Book Description
Legend has it that hidden in the remote reaches of the Himalayan mountains lies a secret that would have saved Ponce de Leon from years of fruitless searching. There, generations of Tibetan monks have passed down a series of exercises with mystical, age-reversing properties. Known as the Tibetan Rites of Rejuvenation or the Five Rites, these once-secret exercises are now available to Westerners in Ancient Secret of the Fountain Of Youth. Peter Kelder's book begins with an account of his own introduction to the rites by way of Colonel Bradford, a mysterious retired British army officer who learned of the rites while journeying high up in the Himalayas. Fountain of Youth then offers practical instructions for each of the five rites, which resemble yoga postures. Taking just minutes a day to perform, the benefits for practitioners have included increased energy, weight loss, better memory, new hair growth, pain relief, better digestion, and just feeling younger.

Truly life changing!.......2007-10-07
I purchased this book over 9 years ago and quickly began doing the rites faithfully. Over the years I have performed them off and on, faltering as my schedule became busy. Now I am back to performing them daily, because over the years I have identified them as the single most important factor that has contributed to maintaining my ideal body weight. During my last spell away from the rites, I gained 30 pounds and felt sluggish all the time. I came across my book and began performing the rites again consistently and I dropped 20 pounds within 6 weeks. After about 6 months of consistent performance, I have lost the entire 30 pounds that I gained and I look and feel great. I am often asked what I have done to lose the weight and I always share this book with anyone who asks. It doesn't happen overnight, but if you perform these rites faithfully, you will see results. The great thing is that even when you have worked up to 21 reps of each rite, they can still be easily performed in under 20 minutes. Added benefits of long term commitment are incredible flexibility, increased energy, and an overall state of wellness.
This book saved my life.......2007-10-05
After my Father passed away I was looking through his books. Amoung them I found The Ancient Secret. I was curious so I tried it. I just did three of each of the rites for a long time. That takes maybe about five minutes. Each time I would do them I would notice a sense of well being that was not present otherwise. I had had cancer for a while, so that sense of well being was very important. After increasing them to 21 I haven't been sick except for two times when I stopped doing them for a while. Both times the changes in my health were dramatic and life threatening. I love doing them so it is a real pleasure to save my life by practicing the five rites. They are not like other excercises that make you tired. These simple excercises give me energy from the moment that I begin to do them.
Wonderful read-practice.......2007-08-23
The practice of the rites was recommended to me by a very dear friend who offered to loan me their book... Glad I immediately ordered mine! The practice of the rites is something I am working up to, as I am VERY out of shape, but I am confident that I will be able to perform them, and I am already seeing benefit, after 1 month. I also recommend the second book, which I ordered at the same time.
The information contained in this book changed my life........2007-08-17
I am so grateful to have been told about this book. I tell everyone I know about it. The commitment is so minimal and the reward to so great.
Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth: Book 1.......2007-07-27
Anyone who has wondered about the secrets of youth should do well by reading this book and focusing on a new reality inside the human body: the power of our vital glands. In the East, these are called "chakras" and they are thought to be energy-producing and energy-absorbing centers. The story, the exercises, the advice, and the claims posted by many people on the strength of tangible results, should not be overlooked. Simplicity here, is the key to an awesome power which lies within ourselves.

I bought these for my niece and nephew. The activities are great but I wish the pictures were of real children. My niece and nephew do, too.
My Students LOVE These Cards!.......2007-07-26
I started mixing Yoga into my Student's Ballet Cirriculum. I use the Yoga Deck at the end of class to warm down. Now my students are asking all through class "Can we play the Yoga cards now?!" I let them take turns picking from each colored group of poses and exercises.
The Yoga Deck has been a wonderful teaching tool for me and my students. I am so glad I bought them. They are invaluable!
Fun Yoga for children and adults.......2007-07-22

Book Description
If you think that you have to escape to a cave in the Himalayas to find the enlightenment that yoga promises, think again. In Living Your Yoga, Judith Lasater stretches the meaning of yoga beyond its familiar poses and breathing techniques to include the events of daily life—all of them—as practice. Using the time-honored wisdom of the Yoga Sutra and the Bhagavad Gita to steer the course, the author serves up off-the-mat practices to guide you in deepening your relationships with yourself, your family and friends, and the world around you. Inspiring and practical, she blends her heartfelt knowledge of an ancient tradition with her life experiences as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, and yoga practitioner and teacher. The result is a new yoga that beckons you to find the spiritual in everyday life.

Judith is a gem........2007-10-11
Judith has so much to share about her knowledge of yoga. We are blessed as a yoga community that she shares so much with us.
Billions of stars in the Solar System?.......2007-08-14
Judith Lasater has written a fine book on yoga asanas for relaxation and pain relief, Relax and Renew: Restful Yoga for Stressful Times, also drawing on her professional training and experience as a physical therapist. In *Living Your Yoga*, she offers advice on daily living, mostly from her own experience. She begins each chapter with a quotation in the original Sanskrit, rendered in Roman letters, from the Yoga Sutra of Patañjali or the Bhagavad Gita.
I'm not going to criticize the practical advice Lasater gives, but there are things about this book that seriously rub me the wrong way; please hear me out.
The Sanskrit incantations must be very important to the author -- like the Latin Mass for traditional Catholics, or services in Hebrew for Orthodox Jews. She refers to the ancient Hindu scriptures in very much the same way that Christian authors of self-help books link their advice to quotes from the Bible. Very few readers of Lasater's book could understand the Sanskrit, and most readers who do probably can read Sanskrit script. Mercifully, Lasater provides English translations of the quotations.
Issues of daily life don't change much. The scriptures of any of the long-standing spiritual traditions hold much that is of relevance to modern life. But there is much that we can now understand better than the authors of ancient scriptures did. Despite this, fundamentalist Christian writers of today stubbornly insist on taking the Bible literally, and deny modern scientific discoveries. Somewhat differently, today's authors of yoga literature all too often attempt to buttress their beliefs and advice by calling on modern science without bothering to study it, or to consult with people who understand it. Lasater is like this. She cites only a short list of sources in her endnotes -- The Yoga-Sutra of Patañjali: A New Translation and Commentary and the Bhagavad Gita in translations by a yogic believer; Buddhist scriptures and commentaries; self-help books; Dag Hammarskjöld's Markings; a phone call with a colleague who is a registered nurse.
On pages 117 and 118 or *Living Your Yoga*, I read the following:
"Although we may, at times, feel disconnected, we can rest in the certainty that all beings, all things, are interconnected. A dramatic example of this is the night sky. Twinkling against a net of inky black are billions of stars. It takes each one to make our solar system."
Hello, hello, where are you, Carl Sagan, when we need you? Our solar system has only one star, the Sun, not billions. Lasater is describing not the solar system, but the universe, and poorly: the naked eye can only perceive a few thousand stars. And even in locations without light pollution, and on a moonless night, eyes dark-adapted to see the sky in all its glory also will find it to be only a dark gray. There's enough background light easily to discern the horizon and dimly to identify surrounding objects.
How is it possible to be credible about metaphysics in this day and age without understanding something about physics? How is it possible to discuss the place of humans in the universe without understanding what astronomy has told us about it? The ancient sages did the best they could, but they lacked the tools and methods we have today. Modern science can't answer the eternal questions, but it can cast light on answers that have been put forth.
The idea of being connected to the entire universe is related to a mystical concept of a transcendental consciousness or Eternal Spirit which somehow pervades everything, beyond time and space. But is this really going on in the entire universe or only in the head of the believer? There is no simultaneity -- we observe the distant past of almost all of the universe, due to the limitation of the speed of light, and these parts could only receive any message or influence from us in their distant future. Humans are connected, we can hope, in the striving for peace and understanding, and the universe is, to be sure, connected in that all of it is made of the same stuff, but --
Transcendental consciousness and connectedness may be a comforting belief, and like all faith-based beliefs, it is beyond questioning by its believers, who are likely to tell you that all I've just said is unimportant. I see things differently -- yet I do not consider myself spiritually deprived. I perceive life and consciousness, mysterious and wonderful as they are, to be ever more precious because they are contained within each person's own physical being and lifespan. I do look up at the night sky in wonder, thank you, and I understand its vastness to exceed immensely anything the yogic sages could imagine.
Great Devotional Tool.......2007-08-09
Lasater makes living the Yoga Sutras easy to comprehend in contemporary times. This is a great book for a serious student of yoga or someone just interested in overall spiritual development. I enjoy her suggestions for activities to enforce the concepts and integrate the philosphy into daily life.
Buy two, one for the car and one for the bedside table!.......2007-05-06
Written in plain language using events that happen in the course of her day, Judith Lasater, Ph.D, P.T., writes a lovely book for yoginis who want to deepen their practice beyond postures and engage yoga as a way of life. My yoga instructor teaches from it. I keep a copy in my car and a copy by my bedside, it is that relevant for me as a career woman, mother, wife, and friend. If traditional religious teachings aren't providing all the answers for you, you may want to buy this book. It won't necessarily take the place of your religious practice, but it will certainly give you tools to connect at a deeper level to whatever you are searching for.
Moved to action.......2007-03-26
Thought provoking, at times life altering. Better if read aloud in a group setting among similarly minded people. Very doable/actionable suggestions.

Disappointing.......2007-05-16
This book was rather disappointing even though it was first runner-up in the 2004 Visionary Awards. It was on the skimpy side for the money and as far as yoga goes, the poses were few and very common ones you could find anywhere else. The meditation page was interesting though, as well as the Bear Walk. The color illustrations were nice. I really kind of expected more from the book than what the title led me on to believe was actually in the book.
For older kids.......2005-04-22
I have bought a lot of yoga books lately, looking for the best resources to use with my preschool daughter. From the reviews and the title and description of the book, this one seemed like a good candidate. It arrived today and I opened it up; right on the cover page below "cool yoga, stretching and aerobic exercices for cool kids" it adds "ages 6 - 12." Well! I wish I had known that before I bought it.
Then I looked through the book and it lost another star. Overall, I this book is geared for preteen kids to read to teach themselves yoga and I think the author underestimates the ability of this age group to tell when they're being talked down to -- this is based on the illustrations and descriptions of each pose. The text is simplistic and the illustrations even more so. They are cartoonish drawings, not even real photos of children doing the poses. Like a Fish in Water by Isabelle Koch would be much better for this age group.
An excellent exercise resource for kids!.......2004-06-28
This is a book kids will love because it makes exercise so fun, so easy and so, well, cool! What kid today doesn't want to learn all the great yoga moves their moms and dads are doing? And with plenty of solid information about what moves work which body parts, great stretching exercises, aerobic activities and a superb workout journal for kids to record their accomplishments on, this is a wonderful tool for improving health. The book's colorful illustrations help kids learn the proper body positions and poses, and the step-by-step instructions are super easy to understand.
This book is perfect for kids from 5 to 15, and even adults who never did yoga before will appreciate the simple, yet detailed directions. Get your floor mats, get on your workout gear, and get in shape, kids. This book will not only make it easy, but fun and exciting at the same time. Who doesn't want to learn how to walk like a bear???

Book Description
Judith Hanson Lasater has been teaching an annual yoga retreat at Feathered Pipe Ranch, in Helena, Montana, for 28 years. When she learned that one of her students was collecting Lasater’s thoughts — which she called “Judith’s aphorisms” — Lasater decided to collect them in this book. Featuring one thought for each day of the year, along with a suggested practice, these brief, powerful insights reflect the author’s knowledge of classic yoga philosophy and years of experience. Humorous, inspiring, and surprisingly down-to-earth, they guide seekers both on and off the yoga mat. These aphorisms address love, asana, fear, trust, expectations, pranayama, suffering, laughter, presence, the Yoga Sutra, and much more. They emphasize the experience of being present to one's self and to life’s ups and downs — day by day, breath by breath, moment by moment. A Year of Living Your Yoga is a gentle invitation to readers to know themselves on a deeper level.

Needs some getting used to.......2007-07-31
This CD & deck set is very useful if you find yourself on the road, or simply want to try something different. The deck is very well made: the cards are sturdy, the photos are clear and in color, several details are pointed out, while easier versions of the poses are usually shown as well. The 1st CD contains a 75-min yoga class. This one is too long for me, and I'll admit I haven't even listened to it. The real reason I got this set was the 20-min yoga flow classes found in the 2nd CD. The recording is high quality; however, due to the lack of music, it can get boring - of course, you can always rip the CDs to digital audio files and overdub your own choice of music ;) The sequences themselves are fairly simple, but they do need some preparation. Before actually practicing, you'll have to listen to the sequence to get the feel of the rhythm Baron uses (this is definitely not slow and relaxing). You also need to study the deck in tandem with the audio sequences. Note that cards for a couple of the poses in the shorter sequences are missing - not entirely though, you can find them in the cards for the 75-min yoga class. Moreover, the shorter sequences simply have a "reminder" card with all the poses for the sun salute, which is used here as a warm-up - you'll find the entire sun salute sequence fully described at the beginning of the deck. You may be unable to do certain poses either because the sequence is too fast (ex. sun salute) or because they're too challenging (the most difficult one for me is three-legged tabletop due to knee problems). It's fairly easy to adapt the program to your needs, though, either by foregoing the audio after you get the hang of the flow rhythm or by simply adjusting the sequence or pose to suit you - the suggested modifications at the back of the cards come really handy. All in all, this set is worth your while, especially for being more versatile than a DVD. However, if you're a beginner, I would suggest looking for something "softer", such as Rodney Yee's Yoga: The Poetry of the Body and its accompanying Yoga: The Poetry of the Body: A 50-Card Practice Deck.
love Baptiste.......2007-02-09
OK. I haven't shut in for the 3 day bootcamp but I read the book "Journey Into Power" (which I ordered also and it is very good) and I use the c.d. 70 minute flow. I love this c.d. because it is just you and Baron in the room like you are having a private lesson and he is so calm and encouraging. There is a 20 minute meditation cd and I found it to be really helpfull. Also included are really nice flashcards and 2 short 20 minute cds. I love Baron Baptiste not only because of his philosophy and easy access to the spiritual side of yoga but because of his natural warmth. He has remained my favorite teacher. The bootcamp box is an excellent value. Buy it.
Get it for the class, not the packaging.......2007-01-17
Like the OM Yoga in a Box, this one suffers from a bit of over-marketing. If you get it, get it for the CDs and don't get too excited for the stuff in your new "kit." It does come with helpful flashcards.
I skipped the "bootcamp"described in the booklet and just use it for the vinyasa class on CD.
Be warned: it isn't really for beginners. You should be comfortable with the vinyasa flow of plank-chaturanga-up dog - down dog in order to do this class - he doesn't really "teach" that. He also doesn't give a whole lot of information on how to modify with props, so it works best for those who already know what they need.
It is a vigorous workout, probably harder than the OM Yoga Intermediate by Cyndi Lee.
Wonderful for a practice to take on the road!.......2006-03-22
I downloaded the Bootcamp cd's on my Ipod and I can now take my practice with me wherever I go. I was familiar with Baron Baptiste's book "Yourney Into Power" so I was able to follow the poses without any problems. I consider myself an intermediate yoga practitioner and found the bootcamp practices appropriate for my level. The short practices are great for days when time is limited or for doing after a run.
Not for beginners.......2006-03-16
While the concept of a yoga cleansing weekend is very interesting to me, I was overall unimpressed by the audio classes. They are not for beginners. They move very quickly and require a reasonable amount of prior knowledge with respect to the poses. Audio programs such as Shiva Rea's Yoga Sanctuary are much better. For those looking to get a sweat during their practice, this may suit. For those looking to more fully realize the benefits of the various poses, I would not recommend this product.
Book Description
For modern spiritual seekers and yoga students alike, here is an irreverent yet profound guide to the most sophisticated teachings of the yoga wisdom tradition–now brought to contemporary life by a celebrated author, psychotherapist, and leading American yoga instructor.
While many Westerners still think of yoga as an invigorating series of postures and breathing exercises, these physical practices are only part of a vast and ancient spiritual science. For more than three millennia, yoga sages systematically explored the essential questions of our human existence: What are the root causes of suffering, and how can we achieve freedom and happiness? What would it be like to function at the maximum potential of our minds, bodies, and spirits? What is an optimal human life?
Nowhere have their discoveries been more brilliantly distilled than in a short–but famously difficult–treatise called the Yogasutra. This revered text lays out the entire path of inner development in remarkable detail–ranging from practices that build character and mental power to the highest reaches of spiritual realization.
Now Stephen Cope unlocks the teachings of the Yogasutra by showing them at work in the lives of a group of friends and fellow yoga students who are confronting the full modern catastrophe of careers, relationships, and dysfunctional family dynamics. Interweaving their daily dilemmas with insights from modern psychology, neuroscience, religion, and philosophy, he shows the astonishing relevance and practicality of this timeless psychology of awakening.
Leavened with wit and passion,
The Wisdom of Yoga is a superb companion and guide for anyone seeking enhanced creativity, better relationships, and a more ethical and graceful way of living in the world.

A real mind opener.......2007-09-28
I had read this and the companion book on Yoga published in 1995 by Stephen Cope. The two books together opened my mind to its own working, the importance of Patanjali's Yoga Sutra even for today's seeker ( after the Maharishi wrote it 2,000 years back), and above all clarified some of the aspects of Raja Yoga through recent psychological research. Together, they would even convince a skeptic about the need to stop (Nirodha), and become a seeker ( Sramana) in his own way to get the benefit of yoga, as he interprets it.
Finally! An easy to read interpretation of the sutras. Not a copy of the sutras, but rather it's use in life........2007-09-21
If you've found the yoga sutras and yoga philosophy to be very esoteric and hard to understand, you're not alone. This book does what I've yet to see in any other format: the use of sutras and yogic philosophy in real day to day practice. The first few chapters cover briefly the history and ideas of yoga philosophy, but the rest of the book follows actual yogis on their quest for understanding. More like a mix between a novel and a serious interprative work on the sutras, this book is well written, easy to understand and inspiring.
accessible and well-written.......2007-02-07
I would love to someday take a class in person from Stephen Cope. I can only imagine how well he could impart information in person, given how well he can write. His discussion of complicated yogic philosophies is easy to read and absorb the first time through. This book is an excellent place to begin one's studies of the Yoga Sutras.
Excellent Tales of Yoginis.......2007-01-10
This book is about the transformations that can occur thru the practice of yoga. It is an easy read, but has true depth and soul that true practitioners can relate to. I enjoyed this book even more than Stephen Cope's previous book which is also a good read. I recommend this book to anyone who is dedicated and wishes to achieve a deeper understanding of how to use their body and mind to evolve spiritually.
Some answers to a few of life's persistant questions.......2007-01-08
In his book, "The Wisdom of Yoga," Stephen Cope has created a small masterpiece. He has not tried to answer questions about man's place in the universe or or the existence of an external world. He has, however, by means of telling vignettes from the lives of people he knows well and insightful comments about what must be one of the most gnomic series of insights into the practice of Yoga, given the average reader a sence of what it is to become involved in the practice of Yoga and some of its life-changing potential. In addition to this, he has included illustrations from other belief systems, specifically Buddhist thought and Christianity that provide a wider context for his practice. The Yoga practioner, as well as the average person who would like to learn a little about Yoga, could both benefit from the wonderful book.
Book Description
In 1974, the legendary “teacher of teachers” yogi Dharma Mittra photographed himself in 908 yoga postures. He printed each photo as an 8 x 10 and pasted them together to form a poster, creating the Ultimate Yoga Chart as a gift for his teacher, Swami Kailashananda (Yogi Gupta). Asanas collects 708 of those black-and-white photographs, each accompanied by the English name of the pose and the Sanskrit characters, brief commentary, and specific combinations for vinyasa, ashtanga, and Iyengar practice. Because it builds on basic postures, Asanas will appeal to students of any of the 100 yoga styles. In addition, specific sequences for each of the major styles of yoga; for beginning, intermediate, and advanced yoga students; as well as for particular health problems are also featured.

absolutely inspirational.......2007-09-14
I've flipped through the book so many times, carried it around so much that I've acutally worn it out. But that is totally ok because now I get to buy a new copy and do the same thing again. For the serious student of yoga Dharma's efforts and this book are a true gift. How do you get into some of the poses? Completely devote yourself to the practice for 30 years, then you can do them-it it not a how to maual, but an incredible historical record. Some of the negative reviews are ridiculous, please give the book to someone who can appreciate it.
Asanas.......2007-05-13
I bought this small book when I volunteered at kripalu.
It is very simple. Pictures of 608 asanas of the 900 poses that exist. My method in using it is to hold it in my hand while doing my flow. It works well for me.
Totally Useless Bordering on Obscene.......2007-01-10
The book starts out with how wonderful this Dharma Mittra is (by the editors). Then Dharma Mittra tells you how wonderful he is and barely scratches the surface of a Yoga practice that is compatible with a busy life. The rest of the book is pictures of Dharma Mittra in yoga poses. His gentialia are so prominent in most of the poses it is obscene. I am not a prude after 25 years of nursing but please! When I tried to use the book as examples of what poses should look like all I got was laughter. Even from my supervisor!
There are no explanations of how to get into or out of the poses safely. No suggestions to adapt the poses and no pointing out the nuances of a pose, breathing suggestions, or even a notation of what conditions the poses may help with.
This book doesn't deserve a star at all but rather a parental warning label.
excellent.......2006-07-23
I was suprised to find that there are postures not included in this book. The photographs are clear enough. There is no instruction. I suppose as an adjunct to some other material it is of great value. The one concern I have is about the durablility of the book itself. Since it is rather thick with a lot of pages, it might be worthwhile to purchase the hardcover edition instead.
Beautiful.......2004-10-12
Asanas collects 608 of black-and-white photographs, each accompanied by the English name of the pose and the Sanskrit characters, brief commentary, and specific combinations for Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and Iyengar practice. There are suggestions for beginning, intermediate, and advanced yoga practitioners, as well as a list of poses beneficial for particular health problems and chakra relationships. Because it builds on basic postures, Asanas will appeal to students of any of the 100 yoga styles. This would make a wonderful gift for anyone who is interested in yoga.

Baptiste's program, based on his weeklong "Journey into Power" boot camps, integrates the physical and spiritual components of yoga. His daily "Power Vinyasa Yoga Practice," done in a heated room, is a challenging series of 54 yoga poses, one flowing into another. The poses are well illustrated and clearly described, including modifications. Baptiste encourages you to reach your edge ("where we come right up against ourselves and what we can do and be") by holding a pose for a breath longer than you think you can or stretching a quarter-inch farther.
Eight spiritual/psychological principles, described cogently and often lyrically, guide the transformation process. Principle 5, "In Order to Heal You Need to Feel," has this introduction: "The real irony of spiritual growth is that instead of being some miraculous experience, it feels a lot more like going to pieces."
The rest of the program includes a cleansing diet, daily meditation, and a strong, spiritual focus in daily living. Journey into Power is highly recommended for people ready for a major physical, emotional, and spiritual change. --Joan Price

Customer Reviews:
best baron book.......2007-05-30
I have to say, I have taken a few of the Baptiste workshops, taken some of his classes and own many of his videos, but none of it really impresses me like his book does. In this book, the whole personality is set aside so that I can truely interpret what he is trying to say, and I like it. The book makes so many great points, such as comparing your body to your car and caring for it the way you would your car. I have purchased four copies of this book and given them away as gifts, I read some of the passages in the yoga classes I teach and have incorporated many of the techniques mentioned in the book into my everyday life and I have to say I feel much more powerful and clean mentally, phyically, spiritually. Every time I read it I find some new idea or concept that I adapt to my lifestyle and pass on to others. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who is ready to grow and get to know themselves.
Baptiste is magical.......2007-05-13
Baron Baptiste's yoga and philosophy are truly outstanding and worth reading, cover to cover. His yoga has changed my life.
Take the Journey.......2007-03-03
I love Baron and I loved this book. I started an at home yoga practice with his dvd's and this book and it got me hooked on yoga to where I was at a 5 day a week practice or more. He is so easy to connect with because he is so very personable and genuine. The yogic principles are so straightforward and the whole book is an easy access to a newcomer to yoga.
never received.......2007-01-19
I would love to review this book but I never received it. After filling out the return form and sending back "The March of the Penguins" (that I did not order)twice,I gave up. I have not been able to "Journey into Power" or get any response. I know it was Xmas, and you were busy, but this is a poor performance. Do I have to go to Barnes ans Nobles to get it.???
Awesome.......2006-07-12
