    1 out of 5 stars Not that much Information.......2006-03-09

    I was looking for a book how to deal with teachers that are uneducated about ADD, my son has it and they just want to classify him as mentally retarted. I need more info.
    This book is more for the child than a parent

    5 out of 5 stars Teachers! Take note!.......2003-12-14

    For its format alone, this is a must-buy for teachers and the administrators who work with them! As a middle school AP, I've visited far too many classrooms where teachers try to keep students' attention nailed to dreary handwritten overheads in black marker no less. Yawn. Every page of this book demonstrates what good overheads should look like (minus the color I'd like to see)while the text explains WHY this is imperative for ADHD students. GET IT! I love it. I ordered two more for my school.

    3 out of 5 stars I liked how the number was in the title.......2001-07-21

    When I saw this book, I liked that there was a number in the title and the @ thing too. But when I was reading it, most of the words weren't numbers. Some of the pages were pictures and I liked those ones the best. I think that if you wanted this book, you should get it. As someone who had a hard time in high school, making friends etc., I found this was a good way to think back on it all. I'm not sad anymore because of them.

    5 out of 5 stars very helpful for me as a high schooler with ADD.......1999-05-04

    I recently read Help for ADD at High School by Kathleen Nadeau. There were many pieces of advice that were new to me and other things that my parents and tutors had taught me before. The advice that I had heard before, I have used during my years in high school. These simple tips are how I survived and passed every single one of my classes. I could tell that when Dr. Nadeau wrote this book, she understood the people who would be reading it. Usually when I read information books, I get bored and distracted easily. This probably has alot to do with my ADD. Dr. Nadeau remembered that the reader of this book, like myself, probably has ADD. In writing the book, she made a special effort to make sure I didn't loose interest. The content of the book helps students to understand their obstacles and teaches them how to overcome them. I would recomend this book to any high schooler who has ADD, it will truly help you through your difficulties.

    5 out of 5 stars Very informative and insightful for teens with ADD.......1999-05-03

    This book was very helpful to both me and my teen. The information is presented in a very clear, teen-friendly and organized manner that's easy to read. It made me aware of what issues I should be discussing with my teen with ADD and gave me suggestions I can make that are helpful. This book also gave my teen insight into typical struggles and solutions that he's dealing with as a result of living with ADD. From basic information about how to know if you have ADD to social and school issues, this book covers all areas of concern in a user-friendly, straightforward and practical manner.

    5 out of 5 stars A great reference for school and home.......2007-02-26

    The Manual of School Health, by Keeta DeStefano Lewis and Bonnie J. Bear, contains a wealth of vital information organized in a way that makes it easily accessible. As a reference book, the Manual reflects the rich background of the authors as both scholars and practitioners.

    The topics/chapters, both comprehensive and wide-ranging, include

    * Growth and Development characteristics
    * Vision and Hearing
    * Acute Conditions
    * Chronic Conditions
    * Affective and Behavioral Disorders
    * Substance Abuse
    * Violence
    * Adolescent and Gender-Specific Issues
    * Special Education
    * Twenty-First Century Health Challenges
    * Emergency Disaster Preparedness and First Aid

    Each childhood condition and disorder is consistently and clearly listed with a definition, its etiology, characteristics, effects on individuals, health concerns/emergencies associated, management/treatment, additional information, and websites where one can acquire additional information. The authors have included information that the reader would have difficulty finding anywhere else.

    The appendices are rich with information: charts, tables, and graphs that one can access with ease. The illustrations are clear and useful.

    The authors have gone to great lengths to have the book reviewed by scholars, practitioners, and specialists in medicine and education to ensure that the information is accurate, current, and thoroughly practical.

    The Manual of School Health should be an essential and indispensable part of every school health office. As a former school principal and current educational consultant and trainer, I highly recommend this book. As a husband and father of three children, I keep one in my home.

    5 out of 5 stars Manuel of School Health.......2005-02-17

    Dear Publisher,
    I am writing in support of the book "Manuel of School Health by Keeta Lewis and Bonnie Bear. I am a School Nurse in Washington Unified School and I use the book frequently in my practice of School Nursing. I cover 4 schools including 3 elementaries and a middle school where I have approximately 2300 students. I often look up medical information in this book as well as make copies of the different pages for pages for parents and guardians. It is really the only book I have ever found that specifically covers our field of practice and the kind of illnesses we deal with on a daily basis. When I can copy a page and go over it with a family member, it very concisely outlines the treatment and care of the condition. Also, I especially appreciate the exclusion information the book details so that I know best practice guidelines and when to allow the student to return to achool. When it is in a book, in writing, it has validity and credibility and stips any arguement or debate about the guidelines. This book also helps me with information for teachers. They often ask me medical questions and I pull out my handy School Nurse manuel and can give them the answers they want in timely manner.
    Thank-you fo publishing this very handy guide that I can use on a daily basis as a School Nurse in Northern California. Lanette Reeves, R.N.

    4 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for school nurses.......2000-05-14

    This book is an excellent reference book for school nurses. It is user friendly and has basic information for nurses working in schools. The only comment is that was last revised in 1986. The information presented is basic information which one needs to know if working in schools. I do feel it is time for an update to include current topics that we see in schools--increased use of medications for behavior modification, eating disorder issues, etc. I am purchasing this book for my office.

      A step-by-step guidebook for advance preparation and early response to school crises

      This Second Edition of Preparing for Crises in the Schools arrives at a critical moment. Authored by three school crisis response planning experts, it offers advice on early detection of trouble, developing plans and procedures to intervene with youths quickly and successfully, and conducting a school in-service workshop on crisis response planning and intervention.

      Essential for counselors, school psychologists, teachers, and administrators alike, this book helps ensure that schools are not caught by surprise when a crisis occurs.

        2 out of 5 stars Don't look like an idiot........2007-03-28

        As an experienced clinician I was appalled to see a Death Note written by a medical student using the guide in this book. He titled it "Celestial Dischage"-- just as it is noted in the book. It was his first time, and he thought that was acceptable to put in a patient's chart.

        If you expect to use a reference when you are either inexperienced, 3/4 brain dead after call, or both, don't risk your professional reputation on "cute."

        4 out of 5 stars practical pocket book for interns.......2006-01-17

        This book is all about overnight call situations that interns face. I'm an intern this year and I keep it in my pocket along with 2 other books: Sanford Guide and Pocket Medicine by Sabatine. There are plenty of books out there if you want to learn about disease processes and the physiology behind it all, but this is the only one I've found that has *practical* information. For example, tables of common prn meds, and how to approach cross cover issues. Great death note sample also.

        4 out of 5 stars Helpful but overpriced.......2005-08-03

        I thought that the book is very helpful on the wards and for my ER rotation. The book is concise and a quick read so it is best to read the book before the rotation starts. I read it so quickly that I wonder why the price is so steep.

        5 out of 5 stars Great book!.......2005-07-27

        This book is very helpful for starting intern year and gives you really good advice for things to do on call. It also has good examples for admit notes, discharge summaries, common calls and common drugs. Great book!

        5 out of 5 stars THE book.......2005-03-08

        Yeah I just wanned to say that this book is dope. I mean for real, I had hella questions about all this medical stuff and this book was straight up dealing! Damn, so I'm an intern and when I be up at like 4:30 in the AM I be tired as HELL!! This book easy to use and helps me out when I'm all foggy minded. Damn, homie, 80 hours like what? But anyway, this thing has got my IV fluids and them dang arterial blood gases locked down from the top down!

            Book Description

            The Consulting Therapist will prove a valuable reference to therapists working in educational settings. Occupational and physical therapists will appreciate the comprehensive review by authors Barbara E. Hanft, M.A., OTR/ L, FAOTA and Patricia A. Place, Ph.D. of the literature on school-based therapy. Current practice in pediatric therapy in any setting requires that the clinician consider how to collaborate with professional colleagues and family members to expand the impact of direct therapeutic intervention. Ms. Hanft and Dr. Place have made it easy to learn about consultation specific to OTs and PTs in educational settings, filling a major void in the literature. The authors' years of experience are evidenced by their insight into what is necessary to become a successful member of the educational team. They understand that the clinician must appreciate the philosophy, roles, and responsibilities of the classroom teacher and the unique needs of the child with a disability in the school setting. They carefully guide the reader through the requirements necessary to provide educationally relevant consultative services. The effective strategies and case studies in this 154-page manual will assist therapists with implementing a consultative model in the school setting. Clinicians will have step-by-step information to help them:

            *

            apply their therapeutic knowledge and skills to improve children's school performance

            *

            identify the six essential decisions for using an effective consultation model

            *

            analyze the interpersonal skills needed for each of four stages of the consultation process

            *

            collaborate with colleagues and families

            *

            resolve conflicts among team members Helpful and time saving reproducible forms are provided for observing student performance, developing a school consultation plan, observing the environment, and assessing one's consulting skills.
