overall I am very happy with my purchase. The book arrived in good condition and in a timely manner.
Make easy Medicine.......2005-09-07
This book is really a great book. It makes figuring out and understanding medical terms a breeze. The exercises are incredibly easy because they are using the rote method. I think the author is using the rote method because it's pretty effective. The terms are clearly explained. The book is easy to follow and the CD that comes with it also uses rote. It might seem mindless, but after doing the 1st few chapters, I was able to read my A&P books without any problem (I have never taken A&P class yet). So if you need to understand and parse medical terms in a hurry, this is the book for you. It's well worth the price.
Much better than I expected!.......2004-09-17
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of this book! I happened to purchase the 6th edition, and I'm glad I did. The first thing that caught my eye was the impressive layout. Next, I was impressed with the colors and awesome diagrams! The book also comes with a CD-ROM program (which includes images and video clips) that is truly helpful in testing and evaluating what you've learned using a variety of stimulating methods. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is studying in the medical field or who is just interested in learning "The Language of Medicine." Kudos to Davi-Ellen Chabner and all involved in creating this awesome edition!
The best in medical terminology............2004-05-19
This book is the best one I've seen on medical terminology. There are numerous charts and pictures to further enhance the learning process, as well as many workbook-type exercises to test your knowledge. By the time you finish a chapter, you REALLY understand the information covered. I'm so glad to have the opportunity to study from this book.
Key to success!.......2004-05-14
The systematic approach to understanding medical terminology is a key to success as a transcriptionist. Thanks in part to the beautiful way this textbook lays out a method of grasping the concepts involved in this subject, I am now one of the top 10 producers at our company of about 150 MTs. This book was a great investment.

There is a lot of valuable information in the book and on the CD. Everything is presented with clarity. It is a great resource for your own personal dental library.
Comprehensive Preparation Guide for Dental Terminology.......2000-06-19
This book is an excellent guide for the dental field. It is very well organized and concise, yet very informative. It is very easy to reference topics and the language is very clear. The spectrum of topics is vast, but not overwhelming. It covers subjects that are currently used in the dental office. It gives the reader clear information on topics such as material and techniques, management, procedures, and basic functions needed for the student and practicing dental professional. The diskette containing the review questions and exercises is very comprehensive and challenging. This is truly a great book for anyone in the denatl field!

Medical Terminology.......2007-01-05
This book is concise and to the point. It came well packaged and it came on time.
Don't waste your money.......2006-04-10
I am taking a medical terminology class at the vo-tech school in my area. The entire class and the instructor are very disappointed in this book because it is full of errors. For people who are new to medical terminology and have no medical backgrounds this book is very confusing at times and I wonder if I am really learning the correct terms. The instructor has already said that she is going to buy new books for her next class.
Rudimentary, riddled with errors.......2005-09-20
I went through this book page by page as part of a medical transcription course. Having somewhat of a medical background, I found this book to be very rudimentary. I was hoping to get a more thorough and detailed knowledge of medical terminology. In the chapter relating to my particular field, there were words that I suppose you could use, based on the root words and prefixes/suffixes, but were just ridiculous...never actually used in the field. This book is also riddled with errors, particularly in the review exercises. It looks to me as though no one edited this book. I am disappointed that I spent so much money for such shoddy work. I gave it two stars instead of one because the "programmed learning" format seems to work well.

Slow to deliver.......2007-03-24
I ordered this product on Feb 8,07 and it is not March 24th 07 and I still don't have it with delivery not anytime soon. I had the chance to cancel but have waited this long and they have my money so I will wait a little longer..It is a good thing that I only want this book for home study class and not a real dire situation...This is the first time that I had to wait this long for something I ordered and that is a good thing, I'm not to tainted against buying through Amazon.
great !!!!.......2006-12-28
The best thing about this dictionary, apart from its clear definitions, is the wealth of drawings - not only of anatomical parts but also of many physiological and biochemical processes. I love browsing through the dictionary and looking at the drawings - more terms stay in mind when you see their pictorial representations.
Medical Information for semi-dummies.......2001-08-09
Have been buying this book for friends & relatives for years. After 25 yrs in the medical field, I can recommend it as a quick & useful reference "Get out the little red book" is a rallying cry in my circle.
Great household reference.......2001-02-09
Definitely for non-medical persons, this is a great book to have around the house when your friends/parents/kids call with their latest ailment. It gives concise, easy-to understand definitions, entries are easy to find, and it's remarkably comprehensive for the price and size. On the other hand, if you are a student in a health-related field, it doesn't cover all the root definitions. Go for the Taber's if that's what you need.

Fantastic way to learn medical terminology.......2007-09-21
I bought this book because I am taking a medical terminology course online. I really like the way this book is laid out, how it teaches. You learn the roots and suffixes and prefixes of the words - not just the word itself. This way you can look at almost any word and figure out what it means because you know what each part of the word means. I would recommend this book, but you might want to build up your wrists first - my wrist is sore from lugging this HUGE book around - but it is worth it!
VERY GOOD BOOK!!!!!.......2007-02-11
This book is very interesting and captures your attention to the point that it makes it interesting to memorize medical terms.
Ths is a helpful study guide and resource.......2007-02-06

Lippincott Medical Terms and Abbreviations.......2003-08-30
I bought this book because I have no medical training or background and am currently taking an on-line medical transcription program that I have many more questions that the programs offers materials on. I was looking basically for a medical terms "for dummies" and a book that with a lot of medical abbreviations. The course tells me to make my own list and as I don't have a lot of time, I figured I would be better off buying a book. If this is what you are looking for, this book is not for you! It offers some basic terminology and I found nine out of ten times, I couldn't find what I was looking for and resorted back to Dorland's Medical Dictionary.
The one thing and only reason I would recommend this book, is at the back of the book are Roots, prefixes, and suffixes and their meaning in an alpha sort. It would be nice if they would have told the reader which category the word falls under, but I have that down pretty good now.
Really helpful clinical guide.......2003-06-24
The pocket size and light weight make this a great addition for reference while at your nursing clinicals. Contains synopses of disease process, typical tests for diagnosis, and basic nursing assessments and interventions. I am doing a clinical nursing internship this summer and needed something compact for my briefcase, yet containing good info to refresh me on the diseases and illnesses I was encountering in my patients. This book fills the bill. My prof loved it too. The spiral binding is nice rather than a glued binding, but needs a bit of redesign as the back cover falls off. I just sewed up the openings with some fishing line to solve that problem. Highly recommended addition to your working library.

Excellent, but buy the updated version.......2006-08-25
I used this reference so much that my copy eventually fell apart. It's clear, concise, and authoritative. But it's very outdated. A newer version came out in 2003, which I was happy to order.
newer edition has slightly different name.......2006-06-01
The newer (2003) ediion is called "American Medical Association Complete Medical Encyclopedia".
This Book is Too Old.......2002-12-17
I didn't realize that this book has not been updated since its copyright--1989. The date of information probably is 1988 or earlier. While this book is clear and well-organized, anything that's 14 years old has little credibility with me. I feel that I made a mistake in getting it.
