wasn't part of his research to which he gave much more weight. I have been hearing the aspartame mantra, but never knew why. I've never been able to eat aspartame in hot foods (coffe, tea, hot cereals), and wondered why I thought it tasted so bad in them. He explains why, and now I'll never eat that stuff again. Plus he goes into the politics of how it was approved and the questionable-ness of that process. His research on that part should give ppl pause to be drinking diet soda.
I thought the entire book was good, and will be using it for reference!
Good General Health Guidance With Reservations.......2005-03-06
"Maximum Energy" is a good book in a number of ways although it does have a few shortcomings. The book makes some good general suggestions about diet and nutritional supplements, but I recommend that everyone discuss the implementation of these steps with their personal physician, as I did in the cases where I made changes, before implementing them. His advice is generally grounded in common sense, although I confess I am unsure about the functioning of some of the nutritional supplements he recommends (again, your doctor can help you here).
One thing that caused me concern was his discussion of aspartame. Although I tend to believe that aspartame is not a health food (as I sit here typing and drinking my Diet Coke), I am concerned by a specific implication made on page 269 of the book. Broer makes the assertion that aspartame may have played a role in the crash of USAir Flight 427 in 1994 because the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) revealed the Captain discussing that he was drinking a diet beverage sweetened with aspartame ten minutes prior to the crash. His implication is that because he drank the aspartame he lost control of the aircraft and it crashed. He then goes on to say that FAA investigators confirmed that nothing was wrong with the aircraft. There are multiple problems with this. In the first case the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), not the FAA, investigates aviation accidents; secondly, the First Officer was flying the aircraft at the time of the accident; third, at the time the book was written the NTSB had reached no conclusions on the probable cause of the accident, but has since concluded that, in fact, the aircraft, a Boeing 737, was at fault (the aircraft had a malfunction of the rudder); and fourth, there is absolutely no evidence of any sort that either crewmember was not fully conscious and attempting to prevent the crash until the very end. In fact, the CVR revealed great evidence of higher cognitive processing and psychomotor skills during the last seconds of flight from both crewmembers. As an airline pilot with several years experience in the 737, I find Broer's implications to be totally baseless. My concern is that in this one area of the subject matter that I know much better than Broer, the author plays rather loose with the evidence to make his point. This may be intentional or unintentional, I have no way of knowing, but it does make me wonder where else in the book data contradictory to his position has been intentionally or unintentionally overlooked to make a point.
Like I said, the book is largely a good resource with a lot of good and practical dietary and lifestyle information. I would have given it four stars except for the nagging issues raised by the aspartame section. I recommend this book with reservations. I would verify any major dietary, lifestyle, or supplement changes with my doctor before blindly following all the advice in this book.
Maximum Energy.......2004-04-25
The book is excellent and the service from Amazon and Lee Ristow was also excellent. I recommend this book as a teaching aid and also as a study guide for nutrition and health. Keep up the good work. (Lee, your the greatest)

Quick Read.......2007-07-07
This book is quick and easy to read. The author points out his phone number throughout the book when it would have been easier to list an information page on himself. He does list all his notes in the end for further reference. Overall really good book for anyone that is interested in their health.
Good Buy .......2007-06-18
I saw the author on the Rod Parsely TV program. He seemed very knowledgeable about a topic that is very interesting to me. I was unwilling to buy his set of CDs for $89, so I tried this book first. It is a very good buy. The advice is very solid. For myself, I would have liked a more thorough resume of the author, stating which Universities he attended, what degrees he holds, in which fields those degrees are, and what he is currently doing professionally (and has done), but that deficiency is not enough for me to lower my rating. I highly recommend the book. It's solid advice on a very important topic.
Change your LIFE!! .......2007-05-28
I read this book 6 years ago in one sitting at the book store. Since that day I cut PORK and SHELLFISH out of my diet. Let the TRUTH be told I have not had a cold since. PORK is a BIOTOXIN... a human poison. Why do Americans have more CANCERS than any other country? Why do we have so many morbidly obese people in our country?
Do you want to change your life and help others? BUY THIS BOOK... or go read it like I did.. feel free to email me with other health questions

I'm so hyped up!.......2007-02-19
This book is terrific. Broer is a great motivational speaker and more importantly, he knows what he's talking about. I had seen him on T.V. initially and have read numerous books on nutrition. The way he explains the medical terms and functions of our bodies makes it easy for the average reader to understand. I've given this book to many people I know and everyone loves it.
Quick arrival; content good; great shape!.......2007-01-09
Appreciate this book; still haven't read all of it because so busy but plan to read it shortly. Dr. Broer is to the point and feels very strongly about our health.

Dreadful, Should be a one page book.......2005-01-26
Far and away the most tedious and tiresome book I have read in a long time. The author writes in a style popular at the turn of the century. Unfortunately, the century was 1800s. Dry, overly complicated, and filled with word selections such as "whilest" and "Effortful"; using those terms and language as the Alexander himself did, in the early 1900's. It is one thing to honor the originator, it is another to make the text convoluted and unreadable in an attempt to be "faithful" to the technique.
As a "how to" book, this one fails miserably. The best that can be said for it is that it is a mediocre "how not to" book; the author spends much more time telling you the wrong way things are done rather than the correct way to do them. The photos in the text that show the wrong way, far outnumber the photos showing the correct way to do things. Photos showing proper technique are poor at best.
As an example, the author elected to use a photo of a toddler walking as an example of good posture. Since no toddlers are reading this book and they are substantially physiologically different from adults, I doubt that was the best example to give. Showing an adult in a good example of the technique would have been much better and more illiminating. In the few photos where adults are used to demonstrate the correct posture, the effect is somewhat unattractive.
While I have no doubt the concept behind "The Alexander Technique" is a good one, and it has many health benefits, the actual technique and the teaching of it can only be described as overly complicated. Designed to confuse the reader into thinking there is more to it than there really is. Some of the things promoted in the text such as: "Experts" in the technique,
"Qualified Teachers", "slow step by step process that you could never hope to achieve on your own...". are just there to try and shroud the technique in a false mystery. Marketing plain and simple.
If the author elected to use language designed to clearly educate, illuminate and instruct, this book might have been a worthwhile addition. He didn't and therefore, it isn't.
Let me save you the cost, and the time required to wade through this gobbledie gook.
1. Keep you head balenced on top of your spine
2. Relax your neck to help direct and condition the balence of the head.
3. Stand up straight without forcing yourself into the position.
4. When you can stand and sit straight, comfortably, with your entire body in a relaxed state, you've got it nailed.
That's it. Now go look for a book to buy with more to offer.
A solid introduction to the Alexander Technique........1999-08-15
I've read a dozen or so books about the Technique over the past dozen years. I became interested in the ideas behind the Technique after having had lessons with 2 very different Alexander Techers. Both teachers helped me a great deal with a chronic back pain problem I'd had since my twenties (I'm 67 now.) My first teacher was very non-verbal, but his hands-on-guidance was very clear and was able to change my posture quite a bit. My second teacher was far more verbal, and also had very good direction in her hands. She encouraged me to do some reading, starting with "Fitness Without Stress"(my favorite) and then "Body Learning" and most recently the Authorized summaries of Alexander's own four books(most of these you can get from Amazon - but the authorized summaries you have to get by mail from an Alexander Technique Professional Society - you can find out more at the Alexander Technique Bookstore at alexandertechnique.com/books)My sense is that Gray's book is not as clear as the other books's on the Technique I've read, although it does cover the basics.
I've tried the others-this IS the best one not written by FM.......1998-05-14
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I am a violinist with the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Technique itself is an **invaluable** element of my life and work---and I would say this book is the best Alexander book not written by FM Alexander himself (it's also much easier to read than FM's brilliant but *very* Victorian prose). This would be my Desert Island Alexander book!

Response to other review.......2004-12-29
The cookbook alone is only $22.99 as listed on their website at www.healthmasters.com. It is very unfair to give this book a rating of 1 star based on a lack of understanding of the product.
They do offer a complete series of cassettes or CDs with the cookbook for $99.99 Tapes or $119.99 CD's, which is reasonable.
All of the Broer products are very beneficial to developing good health.
Unbelievable!.......2004-08-20
What is Mrs. Broer thinking? You want to help people, then make a book that people can afford...Who do you think you are charging $192. for a cookbook!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable!

HQ-Heart Intelligence.......2000-04-10
This book is an excellent introduction to the work of IHM, Institute of HeartMath, led by Doc Lew Childre, with key contributions from Deborah Rozman, Rollin McCraty, Sara Hatch Paddison, and Howard Martin. They have researched and tapped into a central resource, the "heart intelligence" or HQ used in the Chinese translation of The HeartMath Solution. The "heart" is not merely the symbolic seat of wisdom and feelings, common in many cultures, such as the Chinese and Hebrew, but an actual organ of intelligence. The author made useful distinctions between Care and Overcare, Lower and Higher Heart Feelings and proposed Cut-Thru techniques that teach people how "to cut thru the gordian knot" of emotional stress. Caring for yourself and balanced care for others release good hormones, raises anti-aging DHEA, while overcare induces stress and increases cortisol. Lower heart feelings are sentiment, attachment, expectation and sympathy. Higher heart feelings are genuine love, care, appreciation, compassion, patience, humor, courage, forgiveness, security and kindness. The heart is more than just a mechanical pump. Like the brain, it influences information-processing capabilities. The heart has its own electromagnetic fields and it informs the brain and directly affect perception, reaction speeds, and decision-making ability. "Cut-Thru practice allows heart, emotions, brain, and mind to entrain and become coherent, giving you the coherent power needed to access this dimension of your own intuitive intelligence." Anxiety and stress induce incoherent heart frequencies. The whole concept of COHERENCE is a fascinating focus for further studies. Here we not only have innovative theories based on research, corroborated by recent writings like, Molecules of Emotion, Second Brain, but also a whole series of techniques to develop such resources. If it doesn't get over-commercialized and deteriorate into a passing fad, Heart Intelligence will greatly benefit humankind. Cut-Thru is very easy to read and follow. However, if you just want to read one book on the work of IHM, The HeartMath Solution may be a more comprehensive and updated choice, with other extremely useful techniques, such as Freeze-Frame and Heart Lock-In.
