Book Description
With the divorce rate spiking at a dizzying 60 percent, it’s safe to assume that young couples and experienced partners alike may lack the skills and understanding necessary to sustain a committed relationship. Psychotherapists Linda and Charlie Bloom present 101 techniques delivering practical guidance and make it clear that, regardless of past experience, anyone can develop the basic strengths, skills, and capacities needed for a great relationship. Each lesson is presented as a simple, one-line thought followed by an explanation using real life examples — from the authors' own experiences in sustaining their marriage of 31 years to those of the thousands of couples they've professionally counseled or who have taken the Blooms' life relationship seminars. This book demonstrates how anyone can find ways out of a painful relationship, and how couples can enrich their own relationships through working through love's challenges.

A Must Read Book Before Getting Married.......2007-09-30
Don't let the title fool you. This book is great for anyone who is in a relationship.
really renews my belief in love.......2007-02-05
this book is amazing. i stumbled upon it in the bookstore and it was the last copy on display. i picked it up and thumbed through it and i was hooked. i'd never heard of the authors and this book. unfortunately i think we give a lot of credit to authors who get on major television shows and some authors that have good stuff to say don't ever get the credit they deserve....
back to the book...it's a great book the chapters are short and sweet (but not too short) and as other reviewers have mentioned the couple has lots of experience as therapists and a real married couple. i plan to suggest to my boyfriend that we read a couple of chapters an evening and discuss them. i really like the concepts in the book and think if you're in a serious relationship leading to marriage you owe it to yourself to get this. i suspect if you're already married you can still benefit too!
very good book.......2006-11-18
this is a must have book, whether or not you're married or even after! My husband and i highlighted sections that meant something to us and discussed them. really helped us over a hump! Highly recommend and it's an easy read.
A must have for those just married or about to get married!.......2006-03-13
Background:
I am getting married in about 10 weeks. My fiancé and I have recently had to deal with several issues that have surfaced. We are both very open, well educated and understanding, but all of a sudden we had trouble communicating well regarding several topics. We both come from parents who are remarried, and the overall divorce rate is very high in our family which scares us both. Furthermore, my mother's second marriage is one of those wonderful relationships that are written about in children's fairytales, and lately I have felt pressured that my relationship must to compare to hers.
Review:
If you are married, thinking about getting married, or recently married, you owe it to yourself read this book! If you aren't hooked on the book by the end of the table of contents I would be shocked!
I found this book at a local bookstore while browsing through the relationship section and it is GREAT! The book is basically a compilation of mostly lighthearted tips and pointers drawn from real life experience which would take a newly married couple many years to figure out. The book tackles many subjects, which after reading seem so simple and straight forward that I would have felt silly had I not understood them; however the truth is, I had never thought about these subjects, let alone how to deal with them.
After about three hours I am half way through the book and really feel like I am learning lessons that take others years of marriage to learn. The book has also helped my confide in, and understand the many benefits of a long enduring relationship that I had not thought about. Many of the books' subjects also revolve around the controversies and hurtles that a long term relationship will eventually face. The wonderful wisdom that Charlie and Linda Bloom present, is not how to try and avoid these rather unavoidable circumstances, but instead how to use these difficult times to help your marriage grow and become stronger than it would be had these situations not occurred. This is a great feeling, especially for men whose married and single friends often say very derogatory things regarding relationships in general.
Worth reading.......2006-02-02
For newlyweds or those married for a number of years, this book has many gems of wisdom to offer. My husband and I have been married for 28 years and read the book together and found it refreshing and helpful in some areas where we recognized chronic tension in our relationship. The authors' overall assessments of a variety of relationships and wisdom for handling various issues that arise between committed couples is on target. It is worth reading and would make a good gift for weddings (or anniversaries!)

Benjamin Franklin once said, "In this world, nothing is certain but death and taxes. At least now, thanks to the internet, death doesn't have to be as expensive.
According to AARP, the average funeral in the United States can easily reach $10,000 once a burial plot, flowers and other costs are included.
Educated consumers are no longer in the dark about how the funeral industry works. Big conglomerates are mercilessly buying up family-operated homes with their eyes solely on the bottom-line. Caskets alone average a 600% mark up. They may be the last example of a legal monopoly left in the United States. Mourners are literally gauged, as they haven't the time or presence of mind to comparison shop.
It has always been tradition to call upon the neighborhood funeral parlor, cemetery or monument dealer when a loved-one passes. But, due to the internet, that traditional is starting to change.
MonumentsInStone is the sister company of Interstate Granite, a family-owned, monument manufacturer that has been in business in the Atlanta area since 1916. They have recently launched a website, offering granite headstones, bronze markers and crematory products at a fraction of their retail price. "We have been there." Say the owner, Robert Womac. "And, we want to right an industry-wide wrong."
MonumentsInStone supplies headstones and memorials directly to the consumer. Although cemeteries might not like this, they have to, by law, accept a stone from an outside source. The savings have been a blessing for many customers.
The Funeral Consumers Alliance has many tips that should be followed when planning a funeral. They told us that savvy consumers need to shop around for a grave marker or monument. The Better Business Bureau also warns to resist high-priced sales pitches from funeral industry vendors. They should treat you with compassion; not pressure you.
Perhaps, asking a friend or neighbor to work the phones or search the net would be a good idea. Even a check on Ebay has produced a number of beautiful choices. I found an elegant, Granite Companion Monument for a third of the price my funeral parlor was pitching. A Tombstone on Ebay? I emailed the highest bidder to find out why. "I'm sorry," He told me. " I see no reason to pay top dollar because of some outdated
Last Wishes Book Is Very Helpful.......2001-01-31
I purchased a copy of this book for my elderly mother who has been talking about planning ahead for her own funeral. This book is loaded with information about funerals and funeral homes, many things that we were unfamiliar with. In particular, she liked the detailed appendix with all those biblical phrases and the facts about different flowers. I liked the forms in the back of the book that helped her to become organized and share information with me, that I never would have known about. An excellent resource for anybody who wants to preplan a funeral themselves.
Last Wishes.......2000-11-21
Found this book to be not only educational but also in a format easily understood. I purchased several copies for my family and friends.

Customer Reviews:
Not the best book you'll find for teenagers.......2005-12-28
If you are looking for a good, tear-jerking story that makes you care about the characters, you will need to look elsewhere. "She Died Too Young" features perfect characters that are miserable because they all need organ transplants to live. Both reach a critical stage, and surprise! there's only one set of organs! So one of the two has to die. And of course, there are a couple of flawless, gorgeous guys waiting around for the girls. Please don't waste your time or money on this book--save a tree.
Death of Young Girl.......2004-12-16
This Book is called She Died Too Young. It was written by Lurlene McDaniel. This girl named Chelsea James needs a heart transplant. She goes to stay with her friend Katie's house waiting for the news for the donor. Chelsea and Katie met at a place called Jenny House and they spent a wonderful sommer together. Chelsea goes to a place where they talk about the way they feel. Chelsea made a new friend named Jillian. She was really nice. Jillian invited her to her house. She and Katie was picked up in a limo to go to her house and they thought that was pretty cool. This is a fantastic book and it made me think that I need to be thankful for what I have because I could end up like her someday. I think that the theme is most represented in this book because you learn a lesson a bout life when you put yourself in Chelsea's shoes and you find out that you may not have a chance to survive. You need to know that life isn't always fair. If you like Relistic Fiction books than I recommend this book for you to read. I gave this book five stars because this book will touch your heart in certain ways.
A great read!.......2004-12-14
I first read this book in 1994 when I was 10 years old. I got it from the book fair and was fascinated by all things medical. It ended up touching me so much and I continue to read Lurlene Mcdaniel books at 21. I re-read "She died too young" this summer and it can still make me cry. The friendship of Jillian and Chelsea is something we all need. I very much recommend this book..It'll really make you appreciate your own friends.
One of Lurlene's greatest!.......2002-06-05
By reading some of the other reviews for this book, I realize that many of them are negative. They imediatly turn you off from the book. I sopose there are some people who do not like them, but please read the book for yourself and then decide. Do not let the negative reviews influence you. The books are inspiring, touching, and simply amazing.
This praticular book is about two friends fighting for their lives because of failing hearts. When both are called into the hospital, only one will be choosen to recieve the heart that is being donated. Booth friends want the heart to be given to eachother, but it will only be given to one, and the other will die.
I have read almost all her other books, and I have never gotten bored, or thought the plot was the same, or the book was predictable. Please try her books before you decide you don't like them, and don't let negative reviews influence you're desision. You'll find her books are truly amazing.
Fabulous.......2001-12-03
Another addition to the story of friends Lacey, Chelsea, Amanda, Jillian and Katie, its a must-read. Chelsea is on the beeper for a heart transplant, and staying with Katie's family. Katie's success with a heart transplant gives Chelsea hope, but after living with a heart disease her entire life, Chelsea is getting sicker each day. At a class for hopeful tranplant receipiants, Chelsea meets Jillian, a sassy, up-beat red-head with a Texan twang and a rich father. Jillian is not only in need of a heart, but a 'pair of lungs.' Jillian and Chelsea can relate, and become instant friends. But one night both girls' beepers go... but there's only one heart, and two lungs. Do the doctors save three people, or one?

Customer Reviews:
A MUST READ Lurlene McDaniel book!.......2005-08-22
A long time ago i read this book and it was the first LM book I ever read. I loved it!!! Lurlene McDaniel is my fave author and I'm pretty sure I've read all her books. What can I say?:Im a HUGE fan! her novels relate to real-life stories, so they are very sad but they make you wish you could help people who are suffering from diseases or a crisis like the characters in LM's books.
I knew that LM's books would take over me. cuz once i read this book, all 3 of the novels, my eyes got damp and thats when i knew. a book had never made me cry like that before. not ever
Best Book I ever Read.......2002-08-22
This is one of the best books that I have ever read, i was so into it, I finsihed the first story in less than 3 hours. It also helps with problems , the first story talks about cancer, and one of my loved ones is dealing with cancer, and it made me feel better afer I read it, these are very inspirational stories, and will show you that there is more to life than the little things.
Great Stories!.......2002-07-16
These stories truly went straight to my heart...every single one of them! Mainly because I could relate to all of them. In the first story, Sarah had leukemia and I once had a very good friend that went through all the same ordeals as Sarah. The second story I think I can relate to also because a couple of months back, I too was a candy striper at my local hospital because I had to get service hours for my church in order to be Confirmed, and just like Megan, I too went to the hospital everyday at first just wanting to get my hours done and go home, but after awhile, some of the patients that you visit with and get to know everyday have a very huge impact on you and your life sort of starts to revolve around them because you're constantly worrying about their health but, there's nothing you can do except listen to them talk everyday and try to cheer them up the best that you can. Then finally in the third story about Anne, I can also relate because just recently my distant cousin, whom I was very close with, passed away on account of HIV and the AIDS virus and I know the struggle she went through everyday because I was with her most days. Her and my friend, with leukemia, were also part of the reason I stuck with my candy striping job at the hospital because, like Megan put it, it gives you a great feeling of joy knowing that somehow you made a difference in someone's life and even though I'm only a sophmore in high school, I am already starting to make plans to someday attend Medical School and become a doctor so that I can keep making a difference in people's lives. So, thank you Lurlene for writing these beautiful and truly heart-warming stories that I would recommend to anyone and everyone!
Great Emotional Impact, even for an older person........2002-03-13
I just finished reading all three stories in this book, and I must say, Lurlene McDaniel still has the ability to create amazing and emotional stories for her readers. I have been a Lurlene McDaniel fan for many years, and it all began when I read "Six Months To Live". Her stories really bring to life the struggles that so many young people go through. All three of these stories had a major impact on me, but I think the greatest impact was brought on by "Sixteen and Dying". It's hard to explain why, exactly, but it did. At any rate, I think that any fan of Ms. McDaniel's, be they old, new, or never read any of her books before, should read these three stories.
One Last Wish.......2002-03-06
How will you feel if someone tells you that you only have six more months to live? What will you do if you discover that you are diagnosed with Leukemia? And how will you help a boy who has tons of wishes to fulfill in his life, but is dying because he needs an urgent liver transplant? In this novel, the author Lurlene McDaniel writes three touching and heart-warming stories all about teenagers diagnosed with life-threatening diseases. The first story, Mother Help Me live, describes an adopted child, Sara, suffering from Leukemia. In order for her to survive, she must find her birth mother. Readers read a long stream of struggling from Sara¡¦s disbelief in her adoption, up to the end when a shocking fact about her birth mother is revealed. The importance of love and family is showed¡Xfamily members will always love each other no matter if they are blood related or not. I am really touched by the story because I can almost feel how Sara is hurting mentally and physically, and how hopeless but optimistic her family is. In the other story, Sixteen and Dying, Ann discovers that she is infected with HIV. She has the opportunity to go to a ranch and spend her last wonderful times there, and she meets someone who changes her life. We can see step by step how angry and confused she feels when she knows she has HIV, and when she finally understands to accept what she can¡¦t change, face the reality, and live as happy as she can. These stories are all based on a person known as JWC generously donating checks to these ill teenagers, letting them use the money to accomplish what they want before they die. These novels have made me cry, and every time I start reading, I need a box of tissue beside me. Before, I always whined about how my life was horrible with all the homework and pressure from schoolwork. But after reading Lurlene McDaniels¡¦ stories and seeing how teenagers my age are suffering from much more than I am, I finally started to appreciate what I had, stopped complaining, and always thought on the bright side.

Along with some of her friend from the former years she has attened The Jenny House. Last year The Jenny House was burned dwom due to a fire. Katie was excited to know it was being rebuilt. Katie's ex-boyfreind, Josh Martel also is going to be a counselor. Being around Josh brings back so many memories and emothions that Katie just can't handle.
This book revels flashback and realistic detail. Some of the flashbacks that are mentioned are of when Katie was in the hospital and when her and Josh was still together. The realistic detail is amazing. For example, when Eric and Meg go for a canoe ride together the author gives details on everyhting surrounding then and what they do exactly. Also, the author uses a lot of humor in the book. Such as whe nthey have a tug-a-war challenge and the girls lose. They get pulled into a mudd puddle and Lacey says, " I've always wandered what i'd look like as a brunette.
This book is a really good book to read. When I started reading this book I didn't want to put it down. It shows realationships and friendships. If I had'nt read this book and someone had just told me about it I would read it in a heartbeat. That says a lot because i'm not one to read that much. So therefore, this book is a great book for romance and tradgey.
Best book ever!.......2006-09-06
I really loved thsi book. Especially how all the characters from the other stories get together. The scenes with Josh and Katie were heart-breaking and wonderful at the same time. And if you want to know what ahppens between Katie and Josh once the summer's over, you gotta read this book!
WoW.....greatest book!.......2004-04-21
Ok.....i have read all of the One Last Wish books and this one by far is the greatest!! Katie and Josh's ending was fantastic...i think Lurlene McDaniel should write more of the OLW books about Katie and Josh's future together...and Lacey and Jeff and Meg and Morgan. The book does leave you at a loss with what happend to Meg and Morgan, Jeff and Lacey, Eric, and Chelsea..it would be great to find out what happens to eveyone. I loved all of the other OLW books too! I couldn't put any of these books down they were great. And Lurlene McDaniel should defiantly write more books about OLW and Jenny House!!!
Reach for Another Day.......2004-01-30
I really like romance novels. The way Lurlene McDaniel explains the character's emotions is unbeliveable! My favorite book by Lurene McDaniel is "Reach for Tomorrow," the second in this McDaniel series. It is about a girl named Katie and she goes to a camp where sick kids go to have fun. Katie meets up with a bunch of friends including her ex-boyfriend,Josh. When they saw eachother, they freaked out. Then she found out that he has been in an accadent and they didn't know if he was going to live. She and all the campers are all worried. She goes down to the chapel and prays for him. A couple of weeks later they got married in the chapel. Katie's favorite camper,Sara, was supposed to be in the wedding but....If you want to know what happens, read "Reach for Tomarrow." I really like the book "Telling Christina Goodbye," also by Lurlene McDaniel.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2002-08-15
in my opinion, Reach For Tomorrow is Lurlene McDaniel's best book.It was great how she put in Eric, Megan, Sarah, and Morgan from the other one last wish books. The only OWL character missing was Dani from Mourning Song. I hope Lurlene writes a sequel that describes what happens to Josh and katie now that they're married, if meg and morgan stay together, and what happens to the other characters. YOU GOTTA READ ABOUT THIS FABULOUS JENNY HOUSE REUNION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One Last Wish.......2006-09-29
Lurlene Mcdaniel has written an extremely wounderful book called "One Last Wish". Themes of discovering the tragic story behind a struggle for survival against impossible odds. The novel is written in first person narrative style by a character named Jenny Crawford. Who is Jenny Crawford? A 16 year old girl who struggles for survival and understands the love and friendships that develop into a legacy of giving. Falling deeply in love, Jenny dosen't really tell Richard Holloway the way she really feels about hime. Closer do they become after finding out that Jenny's life is completly destroyed with leukemia. Though towards the end of the story Jenny learned that suffering does not respect people and who they are. Knowing that she only had little time to live,Jenny made her grandmother promise to make sure she made out her will. She wanted to leave something meaningful behind. A special trust fund of one hundred thousand dollars, for other sick teenagers. Which she called it her "One Last Wish". As I read the story it made me feel all the pain Jenny had to go through, and even though she had leukemia Richard didn't care, and admired her with all his heart. Besides all the extreme characters,I really enjoyed reading this novel by Lurlene Mcdaniel. The imagery in this story gives you an exact picture in your mind, anthor good reason why I enjoyed reading this story. The story could have been better if the author would of let us know what Richard Holloway ended up doing in his life. After reading the pain Jenny had struggled with it was disapointing to read that she passed away. Reading this story makes you realize whats good in life, and the things you should appriciate. The narrator draws you into the world of Jenny Crawford, which is what a good novel is all about.

Customer Reviews:
"A Season For Goodbye proves to be worth it more than any other McDaniel novels".......2006-05-18
A Season for Goodbye by Lurlene McDaniel gets the readers attention in every way possible. It has comedy, suspense which keeps the readers hooked to keep on reading and finding out what is going to happen next, a few conflicts that get resolved eventually and a bit of tragedy that brings tears to its reader's eyes. This novel revolves around three young women, Katie, Lacey and Chelsea. There is one thing that holds all three of the characters together and that is the Jenny House. The Jenny House is a house for people with cancer and they all get together over the summer to enjoy every bit of time they have left. The three girls get together this summer for the last time before heading off their own directions. All three have conflicts going on in their lives which they in the end resolve.
Katie must decide between, whether to take the scholarship that is offered to her far away from home or try to work things out an old flame of hers. Chelsea on the other hand must trounce over her feelings of falling in love. The last main character, Lacey, having the most difficult decision of all must convince Jeff, her boyfriend that her feelings towards him can be trusted and she does love him with all his heart. It becomes hard for her to convince the Jeff since they get into arguments constantly and end up blowing up at each other.
What also makes this novel so different from other novels is that it contains inspiring elements that holds people together. Dullas, one of the Jenny House residents who have serious attitude issues often gets in arguments with Katie. Katie has to deal with her attitude since they both live in the same room. Katie never gives up and always tries to convince Dullas and make her understand. "Into every little life, a little rain must fall". This quote gives Katie her most inspiration. As McDaniel's novels revolve around life lessons, yet again she does a good job introducing a new life lesson that people should not give up so easily. Everyone must make an effort to reach somewhere. Many conflicts arise when Lacey and Jeff try to work things out. The novel is mostly based around Lacey's life and Katie, but not so much on Chelsea's. She is seen more of a care taker of the other two girls and the rest of the Jenny House residents.
Lacey and Jeff eventually resolve their arguments when an accident takes place with Jeff. She pours her heart to Jeff and he finally believes the feelings Lacey has for him are worth trusting.
But things don't go their way for too long when a tragedy strikes the Jenny House. It seems like all along that everything is okay and all the girls are going to be okay with their lives and their boyfriends but just when they think things are going fine, something goes wrong. In such a situation they learn to stick with each other and be there for each other when times of hardships come along. As much as we would think that their friendship might be affected by this Jenny House tragedy, the girls try their best to stick together and fight every difficult situation head on. It might seem like they all have their separate ways but in the end they all follow the same path together.
"I know you're grateful to me because I stuck by you when you were in the hospital. Which is more than any other girl has ever done when she sees me like this." This quote easily summarizes what the reader might be looking for. The novel is surrounded with numerous moral lessons.
A Season For Goodbye Book Review.......2006-03-09
A Season for Goodbye by Lurlene McDaniel is an eventful novel. It is about these three girls; Katie O'Roark, Chelsea James, and Lacey Duval, who decides to go and spend the summer at the Jenny House. The Jenny House is a house where kids who have cancer or had cancer can go and spend there time with others who are like them. They have fun and there are a lot of events that they can participate in. These three girls have been sick for the past years but now they are back. There is one quote that summarizes their struggles they have gone through in the past, "I know you're grateful to me because I stuck by you when you were in the hospital. Which is more than any other girl has ever done when she sees me like this."
This novel is not that long, it is 151 pages. It also isn't very difficult. It does keep you intrigued in the story just because you want to see what happens next. There are a lot of disasters that occur that keeps you turning the pages. I definitely recommend it. It is sad in parts but I think all of Lurlene McDaniel books are good.
Don't Buy Just for Jeff & Lacey.......2005-12-29
I am a huge fan of Lurlene McDaniel and the "One Last Wish" series. After reading "All The Days of Her Life" I HAD to find out what happened with Jeff and Lacey. They are definitely my favorite couple!!!! and I wanted so badly to see them and read more of their story.
So after months of anticipation, I finally bought "Season for Goodbye". The story is mostly about Katie, Chelsea and Lacey working through their problems.
Katie could not decide whether to take the scholarship she'd worked so long for, and to her surprise, Josh is a counselor at Jenny House so she didn't really get to work things out on her own.
Chelsea, is really doing nothing big, just still crushing on DJ, Jillian's brother, and trying to get back to normal life.
Lacey is handling a girl named Dullas, who has an attitude similar to Lacey's [but Lacey wasn't this bad!] last summer.
If you are like me, and just want to hear of Lacey and Jeff, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. Rent it from the library. There are 3 and only 3 Lacey/Jeff scenes: a big fight, a truce, and big reconciliation [which wasn't even that good] . I was disappointed with how little Lacey/Jeff there was, but this is still a good book!
couldn't it have focused more on lacey.............?????!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-11-28
I really liked hearing about Lacey and Jeff in "All the Days of Her Life". When I found out about this book, of course I had to read it find out what happened to Jeff and Lacey. To be honest, I was pretty dissapointed with this book.
The only other character I'd read about in this book besides Lacey was Katie, in "Someone Lives, Someone Dies". All I can say is woow, people change.
Lacey, Katie, and Chelsea are all meeting up at Jenny House for another amazing summer. This time Chelsea and Lacey will have campers to look after instead of being campers. Lacey gets a sweet little 12 year old girl with CF. Chelsea gets 2 girls. And Katie gets 3 girls with cancer. One of the girls, Dullus, is really frustrating. She doesn't want to participate, and talks back. Personally, Dullus was probably my favorite character. I loved how she started out not loving the counselors, and ended not loving them.
Chelsea's really nervous to learn that D.J.'s working in the stables, but knows that he must hate her, since she got the heart his sister needed. Meaning she survived while his sister died. I honestly found Chelsea to be a pointless character.
Next is Katie, who doesn't know whether to take the track scolarship to University of Arizona. She knows that Josh doesn't want her to go, and she's confused about what to do. She doesn't deserve to be with Josh. Josh loves her so much and wants to be with her, yet she gets all mad at him for not giving her enough "space". God Katie. Get a life.
Last is Lacey, who's doing ok. She keeps on trying to convinve Jeff that she really wants to be with him, but he's not convinced. Lacey gets frustrated at him and blows up at him. Then Jeff winds up in the hospital, and Lacey's really worried. Jeff's ok though.
To make up for a mostly bad book, there's a big scene in the end where Lacey and Jeff get back together. Sigh....true love.
If you do read the book, only read it for the story of Lacey and Jeff, and skip though the parts of the book about Katie and Chelsea.
Awww..........2003-02-01
This is a GREAT book, possibly one of the best I've read by Lurlene McDaniel. This was perhaps the first One Last Wish novel I've read by her, and my favorite. It's sweet, touching, romantic (though not as much as some of her other books) and of course, knowing Lurlene McDaniel's books, amazingly sad. Still all around great!

Book Description
Have you ever thought about who will be at your funeral? Who will read your eulogy, or what your obituary will say? How about who will take care of your precious mutt, Lester? Formatted like a journal and intermingled with tips from professionals and amusing anecdotes, MY LAST WISHES gives readers an opportunity to fill in all this information and more. It allows them not only to plan their "last party," but also to make the planning process less painful for their loved ones, who otherwise would've had to play a guessing game.
Author Joy Meredith takes a fresh approach to end–of–life planning by making the book a practical guide as well as an opportunity to examine and reflect on your own life with journal entries such as, "What is your biggest accomplishment?" and "What is your biggest regret?" What's more, the book also helps you to enhance your life RIGHT NOW with chapters like "Finish the Unfinished," for example, where readers are guided through the freeing process of making amends and letting go of conflict.
Playful, pragmatic, and lightly spiritual, MY LAST WISHES takes a sensitive subject and makes it charmingly accessible.

No person should be without this book!.......2007-05-15
What a treasure! Ms. Meredith has made a superb contribution with her book "My Last Wishes..." "My Last Wishes" is something everyone should read for themselves and everyone that loves them........2007-03-22
In the process of grieving for the sudden lost of a loved one, this book caught my eye and made me hopeful that the inevitable passing of future family and friends, and myself, may not be so difficult on the ones left behind.
The author somehow makes a simple read out of a taboo subject. Educational, sometimes witty, and straight to the point, this book covers everything you need to know about planning how you would like to be remembered and what you would like happen when your time is up. Good for the young and old alike. A great gift for those that you love.
Everyone should have this book!.......2007-03-16
We all know of stories where a loved one passes on and no one can speak to their wishes. Wouldn't it be easier to tell our loved ones what we would like? This book is the tool! It's an easy to fill out journal that covers a variety of areas including your life, how you envision your final service and how to plan ahead. Even though it's a heavy topic the book takes a serious but light look at important issues. Do your loved ones a favor and let them know your wishes using this book!
Must Have .... Must Read ....... Must Share !!.......2007-02-21
I am not one to go on and on about how things can and should be done. Everyone has their own way through life, but this book is a great way to take stock of where you are in life and how you would want your life and death to be remembered and handled by those who you are leaving behind.
Why did I buy my first copy? Several of my good friends have lost their parents and grandparents in the past 12 months, and were really left numb while they confronted the last days and moments without any ideas of what do to do or say. After seeing and reading through this book in a local bookstore, I ordered 10 copies to share with them and a few others that are facing similar situations now.
I am already getting positive feedback from a friend who lost his dad last summer, ("I wish I had this 9 months ago."). I know my other friends aren't ready for this, or may be reluctant to face it, but I know when I look at how an unplanned death is handled it can be brutal and unforgiving; I will not leave that burden with my wife, child or parent. (Think about the mess going on with Anna Nicole Smith, if you doubt how tragic it can be. What is her daughter going to know about her mother's wishes for her life? NOTHING!)
I would recommend getting a copy for you and your loved ones. Especially for those you don't want to make the tough decisions for. Like to be left on life support or not; cremated -vs- buried; what to do with their kids, belongings and memories; who or what was your greatest loves and memories?
Since taxes and death are inevitable, why not plan to make your loved one's memories good ones, not painful second guesses?
BTW, it is a very good read, so don't be afraid you are sending a "Death Wish" to your friends or coworkers. You are giving them a little bit of love and food for thought!

Book Description
When Katie O'Roark receives an invitation from the One Last Wish Foundation to spend the summer at Jenny House, she eagerly says yes. Katie is ever grateful to the anonymous "JWC," the person who gave her the gift that allowed her to receive a heart transplant. Now Katie is asked to help others who, like herself, are facing medical odds against them.
Being a "Big Sister" to Amanda, an eleven-year-old victim of leukemia; Chelsea, a thirteen-year-old candidate for a heart transplant; and Lacey, a fifeen-year-old diabetic who refuses to face her problems, is a challenge. As the summer progresses, the girls form a bond of friendship as they behave "just like healthy kids."
When a crisis occurs and one of the girls does not get to fulfill her dreams, the friends are devastated. The girls vow to gather each summer, so long as one of them is alive, in honor of their dreams and of a friendship strong enough to endure beyond this life.

a truly great book.......2005-11-16
Please Don't die, was the first of many books by Lurlene McDaniel that i have purchased and read. Not only is it entertaining it helped me to get over the death of my cousin, who died of Leukemia. the individual stories of all the girls jumps out and grabs you, whether you want it or not. If you want a book that you want to read and be affected this is it.
THIS WAS THE BEST BOOK EVER!!!.......2005-01-08
This was one of the best books I have ever read. I learned a lot from this book. It also taught me a lot of things. It taught me that nothing can ruin a girl and girl relationship (a friendship between two girls). I have learned that when a good friend comes along, don't lose them. Don't let anything get in the way of that relationship. I had to do this book for a book report and I would do it again. Although this is the only one of McDaniel's books I have read, I plan to read many more. She is an inspirational writter and I say that she is an inspiration to us all.
This is a great book!.......2004-04-07
Lurlene McDaniel writes motivating novels about teenagers facing life-altering situations. Please Don't Die a fictional novel that is part of the One Last Wish series. The novel is written in third person, with four main characters. The themes of the novel are never giving up and never lose your hope and faith. Life is going to get tuff but as long as you have supportive friends and family you'll make it. Life wasn't made to be easy and there is always going to be someone who has more than you and always someone who has less. Enjoy what you have you were made for a reason, and everything happens for a reason even if its unknown. The one last wish series deals with an unknown person gives a gift of money with no strings attached to help someone who might be dieing. This mysterious person gives away money for a sick person to have there dreams come true in there final time. The person donating the money known as JWC doesn't want any credit for it just to know that the person who is sick will get there last wish.I personally loved the book, as a cancer survivor it gives me a lot of insight, and shows me how lucky I really am to be alive. Also life is to short and I need to enjoy every minute of it. Life may not always be easy but the bumpy roads only make you stronger. I have read many other novels by Lurlene McDaniel and I've loved them all too.
The author puts these girls threw hardship, but it shows them they aren't the only ones who are sick. They feel as if they are left on the outside looking in ad the world goes on and there not part of it. When they see other people their age sick like them they feel normal and it becomes not so awkward to make friends. This book has made me want to volunteer at a cancer camp(...)
I would definitely recommend this book! I give it a ten out of ten!
This is a great book; one of McDaniels' best works........2003-09-13
As Katie O'Roark comes to the Jenny house as a "big sister" she becomes friends with roomates Chelsea and Amanda right away, But with Lacey it takes a while to create trust. The Jenny House is the one place they can act like "normal kids". Through the summer the girls deal with there sicknesses and overcome some of their insecurites. They learn true frienship gos beyond death in this tragic story.
A Great Book and A View Of Reality.......2002-12-08
This is a great book that I will probably never forget. I have been reading Lurlene McDaniel books for a few months now, and this is by far the best one yet. I have loved the One Last Wish Books, and I have been dying to know who JWC was.
Katie O'Roark gets invited to Jenny House, a summer camp for sick kids. She is big sister to Amanda, a very sweet thirteen year old with lukemia who tries to make light out of everything; Chelsea, a 14 year old girl with a heart condition who's parents are way too overprotecting; and Lacey, a 16 year old with diabetes who is such a snob and no one can stand her. These girls bond very closely, and by the end of the summer, they are inseparable. Then, something happens, and one of the girls gets sick and has to go to the hospital. She is unable to fulfill her dreams.
This is a heartwarming story about friendship, and I learned that life isn't as happy as everyone as it is for me, and everyone should take life for granted. I hope this was helpful to you!!

A Tear Jerker.......2006-05-18
This story has to be on of the best stories in the entire One Last Wish series. It shows the hardships that teens that have Cystic Fibrosis have to endure daily. Kara Fischer, a girl with C.F., shows what she goes through every day with this disease, and how it affects her every day life. She deals with the same things we deal with and more; and it shows how determined she is to have a normal life. When she falls in love with Eric, and he finds out about her C.F., I was surprised to see what he did. This book is a heart-wrenching story that brought a tear to my eye while reading it. It is an amazing book with a great truth behind it. Showing all of the things that happen to the people suffering from the disease, in using a child for the main character, makes you relate to the character even more; whether you have the disease or not.
Lurlene McDaniel is an amazing author who does her research to make the story even greater. Knowing the facts about what is actually happening and putting it down with a plot and characters, teaches you about the disease or problem while keeping you interested. The powerful way she writes makes you stay intrigued, and makes you want to keep turning the pages to see what happens.
You want to know whether they are going to go out with someone or if they are going to get sick again. You begin to become that person and can feel what they are feeling, and can hear the voices of the other characters talking to you. You understand what is going on in their minds and what is in their hearts. Their feelings become yours; you cry when they cry, you feel the touch they feel, and you hear the words they hear. When you cry with them, you cry on both the inside and the outside as well. Your heart and eyes fill with tears and you just can't help but cry from both parts of you. You are them.
Catie's Review on A Time to Die.......2006-01-12
1. A Time to Die/Lurlene McDaniel
2. Random House Children's Book, 1992, 154 pgs.
3. Young Adult
4. A Time to Die is a fiction story based on a young lady who has cystic fibrosis.
A Time to Die is a fiction story based on a young lady who has cystic fibrosis. Everyday she goes through therapy to help her breathe. She meets a boy named Vince, who also has cystic fibrosis. Vince helps Kara through the tough times, when Kara really needs someone by her side. They are both in and out of the hospital and are struggling to try to survive.
Lurlene McDaniel really showed in great detail the affects cystic fibrosis could have on a person's life. It is a wonderful book to read, especially if you do not know much about cystic fibrosis. Kara falls for a boy, which makes the book more interesting, because she does not want him to be turned off by the cystic fibrosis she has.
A Time to Die is a book you could not live without reading. This book left me with wanting to find more about cystic fibrosis and the book made me want to read more of Lurlene McDaniel's books.

It Brought a Tear to my Eye.......2002-06-11
A Time to Die has to be my favourite book in the OWL series. Kara and Vince's struggle to live is very inspiring and I admire them both for their courage and determination. Because I, along with my brother, am a victim of CF, I was glad to see someone trying to make the world more aware of this disease. I could really relate to Kara and Vince and found their thoughts and feeling about their disease to be similar to my own. This book is very well written with interesting characters and plot twists. This book brought a definite tear to my eye.
